Dank Farrik Drabble #49
Another drabble to celebrate the conclusion of The Mandalorian’s third season! I rolled Pog soup/Bored this time, and this made me want to try the recipe. Let me know if you have and if it was successful! Here are the rules for the challenge if you want to participate.
************
“You haven’t visited Mandalore for months, you left without saying goodbye and now you’re finally using your comm station to ask me how to cook pog soup?”
It did sound a bit strange when she said it like that, but at least Bo-Katan didn’t look too cross. Well, her blue image didn’t at least. It had been a relief to learn that Gideon had been the one blocking all communications from leaving the planet, but it didn’t mean Din had suddenly become that much more sociable. And he thought Bo already knew he didn’t do goodbyes. It wasn’t as if he’d completely disappeared from everyone’s radar. He had reached out to the Armorer every once in a while to see if his tribe needed anything, but they seemed all set for now.
“I figured you’d be busy,” Din reasoned, Grogu cooing happily when Bo finally noticed his frantic waves and replied with one of her own.
“But not busy enough to share family recipes?” she remarked with an arched eyebrow. There was a smile there, Din thought. He should update his station to a better one, the quality of the image made it hard to tell for sure.
“Grogu’s been asking for it,” he attempted.
“Your son is talking?”
“You’re the one who said I should learn more about Mandalore’s traditions, and I recall it tasted great.”
This was one more lie, he remembered nothing from that soup. In his defense, he’d been recovering from poisoning at the time. And a concussion.
“Ah bah,” the boy finally concurred with a nod, helping his case.
“Are you really so bored that you’ve taken up cooking?” Bo wondered. “I could definitely put you to work here, there’s a lot – ”
“We’re not bored,” Din immediately said. “We’ve been travelling a lot, and following up on some leads from the New Republic.”
This, on the other hand, wasn’t a lie. Din had been doing exactly what he said he would – taking his apprentice on his journeys and working on a case by case basis for Carson as a contractor, which actually paid very well. They had free time, yes. But they were not bored. What did that word even mean? Their days were full enough when they spent them on Nevarro.
So what if they’d both taken a liking to naps under the sun and leisurely evening walks in town? That was allowed. And what if he’d decided to put his newly earned credits to good use to try out some of the fresh ingredients they sold at the market? He’d never had such a big kitchen before, and barely knew what most of the appliances were for, but the boy deserved nourishing meals. And anything they cooked tasted infinitely better than ration bars – which wasn’t a difficult feat – even when he messed up a bit.
“Fine,” Bo sighed, but Din could tell she didn’t believe him for a second. “I’ll tell you if you promise to visit soon.”
“Fine,” Din agreed.

My reviews of free art apps I'm testing on my phone:
NOTE: These are based on my preferences and opinions. I don't use a lot of apps and tend to stick to just 1. Please do not use this as a basis for whether or not you yourself should get the apps, it is best if you test them out yourself as they may be beneficial or even different for you and your set up.
Medibang Paint: 8/10 (not uninstalling, keeping for the files)
it was a 10/10 but then they updated and now it's not as great. lost another point when it started bugging out. Otherwise the app is extremely good. zooming, the image is still crisp, the strokes may be pixels, but I don't mind it. the UI is very clean and clear. you can see and understand the icons for each button and tool, easy access to everything you need + you are able to customize the brush settings and get some fun and unique textures out of it. it's super user and beginner friendly without the need for a "tutorial" to hold your hand in figuring out what things do and what they are.
I would gladly accept suggestions for free drawing apps similar to Medibang. or any cheap app that may cost money, because if Medibang refuses to behave, I may need to make a decision that I really would rather not make.
Ibis Paint X: 1/10
confusing UI. doesn't matter the DPI, you zoom in and every brush stroke is extremely blurry for some reason and that really messes with my eyes. extremely tedious to figure out, you would need to spend an extensive amount of time trying to find everything to understand the app. this app is like the opposite of Medibang. Even with the tutorial holding your hand to figure out what is what and where, it is still extremely confusing and unclear.
Autodesk Sketchbook: 2/10 (used to use you on kindle)
nothing like how it was on my kindle. on an older phone of mine it lagged so bad and had a different type of overall UI setup going for it, but I was able to at least draw something on that one despite the ungodly lag. this one? just as bad and unclear as Ibis Paint X, except the tools and settings are not scattered on the screen. you have to click an unclear button to find the brushes to change them and then another unclear button to customize them. the quality of the strokes are just about the same as Ibis Paint X in that they are extremely blurry.
Infinite Painter: 3/10
the UI is still sparse. a tutorial is shown telling you what is what and overall less tools visible than the previous 2 apps, this is unfortunate. However, the brushes are not blurry, but are pixelated like Medibang. a slight odd latency when making a stroke, not something I'm fond of, personally, but the selection of brushes aren't too bad, I suppose. Not for me tho. got distracted playing with the brushes and textures, but I don't think I'll be drawing anything. I would say if you're not put off by things here, you could probably get used to this and enjoy it. definitely better than the others listed besides Medibang.
the brush collage:
Tumblr media
Clip Studio Paint: 1/10
first time trying this one out. took the longest to install. it takes a weirdly long time to start up?? definitely not a great first impression here. too clicky and sticky with the rotation, tedious to navigate to do anything. wow this app is not great. it looks horrible with the UI, too. clean screens are not good. it's off-putting. also it is by default recording me draw??? the heck? seems to be only 1 brush option, little to no actual customization of the brush. no clue where the layers were if there were any at all. overall?
Tumblr media
Sketchbook Lite: 0/10
immediate ads. forces you into an ad that says 'start free trial then pay $14.99 a month uwu' instant hate. stroke quality is blurred, UI is WAY too empty. I like the dark mode, but YIKES. you exit out of the app for a sec and then back in and you are smacked in the face with the same invasive ads as you started out with. you are NOT getting my money that I do not even have to begin with. instant uninstall.

Cultivating Knowledge - Best Digital Magazines for Agriculture Enthusiasts
Tumblr media
Digital magazines, also referred to as online magazines, are periodicals designed specifically for viewing on digital devices like laptops, tablets, and smartphones. These publications aim to replicate the experience of reading a traditional print magazine while incorporating the advantages of digital technology.
The accessibility of digital magazines is one of their main benefits. As long as a reader has an internet connection, they can access them from anywhere in the world. Publishers can now more easily reach a global audience, and readers can now access content that they might not have otherwise been able to. Due to lower production and distribution costs, digital magazines are frequently more affordable than print magazines.
Benefits of Digital Magazines:
1. Content is easily accessible
The main reason why digital magazines are preferred is that we spend a lot of time online. Our reading habits involve extensive use of online information and are not restricted by time of day. We can more easily save, share, create communities, and have online discussions thanks to digital publications.
2. Immediate Access
Without a doubt, purchasing and reading digital magazines is a quick and simple process. One can instantly purchase the digital edition of his choice while lounging in the comfort of his home. It is available 24/7 and can be read while traveling, taking a lunch break, or waiting at a coffee shop. Instead of carrying a stack of books, one can access information instantly at his fingertips.
3. Lightweight and handy
Digital magazines are portable and accessible whenever it is most convenient for the user. Instead of carrying multiple printed magazines, a reader can carry multiple issues of digital magazines at once.
4. Worldwide Presence
A digital magazine will be accessible to everyone once it is published. A writer can share his thoughts and story with a global audience. Thus, geographic boundaries are no longer an obstacle.
Additionally, readers can easily share digital magazines with their friends and family, expanding the audience for the publication.
5. Interactivity
Digital magazines offer a better user experience because they are more interactive than printed versions. One can pique users' interest by displaying captivating 360-degree views, pop-ups, weblinks, and many other things in addition to extremely engaging images, audio, and video. An author can further enhance user engagement by making two-way communication possible using push notifications and feedback forms.
6. Economical
The production and distribution of agriculture digital magazines are much more affordable when compared to the processes used for printed magazines. There are no extra costs associated with printing, binding, or delivery. And yes, you are correct; no losses result from unsold copies.
7. Analyses
Authors who use digital analytics services can better understand user behavior and usage patterns. It is simple to monitor who is visiting the pages, reading the content, liking or disliking them, and sharing them on social media. For conventionally printed magazines, it is simply not possible to obtain this level of usage analytics.
8. Resilience
A digital publication has an infinite lifespan, so it keeps working even after years of use. But the quality of printed magazines gets worse every year. There is also a chance that the print will become lighter, the paper quality will decline, and there will be other similar problems.
9. Making Money
Authors can promote their own services or goods or sell a variety of strategically placed ad spaces. They can more effectively target their audience by using digital features, which will improve conversion rates and boost sales.
10. Easily Updatable
It is a nightmare to edit text for a print publication. Nothing can be changed after the copies have been printed. The only option in that situation is to print an entirely new edition. However, editing a digital magazine is incredibly simple. The text can be easily edited while maintaining the layout and page count. So, a few updates will make a magazine current.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 vs. AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
Many users have started to experience the power difference between Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 vs. AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT's FPS difference in games and its quality in Image quality have started to appear on many Benchmark sites. Now that GPU costs are resting and ideally we'll just see more open illustrations cards pushing ahead (and crossing fingers), how about we investigate the fight between the GeForce RTX 3070 and Radeon RX 6700 XT. The RTX 3070 was delivered in October 2020 at a MSRP of $500, which obviously we never truly saw. After five months AMD hit back with the 6700 XT at $480, which was another paper MSRP that never arrived at most imminent purchasers. The fact is however, these two GPUs are intended to be immediate contenders, however current estimating is better towards the 6700 XT as interest for Nvidia GPUs is typically higher.
Tumblr media
As of composing, it's feasible to buy a Radeon 6700 XT for just $600, however most models are evaluated somewhere in the range of $700 and $800. That is still above and beyond MSRP, yet estimating has descended significantly as of late. Essentially, just three months prior the most reduced cost on a RTX 3070 was $1,100 and presently they are nearer to $900, with a Gigabyte model selling for just $850. That implies the 3070 is evaluated ~40% higher than the 6700 XT this moment, which is clearly a huge markup, regardless of whether the GeForce GPU was ~10% quicker last time we looked at them quite a while back in a 45 game benchmark. A ton has changed from that point forward, we've seen various driver refreshes from the two camps, alongside huge game updates and new deliveries like Forza Horizon 5, God of War, Dying Light 2, Warhammer III, Halo Infinite, Rainbow Six Extraction, and the rundown goes on. We're likewise trying with Resizable Bar empowered for these head to heads, so it will be fascinating to perceive the amount of a distinction this multitude of changes make.
Tumblr media
For testing we're utilizing a Ryzen 9 5950X test framework with 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 double position, double channel memory. Both GPUs were tried at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K across 50 games, utilizing Windows 11. The driver utilized were Radeon Adrenalin 22.2.3 and GeForce Game Ready Driver 511.79. We should now investigate a portion of the outcome features of around twelve of games and afterward we'll show you how these two GPUs contrast head-with head across every one of the 50 games tried in a solitary chart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0yo2Sc-DyI&ab_channel=HardwareUnboxed
50 Game Head-to-Head
In view of the initial dozen or so games we just checked out, the RTX 3070 appears to be well in front of the 6700 XT aside from Far Cry 6. The GeForce has likewise shown the most benefit at 4K, yet before we reach any determinations, we should investigate the information across every one of the 50 games tried… Beginning with the 1080p information we find that the RTX 3070 was 11% quicker by and large, giving predominant execution in most of the games tried. The 3070 was more slow by an edge more prominent than 5% in only two of the games tried: Doom Eternal and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Tumblr media
In the mean time, it was 5% quicker or more in 34 of the 50 games tried, importance there were only 14 games where the edge was under 5% in one or the other bearing. The huge RTX wins came in Metro Exodus EE, War Thunder, Resident Evil Village, Vermintide 2, PUBG, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Control, Serious Sam 4, Warhammer III, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Moving to 1440p, the edge expansions in support of Nvidia, so presently the RTX 3070 is 13% quicker overall. That is a slight increment over the 45 game test from a year prior. If you somehow managed to eliminate the two best games for Nvidia (Metro and PUG), the RTX 3070 was as yet 12% quicker by and large, and that is the magnificence of testing such an outrageous scope of games. The RTX 3070 is 19% quicker on normal at 4K. That is a major presentation advantage for those focusing on this goal. The main expected issue for the RTX 3070 here is VRAM utilization, which was plainly an issue in Far Cry 6. Debilitating the HD surface pack settles it, however we feel impairing great surfaces while burning through $500+ on a GPU for that superior experience, isn't something most will need to do. Long ways to the side, for by far most of games accessible today, the RTX 3070 offers a much better 4K gaming experience.

Best Gaming Consoles in the Market
Content:
Ever since the first game console was released roughly 50 years ago, several companies have jumped in the bandwagon to create their own. Emerging tech giants such as Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have designed their products to rival each other, selling millions of dollars globally as these gather international attention among youths and adults alike. Despite catering to different audiences, comparisons between the products of these tech giants are unavoidable. And as of now, their latest releases have touched the taste of varied consumers.
A considerable amount of time has already passed to carefully assess the pros and cons of available gaming consoles in the market. After years spent on playing each system, players decided that PlayStation 4 Pro is the best gaming console to this date. Some reasons why people choose it are capable hardware, high-fidelity games, an incredible number of exclusives. However, it is hard to neglect other competing products, knowing that they possess distinct fortes, such as Xbox One X’s powerful hardware and Nintendo Switch’s portability.
It is a fact that preferences among individuals will vary. Nevertheless, the constant clash between these tech giants will also continue to live on as consumers crave for variability. However, for those who are seeking assistance in deciding, here are some specific reasons to pick either of the three contending gaming systems.
What is the best gaming console? Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro
Why should you pick this? PS4 Pro is the upgraded version of the most popular console ever, PS4. It also has the most considerable number of high-fidelity games.
Who is this for? PS4 Pro caters people of all ages with its vast array of games.
 Why choose PlayStation 4 Pro?
PS4 Pro is a plug-and-play gaming platform with the exclusive game library from its predecessor, PS4. It possesses 4K, HDR 10 compatibility for the more vibrant gaming experience.
Though a lot of popular franchises are available on both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the former receive more exclusive games each year. Moreover, PS4 has private access to a small number of lesser-known indie games that everyone enjoys, such as Japanese role-playing games like Persona 5and Final Fantasy XIV, that the Xbox One doesn’t have.
With the capability to play its predecessor’s fantastic game titles, the PS4 Pro makes them look as breathtaking as possible with its 4K, HDR 10 compatibility upgrade. In comparison, the Xbox One X is technically more powerful in this aspect. However, missing the must-have exclusives making the purchase worth it is a great disappointment.
Honestly, if one were to browse the game titles for Xbox One X, there is just not as much unique content to play with it. As a result, this makes PS4 Pro a better choice. This inconvenience is especially real, knowing that the console is getting major generation-defining exclusives like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Persona 5 Royal, and The Last of Us Part II.
What is the best gaming console for 4K: Microsoft’s Xbox One X
Why should you pick this? Xbox One X brags its 4K Blu-ray player and HDR compatibility that no other console can powerfully execute. Both games and high-resolution videos are satisfying and stunning to watch.
Who is this for? Xbox One X serves people who want to play their favorite games and watch their favorite movies at the highest possible image quality.
 Why choose Xbox One X?
Sony always leads its competitors by releasing its console upgrades first. However, this brings drawbacks as competitors like Microsoft can take it slowly to release its more refined and better hardware to customers. This lead results in Xbox One X offering the best 4K Blu-ray and HDR video playback as of the moment, with visual enhancements to its game catalog. When Microsoft told the public that Xbox One X is the most compelling home gaming console in its generation, Microsoft was not exaggerating as footage of gaming fans barged on to purchase on its release date. However, Xbox One X is not getting a VR update, which may disappoint some fans.
Though limited with its game titles, the Xbox One X has proven it is far more superior than its near competitor PS4 Pro. Utilizing its extra horsepower to good use, the Xbox One X indiscriminately improves visuals of all the games in its catalog. As it aims to increase its exclusive titles, Microsoft doubles its investment in first-party studios like Obsidian Entertainment and Ninja Theory. New first-party games like Halo Infinite and Hellblade 2 are some recent games it has.
What is the best portable game console? Nintendo’s Switch
Why should you pick this? Switch is a whole new portable console gaming experience with its TV-output support. It has unmatched first-party support from Nintendo’s partners.
Who is this for? Switch is for everyone who loves portable gaming consoles.
 Why choose Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo had changed its game plan when it released the first version of Switch a few years ago. Its sidestep has altered the console arms race by introducing the hybrid console no other company has risked to do. Changing not how you use it but where, Switch offers a dual experience. Wielding a usual portable handheld play, it boasts the ability of a plug-and-play TV display like PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
While the handheld device does not quite have the oomph factor to play the latest 4K, 60 frames-per-second releases for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, Switch flaunts its virtual reality Labo kit. With fancy VR-support, it catches more considerable attention to younger players, letting them enjoy the VR world. For those gamers who miss the Wii Fit days, a selection of great workout titles such as Ring Fit Adventure, an RPG that doubles as an excellent time for burning calories, are available.
Hence, the three gaming systems have unique specs of their own. The choice to decide for yourself lies within you, as this short review serves only as a guideline. Whatever console you choose will always be worth the while.

Cloud Computing is Changing the Business Success
Cloud Computing is Changing the Business Success
Hey! I left that file on my computer. I will have to send it to you when I get back to the office. Nowadays it sounds weird. Everything we do is on the cloud. Our favourite music and movies are streamed online. Even the notes we keep on our phones, most of which are about as important as a grocery list, are backed up and accessible on the cloud from anywhere.
Cloud computing has fundamentally changed the way we work and communicate.
In the business world, this improved level of communication has led to all sorts of new expectations—good and bad.
Cloud Computing – Introduction:
Cloud computing is one of the newest technological developments to shake up the business world. As more companies migrate their data and applications to the cloud, the business itself changes dramatically. Cloud computing has become ubiquitous. Everyday interactions and transactions that take advantage of the Internet are likely operating in a cloud environment, including social media, banking, corresponding with co-workers and clients, and other day-to-day functions. Cloud computing is a system which networks devices and stores the data on those devices in a centralised location off-site. The cloud is also a common repository for the collection and analysis of new data, and the place where an increasing number of artificial intelligence operations, like image and speech recognition, are conducted.
How Cloud Computing changing Business Success:
On the cloud, everything is more efficient: It’s green. Cloud computing reduces the need for physical infrastructure and scales to provide efficient use of energy based on real-time requirements. When a major disruption to the network occurs, companies that have moved their systems to the cloud may have an easier time recovering. In-house disruptions can be expensive and time-consuming to fix, but cloud providers can provide disaster recovery services.
Scalability on a Corporate Level: The cloud is infinitely scalable, which is essential for the changing data storage needs of the corporate environment. Before the cloud, businesses had to waste time and money upgrading servers and expanding their storage needs. But, with cloud computing, increasing and decreasing storage needs is as easy as contacting the cloud service provider. And, the best part is, the change in data storage is oftentimes instantaneous. Cloud computing makes scalability much easier compared to conventional methods. For instance, like every corporation, your company might need to scale its IT environment as your business climbs the evolutionary ladder. To cope up with this, you may need to have updated apps and software.
Cloud platforms will soon have to compete with the blockchain: There is a new technology in town. If you haven’t heard, blockchain is very quickly disrupting every possible industry. This includes everything from finance to big pharma to the cloud. Right now, the cloud industry is dominated by the big three: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Because these three massive companies own so much of the space, these centralized companies are the ones setting the prices. What blockchain companies like Akash are doing is leveraging the blockchain to turn the cloud industry into an open marketplace. Price is determined by supply and demand for available computing power.
Cloud costs keep your overhead lean: Lower Operating Costs. Cloud computing saves the corporate world money on two fronts: IT staffing and equipment costs. Because cloud service providers take care of all the maintenance and system updates, it means large businesses can cut their IT budgets in half. Cloud computing services do cost money, but it’s a fraction of the cost of onsite IT services. Likewise, because the cloud’s servers and other related equipment are housed offsite, the corporate world can save money by avoiding expensive equipment upgrades and upkeep.
Computers will become invisible: When people use search engines, they usually don’t realize they are accessing billion-dollar computer networks. As the power of the cloud spreads, one effect will be to make software and computing more invisible, says Dan Reed, vice president of Microsoft’s Extreme Computing Group. Your interaction with computers will be more hands-free—such as the recent introduction of the Kinect, which allows gamers to eschew controllers and just use gestures and movements that are interpreted by a 3-D camera and infrared detection system. Expect to see more of this type of computer intuition because of the cloud. “You will be able to walk in a room and there could be hundreds of sensors in it that could respond,” Reed says.
If everything is on the cloud, that means more security is required: When data is in the cloud, a breach of the cloud provider’s security compromises the company’s data, and a malfunction of cloud software can result in the loss of data that the company needs. To protect against these problems, companies often invest in preventative measures, such as dataprotection.com online backup. Although storing a massive amount of sensitive data offsite may sound like a security risk, the cloud is one of the most secure forms of data storage available. Because information is stored in the cloud and not the device itself, business data is always secure and accessible, even in the event of theft.
When it lives in the cloud, work never stops: A cloud computing solution gives clients access to data and applications anywhere and anytime they need. Customers can access the system without compromising functionality and efficiency.  Another benefit of using a quality cloud computing solution is that it allows your employees more flexibility in their work practices. This summer, two events in Star Wars comics became my primary source of recreation - Hope Dies, in the main, and The Catastrophe Con, in Aphra. Now that both have concluded, summer feels well and truly over, and I’m compelled to look back at why these comics played such a significant role in keeping me palliated and docile within the machine entertained.
There’s something about experiencing a comic live, when there’s a wait between issues, when the covers and solicits are both the doorway to the latest developments and to future speculations (covers don’t have the same impact in a trade paperback), when the imagination still has the time and space to imagine what sort of composition it is in which one finds oneself. While the experience is similar to reading an updating WIP or fan-comic, it also could not be more different. There are strict temporal and material boundaries, for one: fixed update schedules, page budgets, studio-set limits on what characters can be used in what way. Issues tend to be structured to do one thing you expect while introducing some new thing to keep the appetite whetted for the next issue - around cliffhangers, I guess, if the cliffhangers are also conceived of as major and minor twists (huge generalization, please take all of this with a grain of salt, I’m basically speculating aloud here and will probably regret it greatly after posting). All of this affects what one is given to read and how one reads it.
[The comparison to fanfic is deeply flawed, since comics are ultimately mass-produced consumables whereas fanfic is ... the product of consumption plus some measure of active interpretation? Idk, I vacillate on whether fanfic is not itself just a more involved way of keeping its readers and writers permanent consumers or whether it does have the potential to open a sort of space for critical thought and action regarding ourselves and society - I used to think the latter, now am increasingly unconvinced.]
Anyway, keeping in mind that comics are products of the culture industry and designed to be just unsatisfying enough that you want to consume the next issue and the next and the next and ... something that does possibly fragment them a little is the collaborative process. Franchise novels are by their very nature interpretations of a text (here: Star Wars), interpretations stamped with the mark of authenticity after having been subjected to various controls, but they present the façade of coming from one author (one authority). Franchise comics are also canon-stamped interpretations of a text, but an additional interpretative process is reflected in every panel, since these comics tend to be written, pencilled, inked, and then colored by completely different people. (If you look at the Director’s Cut of the original Darth Vader #1, you can compare Gillen’s script to Larroca’s panels and see something of that communication process.) Each panel is the witness to a set of interpretative decisions, and I think that contributes to my vast preference for comics over novels in a franchise setting: they model active interpretation - or is it a kind of interpretative lack, a kind of gap between word and image? - even before the reader gets to them. The kinds of discussions we’ve been able to have here around Darth Vader especially would speak for the “gap” as a powerful incentive to thought - the gap between issues, the gap between word and image, the gap created by a medium that does not have the space or desire to hand-hold, to narrate every step from a to b, that uses image to imply those steps, thus creating new gaps for interpretative energy to fill, etc.
Enough pretentious rambling. Let’s be real, I was sucked in very obviously for purely consumerist reasons - Vader was going to be in both, of course yours truly was going to buy all the comics. That I also liked these two events because the creative teams (Gillen and Larroca, Spurrier and Walker, to name only the authors and pencillers, respectively) tend to produce interesting tensions on a page was more of a bonus, probably, than anything else.
Spoilers from here on out.
It was fun to imagine where these comics could go while they still had room to follow my Id. I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process - what assumptions I tend to make, my severe limits and biases as a reader, why I care so damned much about issues that promise meetings between a dark father archetype and some daughter archetype (I’ll say it aloud: I lack a positive relationship to not only my own father, but pretty much every male authority figure in my life, and am using Vader and his daughter/daughter-surrogates to work this through. Arrogance, much?). I’ve learned not to get my hopes up anymore, that this is a gap I have to bridge on my own.
Which is not to say that the events were disappointments, on the contrary. Hope Dies developed rhymes from Vader in ways I really enjoyed thinking about, bringing together a daughter (Leia) and her surrogate-mirror (Trios) in philosophical and physical conflict, showing Vader at his weirdest and worst, at his most controlling and at his most blind (to his daughter(s)), at his most controlled (precisely when you think he’s off the leash he’s shown lashed to it). I loved it, and think it will hold up even better with a little distance, when read all together as one piece. Trying to describe the experience, I’m inclined to say it was like reading the next book of an epic poem - or the next stanza of one long poem - there were poetic qualities to the experience, in other words.
The Catastrophe Con felt more like an enjoyable puzzle where all the pieces are given in staggered spurts at the start and the race is to put them together correctly before the minor and major twists are revealed. I had fun with that, failed miserably of course, but learned a great deal about how comics can be written in the process. Like - the spores. What do the spores do? They keep Aphra in the jail and indirectly bring a host of different agents to the jail by messing with her escape plan, thus setting up the final conflict. They bring out her greed. They create something of a mystery to keep readers invested. They drop clues about Lopset. They remind her of her mother so she can reflect aloud on the theme of choice versus necessity, on categorial versus hypothetical ethics, a major theme in Aphra comics that will also explicitly structure the next arc. And they invoke the Force, and thus can keep Vader distracted so that Sana can rescue Tolvan. Which, I mean, is a way of putting the joke on Vader - he misses something essential because he runs off to deal with an empty spectre. Is that what I thought the spores would do at the time? In some ways yes, but mostly no. One could ask the same question of the Bor - what does it do? One could argue that it establishes lore (recasting Bodhi's torture, giving us new information about Aphra's electric tattoos) and gives Aphra a way to escape. But it also serves as the means of bringing out Aphra's capacity for great love and infinite selfishness at the same time, highlighting how decoupled her emotions are from her self-preserving actions, contrasting her with characters like Vader and Triple-Zero. The Bor is a powerful tool in that sense.
All of which is to say: these comics did something in my life, and it was a definite experience to open myself up to the process in this way, an experience worth thinking about and learning from for the future. Time now to go out into the world and do something active with it. /end of navel-gazing

Chapter 1 || Red Converses
You had tried calling Namjoon several times today already, your calls always going straight to voicemail, and your numerous texts, too, had remained unread, not even being delivered. He must’ve turned his phone off, probably to focus on his work, you figured, knowing that he’d been planning on locking himself up in his studio today to finally get some songwriting done after having been stricken with creative block for weeks in a row now. However, you spontaneously decided to leave town for a couple of days, to spend some quality time by the sea with an old friend of yours who is visiting from China, so you wanted to at least let Namjoon know and say your goodbyes before taking off. What you hadn't expected, however, when you had made up your mind to drop by his studio and surprise him, is that you would find the door to it unlocked. And to be faced with the scene right in front of you now. A smile still frozen on your lips, eyes burning, unable to breathe, merely a soundless gasp escaping your lips, you remain standing in the doorway to Namjoon’s studio, paralyzed by shock, feeling your heart being crushed by your chest caving in on itself under the weight of what you see. In disbelief, refusing to trust your own eyes, you blink them. Once. Twice. A dozen times. However, finally, you can’t help but accept that the image painfully etching itself into your memory this instant is indeed real. There is another woman with him. With Namjoon. Your Namjoon. She’s sitting on his lap, facing him, her legs twined around his waist, her slender arms wrapped around his neck, while Namjoon’s big, strong hands - the hands that used to touch only you in such a way - are buried in her long, dark hair. You can hear both of them breathing heavily even from where you stand. And your ears ache with the sound of their lips passionately interlocking. No. No way. This can’t be real. It can't be. Slowly, silently, your knees weak, you take an uncertain step backward, then another, into the empty hallway, closing the door behind you without making a sound, your eyes still wide with horror. There you stay, standing in the middle of the dark corridor, your whole body trembling, hands shaking uncontrollably. Breathe. You have to breathe, Y/N, you remind yourself. But your entire world has just been ripped apart in a matter of seconds, so your body obviously sees no sense in maintaining its basic functions. You can’t even feel its need for oxygen anymore, the expectable burning of your lungs simply missing, not to be sensed. You don’t feel anything right now, not even real anymore. All you can feel is the ground falling away beneath your feet, a dizzy spell threatening to overtake you, your head pounding while your brain desperately tries to process the meaning of what you just witnessed. This can’t be real. This can’t be real. This can’t be real. Namjoon would never — But he did. You feel nausea building up in your cramping stomach. You have to get out of here. As far away from him, from them, as you can get. Right now. Cruelly slowly making your way to the exit, breathing heavily, your limbs numb, supporting yourself against the wall, you call your best friend without even giving it a second thought, your fingers operating your phone almost automatically. He picks up immediately. „Jimin-ah, I’m feeling sick“, you barely manage to get out the words, doing your best to hold back a sob. „Can you please come an pick me up?“
„Of course, Y/N!“ You can clearly hear the genuine worry resonating in his soft, familiar voice, the mere sound of it already being of comfort to you. „What happened? Where are you?“ „I’m in front of the studio.“ „But … isn't Namjoon there?“ „He’s busy.“ „Okay …“ Jimin unmistakably hesitates, however, you’re infinitely grateful he seems to have decided not dig any deeper for the moment. „I’m already on my way, Y/N. Hold on! I’ll be right there!“ „Thank you, Jimin-ah.“ You hang up and force yourself to keep going, finally making it outside, shakily inhaling the fresh air, taking one hand to your face in order to shield it against the bright daylight hurting your teary eyes. s. The fucking red Converse’s you were only wearing for him. Because you know Namjoon liked them on you the day you first met. Because he wouldn't stop telling you how he couldn't get enough of you in them.As soon as the door clicks shut behind you, your trembling legs ultimately give out, leading you to stumble and almost fall down the few stairs and to the ground. You barely manage to steady yourself, your free hand firmly gripping the banister next to you, your gaze, directed downwards, involuntarily settling on your shoes. Red Converses. The fucking red Converses you were only wearing for him. Because you know Namjoon liked them on you the day you first met. Because he wouldn't stop telling you how he couldn't get enough of you in them. Suddenly you realize: These aren’t even your shoes your looking down on right now. They are his, just like you believed you were. But they are a lie now. Everything was a lie. Every last one of the sweet nothings he used to whisper to you. Everything. Was. A lie. The abrupt awareness of this harsh truth lets the nausea boil up in you once again, more forcefully this time. Panting, you stagger into a narrow alley, tears streaming down your face while you empty your convulsing stomach onto the sidewalk. You can’t stop vomiting, not even to catch your breath. It’s almost like your body wants to get them all out. All those feelings left for Namjoon. For the man who promised to always protect and never hurt you, to stay true to you and by your side for better or for worse. Who knew how you’d been hurt before and swore you could trust him, to always love you. Always. How ridiculous. The word itself. Preposterous. Nobody can love anyone always or forever. There is no always, no forever. Our time on this planet is limited. And so is our capacity to love another person, it seems. Never had you imagined, though, that Namjoon of all people would betray you like this, that he was even capable of cheating. You’d always believed him to be a mature, honest man. However, people can change, you remind yourself, and obviously never seize to surprise. You just can’t help but wonder what it was that pushed Namjoon over the edge. Was it you? Did you lack something? Did you do something wrong? Didn’t you do your best as the woman by his side? Didn’t you satisfy his needs? Didn't you wait for him patiently, whenever he couldn't make time for you? Didn't you go along with his busy schedule as an idol without ever complaining? Didn't you?
When Jimin arrives, he finds you pacing up and down the pavement in front of the Big Hit building, nervously running your hands through your hair, a frighteningly restless, frantic expression in your eyes, your face white as a sheet, your breathing flat and its rhythm far too rapid. Immediately, he hurries to your side, taking you by the shoulders to stop you in your step. „Hey, Y/N! Calm down! It’s alright. I’m here now. I’m here.“ Torn from your desperately spinning thoughts by the welcome sound of his well-known voice you look up at Jimin, only now made aware of his presence. You don’t even try to resist when he pulls you in for a tight, comforting hug. „You came“, you whisper into his shirt, a single tear of relief making its way down your cheek and seeping into the soft fabric of his sweater. „Of course, I came, Y/N. Now, let’s go. Let’s go home.“ „Not to the dorm!“, you call out, unintentionally raising your voice, pulling away from his embrace. Jimin’s eyes widened in surprise at your unexpectedly strong reaction, he merely nods, reassuring you with a sweet smile. „Alright, Y/N. I’ll drop you off at your apartment then, or wherever you want. I don’t mind where we go. All that matters is that you’re comfortable. Okay?“ „Thank you. But my apartment is perfectly fine.“ „Good“, he smiles at you, his smooth, soothing voice already having a noticeable calming effect on you. „Let’s go then. The cab is waiting just around the corner.“ Gently, he takes you by the elbow and leads you towards the vehicle, proceeding to place you in the backseat and to sit down right next to you, never once letting go of your arm. „Sit back and relax, Y/N“, he tells you, and you gladly comply, closing your eyes while listening to Jimin giving directions to the driver in a low voice and politely asking him to turn down the music, probably afraid your rest would be disturbed otherwise. How can he still be so sweet and caring towards me?, you can’t help but wonder. After what you’d put him through all those years ago. His kindness and forgiveness will most likely forever remain an enigma to you. For now, however, you push aside all thoughts of your shared past and decide to enjoy Jimin’s comfort, settling into the hug he offers once again, leaning your head on his shoulder. „Y/N?“, he cautiously speaks up after few minutes of welcome silence. „Hmm-hmm“, you simply hum in response, unable to muster the strength necessary to open your eyes and look up at him. „I was just wondering … Are you ‚sick‘ sick, or was this another one of your panic attacks?“ You can feel your heart twist in your chest. It’s not ready yet for this kind of talk. „Don’t know“, you reply, keeping it short to hide the shaking of your voice. „You wanna talk about it?“ „No.“ Jimin just nods silently, gently pulling your head closer to his chest, apparently having noticed your muscles tensing up in reaction to his questions. In a slow, tranquilizing rhythm he starts caressing your hair, one arm around your shoulder until he suddenly stops. You can feel his head shoot up. „Yah, Y/N, why aren’t you wearing any shoes!?“ „I puked on them“, you truthfully reply, leaving out unnecessarily painful details. „Should I go back and get them? I could go back after I drop you off and leave them with our dry cleaners. They'll look as good as new once they’re done with them.“ „Don’t bother.“ „But … weren’t they your favorites? Your red Converse Highs? You wear them all the time. They’re basically the only flats you own.“ „Yeah“, you sigh. „But … don’t you love those worn out things? Aren’t they like special to you and Namjoon?“, Jimin keeps asking, sounding increasingly confused, astonished by your indifference. „Forget about it. They’re ruined.“ Your cold, resolute tone keeps him from making any further inquiries. He knows you. He has known you for years, probably better than you know yourself, maybe even better than Namjoon does. He knows your boundaries, and he knows very well not to push them. So Jimin simply decides to offer you his wordless consolation, for now, even unaware of what troubles your heart, stroking your back, his fingers circling across the thin fabric of your shirt, tracing calming shapes and lines on your covered skin. When you finally arrive at your destination he helps you out of the car, your knees still weak, and slowly, with you leaning onto his shoulder, leads you upstairs and inside your small, humble flat. You don’t even need to give him the access code to the front door. Jimin’s fingers still remember the sequence of numbers you’d written down for him over three years ago. „I can take it from here“, you say without looking him in the eye, the two of you still standing in the doorway. „No way, Y/N. I’m not leaving you in this state. I haven’t seen you this shaken up since —“, he pauses, his voice cracking, the silence building up, filling the room in between the two of you, quickly becoming unbearable, smothering. He shoots you a quick inquiring glance, but you try hard not to show any reaction. „Well —“ Jimin clears his throat. You can see his cheeks blushing from the corner of your eye. „I haven't seen you this shaken up in years. I have no idea what happened to get you into this state, and I won’t pry. If you’re ready to tell me, feel free to. You know I’m always there for you, willing to listen. Until then I won’t bother you with any further awkward questions. I just want you to rest and get better, to take care of you as a friend, that’s all. Will you let me?“ Weakly, you nod, signaling him with a gesture of your hand to follow you inside. Jimin gives you a faint smile, his eyes still searching yours for any kind of clue as to what might have stirred you up like this. You simply avert your gaze, however, don’t resist when he takes you by both your shoulders, gently pushing you towards your bedroom. „Now change into something comfortable and lie down. I’ll make you your favorite tea. It’s still that weird blend, cocoa bean, and licorice, right?“ You can’t help but grin. „Yeah, that’s the one.“ His face lights up at your response. „Good. I’ll be right back, Y/N. Make yourself comfortable in the meantime.“ You nod, still grinning to yourself, even after Jimin has left and closed the door behind him. He’s too good to you. A fact you are painfully made aware of once again as your eyes casually sweep over a framed photograph while you get undressed. The picture, placed on your bookshelf, hidden behind a vase, shows Jimin and you, your arm thrown around his neck and his around your waist while you give him a peck on the cheek, your faces beaming in naive happiness. That was another me and another him. Ages ago. Those two people don’t exist anymore, you quickly remind yourself, detaching your gaze from the photograph. As you nestle to your comfortable pillow, however, you are faced with another picture, another memory, sending a sudden, piercing pain through your entire body, originating from your chest, your aching heart. It’s a Polaroid, of you and Namjoon, taken on your birthday in the first year you spent together as an official couple. It was taken by Taehyung, if you remember correctly. He was a little embarrassed by the scene in front of him, taunting you, taking the photo only to show the two of you how disgustingly rampant you were even in public. However, the both of you ended up loving it, the polaroid showing you entangled in each other, you sitting on Namjoons hips, one of his hands placed on your bottom, the other one buried in your hair, your lips locked in a deep, passionate kiss. He’d never been afraid of public display of affection once the two of you had made it official, meaning not only making officially known that you were dating, but that you were deeply, madly in love with each other. Were. Were. What a hurtful little word. You close your eyes and bury your head in your pillows, unable to stand to look at the image for even one more second. However, it keeps haunting you, showing up in your feverish dreams as you sink into a shallow, restless sleep...
To be continued ...
