Is there a process on making flashes on Vast error?

It’s a very simple process with a very complex method of getting completed.

If you want an easy way of explaining it, the process goes something like this:

Pick Music-> Planning -> Timing To Music -> Storyboarding -> Finalizing Storyboards -> Sketching -> Coloring -> Final Animations -> Actionscript -> Export -> Post

It starts getting difficult when it comes to DOING all of that work however, especially when you want it all to be done as well but also as quick as possible. The longer it takes, the more time that could have been spent on the comic proper is going down the tubes and that tends to be a big personal worry of mine. Even though fans and team members tell me otherwise, I can’t help but feel the longer I take the more things start to slip.

It’s also a decently wide team effort across a solid five or more people, each of which has their own lives and obligations outside of working on a passion project. You have to ensure that they are accomodated and most of all, that they are able to manage the work properly. Sometimes while directing there is a significant portion that makes you feel like the boss from ‘Office Space’. I don’t want to be that guy, I don’t like to push people, but sometimes its gotta happen or you don’t know WHAT is going on with your quirky co-workers who hate you and also printers.

Art is honestly the easiest part of the process but it obviously takes the longest to do considering the bulk of it. @xamag-ve makes a lot of this process significantly easier because she has a lot of work under her belt, she knows what she’s doing and when she actually works she is quick and quality about it. Sparaze has always been a little slower, but only she can produce the creatures and certain artistic pieces and concepts we need to move forward. My job is incredibly limited comparatively, I’m not a professional artist I’m a writer who can color sometimes. So between the three of us we have to scuttle around doing this desperate balancing act of who takes what and who can best handle what. Eventually that scuttling stops and we look upon the erupting gray horizon knowing that we have done a good job, but it can take months to get to that point. Which is why we always try to make a note of starting flashes way early when possible. I have no fucking idea how Andy Hussman was able to do his scuttle dance so much more eloquently and fast than us, but that’s just how it goes.

Animation is mostly handled between @joyfulldreams and @kohila with a sprinkle of @patmandx-main and also Xam again thrown in when needed. I do not take much part in this process other than saying that it looks good and it fits the description and that they all did a good job because I am always proud of them. There are sometimes arguments over how things should be handled and some blood, sweat and tears over Flash or Adobe Animate fucking up but overall it is usually the least painful. The stormy horizon finally calms, Kohi or Pat makes sure the Actionscript works and we host the flash on MSPFA and Youtube. We cry, shit our pants, take a break for about a week and the cycle waits to begin anew.

But I never rest, because after release I have to deal with all of you and answer all of your questions. Forever and always.
