for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal

before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"

and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

Adult Swim's new Superman show is really good, and demonstrates (in the first couple minutes) a better understanding of Superman than any non-comics Superman media of the last 2 decades, by recognizing two small but essential features of Clark Kent's characterizarion:

A) He has to discover his powers via an act of altruism (specifically saving a life) and

B) He ALWAYS saves the cat stuck in a tree

I never wanted to get into tiktok because I knew that it would consume my attention span and utterly destroy me the second I allowed it a finger-hold into my life, but then I was like “well but I do like short videos, I feel like with the amount of youtube shorts I watch, I’m basically already on tiktok,” so I downloaded tiktok proper, instantly spent literally seven hours straight trapped in its vortex, stayed up too late, stayed up a bit later, passed out with a headache, and then woke up and kept watching tiktok to the point I was late for work. When I reported this to Cyrus, they watched me until I deleted it my phone. Cyrus was like “it’s kinda impressive that you always said this is what would happen if you were on TikTok and then it happened exactly as you said it would,” and I was like “yeah I’m the queen of knowing myself.” And in that vein: hey future Sarah. Trying to listen to podcast to calm down to sleep -> loud as fuck ad. Trying to check something quick from a youtube tutorial -> first gotta watch 2x 30 second unskippable ads. Trying to go to a website -> 2 popups and an ad video automatically start to play. Trying to listen to the radio while driving -> 7 minutes of uninterrupted ad time. Every single free app with those shitty game ads with the stupid annoying ass king. I’m tired !!! I never wanna buy anything ever again !!!!!!!
