Indigo Dyeing

Last week we experimented with indigo dyeing by using the powdered dye. Many people achieved a variety of results based on how long they oxidized their material and the way they bound their material together. The more you oxidize the material you've dyed the darker and richer the color will come out. Creative patterns can also be created by binding the material with yarn, rubbers, or whatever can tightly secure it but the tighter you bind the material will reduce the amount of dye that's able to reach its surface.

I’ve attached a video of how the entire natural dyeing process happens, from the picking of the indigo plant to the soaking and fermentation process and so on. There’s also an article on the history and origin of indigo and how it has impacted our lives, especially since it relates to blue jeans which is one of our most common pieces of clothing.
