Ismhd okay so i made art a LONG while back that was like, Bubby and Coomer! Right? I love their ship, infact the way they are drawn is so specific and it REMINDED me of..idk..Crowley and Aziraphale.

The logic behind that is how the fandom draws them like Crowley. Little mean with a soft heart, and wears cool black stuff and stylish, TALL AND VERY SKINNY while Coomer is drawn as chubby, lil man who's nice but also a little bastard. So i was like "Hah! Oh man! Reminds me of another ship! Infact i wanna draw em like that! >:0" then i drew them dressed AS them!

Now, i wanted to kinda re draw that piece cause its old and my artskills have MAJORLY improved. But folks loved it! And MONTHS later when ive already forgotten about the post some..person was like "this is so antisemitic to draw Bubby as a literal demon"

Now obviously as someone with RSD i choked, first of all. SECOND of all this person CLEARLY missed the mark that??? Of course i drew him as Crowley thats the part of the joke- COOMER IS AZIRAPHALE it doesn't work the other way around tho maybe for a joke it can cause that would be funny ("Gordon! Im a demon! And i require your soul as debt~❤"). Third, this...this art was made way long before this whole ENTIRE THING WITH him being called jewish suddenly and his new rules.

The reason he's concidered jewish is because Gir used one of the random scientist old man npcs which aparently later on in the games was turned into Dr Kliener? And the name Kliener is a name of jewish origin. And even tho the fandom had decided.

Which is actually my number one fear so it certainly did the trick! I just..left! I got to scared of doing something wrong or even asking. Cause its a bit feral even if you wanna genuinely ask why. And btw this isnt "UHG STUPID RULES" and more like "oh god oh fuck--"

Although I am still not doing so great on the finding books I actually like front, I am discovering interesting things about how I feel about fiction.

What’s odd, though, is that a lot of the time, I seem to react opposite to how fiction writing wisdom says I ought to react. I think fiction writing wisdom has some other kind of consumer in mind.

The strongest example of this is my typical response to stories killing off main characters. What it’s supposed to do: increase the tension. What it actually does: make me check out entirely. There are a few times when authors have killed off characters so organically to the story that it’s worked (though I still can’t say that it increased the tension), but nine times out of ten, you just lost me.

But there are other interest grabbing tricks that don’t work right. Cliffhangers at the end of chapters are arguably effective, except for the fact that I generally read books straight through in one sitting anyway. And if you have too many cliffhangers and too short a chapters, I’ll notice, and very quickly start being inappropriately amused by them. (Lookin’ at you, Dan Brown. Though your books are unintentionally hilarious in all kinds of ways.)

Being too cryptic about what’s going on can make me lose interest instead of sucking me in. (Especially if I haven’t properly bonded with the characters.) Getting to tricksy with timelines can also lose me. Basically, I need to have a certain level of understanding of what’s happening in order to stay interested.

(Movies can botch this in yet another way by shooting action scenes with so many cuts or so much shaky cam that I can’t follow the action. Seriously, if I’m not supposed to be able to tell what’s going on, just hit the lights and have the actors shout a lot. It’ll convey exactly the same amount of information. Possibly more information if your actors have distinctive voices.

Movies and TV shows can also fuck this up by shooting in Real-O-Vision and making everything so dark and drab that I can’t tell what’s happening. And/or who it’s happening to.)

Only getting characters from the point of view of other characters can work - I enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes stories, for instance - but the more the non-viewpoint character is the central character, the higher the risk of losing me. I need to form some kind of bond with the character the story is about, dang it. (And, in the case of Sherlock Holmes, I suspect that Watson’s bond with Holmes helped a great deal.)

Dropping shocking information only works if it’s actually shocking. Otherwise, I’m just going to be confused and probably thrown out of the story. A kind and gentle character being accused of murder is shocking. A violent jerk of a character doing something kind is surprising. The opposite of these? Not. Shocking.

(I once read a space adventure book in which the main character “shockingly” killed someone. Except that they’d been involved in loads of violence already and there was nothing in their thoughts or previous actions to suggest that killing people was normally off the table. Instead of being shocked, I was all “Wait, what, did the author think they were conveying that this guy wasn’t that kind of guy? Because ooh boy did they not convey what they meant to convey.”)

Also, the harder you try to trick me, the more likely I am to notice and to try to figure out the twist. I resent being jerked around. Just ask the English teacher who drew two intersecting lines on the blackboard and then asked us what it was. He was rather thrown off when I answered that it was two intersecting lines. He wanted someone to say “a cross” or “a plus sign” so that he could correct them and tell them it was two intersecting lines. And I knew he wanted that. *grins evilly*

Sell tickets to an amusement park or a magic show, and I’m there, ready to be entertained. Set up an adversarial relationship and I will point out every string and wire and steal the cards out of your sleeves before you’re even to that part of the act.

And that’s what it all boils down to: I want fun. I want to be entertained. Tick those boxes and all else is forgiven. I don’t care if the plot is cheesy or the monsters have zippers. I won’t notice your plot holes. Or, if I do, I won’t actually care. I just need characters and a story I connect with in some way (and that I can follow), a good fun ride, a satisfying ending, and not too many of the tropes I really hate. Simple.

Except not. Because holy crap is that hard to find. The adversarial relationship between storyteller and audience is in. Tricking the audience is in. (And not in the fun magic trick sense. In the “I’m smarter than you” sense.) Grim dark is in. Gritty is in. Assuming that the audience will bond with any character if you stick “protagonist” on them is in. Tropes that I hate never seem to die.

Even stories that don’t make me want to fling them aside with great force keep causing me to put them down and not pick them back up because they failed to give me anything to connect to. Stuff is happening to this person. Okay. Why should I care? Are they likable? Are they interesting? Is the plot interesting? Is there even enough of them to make some kind of connection to? No? Why am I trying to read this again?

I keep eight deadly wordsing out of things. Though in some ways, it’s more the five deadly words: “I don’t care what happens.” Because it isn’t always that the characters are, as TV Tropes puts it, “so universally bland and unengaging or so unlikable and unsympathetic.” Sometimes they’re not there at all. (As in, all of the time is being spent with characters who the story isn’t about, so there’s no reason to connect with them, and there’s no way to connect with the protagonist because the author keeps them shoved way over there.) Rewatching “Batman” (1989)

Decided to rewatch this classic before I watch the new Justice League movie that’s out this week

I, for one, am so glad Danny Elfman brought the Batman theme back into “Justice League”

I like that we don’t actually meet Bruce until like 20 minutes into the movie.  Plus they establish him as a mystery character- technically the main characters at the beginning of the movie is Knox and Vicki and then it shifts to Batman.  And then again, we don’t get a lot of background on either Batman or Bruce.

I never really had time to appreciate how great Michael Keaton is as Bruce Wayne but dang he’s good.  And I love the reasoning behind this casting:  there’s no way he could be seen as Batman and when we do find out, it’s a big shock.

Holy crap, how many cameras are set up around the manor?

Kinda AU: Irene (as a dragon) meeting Natsu in a cave. Let your imagination fly.

            DragonSlayers could be precocious, mischievous little monsters… especially when theywere so young. Take your eyes off of them for one moment, and you really mightcome to regret it…

            “Caves…Caves definitely shoulda been the first place I checked. I mean, where else isthat jerk gonna sleep? When I find Igneel, I’m gonna…” The extremely shortpink-haired boy grumbled in annoyance as he climbed an intimidating cliff-facethat overlooked a very deadly drop. One misstep could find him impaled on the sharprock formations in the abyss below, but Natsu Dragneel didn’t give a crap aboutstupid pointy rocks. He saw a cave situated somewhere up here, and moreimportantly, he smelled dragon. And since he didn’t know any other dragons,that had to mean this was Igneel hewas smellin’. On the off-chance it wasn’t, this dragon could at least point himin the right direction, ‘cause who better to ask where a dragon would run offto than another dragon? It’s not like this other dragon would attack him oranything.

            … Sharp asa tack, this boy. But after a lot more climbing, the tenacious kid reached hisdestination. And of course he didn’t waste any time, marching fearlessly intothe looming darkness.

            “Igneel,you in here?! Come out already so I can kick your ass for leavin’ me behind!”Natsu hollered, looking left and right as he wandered further into the enormouscave. His ears had been picking up a deep rumbling for a while now, even whenhe was climbing on the cliff outside. And he knew exactly what that rumblingwas, ‘cause Igneel made the same sounds when he was asleep. Dragon snores werenoisy as hell.

             Here Natsu tensed and stood rooted in place.No sooner had he stumbled upon the dragon than did it begin to stir. Definitelywasn’t Igneel – the coloring and overall appearance was all wrong; and if Natsuwasn’t going crazy, this one gave off the impression that it wasn’t a male,like Igneel. He couldn’t place why he “knew” that for certain though; call it agut feeling.

            True toform, the dragon’s eyes didn’t flutter open… they snapped open, knowing fullwell someone else was there.

            “What areyou doing here…?” When the dragon spoke up in a growl, Natsu was more certainof his gut feeling. This had to be one of those “girl” things that Igneeltaught him about. Though admittedly, the little Pyro couldn’t recall evermeeting one to know for sure.

            “I camehere lookin’ for Igneel! He’s a big ol’ dragon like you, and he ditched me!Maybe you’ve heard of him – he’s like the King of the Fire Dragons, y’know? Doyou know where he ran off to?” Natsu’s face settled into a determined scowl,unintimidated by the dragon’s narrowed eyes.

            IreneBelserion was truly at a loss. There was a reason she had come out to thisdesolate no-man’s land… She just wanted to be left alone. Four hundred yearsshe’d endured living as a dragon; not once did she take her own life, becausethat meant killing the life within her womb as well. The sudden appearance ofthat infamous Black Wizard had been a godsend – at least, that’s what Irenebelieved at first, when he gave her back her human form. Yet the punches keptcoming. She was still a dragon, and that meant she couldn’t do all those thingsthat she liked to do as a human, even while in that form.

            And so…Irene isolated herself. In hindsight, perhaps she should have been grateful toZeref for allowing her to finally give birth after four hundred years, but shejust couldn’t help feeling bitter over the whole ordeal. Yes, her daughter wassafe and sound somewhere, though she didn’t know how much time had passed sinceleaving her daughter in the care of that church. Yes, she could change into ahuman at will. But it wasn’t true humanlife. She couldn’t taste food, she didn’t needto sleep, being in a human form didn’t agree with her physiology, whichremained that of a dragon.

            How couldIrene possibly show appreciation to a man that had given her false hope? She despised that man. Her sanity hadalready dwindled away, and he’d dared toapproach her and offer his “help”. But in the end, none of that mattered in thecurrent situation. It was true that another reason for her isolation was thatshe couldn’t bring herself to trust even humankind anymore, but there wassomething about this boy that made him… differentfrom all her past experiences. For one, he wasn’t just a human; the boy spouting about a dragon parent couldn’t bewritten off as delusions or lies, and there was two reasons for that. For one,she had vague recollections of hearing the epithet “Fire Dragon King Igneel”four hundred years ago. And for two…

This boy believed she could help him despite being a “big,scary dragon”… Or perhaps especially becauseshe was a “big, scary dragon.” Never mind that not all dragons were guaranteedto know one another; if this mountain was close enough to where he and Igneelwere staying previously, it was a reasonable assumption. Even if it was stillwrong, in this case.

            Still…

            ‘Hmm.’ Irene pondered what to do.Technically, she had no obligation to help this boy. He bothered to come allthe way up here to search for his father; he should be prepared to make thereturn trip on his own power. And if he made a misstep and fell to his death, itwould have been his own fault, not hers. Irene Belserion owed this worldnothing, much less this boy; the only people she “owed” anything was Acnologiaand a certain Black Wizard, and the only thing she owed them was a painfuldemise. But this boy… ‘He might as wellhave a clean slate. Igneel may have raised him to this point, but this childwould have largely lived outside of society, if Igneel has lived as long as Ihave. Dragons aren’t exactly allies ofhumanity anymore…’

            Well, for the most part. Irenewould allow that there might besympathetic humans in this day and age, but she would wager that with dragonson the verge of extinction that their memory has been tainted by myths andlegends of their capacity for violence and bloodshed. A majority of peoplewould either scoff at the boy and not help him in his search, or they would “help”him so that they could try and kill the Fire Dragon King. It was hard toimagine any “positive” scenario for this youngling.

            That wasn’tquite enough to persuade her to help him, per se… But it did illustrate thatshe was woefully ignorant of the current outside world. She’d been in isolationfor so long, and now that a First Generation Slayer had fallen into her lap… ithad her curious. Perhaps they could hit two birds with one stone…

            “Child.”Irene spoke sternly to snap the rose-haired boy out of his tantrum. “How wouldyou like to travel with me for a while…? I can’t promise we’ll find Igneel, butwe can at least attempt to do so together.”

            Natsustared up at Irene in shock. He didn’t know why, but up ‘til now he got thesense she wasn’t gonna help him at all. She didn’t know where Igneel was, andshe didn’t seem in the mood to leave the cave they were in. So why ask her formore than she was already willing to give him? If Igneel was any indication,dragons could be stubborn as hell.

            … But thenagain, so could he.

            “R-Really?!You’ll help?!” A huge grin swept across his face as Irene’s wings opened up totheir full length.

            “I cannotpromise to lend my aid forever…” Irene strictly warned the boy, who eagerlyclimbed up her side to get on her back. “But I will help so long as you keep me…interested.”

            For indeed,taking the entirety of their meeting into consideration, Irene’s curiosity wasaroused by this foolhardy child. His eagerness to find Igneel reminded her alot of the bond she used to share with… Belserion. It was bittersweet. And ifshe could help it, she would make sure he found his father. Deep down, therewas simply some part of her that did not want to see this child colored by thecruel world that had betrayed her. She did not want to see him disappointed,shunned, or manipulated.

            Yet shealso did not want to fall into temptation… This was what made her wary the mostof travelling around with this boy. She managed to ensure her daughter wouldlive her own life; but if she again became consumed with the desire to becomehuman… in his body… Irene would have to part ways with him. There was no otheralternative.

            “I’ll dowhatever you want! Flying’s gonna make this search sooo much easier!” Hecontinued to give a cheesy grin, and Irene snorted in a mixture of amusementand… dread.

            ‘That’s the problem… Don’t let me hang thatpromise over your head.’ Irene mused to herself dryly. Stretching her legs,Irene prepared to take off for the first time in what must have been years… “Atleast tell me your name.”

            “Natsu!Natsu Dragneel!” The rose-haired boy boisterously answered and held on tight.Irene smirked. Wise move.

            “Very well –and you may call me Irene.” With introductions out of the way, Irene shot outof the cave like a bullet, the young Dragon Slayer laughing and having the timeof his life as she briefly swooped down close to the sharp rock formationsbefore curving back up and giving Natsu a grand view of the mountains and thenearby valley.

            Theiradventure had only just begun…

overall entertaining and well-animated, though I still prefer the original

some of the story tweaks were neat and I especially liked the subplot about the cursed servants becoming less sentient(?) as time went on

others were kinda unnecessary imo, the whole opening scene being a glaring example. also giving the Enchantress a bigger role is neat in theory but kinda definitely raises a few Questions

not fond of the autotuned lead singer which is even more obvious comparing soundtracks

the furniture designs cannot grow on me They Simply Can Not, you can’t get nearly as many lines of action or squash & stretch out of a hyperrealistic CGI teapot

on that note the original’s beast design is still the best design, shout-out to my family for calling the live-action prince a “surfer dude”

at the end of the day idk what to make of the LeFou Discourse(TM) but shout-out to the little bit where Potts was like “you’re too good for him [Gaston]” and all things considered I thought it was a biiit more than what those cynical meme posts suggest. mind I’m not sure what I would’ve thought if I didn’t know about the whole shebang beforehand

Universal Harvester by John Darnielle - if you recognize that name it’s because, as I found out after reading, he’s the guy who leads the band responsible for a song I had on repeat hell for at least a couple months after discovering it via this wonderful, wonderful "lyric.. comic... thing” </ungodly run-on>

if this seems completely out of nowhere it’s because it is. I’ve jacketed and shelved a lot of new books, and while a good handful catch my interest, few compel me to check it out before heading home for the day

off the top of my head the other most recent book this happened with was No One Else Can Have You by Kathleen Hale (heads up for a non-graphic image of hanging on the cover), which was... oh holy shit that was over three years ago I don’t read often enough nowadays x_x

that one started strong but, around if not at the point where the protag was making out with the secondary dude, took a sharp turn towards the cliche & general What Is This Fuckery. but I digress

seriously no image on the internet can do this cover justice, the vaguely vaporwave-lookin part is actually very dark and the whole thing shines like one of those rain puddles mixed with.. gasoline? oil?? whatever makes it rainbow-y at a certain angle

I only skimmed the inside flap description before diving right in the night I took it out, and I realized a good chapter or two in that I’d unintentionally picked up a horror novel.

well. kinda? horror-ish?? despite there being no killer on the loose, no supernatural monster on the prowl, not even an invasion of alien farmers federally paid to invade your small town, basically no imminent looming dagger above the protagonist’s head, it’s VERY unsettling for the most part and I gotta give it major kudos for that

<SPOILER class=“mild”>also huge shout-out to the subtle switch to first-person at a key moment, then scattered throughout from there on.</SPOILER> it was at that point I had to reread the description to see what I’d actually gotten myself into and decided I was gonna read this sucker in one sitting or I wouldn’t be able to sleep

(skip this bullet point if you don’t like vague ending spoilers) despite that it manages to leave off on a somber, even sentimental note. pretty darn satisfying, though upon further thought there are a few big questions left unanswered that probably should’ve been addressed. (/vague end spoilers)

overall I’d recommend it if you’re looking for an interesting little read that might send a few chills from atmosphere alone but also makes you think*. just don’t start reading expecting a chapter or two before bed will do help you fall asleep.

*yeah yeah I know “makes you think” is something of a meme phrase at this point, but screw it I like my media when it actually engages the viewer/reader for more satisfying payoff. I’m not a fan of the “lol intellectualis” thing anyway V: but I digress.

my god Laika really likes their bugs and creepy hands (based on this and Coraline at least, I’ve seen ParaNorman but don’t remember much). this is absolutely a compliment.

voice acting didn’t thrill me, with the exceptions of the old lady & spirit sisters, but got dang those facial expressions

magic worldbuilding left a lot to be desired but it took place in fantasy China(/Japan? as with The Last Airbender I think we’re looking at another fictional Asian blend) and I for one am a sucker for that so I can let it slide

climactic fight felt kinda shoehorned, when the moon spirit dude showed up looking like a nice old man I almost thought they were gonna go for a less confrontational ending sequence - which I guess it kinda did but also the obligatory “join me and we can rule forever” stuff came up. I dunno I liked the spirit fish form ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

don’t get me wrong here I did enjoy it, I guess I was just expecting a lot more from all the talk about kids being able to handle mature themes and whatnot? ah well the conflict wasn’t quite Good Versus Evil so that was neat

Wings of Fire Book 1: The Dragonet Prophecy - Iiiii actually haven’t finished reading this one just yet, saving the last part for when I finish at least one mcfucking assignment, but here goes nothin:

if you take a shot for every blatant violation of Show Don’t Tell you’ll be dead three chapters in, not sure if that’s because this is a middle-grade book or what

that said I find the plot & its overall direction intriguing enough to continue and, much as I may internally groan at the repetitive characterization and disney villain dialogue, I thought it was worthwhile and already have the next book checked out ;V

what can I say there are dragons there’s a war and it’s a very interesting take on the whole “because you are the Chosen Ones we will raise you here for hero training” deal

there’s also some intriguing worldbuilding with regards to the “scavengers” and “the Scorching,” not sure how much those are covered in this book but a friend who recommended the series in the first place says it’s some kind of post-apocalyptic thing?? nice.

not really related but shout-out to that one commenter in Script Frenzy who told me it was jarring or weird or something to have my dragon protags straight-up eat a few human researchers. They did it. They finally did it.

By “they,” I mean Congress … and by “it,” I mean a stimulus package deal to combat the coronavirus.

The Senate and the White House announced late last night that they reached an agreement on a historic $2 trillion spending bill. (That’s trillion with a T.)

That’s wonderful news, Mr. Great Stuff! Now, what’s in this spending bill? Where’s my stimulus money?!

Well, reportedly, every American who makes less than $75,000 will receive a cash payment of $1,200 — $2,400 for married couples making less than $150,000 — plus $500 per child. If you make more than the specified amounts, your payout will be reduced.

And the rest?

There’s a $350 billion fund for small businesses to help with payroll and stem layoffs.

There’s $58 billion for airlines. I know from your emails that airline bailouts are very … um … “popular” with Great Stuff readers — especially since the bill won’t require airlines to pay back that money. However, the Senate says that airlines that take bailout cash will be prohibited from stock buybacks and CEO bonuses … so that’s something.

And there’s also the infamous $500 billion fund to help businesses hit by the coronavirus.

This one was a particular sticking point. In the original bill, there was no oversight on how this money was doled out. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was originally the sole proprietor of this cash fund, and companies that took money were allowed to remain anonymous for six months.

However, there will now be an oversight panel headed by independent counsel to help adjudicate (in other words, “make it rain”) that half a trillion dollars.

To paraphrase Chandler Bing from Friends: “Could we be any more stimulated?”

The Takeaway:

It’s important to remember that the Senate hasn’t actually passed this $2 trillion monstrosity yet. And, while the Senate is expected to vote to pass it today, the House is still in recess and probably won’t vote until Friday.

Until it’s actually passed, we won’t know exactly what’s in the bill. That means some of these figures and details are subject to change.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Well … at least I hope I know what you’re thinking. It’s what I’m thinking…

Where’s the money to actually fight COVID-19?

It’s there, just in much smaller figures than the actual stimulus.

There’s reportedly $150 billion to aid states and local municipalities to fight the pandemic.

There’s also $55 billion for hospitals and the general health care system.

That seems like a relatively small portion of the $2 trillion. It has me worried that legislators were more interested in dumping cash into the economy than addressing the central issue.

And if you think I’m overreacting, just wait…

Tomorrow’s weekly jobless claims report will be an eye-opener. Next week’s report will be even worse.

Good: Take These Broken Wings…

Airline stocks soared today, and the stimulus eagle hasn’t even landed yet. (I’m a little creeped out by “stimulus eagle,” but whatever…)

American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL), Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) and others went vertical to the tune of 10% or more on the bailout news. The original offer for $50 billion in loans was tempting … but the new promise of grants that airlines might not have to repay? That has everyone in the sector just giddy.

Now, you may ask yourself: “Why are airlines ‘good,’ Mr. Great Stuff?”

And you may tell yourself: “Well, it’s good because airlines are less likely to go bankrupt now.”

But, if you invest in the airline sector right now, a few months down the road, you may ask yourself: “My God, what have I done?”

This bailout is good for the sector over the long term. But right now, my opinion is to let the days go by. (Let the water hold me up…) They most likely won’t go bankrupt now, but they are far from safe investments.

There will be a time to buy stocks like AAL and DAL, but now isn’t that time.

Better: Just Flu It

If you’re looking for a company that isn’t rallying because of $2 trillion in stimulus today, Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE) has you covered.

Sure, Nike could benefit from the added cash in consumers’ pockets, but earnings and projections are the real reason why NKE is up more than 10% today.

Nike’s third-quarter earnings topped the consensus estimate by $0.24 per share, with revenue beating expectations by $230 million. The coronavirus hurt profits, Nike said, but a resurgence of consumers in Asia appears very promising.

“Now all three markets are through what we’re calling recovery — that is, retail is opening back up — consumers are back on the street. And as we move into normalization, retail traffic is coming back,” CEO John Donahoe said in Nike’s conference call.

Nike reports that 80% of its stores in greater China are now reopened.

The company is sure to see some disruptions in U.S. sales as COVID-19 cases surge stateside, but Nike is looking a lot more stable now that Asian consumers are returning to stores.

Best: The Child Has Spoken

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding shelter-in-place companies like Zoom Video Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ZM) and Slack Technologies Inc. (NYSE: WORK), but I’ve seen little hard data to back up the euphoria.

But there are some data emerging this week for Disney+ operator The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) that you definitely need to see. According to a Forbes report, Disney+ saw sign-ups more than triple between March 14 and March 16 compared to the week prior — making it the most popular streaming coronavirus distraction by far.

Disney reported in February that it already had more than 28 million Disney+ subscribers, so we can probably expect major additions to this figure when the company releases official figures again.

Additionally, Hasbro Inc. (Nasdaq: HAS) — aka Disney’s toy division — is reporting strong demand for Baby Yoda merchandise and toys. Items like the animatronic Baby Yoda aren’t even available in stores yet, but preorders have already sold out.

Right now, many investors are shying away from DIS due to park closures and motion picture revenue concerns. However, if you already hold DIS or want a bargain in the COVID-19 sell-off, snapping up the stock for anything under $100 would be a steal.

It figures: Within minutes of seeing the “DEAL REACHED” headlines, posts started to crop up across my social media feeds, all mentioning what so-and-so plans to do with their stimulus check. (Hint: It probably shouldn’t be used to further expand your toilet paper empire. Probably.)

Unless the feds are leading up to one big “check’s in the mail” punchline … hold your horses, buckaroo!

Seriously, we haven’t seen the deal’s terms … we haven’t even seen the Senate’s vote on it, for Pete’s sake. Let’s not cash our stimulus eggs before they hatch. (Do hatched stimulus eggs turn into stimulus eagles? Perish the thought…)

By now, you know my side: I still see economic storm clouds fast approaching, and Wall Street just left its umbrella at home following a $2 trillion stimulus forecast.

Airline stocks soared today, and the stimulus eagle hasn’t even landed yet. (I’m a little creeped out by “stimulus eagle,” but whatever…)

American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL), Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) and others went vertical to the tune of 10% or more on the bailout news. The original offer for $50 billion in loans was tempting … but the new promise of grants that airlines might not have to repay? That has everyone in the sector just giddy.

Now, you may ask yourself: “Why are airlines ‘good,’ Mr. Great Stuff?”

And you may tell yourself: “Well, it’s good because airlines are less likely to go bankrupt now.”

But, if you invest in the airline sector right now, a few months down the road, you may ask yourself: “My God, what have I done?”

This bailout is good for the sector over the long term. But right now, my opinion is to let the days go by. (Let the water hold me up…) They most likely won’t go bankrupt now, but they are far from safe investments.

There will be a time to buy stocks like AAL and DAL, but now isn’t that time.

Better: Just Flu It

If you’re looking for a company that isn’t rallying because of $2 trillion in stimulus today, Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE) has you covered.

Sure, Nike could benefit from the added cash in consumers’ pockets, but earnings and projections are the real reason why NKE is up more than 10% today.

Nike’s third-quarter earnings topped the consensus estimate by $0.24 per share, with revenue beating expectations by $230 million. The coronavirus hurt profits, Nike said, but a resurgence of consumers in Asia appears very promising.

“Now all three markets are through what we’re calling recovery — that is, retail is opening back up — consumers are back on the street. And as we move into normalization, retail traffic is coming back,” CEO John Donahoe said in Nike’s conference call.

Nike reports that 80% of its stores in greater China are now reopened.

The company is sure to see some disruptions in U.S. sales as COVID-19 cases surge stateside, but Nike is looking a lot more stable now that Asian consumers are returning to stores.

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding shelter-in-place companies like Zoom Video Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ZM) and Slack Technologies Inc. (NYSE: WORK), but I’ve seen little hard data to back up the euphoria.

But there are some data emerging this week for Disney+ operator The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) that you definitely need to see. According to a Forbes report, Disney+ saw sign-ups more than triple between March 14 and March 16 compared to the week prior — making it the most popular streaming coronavirus distraction by far.

Disney reported in February that it already had more than 28 million Disney+ subscribers, so we can probably expect major additions to this figure when the company releases official figures again.

Additionally, Hasbro Inc. (Nasdaq: HAS) — aka Disney’s toy division — is reporting strong demand for Baby Yoda merchandise and toys. Items like the animatronic Baby Yoda aren’t even available in stores yet, but preorders have already sold out.

Right now, many investors are shying away from DIS due to park closures and motion picture revenue concerns. However, if you already hold DIS or want a bargain in the COVID-19 sell-off, snapping up the stock for anything under $100 would be a steal.

It figures: Within minutes of seeing the “DEAL REACHED” headlines, posts started to crop up across my social media feeds, all mentioning what so-and-so plans to do with their stimulus check. (Hint: It probably shouldn’t be used to further expand your toilet paper empire. Probably.)

Unless the feds are leading up to one big “check’s in the mail” punchline … hold your horses, buckaroo!

Seriously, we haven’t seen the deal’s terms … we haven’t even seen the Senate’s vote on it, for Pete’s sake. Let’s not cash our stimulus eggs before they hatch. (Do hatched stimulus eggs turn into stimulus eagles? Perish the thought…)

By now, you know my side: I still see economic storm clouds fast approaching, and Wall Street just left its umbrella at home following a $2 trillion stimulus forecast.

Now I understand what car insurance really does, they cover losses mainly out of pocket, reduce risk which covers costs of many, but I have trouble understanding why a company is needed to do this. Lets say on an average a person pays 150/month for coverage. Over time this money adds up. After one were to be in a collision, they are presumably covered, yet a deductible is payed, then they increase the payments.  I fail to see the purpose when they are just pretty much using your monthly payments to pay for these fines. Lets say you had a glass jar, and you put 200 a month in there, is the concept not the same? Even if you were to never get into an accident in your lifetime, do you see a dime of your money?  I just really want to know if there is a true reason, or purpose for insurance, because I fail to see past it as a scam.

Now I understand what car insurance really does, they cover losses mainly out of pocket, reduce risk which covers costs of many, but I have trouble understanding why a company is needed to do this. Lets say on an average a person pays 150/month for coverage. Over time this money adds up. After one were to be in a collision, they are presumably covered, yet a deductible is payed, then they increase the payments.  I fail to see the purpose when they are just pretty much using your monthly payments to pay for these fines. Lets say you had a glass jar, and you put 200 a month in there, is the concept not the same? Even if you were to never get into an accident in your lifetime, do you see a dime of your money?  I just really want to know if there is a true reason, or purpose for insurance, because I fail to see past it as a scam.

I insured myself with Provisional Marmalade while I was still learning, so I could drive my mum and dad's car as additional practice. Prov. Marm. have another part to their company, Young Marmalade for newly passed drivers, apparently giving you the best quotes, however I couldn't find anything under 3000! I am a 17 year old boy living in the Northeast of Scotland, one of the most common places for a collision in the whole of the UK. However, I am not in anyway a dangerous driver. My dad has been driving for 50 years and told me he feels very safe while driving with me as a learner, and I always stay within the speed limit, with the exception of if I don't realise I'm doing over the limit. My mum and dad have been saving some money for me for about 10 years, but it's only about 1300, and I don't have any more money apart from that. It's not going to be enough and I have really been let down by the insurance, because that Clio I saw was 600. The lowest quote I managed to find was 1634.70 a year from the Co-Operative Young Driver insurance, and with that you get a device fitted in your car to monitor how you drive, and if you drive within speed limits, and safely, I guess your monthly cost comes down a little bit. My question was, does anybody know of a REALLY good insurer for 17 year old boys who would: -take their price down for one of thse devices being fitted -offer decent discounts for Pass Plus or an Advanced Driving course?
