Hi since it's aro-spec week I'd like to just highlight one of my absolute favorite things about httyd, from the viewpoint of an aromantic:

The importance it puts on platonic relationships.

The whole franchise is of course, centered around Hiccup and Toothless' bond. They're friendship is from the beginning built on unconditional trust. They care for each other so much. They are best friends, hey mean everything to each other and have a bond nothing else (even romantic relationships) could ever rival.

(I could say so much more about them honestly but it's all probably been said before by someone better at articulating their thoughts so whatever)

Another aspect I love is while there are romantic relationships and plots, they're not shoved in the audience's faces. Other than certain episodes dedicated to Hiccstrid's development, it's mostly just, there. Neither the story nor the characters' lives revolve around it and it's honestly a bit refreshing.

Hiccup and Astrid very clearly value they're friendship. In the episode they got together, what Hiccup said to her very clearly implied how important to him she is, and he'd be fine even if they weren't romantic partners, as long as they can still be with each other.

And that's so special to me.

Like, it is not something you often see in media. And even when they do start dating, they primarily put their friendship first—and not just with each other, like there's a whole rtte episode basically dedicated to why they need to value their friendships just as much as they value each other.

And of course, the friendship between the dragon riders as a whole. As much as they fight, and despite their actions towards Hiccup in the past, they all clearly care for each other immensely and unconditionally. It's so unfortunate that they're just side characters in the movies, I really wish they're friendships got more of a spotlight but at least we have Rob and Rtte.

(Imo it does a very good job making these characters relatable whether you feel romantic attraction or not.)

Okay so, the prospect of dragons becoming 'softer' and 'less strong' and 'pet-like' due to living with vikings for a few years is so messed up!

This is partially due to how Toothless was characterized in THW. His character in Httyd 1 & 2 + GotNF +RoB/DoB + RTTE + other short movies is leagues different from THW Toothless. And amongst the common reasons theorized for this is dragons having become 'softer spoiled pets' due to 'being away from the wild'. And I hate it!

These dragons, especially the ones who have riders, are canonically stronger, faster, smarter and stealthier than any wild dragons due to all the experience they gained over the years. The dragons of Berk, particularly the gang's dragons, have travelled tremendous distances in single flights, fought battles with armadas and hunters and submarines and entire flocks and practically giants, been to habitats far and wide where wild ones don't dare venture, been through so much, have had near death experiences countless times and came out of those stronger than before. Heck they've even planned and strategized before! They have sharper instincts, faster reflexes, higher endurance and stamina than the wild ones who live in their own habitats. These guys have experienced and survived going through all kinds of habitats. I really doubt that the gang's dragons, the first and last line of defence, the researcher assists, the protectors and best friends of the most competent group on the island would get soft just like that.

AND! And, each of these dragons, Toothless, Meatlug, Hookfang, Stormfly, Barf and Belch, they were becoming smarter and smarter by the day. Toothless in the first movie was intelligent, curious, kind, stealthy, elegant, scary, dangerous, adorable, protective, strong. And he remained as such throughout the series. Why turn him into a... A senseless dog?! Where did his grace, his speed, his stealth and intelligence and protectiveness and loyalty go? That was NOT Toothless. Why was my boy treated like a silly pet and nothing else? Did they just up and forget everything he did throughout the course of the franchise? Toothless whose first thing to do when he got a controllable tailfin was go out to find Hiccup's lost helmet that fell in the ocean and then he broke that tailfin because he valued and treasured this friendship over potentially distancing freedom, Toothless who had defeated and befriended multiple feral dragons without being able to fly, Toothless who ate an eel to keep his best friend safe, Toothless who played possum to fool the outcast guards and escape on his own, Toothless who was willing to drown because he couldn't leave Hiccup alone, Toothless who broke the most Intense mind control hold of the Bewilderbeast because the bond he had with Hiccup was stronger. Are we talking about the same Toothless even?

Gah, I just despise that last movie for so many reasons. I might've given it grace marks if it was just the theme being sad but everything in it was wrong and messed up and illogical.

{Male} "Rampage" {Reader}...a difficult being to say the least, always on the front line and ready to get his hands soaked in the blood of his enemies.

"Rampage" they called him, for single handedly taking down the bosses of a drug cartel in Mexico that had connections to Spain and Brazil and possibly England and Italy...personal reasons? Who knows why he was acting like that...

"Rampage" they called him, for always risking his life for the 4 he cared about the most, the ones that were his only family, expecially for his one and only special someone.

"Rampage" they called him, for being...a monster in other's eyes, a cold, stoic and 1.92 m. (6"3) uncaring barbarian that preferred to be in a room full of decayed corpses rather than a room full of people.

"Monster" they called him, for having always an easy trigger whether be angriness or the one of an assault rifle.

"Street dog" they called him, for being the target or his last teammates and rumors of having a dead family under the date of his birthday as a birthday gift from his uncle from the cartel.

"Whore" they called him, for casually discovering he liked men.

"Barracks Bunny" they called him...for just discovering that, when he was 16 years old, he had a now ex-boyfriend.

Location - Tundra, snowy plains

Time - 04:00 am

Mission - hunt down possible traffickers base for illigal weapon storage and selling of retired but still functioning nuclear military equipment.

The enviroment is quiet and that silence was sometimes silently ripped away from thw flying of owls or the occasional snarls of carnivores hunting in the back ground. Pulsing ehite stars gave the ground a faint light, enough to just see the outline of the white woolly shoes all of them were wearing.

'Dogs, I hate dogs'

Price said while croucing in the snow that was filling his brown beard to the brim. Walking slowly, he approached Gaz that was laying down on the white carpet with his sniper rifle keeping an eye on any movement.

'Do ya hate yourself Cap.? Never thought you could do that'

The man near John smiled and huffed out a visible white smoke from his mouth.

'Shut it Seargent, if I have to be a dog, then I want to be a retired Great Pirenees'.

He puffed out a laugh laying down and getting from the back of his bulletproof grey vest, a pair of night vision goggles and a thermal display.

'I cant detect any movement'

He pushed the button over the comms and the microphone on his head-casket activeted giving a light buzz.

'Rampage, Soap, Ghost, we cant detect any movement from here. Procede with caution from the opposite side'

Price gave the order and turned off the comms.

'Roger that Bravo 6. Moving on.'

Soap turned around and gave a nod to the other two. Ghost was eyeing the faint lights of the secret entrance of the base while Rampage, while sitting on a rock, was cleaning his M4. They looked at John and they all moved quietly.

'It's going to be hard if we go all together, better going off on different directions.'

Rampage spoke lowly since his mouth was restrained by the long exposure to the cold. He got up, put his M4 back into place and took a step forward, then another and another. His boots dived into the thick stone crunching the twigs inside the dead earthly mat. He signaled the others to turn on the night vision goggles as the lights on their helmes could attract attencion.

They moved along and the base entrance was just 300 m away, the grey dark steel door was well hidden and sentinels where guarding it. Soap was the furthest away, hidden in a bush, he pointed his sniper to the guards and so did Rampage who was on his left 20 meters away.

'Bravo 6 to Soap, Ghost and Rampage. Report'

Ghost was the first one to pick up as he was in the middle.

'We are at the other side of the base. Waiting for confirm.'

Ghost responded while giving a nod to both of his friends.

'We are at the main entrace, guards under shooting range'

'Permission to move forward.'

Low shots exploded as the guards fell down with a stream of crimson blood. The night time was the best for these kinds of missions but black clouds were starting to cover the starry sky. In swift movements they entered the base.

It was dark and quiet, too quiet...green lights at the edge of the narrow tunnels filled with diesel stench and very old pumps were emitting slow and annoying whistles. The only sounds that accompanied those were the ones Rampage who decided to controll this aisle alone.

'Fuck me...this is a fuxking maze...' he whispered as he eyed the glass of a door with a decomposing body behind it. His nose itched and sneezed not emitting a sound, then he sneezed again, this time louder. He felt his head heavy and vision blurry...surely a decomposing body wasnt gonna be a problem for him, right?.

'Ugh, bleh' He snarled as he moved forward shaking his head to get his mind back into place since he was starting to feel very cold out of knowhere.

Loud remainings of explosions ringed into his ears, and his vision betrayed him by showing him a blurry and painfull vision. His body ached all over and burned deep down his joints. He was on one of the beds of the military infirmary. Why was he there? Wasn't he near the room with the decaying corpse inside?.

'Morning {Male!Reader}, sunshine of 141. Had a beautifull beauty sleep, didn't we? Well not really since you where almost dead on the med-evac.'

A familiar voice rang near his already hurt ears. That annoying scottish accent...that must have been Johnny?.

'What the...? How the fuck, how I am here and not in the Tundra?'

His muscles burned with a linger of cold and he felt his throat dry.

'Well, yesterday of course. That sudden explosion did caught you off guard didnt it?'

Rampage turned his tired skull to the other. John was sitting on a chair at the side of the bed wearing a jacket and gloves, his head was tilted to the side as he watched you buried under wool sheets.

'Don't move, you took quiet a blow there and the fever surely had it's effect too...'

He pushed him down back to bed, the mere touch scorched like hell on his skin but Soap couldn't know.

'Why the jacket Scot-head? Cold?'

{Male!Reader} teased sitting back up on the hard bed with fatigue and a suppressed laugh with a grin. He had an half closed eye thanks to the now permanent new scar on his left eye...new addition to his glasgow smile...

'You can say soo...he sighed, we all took a beating and some flu but you were the worst put one actually'

Johnny headed to the door and put a hand on the door-knob.

'{Male!Reader}, rest well ok?'

He turned around as he spoke, a look of pity painted on his eyes.

'Yes yes, not that I have anything else to do anyway'

He sounded tired as he groaned and scratched his head. He warched the door of his room close and felt the silence on him weight like a heavy blanket. He looked around, he saw the messy desk, neatly done wardrobe and laundry and...the back and white wool blanket.

It was a gift from Ghost for their 10th anniversary. Since they were on deployment for at least one year, they couldnt really get anything for eachother so Ghost opted for aomething he could get between the short leave days and well...{Male!Reader} didnt have time to do anything since he was asked (more obliged) to stay at base and do paperwork and train the new recruits. All of that stress made him more exposed to catching colds or what more and that made him more stressed that he was before.

THW Rewrite

More headcannons because I have not been able to stop thinking about this franchise for the past 13 years, and I have over a decade's worth of opinions.

I've already posted some of these ideas but ehh it's fine.

While I enjoyed watching it for the first time, THW was disappointing to me for a variety of reasons. (The music was probably the best out the franchise though, I'll say that) Grimmel didn't reach his full villain potential since the writers used Ruffnut's lack of judgment as his key to success instead of him being a capable strategist. (Also they did my girl so dirty. She may be a dumbass, but she's not an idiot!) I don't like that the dragons left after just 6 years. I don't like that all the riders except for Hiccup and Astrid are just played for laughs instead of shining like they do in RTTE. I don't like whatever the hell Snotlout's obsession with Valka was, and I didn't like Toothless' "romance" with the Light Fury. I hate that even dragons can't escape half-developed romance and a nuclear family as the ultimate character accomplishment.

So here are my edits (looking back, there's quite a bit going on, so it may need to be split into 2 movies or a short TV series)

The time jump happens between movies 2 and 3. (I want a full movie with bearded Hiccup and "Homecoming" does NOT count) 10-15 years have passed, so the riders are about 30-35. Zephyr and Nuffink are either little kids or preteens and are getting to an age where they're starting to train dragons.

Astrid is more rough around the edges like she was in HTTYD 1 and Rob/Dob/RTTE, not just Hiccup's supportive gf/wife. Instead of making her softer, motherhood has made her fiercer because she has more people to protect. Hiccup on the other hand is a doting father and can't say no to the kids if they give him puppy dog eyes: heart melted every time.

Toothless finds his original flock(?)/herd?/murder?/unkindness?/parliament? of Night Furies instead of just one "soulmate". Each can have their own personalities and roles in the group while Toothless is the baby. I think it would be interesting if, like Hiccup, Toothless was quite small compared to his peers - potentially explaining why he was on his own and got separated from the group before meeting Hiccup.

Dagur and Heather are brought into a council meeting as Berserker allies. Hiccup greets them in a way that clarifies things for audience members who haven't watched the show. I suppose Mala would also be in it too. I don't dislike Mala but I hate her and Dagur's relationship. More development needed there.

Gustav should be there too, still very much trying to prove himself as a dragon rider and occasionally messing things up.

In terms of the main plot and villains, I'm not too picky, although I've said before that I'm tired of dragon mind-control being the main villain tool. I'm fine with it if Drago comes back as the villain, but if not, the villain should just be dragon hunters or rival dragon riders who use their dragons for conquering/raiding other settlements.

It can hit pretty much hit the same story beats as before but with better character dynamics.

Make Ruff and Tuff more instrumental to mischief and redirection in a way that helps the plot.

Give Fishlegs more credit for his discoveries and record-keeping about dragons.

Snotlout and Eret are together (or implied to be together if that's the best we can get). Snotlout is also no longer Hiccup's rival - he should be his second in command. They can disagree from time to time, but ultimately, his loyalty is not in question.

Fishlegs and Ruffnut have kids who cause chaos with Zephyr and Nuffink.

It would be cool to include a couple characters from other parts of the world with dragon mythology. I understand that Vikings are white but if we have goddamn flying dragons, there's no reason there can't be visitors from other cultures (who aren't villains).

Ending option 1: The movie can end with the dragons going away, but now they've been with the Berkians for over a decade and it just feels more impactful.

The "there were dragons when I was a boy" line can either be Hiccup talking to his grandson after an even longer time jump, or Nuffink talking to his own kids about Hiccup's adventures.

Ending 2: the Berkians go to The Hidden World with the dragons. Hiccup writes a memoir to leave behind. We hear him reading from it at the beginning and assume that means dragons are going to leave, but it's actually a diversion to make people think dragons are gone so no one tries to look for them.

Ending 3: We accept that HTYYD takes place in a different world so we don't have to explain why dragons don't live among us anymore. The movie ends with Hiccup vowing to make the archipelago safe for all dragons and Nuffink and Zephyr take up the mantle of discovering new dragons. The dragons stay and they all live happily ever after, the end :)

I'm tempted to actually write this as a fanfiction but I already got a lot of writing projects atm. We shall see.

HUNTER Au. But with valerie as phantom n danny as a hunter!!!

Ok what if vlad's plan at the reunion still failed because of jack. Danny not being phantom is none thw wiser to vlad being a ghost.

Events continue but definitely not the same. The portal was not completed by the time reunion happen. So vlad co buys out Valerie's dad's workplace. With fentons working there.

Valerie ends up becoming a half ghost do to a mishap. A sabotage that was actually planned by vlad but he didnt plan for one of his employees daughters to visit. (Explaining this poorly i is)

Valerie being half ghost is pissed at the fentons for what they done. And makes it known while trying to get a grip of her powers n ghost problem around town.

Fentons end up dying and vlad has perfect outlet to blame murders on. The new little heroine.

Only one who didnt die was danny.. and under his godfather he has a way to fight ghosts...

Vlad's completely amused and pushes the boy to get rid of that girl who destroyed his gamily.. unbeknownst the ghost who did was right there.

School life valerie feels bad for danny n apologizes to him. Danny n Valerie get along like they did in show.

But its flipped. With danny hating her alter ego, n valerie unable to blame him for it. But soon learns vlad is the mastermind.. which fuels her rage more because danny is being played like a pawn.

Idk if i explain it well but idea free for anyone uwu. Basically valerie is the ghost hero n Danny's the hunter.

Ooo imagine her colors still being mainly red.. maybe red hair instead of inverted to white.

Danny being green hunter. Well probably a cooler name but color scheme green still.

Also can see danny being terrified of ghosts but after his family is taken, he thinks his parents are right n has to stop the ghosts.

Vlad not having bonded with danny over being half ghost n this girl is more of a nuance than worth keeping, he's just amused. Though still cares for the boy but more as a momento or trophy of maddie. Maybe still trying to clone her n the basement hidden part of the lab.

Oooooo danny unknowingly building majority of or fixing majority of Vlad's machines. His blueprints being used for more dastardly things.

So when the reveal happens its very climatic!

Valerie is captured and about to be taken out. Vlad is revealed and danny just stands n horror realizing what he done... what vlad has done... who valerie is...

And like always, vlad under estimates the ppl around him. And danny is done being a pawn. Him n valerie team up. Only to talk as sun rises up.

-When he first found out you were a voice actor, he was glad that at least you found something to do as a hobby or career that you really enjoyed.

-However what he wished he knew before was that you voice acted for the more sinister characters.

-He was obviously amazed that you could switch your voice up like that and thought you were a lot more talented than he originally thought.

-However he didnt know what to think of you when you started voice acting.

-It was like you were a completely different person.

-Your voice normally sounded a lot more higher pitched but when you voice act, its like puberty hit you super fast.

-Either way, he doesn't really care what you do as long as you don't annoy him to the point of extinction.

Azul:

-When he first met you, he thought that you were way too kind for your own good.

-But he likes very benevolent people so he decided to talk to you.

-He felt like you were someone that he would have deeply appreciated in his childhood so it was fast to make a great connection with him.

-Once you tried voice acting, he was so supportive since they both were careers that he thought were amazing and could help with his business.

-But your voice acting was what left him in shock.

-You had a very deep voice when you voice acted for the evil characters and he wasnt sure if that was a bad thing since clearly, you were good at it.

-He low-key enjoys the deep voice and cool pick up lines and you could always see him getting flustered when you say the flirty sinister lines in your deeper voice.

Kalim:

-You dont have to be nice to be his friend, he would have been your friend anyway.

-But he does love your compassion more than anything.

-After Jamil's overblot, his true colours have been shown so it was nice to get someone who was a lot more kinder into his life even though he still liked Jamil just the same as before.

-You probably brought up the voice acting-gig in one of your conversations and showed him then.

-He was surprised that you always played the mean characters but even more surprised when you did it so well.

-Plus it suits you so well, so he is now one of your biggest fans and would support you in the more financial needs of the career if you needed it.

Vil:

-He was so shocked at how beautiful on the outside you were and he had to come ask you about the routines you had.

-Probably more shocked at how beautiful you were on the inside, probably even more than Neige.

-So you two got along super easily which was a shock to pretty much everyone about how fast you two got along.

-In one of the conversations you both had brought the focus on acting which was a big thing for the two of you.

-He liked to play amazing characters and you liked to be thw voice of amazing characters.

-He wanted to see how good you were and asked to read out lines you did.

-Shocked when you gave an evil chuckle and a flirty line because this was different to your own nature.

-After finding out you are a voice actor, he now gets things to improve your speech and his own for the sake of beating Neige.

Idia:

-He probably already knew who you were before you two even met and asked Ortho to get you to his bedroom.

-He was surprised you were so nice despite always being his favourite antagonists' voices.

-You two did along since you two also liked the game and he would ask you to bring him with you to meet the rest of the cast.

-Obviously with your social help.

-Needless to say is that you are his favourite human and his day brightens up because of you.

Malleus:

-At first sight, he thought you were a fragile one since you were so nice to people.

-Even to the people he considers as rude.

-But he just could help but be captivated by you.

-He decided to have a conversation with you and you seemed to caring without being naïve which he found as a admirable trait.

-You told him of your career and he told you about his past.

-After saying goodbyes, he forgot to ask what a "voice-actor" was and decided to ask Lilia instead of chase after you.

-Lilia seemed to know a lot about your career and spoke highly of you so he decided to ask.

-You read out a few lines and managed to sound sacrier than most other dragon fae he's seen.

-He was only amused and obviously charmed since he started to incite you over a lot more.

-This was when you introduced him to the game and he gave you advice on how to sound dominant through his own experiences.

Imagine if the live action HTTYD remakes reshaped the franchise in Dean's original vision prior to uhhh. The HTTYD 2 super-rewrite. And then made the ending of HTTYD THW actually work in the narrative.

HTTYD LA: Same movie as before except Toothless and Hiccup develop a relationship which is a lot more master/pet focused (a la the books) than the species-transcending platonic soulmates shit they've got going on in the animated franchise. Moments during the Forbidden Friendship, See You Tomorrow and Test Drive sequences especially could totally hammer this point home.

HTTYD 2 LA: Dragon-Viking culture on Berk now resembles Book!Book in that it's peaceful but unhealthy. Toothless is treated as a pet and is implied to not enjoy this. Valka is the villain and is batshit insane, Drago is foreshadowed, Valka kills Stoick, Hiccup defeats her and becomes chief (he pulls a Hiccup Is A Pacifist and tells her to leave with her dragons and never come back a la Furious in the books). Toothless defeats the Bewilderbeast on his own but instead of this being framed as a Protect My Soulmate thing, it's moreso framed as asserting Toothless as being his own dragon rather than just Hiccup's pet.

HTTYD 3 LA: Drago is a thing now. Optional stuff happens here. That conflict gets resolved. Hiccup loves the dragons and will go up against literal warlords to protect them, but dragons and vikings still separate in the end because Dragon-Viking culture is toxic as shit (a la the books). Toothless is the one to make this decision and Hiccup finally treats him like an individual instead of a pet, allowing him to make this decision.

OPTIONAL:

If you really want the Hidden World to be a thing, then sure. Let Drago attack the Hidden World and Hiccup and Toothless defend it. Personally, I don't like the Hidden World right down to the very concept, but if you really want it, then I can see it working. Hell, they could find Valka living down there with all her dragons which could alleviate some concerns about introducing foreign dragons, etc.

Toothless being the only Night Fury. We know Drago's arm was bitten off by a Night Fury, so he could have a personal vendetta against them and kill every single one he finds instead of using them for his dragon army. Would be a lot easier for Drago to hunt Night Furies with a fucking Bewilderbeast than it would be for Grimmel with six Deathgrippers and Magic Poison™.

The Light Fury and the Night Lights. Toothless would totally be willing to sit by and watch her shoot at Hiccup in this AU. Give her an actual personality, make her hate humans (trauma from being in Drago's army) with a fierce passion, make her violent and strong. She could totally have chemistry with Toothless in this AU, given Toothless's detestation of being treated as a pet and her trauma and hatred of humans. Instead of bait, she's a threat.

If I had the time, I'd write this myself (who am I kidding I might try to anyway). Like, I really hate Man vs Nature stories where Man Bad Nature Good for many reasons, but hey, if there's any reason to remake the franchise, this is it. Recreate HTTYD 2 in it's original vision and make THW work within the narrative in a way that everyone can get down with.

is it just me or did they turn Toothless into basically a 12 year old's overpowered mary sue OC in THW? like they made him the last of his kind, gave him the Light Fury's cloaking and the Skrill's lightning channeling powers, and made him the king of literally every dragon in the world. like in HTTYD2 he was very powerful but not ridiculously so, and him becoming the alpha of Berk's dragons was because they chose to follow him for helping free them from Drago and was a cool parallel to Hiccup becoming the chief of Berk, and it actually felt believable. then THW was just like "Toothless is the most coolest rarest strongest and specialest dragon ever and all dragons obey him because he's the best" and it just feels more like it belongs in a bad fanfiction written by a kid than it does an official film in the HTTYD series

And tbh, this is what made me like him less. Night furies are cool, ok? Who doesn't think that to some degree, but Toothless became less of a believable creature and more of a "Look! This is the coolest, most powerful, most epic dragon ever and all other dragons are nothing compared to him!"

Toothless's power didn't come from being a "King of All Dragons" nor from having all of these special, flashy abilities. It came from his bond with Hiccup. Their friendship pushed Toothless beyond the animalistic boundaries that tied him to being just like any other dragon. He fought against nature's call itself (the Alpha Call) because his friendship was more important and powerful than nature itself. That is what made Toothless so powerful and why THW ruined his character so much. They didn't want Toothless and Hiccup's friendship to be the driving force anymore, but still needed Toothless special somehow, so they started slapping each and every special thing he could have had onto him.

First off, I cannot wrap my head around Toothless being the "King of all dragons in the world". Neither bewilderbeast held that title, so why did Toothless all of a sudden get it? A flock alpha, yes, but king of every single dragon species and individual in the world??? That's not how any animal or natural force works. That's not even how humans work unless you want to throw the world into chaos and disorder. One dragon cannot and should not be the driving force of EVERY dragon. A night fury cannot understand and cater to each species' need as a "king". THW wants to push the "dragons are just wild animals" theme so hard, then they need to listen to it and not twist it for plot convenience. Toothless ruling Berk's flock is one thing, but you will not convince me that he rules every dragon in the world because the world is a BIG place.

Second is the stupid cloaking ability. Ok, so "night furies being the unholy offspring of lightening and death" could easily be used to defend this but here's my take on this: the plasma blast. You have to remember the era we're in and not everything is as literal as the stories are going to say. No, I don't think the skrill-like lighting-before-cloaking is what this title refers to. You know what IS like lightening, however? A night fury's plasma blast. This superheated, bright, sound barrier-cracking ability is most likely what the stories and title are referring to. Up until THW, Toothless has never shown anything lightening-like and the cloaking ability just makes no sense for an already black, nocturnal animal. Any animal that is already blending into its surroundings isn't going to want to shoot off some bright and loud blast just to hop through it and...blend in again??? It's redundant and this ability was literally just added in for reasons, I guess. I hate it and will never see it as canon.

Lastly, they robbed us of other night furies. Toothless's character taking such a nosedive nearly ruined the whole night fury species for me because he will forever be the only canon representation for the species. That, and the whole "last of their kind" trope is super boring and overused. They drug us along with the premise that we may indeed get more night furies only to hand us THW and shrug saying "Ah, sorry. No night furies. Instead, here's a dude that apparently can confirm in the viking age that he indeed traveled every corner of the world without modern technology and transportation and has indeed conformed that there is no night furies at any corner of the world despite most of it being undiscovered at this time." They didn't even give us a story with it, they did the BIGGEST story no-no and "told instead of showed". We got no flashbacks, no other touching on this subject, just a few words from a dude that apparently canon-wise, we have to accept is true. Lame, poorly told, and boring.

Also for clarification, I LOVE Toothless, but THW Toothless is not the same dragon and I do not care for this soulless stranger.

yo, having 6k in chapter 3 is amazing. good for you!

my first playthrough i got the white arabian and i named her Lemoyne Tree as a tribute to the state of Lemoyne and my favorite post malone song Lemon Tree. But she always got super dirty so i then went to the lake next to Strawberry and tamed the red chestnut arabian. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that one, she's gorgeous and arthur always gets that one when i play it. my beautiful baby girl Diablo <3

i won't go too far, but just keep yourself high honor towards the end of the game. you need that to be your first ending. :')

Charles deserves the absolute world. just listening to him speak and hanging out with him at camp, and the missions you continue on to do with him throughout the game are so much fun. charles is someone i wish i could have in my real life because he seems like he would be the best person to speak to and hang out with. he is so lovely and down to earth. even arthur says it a couple times throughout the game. charles gets a good ending i promise.

my top blorbos are Arthur, Dutch, Charles, Hosea, and Josiah Trelawny my absolute beloved <33333 just wait until you go on the mission with Charles to find trelawny. one of my favorite missions ever ever ever ever!!

Little rant about live action remakes, specifically HTTYD

Okay, so sometimes when I am reminded that HTTYD is getting a live action remake, it kinda makes my stomach hurt. Why? Let me tell you.

I watched HTTYD as a kid and kinda forgot about it, but in 2020, when the world was falling apart, I turned to it and fell in love. Like obsessed. I hyper-fixated on it for months. I watched all three movies, the short films, RTTE, and a few episodes of DoB that I could find for free lol. I read the fanfics and have obsessed over fan-art (seriously guys, whoever is talented enough to draw, keep it up! I love y'alls fan-art so much!!) I listened to John Powell's music while I completed my online homework, it felt so stable to me. The characters, the music, the beauty of the animation, it was comforting. Especially during such an awful time.

When I heard that there was a live-action film in the works, it literally made me sick. I refuse to watch the D*sney remakes because they're all soulless cash-grabs. But, I also admit that I have never been as attached to any of the Mouse movies as much as I have been with HTTYD. One of my friends asked me why I am not happy with this because he knows I love the series. So here is my little rant and reasons as to why I am dreading this so much.

1) Did the fans ask for this?? No. It's not as simple as, "just don't watch it". When this movie inevitably makes a ton of new changes (like all live action remakes) those changes will become actual canon. Whatever changes are made will affect what we know about the world of Berk and the characters of it. We as a fandom, have done a pretty good job of appreciating these characters for who they are and the story for what it is and growing it through some pretty great head cannons. Well, guess what, that could all change. Whoopie doo!

2) The degradation of Animation. Animation is an art form. Not a genre. It is a medium. Yet, time and time again it is presented as something childish and something that cannot be taken seriously. (I've recently had an argument with my friend because he thinks he's much too mature to watch animated movies). Each and every-time an animated movie is remade, it is a slap to the face of every animator who worked their butts off to make it as beautiful as possible. And in an effort to make the remakes more realistic, they are often washed out and use bland colors. Can you imagine the unholy offspring we'll get with Toothless and the other dragons when they are made "realistic"??

also, can't forget about the hidden world,

these scenes are GORGEOUS. They are not realistic, why should they be?? This is a series about dragons, not taxes, it doesn't have to be realistic. The colors, the textures, every element works together, beautifully.

Some honorable mentions: the scene in HTTYD 2, when Stoick is walking into the blacksmith shop,,, the way the light shines on him as he walks... ugghh BEAUTIFUL

the sand on the beach in THW when Toothless is drawing a picture of the Light Fury, I swear that sand is real. The animators went HARD and for what?? for the company to come in only a few short years later and decide that it is too unrealistic or not valid enough as an art form?? i'd be pretty upset.

3) This will cause unnecessary trends on social media. (This is specifically a rant that stems from my own lack of confidence, sorry in advance) Look, I hate to say it, but I naturally gatekeep stuff. I like to feel unique and like my interests are my own, so it pains me when the internet will find something niche that I love and ruin it with unnecessary trends. For example, I love Avatar, (yes... the "blue one" :/). So for years, the fandom was kinda controlled, I appreciated the artwork and content from real fans and honestly I liked when nobody even really knew the Avatar fandom was still going strong. But, with the release of The Way of Water, all of a sudden, everyone on TikTok and Instagram became the biggest fans ever or at least pretended to be. One of my friends is an aspiring makeup artist and she did the Na'vi look despite never having seen either movie. All of a sudden, this special thing I was interested in, blew up. That is what is going to happen to this fandom at least for a while. I won't be able to find real fans because everyone will just post all kinds of things and create new trends using John Powell's music. I'm all about getting new fans and being welcoming to actual fans. But it won't be all fans, it'll just be content creators needing to stick with the trends. People who haven't seen any of the HTTYD films since they were children are going to act like they've been waiting for this moment their entire lives. Idk, I'm kinda cynical, if you couldn't tell. I truthfully like ppl actually becoming fans and I don't want to discourage that, but I don't want to lose the real fans to the internet trends. and I am afraid that I will. At least for a few months after the release.

4) Dreamworks only really exists as a middle-finger to Disney. With Disney really sucking it up with their live actions in the past few years, and Dreamworks KILLING it with their new and exciting animated movies (Puss in Boots anyone??), I really thought they would continue trying to capitalize on honing their skills as animators. But, it makes sense that Dreamworks is trying their hand at something Disney does, but trying to make it better. I actually think Dreamworks will be better. I mean, we still got Dean DeBlois, which is a major win. Plus, in general, Dreamworks tends to take their time and create something actually good. So, I don't think the quality will be the problem, I just wish they wouldn't stoop to Disney's level.

5) We're wasting time instead of making a new work. Okay, let's say that Dreamworks HAS to create a live-action film. Create a new story. We wrapped up HTTYD with a pretty bow, now, let them sleep. Leave the story alone so you don't f- it up. Because as we all know, the more you f- around, the more you find out.

Look, as I said earlier, I don't think it will be crap quality or even a bad movie. I'm glad we get Dean DeBlois again and I really think that is going to make a huge difference. I'm not even upset by the casting of Hiccup and Astrid. I just don't want to lose one of my favorite franchises to watch it become a deflated, boring, bland reenactment that continues to be just another cash-grab. It makes me genuinely sad.

As long as the series is over, I feel like nothing can touch it. Nothing can ruin it. But, the second it is resurrected from the dead, it becomes fair play for anyone on the internet to regurgitate it and ruin the magic and now, this entire fandom is at the mercy of a few writers and one big corporation determined to one-up the competition as well as content creators looking for a new trend to get-in on.

Anyways, I love that as a fandom, we're all still here. I am proud that y'all are still making art and fanfics (keep going, pls). If we stick together, we can weather this storm. What is your take on Kaname and THW ship if it isn't romantic? How does it compare to Yume?

hello i'm glad you asked! i've been thinking about thie series for a while! and to answer it:

(this is my personal take and you can agree to disagree but i will stand by my opinion. if you ship THWxKaname and aren't happy with my answer please just kindly leave my blog without trying to convince me)

i don't think kaname loves THW romantically although they were in romantic relationship. in the sense of... it's clear there's a panel where she kissed him on the lips so their relationship were romantic.

i think they were together because: at that time, both were looking for companion with same goal in mind. their action were quite controversial. so, they did bond overtime.

but he wasn't attracted to her that much. he didn't have the hots for her like he did to yuki. yeah i'm not even joking on this part. haven't we read enough how much kaname yearn for yuki physically? kaname is literally so horny when it comes to yuki. we've seen how they kiss or drink blood.

(with this description, i'm pretty sure attraction is a big part of relationship for a man like kaname................ god i love him . taken from volume 10 btw)

so THW's kiss with kaname is a pale comparison. in my personal opinion, it's rather one-sided. (THW leaning in for a kiss and kaname's somberly touch her flowing braids... i feel like this could be any woman x kaname if she is the one giving him direction/power/companionship at that time., i think it's expected when two opposite gender that respect and doesn't hate each other spend a lot of time together. he's got his 'he's just a man' moments if you know what i mean when he take blood from ruka)

let's say he had a slight attraction to THW. still, it's already over once she's dead. he also had completely moved on from THW, yuki herself asked if kaname is looking for replacement for her and he said 'no one can be a replacement to anyone'. he didn't lie when he said this. there's literally no need for him to lie. he did regret losing THW but that's it.

(let me add some personal opinions/headcanon : i also don;t think THW and kaname had done anything more than a kiss. i long wondered how did kuran family has descendants if kaname didn't have a child himself back then with THW? if he had one then surely he would had a reason to live , or at least the child will appear in his memory. but, no that just doesn't exist. the more accurate guess would be : perhaps kuran family doesn't consist only ancestor kaname, but he had other siblings/family member who procreated and that is where yuki/rido/juri/haruka came from. the reason why they weren't in picture was because they didn't agree with kaname's goal to live alongside human. so they separated way) (ya know this could be provven wrong in the future VKM chapters as the series is still ongoing but i will stand by my opinion for now as it makes the most sense. if you think about it, someday ai's descendant will call rido as 'kuran ancestor' too.)

rather than in love, it's more appropriate to say kaname is still in the same page with THW when it comes to problem solving. because, they were doing the same quest together. and he actually agree that her plans to kill are purebloods and her decision to sacrifice herself were GOOD SOLUTIONS. when all plans failed, he remembered he could use her solutions.

this is the space where Yuki came in too late to save Kaname. it's not entirely Yuki's fault because Kaname deliberately keeps Yuki away from this problem because he knew how she'd sacrifice herself for him and he don't want that.

when it comes to yume, eventhough kaname sees yuuki as his lover and beloved, he was unable to see her as his equal. perhaps it's due to big age gap between them. therefore, kaname already has this mindset that decide yuki can't handle this much of a problem. and even if she can, he wouldn't let such a baby get involved in this problem.

the point in his struggle is he wants her to live and be free, just like he wanted himself to live and be free. kaname longs for the mortality and carefreeness that might set him free from his responsibility and burden (but he can't, so he try to at least give it to yuki. but OOPS, he turned yuki back into a vampire and now he's gotta keep those purebloods and opposing vampires in check...cause they're not endangerin only him, but yuki as well. not to mention the furnace and vampire hunter weapons are getting less effective.)

kaname meant it when he said yuki has became a hindrance for him. this is exactly why at the end of series, he wanted zero to be with yuki.

originally, that is not what he wanted, he wanted yuki for only himself. this is shown where he turned yuki back into vampire. although this was initiated by yuki. let's admit he partly agree so he could have her by himself. and show zero that yuki is HIS. that was not a part of his original plan.

but then he realized things have gotten too complicated and the price is too high to pay. (the price is yuki's safety and happiness that he fought for long and many times. he also saw that yuki wasn't as happy as she used to be in her new life as vampire and he felt guilty for it)

by the time he said she is a hindrance, he already hated himself. perhaps he already hated himself from a long time ago and now he got to see for himself how far his course of actions have gotten everyone in trouble. he didn't feel like he deserved yuki's warmth for a slightest. for him, it's already over. everything is over. his life is over. he wants nothing but redemption. i think this explains why he's so nonchalant when yuki held him tight. but, he still talked to her once he heard yuki erased zero's memories to chose him.

<Additionally, it explains why he decided to leave after their night together. Things have gone wrong so many times. Why would it work this time? It's the state of a depressed mind.>

ultimately he just want to protect yuki and prevent her from perishing like THW. because, he might not 'love' THW romantically or passionately but her sacrifice showed him how regret feels. he learned from it and try his best to prevent it in the future.

this is also why he rushed to throw his heart into the furnace, he didn't want yuki to change his mind again knowing her safety is at stake. especially when he know yuuki is too empathetic and caring of others.

kaname has this mindset : "If you want to marry an Angel, you must first create Heaven for her. Angels don't live in Hell".

as her ancestor,brother,husband,lover, he feels responsible to yuki's wellbeing.

unironically, he's a simple logical man. he's got a goal in mind and no price is too high to create heaven for yuki, a safe place she can live in. even if the cost is his own life and happiness

this is an open letter. Of sorts.

I wish I'd had the foresight to die with some thick fancy paper and an even fancier fountain pen on my person. It would feel more satisfactory, I think. More official.

But, well. Let us not start talking about foresight and regret. Otherwise we would be here for an eternity. I died with my phone, meaning I can still blog, and I can still write my letter.

I don't know how to feel about you. I don't know how to feel about myself.

I only started using she/her pronouns because you have always hated women. It was spite. But now.....I really like it. It feels like....me. Of course I understand that our mission is the most important thing, that our future depends on Constantine's ascent. And I don't mind being a tool for this movement - it is an honor to be able to serve our cause in such a significant way. Until the last breath I took I knew that I'd been important. To our cause. To what it would mean to be able to bring the dead back to life. I thought I'd been important to you, too. I hadn't even been fully aware of that last one until you forced me to doubt it.

I don't like seeing you cry, dad. I know you tried to hide it, but I could hear you sniffling and howling and sobbing like a pathetic little pony when you thought I was already asleep. When you cried in the same way over my corpse - when I became the reason for your suffering. I just wanted to climb on your back like I used to and tickle that one spot behind your left ear until you started laughing again. I just... I just wanted you to be happy. Like you'd been before Constantine died. Before that hole inside your soul I could never fill no matter how much I tried.

But then you stopped.

You stopped. And you bowed before Call, a boy who had no memories of his past life, as I had already told you. You bowed before him and you thanked him and you looked at him with the love and adoration only reserved for Constantine's corpse.

You bowed in front of a stranger mere minutes after he killed your kid. After he killed....me.

I always knew I was never as important as the cause. Couldn't even dream of being as important as Constantine. Call. Whatever. I thought I knew it. But it still hurt. It still felt like a betrayal.

And then you go and build a shrine. For me. Iaskfiuahehrjfud
