MOTORCITY SEASON 2 MASTERPOST
once upon a time, over 10 years ago, just a few months after the announcement that Motorcity was officially canceled...the creators of the show took pity on their heartbroken fandom and gave us several glimpses of what season 2 might have been like. they saw how much we loved Motorcity and gave us every scrap of info they could at the time, so that we could use those scraps to imagine our own personal "Season 2" - whether it continue on in our fics, our fanart, or simply our own heads.
I'm making this masterpost so that none of this material will be lost or forgotten, and so any fanartists/fic writers still hanging around today can use it for inspiration. if there's any related material I've missed, PLEASE feel free to add it in a reblog or let me know in my inbox! I want this list to be as complete as we can make it! :)

Season 2 Writer's Wall posted (and later deleted) by @chrisprynoski on twitter, and shared on tumblr by @peopleofmotorcity, these pictures of the writer's wall showed us a "rough sketch" of what could have been, and gave our imaginations SO many fun theories and possibilities to play with. every blurry sticky note was a treasure to us. :')

Chris Prynoski's Fan Interview + Tumblr Q&A's this whole interview on youtube is a delight to listen to, and Part 2 in particular has some interesting bits about season 2. (skip to 17:10 for some good stuff about Texas and Chuck's backgrounds!)

Chris P also answered several juicy season 2 questions on tumblr. sadly his blog is deactivated now, but you can still read through all of them at the links below!

Capri Chilton - Mike Chilton's long lost big sister! I can't remember where or when it was first revealed that they were considering giving Mike a secret older sister, and I haven't been able to track down the origin. that being said, when it was revealed, the fandom loved the idea so much that they begged the creators to make it canon. Chris P busted out the "magical canon stick", gave us this delightful concept sketch, and "Capri Chilton" was born!

The Motorcity Series Bible "To help you all understand what it is you are reading, this is the material that Titmouse used to help pitch Motorcity, and it was also a tool for writers to use when coming up with episodes to help understand who the characters were before there was any other reference. That being said, this was one of the very first documents about Motorcity, so many things have changed or evolved from these early concepts." (x)

Motorcity Series Bible - Redacted Version (Pages 1, 2, 17, 19, 20) funfact: @peopleofmotorcity was the official? unofficial? tumblr blog for Motorcity, and it was run by a guy named Mac - an animator for the show who loved to tease and joke around with the fandom. before revealing the actual first 13 pages of the series bible, he posted this censored version as a prank - a mix of truth and trolling! it's up to the fandom to decide which is which. ;)

MTV Era Motorcity Masterpost a fantastic collection of glimpses into the original pilot/pitch trailer that would evolve into the show we know and love today, found and compiled by @waksworldrebooted. "In 2000, Chris Prynoski pitched a cartoon called Motorcity. He made a card and a website promoting the show, which wouldn't see the light of day until the Walt Disney Company got their hands on it."

Motorcity Unaired Pilot - Disney Version Originally aired during Comic Con 2012, the pilot was recorded and then posted on YouTube by Allison Simmons in July of 2012, later being privatized in 2022. The video was re uploaded onto VKVideo 22 days after its original posting to YouTube and is still currently available to watch online. (x)

best female villain tournament!
SEASON 2
RULES:
- Only submit the same character once
- Multiple submissions with different characters are fine!
- Matchups will be posted as soon as I have enough submissions and will include the most submitted characters
-Resubmissions are fine as long as they weren’t on the tourney last time
- Please be as detailed as possible
I had issues on my end with some technicalities and media’s. eg a lot of characters from the hatchetfield musicals by team starkid were just submitted as hatchetfield which made it harder to search for them to identify them and get pictures etc. If those and similar fandoms could be submitted with what musical etc they’re from that would be great :)
Those who sent submissions through my askbox will be getting submitted by me unless it was off anon(because you’ll be getting a notification)

HOLLY FALKHAMA (The Lost Burner of Motorcity, Rewritten)
Tumblr media
Holly was born into the Falkhama family, a family that specialized in manufacturing tires since the days of old Detroit. However, when Abraham Kane discovered her family's roots, her parents were imprisoned.
With nowhere to go, she escaped the premises of Detroit Deluxe, eventually finding herself in the lawless street-racing-infested city of Los Angeles.
Holly grew up in L.A. under a street gang called The Restless Rustlers. As a teenager, she made a name for herself as a champion racer under the street tuner SkyTracer for a year. A car that had built-in flight capabilities to navigate throughout the desolate wasteland of The United States for certain racing events.
After one year, Holly decided to return to Deluxe. However, she knew she wasn't welcome. Through one charging dock, she found herself for the first time in the underground metropolis of Motorcity.
Holly's first encounter was with a certain Texas Yang, whom he started crushing over her over he expertise in drifting and in good looks. She appreciated Texas' skills too, in spite of his stupidity, After a race downtown, Mike Chilton and his team, The Burners, saw value in her racing skills, and made her an honorary member of the gang.
Holly gained a grudge towards Julie Kane at first, for the latter came from Deluxe and was somehow involved with Abraham Kane. Holly wonders if there's more to her than meets the eye, yet realizes that Julie has the same history she has: Someone from Deluxe who wants freedom
Tumblr media
For the uninitiated, Holly was a scrapped Burner from Motorcity
She was  planned to be the second female member of The Burners. Holly's character suspected that Julie kept a serious secret from the group and intended to find out. She also saw Julie as a competitor for Mike's affection, with the two being antagonistic towards each other.
I had to heavily rewrite Holly's backstory because I wasn't too fond of the love triangle aspect that was tied to her. So I made her Texas' love interest (credit to @motorcity-thoughts for coming up with how they met) and made her Julie's rival in that she has a grudge against Deluxians working for Kane as they took away her family.
I wrote Holly's story as if she were the token "sixth-ranger" newbie of Season 2. With an introductory episode with a possible flashback.

2023 Media consumption
God tier: media that invoked blorbo-induced euphoria, mini-obsession, or just haunt me
White Cat Legend (大理寺日志, Dali Court Journal) - donghua, seasons 1 and 2. The new vice minister of the imperial court of criminal justice is, unfortunately, a cat demon. Tang Dynasty workplace comedy/political intrigue. Lovely animation, sick fight scenes, and catboys.
Scissor Seven (刺客伍六七) - donghua, seasons 2-3. Netflix summary: "Seeking to recover his memory, a scissor-wielding, hairdressing, bungling quasi-assassin stumbles into a struggle for power among feuding factions." Season 1 was just ok at best, season 2 was great, season 3 was phenomenal, season 4 was meh.
Derkholm duology by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
God Troubles Me / Hanhua Riji (汉化日记) - donghua. Cringefail loser girl Su Moting, her cringefail smartphone god, and her cringefail cat (demon) have to save the world. But first she has to go to work. And get takeout. And watch dramas. The premise sounds SO cringe but it's well-executed and hilarious. And actually a pretty sharp but good-humored window into the delights and horrors of modern everyday life in china.
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt (reread). At the peak of the California gold rush, hitmen Charlie and Eli Sisters are hired for a job that Eli is liking less and less. 1st-person perspective of a stone-cold killer, where it turns out the killer is just Some Guy. Who is kind of awkward. And pathetic. And maybe not very bright.
Gobelins graduation animated shorts: "Chroniques de l'Eau Salée" (2021), "Last Summer" (2022), and "Go Fishboy" (2022). Available to watch on YouTube. Got caught up on 2021 and 2022 and these are the ones that will haunt me.
Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi - manga (reread). Teenage martial artist is cursed to transform into a hot girl whenever he's splashed with cold water. Still some of the funniest and most deranged comedy I've ever read.
"Golden Age" - short story by Naomi Novik set in the Temeraire universe. Hilarious and delightful Feral Temeraire AU.
Just ok: media that I didn't hate, and maybe even enjoyed
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore

Moira's Pen by Megan Whalen Turner
Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)

Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
Selected Discworlds: Thief of Time, Unseen Academicals (reread)
The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Andrew Sean Greer (reread)
The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer
"Louise", Gobelins 2021 graduation animated short. Pretty good, but not god tier.
The Time of the Ghost by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
Less by Andrew Sean Greer. Most of it was a slog, but the ending was wonderfully tender.
The Merlin Conspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore
The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke
Are You Listening? by Tillie Walden
Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
Spinning by Tillie Walden
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (reread)

White Cat Legend (大理寺日志) manhua through chapter 186
A Monster in Paris - movie (rewatch)
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - movie

The Moorchild by Eloise McGraw
Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms (封神第一部:朝歌风云) - movie
Our Flag Means Death - season 2
Skellig by David Almond (reread). Even more unsettling and magical than I remembered.
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (人渣反派自救系统) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
Savvy by Ingrid Law (reread)
The Silent Boy by Lois Lowry
Golden Age and Other Stories by Naomi Novik. "Golden Age" alone was amazing. Every thing else: meh.
Wonder by RJ Palacio except that the ending sucked
蓝溪镇 (Lanxi Zhen/Blue Creek Town) - manhua (reread), through chapter 112
Translation State by Ann Leckie
Disliked and often DNF'd
House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds
A Pale View of Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro
Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn
The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley
Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse
Palimpsest by Catherine Valente
Knives Out (2019) dir. Rian Johnson
The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nhi Vgo
Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots. Genuinely creative concept, enjoyable characters, and horrifying (affectionate) ending! Writing was just very, very bad.
The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore
Stowaway by Karen Hesse
Nirvana in Fire (狼牙榜) - ok objectively it was fine. It was just SO long that I started losing patience at multiple points.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes on (2021) dir. Dean Fleischer Camp
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor
Suzume - anime movie
Fairies Albums (百妖谱) - donghua

Frozen 2 - movie
Logan - movie
The Three Sisters of Tenmasou - movie
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Nothing new.
Bewilderment by Richard Powers
Nimona (2023) - movie
Prophet by Helen MacDonald and Sin Blache
One Piece - the live action Netflix series
Good Omens season 2
Birdwing by Rafe Martin
Blue Eye Samurai - netflix cartoon
Haven't You Heard I'm Sakamoto - anime
System Collapse by Martha Wells
The Cay by Theodore Taylor (reread)
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
Bottoms (2023) - movie
Daily Life of the Immortal King (仙王的日常生活) - donghua
Witch King by Martha Wells. Actually I enjoyed the Kai/Bashasa storyline a lot. The present-day storyline I found extremely boring. Which was unfortunate because it was more than half the book.
The King's Avatar (全职高手) - donghua
The Apothecary Diaries - anime
Assorted nonfiction
The Electricity of Every Living Thing by Katherine May. Bored. DNF
Alone in the Wilderness (2004) - dir. Dick Proenneke. Documentary of Proenneke's year spent living alone in the Alaskan wilderness. Neat look at one dude building a cabin, furniture, and all his accompanying household implements by hand.
A River Lost: The Life and Death of the Columbia by Blaine Harden. The human and environmental significance of the Columbia dam system.
Gifted Earth: The Ethnobotany of the Quinault and Neighboring Tribes by Douglas Deur. Guide to key native species and their traditional uses.
A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life by George Saunders. Four classic Russian short stories with accompanying technical analysis of their narrative construction. Great look at the process of writing and analyzing stories.
Animals Make Us Human by Temple Grandin - animal behavioral psychology
Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin - more animal behavioral psychology
Crying in HMart by Michelle Zauner. DNF. Felt like the book could have been 1/4 of its length. Mostly nothing new.
Wood in American Life: 1776-2076 by WG Youngquist and HO Fleischer. Wood use in America. Really makes you realize just how many things are now made out of plastic but used to be wood. And how much more difficult and expensive it was to make and replace objects.
Authentic Diversity: How to change the workplace for good by Michelle Silverthorn. Concise and nicely concrete. Would be a good starting place for an executive.
Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O'Neil - how some big data algorithms reinforce preexisting inequality, and how to improve them.
The Relationship Cure by Joan Declaire and John M. Gottman. The classic originator of the "bids for attention" approach. Pretty good, most helpful was the part where it identifies the styles of responses.
Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers: A Retirement and Aging Roadmap for Single and Childless Adults by Sara Zeff Geber
A Wolf at the Table by Augusten Burroughs
the excellent hyperlocal nature guidebook I bought after encountering the author at the mall
Your Money or Your Life: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence, by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. 2018 ed.

Did you have any Motorcity related dreams?
I had a dream where I found out that Disney were to make a Videogame with the series with Disney Interactive, but it was a reskin if their Cars 2 Videogame with the same gameplay mechanics.
what a dream.. :,(
i had a few dreams. i think i had 4 but i only remember 3. they kept getting longer and longer but then ig i stopped remembering bc there were so many details i was putting into my dream journal i got tired of writing it all 💀
one was at the very end of a dream. i was drawing in a car and then red broke into the window HEAD FIRST. then i woke up :p
the next one was during a live stream on youtube where for some reason it was being paired with another video game that was coming out and it was just someone playing the demo until it switched to a laggy “season 2 episode” of motorcity (which was apparently the first one??). all i remember was the burners without their cars in front of a giant white building with a few kaneco soldiers at the front in a blizzard. the doors were opening and there was just a bright green light shining through and then it ended. i cried that morning /j
and then this last one i remember was in a house?? it was dark, RLLY dark like there were literally no light sources besides the kitchen which was right behind the living room. it felt so weird bc the whole house was completely realistic while mike and chuck were still cartoony n stuff. IT WAS LIKE MOTORCITY ENTERED CN CITY!! but the actual scenario wasnt rlly like that, mike was trying to find chuck in this dim house surrounded by these weird shadow creatures?? it was mostly just him sneaking around until he found chuck trying to shake one off his arm in some other room. and then i woke up. i was confused.. lol

what are your top 10 favorite cartoons :?
this is such a difficult question i am both phenomenally indecisive and have a phenomenally bad memory so i don't think i can make a concise top ten but i Can randomly list off ten random ones i know i like in no particular order. or more than ten if i get extra indecisive
arcane genuinely is That Good regardless of the fact it's league of legends i don't care. it could do without the extended bureaucracy subplot but other than that everything else is Really Good especially the animation. i also never finished infinity train i only watched the first two seasons but one day i Need to finish it because that also is so so so so goddamn good genuinely
i also never finished rise of the TMNT just because of the "if i don't watch the last episode then it doesn't have to end" thing but while it was ongoing i rewatched the whole thing many many times it has i think, bar none, The Best fight choreography in animation except for maybe the barbershop gunfight in FLCL but rottmnt's animation is consistently so goddamn good that kind of motion is how i want to animate especially because i think(assume) it's combination puppet rigs and handdrawn which is A) a pretty standard animation technique these days and B) extremely good when done well (for example in rottmtn) also rottmnt is how i decided to start drawing square skulls i think it looks nice the art style is really fucking good. rottmnt might be the closest thing i have to a number one now that i think about it
the 2017 ducktales reboot is also very good my favorite character is boyd because he is a very good fun astroboy expy. futurama is also very good but again i never finished it despite how many times i have restarted from the beginning i am just bad at keeping up with shit i have to get VERY autistic about it. kipo was also very fun from what i watched of it but then i lost steam and never finished it
there are so goddamn many shows that i just have not gotten the momentum to watch yet because i need to be in a Very specific mindset to start a new series that i may or may not get attached to like i wish i could list off symbiotic titan too cuz i've been meaning to watch it since forever but i cannot vouch for something i have not seen yet. i have seen 2/3 seasons of transformers animated though which is A) very good and B) is exactly how i want to be able to draw mecha they look so Shaped and Streamlined and you can Tell Them Apart From A Distance it rules i still have the watchcartoononline tab for TFA open in this very firefox window since last july or whenever my ex told me to watch it one day i will finish it. motorcity from the one or two episodes i watched of it is also very good i ADORE the animation i need to finish that one day. there are lots of shows i have only watched the pilot episode of Literally for research purposes
i also really liked clone high + want that art style so bad you have no idea. moongirl and devil dinosaur is the most recent thing i have gotten around to watching and it is Very good and reminds me a lot of mlaatr which is a good thing i recommend watching moongirl it's fun the musical fight sequences are exactly some shit i have always wanted to do. also everyone needs to watch oddtaxi it's a strong contender for my favorite show ever it's SO goddamn well written i NEED to develop the ability to write something as intricately interwoven as oddtaxi my god. like at least give the first four episodes a shot cuz episode four is the marker point when it got so extremely good it skyrocketed to the top of my favorite animated whatever list

rating every cartoon i’ve watched stoned based on how good a stoner show it is
as told by ginger: pretty solid. what starts off as a yuri plot turns into a straight soap opera, which isn’t as good. the appendix scene high is a fucking trip tho 7/10
king of the hill: seasons 1-7 are REALLY good for weed. seasons 8 and onward, not so much, but you can get a bit out of them. makes you understand what those tvtropes guys were on about. 9/10
inanimate insanity invitational: this show was made to be watched while high. it’s not a good show, but every single joke feels hilarious that’s what really matters. 10/10
kim possible: don’t watch kim possible when you’re high the show gets so much worse. you can notice the weird animation a lot easier and you realize how much of the dialogue is proto-marvel. 2/10
penn zero part time hero: i don’t remember anything. 4/10
higglytown heroes: this show while high feels like a guided meditation among b-list celebrities being lead by a five year old. 9/10
teamo supremo: feels like nails are scratching at your brain for some reason. 0/10
hamtaro: kind of annoying. you start to get an inkling that laura’s dad Knows about the ham-hams. 5/10
elena of avalor: it’s good high but it’s also just as good sober. points off for me having to go through the immortality song while high. 8/10
futurama: you’d think this would be a good pick but really the entire time i was coding what voice actor was doing what impressions and who among them could have had gender dysphoria. 6/10
rugrats (2021): one of the babies was racist, grandpa lou was a bisexual man who did shrooms but he’s straight and straightedge now, and stu stepped in chuckie’s piss. 0/10
bluey: if you perceive bluey as a show intended for grown ups disguised as a kid show, you’ll get nothing out of it. if you perceive it as a show for babies and act as though bandit is the prime antagonistic force in bluey’s life, it’ll be fun. 7/10
robot and monster: was a fine weed show until i got to the episode where robot’s brother started abusing him physically and financially. then i felt miserable for days after. 3/10
motorcity: like elena of avalor, it’s already fun sober, but it’s cool to notice how each burner feels like a character from a different show. 8/10
the rocketeer (2019): like king of the hill, very subdued, which means it’s PERFECT for stoners to notice the minute details and act like the characters are stronger than they are. 10/10
xiaolin chronicles: DON’T. -10/10

Capri Chilton and The Jagged Scrappers (A Motorcity Headcanon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the wastelands beyond Detroit Deluxe brings home to a nomadic team of rebels who fight for survival: The Jagged Scrappers. Led by former Deluxian Capri Chilton and composing of Mack Packard, Wu Wenquian, Rashida Agrinya, and Seraphina Martel. They fight for their own lives in their rusted, beat up vehicles. This team is ready to face any sort of threat they face, especially against Kane’s drones that he sends to the outskirts to ensure that nobody enters Detroit Deluxe or Motorcity. Not to mention the rival gangs that are present throughout the wastelands from NYC to Cleveland to LA.

For those not in the know, Capri Chilton was a planned character for Season 2 of Motorcity. She was supposed to be Mike Chilton’s older sister. The only thing planned about her was lived in the wastelands beyond Deluxe and Motorcity.

This was my take on what she would have been like, expanding what we know and elaborating her character by giving her a team to act as a parallel to The Burners.
I don’t have names for the cars yet except for Capri’s (The Kane Crusher). Leave suggestions in the comments below…
