You & Lily - regulus is so tired of being used by james, he gets his mark and only tells james after they have sex to really fuck james up. then years later he returns to james to apologize by promising to save harry and its open ended but like... also cannon compliant

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

all of them are happy endings tbh... while i like writing angst, i dont like writing unhappy endings or dead dove sort of things. so pretty much any of my fics will leave you happy

8. Do you get hate on fics?

nah not really. i think its cause im in happy rare pairs world. every now and then i get the off the wall comment like 'telling somone to come is SO overdone' and im like cool bye.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

all the smut. mostly vanilla-ish? i like to change up positions or what the sexual act is, but i dont cross into anything kink mostly cause i just write what i know/like/is comfortable.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

nope. probably never will either.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that i know of...

No! But im open to it with the right person

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

I dont really have one. It always changes for me. I like trying a new ship so i think the majority of my fics are different ships.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

honestly, Im starting to think Echoes wont be finished. i havent had the want to write it all year and i dont think the first parts are really my best writing. so part of me might even delete and rewrite it if i start getting the vibes to pursue it again.

16. What are your writing strengths?

characterization. i love fanfic because i can use the base of what we know and grow from the tiny details to make fully developed ones. its hard for me to read some fics that the characterization doesnt match what i know from the books without explanation. like its hard for me to see hermione as a sugar baby for money and loves being doted on because i dontt hink that matches her from the books but like if you can explain she gets her strength and independence from manipulating men then im like yes okay im on board.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

im awful with commas. everyone else loves them but i forget them so much grammarly is always yelling at me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

nah. i've been living in italy for a month now and the only words i know are ciao and allora LOL - if i want it i ask someone to translate for me

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter and twilight at the same time back in 2004 ish

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Short Dramione fic review (and some spoilers too)

It's been a while since I finished a long fic/multi-chapter (The Binding by curly_kay). I've only read oneshots so far, because I just could not seem to have the courage to commit to another long fic yet.

Here are the oneshots that I read this week:

Evigilatio by darkcivet - I didn't read the tags so I was confused as to why Draco was suddenly transforming. Anyways cute story, loved the smut. 😉

Blink (dmhgchallenge drabbles) by blackestfaery - SEVERELY underrated. Despite having very short stories, they're fun to read. Lighthearted, fluff.

In All Honesty by darkcivet - this was hilarious 😂 Lighthearted, fluff, fun! Dumbledore was in it yall! He's a shipper!

Exposé (Ginny's Version) by undercoverdrxco - a fun read, implied smut. Loved it! Ginny is our detective, and she KNOWS for sure Hermione's got a man because guess what, she HEARD them 😂 Her first guesses were wrong though!

Marked as Mine by LilithShade - set in an omegaverse. Draco is A, Hermione is O. Smut was hot. Plot twist was good. We got implied NottPott in it too.

One Pleasant Memory by Musyc - my god. So this was set when Draco just got sectum sempra'd by Harry. He's in the hospital wing. Hermione, for whatever reason rushed to see him. They weren't even tgt at the time. Things get spicy later. And guess what, we have a v!Draco here! Hermione isn't 😉 The story ends when the trio are in the Malfoy manor, and Draco has to identify them in front of Bellatrix.

Most of these recommendations were published just a few years from the release of the last Harry Potter movie, because I have a tab that's set to filter Dramione stories from 2011 to 2015, because, as I have mentioned in my previous posts, I wanted to read fics that were fresh from the completion of the movies.

Additionally , here are the DNFs of my night.

On the Nature of Daylight byt ikorous

--> I think this is one of the highly recommended set-in-Hogwarts fics.

I bookmarked this a while back after reading the summary, and I decided to try reading the first chapters of it. I read the tags, dom Draco/sub Hermione (I could totally do that), but then here comes the toxic Draco train (it just popped into my head I swear). I looked this up on Reddit again to see the comments about this, and most said that this had amazing smut. I was definitely in for that. However when people asked for fics similar to this, the damned Water by kissherdraco was recommended. We know how that ended for me (I hated it), but I decided to continue on with this because the structure of the paragraphs was cohesive anyway.

The first 2 chapters I did not really find Draco to be immediately toxic at all (vs Water by Tyla- I mean kissherdraco). He was horny. But because I was dreading the ending after seeing that this fic had an "angst" tag, and I did not see a "happy ending or HEA" tag, I contemplated on skipping to the end of the story to figure out if I could spare my time reading this one. I'm glad I did skip to the end. I checked the comments first, and they were all heartbroken. So then I went to reading the last chapter before the epilogue. I found out that the ending was before the Deathly Hollows, or somewhere during, because it ended with Dumbledore getting killed, and before the war, or the war was just brewing.

Draco left. He was a Death Eater.

I read the chapter preceding the final chapter. Okay there was smut. The dirty talk, jfc. Draco's nicknames for Hermione. I cringed. I just saw insta posts where people shared nicknames that were icky, and it all began with "little." Bestie this was full of it. "Little kitten" 🫠🤢

The dirty talking... It just felt so OOC. Especially Draco. I just could not.

Anyways, I don't have to have my heart broken. I'm satisfied with the contents I read from this fic, even if they were select chapters.

I heard this had a sequel? But author mentioned in the notes/comments that it's gonna be darker, so F that.

A Dish Best Served Cold by MistessLynn

--> Smut, yet again. Of course I'm in here for the smut, but Hermione here was so OOC I had to stop 😂🙈

Set in Hogwarts 8th year. The buildup was really good, until Hermione did the thang 😭💀 I had to skip the entire part. Well, I skipped to the end.

You might be wondering, why on earth do I want to read smut but stop when they do all the weird things? Well I cannot imagine them being so OOC. I don't like it 😭 It does not feel natural for them, the characters, especially the ones in my head. I want them to stick to the original characterization.

This is basically all I can post about tonight.

I would love to reread The Binding.

I'm thinking of making another post about a fic I highly recommend. Though it may need trigger warnings.

friday flash recs: april 29, 2022

Soldier, I can’t love you [ but I do ]

Part One

If this was how he was going to die .. no damn he was not happy about it.

He could feel it, the breaking skin shifting beneath his clothes, glued with the aftermath of rain to his skin, patched with mud and long dried stains of blood. He gave a short exhale, through the spiking pain of his shin with each footfall as his fingers seemed to mould into the creases of Potter’s jacket.

His arm was slung around his shoulders, and Theo wanted to feel something close to resentment as his eyes squinted through the dark of the night, their aching bodies colliding with each gruelling step along the old country road. Wanted too. But instead was stuck with the burden of relief in his own treacherous emotions.

“You’re not going to die Nott”

He jerked a little, catching the bubble of pain behind his gritted teeth as his foot stumbled and struck a loose stone on the ground, weeds crawling up against the road and threatening to claw at his dragging ankle. The makeshift bandage of cloth rubbed, and holy fuck the cut was not deep but it stung like hell.

Potter glanced at him, those eyes, his tanned skin shadowed by the darkness but those eyes, deep with a soldier's gaze, polished with something warm, and they rolled up towards the sky. Theo bristled, but didn’t ask how Potter knew. Maybe he’d said it allowed, his lips seemed to do that more frequently now, the consequence of a lack of human interaction he supposed.

“Oh yes, my saviour,” he bit back instead, and there’s more relief rolling down his back because at least he still had sarcasm. Except he was, he was being saved by Harry goddamn Potter and he didn’t entirely hate it.

Rather him than — well , just about anyone.

“How’d you find me?”

He asks before their silence could feel as threatening as the noise, and Potter shifted his hand, Theo could feel it curling tighter into the side of his jacket. For the first time since his figure had appeared before his hazy eyes twenty four hours ago he asked the question that had been rattling around his head.

“How’s your leg?”

Theo sighs through his nose, and scowls.

“Would it kill you to answer my questions?” He snapped, swinging his head against his aching muscles to glare into the shadows of his face. Potter had a stubble growing on his jawline.

They talked about that once.

‘Ginny hexed Michael , you should’ve seen the moustache’

‘I’m not sure I want that image, thank you’ his nose wrinkled automatically

‘Not a fan of facial hair?’ Harry was grinning, he could hear the smile in his voice, their bodies pressed up in the sheets on the floor. Theo turned his head, his vision skewered by messy locks, curling in their growth and shifted himself closer.

‘Not on Michael Corner.’ He muttered and they fell into a gentle silence.

‘I don’t think I’d like it,’ Harry mused after a moment, and they’re moving again, both of them, and then Theo is met with his face staring back.

‘I think you could pull it off.’

A lifetime ago, and Theo could hardly remember what got them to that moment. It felt easier then, and harder, like some paradox coiled around his chest until his ribs hurt, and that smile seemed the only way to loosen the rope.

He didn’t love him. He wasn’t sure he knew what love was. He wasn’t sure if he could give that love. It was a companionship that began with a cup of tea in a cafe and Draco Malfoy.

Potter had been alone, Theo had been intrigued, and Malfoy had been in a bad mood. Or maybe he’d been in a good one. Draco was hard to read like that, he liked to pretend but theo wasn’t sure even Draco knew what he was pretending to be. He never did a very good job. Potter hadn’t risen to it, the bait Malfoy was spitting on the table, they’d caught eyes past the blonde’s pointed ear and shared a resigned look that simply said ‘he’s at it again’.

They say it’s history from there, but Theo would disagree, the rest had not been history, the rest had been an abundance of messy talks and soft cotton blankets and spitting venom and trust. trust. where had that gone?

“-heo? your leg?”

As of his memories had been encased in the same haunting night, the world moulded back into reality and he coughed the bitterness from his tongue.

“It’s fine.”

Potter hummed, his muscles shifting and Theo felt himself lean into the opening a little more, the silent offering as they came to notice a bulging light up ahead that was gone as quickly as he blinked, as his weight transferred a little more to Potter's hands.

He’d grown. That annoyed Theo.

“I was passing through.”

Not really an answer, and Theo felt his teeth grind a little more, his jaw beginning to ache as Potter jerked them off the road towards the bushes.

“Where-?”

Instinctively he began to pull back. They’d been picked off one by one before, there’d been rumours and whispers like forest fires sparking their way through the stragglers, the lost that kept on running with nowhere to hide. He’d heard all about the once with false safety, lured out to safe houses to find themselves in the hands of the enemy.

He’d heard it from Creevey, who’d seen MacMillans body.

“Easy, Nott,” And it was the softest Potter had sounded as his body recoiled backwards, and he found he couldn't move anyway, a dizzying spin as his leg shook beneath his weight. “Here.”

The world swam for a moment, as Potter released him, and Theo felt his fingers twitch. A hand was clasped on his shoulder, loose enough for him to rip off if he must. He lifted his ankle from the found and found himself gripping the hand, needing that anchor. There was a shuffle, and then a ripple in front of his eyes and he watched the wards split open like a bulge, a tear in barbed wire nuts enough for them to slip through.

Potter didn’t release his wand, and Theo would have thought him mad if he had. He’d already proven his identity, it were to be believed. There were a thousand reasons not to trust this, and yet he couldn’t think of a single one.

So he heaved a breath and stumbled through the wards, hoping he wasn’t about to be murdered. He’d take dying roadside with Potter over that.

Stretched out before him came gravel, and Theo recognised it must have been an old muggle pub and car park, turned into a base. It looked, in a strange sort of way, rather comforting. Nothing like to leaky cauldron, for one, it was still standing. It was rickety, like some old medieval tavern, his eyes scanned the shapes of the wood and the old words etched in. There were lights, he wondered if that were a stupid idea, but the lanterns were warm and the windows alight was more inviting than anything had been the past few years.

They enjoyed history, himself and Blaise, not when Binns was teaching but their own history lessons. They’d grab library books and disappear to a corner or back up to their dorm. It began out of obligation to have high grades in everything, and then it became something they found interesting .. even, on occasion, the muggle stuff.

Potter's arm was back around his waist, and they made their way across the gravel to the door. There was a knock, and Theo gripped the wall beside them as Potter leaned closer , loosening his grip to murmur something through the door.

There were more secure ways to check. Theo wondered if they were being reckless on purpose.

Weasley was there leaning in the doorway with that infuriating smirk looking far too relaxed and a raised eyebrow.

“They buggered you well and good then.”

“You’re as subtle as ever.” He drawled back, and Weasleys smirk widens a little more, there’s a glint in his eye, something ravenous and Theo gets it. They all do. It’s finding those snippets of normality, those arguments they once hated, they come to crave - but it’s too dangerous to truly argue, it means losing sense and they couldn’t afford that.

Potter shifted impatiently, and shot a pointed look at the youngest Weasley male — no , no the youngest Weasley now. It was in the lines on his face, drawn and scarred. He’d heard about her death some time ago. Something passed between them silently, and the red head stepped back to let them through.

Theo would be lying if he said there wasn’t a small pang of jealousy there.

They used to do that across the hall, or the classroom , sometimes in the corridors. Hogwarts was so long ago , he wasn’t even sure it was still standing.

Theo hobbled over the step, and there’s something washing over his face. More wards. The familiar ones, numerous occasions, the last ditch attempt to keep the enemy out of it were the case. And nothing happens.

He lets out a breath he’s not aware he’d held and he grunted, as Potter dislodged him into a chair. It’s still laid out like a pub, and there are figures scattered across the room, few and far and many pressed as far away from the others as possible. There’s a fire going in the corner, the fireplace seemed the only magnificent thing about it, and yet Theo finds his eyes drawn up to the bar.

Dean Thomas. He’s sat behind the counter drying a glass. It something so normal, intimate even, as if he had always been there and that there was not a war raging over their heads.

But Thomas’s eyes are red, and he wonders if Finnegan is alive. Last he heard, a quidditch stadium up north had been blown to pieces, nobody knew whose side did it. The dead had yet to be collected and no names given, it wasn’t safe.

“What’s the latest?”

That draws Theo’s attention, their bodies half caught in the light, half silhouetted by the dark, maybe if he were not as exposed as them, he would’ve have found those grim expressions intimidating.

“Three of ours went down this morning. No word from Carlisle.”

Something expanded in his chest for a moment, like this gallon of hope and the expansive gallows of the sea infused to the flesh of his lungs.

There were mostly rumours of bases here and there. But if they had Carlisle ..

He sucked in a breath and coughed, with a sharp groan that slipped past his gritted teeth as he misguided his footing and smacked his leg against the table.

A hand gripped his shoulder, and his eyes flickered open from the swallowing pools of darkness that threatened to succumb to his body. Harry stared down at him, the concern billowing in his eyes were warm, though disconcerting with the shadows still tattered across his face and stiff with a war hardened stone.

Theo assumed he found what he was looking for as his eyes finished their scrutiny of his face and jerked up to Weasley once more.

Again, those silent eyes and he couldn’t decipher it. He missed friendship.

hiiii first of all THANK YOU so so much for your work (How to Win Friends is like the best story i've ever read, and as a fellow author (albeit in russian but still) i'm so fucking amazed and can't wait to immerse myself in your original work). also thank you for nottpott, i never knew i needed it, but this particular relationship in your story is everything i love the most in life. and in my stories. just, this acceptance and not asking for more than the other could ever be capable of. 1/2

so again, thanks!! have an unrelated though; after reading your fics i went here to go through your hp-related tags (because i'm obsessive like that...). and accidentally stumbled upon your answer along the lines of 'the weasley twins canonically had the most chemistry with harry/were at their best interacting with harry' and i just, i've had Thoughts about it but never anyone to talk about it to or with. so would you mind talking a bit more about twins&harry and their dynamic? maybe?

oh oh okay and i forgot, in regards to How To Win, thank you specifically for you characters! like, the way you managed the ensemble cast with all the relationships and relations and their pasts and like, all that huge web of connections and friendships and characterizations. the BEST

hi, thanks so much for this! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story and very grateful to you for reading. I only vaguely remember the response you mention... I don't think that's an exact quote (if you find it again send it to me lol I really have only the haziest memory of ever saying it) but yeah, I think the relationship between harry and the twins was very interesting. I mean he is their financial backing, so there's that haha. I'm not really in the business of mucking around in joanne's world anymore given all the joanneing she's been doing so I don't know what I'd say beyond that, but I'm glad you find it interesting!

I am very glad you enjoyed the story though, because it's definitely one of my favorites. I always think fondly of it, and basile, and of course armand and the king. thanks so much for reading!

The foley of spring [Firenze/Whomping Willow; 1.3k]

Alright moving on to my current list of wips… For the sake of brevity I’m only going to write about the pieces I’m actively working on:

(I have two anon fics that I can’t talk about, but you should see those between now and in the next two months.)

Lord Neville gets fuuuuucked fic - (wc: 1021) Yeah the premise came from an idea of Courtesan!Neville, but I played with it a fair bit and now it’s evolved into a whole boys gone wild in Regency England lmfao. Oops. Neville just wants to get spoiled okay? Like. Let the boy live.

Working title: LA Devotee - (wc11.7k + a bajillion words in dms with my alpha/beta reader) Why yes, I did in fact get inspired by Brendon Urie. Again. Why do you ask? That being said, this is really just about a desperate Draco, stuck in a war he cannot win, minutes away from being executed by Voldemort, and decides it would be a great idea to summon Demon!Harry. There’s a lot of intricacies with this, and a lot of planning and hashing out semantics because it’s an au to an extent. There’s some similarities to what happens in the main stories but also some big changes and twists. It’s a whole new world folx.

Move me, Baby - (wc: 1.6k) This is an extremely belated birthday gift for a friend. It’s got Blaise/Ginny, Blaise/Mirror, Fleur/Ginny, possibly Blaise/Fleur, and definitely Blaise/Fleur/Ginny. It’s porn meets Ginny having an existential crisis about her sexuality - AND I DON’T MEAN IN TERMS OF LABELS. I literally mean, her sex drive. It’s an exploration of women and sex, how often women are expected to behave a certain way, even if that’s not always the way they feel. Ginny understands that her mother wants her to get married and have kids, but honestly? Ginny would much rather explore these budding new feelings, and take control of her own pleasure.

Wolfstarbuck Fight club. - Honestly I wrote a few ideas down for this. I still don’t know what this is and I might just end up leaving it for a bit and coming back to it when it makes a bit more sense in my head lmfao.

My dueling assassins/hitmen drarry trilogy - honestly I’m not gonna say much more than that. I’m hoping that Drarry big bang happens next year because I’d really like to write this for that.

And finally...the thing I’m most excited to share with you guys. FROM THE WRITERS WHO BROUGHT YOU: Have yourself a Kinky little Christmas, and Catching the Niffler… @keyflight790 and I are back on our usual shit of writing down smut and feels and pretending like we don’t absolutely adore it. (Okay who am I kidding, neither of us pretend that.) Seriously. We love writing together, and we think we do well enough at it. This time however, we are bringing you the story of Theo and Harry, in a modern University Au. Without giving too much away… What happens when you accidentally wank on a voice chat with your best friend? What happens when he starts doing it too? (Wc: around 2k)

@olivieblake this might be too long for an ask, so here’s a text post.

1- Happy anniversary !!! Love!! Relationships !!! I don’t know how it works but it seems to be working for you and Mr. Blake so congratulations !!!

2- Nobility: Oh my god, it’s getting hard to breathe. This story is so good but it’s so stressful! Everyone is always risking everything. These people have no regard for their own safety. I want to sit them down and explain to them that NOT DYING WOULD ALSO BE A GOOD IDEA, A GOOD LIFEGOAL. That’d do wonders for my heart.

Harry is an idiot, I’m kinda mad at him. (but I don’t want him to suffer/feel betrayed :/)

I wanna hug Pansy, hold her tight and brush her hair and tell her she’s gonna be okay. Because she’s gonna be okay, right? Yes, she is. I love her. I really want her to be happy.

Hermione is fascinating. I love how you use her ruthlessness. I love how powerful she is and still somewhat insecure. I love her dynamics with Pansy and now that they have a deal, I can’t wait to see more of it. God, I love them both so much.

Also, the theater format? Genius. Amazing. Beautiful.

3- How To Win: Kingsley and his “Too soon”? Perfect.

Theo is the love of my life. Well, actually NottPott as an item is the love of my life. They’re so good for each other. #NottPottTrashForever and all that. But Theo? Theo is my favourite. I would give my metaphorical life for him. Please never stop writing Theo.

PANSY AND PERCY !! Girl, it’s making me feel things. The double-entendres are too much for me and the state of my life.(Goes with the “not enough butts” in my weird half-asleep ask from last night). I don’t know if I should be hating you or thanking you for that.

And finally, Draco and Hermione, my loves. “Definitely not have sex” and “we held it” are peak Draco, he’s amazing. And this cliffhanger !!!!!!! Between Nobility and H2WY, you’re spoiling us. Or mocking us, I don’t know.

4- Marked (and N&N): So I finished my rereading today. And I can see why you think Nocturnes is better. I absolutely love Clean and Marked, they’re emotionally very potent. Hermione’s love for Draco is terrifying and heart-breaking and so, so beautiful. This ending, God, they way they half-remember, can’t grasp the memories, the way they finally come together. The red thread of fate !!! So, yeah, it’s a wonderful story but you’ve grown so much between Marked and Nocturnes. Your writing is ten times more poetic, the plot is clearly more developped and the use of other characters is so well-thought. (Thank God for the way you write Pansy now for instance.) But you could already see traces of all of this in This World or any Other: the way you portray Hermione, the ruthlessness I was talking about earlier, the “tell me a story”, Hermione hearing/seeing Draco, her friendship with Theo and so many details I can’t remember now. I’m not saying you just expanded on Marked because you obviously didn’t, they are two very different stories. But it feels like the best features of Clean/Marked got a chance to become even more beautiful, deeper maybe? Like, Clean feels like the basis for the rest of your stories, the groundwork in a sense? You’re able to pick some elements of it and make them grow.

I still can’t believe it was your first fic and it wasn’t that long ago. Like, can you believe it when you think about it? Evrything you’ve done in such a short amount of time. Some of them are basically publishable novels. All of them could be turned into movies.

Anyways, this was definitely too long for an ask, wise choice writing a textpost Lucy. So smart. I’m gonna stop now. I’m keeping the Draught of Living Dead one for later so expect to hear from me quite soon, if you’re not tired of reading my ramblings!
