Steve Harrington would like to live just one normal day.

He wanted to be woken up by the soft press of a kiss on his forehead from his boyfriend as he left for work, then wake up again later when it was his own turn to get up for work. He wanted to go to work, cut, dye and style some hair without any issues and then make his way home to cook dinner for two. Maybe he’d get to have a beer and watch Masterchef to finish the evening.

A normal day.

He’d give anything for a normal day.

Eddie was home before him, which wasn’t unusual. It was a Friday and Eddie made sure to do as much prep and marking as he could for the week to come so that when the High School bell rang to signal the end of the day, he could leave as soon as was appropriate. Whereas the salon didn’t close until five.

“Hey babe,” Steve asked as he surveyed the disarray of his living room. “Where did all these puppies come from?”

Eddie looked as frazzled as he probably felt. His hair was tied up but had mostly fallen out, the sweat beading across his hairline had caused it to frizz awkwardly. He was surrounded by their cheap towels (blessed be small miracles) in various states of dampness, and no less than seven freshly born and also damp puppies.

Steve had to stop himself cooing over their squeaky yawns.

Eddie turned wide pleading eyes towards him. “You know how we thought Rae was just fat?”

Rae, the stray dog that they found sleeping under the bushes in their back yard a week ago, named for Carly Rae Jepsen (Steve’s favourite artist, since Eddie named their cats), whom they fell immediately in love with.

“She was pregnant,” Steve finished.

“Hit the nail on the head, sweetheart,” Eddie tried to laugh but it sounded so strained that Rae tiredly lifted her head to investigate.

Steve finally took pity on him and tossed his bag onto the couch so he could sink down onto the floor next to Eddie. He reached out a hand to rub Rae’s head.

“Hi sweet girl, you’re doing so well! Such a good Momma already,” he cooed gently.

Rae flopped back down with a huff.

“What happened?” He asked Eddie quietly.

Eddie took a deep breath and untied his hair so he could retie it back into a bun that actually kept the hair from his face.

“I got home at the normal time and there was already three pups out. We’re going to have to replace the rug by the way.” He shuddered at the memory. “I googled how to help a dog give birth and now we’re here.”

Steve knew he was leaving a lot of the story out, but he would get the details later when Eddie wasn’t feeling so overwhelmed and could remember them.

“We should probably call a vet, right? Just to make sure everything is okay?” Steve asked quietly.

Eddie squeezed his knee comfortingly. “I’ll go do that now.”

He stood with a groan, bones cracking in various places where they hadn’t been moved in a while. He leant over to kiss Steve on the forehead.

“I’ll order Thai food as well?”

Steve hummed. “That would be great.”

Eddie disappeared into the kitchen to get their collection of take out menus.

As Steve pulled out his phone to do his own google research, he wondered if Robin and Chrissy would be ready to adopt a puppy in eight weeks.

You did your hair up like you were famous

Even though it's only church where we were goin'

Sunday mornings used to be Ollie’s favorite day. Not because it was a weekend, not because it was a race day, but because it was the day when he would meet up with you. He remembers how you used to do your hair, styling it as if you are going to a formal event although you are actually just going to the church with him. 

Ollie remembers how every time after the church service, he would take you on a lunch date, sometimes accompanied by his siblings who love you so dearly. He remembers how you would take care of them like they are your own siblings, he remembers how he realized he is in fact, in love with you on one of those Sundays. But Sunday mornings are not Ollie’s favorite anymore. Not after everything that happened.

Now, Sunday mornings, I just sleep in

It's like I buried my faith with you

I'm screamin' at a God, I don't know if I believe in

'Cause I don't know what else I can do

Sunday mornings used to be so different with you, and he knew nothing will ever be the same ever again after what happened to you. Now, he just sleeps in if it’s not a race day. He never goes to church anymore, he buries his faith in God with you, buried under the earth. 

Ollie has lost count of how many times he had screamed at God, why did He have to take you away from Ollie? Why did God hate Ollie so much that he have to take the love of his life away from him? Ollie doesn’t know what to do anymore but cry and scream every time he remembers that you are not with him anymore, and you will never be with him again from that day.

Ollie remembers the day you were admitted to the hospital, they said you were okay, that it would be just a small, simple surgery. But now he knows that it was all just a lie. That day was qualifying day and Ollie had managed to snatch the pole position. All the happiness from the day’s event is gone when he received a call from your mom.

“She’s in a coma, she lost too much blood during the surgery,” your mom had said to him through the phone. It took everything in him not to leave the race and fly back home to see you. He had been crying all day and all night, worried about you. He should be there with you, he thought.

On Sunday, he took his win from the feature race, and fly back to you as fast as he could. Only to be informed that you are gone, you are not with him anymore. You had passed away.

Oh, it hurts so hard

For a million different reasons

You took the best of my heart

And left the rest in pieces

Ollie remembers the day of your funeral. It was also the day you took his heart with you, buried six feet under the earth. “It’s okay Ollie, she loves you all her life,” your mother said, trying to console him. It was weird, he should be the one to console your parents, not your parents consoling him. But that doesn’t matter at that time. 

Ollie had met you when both of you were just 4 years old, going to the same kindergarten. Ollie confessed his feelings to you when you were 14 years old and started dating when you were 15 years old because finally, you are “old enough” according to your parents. 

It feels to him, that he has loved you all his life. But, he realized that the years of him being with you were just a portion of his lifetime, and you have loved him all your life. That fact broke him so deeply, how is it fair? You had promised to be with him no matter what, you had promised that you will always be there for him when he needs you. And you are, you are always faithful to your promise. But what about him? He wasn’t even there when you go into the surgery, he wasn’t there when you fell into a coma, he wasn’t even there when you took your last breath.

But he knew that at the end of the day, it was not his fault. He knew that at the end of the day, he has the move on. And he also knew that at the end of the day, he will always love you, no matter what.

If your younger followers are looking for a way to do things in motorsport, can I suggest karting? There are so many opportunities there for all sorts of roles. On the social media side, there are 9yos with linkedin profiles and Kit Belofsky (still a child!) recently had Lando Norris guest star on his instagram. If you’re into writing race reports, kart tracks have live timing these days and race replays on their results sites. It’s super cheap (usually like £5 or something) to get in as a spectator and you can talk to anyone in the paddock. Clubs are always looking for marshals and other volunteers, and clubs/drivers always need help with their socials. You’ll also get 30+ races a day which is far more fun than an F1 race weekend. Just a thought! Lots of love, your fave karting/ex-F1 timekeeper anon. <3

this is very good advice! also if you're young yourself (as in under 18) then karting is more likely to accredit you and you'll be in a (mildly) safer environment compared to full size circuit paddocks being.... well, let's be blunt, horrific.

and yeah, Lando himself actually met his social team when he was still karting. so there's lots of potential to grow with a driver and to get known by the up and coming generation.

it's also a good place to get started if you want to be a tyre technician or a mechanic. a lot of people connected to motorsport work at kart tracks at the weekends off (such as anon...) - Ollie Rowland used to work as a karting mechanic during his GP2 days, to pay his rent and it's how he started his grassroots motorsport programme. which tbh really needs a social media person...

omg ollie and i became friends a WHILE AGO like he was one of my first moots when i started this blog. i don’t know WHAT he saw in me bc i started off posting only keiji content and he literally… hates keiji??? so that’s still a surprise. but !!!! i was actually a HUGE fan of ollie’s writing before i started this blog and i was a bit of a fangirl >.< like i used to leave him anon messages complimenting his writing bc the way he writes keiji is !!! i don't think i've ever seen anyone ship these two, anon, which is curious considering there are a few canon moments that could be interpreted as shipbait! (i think i made a post about this already when season 2 was airing)

i'm not gonna lie, they're not a ship i think about a lot or that i'd read fanfics about, but i can see it? he's her (former) star bearer of choice so they interact often, she seems to find his sciencey conversations interesting, and he seemed very excited about researching her unique condition

i feel like their "shippability" peaked in 1) the chapter where oliver and ollie apologize to kate and emilyko for their unhinged memory erasing plan (...they kinda look like the "i believe in female supremacy" meme the way they're posed), and 2) when oliver proposes the fake engagement, i feel like there's potential there for an au where they actually go through with this idea

again i can't really imagine kate not being with emilyko, not even in the future when they're old enough for serious relationships, and not even if they're also dating other people BUT i also choose to believe oliver has at least a bit of a crush on ollie. like come on, he doesn't believe his human has ever done anything wrong in his entire life, not even when ollie was having his mad scientist awakening. i can't imagine them not being together either
