Unveiling the Talent: Exploring the Phenomenon of White Rappers
Tumblr media
In the vibrant tapestry of hip-hop, there exists a subset of artists whose backgrounds diverge from the conventional narrative of the genre. These artists, often referred to as white rappers," bring their own unique flavor to the table, challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers with their lyrical prowess. Join me as we delve into the world of white rappers, exploring their rise to prominence and the impact they've had on the hip-hop landscape.
Beyond Stereotypes: Redefining the Image of White Rappers
Breaking the Mold
In a genre historically dominated by African-American artists, white rappers have faced their fair share of scrutiny and skepticism. Yet, despite the odds stacked against them, these artists have managed to carve out a niche for themselves, proving that talent knows no bounds. From the gritty streets of Detroit to the suburban enclaves of Los Angeles, white rappers have emerged from all corners of the globe, each bringing their own unique perspective to the table.
Challenging Preconceptions
One of the most significant contributions of white rappers to the hip-hop landscape has been their ability to challenge stereotypes and preconceptions about race and identity. Through their music, these artists have offered a fresh perspective on issues such as privilege, discrimination, and cultural appropriation, sparking important conversations within the hip-hop community and beyond.
The Pioneers: Trailblazers of White Rap
Eminem
No discussion of white rappers would be complete without mentioning the one and only Eminem. Hailing from the mean streets of Detroit, Eminem burst onto the scene in the late 90s with his groundbreaking album, "The Slim Shady LP." With his lightning-fast delivery and razor-sharp wit, Eminem quickly established himself as one of the most formidable lyricists in the game, earning critical acclaim and commercial success in equal measure.
Beastie Boys
Before Eminem, there were the Beastie Boys—the original white rap pioneers. Hailing from New York City, the Beastie Boys rose to prominence in the 1980s with their eclectic blend of punk rock and hip-hop. Tracks like "Fight for Your Right" and "Sabotage" not only topped the charts but also helped to break down racial barriers in the music industry, paving the way for future generations of white rappers.
The New Wave: Modern-Day White Rappers
Machine Gun Kelly
With his rebellious spirit and unapologetic attitude, Machine Gun Kelly has emerged as one of the most exciting voices in modern hip-hop. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Machine Gun Kelly burst onto the scene in the early 2010s with his electrifying mixtapes and high-energy performances. Tracks like "Wild Boy" and "Bad Things" showcase his versatility as an artist, blending rap, rock, and pop influences to create a sound that's uniquely his own.
Post Malone
While Post Malone may not fit the traditional image of a rapper, there's no denying his impact on the genre. With his melodic flow and genre-bending sound, Post Malone has captivated audiences around the world, earning accolades and awards for his chart-topping hits. From "White Iverson" to "Rockstar," Post Malone's music defies categorization, transcending boundaries and bringing people together in celebration of good vibes and great tunes.
Conclusion: Embracing Diversity in Hip-Hop
In a genre as diverse and dynamic as hip-hop, there's room for artists of all backgrounds and identities to thrive. While white rappers may have faced challenges and obstacles along the way, their contributions to the culture cannot be denied. From the pioneers who paved the way to the modern-day trailblazers who continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, white rappers have left an indelible mark on the hip-hop landscape, enriching the genre with their unique perspectives and experiences.
youtube
So the next time you find yourself nodding your head to the beat of a white rapper's track, take a moment to appreciate the artistry and talent that went into creating it. After all, in the world of hip-hop, diversity is not just a buzzword—it's a celebration of the rich tapestry of human experience, woven together by the universal language of music.

BIO
though her parents worked long hours, there was no lack of love in the houston household. it never really bothered malika growing up, besides there was always the company of her siblings. to this day, she credits her parents for the work ethic she has today. a daddy's girl from the day she was born. and a mother who always encouraged her to pursue her passions. from a young age, malika was taught the manners of a southern lady. like most southern girls she did pageants, but could also be found playing outside in the dirt with the boys.
as a kid, she was put into dance classes as an way to channel all the energy she had into something productive and fun. ever since then, malika fell in love with dance and hasn't looked back. she's studied many different styles of dance over the years - jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, and even some ballet. it wasn't long before she traded the pageants for dance competitions.
the first move to atlanta happened when she was eight years old. it took a little time to adjust but it wasn't bad. malika was a pretty easy going kid, could get along with most people. dance helped her to make new friends. six years later, the houston's packed up and moved again. this time to ohio when she was thirteen. it was a bit more difficult for her to leave her friends and the life she knew. she didn't want to go and made that known with pre-teen dramatics. throughout every big change in her life, dance was the one thing that was constant. and family.
after graduating high school, malika attended julliard. an accomplishment she had only dreamed of for so many years that had become a reality. moving to new york was the first major life decision she experienced on her own. it was the last time she moved, and she wasn't planning on doing so again. once she finished college, she settled in queens where she was a dance teacher, she taught young kids and the older teens as well. she auditioned and did a couple tours as a back up dancer for various singers here and there. it wasn't until she was hired to choreograph a music video for a huge artist that her name really started to be known and sought after. with the money earned from several high profile jobs, she now lives on the upper east side. she still enjoys teaching, although it's became more on the side than when she first started. one of her goals is to open her own studio someday.
upon first meeting, malika can sometimes come off a bit distant. she's always been that way with each move during her childhood. it just takes her some time to warm up to new people. she doesn't open up to just anybody. but once she does let you in, she's a great friend to have in your corner. she is dedicated to her craft, but also loves to have a good time with friends. she worked hard to get where she is, after all. damn if she won't enjoy it. she's close with her family, especially her older brother. while she is doing quite well for herself, she is happy to be able to do what she loves without being super famous to the general public. it grants her privacy and a sense of normalcy a bit more than that of some of her peers.

@deep-space-titst agged me to share 5 songs I've been listening to of late and I can never say no to an opportunity to plug my favorite artists. So heeeeerrrrrreeeee we go.
First up is one of my favorite genres of song writing. Let's call the genre Fuck the Police.
I love SAULT, they have such a unique sound blending funk, jazz, soul, punk, and hip hop. They’re an incredibly tight band and the lyrics are always brilliant. ACAB!!!!!
Next up is song from one of my favorite artists, Mykki Blanco, fresh off their latest album.
I've have been listening to Mykki for a long time now and it's been so cool seeing their music and persona evolve over the years. I've always loved her music but I'm absolutely in love with this current era of Mykki Blanco. Can't wait to see what he does next.
My third song is an oldie but goodie.
This is my current go to track for one of my all time favorite activities: Smoking a fat joint and going for a walkabout in the city while listening to music. 'Nuff said.
At number four we've got one the the latest singles from one of my all time favorite punk bands, HIRS COLLECTIVE.
If you're trans and love punk music you've almost certainly listened to G/L/O/S/S (if you haven't heard of them Slap yourself in the face rn and go listen to 'em). G/L/O/S/S disbanded but HIRS Collective is their spiritual successor; in fact Sadie Switchblade herself has collaborated with HIRS more than a few times. This single is from their upcoming album and I can not fucking wait for the whole album to drop. Every song they've realeased so far has been an absolute banger (I especially love XOXOXOXOXOX featuring one of my other favorite bands, MELT BANANA). They collaborate with a lots of other queer and trans artists including Laura Jane Grace and the collaborations are always super interesting. It goes without saying that trans folks don't have it easy, the world is rather unkind to us; whenever I'm at the end of my rope with the transphobia I have to deal with or when my heart breaks at seeing other trans folks, especially those I know and love, suffering I turn to to HIRS COLLECTIVE because sometimes you need the catharsis of a primal scream set to some blast beats so fierce and heavy they'll blow your tits clean off.
And last but certainly not least is a track from an artist very near and dear to my heart, who has not received the accolades she deserves. I'm kinda always listening to Jordana (FKA 187) and it's hard to choose just one song of hers.
Jordana LeSense is, imho, the greatest drum and bass artist of all time and most people have never heard of her. I believe her immense talent has been overlooked because she's a trans woman. She walked so Juliana Huxtable, SOPHIE, Eris Drew, Octa Octa, Jessica Jess, and Tami T (It's my duty to sneak in some plugs for more trans artists) could run. Jordana use to go by the moniker 187, a name she earned for blowing out her friend's speaker making her hard and heavy beats. Jordana is a true trans legend and a personal hero of mine. Her music definitely speaks to the trans experience. When she was only 13 she began her medical transition in total secrecy, an experience that I am certain informed the song Deep Stealth. She announced her tranistion in 1998, around the time she released her second Album, Quality Rolls. With the release of that album she was set to become an icon of the drum and bass scene. Tragically, while on tour in Ohio in 2000, she was victim of a violent hate crime at the hands of two men, who were never convicted because The Pigs never charged them, and she suffered a traumatic brain injury that caused nerve damage to her face. She stopped making music for a very long time after that.
BUT she's back! No longer going by the 187 moniker Jordana is back and making music. Please go check out her bandcamp, show her some love and buy some music.
Here's her soundcloud
Jordana hasn't released any new albums recently, that I know of anyway, but she still does live performances and if you follow her on IG or twitter she lists her performance dates there and you might be able to catch her!
My greatest wish is for people, trans folks especially, to rediscover Jordana’s music and lavish her with the attention she deserves.
OK I tag my wife @bandyriddles, @dissonant-skies, @basicallymsfrizzle, @zephy-n-ky, and @rynejoslyn

has never read a book in his life, ever. is proud of that fact.
except for comic books, which he’s read a bunch of.
says he’d be a comic book artist if he wasn’t so lazy and his drawings didn’t suck. used to draw decent but has since forgot.

wake bake skate by fidlar might as well be his theme song

* (colson baker, 28, male) you’re looking for TYSON DOBBS? last i knew they live in LAKEWOOD DRIVE. i heard they can be both BOLD and LOYAL, but still SHORT TEMPERED and CONFRONTATIONAL. You know they kinda remind me of THE SMELL OF CANNABIS, EMPTY DINERS AT NIGHT & OVERFLOWING ASHTRAYS. better hurry, before HE has to head to work as a TATTOO ARTIST at INKPHORIC // DRUG DEALER.
Tumblr media
tw: parental death, alcoholism, drugs, gangs, violence, etc.
— d.o.b. november 18, 1993 (has a scorpio stellium, he’s basically Scorpio Man)
— born in michigan but raised all over. ohio on his dad’s side, texas from his mom’s side, a certified 100% dennis the menace.
BACKSTORY
— when tyson was born, his dad was famous. if you knew your rock music, you knew THE Johnny Dobbs, lead singer of the band Whipplash.
— he and his parents johnny and angela lived in a big ass mansion in Los Angeles’ pacific palisades with an ocean view.
— on any given day you could find band members from bon jovi, aerosmith, or other big names hanging at the mansion by the massive pool or cooking up a bbq. life was good.
— but by ’95, hair metal was fully phased out and not ‘cool’ anymore compared to grunge. Whipplash lost their label’s backing, then Johnny lost the house.
— that hit johnny hard and he took to drinking. they moved the family to texas first (corpus christi) and then to niles.
— his dad died of acute alcohol intoxication when Tyson was 8. he took it hard, despite his mother doing his best to be there for him. a shitty boyfriend named cliff, who soon became his stepdad, entered the scene.
— tyson and cliff fought so much that cliff gave angela an ultimatum: me or him. tyson was 15 and refused to budge. he barely attended school and got by dealing.
— his mom left Tyson in the care of a trusted neighbor and moved out. she visited frequently, but ty stopped caring and eventually told her to stop visiting.
— he was expelled at 17 (drug bust, a classmate ratted on him).
— left niles for a couple of years when he was 20, hit the road to see what was out there but eventually came back. lowkey because of his mom, who now lives in a fancy house in Oak Park, still with cliff and two kids of their own (Audrey and Mason).
— started up as a an apprentice in a tattoo shop when he was 23, now works as one of their main artists.
— he’s not the most principled of tattoo artists, so take from that what you will. has def shut shop after hours to screw a client because she was pretty.
CURRENT TIME
— up until about a week ago, he skipped town with @smithsasha. he owed money to a drug ring he stole from when he was 20, and they came to collect. he went on the run.
— they threatened to harm his mom if he didn’t come back, so their big road trip to move down south was cut short and they had to return.
— took up his spot at Inkphoric again, now dealing and moving drugs in his spare time. it’s dangerous, not the kind of thing he wants to be doing at all, but the drug ring has him in their pocket.
— he’s not happy about all of this. naturally.
HEADCANONS ETC
— never not: smoking weed, or just smoking. drugs, drink, also a yes. literally anything goes to plug the hole in his heart, drugs, sex, occasionally petty crime. the full stereotype.
— known to drop in at the velvet box. friendly with the girls. up until recently, frequented scott’s motel too where he was a regular of one faye.
— his pride and joy is his ‘72 Chevy Chevelle. he likes it more than most people.
— big lover of hip hop but also classic punk shit like misfits, bad brains, etc etc.
— struggles with bipolar disorder.
— has a big white dog named pam. she's a fellow stray.
— lives in Lakewood Drive in a 2 bedroom house that’s seen better days. POTENTIAL ROOMMATE WC (preferably a dude but i can roll w/anyone)
****
plots + connections: i’m up for anything!! especially dark plots or ones involving his drug dealing/criminal past. feel free to IM me with ideas or ask for discord! peace chickens <3

HOT NEW ALBUM FRIDAYS: The Black Keys Deliver With ‘Ohio Players’
The Black Keys' new album, Ohio Players, has stirred emotions within us we didn’t know were there, encapsulating the duo's ongoing evolution and experimentation. The album is notable for its homage to the band's Ohio roots and the legendary soul band of the same name, indicating a blend of rock with hints of soul and other genres. Ohio Players is different from their other albums but the title itself reflects a clever nod to the band's origins and influences.. There is a mix of tracks that range from sounding like traditional Black Keys to ones where the band seems to play a more background role. For instance, tracks like “Please Me (Till I’m Satisfied)” and “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” showcase the band's known sound but also highlight the challenges of blending in with the additional instrumentation and guest artist contributions. They experiment with sounds on this album heavily and it pays off. The way it navigates through genres from soul to pop to hip-hop influences is a feast for the ears. Songs like “You’ll Pay” for its ‘60s vibe blended with soul, and “Live Till I Die” for its psych-rock leanings. Ohio Players elevates The Black Keys' catalog to new heights, earning unparalleled acclaim for its rich tapestry of sounds and its homage to the vibrancy of life amidst the world's complexities. The album's diverse lineup of guest musicians and technical contributors, including notable figures like Beck, Noel Gallagher, and Greg Kurstin, suggests a rich collaborative effort that spans various musical styles and instruments. This collaborative spirit is evident in the varied soundscapes across the album, from intricate percussion arrangements to layered backing vocals and guitar work. Ohio Players is a testament to The Black Keys' adventurous spirit, merging their rock roots with expansive musical explorations. We celebrate the album as a vibrant, genre-crossing journey that underscores the duo's versatility and willingness to experiment. Standout Tracks: “Beautiful People (Stay High)”, “On The Game”, “Read Em And Weep”, Fever Tree”. Check out “On The Game” below: Read the full article

Cas Metah & J.Rawls – Criminal Blinded (2023)
Tumblr media
Tony Le Calvez looks at Criminal Blinded, the new collaborative album from Ohio underground hip hop artist Cas Metah and legendary producer J Rawls, released December 15th on PolarEntLLC.
Old school never dies, or at least, that’s how it feels listening to Cas Metah’s newest record, “Criminal Blinded.” The project never wears out its welcome and the chemistry between Hogle and J.Rawls style’s are undeniable. Both artists sound incredibly in-tune and immersed in hip-hop culture and their positive regard of old school makes this project come together like a perfectly molded set of grills. My biggest complaint about the record is just that there isn’t more of it.
