tell me about Ajax! which of the 5 senses would he be willing to give up? How does he respond to physical and emotional pain? Which NPC frightened him the most? How does he react to unexpected gifts?
Hiiii thank you for asking about Ajax 🥺 And these are really interesting questions, thank you! 😁
Which of the 5 senses would he be willing to give up?
He had given up half of his eyesight when he agreed to Volo’s surgery, but in the end the ersatz eye actually enhanced his sight, so I don’t think that counts. I think he’d be fine without his sense of smell, especially as someone who works with dead bodies all the time.
How does he respond to physical and emotional pain?
Ajax has high tolerance for physical pain. It takes a lot of hits to take him down, so much so that he may not notice when he’s actually close to collapsing from exhaustion/blood loss/etc. Not to mention he can also heal himself as a paladin so he could keep going for longer than he should. At one point, Shadowheart had to dose him with a sleeping potion just so he would get some rest.
As for emotional pain… I’d say his Guilt and Misery Level is always at a 7 out of 10, so he thinks he’s “good” at Acting Normal, or at least, normal enough that his companions would still let him lead the way. In other low-stress circumstances, not really. There’s a few times in the game when his misery level rises to 10 (and above), in which he goes violent→catatonic, or if he’s aware, he’ll want to numb it out and forget all about it, however he can. He’s not the best with coping mechanisms, sadly.
Which NPC frightened him the most?
Kressa Bonedaughter, for all the times she’d tortured him for her “research”. It’s one of the times Ajax’s misery level immediately shot up to 10. He killed her with his bare hands, and he would’ve done more than that if they weren’t pressed for time. It’s also the moment when Ajax swore a new oath—the oath of vengance—instead of reclaiming his old one (oath of conquest).
How does he react to unexpected gifts?
Ajax loves them, though he may not react “correctly” the first time. He’d probably be confused, wondering what brought on this sudden fit of generosity. Later, he’d approach the gift-giver to thank them properly, and he’d treasure it for all time, always keeping it on his person.
During Act 1, he’s gifted a few times by NPCs he helped, like Komira’s locket and Mirkon’s handwritten story. Those gifts were fundamental to Ajax wanting to be good. (Of course, he would come to learn that acts of kindness are not always rewarded…!)

CANON
Why did Elturel fall?
҉Z҉. In the Year of Three Ships Sailing 1492 (BG3 time), The Companion changed into a black orb, instead of it's bright and shining appearance in the center of Elturel. This event lead Elturel to disappear from the Material Plane and into the land of Avernus.
҉Z҉. The High Observer, Thavius Kreeg had betrayed the city of Elturel, and traded it to Archdevil Zariel. The Creed Resolute- something The Order of Companions took a part of, bound them to Zariel's army. This is at the time of The Blood War, this only increased her Army and gave her vengance of her past time as a Hellrider.
҉Z҉. Shortly after the city fell into Avernus, and refugees left for Baldur's Gate, any Hellrider was arrested on site
҉Z҉. Thavuis Kreeg went forward to set "Faerun" right, which included inquisitions, harsh laws, and a firm hand. Elturel became an independent city, and established major trading with Iriaebor and Waterdeep. Their reputation then started to regard Baldur's Gate as lawless and corrupt, disapproving it's religious tolerance. Baldurians started robbing trades and ships of Elturel in lashback.
҉Z҉
»»»»Z»»»»
How did The Descent impact folks?
҉Z҉. It caused many to flee, and become refugees. Many found their way to Baldur's Gate. Some were stuck in Elturel and became undeads. Tieflings were expelled from the city, blacked for Elturel’s fall, and any Tiefling Hellriders were stripped of their title.
҉Z҉. Elturians could no longer hold the title Hellrider, it would get them arrested at Baldur’s Gate by the Flaming Fist
»»»»Z»»»»
Who were the Hellriders?
҉Z҉. They were a Cavalry, or City Guard that protected Elturel in the Western Heartlands in the 14th and 15th century. They were highly regarded and often Paladins of Oath or the Crown. They were highly skilled on horseback.
҉Z҉. They wore red and white plate mail armor, marked with a crest. In the 1400's a new crest of Elturguard replaced on the armor.
҉Z҉. Elturel became a popular city blooming with agriculture and trade because of it's safety. Chionthar boats could pass through knowing they were safe.
҉Z҉. Very loyal to their gods, companions, and commanders.
»»»»Z»»»»
Where is Elturel compared to the rest of The Material Plane?
҉Z҉ It is a City-State banked on the Chionthar River
҉Z҉ It was the Capitol of the Realm Elturguard, a Theocracy of Torm, protected by the highest Paladin Knighthood- The Order of the Comapnion
҉Z҉. The inhabitants speak Thorasta. The correct term for these folk is "Elturian", the incorrect way is "Elturelian"
҉Z҉. Elturel ended up falling into Avernus, that's why you'll hear comments about your hellish stench by some of the Refugees in the Grove. and why druids are continually hostile.
»»»»Z»»»»
Who lead Elturel before its fall?
҉Z҉. The new leader, after Lord Dhelt, Thavius Kreeg. A false protector of Elturel, who at the time was named The High Observer of Torm, a priest. He promised Zariel Elturel in a pact to the Archdevil.
҉Z҉. "Before the fall, Kreeg coaxed Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard of Baldur's Gate to come to Elturel to resolve several disputes that had troubled the two cities for some time. After greeting the Baldurian delegation, Kreeg escaped Elturel in secret." Causing a bigger riff in the relationship with Baldur's Gate.
҉Z҉ In a third rendition of the naming of the Hellriders, who rode into the hells. There had been thieves, fiends, arson, and despair along the Fields of the Dead, west of Elturel, the Cavalry fought them off but the hordes kept arriving. They asked for Elturians to pray to any god to help them.
҉Z҉. Help arrived in the then-rogue angel Zariel. She claimed she found the way these fiends were coming from called the gate, and promised to train the Cavalry for the battle into the heart of the problem. During a particular battle in 1354, they charged into Avernus through the gate. It was too much for the Hellriders at this time.
҉Z҉. Some tried to turn back, only a few escaped with the shame knowing they left their allies behind. Most were trapped in Avernus, along with Zariel. The trapped where crucified and wiped out and placed in a Crypt as a relic of Avernus, Zariel was captured and sworn fealty to Asmodeus. This was Zariel's fate, and she never forgave the Hellrider's who abandoned her to Asmodeus' mercy.
҉Z҉. Archdevil Zariel suspended the city in chains over the River Styx.
"With the city's leaders lost, none other than Grand Duke Ravengard rallied the defense. The High Hall was the center of the defense effort, and also the focus of the devil assault."
҉Z҉ Elturel was later restored, and the hatred for Tieflings was even higher after.
»»»»Z»»»»
Why were Paladins important to Elturel?
҉Z҉. During the mid-1360's, a shadow veiled Elturel, a unit was sent out to investigate by Lord Dhelt. The unit walked through the veil, revealing a desert plain, located in the Demiplane of Dread, called Har'Akir.
҉Z҉. In the Year 1444 (The Year of The Seductive Cambion) Lord Dhelt, the High Rider and ruler of Elturel, was revealed to be a Vampire, with a large network of undead and spawn. After his reveal, the city of Elturel was taken over by the undead.
҉Z҉ The second sun, the Companion, struck done Lord Dhelt and his undeads. After this the High Observer- Thavius Kreeg, and the Order of the Companion came to be.
҉Z҉. It was the highest honor bestowed upon Paladins to be apart of The Order of the Companion after such a terrible rumble in Elturel.
»»»»Z»»»»
How come this Cavalry Unit was so good? Who did it consist of?
҉Z҉. Guard Patrol was numbered in 30 people, with a Cleric of Helm and lead by a Marshal. They rode horses or patrolled on foot.
҉Z҉. They were proficient with spears, bows or long sabers.
҉Z҉. They reached patrol establishments in areas outside of Elturel, such as Fields of the Dead, Skuldask Road, and Dusk Road. They even had established rowing barges along the Chionthar River. They were capable of escorting, as far as Iriaebor and Waterdeep.
҉Z҉. For a time in mid-1300's, commanded by Lord Dhelt, they would take on raids, sorties, expeditions, and assaults on demihumans.
҉Z҉ People would come to Elturel just to join, and training started as young as 12 years old (human and tiefling years), a tenth of paycheck was given to Elturel's coffers.
҉Z҉. Being a Hellrider was a job for life. If someone tried to quit, they were given one last mission, very long, deadly and difficult. If they survived, they would be stripped and exiled, given the title of Heretics in Helm's eyes.
Fun little passage about our least favorite camp visitor!!!!!
"The famed travelogue writer Volothamp Geddarm visited Elturel and wrote of it in his Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast around 1366 DR.
In 1368 DR, Volo was visiting the city of Elturel once again. The he engaged in a table dice game with a severe-looking northern barbarian. Coincidently, exactly at that time, the goddess of luck Tymora was affected by Iyachtu Xvim's plot to steal the powers of the goddess and her sister Beshaba. The city of Elturel, like many other places in the Realms became awash with good luck and its disruptive consequences. Volo ended up rolling a multitude of doubles, enraging his opponent and fleeing for his life through the streets of Elturel." - Forgotten Realms Wiki

HEADCANONS
- Zevlor had a shorter slick back haircut before having to heard his people somewhere safe. It just grew out and he hasn’t had time to deal with it.
- He clawed his way to commander. And he’s very proud of it. But now that it’s been taken away, he can’t even bare to talk about it. He gets quiet.
- He would love the date idea of a picnic, something quiet. A homemade meal. If you were a more active person, archery would be something you’d both love to playful compete in with each other.
- Getting him to open up about Elturel wouldn’t be hard, but it wouldn’t be pleasant for him. Over time he’ll slowly reveal feelings about it. He’s kinda just vague and says the obvious the first time you talk about it.
- He’s courted before, but he’s older and not had as much time to court properly for a long time. Climbing the ranks to commander, as a Tiefling, took all his time. Constantly trying to prove his loyalty.
- He would like to retire after everything. Not on the Coast. He’s had too many unpleasant memories to earnestly find a place he loves. He’d love somewhere new, quiet, and honest. Like Eveningstar in Cormyr or Saradush in Tethyr. Saradush has had its trouble but its population has grown in the last 15 years and it’s quiet.
- He’s more carnivorous, he loves a good steak and potato meal. You may be the opposite. He doesn’t mind whatever you make but he just loves when it’s a hearty meal. He can cook too. But then again it’s hearty meals. Quick flavorless stews that he’d be in charge of, when it was his turn with the cook pot in the cavalry.
- He’s very old-man coded. He loves talking about his time in the cavalry, he loves sitting on the porch eating a handful of almonds or peanuts. He loves drinking tea with you in the evenings while he reads the local newspapers about the tea crops in Saradush. He likes wearing long-john or sleeping tunics to bed.
- you love wearing his shirts to bed. Usually the ones he doesn’t touch to often, it smells like the dusty closet and your home together.
- he will consider cutting his hair, however you see him handsome. He shaves with a shaving brush and proper shaving knife that he sharpens occasionally. He lathered the foamy cream on his face and it makes him look like Santa Clause a bit. Makes him smell really good too.
- if you cut his hair, you’ll do it on a chair on your wooden porch in the evening. Talking to him while he keeps as still as possible.
- his chest has freckles from the sun
- He doesn’t mind children, he’s protective naturally but he would be an older parent, capable, but his knees are old.
- he will go on morning walks alone, or with you.
- he has scars along his body, most are just knicks, some of them have a larger story.
————————————————————————
NSFW
- he does not have all the energy in the world to fuck you like it’s a new day. It’s same shit, different day for him. Not sex but regular life.
- he likes to be slow, he doesn’t have great restraint and finishes more often. He’ll keep going and do whatever it takes to fulfill you after, he feels bad. All that time in the army left him high and dry most for the time.
- if you argue or have had a recent scare between you, he’ll fuck you from behind against a wall like there’s no tomorrow. You’ll stay up cuddling with him after, soft words and comforting touch on his chest. He can’t afford to lose you.
- he falls asleep after, he cleans you up properly, you help him too, and you both fall asleep in each others arms. Sometimes. I don’t think Zevlor likes to be piled on in his sleep. He tolerates it but it makes it harder for him to fall asleep.
- he eats it like nobody’s business. Dick or pussy, or just a hole, he’s really good at it. He’s really really good at teasing all your other senses during it, he’s very generous and focused. While you’re all over the place with your touching
- it’s rare for you two to takes baths together. When you do, you’re in his lap, facing him and washing his hair and body. You take generous kisses from his lips that make him smile. He respects your body and washes it well and proper. You urge him to tease you and he just gets shy and playful instead.
- he licks down your sweaty neck, savoring the flavor. His hands brush over your chest and his finger nails drag along your nipples. You shallowly moan and drag your hips up into his, your centers brushing over each other. He groans down your chest with more open mouthed kisses.
- you push his shoulders urging him to look at you, when you’ve caught his attention, you flip him over and straddle his chest, giving him a lovely view of your stomach. You lean over and kiss him, shifting your hips down to his waist. His tail wraps around your ankle dragging you down a bit so your groins line up. He places his hands on your hips pushing you back and forth for friction.

I will continue this when I think of more things :)

been thinking about flint durge. unfortunately i dont think flint x astarion is very likely cuz astarion is just not as smart as silver and flint is not the shamelessly horny idiot astarion is looking for in act 1. flint would frame him for alfiras murder. maybe he would like gale cuz of the mutual love of books. uhh wyll seems like quartermaster material cuz hes charismatic and i think theyd have fun tension cuz flint is evil <3 have no idea how he'd think of the other origins aside from manipulating them tbh. and thats like not hard cuz they have to stick by you no matter what anyway. i think he would be an oath of vengance paladin :)

Paladins and Oaths in BG3
SO I've been writing a fic about a Paladin who is the chosen of an unnamed god and WEEPING at how the god I did choose for them fits so beautifully with Gale's whole character arc of rebirth and coming back to life after isolation by falling in love (either platonically or romantically he always allows himself to be completely changed by the player character).
More babble about some headcannons for the inner workings of how Oaths work and Paladins within Gale's romance arc in BG3 under the cut
SO the God that I have chosen for my Paladin to worship is OSIRIS who exists in the broader DnD pantheon (specifically eastern Faerun). He is the God of Death, God of Nature, and God of Life and ALL of those happen to fall under the Oath of the Ancients route in BG3. To a scary degree, even though he is not mentioned anywhere in the game as far as I have seen (my sources are not that wide, I've only played through the story 100% one time on my PS5 and I'm playing through again with a Paladin to see how the fighting mechanics work as metaphors for being inspired divinely and trying to understand what the Oathbreaker is supposed to do in canon and not having purchased the art book so I have not seen if that was something they chose to focus on). It's sent me on a whole spiral into his lore and how he would absolutely canonically choose a Sun Elf to act as his sword in the world while he rests up and tries to take over the role as God of Death after the Dead Three are defeated. I've been on fire drawing all of the fun visual themes and secrets alluding to a godly presence in a comic about this.
My personal headcannon for Oaths in BG3 are that they act as intermediaries to place Initiate paladins into a Church. There is a period of intense isolation and study once you have sworn one of the available oaths, (Order of the Ancients, Order of Vengance, etc.) and after you have submitted an essay to an elder counsel you are allowed to act as an Initiate to the Order. No paladin is expected to stay in service to the Order forever, they're only supposed to be there while they find a Church that is right for them in theory.
Order of the Ancients, however, just has a thing for keeping some of their Paladins in service to the order. One could argue that the Oathbreaker needs to be stricter to Initates to make sure they don't embarrass the Order while they are interviewing different Churches, and that is why the cost of reconnecting someone to their healing magic goes up every time the Oath is broken, regardless of the offense until you reach a Church, then the punishment's cost is determined by the Church the Paladin serves. One could also argue that it would be against an Order's best interest to keep a certain number of initiates in their service so they don't lose out on a very steady stream of income.
How this ties in to the Tav of this world:
Luana Tanar'ri is a 186 year old sun elf, and she has been in service to the order for her entire waking memory as an adult (Elves rename themselves when they turn 100, and she does not remember renaming herself but she does remember entering Isolation and telling people how old she is). She mirrors the story Astarion tells us about the Gods in Baldur's Gate refusing to come to the aide of mortals. She tries so hard to keep herself in line when she is tadpoled so she doesn't make the entire camp pay the Oathbreaker to keep her useful as a healer. She goes out of her way to help other people to keep the Gods favor, even though she is pretty sure she must have done something really horrible to deserve to be in this whole mess in the first place.
As a healer, she has always been put as close to the battlefield as possible. She can't see someone hurt without offering them a healing hand. Her healing takes on a vision of what anchors the recipient to their lives, a way for Osiris to judge if this soul is worthy of being in his service when he regains power but the Order of the Ancients do not know that when Luana has been abducted and thrust into the Tav role in this story. They just need to use her for the pretty face she brings to their Order, a PR stunt doll and an income stream. After all this time, she has exhausted every possible option for a newer more senior position Luana could take in the Order to try to move out of the Initiate role. Her story starts the day she quits her job, which happens to be 48 hours before the nautiloid will come cruising through Baldur's Gate. She is almost 100% positive that if she stops doing good deeds for a single moment the Oathbreaker will catch up to her. She needs to make herself loved and adored by her companions, so they don't kick her to the curb once they get the bill for her latest crimes against the Order.
Of all the companions that she finds in camp, Gale offers the nicest distraction for her: a constant stream of information about the world they are exploring around them. She was always the one asked to clear out a temple and compile the loot to ship off to academics to study and categorized and she had never had the opportunity to be able to hear one of them work. It was too dangerous for their minds to be used for something as silly as battle strategy, but since he's clearly not fought anyone or anything before this adventure she tries to help him out as best as she can. She relies on her paladin tank combat training to try to clear paths for him, but she is confused when he is not relieved that someone else took care of it for him but seems to be incredibly distraught over the idea of her throwing herself into the fray and getting hurt. Even more confused when she finds herself spending extra time making sure the things she brings back to camp are up to Gale's standards as the de-facto Chef in camp and she is disappointed when he is not the one running the kitchen that night.

After a long hiatus due to work and some mental health ups and downs, I resurfaced through Baldur’s Gate 3. DnD has become one of the few things to keep my metaphorical head above the proverbial water, and so I’ve been sketching once more one of my Tavs, because I have grown fond of him enough that he’s living rent free in my mind, firmly cuddled in a sandwich between Halsin and Astarion.
(I will go back to my usual Bagginshield business soon enough, but the reprieve is being most welcome, so bear with me for a little)
I thought introductions might be in order, since yall might see him around, so. This is Adar’el, a Selûnite cleric + oath of vengance Paladin tiefling, in a mission to avenge the selûnite woman who took him off the streets and cared for him since he was a teen, murdered by sharans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a companion, he would have an owlette called Lûar, which belonged to the selûnite elf that took him in. He would also get a bamf scythe (in game there are none, sadly, so he goes for a long sword or the moonlight glaive)
In game, he romances Astarion in a very “if you insult my boyfriend you will taste the might of the gods” kind of way, and most of the time will tank the fight and get all damage on him so the rest of the party can go around killing baddies.
Tumblr media
I might be posting more stuff about him in the future, because the grip this game (and Adar’el) has on me is honestly shameful 😅

I have non spoilered pictures. I tried to hold back. But I made Mac in BG3 and colored his backstory a little bit. Is he a rogue?
No.
I gave him a hammer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kept with the overall theme of his name. Meet Rolthos Muhtar. I'll wait a while before I talk as to why (I have not completed the game yet due to time and school and work and all that shit), but Rolthos is a paladin with the Oath of Vengance. Seriously, guys, I've been having a TON of fun with him. Cyrilla struggled through a couple of fights that he flat out breezed through.
ON THE DOWN SIDE, I absolutely have had to reload a save due to his ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE DICE ROLLS. Like my god, man, please let me actually use your stats! The amount of nat ones I have received from him. He trips through conversations one minute, then charms his way past enemies the next. As far as rolls, I can't with this man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at that portrait though. This man is so cute. I do plan on writing soon with him and Eri (DND!Em), I just need to find the time to plot out the main points and get her into the game as well (I imagine she will be very squishy at the start)
I don't mind if you stare at these pics as long as I have, I plan on getting more. I HAVE more, but spoilers.

He's going to make me cry.
My lore for them is that Octavia was just a fighter with a deathwish who fell for the hot vampire, but became an Oath of Vengance Paladin when she learned of Astarion's past and swore free him and make Cazador pay. She's a crazy little attack dog :3.

I was pondering what kind of characters i'd like to make with the Dark Urge origin and there was your classic "sweetheart who doesn't want this" oc, and the "i'm into this" oc, anddddd I was playing with the cc and made an Oath of Vengance paladin and like....yes. A guy who had a very black/white mentality and is all in for destroying evil at all costs but now he's the evil? Perfect, wanna know how he'll deal with that

have you ever thought about hxh x dnd?
Oh I have! (also sorry I started typing an answer to this about a month ago and then got distracted and forgot about it. whoops!)
I think if you wanted to make a rpg system to fit in the hxh world I would suggest going totally homebrew or adapting some other system like fate to fit the needs (I've played fate adapted w/ Jojo stands).
But if you want to know which hxh characters I think would be what particular dnd class... Here’s what I would pick.
Gon: Way of the Four Elements Monk
Killua: Assassin Rogue
Kurapika: Oath of Vengance Paladin
Leorio: Peace Cleric
Hisoka: Way of Mercy Monk
Illumi: Arcane Trickster Rogue
Chrollo: Trickery Cleric
Alluka: Warlock, Pact of the Ancient One
Bisky: Path of the Berserker Barbarian
Ging: Drakewarden Ranger
Pariston: College of Glamour Bard
Cheadle: Knowledge Cleric
Mizai: School of Abjuration Wizard
Kite: Circle of Wildfire Druid
However.... this is what class I think they would select for themselves.
Gon: Battlemaster Fighter
Killua: Pact of the Chain Warlock
Kurapika: Bladesinger Wizard
Leorio: Oath of Redemption Paladin
Hisoka: Eldritch Knight Fighter
Illumi: Mastermind Rogue
Chrollo: School of Conjuration Wizard
Alluka: College of Creation Bard
Bisky: Swashbuckler Rogue
Ging: Circle of Stars Druid
Pariston: Wild Magic Sorcerer
Cheadle: Alchemist Artificer
Mizai: Tempest Cleric
Kite: Beast Master Ranger
And here is the list of hxh characters I think would actually play DnD
1. The entire greed island squad
- (Ging: Circle of Stars Druid Razor: Unarmored Barbarian Eta: Tempest Cleric Elena: Twilight Cleric Dwun:  List: College of Swords Bard Ickshonpe: Battle Smith Artificer )
2. Milluki: School of Necromancy Wizard
3. Satotz: College of Lore, Bard
