What was your inspiration for Yara? how did she come to be?
Oooh good question!! Yara, like the vast majority of my OCs, underwent a lot of tweaks and changes and development to the point I have her at right now, where I've got her story and personality and abilities and all that pretty tightly nailed down.
Her character concept started as Mihawk's daughter (I just thought he was EXTREMELY COOL the first time he showed up in the East Blue arc), since I have a thing with my OCs where they always end up being related to a canon character somehow (i.e. Circe Mackinnon (Soul Eater) being the half-sister of Franken Stein; Lilletz Lucilfer (HxH) being the younger sister of Chrollo; Haganezuka Minako (KnY) being the niece of Haganezuka Hotaru; Joey Armansky (Death Note) being the cousin of Mary Kenwood/Wedy; (Iryna Kovalenko (BnHA) fits this mould too but I haven't revealed who she's related to just yet heheh it's a bit of a doozy)). Funny enough, I initially envisioned her travelling with her father and perhaps encountering the Straw Hats at Baratie, so the whole abandonment plotline actually didn't come into play until later, when I decided to make her a Whitebeard Pirate after meeting Ace in the Alabasta arc and absolutely falling in love with him (which only grew as I learned more about him and the depth of his character).
Sometimes, the funny thing with OCs is that after a certain point, their stories just sort of begin to write themselves and all the pieces start to fit together in some really nice thematic ways. Yara and Ace's relationship developed as they found common ground with their resentment towards their fathers and both looking to Whitebeard as a surrogate father figure, which in turn developed Yara's internal struggles with her own identity (not knowing where she came from for the longest time and then even after finding out who her father is, dealing with the pain of being an unwanted and neglected child who grew up into an fiercely angry, yet profoundly lonely young woman). The more I thought about what Yara's early life must've been like, the more I could get a good grasp of who she is as a young adult, what her major plot beats are, and how those connect with the canon story.
Her relation to Wano and the Shimotsuki family (and Zoro, who became her second cousin on her mother's side) was a later addition, as I continued to learn more about the One Piece world and how she could potentially fit into each arc. Marineford and Wano were the two natural places where she would exist, so I've really tried to figure out her development in relation to those two arcs.
I hope that answers your question okay! I could really talk about Yara (or any of my OCs) all day heheh

“Being with me… It’ll put you in danger, you know.”  “We’re pirates. If you haven’t noticed, we’re in danger every single day.” “Yeah, but… With me, it’s…” Ace reached over, caressing Yara’s cheek as he turned her attention to him. There was an uncharacteristically serious look in his dark brown eyes. “If the World Government finds out you’re involved with someone who carries the bloodline of that man, they’ll kill you without hesitation.” Yara laughed gently, catching Ace’s hand and moving it to her lips, pressing a kiss to his knuckles. “Ace, my execution warrant was signed long ago. If they catch me, it’s over for me regardless. I’d rather spend my fleeting time here loving the most wonderful man I’ve ever met.” Ace was at a loss for words. He gazed at her, his eyes full of the most tender adoration and awe. “I love you, Yara,” he said finally. “I love you so, so much. I don’t know how I got so lucky.” “It wasn’t luck. It was you, my sweet, silly fireboy.” Her lips twitched into a teasing grin as she tapped him on the nose. “You won my heart fair and square.” Her words made Ace want to melt. “I won your heart,” he said slowly, processing the information. “Yes, you did.” “I’m going to cherish it forever.” “That would make me very happy indeed.”
Portada, my beloveds. Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi Yara, what are the three things you love most about Ace?
Tumblr media
"Ah, picking just three is so difficult, but if I had to, I'd say...
One, he's incredibly kind. Just the sweetest person. He goes out of his way to do things for others that I never would've thought of. I watched this man spend like a week crafting a giant hat for Oars Jr. just because he was concerned Oars would get too hot from being too close to the sun, or something of the like. I hadn't the heart to point out that the sun is millions of kilometres away and would likely have no greater impact on Oars than it would on us, even though he's a giant. The idea was so sweet, and from what I hear, Oars Jr. really appreciated it.
Two, he's so silly and fun. He's not afraid to be a goofball and is always the life of the party. I never have a bad time when we're out together. And he knows how to put a smile on my face like nothing else.
Three, he's devoted. Whether it's to me or to his brother or to his friends or to Pops, he puts his all into everything he does for us. I trust him with my life and my heart, to have my back in battle and to hold my hand when I'm feeling down.
Ace is so much like the sun. He's bright and all-consuming and sometimes I fear that if I look straight at him, I might melt away. I know he really struggles with his self-worth, and I wish so badly that he could see himself the way I see him: as the best thing that has ever happened to me."

Yara, would you recommend eating a devil fruit or would you say it has too many drawbacks?
Tumblr media
“As for me, I wasn’t much of a swimmer prior to eating the Tōka Tōka no Mi so I can’t say I miss it, though it can be rather annoying to have to be so mindful about not falling in the water. I ate mine in a moment of desperation, but if I were to do it all over again, I would make that same decision. Even if my fruit is basically offensively useless, I have an almost impenetrable defence, which suits me just fine as a swordswoman.”

Yara & Ace plz
💖
tysm for the prompt!! Apologies that it took awhile to complete, but here you go!! Hope you enjoy! <3
it's, uhh... slightly nsfw-ish?? mostly implied than anything
💖 rough kiss / hot and heavy / making out
It was over.
The enemy’s ship lay in ruins, bits of wood and canvas floating dead in the water; the remnants of the captured crew escorted onto lifeboats with their hands resting on their heads. From the sullen looks on their faces, they had learned their lesson about attempting to encroach on the Whitebeard Pirates’ territory.
Yara’s fingers dug into the rope ladder as she climbed up the side of the Moby Dick, anxiety twisting in her stomach.
“Yara, go!!”
“What are you doing?!” she shouted, panic laced in her voice as Ace leapt in between her and the enemy captain. “We need to get back to the ship and regroup!”
“I’ll cover your escape!” he insisted, flames leaping off his skin.
“Ace, wait--”
“Flame Fence!!”
A massive wall of fire shot up between them. Ace turned his head, gazing back at her between the flickering flames. “Go, love. I’ve got this.”
She pulled herself up onto the main deck, heart thudding in her chest. All she’d seen since leaving the island that had served as the battleground was a trail of smoke; neither hide nor hair remaining of Ace or his opponent. He was incredibly strong; she never doubted that for a second. Whitebeard hadn’t made him Second Division Commander while barely out of his rookie year for no reason. Yet still…
Her anxiousness only grew as she scanned around the deck. The enemy pirates were all gathered in the open space in front of Whitebeard’s chair. As per Whitebeard’s orders, their hands weren’t bound, but they were under the careful surveillance of Marco and Jozu. They seemed to know it too; grumbling to themselves but keeping their heads down.
Yara used her Devil Fruit powers to pass through the crowd of people gathered on the deck, drifting through their bodies with ease. Most of the Whitebeard Pirates didn’t bother looking over at her, both familiar with her abilities and too tired to care. She continued to glance around, trying to keep her pulse from racing out of control in her worry.
Then she saw it. A flash of orange, just beside the main mast. Her heart leapt, recognizing the unmistakable hat. “Ace!!”
“Hm?” His head whipped over in her direction at the sound of his name. He immediately perked up, a wide grin stretching across his freckled cheeks. “Yara!!”
Scrambling to his feet, he bolted towards her, pushing aside anyone in his path. Yara squeaked as Ace lifted her up with a laugh and twirled her around, keeping his arms firmly locked around her. As her feet hit the ground once more, he went in for the kiss, but she placed a hand over his lips.
“Why didn’t you run?” she whispered.
Ace blinked, surprised at first, but then he reached for her hand with a smile. “Because in that moment, you were behind me, sweetheart. Running would’ve put you in danger, and you know I could never do that.”
Yara swallowed, trying to suppress the hot lump that rose in her throat. “You could have died, Ace.”
His eyes widened, noticing her pained expression. “Hey, hey…” he murmured, bringing her hand to his lips. “It’s okay. I’m here, baby. I’m here.” He kissed her knuckles, then her wrist, lips pressing against her racing pulse. “Nothing’s going to happen to me, I promise.”
She collapsed into his arms, resting her cheek on his shoulder. “You really need to stop scaring me like that. One of these days, you’re going to run into an opponent you won’t be so lucky against.”
“...Heh. Can’t help it if I feel like luck’s on my side.” He grinned. “After all, I managed to get with you, didn’t I?”
“Idiot,” she mumbled, pressing a kiss to the crook of his neck. “Those aren’t the same things at all.”
Chuckling, he slid a finger under her chin, lifting her head up. Without a moment’s further hesitation, he leaned in, meeting her lips with a contented hum. Yara’s eyes fluttered shut, feeling his lips part ever so slightly, his tongue easing its way into her mouth.
“Mm.” Ace pulled away, breaking the kiss with a faint pop! “Bedroom?”
She nodded, taking his hand and allowing him to lead her towards the division commanders’ quarters.
They were back on each other as soon as he kicked the door shut, pants and breathy moans filling the small space. Her arms were around his shoulders, his hands planted firmly on her hips. Ace took the lead, carefully moving her towards the queen-sized bed that sat in the corner of the room. Yara allowed herself to collapse onto it, resting her head on a pillow.
There was a feral glint in Ace’s dark brown eyes as he removed his hat, placing it to hang off the bedpost before crawling on top of her, his arms caging her beneath him. He nudged Yara’s legs further apart with his knee, pressing himself closer to her, fingers tangling in her hair as he cupped the side of her face. Their lips met in a series of flurried actions, desperate to drink each other in. Panting, he pulled away briefly before trailing kisses from her chin down her throat.
A pleasured gasp left Yara’s lips as he nipped at the sensitive spot on the crook of her neck. Her fingernails dug into his back, legs wrapping tightly around him. Ace’s hips bucked towards her, his desire for her evident as he recaptured her mouth with his. Her hands found their way to his hair, burying her fingers in his raven locks, massaging his scalp. His teeth gently tugged at her bottom lip, and she let out a moan in response.
“Careful, sweetheart,” he murmured, breath hot against her face. “You keep making sounds like that and I won’t be able to hold back.”
The corners of her lips twitched into a smirk as she met his gaze with a determined one of her own. “And if I don’t want you to?”
“I’ll devour you.”
“Then devour me, Portgas.”
A low noise rumbled from Ace’s throat, almost like a growl. His pupils had dilated as he pushed the hem of her dress up past her waist before diving back at her lips like a man starved. One hand trailed along her thigh, a low heat from his Devil Fruit powers emanating off of it.
“Ah!” Yara gasped, her shoulder blades digging into the sheets as she arched her back, a jolt of pleasure shooting through her at the feeling of his warm fingers caressing her so tenderly.
“You like that, huh, Hellcat?” Ace breathed, coaxing her through her ecstasy. “My pretty girl. My pretty, pretty girl. ‘M so lucky.”
A high-pitched whine escaped Yara as heat pooled in her stomach. “Need you, Ace! Need--”
Knock knock!
“Hey, Ace! Yara!” Thatch called out from the other side of the door. “Pops wants you both on deck, so put your clothes back on.”
Ace let out a groan. “Oh, gimme a break.”
Yara couldn’t help but chuckle as Ace pushed himself off of her, grumbling something about burning a hole straight through the Fourth Division Commander’s favourite pair of pants next time he was on laundry duty. She shifted around, pulling her dress back over her hips as she rose to a seated position. Lifting Ace’s hat from the bedpost, she placed it onto his head. “There you are, Commander Ace. All fit for duty.”
As their eyes met, his annoyance at Thatch seemed to melt away. “Thanks. Now c’mon. You know I can’t do it without my brilliant, sexy Vice-Commander by my side.”
He offered her a hand, and she slid off the bed.
“Hey.” Ace pulled her into his arms. His fingers brushed under her chin, a warm smile lingering on his freckled face. “I love you. I mean it, Yara.”
“I know,” she replied as she draped her arms over his shoulders, leaning up to kiss the tip of his nose.
“We’ll continue this later?”
“Of course.”

some Ace/Yara/Yamato ot3 content for anyone who wanted it!
-----
Ace looked at Yamato.
Yamato looked at Ace.
Both of them looked down at the shattered remnants of the vase scattered across the floor.
“That… wasn’t her favourite vase, was it?” Yamato ventured hesitantly, knowing full well the answer to that question.
Ace swallowed. “She’s gonna kill us.”
“Well, we can fix it, right?” Yamato bent down, carefully sweeping the broken shards into a pile. He picked two of them up, brow furrowing as he tried to figure out how they could possibly fit back together.
“Maybe?” Ace attempted to do the same. “Is this part the base or the neck? I can’t tell.”
“Dunno.” After a minute, Yamato let out a sigh. “This is impossible. It’s in too many pieces and I can’t figure out what’s what.”
“Same.” Ace dropped one of the shards he was looking at onto the floor, wincing as it shattered into another four pieces. “Damn it. What’re we gonna do? There’s only one more hour before she’s gonna be back.”
“Hmm…” Yamato thought for a moment before his amber eyes lit up. “We could replace it! Maybe try to find one as close as possible to the original.”
“Do you remember where she bought it?”
“I think so. There’s a few pottery stores in the downtown area of the Flower Capital. I’m pretty sure it was one of those places.” He stood up, brushing the ceramic dust off his clothes. “I’m faster in my Zoan form. I might be able to get there before they close.”
“Good idea,” Ace agreed. He withdrew a wad of cash from his shorts pockets, handing it to his partner. “Take this. It should help cover the cost. I can clean up while you’re gone.”
Yamato nodded, tucking the cash away. “Sounds like a plan.”
Ace grinned. “Operation ‘Find a New Vase So Yara Can’t Be Mad At Us’ is a go!”
---
“I got the vase!” Yamato announced, carefully placing it on the floor in the exact same spot as the original. He beamed, proud of himself. “I described the pattern to the shopkeeper and fortunately he had one just like it.”
Smiling triumphantly, Ace raised his hand, and the two exchanged a high-five. “Looks great! We officially aren’t the worst partners of all time now.”
“What did you do with the broken pieces?”
“Swept ‘em into a trash bag and then put that bag in another bag. Then I mopped the floor, just in case.”
“Good thinking.”
From across the house, the door creaked open. Both Ace and Yamato turned towards it, excitement lighting up their faces. “She’s back!!”
“I’m home!” Yara called out, carefully closing the door behind her.
“Hi baby!!” Ace rushed over to her, wrapping his arms around her chest and peppering her cheek with kisses.
“We missed you so much!!” Yamato added, nuzzling his cheek against the top of her head as he snuggled up to her other side.
Yara laughed, enjoying the smothering affection from her partners. “What’s gotten into you two? Did something happen while I was away?”
“Nope, everything’s perfect!” Ace assured her.
“We have it aaaaaaall under control,” Yamato said with a grin.
She raised an eyebrow, but didn’t question it any further. Raising to stand on the tips of her toes, she gave Yamato a kiss first before turning to an eagerly-awaiting Ace. “I missed you both so much, too. Thank you for looking after the house. It looks spotless in here.”
“Cleaned it up just for you.” Ace stole another quick kiss before giving Yamato one as well.
Dropping her bags, Yara wandered further into the house. She stopped next to the new vase, her head tilting to one side. Ace and Yamato held their breaths as she inspected it for a moment before turning to face them again. “You even remembered to dust everything. I’m very impressed.”
Both Ace and Yamato let out nervous laughs.
“I’ll take your bags to our room,” Yamato offered, picking them up.
“I’ll help,” Ace insisted, taking a bag from Yamato. “Do you think she noticed?” he whispered as they walked towards the bedroom.
“No, I think we’re good,” Yamato whispered back. “That was a close call, though.”
“Let’s never mention this again.”
“Agreed.”
Yara, later, looking into the camera like she’s on The Office: “Yeah, I know they broke my favourite vase. The old one had a small chip at the very top and I found a tiny shard underneath the couch. But it’s sweet that they thought to replace it, so I’m not mad. Besides, it’s incredibly funny to watch them exchange nervous glances every time I mention how nice the vase looks in this room.” She laughed. “Knuckleheads, both of them. But I love them, no matter how many times they break the ‘no roughhousing in the living room’ rule. …My sweet, silly boys. What am I ever going to do with them?”

💙 + Portada!! -🍂
tysm as always for the prompts, my dear Alvita!! Apologies that this took awhile to get to, hope you enjoy! 💕
💙 drunken kiss / tipsy
Yara carefully lifted the sides of her long white dress as she ascended the stairs of the Moby Dick, reaching the upper deck. It was far quieter up here, away from the noise of the party still going strong on the summer island that the massive ship— among many others— was anchored at. She pushed a strand of hair out of her face from where it had come loose from the ornate pins that bound her long violet locks into a bun, interwoven with little silk flowers for added decoration— sakura blossoms, at Izou’s insistence; a nice little nod to her Wano heritage on this very special occasion.
As she stepped onto the deck, however, her brow furrowed. Just ahead of her, she could make out another silhouette, illuminated by the moonlight reflecting on the open ocean. Someone had apparently beaten her here. Quietly, she moved across the wooden boards, stopping about a metre away from them, her arms resting on the gunwale as she gazed out at the calm sea.
“Come here often, gorgeous?”
The sound of the smooth voice made Yara’s lips twitch upwards. “Every now and again,” she replied. “Though it’s not usually occupied.”
She could feel warm hands press against her waist, sliding sensually down to settle on her hips. Gentle kisses peppered her neck, trailing down to her collarbone.
“Just my luck, then, to run into such a beautiful woman in this place.”
“Careful,” she murmured. “My husband is nearby.”
“You have a husband?”
“Mm-hmm. Just married, too.”
“What’s he like?”
“Oh, he’s very handsome. Soft black hair, the cutest freckled cheeks…”
“Sounds like a real dreamboat.”
Yara couldn’t hold her amusement back any longer, letting out a giggle. “You’re enjoying this way too much, aren’t you?”
Ace kissed the crook of her neck again, his arms wrapping around her chest. “Can’t help myself,” he admitted.
“What are you doing alone out here, anyways?”
“Waiting for you. I know there’s only so much party you can take before you need a moment to yourself, and I thought I’d grab the opportunity to steal you away for a bit. …Look.” He grinned, detaching himself from her and bringing her attention towards two fancy glasses sitting on a barrel beside him. “I brought drinks.”
“How thoughtful,” she hummed appreciatively. “But are you sure you wouldn’t rather be at the party? You might not see Luffy again for a while.”
“Eh, Luffy understands.” Ace smiled, lifting up the glasses. As he stepped towards her, she could see that his shirt was fully unbuttoned, exposing his bare chest. The tie had come off ages ago, lost sometime in between the dancing and the cake-cutting. Anyone else might have considered it uncouth, but it was so him that Yara couldn’t find it within herself to care.
“You’re certain?”
“Yeah. Besides, I’m sure Usopp is keeping everyone entertained with the fiftieth rendition of his goldfish story.”
Yara laughed, shaking her head. “I adore your brother’s crew to bits, but those stories do get a tad repetitive after a while, I’ll admit.”
“That they do. …Here you go.” He handed her one of the glasses. “This is yours-- It’s white wine. I know champagne messes with your stomach.”
She received it from him, staring at it. “Are you sure we should be drinking any more?”
Ace shot her a lopsided grin. “Hey, it’s a special night. Our special night. I’m sure one more drink wouldn’t hurt.”
“Marco might disagree.”
“Pssh, who cares what Birdbrain thinks? It’s not his wedding.”
She let out a soft laugh. “I suppose you’re right.”
“Here.” He leaned his glass towards hers. “To us?”
“To us,” she agreed, clinking them together.
Yara tilted the glass back, downing its contents in one go. Her head buzzed as she placed the empty glass down on the gunwale, then turned to glance over at Ace, meeting his dark, sweet eyes. He was looking right at her, as if all the stars had coalesced to bask her in their heavenly light.
“What?” she asked, raising an eyebrow
“Nothing.” He grinned. “Just… admiring my gorgeous wife. …Heh. My wife. I get to call you that now.”
“You’ve been calling me your wife ever since we got engaged,” she pointed out.
“Yeah, but now it’s official official.” He held up his hand, showing off the golden band on his ring finger. “No takesies-backsies. …Unless you get sick of me in a few years and want a divorce.”
Yara couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Don’t be ridiculous. I wouldn’t have married someone I could so easily get sick of.”
Maybe it was the alcohol buzz, or the fatigue, or just the silly, lovestruck grin on Ace’s face, but all of her inhibitions suddenly faded away. Draping her arms over his shoulders for balance, she leaned forwards, pressing her lips to his. It was a slow, uncoordinated kiss, her sense of timing dulled by the multiple glasses of wine she had consumed over the course of the evening. She could taste the champagne on his lips as he kissed her back at his own unhurried pace, mouths sloppily melding together as his hand slid around her waist, then slowly moved upwards along her spine to toy with the zipper at the back of her dress.
“Ace…” she murmured, breaking the kiss and pushing his hand away.
“What?” He tried to look innocent.
“We’re still technically in public. Save it for later.”
“Aw.”

Could I pretty pretty please ask for 💗 for my beloved Portada, Hadley love? 💜
Here you go, my dear Dolly!! <3 tysm for the request; it got long af but I always underestimate how much I enjoy writing Ace Angst heheh
No direct spoilers, but written in such a way that anyone who Knows can read between the lines lol hope you enjoy!! <3
💗 slow kiss / gentle kiss / inevitable / soft
Ace hated Loguetown.
It wasn’t the shops; those were objectively fine. Maybe a bit pricey at times, but there were enough of them around that he could easily take his business elsewhere if he felt he was getting a raw deal. Nor was it the pubs (well, save for one notable exception), nor the tourists, nor even the occasional increased presence of Marines. No, what he hated about Loguetown was that he couldn’t exactly tell anyone that he hated Loguetown.
Because that would always lead to the follow-up question he really didn’t want to answer: Why?
And sure, he could lie, and blame it on pricey shops or low-quality pubs or loud, annoying tourists or having to outrun a determined Marine captain once in a while. But anyone who knew Ace knew that he didn’t have a problem with any of those things on any other island they ever visited. Which would lead him back to the infernal question of why. Why Loguetown? What could possibly be there that turned an otherwise cheerful, fun-loving guy into a broody, angry young man?
There were three people in the entirety of Whitebeard’s fleet who knew Ace’s secret. The first to find out was Deuce, his vice-captain from his Spade Pirates days and who now served on Whitebeard’s massive medical division. The masked man had learned of it back when the two had found themselves stranded on Sixis Island at the same time. Ace hadn’t admitted it so much as Deuce had sort of managed to guess it. His initial negative reaction had been what Ace always feared, but Deuce had fortunately come around shortly before luck would bestow them with the Mera Mera no Mi, and Ace had gained the powers he would become infamous for.
The second who knew was Whitebeard. What sort of ‘son’ would Ace be if he kept such a massive secret from the man he called Pops? Ace had feared the worst when the words left his lips, but Whitebeard had merely chuckled in response. “We are all children of the sea,” he had said, and Ace had felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders, if only for a moment.
And the third, of course, was Yara. His Yara; Yara who had shared her secret in turn, removing her eyepatch to reveal the most beautiful heterochromatic eyes he had ever seen-- and boy, did he want to punch anyone who had ever made her feel otherwise. He could have kissed her that night, underneath the stars, but it would take him much, much longer before he finally surrendered to a love he had no chance of ever winning against. As far as Ace was concerned, those were the three people who would ever get to know. Even his other closest friends would have to be kept in the dark. It was better that way.
All of those things floated around Ace’s mind as he returned to the small ship Whitebeard had ordered him to take for his mission. It was a simple enough task; all he had to do was meet with a supplier who had promised the Whitebeard Pirates a new supply line running from the East Blue into the Grand Line. Fairly standard pirate stuff, especially for an Emperor’s crew. Usually it would be something that First Division would handle, but Marco was away dealing with a distress call from an allied fleet who had encountered an unknown illness and required the support of a skilled doctor. So Ace, as Second Division Commander, gladly stepped up to the plate.
Until he heard that the site of his mission was fucking Loguetown. And by then, it was too late to back out.
So he had gone to Loguetown with his men, and he had hated every second of it, determinedly keeping his eyes on anything but the town square and the ghastly tourist attraction located there. He had done his best to keep up with the jokes and the good humour that he was known for, but by the end of the day, he was exhausted and absolutely determined to go somewhere he wouldn’t be reminded of that man. The navigators, however, had decided against trying to tackle Reverse Mountain in the dark, meaning that he had to wait until daybreak before he could finally be out of there. It was such a pain.
The port they were anchored in was fortunately far enough from the main town that Ace at least wasn’t confronted with too many reminders of the answer as to why he hated Loguetown so much. He could try his best to forget about it for a few hours, at least.
Or that’s what he hoped, anyways.
Sighing, he leaned against the edge of the anchored ship, staring out at the open ocean, the tiny glints of stars reflecting off the water’s calm surface. Everyone he had met in town had been so pleasant. He thought of the old lady who had given him a discount on three bags of rice to take on their journey back to the Grand Line because he was just ‘such a nice young man.’ Would she still say the same thing if she knew about the blood that flowed through his veins?
Do I deserve to be alive?
Ace had asked himself that question many times before. It was only fitting it would return to the forefront of his mind in this place, of all places. And it was all the fault of that man.
“You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?” a familiar voice spoke.
Ace sighed again. “Am I really that obvious?”
“To me, you are.” Yara perched herself on the gunwale. She was wearing the new sundress that she had purchased for herself back in town, her long violet hair swept over her shoulder in a loose ponytail. “I should’ve insisted Pops find someone else for this mission. It wasn’t fair to send you.”
“Eh, I can cope.” He tried to shrug it off. “And besides, you look gorgeous in that dress, so it was worth it in the end.”
Yara frowned. She clearly wasn’t buying it. “Alright, now tell me how you really feel.”
“I said I’m--”
“Ace. Please. Don’t bullshit me.”
He let out a heavy sigh, his gaze resting on a buoy that bobbed a few metres away from their ship. “I hate it here. Everywhere I looked, it was like he was tormenting me from beyond the grave. Him and his damn legacy.”
The look in Yara’s eyes was sympathetic as she reached out, smoothing a strand of raven hair behind his ear. She kept silent, allowing him to continue rambling.
“I know it’s bad to say, but I wish I could torch this whole place to the ground. Then maybe the world could move on.” Maybe I could finally find a shred of peace from it all.
“You know the World Government would never let that happen, Loguetown or no Loguetown.” She laughed bitterly. “They certainly love their bogeymen.”
“Yeah.” He sighed. “I know. It’s never gonna end. I’m just… cursed forever, doomed for the entire world to hate me because of him and his stupid treasure. Maybe there’s no way out, except…”
Yara gently tilted his head, bringing their eyes to meet. “Now you listen to me, Portgas D. Ace.” She cupped her hands around his face, thumbs brushing tenderly against his freckled cheeks. “You are not your father. None of his deeds are your deeds. None of his sins are your sins. Anyone who can’t see that is an idiot of the highest order, blinded by World Government propaganda or their own ignorant grudges.”
Ace blinked, feeling the conviction behind her words. Yara leaned closer to him, her breath ghosting against his face as she pressed her forehead to his. Ace’s arms wrapped protectively around her waist, his fingers tracing the zipper at the back of her dress.
“You are the most wonderful man in the world, and the best thing that has ever happened to me,” she whispered, her lips hovering only centimetres away from his. “Fuck your father. Fuck Loguetown. Fuck the world. You deserve to be alive, and you deserve to be loved.”
He swallowed, emotion gathering as a hot lump in his throat. “Yara…”
She pressed her lips to his with such adamant tenderness that it stole the air from his lungs. He kissed her back with the devotion of a prayer whispered in an empty cathedral, the softness between them melding together in slow, careful movements. Ace’s tension ebbed away, leaving him with the sensation of floating among a sea of stars, anchored to Earth only by the honeyed taste of Yara’s lips.
“I love you,” she breathed as she pulled away ever so slightly, fingers stroking the side of his face. “Never forget that.”
“You really don’t think he was a monster, huh?” he whispered.
She shook her head. “The biggest monsters in my life have all carried the World Government’s flag. I can’t see how a man who opposed that could be so evil.”
Ace stared at her for a moment before letting out a small laugh. “I can’t wait to introduce you to Luffy. I have a feeling the two of you are gonna get along great.”
Yara smiled as she slid down from the gunwale. “I’m very much looking forward to meeting your brother someday.”
“Just to warn you, he’s a handful.”
“So are you, my dearest fireboy.”
Pulling her close, Ace pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “…Thank you, Yara. I shouldn’t think too much about my old man; not when I have the perfect family right here. You, Luffy, Pops… You’re everything I could ever want.” Everything I never dreamed I could have.
“C’mon.” She offered him a hand, and he took it. “Let’s get some rest before we depart.”
Nodding in agreement, Ace allowed her to lead him towards the captain’s quarters. Soon, Loguetown would be behind him. And while he could never truly escape his bloodline, he could at least take solace in those who loved him despite it.

Part 2 of this!
❤️ first kiss / realization
Something was terribly, horribly wrong.
Ace had first noticed it at breakfast. He had stuffed his plate with as much bacon as Thatch would let him get away with and sauntered over to his usual spot, wedging himself between Yara and Marco. The First Division Commander had greeted him as per usual, but Yara didn’t even bother to glance up from the saddest bowl of oatmeal Ace had ever seen; the only garnishing on it two solitary raisins.
(He knew for a fact that she didn’t even like raisins. They reminded her too much of the crappy communion wine at the convent she grew up at, she’d told him once, scrunching her nose up in that adorable way she did whenever she found something particularly unsatisfactory.)
Throughout the rest of the day, things seemed to only get worse. She kept her gaze down and her answers monosyllabic whenever he tried to interact with her-- and that was when she didn’t outright leave the room as soon as he entered.
“Trouble in paradise, yoi?” Marco had asked him when he caught Ace moping around on the Moby Dick’s upper deck.
Ace let out a massive, depressed sigh in response, draping his arms over the gunwale. Part of him almost wished a strong gust of wind would come along and knock him into the water. “I think I did something wrong, Marco. I haven’t seen her this upset with me since before I officially joined the crew.”
The doctor placed his hand on his friend’s shoulder. “You need to talk to her about it. I’m sure whatever it is can easily be fixed. Yara may be stubborn, but she’s not unreasonable.”
“That’s… true,” Ace conceded. He stood up straight, his determination renewed. “I’ll go find her. The sooner I can sort this out, the better.”
“Good luck, yoi,” Marco said, giving him a firm pat on the back.
And that was what led him here, hanging out near the entrance to the mess hall, biding his time. There was no way that Yara could avoid him forever… could she?
“Ace.”
He instantly perked up, a relieved grin spreading across his face as he caught sight of her heading towards him, a file stuffed with papers tucked under her arm. She, however, did not return his joy, but instead stared emotionlessly back at him as she handed him the file. “Pops said to give this to you.”
He nodded, receiving it from her. “Oh, thanks! …Right, these are the maps I wanted to see.”
Yara gave him a curt nod in return before pivoting back towards the entranceway.
“Wait, where are you going?”
She stopped, turning to face him again, her eyes narrowed. “I came. I gave you the file. And now I’m leaving.”
“Yara!” Ace called out after her, dropping the file onto a nearby table. He reached for her hand, but his fingers passed straight through her. His brow furrowed, confused. Now she was using her Devil Fruit powers with him? She never did that.
“I’m not in the mood, Ace,” was all she replied, her tone icy.
His entire body wilted, heart thudding pitifully in his chest as she left the mess hall without so much as a second glance. Oh, he had definitely fucked something up.
☠-----⚔-----☠-----⚔-----☠
“Yaraaaaa…” Ace knocked on her bedroom door. “Can we talk? Please?”
He held his breath, waiting. Finally, after a moment, the latch clicked. Yara opened the door a crack. She was wearing her nightdress, her loose hair cascading down her shoulders. Ace couldn’t help but notice the dark circles lingering under her eyes as she stared at him.
Swallowing, he took a step back. “Hi.”
“It’s late, Ace.”
“I know. I couldn’t sleep.”
“Then I suppose you’ve come to let me down easy,” she said with a sigh.
His brow furrowed. “Let you down what?”
“Never mind. I shouldn’t delay the inevitable. Shall we go somewhere more private than the living quarters?”
Nodding, he allowed her to step out of her room before following her down the hallway. She led him down the stairs and outside to the second level balcony. The stars glinted overhead as the Moby Dick gently careened along its path, cutting through the ocean’s calm surface. Yara leaned against the railing, the faint breeze catching the edge of her nightdress. Just the sight of her underneath the moon’s light was enough to make Ace’s stomach twist into knots.
He sucked in a breath. There was no way he could let this go on any longer. “It’s the stupid dare thing, isn’t it? That’s why you’re upset with me.”
“I’m not upset with you,” Yara replied evenly. “I’m upset with myself.”
“What? Why?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Yes, it does. It matters a lot. Especially if I… if I did something to hurt you. Please, Yara. You’re…” He swallowed. “You’re one of my best friends. Whatever it is, I’ll make it right.”
Yara glanced away from him, a conflicted look flickering through her eyes. “I… made a foolish miscalculation,” she said after a moment. “I thought that… perhaps you might…” She hesitated. For a moment, he could’ve sworn he saw a faint blush spread across her cheeks. “That, well… That kissing me wouldn’t have been as intolerable for you as it evidently was.”
“Intolerable?” His brow furrowed. “Kissing you wouldn’t be intolerable.”
“Oh, please.” Her glare narrowed as it returned to rest on him. “You dragged your feet and then turned away at the last second. How the hell else could I possibly interpret that, Ace? From my standpoint, it was a fairly obvious rejection.”
Ace’s heart was practically beating out of his chest as the realization slowly dawned on him. “Hold on a minute. You… wanted me to kiss you?”
Yara’s nose scrunched up, her mouth drawing into a tight line like it did whenever she was frustrated by something. Finally, she turned away with a sigh. “…You’re an idiot of the most hopeless variety. Let’s just forget this ever happened.”
“Yara, wait.” He reached towards her, catching her hand. This time, her flesh stayed solid, and he curled his fingers around hers as he pulled her in.
She let out a surprised gasp as one of his hands moved to her waist, the other tenderly cupping her face. Her skin felt so soft as he lightly stroked her cheek, the butterflies that had been nesting in his stomach bursting to life.
“Last night, I really, really wanted to kiss you,” he breathed.
“Then why didn’t you?” she whispered, eyes widening as his fingers traced along the small of her back.
“Because I didn’t want our first kiss to be something either of us would regret,” he confessed. “You’re too special to me for that.”
“Ace…”
“I never thought I’d meet someone like you, Yara. Someone who just… accepted me so easily. Who didn’t care at all about my good-for-nothing father. The last thing I ever would’ve wanted is for you to think I only kissed you because Haruta dared me to, and not because I’m madly, stupidly in love with you, and I have been ever since Pops brought me onto this ship.”
Her eyes went unnaturally wide. “What?”
“Oh.” Ace blinked, his hand leaving her waist to awkwardly scratch the back of his neck. “Shoot, did I just say that out loud?”
He took her stunned silence as an affirmative. “So, uh… would it be okay if I kissed you now?”
“Please,” Yara breathed, leaning in. Their foreheads pressed lightly together, noses brushing as they revelled in each other’s warmth. His arms wrapped around her waist, the cotton fabric of her nightdress bunching between his fingers as he pulled her tight to his chest. She clung to his bare shoulders, the tips of her fingers smoothing along his collarbone, each feather-light touch setting off fireworks in his stomach.
“You’re so beautiful, Hellcat,” he murmured against her lips, feeling her breath hitch.
“Kiss me already, Fire Fist,” she whispered, the neediness in her voice sending a jolt of pleasure throughout his entire body, small flames flickering involuntarily off his skin.
He wasted no more time in closing the gap between them, lips slotting into place as if they were always meant to do so. The whole world ceased to exist around him as their mouths moved in sync, the taste of her flooding his senses, all the pent-up love he’d kept locked in his heart for so long finally flowing freely through him.
One hand slowly drifted upwards, tangling in her long violet hair as he cupped the back of her neck, pressing himself forwards to dip her down, stealing a tiny gasp of air before continuing the kiss. He could feel Yara’s lips twitch upwards, the sensation making him grin into the kiss as well.
They broke away, foreheads coming to rest against each other’s as Ace cradled Yara’s cheek in his palm. “I love you,” he admitted. “I’m sorry for not telling you sooner, and for being such an idiot last night.”
Yara laughed softly. “After that kiss, you’re definitely forgiven. And I…” Her face flushed, looking away for a moment before returning her heterochromatic gaze to meet his dark eyes. “I love you too, Portgas D. Ace. You dummy.”
“You love me too,” he repeated, unable to keep himself from grinning wildly. His heart felt as if it were on fire, burning with an intense, aching passion. I never thought I’d ever hear anyone say those words to me. I’m hardly deserving of them, yet… Yet it still feels so nice.
He slipped an arm around her waist, letting her rest her head on his shoulder as they both gazed out at the moon and stars beyond. “So… where do we go from here?”
She shrugged. “Wherever we want, I suppose. We’ll figure it out together.”
Smiling, he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “That sounds perfect.”

@Yara What's ur usual day on a pirate ship like when nothing special is going on and u are not fighting anyone?
Tumblr media
"There is always plenty to do on the Moby Dick, even when there's nothing overtly exciting going on. Mostly we receive our orders each morning from Pops, but here's a few things I tend to do on a daily basis. And yes, as vice-commander, I take care of the paperwork for Second Division. What, you thought Ace would actually bother to do it?"
Ask Yara (or any of my OCs) anything!
