SFD rewatch, episodes 1-5
One of the best first episodes of a series. Quickly and indelibly establishes the characterization of all the major players.
Love the kid actors, but mainly Lee Re as Boon-yi.
Piglet scene still as unacceptable as the first time. Come on.
Absolutely in love with the theatrical scene constructions, including how we meet Jeong do jeon (stealing a potato); the farce at Yi In geom's residence, Ddang-sae telling the story of "Viper", and the first time we see the Do Dang. I do love Jeong do-jeon inciting a riot (and Kim Myung-min's sexy sexy voice) but also? I think on the first watch and now, it felt a bit off. Mostly because the song becomes a swelling soundtrack over the scene- I wish they had just let it be Jeong do jeon's voice going hoarse and a few people singing it.
Got impatient with the segue into Gongmin's assassination, and at some points the name drops become tiresome. I know SFD was written for an audience familiar with these characters, and so this is on me, but having to pause every few minutes to look up wiki or bodashri's tumblr (seriously MVP of the SFD fandom) is not a great viewing experience for me.
Gil Tae mi -11/10 no notes, especially in that mango-yellow robe. Park Hyuk-kwon completely pussy out in this drama, playing twins who are polar opposites in everything except that they fight like ballet dancers.
Had to ffwd Yeon-hee's rape scene and aftermath. Yes, we get it, losing his mother and his lover are foundational to everything about Ddang-sae, but hoo boy, how about they'd...just not?
I just really, really enjoy Hong In-bang's villainy- his turn to it makes 50 times more sense to me that whatever is going on with that little psycho with his murder grove. [When he went on about justice preventing evil, my eyes rolled back in my head so hard. OKAY, you pathetic little meow-meow, if that works for you, I GUESS.]
Love that the writers re-used a line from TwDR- paraphrased, it's that "the people endure, while monarchies rise and fall". In TwDR, when Sejong says it to Jeong gi-joon, it's to refute his rather nihilistic view of the chaotic future where people are able to choose their own leaders; here Hong In bang uses it to justify raising taxes on an already overtaxed population. Writers nim, your minds.
Boon yi is THE BEST
Moo-hyul is a baby. Imagine watching the extremely boring Jo Jin-woong playing this character in 2011 and then waking up to Yoon Kyung-sang's adorable himbeaux portrayal in this.
Byun Yo-han is such a genuinely lovely actor; I just wish that Ddang-sae's whole trajectory wasn't unmitigated misery. It's harder on the rewatch because at least the first time I had hope. I think writer nims are fond of reminding us that being born poor , and consequently often powerless to resist constant degradation, is a lifelong curse that only a few escape- you see it in Kang Chae Yoon's fate as well- but I think Kang Chae yoon's fate felt like less of a punishment by capricious gods than Ddang-sae's.
Ok, but Byun Yo-han and that marketplace performance. LOVELY.
Ddang-sae's leaving Baek Yoon's dead body in the street like a prom invite for Sambong. (and then he went and left and actual note that says "whom do i kill next?") made me laugh. C'mon Sambong, take some time out from fulfilling your divine purpose to give this boy the railing he deserves. I feel like so many of both their problems would have been solved by this.

The Rev. Moon, the Unification Church, and the KCIA
The following is excerpted from "The Death Squads: Bringing in the Kingdom of God Through Terror, Torture and Death" (1996) by S.R. Shearer
Tumblr media
In addition to the Americans, the Argentineans, the conservative Catholic Church, and various right-wing politicos, business leaders, and the military - with their attendant intelligence apparatus - there was a final component to the deadly mix which constituted the environment in which the Death Squads worked: specifically, the World Anti-Communist League (WACL) of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon. WACL became involved in these operations as a result of its Korean connections - connections which also led back to Phoenix..
WACL is a Moonie front organization with strong ties to the KCIA (a creation of the American CIA); its ultimate allegiance is to the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and the Unification Church.
Moon, of course, is no friend of democracy. He is a theocratic authoritarian who considers himself to be the Son of God and the new Messiah.[22] Moon believes that Jesus failed in His earthly mission to save man through His death on the cross; in addition, Moon claims that Jesus had sex with the women who followed Him.
As early as 1978 newspapers like the Washington Post began to pick up on the connections between Moon (WACL) and the Latin American Death Squads. For instance, one such article which appeared in the Post describing these connections carried the headline: "The Fascist Specter behind the World Anti-Red League."[23] In 1984 these connections were further explored in a series of columns by Jack Anderson.[24] Other publications carried additional articles detailing these connections and the Nazi components which comprised these elements.[25]
ORIGINS OF THE UNIFICATION CHURCH
In the light of all this, it might be fair to ask, what was it in the history of Moon and the Unification Church which would have led to such links between what ostensibly is supposed to be a religious organization and Nazi-oriented, right-wing Death Squads? The tides which produced these strange relationships originated in the very early 1950s in the murky right-wing political, religious and military currents which swept through Korea as a result of the Korean War; specifically in the wrath of Korean President Syngman Rhee and other right-wing elements in the Korean military who were furious at Truman and Eisenhower for not prosecuting the Korean War through to a successful conclusion - by which they meant the re-unification of the Korean Peninsula under President Rhee.
Right-wing elements in the United States were also enraged; many saw in the U.S. "surrender" the outlines of a sinister conspiracy. Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin went so far as to blame the U.S. "surrender in Korea" on the machinations of a White House clique besotted by "bourbon and benzedrine;" in a rage, he actually called the President a "son-of-a-bitch" from the floor of the Senate. Senator William Jenner of Indiana, echoed McCarthy's rage; he too saw the silhouette of an ominous conspiracy; he went on to declare that "... this country today is in the hands of a secret inner coterie which is directed by agents of the Soviet Union." Both groups - right-wing Americans on the one hand, and right-wing Koreans on the other - felt they had been stymied in Korea by a vast, underground intrigue which had seized control of the United States and which was aiming at the destruction of the Free World; they perceived themselves as engaged in an immense struggle against an implacable foe which not only controlled Communist China and the Soviet Union, but powerful, secret elements in the West as well (i.e., the "Illuminist Conspiracy"). This view of things was only strengthened when Rhee was toppled in April of 1960 with Eisenhower's help.
It was this witches' brew of virulent right-wing politics which gave birth to the aberrant theology and politics of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and the Unification Church; Moon became as much a believer in the existence of the "world-wide communist (Illuminist) conspiracy" as had been Korean strongman Syngman Rhee and Senators Joseph McCarthy and William Jenner. Moon believed that the conspiracy could only be stopped by uniting the Western World under the banner of "Christianity" (by which he meant his own weird blend of New Age philosophy and aberrant religious teachings). Thus, Moon's movement was (is) as much a political movement as it is a religious movement; it is the result of a strange convergence of extreme right-wing politics (which stem not only out of sources in Korea, but also elements in the United States) and a bizarre mixture of fanatical, authoritarian religious beliefs.
There are, of course, many such movements throughout the world; but what has given Moon's organization such power is the relationship it enjoys with the government of South Korea - a relationship which endows Moon's religious empire with unlimited funds, business fronts, and access to sensitive intelligence matters - things which no other religious association in the world enjoys - outside of the Vatican; and it is precisely these things which have bought Moon entrance - if only through the back door - into America's Religious Right; the Religious Right in this country has seemingly found itself unable to resist the allure of Moon's money, the high-paying jobs he is able to offer through his various business fronts, and the excitement generated out of his intelligence (KCIA) contacts.
THE DEATH SQUADS AND THE REV. MOON
All this brings us back to Moon's involvement with Latin America's Death Squads; Moon's involvement originated as a result of his contacts with the KCIA, and the KCIA's involvement flowed out of Korea's connections with the Vietnam War. Korea was one of the very few U.S. allies which actively participated militarily in Vietnam alongside American forces. ROK (Republic of Korea) forces thus came into direct contact with Phoenix.
The KCIA was thrilled with Phoenix - and this favorable impression was passed on to WACL where the KCIA, as already indicated, exercised a great deal of influence; as a result, WACL soon became a purveyor of Phoenix-like operations throughout the world as an effective means of combating the spread of communism - so much so that in Latin America many of the Death Squad networks which were later established became synonymous with Moon and the Unification Church. Indeed, investigative reporter Russ Bellant writes that "... the ... Death Squad network{26} (in many of the various Latin American countries) is (in instance after instance) also the Latin American branch of Moon's World Anti-Communist League (WACL)."[27] For example, in Argentina, the Death Squads and WACL were so closely identified that in Buenos Aires the various Death Squad cadres constituted in fact the main Argentine branch of WACL.[28] These kinds of connections between the Death Squads and the Unification Church were repeated throughout Central and South America. So closely and effectively did Moon and the Death Squads cooperate in Latin America that they were actually responsible - along with Nazi fugitive Klaus Barbie - in helping to establish a Nazi-style state in Bolivia in 1982.[29] And what about the individuals who constitute the membership of these organizations? - they have been variously described as a mix of Hitler collaborators, anti-Semites, right-wing politicos, rich businessmen, etc. - all of whom hold to an unshakable belief in a world-wide conspiracy directed against capitalism and Christianity[30] - the same kind of ideological mix which - to a large degree - can be found in the CNP (the principle coordinating agency bringing together members of the Religious Right with members of the political right and the business right) today.

KIM YUJUN was born in ulsan, south korea, on spetember 17th, 1988, to two korean parents. his childhood would remain uneventful even as his family packed all of their things and moved halfway across the world to chicago, illinois, when he was two. a few years later, YUJUN started kindergarten. his teacher expressed concerns about him possibly being colorblind since he always misidentified colors and wasn't able to properly do classwork that had to do with them. while it was only thought that YUJUN only had red-green colorblindness or blue-yellow colorblindness, he was formally diagnosed with monochromatism, which meant he couldn't see any colors besides black, gray, or white.
when YUJUN was seventeen, his family moved back to south korea after his father received a better job offer. he would finally be able to see his extended family anytime he wanted, and he, his aunt, and his grandmother would meet up and go to a noraebang after he was done with school for the day and sing. this is where he picked up singing as a hobby, and his family only added fuel to the fire by complementing him and telling him to join a company. he was a big fan of REVERIE ENTERTAINMENT'S soloist, MARIAN, and decided to audition for them. his family all packed their things and drove him from ulsan to yeouido. after he was accepted, his family threw him a massive celebration for making them proud by chasing his dreams.
YUJUN would debut in the duo group BROTHERS TWO in 2008, which would disband a year later after his bandmate SUK was caught posting revealing photos of reverie entertainment's female trainees online. disgusted, YUJUN nearly left the company since the entire situation gave him a bad taste in his mouth. YUJUN sought advice from MARIAN, REVERIE'S only debuted idol at the time on what he should do. her advice was to persevere because he has talent that should not be hidden from the world, and the end result is well worth the wait. waiting was the best thing he could have done since, after almost two years, he was to debut as the leader of REVERIE'S upcoming and anticipated boy group, HOTLINE. after his debut, YUJUN would use his platform to advocate for colorblindness in order to make those like him feel less alone.

My Rating: 8/10
My Review:
Before I start: let me just say that this is more of an idol drama so that's to be noted before you watch this. I have found that idol dramas tend to not be quite as good, but some really do pull through like with this one.
This is a great drama in my opinion. It does lean a bit heavy on historical drama cliches but it's got a couple of twists. I wouldn't say it's anything new or refreshing to the drama world. However, that being said, the story is still great and holds its own. The characters are decently fleshed out for a short drama, even including side characters. They could have added more episodes and fleshed them out even more but it's satisfying enough.
The acting is absolutely amazing. You got some really awesome, big-name actors in this drama. Even the ones that aren't, and even the idols in it hold their own.
The costumes are decent and the OST is pretty dang good as well. Although, I have a bit of a bias since Yoseob sings one of the songs haha. I definitely recommend this drama, especially if you are looking for something serious but not too serious. It's a drama but it has a lot of nice funny moments thrown in as well. It never feels too heavy to watch.
My Favorite Characters: Moo Myung, Ah Ro, Han Sung, Ban Ryu, Soo Yeon
My Ships: Moo Myung and Ah Ro, Ban Ryu and Soo Yeon

THE BRİDE OF HABAEK // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb: 6,9 Benim Puanım: 6
Drama: The Bride of Habaek (English title) / Bride of the Water God 2017 (literal title)
Hangul: 하백의 신부 2017
Director: Kim Byung-Soo
Writer: Yoon Mi-Kyung (original comic), Jung Yoon-Jung
Date: 2017
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast : Nam Joo-Hyuk, Shin Se-Kyung, Lim Ju-Hwan, Krystal, Gong Myung
Dizinin isminde doğaüstü bir varlığın gelini deyince herkesin aklına ilk gelen Goblin dizisi olmuş. Yapmayın, gelmesin öyle şeyler. Nam Joo-Hyuk dizilerinden şeytan görmüş gibi kaçmaktan vaz geçtim. Arka arkaya iki dizisini aldım izleme listeme.
Yoon So-A(Shin Se-Kyung) ise bildiğimiz insan rolündeydi.

Watched all the episodes of "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" (2016).  The name of this program kept showing up on all the top 10 lists of #Kdrama series, so I became very curious about it.  I really enjoyed it.
A great photo of the 3 main actors: ~ Park Hyung-sik AS Sammaekjong / Kim Ji-dwi / Jinheung of Silla; ~ Go A-ra AS Kim Ah-ro; and ~ Park Seo-joon AS Moo-myung / Kim Sun-woo / Kim Isabu / Dog-bird.
I will probably write a more detailed review of this #Koreandrama TV series later.   The setting is the Silla Kingdom.  "Silla or Shilla was a Korean kingdom located on the southern and central parts of the Korean Peninsula. Silla, along with Baekje and Goguryeo, formed the Three Kingdoms of Korea." (Wikipedia) What's the plot?  Hmmm?  A bunch of pretty boys are recruited to serve the king.  They may have entered the school as spoiled pampered privileged children of nobleman but when they graduated they were free-thinking brave warriors of the kingdom, who served the king but more importantly, protected the people.
