Love that opening line - "Totally sane techno boffin-cum-car salesman Elon Musk"
Although I would probably dispute the term 'techno boffin'. I doubt he knows a single fucking thing about the neuralink chip.

There's something that always bothers me about people saying "Barbara going back to being disabled" doesn't matter if it's positive, negative, or neutral. It's the "going back" part because it's just not true. She wouldn't be going back, she would just be without assistive medical technology.
In the closest real-life example, not everyone who uses similar technology is considered "cured" as the removal of the device would mean they are no longer enabled. In only a few cases have I ever seen "cured" but that's potentially dependent on injury/cause of disability where it was possible the device just made recovery easier and there are many different causes to SCIs/paralysis/similar conditions. Others have no chance of recovery but have a chance of being enabled. But still not fully becoming an able-bodied person. Even some of the ones who recovered their ability to walk were still limited in what they were capable of (and therefore still disabled)
So honestly now, it's just coming to me how bad representation the chip is of similar realistic treatment and disabled people who use that treatment. Before anyone is like "But Barbara's isn't real" I know that, but now I'm literally seeing people say the same shit about REAL PEOPLE who have had nearly THE SAME TREATMENT because they're letting poor representation in a comic book determine how they view this course of medical treatment.
TLDR: No Barbara Gordon wouldn't "go back" to being disabled without the chip. Writers and fans aren't good at writing disability and it shows

Neuralink methods are unsafe at this stage given the animal deaths and shouldn’t be greenlit for human clinical trials. Calling it eugenics because of that is a bit much though.
There are other research projects doing similar, but safer, methods to help paralyzed people though. I hope people try to get on these research lists and don’t turn to musk out of desperation
It isn’t really a reach to call a procedure with over 60% mortality rate being marketed as a miracle cure to the disabled an example of eugenics. Frankly, there is a stronger word I’m tempted to use for it.
I don’t believe Elon Musk is unaware of the dangers. I don’t think any of the high profile scientists he hired are either.
At absolute best faith I can see Musk simply not caring about the risk and just using this as a desperate attempt at making back some money since he lost so much with twitter and SpaceX.
That’s giving him the most benefit of the doubt imaginable.
However, I would not call it overly cynical to suspect that this may be intentional. Is Musk really stupid enough to just think it’ll be fine because he’s the main character? Yeah, that’s plausible. It’s not any less plausible to say there’s an ulterior motive. Not when he rubs elbows with far-right figures often. Not when he’s a billionaire rich on his parents’ bloodied slave money.
I don’t trust a white man who grew up reaping the benefits of apartheid to be a friend to the disabled. I think the goal in this project has less to do with improving quality of life for the disabled and more for making the disabled less inconvenient to their abled caretakers. It’s very much giving 21st century lobotomy.

Back in 2021, Elon Musk and his company Neuralink successfully chipped monkeys for the first time. Even then, this news made a splash.
However, they didn't stop there. The other day, Neuralink received permission to conduct human trials and very soon the first test subjects will appear. After successful tests, one of the first patients will be Elon Musk himself.
According to Elon himself, his chip will provoke new neural connections, which will help treat brain injuries, depression, blindness and deafness.

Now with a brain chip you can be tracked via satellite by a federally bankrolled chauvinistic billionaire fascist.
Enjoy.

Elon Musk's Neuralink Implants First Brain Chip in Human: A Look at the Tech and the Future
Tumblr media
Elon Musk's brain-computer interface (BCI) company, Neuralink, has taken a significant step forward with the successful implantation of its first wireless brain chip in a human patient.
This marks a major milestone in the field of neurotechnology and has sparked both excitement and debate about the potential of this technology.
What is Neuralink's Brain Chip?
The chip, currently in its early stages of development, is designed to connect the human brain directly to computers.
It uses thin, flexible threads implanted in the brain to record and transmit neural activity wirelessly.
This technology has the potential to revolutionize how we interact with the world around us, potentially allowing for mind-controlled devices, enhanced communication for those with disabilities, and even treatment for neurological conditions.
Initial Results and Future Goals:
While the initial results only show promising detection of neural activity, it's a significant first step.
Musk has stated that the first product, called "Telepathy," aims to enable control of phones, computers, and other devices using only thoughts.
He envisions this technology initially benefiting those with paralysis, allowing them to communicate and interact with the world more easily.
Challenges and Concerns:
Despite the potential benefits, Neuralink's technology faces several challenges and ethical concerns.
Safety is paramount, and the company has faced criticism regarding its animal testing practices.
Additionally, the potential for misuse and the ethical implications of directly accessing and manipulating brain activity need careful consideration.
The Race for Brain-Computer Interfaces:
Neuralink is not alone in this field. Other companies, like Blackrock Neurotech and Precision Neuroscience, are also developing similar technologies.
This race for BCI dominance could lead to rapid advancements, but it's crucial to ensure responsible development and prioritize safety and ethical considerations.

The Future of Neurotechnology:
Neuralink's first human implant is just the beginning.
As BCI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more groundbreaking applications in various fields, from healthcare and communication to entertainment and gaming.
However, it's important to approach this technology with caution and ensure it's developed and used ethically and responsibly.
This blog post provides an informative overview of Neuralink's recent achievement, its potential impact, and the challenges and considerations surrounding this emerging technology.
It encourages readers to stay informed and engage in discussions about the future of neurotechnology.

just found out about neuralink. what the fuck. what the fuck. there’s a market for this? why do we live in a bad 80s sci fi book? and why, out of all the bad 80s scifi inventions we could invent, are we going with brain chips instead of like, jet packs and flying cars? or just, not to be too controversial, clean energy and fossil fuel alternatives? also unsurprisingly elon musk has no issue with gruesome animal experimentation!

So the Elongated Muskrat is making another push at his literal brain chip, Neuralink. You know, that thing magats and antivaxxers were making a huge fuss about supposedly being in the covid vaccine.
Right on schedule, as soon as the apartheid emerald mine fortune baby announced his own brain chip, his bootlickers went straight to deepthroating the polish off of his toes.
