North Wind | Lloyd x OC
Chapter 1: Harbinger
3.8k words
Summary: Mari is assigned a new mission. Lloyd meets someone with a familiar face.
Hey all!
Just a message: Ninjago in this story is a blend of the slow and the movie. Everything from seasons 1-12 has happened in this world, but no one knows the identities of the Ninja, except for their allies (Skylor, Dareth, etc). Because of that, everyone avoids Lloyd and his friends like the plague (that's the only similarity to the movie, actually).
As a side note, I have only watched up to season 12 (hence only those events have happened). I don't have a beta, so please excuse any typos/grammatical errors.
Hope you all enjoy!
—————————
“Do you understand what I’m asking, Mari?” The man before me spoke in a cold tone, his eyes set in a hard stare, one I was familiar with. He wasn't asking, not really.
A shiver rushed down my spine, but I was careful not to let any emotion show on my face.
I nodded, my face blank as I stared at the wall behind him. “Yes, Uncle. I understand. You won’t be disappointed.” He seemed pleased by that answer, dark eyes relaxing as he drummed his fingers against the hard, knotted wood of his desk.
“You know I expect only the best from you, my dear,” he said, his face full of warmth akin to a proud father. I fought not to scoff. It was almost scary how quick he could go from cold and unfeeling to warm and amiable. Clasping his hands in front of him, he tilted his head in dismissal.
A quick bow and I turned to silently leave the room. The sound of my footsteps was too loud, filling up the empty corridor I passed through. Once outside the building and away from any prying eyes, I let out a sigh of relief, allowing myself to breathe. My back pushed into the hard stone wall behind me, my head tilting up to look at the sky. It would be dark soon.
Meeting with my uncle was never pleasant. This time was different, though.
The same hard look, the same thinly veiled threat in his voice, but the mission. It would be the start of my freedom—at least for a while. Before I figured out how to disappear. He wanted me to move to the center of Ninjago City, assume an identity as a normal teenager, and track down the Green Ninja and his team.
Oh, and find out their identities, of course.
Pushing myself off the wall, I started making my way to my apartment, going down a new path today, as I did everytime my uncle summoned me to his criminal guild. My hood was pulled tight over my head, black hair tied in a bun as I walked down the streets inconspicuously. The outskirts of Ninjago were never the safest, but with daylight fading away, my steps sped up a little, hurrying to get home.
A few minutes later, I unlocked the door with my keys, quickly checking the layout before shutting the door and locking it. Even with an uncle who practically ran all the crime around here, in this part of town, you could never be too careful.
Thankfully, the inside of the apartment offered a cool respite from the heat outside. I flipped the kitchen light on and swung the fridge door open. My eyes glanced over the contents, settling on leftover pasta with a shrug. I entered it into the microwave, letting it heat up for a few minutes before taking it out.
Behind me, a bedroom door opened. Head whipping toward the sound, my heart plummeted into my stomach for a second, until I realized it was just my brother. My body tensed before I huffed out a sigh, giving him an exasperated look. “Oh my— Hideo, don’t scare me like that!” I chastised, before remembering something. “Shouldn’t you be at your friend’s house right now?”
He gives me a hesitant glance before rubbing his neck and looking down. “Yeah, but…” he drifted off. Looking back at me, his eyes narrowed with concern. “I heard Uncle called you in.” Uneasiness filled my limbs as I shifted my gaze away. I never liked discussing what I did for my uncle. Hideo was never involved, so it felt wrong to talk about the details with him, like it would endanger him even more. Schooling my expression, I turned back to him. “He did. It wasn’t…” I drifted off, trying to find the word, “… bad. He just gave me a mission.” I shrugged my shoulders, trying to play off the nervous tension in my body.
His eyes narrowed further at that. “What kind?” he asked. I was hesitant to tell him. My uncle had specified that this mission in particular was to remain absolutely confidential. Even without the warning, I hadn’t wanted to let Hideo know about my plan to escape until a couple days before I’d leave, thinking it best to plan everything out first before telling him.
“It’s… not important,” I hedged. Making my way to sit down at the table, I freed my hair from my ponytail, brushing a few stray strands of hair away from my face as I blew on the pasta. “Can we talk about it later?” I rested my arms on the table, propping my chin on a hand. “I’m tired.”
Hideo’s gaze seemed to soften at that, and he rubbed his eyes before replying, “Alright. I’m going to sleep. Good night.” Turning around to his bedroom door, he tossed a wave over his shoulder at me.
“Good night,” I mumbled back, stabbing my fork into the spaghetti. Thinking about the situation made me lose my appetite, but I shoveled in a few forkfuls anyway. Exhaustion suddenly washed over me. I really was tired—tired of having to obey my uncle and follow his orders, tired of fearing he’d snap one day and stop taking care of us, tired of always searching for a way to escape his control.
Finishing off the plate, I scrubbed it clean at the sink and made my way into my bedroom, wooden planks creaking under my steps. I closed the door softly and stripped off the layers of dark clothing, dressing into cool pajamas and flopping onto my bed.
For some reason, it felt like this chance at an escape felt too much like that—a chance. My eyes shut, fatigue weighing down on me. That didn’t matter, though. If there was any possibility it would work, I would take that risk. We’d spent too long under my uncle’s thumb, having to miss out on our childhoods to please him.
A familiar ache of loneliness and grief went through my heart. I missed my parents. They hadn’t always known how to best handle every situation, but they cared about us. Their sudden deaths hadn’t seemed real at the time, 11 year-old me could barely process it. Ever since then, I became closed off, only sharing any sort of thoughts or feelings with Hideo, the only one who understood.
That sent my lips into a frown. Lately we weren’t close at all, too busy with our own lives to spend time together. The various missions my uncle had sent me on for the last 3 years hadn’t helped either. I hoped that us finally leaving and starting normal lives as teenagers would help us mend our relationship.
The muffled sounds of cars driving by and people going about their nightly business soothed my muscles into relaxing. It wasn’t long before I drifted off into sleep.
———————————
The next morning, I heaved myself out of bed, groggily rubbing at my eyes. Hideo was in the entrance, getting his shoes on and shrugging on a jacket. He glanced at me while he tied his laces. “Hey,” he greeted with a nod.
Head bobbing back, I replied, “Morning.” My eyes swept over the kitchen, noting that he made eggs and left some in the pan for me. “Going to work?” I asked, making my way to a cabinet and grabbing a plate. As I put some bread in the toaster and opened the fridge, I realized that he still hadn’t answered. My head swiveled to look at him. “Hideo?”
He startled from where he was looking at his phone, fingers fumbling as he frantically stuffed it in his pocket. “Uh— yeah, I am.” The action drew my attention. I narrowed my eyes, but didn't say anything. It’s probably nothing.
“Alright,” I say, turning back to the fridge. “Have a good day.”
Humming in response, he opens the door and swings his bag over a shoulder. “See you later, Mar,” he says with a smile. The door shuts, the knob turning as Hideo makes sure it’s locked from the outside. The sound of his muffled footsteps faded as he got farther down the hall.
A yawn left my mouth, my eyes watering as I tiredly rubbed a hand down my face. I made breakfast quietly, scarfing down the food and washing my plate as my thoughts turned to the mission. My uncle had given me a week to get everything prepared and packed to move to Ninjago City. The plan was to enroll in a local high school—to keep up appearances as a teenager at age 17—and follow the ninja after whatever rescues they did in a day, unmasking their identities and reporting back to my uncle.
According to him, it was the perfect plan, because no one would suspect a teenage girl to be a criminal trying to spy on the city’s adored ninja. And if I was caught being too sneaky, I could just say that I was a fan and wanted to get close to them.
Sure, it was sort of weird—having to stalk them, and pretend it was because of an obsession—but my uncle never cared about how the jobs he sent me on would affect me. As long as I gave him satisfactory results, he was pleased.
Face set into a frown, I grabbed a duffel bag from my room, writing a list of all the supplies I’d need when I arrived in Ninjago City. While doing so, I got dressed, thinking about how I could broach the subject of leaving to Hideo. I knew he had friends here, and was happy enough, but I wanted more for us.
My phone buzzed where it lay on the mattress. A text from Hideo. After reading it, I quickly thumbed a reply.
Hideo (his excellency):
Do you want me to bring food home for dinner
Me:
Yeah, sure
You just started your shift though?
Hideo (his excellency):
I’m about to clock in, just checking first
Me:
Oh, okay. See you then
Once I sent the text, I pulled on a jacket and put on a cap, swinging the duffel over my shoulder and heading out the door to a store where I could get what I needed. I managed to catch a bus right as it pulled up to the stop, making sure my hat was snug on my head, tilted down to obscure my eyes. Around these parts, it wasn’t easy staying out of sight and being unrecognizable when your face was known by everyone as the crime lord’s niece.
It reminded me of my friend Skylor, who I had met years ago during a visit in Ninjago City, before I had started my secret career of crime. She had wit, and a sharp humor that made us fast friends, even with the rumors and whispers about her father. We still kept in touch, but we were both pretty busy most of the time. She didn’t know how similar my present was to her past. Last I heard, she was running a pretty successful noodle business.
Maybe I could ask her for a job when I got there.
Getting off the bus, I steered myself into a general store, roaming down the aisles and putting them in a shopping basket. After grabbing everything I needed, I headed to the checkout, paying for the items and stuffing them into the duffel.
The lady at the counter gave me a suspicious stare, and I tried not to pay attention to the way her lip curled when she seemed to realize who I was. Hurrying out the door, I walked to the bus stop, a frown on my lips as I fiddled with the strap of my cap.
This was another reason I desperately wanted to leave this forsaken town. My uncle’s infamous reputation only stained mine and Hideo’s, making it difficult to land respectable jobs—especially since there was speculation about who his little soldier was, who the public knew as “Tempest.”
Letting out a huff, I glanced at where a bus approached. It was less crowded than earlier, when all the morning commuters were on their way to work.
A group of teenagers in the back caught my attention. There were four of them, dressed casually, albeit colorfully—one in red, another in blue, one in black, and the other in white. They were talking animatedly, their smiles coming easy as they joked around with each other.
I realized I was staring at them when one guy—the one in red—looked my way, raising a scarred brow quizzically.
Averting my gaze, my lips set into a frown. To say I was a little envious of their friendship wouldn’t be wrong. Me and Hideo had friends before and after our parents’ death, but in the past three years I had been acting as my uncle’s lackey, we had drifted apart from our circles, the fear surrounding us as our uncle took us in chasing them away.
A pang of sadness went through my chest, but I ignored it, instead focusing on the streets the bus passed.
The four boys got up, their voices low as they chatted amongst themselves while getting off the bus. “I still don’t get why Lloyd made us come here,” the blue one said, crossing his arms. “Making us do all the work.” The name he mentioned made my gaze flicker to them.
His friend in black smacked his arm as the one in white responded. “The commissioner brought the issue up so that we could help, Jay.”
The guy wearing black spoke up next. “And he’s coming later today, so chill.”
What the one in white said sent my face into a confused frown, curiosity peaked. The commissioner? What issue? Who are these people?
The guy wearing red shushed them, sending them a narrow glare. “Guys, be quiet,” he glanced around. “Someone could be listening.” With that, we connected eyes, his filling with suspicion as mine frantically darted away.
The doors closed, their conversation fading away as the bus rode away.
I tsked, reprimanding myself for listening in. Those people clearly had some sort of business here. And it wasn’t any of my business. I had too much going on to be worried about the affairs of some random teenagers.
Though, something about them had seemed familiar. Not as if I had met them before, but something about their voices and what they were wearing made me think.
Shaking my head to clear my head, I got off at a stop near the apartment, walking the rest of the way and stepping inside the building. The apartment was quiet when I entered, everything still and just how I had left it.
I rolled my shoulders, shaking off the unease that always seemed to permeate the air around me. Setting down the duffel, I got started on packing a bag in my bedroom, going through the motions of carefully selecting some weapons and tools and placing them into a secret compartment on my luggage. I’d be taking a bus into the city, so I didn’t need to worry about any security searching bags.
There were still a few hours until Hideo would come home with dinner, so I decided to pay a visit to the library, and get some lunch after. It’d be helpful to read up on any information about Ninjago City, and the ninja too.
———————————
One thing I liked about this place was that there weren’t usually a lot of people here. In part because it was a bit tucked away, but probably also because not many people went to libraries anymore, what with technology being more innovative these days.
I didn’t mind it, though. It helped me avoid the public eye better. Heading to the history section, I pulled a few books on Ninjago City’s history off the shelves, setting them on an unoccupied table. On a nearby stand, there were a few magazines and articles about the ninja and what was known about them.
Swiping a few articles, I sat down, starting my search with the journals about the ninja. There wasn’t much substantial information about where or who they were, only the occasional theory about some celebrity being connected to them.
After scouring over other articles about them and finding nothing of use, I gave up on that part of my search. Truthfully, I wasn’t putting much effort into finding out their identities, learning just enough to quell any doubts my uncle could have.
I got up to put those articles back on the rack, choosing one of the history books to read next. As I cracked open one about Ninjago’s early history, a few voices came within earshot. They sounded familiar.
Looking up, my jaw dropped at who I saw. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I murmured under my breath, brows furrowing.
Two of the teenagers from before. A tall, buff guy in a black tank and sweats, and a lean, wiry guy wearing a cozy-looking white sweater. What were the chances? Almost no one came here, and I’ve never seen them around before. They must have just gotten here today. That aligned with what I heard from their conversation earlier on the bus.
But then someone else came in, one I didn’t recognize from before. Blonde, wearing a green sweater and some faded jeans. He caught up to them, saying something that made them laugh. This must be the “Lloyd” they mentioned. He was kind of cute, if I was being honest.
Shaking my head in slight bewilderment at that thought, I let out a sigh. Hopefully they wouldn’t see me and come over. It wouldn’t be good to get acquainted with them—they’d eventually learn about who I was and never talk to me again, anyway.
But it seemed that fate had other plans, because the one wearing white spotted me. He turned to his friends and said something, and after a bit of conferring, they made their way over to me.
I stifled a groan as they approached, instead putting on a friendly smile.
“Hello, there. We are new to town and are wondering if you could help us find Ikarashi—” His words were cut off by his friend jabbing him with his elbow. “Cole, what— Did I say something displeasing?” he asked.
“You just asked about a criminal, Zane! We’re trying to be low-profile—”
I didn’t pay attention to the rest of what they were saying, sitting there in frozen silence, paralyzed when they said his name. Ikarashi, my uncle. They were trying to find him.
Either they were somehow with the police, or they were some naive kids who wanted a chance at being thugs. Neither option was something I wanted to be involved with. My breaths came in fast as I wondered how I could leave this situation.
“Hey, are you alright?” The blonde boy spoke, his green eyes filling with worry after he shot a pointed look at his friends. They seemed to get whatever message he sent, quieting down.
Quickly collecting myself, I nodded, clearing my throat to dislodge the building tightness. “Ah, yeah, I’m okay,” I replied, a little too shakily. “It’s just— I’m not used to people starting conversations about criminals.”
Behind him, the guy in the black tank gave his friend a look that seemed to say ‘I told you so.’ The boy in green grimaced. “Sorry about that,” he apologized. “We’re just… really into criminology.” His explanation was a little hesitant, but I didn’t call it out. He reached out his hand to me, offering a gentle smile. “I’m Lloyd, by the way.”
Staring at his hand for longer than what was probably acceptable, I eventually took it, shaking it slowly, “Mari.” He nodded with a smile, pulling his hand back to gesture to his friends. “These are my friends. Cole,” he gestured to the one wearing black, “and Zane.” The one in white.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mari. I apologize for my question earlier,” Zane said, frowning.
I shook my head, waving a hand in dismissal. “No, it’s fine, I was just surprised,” I smiled reassuringly. I looked back up at them. “So, did you need help with anything besides uh… finding criminals?” My tone was slightly perplexed, brows knitting together.
The one in black—Cole, I knew their names now—coughed, eyes darting uncomfortably. “You know what, could you tell us about any good pastry stores around here?” he asked, rubbing his arm. Lloyd snickered as Zane sent him an amused glance.
I blinked. “Oh, uhm. Yeah, there’s a pretty good one around 4 blocks,” I paused to orient myself, pointing in one direction, “that way.”
Cole nodded with a hand on his chin. “Okay, great, thanks. We’ll be getting going then,” he started to say, leading his friends away from me with a polite grin. Zane was chuckling now, saying something under his breath that made Cole grimace.
Their antics made me laugh softly, reminiscing about how I used to be with my friends.
That caught Lloyd’s attention. He turned back to me, smiling. “Sorry again about them. They can be a little… weird at times, but they’re great people,” he chuckled. His green eyes were soft as he spoke, the affection he held for them clear.
Giving him a smile in return, I shook my head, saying, “It’s all good. I’ve had my fair share of weird.”
Lloyd grins at that, placing his hands in his pockets. “Well, I better go chase them down. It was nice meeting you, Mari. Hopefully I’ll see you around!” He starts moving away, giving a friendly wave as I wave back.
Watching them leave the library, I let out an amused huff. That wasn’t so bad. Maybe things were finally turning up now that life was offering an opportunity to start fresh. Sure, I wasn’t in Ninjago City yet, but maybe I could make friends when I started school.
I didn’t know if Lloyd and his friends were staying here for long, but from what I heard on the bus, it seemed like once their job was done, they’d leave. But where to? Did they live in Ninjago City? If they did, maybe I could be friends with them once I got there.
But what if they find out who I am? What I do? Would they still want to be friends with me then?
Rubbing a hand down my face, I sigh. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Mar,” I mutter. “You don’t even know if they want to be your friends.” My eyes fall to the stack of books still piled on the table. I was getting hungry, and I couldn’t muster the energy to pore over them just to find out the smallest information that could help me with the mission. I’ll just bring them home.
Luckily, I was on good terms with the librarian. A sweet old woman, she tells me she doesn’t believe in rumors, that a nice girl like me couldn’t be a vicious criminal. It always sends a pang through my heart.
Outside the library, a gentle breeze carried cool air that kissed my skin. With the soft lulls of wind, dark clouds formed in the sky. A storm was brewing.

Updog
Cole: Every time I see a post about updog I’m torn between not wanting to fall for it and wanting to help the poster complete their joke.
Vania: Okay but what’s updog?
Kai: Updog is a long sausage in a bun often served with ketchup, mustard, onions, and/or relish.
Nya: No, that’s a hotdog. An updog is when a new version or patch of an application is released.
Zane: You’re thinking of update. Updog is when you end a sentence with a rising intonation.
Misako: No, that’s uptalk. You’re thinking of the fourth-largest city in Sweden.
Jay: Surely that’s Uppsala, whereas updog is the giant spider in Harry Potter.
Pixal: That’s Aragog. Updog is a symbol conventionally used for an arbitrarily small number in analysis proofs.
Morro: You’re thinking of epsilon. Updog is an upward-moving air current.
Wu: No that’s an updraft. Updog isn’t a noun at all, it’s a verb; it basically means to chew someone out, or harshly lecture them.
Nelson: No, that’s upbraid. An updog is a small dog that likes cuddling on people’s laps.
Skylor: No, that’s a puppydog. An updog is the modern version of a henway.
Vania: What’s a henway?
Skylor: Oh, about five pounds.
Kai: GOTTEM!
Lloyd: This post pushed me down the stairs and stole my firstborn child.
Sorry for yeeting myself into the void for a bit, but anyway, I hope you liked this :>

This was really an experiment on my shading and anatomy and overlays and stuff like that, and I think it turned out really well. Anyway, on to the little story that goes with this. Enjoy!
****************************************************************
Cole swirled the amber liquid in his glass in slight disinterest. It was nice of Cyrus to host a fancy dinner party in honor of Daniella and himself getting married, but he hadn’t seen his new bride all night. The girls had dragged Daniella away to get ready, something about a surprise. Cole looked out among the sea of people and sighed.
“Is there something wrong with the party?” Cyrus Borg asked, rolling up next to Cole.
“No, everything is great,” Cole answered, quickly changing his expression to a happier one.
“But there is something bothering you,” Cyrus pushed.
“This party is amazing, and we can’t thank you enough for hosting in our honor. But I haven’t seen Daniella all night and I know it sounds silly- “
“You miss her,” Cyrus interrupted with a small smile. “It’s not silly at all. If it makes you feel any better, the girls have just arrived.”
Cole started to scan the room again, looking for Daniella and the others. He spotted PIXAL first, her silver bun reflecting the lights of the chandeliers like a runway beacon. Next to PIXAL was Nya, smiling and returning waves to others. He smiled as he watched Jay and Zane cross the sea to them. He watched Skylor make her way to Kai, who was talking to Dareth. His heart fell as he couldn’t find his wife. Where was she?
“D went to get a drink, she said she would be over her in a minute,” Lloyd said, standing by Cyrus.
“How did you-?” Cole started to ask.
“I ran into her at the door. Hold on to your drink buddy. Mr. Borg, the mayor requested to see you,” Lloyd smiled, winking at Cole as he and Cyrus walked towards the mayor.
Cole took a small sip to wet his throat and straightened his tie nervously. He directed his attention towards the bar and felt his heart skip a beat. Daniella was slowly making her way across the room towards him, politely nodding her head in greeting towards those who called out to her. Like in cartoons, Cole’s focus zoned out everything but her. Her dress was her signature lavender, with accents of silver.
After what felt like forever and a second, Daniella stopped in front of him and reached for his tie, loosening it slightly.
“You’re going to strangle yourself dear,” she murmured with a mischievous grin.
“You look amazing. No, beautiful, no…” Cole rambled.
“You married me Cole, you don’t have to be nervous anymore,” Daniella laughed, rolling her eyes.
“I can’t help it,” Cole chuckled in response. Daniella smiled as she took a small sip of her drink. She looked around at the sea of people, and Cole thought he saw her wince just a little. He could tell that she was trying to stop from listening to all these people’s thoughts. He placed a hand on the small of her back and placed a kiss on her head before leaning down.
“Cyrus made a little lounge for us if you need to take a minute,” Cole murmured into her ear.
“No, I think I can handle it. I just didn’t think there would be so many people here,” Daniella responded, taking another small sip.
“Oh please, Garmadon’s daughter got married. Everyone is here,” Kai joked, walking up with Skylor. Daniella winced again, nervously looking out into the crowd.
“I think I’m going to need another drink,” Daniella muttered, looking from the crowd to her glass. Cole snorted.
“Don’t laugh at me,” Daniella giggled, playfully swatting at him. Cole laughed more.
“You’re laughing!”
PIXAL, Zane, Nya, Jay and Lloyd slowly made they’re towards the others. They watched the newlywed’s playful banter, slowly loosing their nerves and acting like themselves. Lloyd leaned in and started to softly speak to the others.
“I really thought that she might need that room behind the bar.”
“Oh, I told you she would be okay as soon as her and Cole started on,” Nya reassured, linking arms with Jay. He smiled and patted her hand gently.
“Those two will always be there for each other,” Jay added.
“She definitely won’t need another drink though,” PIXAL added lightly.
“On my grandfather’s name, she does not,” Lloyd chuckled.

Memory Bubbles
//Hoo boy. I haven’t really posted anything in a while, but I was listening to Take on Me and was inspired to write aNgSt for @kara-is-so-ninja to cry over. It’s way longer than I though it would be, it’s a thousand words lmao. Please enjoy!//
May sat alone in the living room, her bubbles drifting around her. Each one burning and glowing brightly like the shield she could produce, they stood for the people she cared for.
In moments like this she felt alone, with the others out and about, with only Einstein to keep her company, memories floating in midair to remind her of her failures.
The doorknob turned and she panicked, tripping over her own feet and falling flat on her face before the bubbles retracted into her, and she prayed they hadn’t seen them-
“What the hell were those?!”
Too late.
May was pulled to her feet by the red ninja, his deep brown eyes furrowed in confusion.
“No seriously, what were those?” Jay called from the hallway, as Lloyd, Zane and Nya funneled into the kitchen and Cole leaned against the wall, his eyebrow raised questioningly at his best friend.
“I don’t really like talking about it,” May protested, but Nya stuck her head out from the door.
“Oh come on, we hardly ever see your powers unless you’re shielding us.”
“Yeah, and that looked really cool,” her brother added excitedly.
Sighing, as she knew the issue would never be resolved until she showed them, she nodded, and they all crowded around to see.
Taking a breath, she put out her hands to form a shield, it glowed a strong purple and pulsated from her fingertips, before shrinking down inside of her. It expanded and burst into small orbs that flew up in the air.
Around the middle were the bigger ones, the blue one that sparked and fizzled, the red, which was hot and contained a flame, the dark grey that held bits of stone, a cyan ball that flowed and roared like a waterfall, the solemn white that cooled anyone it floated near, and the green bubble that glowed gently, spinning almost.
Around them were smaller bubbles, varying in size and color, almost all burning furiously minus a few, who's light had dimmed.
"What are these things?" Cole whispered in amazement, as the blue one brushed past his finger tips.
"They're all the people I care about," May responded, smiling as she wandered through them, her hands lightly touching them as she went past.
“See here’s you guys, obviously,” she pointed to the bigger ones, grinning.
“And here’s my mom and dad, Skylor, the other Elemental Masters, Darreth...”
She moved past the other ones, naming them one by one, until she reached one that was roughly the size of a tennis ball.
“And this is Ronins.”
“Why is his so small?’ Kai laughed, admiring his own red orb.
“Because I only have a few good memories of him, I hate him most of the time.”
May tossed it back up into the air, watching it spin before returning to its orbit like a small planet.
“Who’s is this?”
May turned to the sound of Lloyd’s voice and her heart sank. He was pointing to one of the main ones, a very pale green that was mostly greyed over but still floated amung them.
The Master of Protection walked slowly over to it, placing her hands around it.
“Why is that one less bright than all the others?” Zane tilted his head, his icy blue eyes paralleling and mirroring her own.
Breathe.
“Because the person it was for is dead,” she whispered, swallowing the lump in her throat. She paused, hesitant, then looked up at them all, but directed her gaze mostly towards Nya and Lloyd.
Breathe.
“Before I do this, I wanna say I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for what?”
Breathe.
“For this.”
May tossed the bubble in the air and it expanded, forming the memories of the blond haired girl they had found, her hair pulled into a bun, and green jacket draped over the dress she wore.
Harumi.
The images faded slowly over one another, depicted from a third person point of view rather than May’s, showing the time they had spent together and the obvious affection she had for the princess.
It reached just before the storm and Lloyd and Harumi had fallen off the Bounty, and fizzled, the memories from then on had been bad ones, and the ball retracted, and floated back down to its host.
May’s eyes were watery as she looked at Lloyd, who’s expression was hard to read through the blur.
“I loved her too,” she mumbled, her hands fumbling uselessly at her sides.
“But at the same time I liked Nya, and she said she liked you, and you liked her, and then the whole Quiet One thing..”
She was breathing heavily now, regretting ever showing them, desperately trying to redeem herself.
“I thought I could fix her Lloyd, I understood her, I though I could help, you have to understand,” she pleaded, her freckled starred face glistening with salty tears.
“It fucked with my head, I should have seen it coming but..”
She choked on a sob, not even paying attention to the others anymore, it felt like she and Lloyd were the only ones in the room.
“I was blinded. I’m sorry.”
May bit her lip hard, and spared a glance at the others.
Kai looked as though someone had slapped him in the face, shocked and conflicted. Cole’s face was laced with sympathy, Jay had clamped a hand over his mouth, eyes wide. Zane just looked worried and Nya..
Nya looked betrayed.
Trying hard not to let their looks break her, May turned back to Lloyd, expecting anger, some sort of violent outburst-
He rushed forward and slammed into hug, his shoulders shaking, and May clutched him, sinking to the ground, the accursed bubbles pulling back in and dissapearing.
“I’m sorry,” Lloyd bawled into her shirt, sniffing and wiping his snot on his sleeve.
“I didn’t know, I didn’t know.”
May rocked slowly, soothing him but not attempting to repress his venting.
“It’s alright,” she consoled, wiping her own tears with her hand.
They were just broken children after all.

The Elemental Experiments (A crappy fanfic I'm writing on FanFiction.Net)~ Chapter 1
Tick tick tick tick...
All the students stared intensely at the clock, as if it was a ticking time bomb ready to explode once the period was over. As the teacher spoke and no one listened, all watched the minute hand slowly making it's way to the 6 while the hour hand was moving in between the 2 and the 3. Once the hand touched the 6, the bell rang. The room then erupted in talking and shuffling of papers and other supplies.
"Alright kiddos, remember to read pages 208 to 214 and answer the Section Assessment questions. These are due as soon as you walk into the door." Mr. L told the students, triggering a chorus of complaints and groans.
One student with blonde, slicked back hair and vibrant icy blue eyes shook his head as his classmates complained as if Mr. L gave them a 20 page report they had to do by tomorrow, not just seven textbook pages and five easy questions asking about minerals where the answers could be found in the text.
All the students flooded out into the hallway, rushing to their lockers with the eagerness to head home. As the blonde teen exited the room, two of his friends came strolling, or rolling in one's case, up to him.
"Hey Zane!" The caramel brown haired boy exclaimed as he rolled by on his new blue heelys that he got himself for Christmas.
"Greetings Jay and Cole." Zane responded, his thin lips forming a small smiled as he examined the two boys. Both were very sweaty because they just got back from gym, and Cole had his now longer hair in a bun and was already carrying his stuff since he stayed after for football. Jay on the other hand, even though he was clearly either too tired or lazy to change out of his gym clothes, but still had enough energy to act like his usual energetic self.
"Alright, heelys squad! Let's go!" Jay shouted, rolling away from Zane and Cole. Cole shook his head and followed Jay with Zane right behind. They both shook their head as some older students noticed Jay rolling through the hallway and soon glare at the other two.
"Oh come on guys! Don't put those heelys to waste!" Jay exclaimed before reaching his locker. Both Zane and Cole promised to at least wear the white and black heelys Jay bought for them, but neither of them ever took part of Jay's "Heely squad" during school hours,
"Woah, Jay, no need to embarrass yourself in front of the seniors... being a freshmen is bad enough." a spikey, brown haired teen with a red hoodie, who just reached Jay's locker, told Jay. His brown eyes hidden behind the black lenses of his sunglasses. Jay rolled his eyes as he and Zane opened their lockers and gathered their stuff.
"Oh shut the eff up Kai. I don't care what the seniors think of me, especially now. All I need to worry about is that damn Bio test coming up..." Jay started to trail off in the end. One thing most freshmen worried about was the upcoming Biology, or Living Environment, tests.
"Oh well, that's your problem... except the Bio part. Ugh, why couldn't I be in honors classes last year... lucky you Zane." Kai grumbled, tugging at his red backpack. Out of the group of friends, Zane had high enough grades to be in Biology in 8th grade, even though Jay was also qualified. Instead, Jay got put into the other honors course. Earth Science, which Zane had to take this year.
"Oh well. Any whoooooo, you guys wanna come over to my parents summer house? I need help setting up that halloween party for this Friday." Kai asked the other three. Unfortunately, all of them shook their heads.
"Got Football practice, then my dad is dragging me to dance classes."
"Nah fam, I need to study for Bio and got a book re- I mean, "literature analysis" for language arts."
"Sorry Kai, I wish I could... however, my father is actually going to be home for once. Echo wants me to spend time with them."
Kai let out a sigh and shrugged.
"Okay, totally understand. Maybe Lloyd or Skylor are free tonight..." Kai responded, before walking away. Jay then cleared his throat and said "Don't have too much fun Kai."
"With which one though?" Kai winked before disappearing into the crowd. Jay chuckled and shook his head as he closed his locker.
"Well, see you guys tomorrow. Zane, tell Dr. J and lil' Echo I said hi. Cole, have fun at practice and acting like a ballerina. Heelys squad OUT!" Jay said before rolling away, also disappearing into the crowd. Cole did a little face palm before walking the other direction to the gym.
"Bye Zane. Also tell Dr. Julien and Echo I said hi." Cole said and quickly waved goodbye before disappearing as well, leaving Zane alone. Zane shot Cole one last smile and then found his way outside. He headed towards the bike rack, grabbed his old white bike, and quickly made his way to the nearby middle school. He put his bike onto the bike rack and jogged over to the car loop. He searched through the few children until he found his copper brown haired brother in the crowd. Unfortunately, after many times of trying to get his brother's attention by waving at him, Zane soon resorted to yelling his name.
"Echo Julien!" Immediately, Echo turned towards him and sprinted through all the kids until he reached Zane, wrapping his arms around his thin waist.
"Big brother! I thought you forgot about me! You were 25 minutes later than usual..." Zane grabbed out his phone to check the time. Echo was right, he was super late this time. Probably standing around while Jay and Kai talked wasn't the best idea...
"Oh... um... sorry about that..." Zane rubbed the back of his head as Echo giggled.
"It's fine. Let's head home. Hopefully mean old Stepmother isn't home today..." Zane smiled as he lead Echo to the bike rack and Echo hopped onto Zane's bike, his arms around Zane's waist.
"Yeah... hopefully not..." Zane responded before he started pedaling towards home. Both boys didn't enjoy the woman their father decided to marry after Echo was born. Once Echo was born, their mother unfortunately died in child birth. Their father thought they still needed a mother figure to help out, especially since Dr. Julien would be at work until late at night. However, the woman he chose to marry, Elizabeth Snow, drives the boys insane.
Luckily, when the two reached the driveway, their stepmother's car was not present.
'Oh hallelujah...' both of them thought as they went inside the house. The house wasn't much, but it had just enough for the whole family. When they walked in, the smell of tea filled the whole house. Yep, their father was definitely home.
"Father!" Echo squealed as Dr. Julien exited the kitchen with a cup of tea in hand. The young Julien ran over to Dr. Julien and hugged him as tight as he could. A huge smile appeared on the older man's face as he hugged his son back, but only with one arm. Echo then soon let go of Dr. Julien and dragged Zane into a big group hug. Their father began to laugh as he held his sons close to him. After a minute, they soon released and questions began to flood out of his mouth.
"So, did you discover anything new? Any new inventions? Did anything explode? What project are you and Borg working on now? Are the coffee machines fixed yet? Did anyone d-" Zane covered Echo's mouth before he could finish the last question. Dr. Julien started to chuckled.
"Oh you are so precious. But, I can't release any information about my projects yet." Dr. Julien said, booping Echo on the nose. The soon to be 12 year old tried to use his puppy eye strategy, but it had no effect on Dr. Julien.
"Well, no more talk about the lab. It's family time." Dr. Julien told the two boys, picking up Echo and carrying him to the dining room table where a game of clue was set up. Then, from there, the three played a couple rounds of clue until they heard a car pulling into the drive way. When the headlights shone through the front window, Zane and Echo scrambled to their rooms and worked on their homework while Dr. Julien quickly cleaned up the game before his wife opened the front door.
"Hello honey." The two overheard Dr. Julien say quickly to Elizabeth as she set her bag down on the now cleared dining room table. Soon enough, the parent's voices became muffled and quieter so Echo nor Zane could hear what they are now arguing about this time.
Both sigh as Echo goes into Zane's room and works in there until Dr. Julien came in, a frown on his face. He sighed before telling Echo to leave for a second so he can speak to Zane alone. Zane and Echo exchanged confused looks before Echo obeyed, closing the door right behind him. Many questions raced through the blonde's mind. Usually his father did this after his stepmother told him something about Zane.
"Son..." Zane was ready to hear it. All this school year, he has been avoiding home. He knows he's strange and doesn't fit in, nothing Dr. Julien could say could change other's opinions. Everyone thinks he's depressed. Everyone makes fun of him. What could Dr. Julien try to tell Zane about this time?
"You care about Echo... correct?" Zane's heart skipped a beat. Such a strange question...
He nodded slowly. Dr. Julien grabbed out a small leather journal and stared intensely at it, like the students in Zane's Earth Science class at the end of the day.
"Zane... promise to me... if I'm ever gone, make sure you are always there for Echo. Keep him safe, and always be careful. And..." He pointed at the cover of the journal.
"Find this journal. No matter what happens. Echo and this journal should be your first priority..." Dr. Julien tells him with a stern voice. Zane can clearly see the fear in his eyes, yet his whole face was not showing any clear emotions from what he could observe. His stomach felt like it was in a knot, his mind was spinning as it tried to figure out the reason for this conversation. Although, Zane just nodded and acted like he understood. Then, Dr. Julien put the journal back from where he got it and left the room. Fear and confusion filled Zane's body as he went back to his homework. His brain was trying to wrap around what he was talking about.
These thoughts continued to swarm in his mind even when he decided to try to go to sleep.
"Find this journal. No matter what happens. Echo and this journal should be your first priority..."
'Why? What will happen?'
A/N: Well then... why am I even posting it here??? Hopefully you like it. Btw, this is more of an alternate universe, so things will not exactly be like in the show. Also, I made Zane and Echo human, so yeah. Hope you all like it.

Silver and Gold 4--Not Just a Tournament
Chapter 7--Something Forming in the Deep
Summary
Fractured once, then fractured again. Four of the heroes of Ninjago have hung up their ninja gear and vainly started anew. And they’ve convinced themselves that they’re not going back.
But as Lloyd and Janet try to piece their team back together, a mysterious invitation to a massive tournament tells them that Zane is alive.
Bonds will be tested. Suspicions of everything they know and don’t know will arise. It all goes down at the Tournament of Elements.
(First chapter)
Cole’s POV
Below me, Des merely flipped over to Kai’s balcony right before Lloyd and I landed on the rail. Why am I not surprised they’re neighbors?
Kai let us in just as Janet dropped in, and I couldn’t believe his room! He has a normal bed! And typical Kai just has to have a lavafall.
“Yup. This has him written all over it. Literally,” Des said as she looked at the picture of Kai.
“Ugh. That’s it. His room’s better than mine!” I summed up. “And look at these!” I gestured to the confections on the small table. “I don’t have these!”
“What’s wrong with your room?” Janet asked, leaning against the dresser behind me.
“Oh nothing, nothing . . . except for a stone hard bed!”
“That’s it?”
“I mean that literally!”
“Sooo I’m guessing you don’t have silk sheets,” Des said wryly.
“Absolutely not!”
Kai suddenly slipped inside and slammed his door shut.
“Where’s Jay?” Des asked, and he poked his head back outside.
“Oh okay, heh! Good night, heh heh!” He closed the door again with raised shoulders, and we all exchanged looks. A couple seconds went by before he went back outside.
“You just had to leave me hangin’, huh, Romeo?” Jay retorted, and he and Kai finally came inside. “Woah-ho-ho-ho! Nice digs!”
“I know!” I complained. “His room is so much nicer than mine! Look. Chocolate-covered shell peas! I love these!” After eating a couple I leapt onto Kai’s bed with the peas. “Ohh and look how soft your pillows are!”
“They can’t be that soft,” Des said.
“Try them out!”
With a smirk she jumped onto the bed. “Ooh you’re right! They are soft, almost as soft as mine.”
“Man, mine are made of rock! What a croc.”
“Okay, it was almost impossible to get here,” Jay said. “This place is swarming with guards! Any ideas on how we search the island?”
“We travel by shadow,” Kai answered. “Cover every square inch of this place until we find him.”
My hand brushed up against the wall, and the next thing I knew, Des and I were seeing nothing but black. Instinctively I grappled onto the sheets and Des’s hand to keep us from falling.
“What did you do?” she interrogated.
“How am I supposed to know?!”
“Well whatever you did, undo it.”
“You try and do something! My hands are occupied!”
Looking around, she randomly kicked to the right, and we miraculously flipped back into Kai’s room. “That was lucky.” A few seconds went by before we looked to each other in realization.
“Uh, guys? This bed is uh—”
“Cole! I get it! You like my bed!” Kai barked. “Will you stop playing around?”
“He just found something!” Des argued.
“Like what, exactly?” Janet asked.
“I think I know how we can search the island,” I said. “Hop on, guys!”
The others exchanged looks.
“Just get on,” Des said. We all crowded onto the bed and laid there for a few moments.
“Okay, I feel ridiculous,” Lloyd admitted.
“Took the words right out of mouth,” Janet said.
Jay sighed. “You’re right. The pillows are soft!”
“Is this a joke?” Lloyd asked.
“I must’ve done something to trigger it,” I said. “I was laying here, then I stretched—”
Click!
The bed flipped over a few times before stopping above the same pit of darkness, and we all gasped as we hung from the bed. Well, most of us did. Kai was hanging on to my foot and Des was holding Janet’s wrist.
“Secret passageway!” Jay gushed. “Cool!”
Kai produced a flame for light. “Nice work, Cole. Maybe Zane’s not on the island, but in it.”
Suddenly we heard grunting from another direction, and it seemed to be really close by.
“Quiet! Do you hear that?” Lloyd whispered. Above us were two tiny holes streaming with light.
“Oh! Secret peepholes!” Jay beamed. “Ha hah, super cool!” He scaled the wall to reach the peepholes. “Sounds like someone’s fighting on the other side of this wall.”
“Whaddya see? Who’s fighting?” I asked.
“It’s not a fight. It’s Skylor’s room. And it looks like she’s training.”
“Lemme see, lemme see!” Kai zipped up the wall to get a look.
“Seriously?” Janet criticized.
“Ohhh, looks like Kai’s got the hots for her,” I teased.
“No, she’s competition!” Kai protested. “I just wanna know what powers we’re up against.”
“Ugh, wait your turn!” Jay scoffed.
“We can at least share!”
Janet just face palmed at their antics while Des looked to the roof in annoyance.
“Guys! This is an invasion of privacy!” Lloyd scolded.
“Her room doesn’t reveal anything about her power,” Kai said disappointedly. Suddenly the duo gasped.
“What was it? What did you see?” I begged.
“She’s . . . fire.”
“Wait a minute,” Lloyd started. “If we’re all descendants of elemental masters . . .”
I started teasing him. “Kai’s heart is on fiiire! Kai’s heart is on fiiire! Kai’s heart is on fiiire!”
“Can we please just keep moving?” Kai spat.
“Finally!” Des retorted, throwing her arms up.
“Ooh-hoo-hoo! Looks like someone’s a little jealous!” I joked.
With a growl she doused me with water.
“Hey!”
“Let’s just find Zane and get out of here.” She stormed off behind Kai, and the rest of us exchanged looks before moving on. I, on the other hand, have found the shell peas, and I’m enjoying every one of them.
As we walked, Kai and Des kept stealing side glances at each other before he ultimately turned his head away in embarrassment. As much as I like getting on their nerves, those two need to talk things out if this gets messy.
“It’s like a maze down here,” Kai finally said. “Good thing you’re leaving a trail back to our room.”
“I’m what?” Behind me was a trail of shell peas. “Oh! Yeah, heh. I meant to do that.”
“And a trail of water,” Janet added.
“Yeah. And that . . .”
Coming across a shaft, we all climbed down as we ventured deeper into the passageways. Glancing over my shoulder, Des had her arms folded and was tapping her fingers against them. Occasionally her eyes flickered to Kai. After looking to him and her, I fell into step with her.
“. . . You uh, gonna talk to him?”
“Me?” Des asked. “No. I mean . . . of course I’m gonna talk to him, but now’s not the time. We both have other things to focus on, like finding Zane.”
“Can’t be too hard. You’re neighbors.”
“It’s a delicate situation, Cole. I can’t just waltz up to him and talk about it.”
I glanced over to the others, who were unaware of our conversation. “Look. I don’t want you two to have a similar problem to what Jay and I had about Nya.”
“Had?”
“Okay. We s-still have that problem. But my point is, try to find the time to talk to him. Even though things are getting crazy here, just do it. You’ll thank me later.”
She stayed quiet, and her fingers drifted to her pin. “I’ll think about it.”
“Heh. Don’t think about it for too long.”
She shot me a look.
“All right, that was bad. But hey! If they’re related then you won’t have anything to worry about.”
“Maybe . . .” Man. I wish I could take my own advice . . .
Eventually we came across a stone tunnel, which meant that we were actually making some kind of progress.
“Everyone stop!” Lloyd grabbed Kai’s shoulder and gestured to the trip wire. “Booby traps.”
“Ho ho! Booby traps!” Jay said. “Even cooler, ha hah!”
Lloyd gave his a stern look.
“Or I mean, kinda cool. I mean they’re totally not cool. Y’know ‘cause they’re dangerous.”
“From here on out we have to watch our step.”
“Do you hear that?” Kai asked. “Everyone, be quiet.”
We all fell silent, and we could pick out some form of chanting far ahead of us.
“Where's it coming from?” Des asked.
“Only one way to find out,” Janet replied.
Carefully we made our way further into the tunnel. I wonder if any of Chen’s goons have ever accidentally triggered any of these traps . . .
Footsteps from another part of the tunnel stopped us in our tracks, and we hid behind a boulder. Four of Master Chen’s thugs walked by heading for the source of the chanting. Shortly afterwards, several more followed behind.
“Psst.” Lloyd gestured to the incoming guards, and unanimously we all pulled them aside to knock ‘em out. “Hope you don’t mind if we borrow these.”
We slipped the armor over our suits and put on the snake skulls they had.
“Huh. Good thing we have short hair,” Des said.
“Oh speak for yourself, Destiny!” Janet hissed, pulling her hair back in a tight bun.
“Something doesn’t feel right,” Jay said, unsure. “We got the armor, the hats; what are we missing?”
Lloyd looked down at the unconscious guards in thought. Then his eyes fell onto me, and I stopped mid-bite.
“What?”
Jay’s POV
So here we were in the heart of the action in plain sight. In front of us was a horde of guards all chanting as they stood in front of Clouse. A giant stone statue of a Serpentine head loomed over us, and torches lit the room entirely.
“Stop licking your tattoos!” Kai scolded in a hushed tone.
“It’s chocolate! I can’t resist,” Cole protested quietly.
“Shh! Just try to fit in,” Lloyd said. Hah! I’m already doing that!
As the rest of us tried “chanting,” I could barely see someone up ahead walking toward the assembled group with some kind of glowing staff. With one pound at the ground everyone dropped to the floor, and we hastily did the same seconds later.
“Bring out the loser!” Chen ordered. Two men came in dragging a struggling metal Karlof to the front.
“Get hands off Karlof! Karlof wish he never signed up for this!” He was thrown at the feet of Chen, and he had no choice but to look up. “What is chanting for?”
“They’re saying ‘Only one can remain.’ ”
“He really likes that phrase, doesn’t he?” Des whispered.
“No kidding,” Cole commented.
“Like I said, ‘Use it or lose it’!” Chen quoted.
The same two guards held Karlof back by the arms, and Chen fired his staff at him. An ice-like mist seeped into Karlof before retreating back into the staff, bringing a gray mist with it. Karlof’s metal skin was gone, and he dropped face first onto the ground like he was drained of energy.
“He’s stolen Karlof’s power!” Kai realized.
“And he used ice,” Cole added. “That means he must’ve already stolen Zane’s power, too!”
