Reflecting on Hispaniola
An astronaut aboard the International Space Station took this photograph of Hispaniola while in orbit over the Atlantic Ocean. Hispaniola is divided into two countries, Haiti to the west and the Dominican Republic to the east. The island is part of the Greater Antilles, a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea stretching from Cuba (out of frame to the right) to Puerto Rico (bottom-left of the image). In this view, north is toward the bottom-right.
The oblique angle of the photo reveals Earth’s upper troposphere and stratosphere, visible as the light-blue strip in the top-left corner of the image. Atmospheric phenomena, such as a plume of smoke over the north-central part of the island and various cloud types, also make an appearance.
Sunglint brightens virtually all water surfaces in this image, highlighting the island’s hydrography. Sunglint occurs when sunlight reflects from a water surface directly back to the observer, or in this case, the camera. The Artibonite and Yaque del Sur rivers are especially visible against the darker landscape as bright, thin lines. The calm waters of interior lakes, such as Lago Enriquillo and nearby Lake Azuéi, and coastal bays along the island’s south side appear bright white, as sunglint is stronger in places with calmer winds and smoother water surfaces.
Trails of clouds stream downwind from Gonâve Island, west of Hispaniola, and the Tiburon Peninsula farther to the southwest. Such clouds likely form when warm, less-dense air near the ground rises and condenses. Clouds can also be caused by the orographic effect, which occurs when mountains act as a natural barrier that prevents the passage of air masses. Mountains force the air to rise and cool, triggering water vapor to condense into clouds on the windward side of a mountain while leaving the leeward side drier. This effect is evident along the Cordillera Central, where clouds have formed on the east side of the mountain range (windward) and mostly clear skies prevail on the west side (leeward).
Astronaut photograph ISS068-E-36387 was acquired on January 2, 2023, with a Nikon D5 digital camera using a focal length of 50 millimeters. The image was provided by the ISS Crew Earth Observations Facility and the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit at Johnson Space Center. The image was taken by a member of the Expedition 68 crew. It has been cropped and enhanced to improve contrast, and lens artifacts have been removed. The International Space Station Program supports the laboratory as part of the ISS National Lab to help astronauts take pictures of Earth that will be of the greatest value to scientists and the public and to make those images freely available on the Internet. Being from District 1 and being in the 75th Hunger Games with Finnick…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finnick Odair x Male reader
Warnings: It’s the goddamn hunger games so people dying and lots of violence, talk about two people hooking up.
(A/N: This is based on the movie because i didn’t feel like re-reading the book before writing this)
Growing up in District 1 had it’s advantages because unlike most districts yours has a good relationship with the capital and you are illegally trained for the hunger games so you get an advantage.
…buuuut there is a disadvantage, you are taught the games are just that GAMES and ignore the parts where you might end up traumatised or worse dead.
And that is how you ended up in the games, you volunteered but mostly because you were taught that the games are a good thing and because your parents pressured you into it.
However you ended up winning but not without some mental scars.
You took your winnings and moved into the victors village but without your parents not ever wanting to speak to them again.
You lived peacefully for a while until you didn’t because the capitol decided that for the third quarter quell the tributes would be reaped from the victors of each district.
When you saw that you may or may not have had a nervous brakedown.
Then came the day of the reaping, you told yourself that you were not likely to be picked since District 1 had several other Male victors.
”As for the male tribute… Y/N L/N”
But then you were picked anyway… *cries*
So alongside Cashmere you headed for the Capitol in one of their fancy trains.
You had been allowed to chose your mentors, Cashmere had chosen her brother Gloss. You had picked Augustus Braun, Panem’s favorite son, (he was a character created for promo photos for the movies, the guy who ”plays” him is really hot). He had been your mentor during the year you won so he knew how to work with you and plus he is nice :).
When you arrived at the trainstation there were a huge crowd waiting for you. Augustus advised you to try to appear sad but still wave to the capitol citizens and treat them kindly so they might sympathize with the fact that your back in the games.
You met up with your prep team and they made you strip naked so that they could look you over and make you look presentable.
After they finished they got you into your outfit for the tribute parade.
(A/N: Your outfit is whatever the male version of this would look like)
Tumblr media
You were walking towards the chariots for the parade when you heard a catcall whistle and you knew immediately who it was.
You turned around and were met with a almost naked Finnick Odair a familiar sight as you had hooked up the year before while being mentors for the tributes.
”Hello Finnick” you said in a voice implying that you were not in the mood for his flirting.
He caught the hint and the two of you had a normal conversation. You asked how Annie and Mags were doing as you were rather fond of both of them.
He said they were doing fine considering the cicumstances. The two of you talked for a while but eventually Finnick went to try to make Katniss Everdeen uncomfortable for fun.
You climbed in to the chariot and helped Cashmere get up as she was wearing 8 inch stilettos.
After the tribute parade you are escorted to the training center with the rest of your group.
The next day training began, you went directly for the throwing knives which was your preferred weapon.
Then you were approached by Peeta Mellark, last years winner, he asked you to show him how to throw knives. You agreed to show him and you gave him some tips and tricks that you used. He then showed you how to do some simple camouflage.
You liked Peeta he was the kind of person that was hard not to like, unlike his district partner.
You and Cashmere invited Katniss to the place where they showed you how to make hammocks and it was noticable that she was a bit suspicious to be talking to career tributes.
The training days passed by and you did well on your private session but now it was time for the interviews.
When you got out on the stage you threw your arms around Caesar Flickerman as if he was your lover, which in turn got you a ”Awww” from the audience.
You turned on the waterworks, you talked about how much you will miss the capitol citizens for treating you like family and that you regret not reconciling with your parents after a fight you had before you left and not getting to say goodbye to them. It was all lies though but it was enough to fool the audience.
The audience gave you a standing ovation while you joined Cashmere standing in a line above the stage.
The rest of the tributes gave their interviews (Johanna’s was your favorite) and then Peeta during his interview told Caesar that Katniss was pregnant and all hell broke lose.
That evening you were visited by Haymitch and he told you that Peeta had wanted you as an ally and about the rebellion and about their plan to get Katniss out of the arena.
You agreed to the plan.
Before you went in to the arena you said goodbye to your escort, prep team, stylist, Gloss and Augustus.
You also said goodbye Cashmere since you knew you were on different sides in the arena and you said a silent prayer that you wouldn’t have to be the one to kill her.
You were then taken aboard the hovercraft and flown to the arena. You were then escorted to the small elevator thing that takes you the podiums in the arena.
You stood in the elevator waiting anxiously for the game to start. You also realised that you didn’t know who your other allies would be other than Katniss and Peeta.
The podium then started rising until you were inside the arena. Your eyes were blinded by the sunlight and you looked around and saw that the podioum was surrounded by water.
You saw that there were rocky spokes connected to the island where the cornucopia was located.
Then you heard a voice saying ”Let the 75th Hunger Games begin, May the odds be ever in your favor” a voice started counting down from 10 and you prepared yourself to dive in.
A canon went of as the starting signal for the games and you dove right in to the water and swam to one of the rocky spokes and climbed up on it.
You saw someone else had climbed up on it behind you but didn’t care to find out who so you tried to run but they had roughly grabbed a hold of your arm and were trying to drag you back.
You turned around and saw the male tribute from district 9. Without thinking further about it you clenched your fist and punched him in the nose. He let go of you and you started running towards the cornucopia.
You looked around and realised that you were now at a disadvantage from only being held back for a few seconds.
You reached the cornucopia and tried to sneak around it to see who was there but Finnick suddenly appeared around the corner and pointed his trident at you for a second but brought it down as soon as you made eye contact.
”Come on” he said and led you to the weapons. You picked up vest with a bunch of throwing knives attached to it and put it on.
You had put it on just in time as the man from 9 had reached the cornucopia as well. His nose was bleeding from your punch. You got a knife from the vest took aim and threw a knife at his throat, you hit just as intended.
You got an extra leg holster with throwing knives and a regular knife incase needed for close combat.
Finnick told you to stay by the supplies to guard them with Katniss while he looks for Peeta. You nodded at him as he ran off.
Katniss and you stood guard for a while until Finnick returned saying Mags had found him. You and Katniss followed him as he led you out on one of the spokes leading out from the cornucopia.
You saw movement in the water as Peeta was wrestling with a tribute trying to drown him. Finnick dived in to help Peeta, you turned to the cornucopia to check so no one would sneak up behind you.
Soon enough Peeta and Finnick were out of the water and the 5 of you made your way in to the jungle.
You all ran through the difficult jungle terrain except Mags who was carried on Finnick’s back.
After getting far enough from the cornucopia you all kneeled down for a quick rest. You heard more canons going off meaning more people had died.
”I guess were not holding hands anymore” Finnick said with a quick laugh. ”You think that’s funny?” Katniss asked with obvious hostility in her voice. You made quick eye contact with Peeta basically saying Fuck, they are going to be fighting”.
”Every time that canon goes of it’s music to my ears, i don’t care about any of them” Finnick answered. ”Good to hear” Katniss said pulling out a machete from her quiver. ”Wanna face the career pack alone? What would Haymitch say?” Finnick asked teasingly.
”Haymitch isn’t here” Katniss stated and there was silence for a moment until Peeta said ”Let’s keep moving” and you all got up and continued moving through the jungle.
Peeta walked in front using the machete to cut plants and vines out of the way, Finnick was behind him carrying Mags, you were behind Finnick and Katniss was behind you.
You noticed Katniss stopping behind you as you turned to see if anything was wrong she yelled ”Peeta! NO!” and right behind you there was a bang and you were knocked to the ground by Peeta flying backwards.
You sat up and saw Katniss crawling over to Peeta repeating his name slowly as he lay motionless on the ground. You then heard her say in a panicy voice ”He’s not breathing”, Finnick ran over to him and started doing mouth to mouth resuscitation. You crawled over to see what was happening.
After a while he woke up again and you all started to move slowly but Katniss was now in the lead, she threw small rocks at the barrier so that you could navigate how close you were to it.
Katniss told the 4 of you to wait while she climbed up a tree to see your location and if she could find fresh water. When she got down she told you that you were on the edge of the arena and that she couldn’t find any water.
Finnick suggested that you should set up camp and sleep, he said he could take first watch to guard the others to which Katniss disagreed which in turn made Finnick upset since he literally saved Peeta.
Honestly you were tired of both of them so you rolled your eyes and walked away to find somewhere decent to sleep.
You found a spot close to Mags where you laid down and shut your eyes but that didn’t last long as you heard the anthem playing and you looked up and saw the faces of the fallen tributes.
When you saw the face of the man from district 9 you felt ashamed. You wondered if he had a lover or children at home who had to watch him bleed to death from a knife to the throat.
You turned around so you lay on your other side and your y/c/e met with Mags kind eyes and she gave you a small smile as if she had read you mind which you returned shyly.
(A/N: I had to stop a second just for some Mags appreciation because she’s one of my favorite characters in the hunger games universe.)
You closed your eyes again trying to sleep but you then heard something hit the ground you sat up and looked to Katniss and Finnick who had gone to inspect the noise.
It turned out to be a sponsor gift, you stood up and walked over to them. Katniss held a small silvery thing. ”What is it?” Finnick asked. ”It’s from Haymitch…… I think it’s a spile” Katniss answered.
”A what?” Both you and Finnick asked as Katniss stood up and found a tree and started banging on the spile with a rock hitting it in to the tree.
You all waited for a moment but soon water started trickling down from the spile. Katniss caught some in her mouth and told the others to get some, first Peeta got some, then Finnick and the you.
You were on you knees infront of the spile, you got a mouthful of water. Finnick walked up beside you with a small smile and said ”As much as i like seeing you on your knees, can you move over a little? I need some more water for Mags”. You laughed a little and moved aside.
”Seems like someone has gotten his wittiness back” you said and Finnick gave a small laugh and started filling a leaf he had shaped like a bowl for Mags.
After that you went to your previous resting place and laid down to sleep again. You were woken up at some point by what sounded like a gong and the sound of lightning but you managed to get back to sleep.
You were woken up by the sound of Katniss screaming, you quickly got up and pulled out your close combat knife. You saw no one but Katniss, she was laying on the ground whimpering and there was a closing in behind her.
”Run! Run! The fog is poisonus” she yelled you helped Mags get up as Finnick crouched down to get her up on his back. When she was safely up you started running following Katniss and Peeta.
You passed Katniss and Peeta as being quick was sort of your specialty.
It was hard to know where to go as almost everywhere you turned the fog seemed to be coming closer. You heard falling behind you and saw that Katniss had fallen over but Peeta had helped her up. Then a little bit after that Peeta fell over and Katniss helped him up, you turned around to come to their aid but you heard Finnick screaming and saw him falling over.
You ran to Finnick to help him get up but by the time you got there he was already up and he had gotten Mags back up on his back. You grabbed him by the arm and helped him away from the fog. You and Finnick saw that Peeta had fallen over once again from exposure to the fog.
You and Finnick ran to him and Katniss. ”I can’t carry him, Peeta please” she said with tear stained eyes. You tried to help carry Peeta but it was no use you weren’t strong enough.
Behind you heard Finnick saying ”Mags? Mags?” You turned around and saw Mags walking right into the fog (like the boss she is).
(R.I.P Queen, both the actress and character)
”MAGS!” Finnick screamed and the came the sound of canon. You grabbed Finnick by the arm and Katniss told him that we need to leave.
Finnick helped pick up Peeta as you picked up Peeta’s machete and started cutting away plants that were in the way. The others staggerd away from the fog, you ran to Katniss side to try help her keep up.
You feel the fog touching you back as immense pain shoot through you whole body and then the 4 of you fell… not because the fog though but because there was a huge drop that you hadn’t noticed.
When you land you just lay on the ground twitching and flinching from the pain.
After a while you hear Katniss saying ”The water, the water helps”. You tried to get up but you body was like on lockdown. You hear them helping Finnick into the water, Finnick tries to let out a scream but gets water in his mouth.
Peeta comes to you and drags you up into a sitting positon saying ”Come on” as if he’s talking to a child but it was strangely comforting. He then pulls you into the pond making you let out a scream from a sudden sharp pain but the pain slowly starts to fade away.
The group takes a little brake now to rest and you can’t help but to whisper a little ”thank you” to Mags.
You then hear Katniss saying to Finnick ”I’m sorry about Mags”. Finnick answered by saying ”She was never gonna make it….so”.
Finnick then turned his attention to something behind Katniss, you turned around and saw some sort of monkey like creature staring at you, whatever they were they didn’t look friendly so you pulled out your combat knife in one hand and a throwing one in the other.
All 4 of you stood in the little pond surrounded by the mutts, you were all waiting for one to attack. ”Get to the beach” Katniss said and turned towards a path that lead towards the cornucopia but the mutts started looking more aggressive.
One tried to jump at Katniss but was cut down by Peeta which made more start to attack.
You weren’t really that well equipped to deal with animals but you tried your best. A mutt tried to jump at you but you kicked it in the face and threw a knife at it.
Another one ran towards you so threw a knife at it’s arm making it shriek in pain and you ran over and stabbed it with the combat knife.
”We need to get to the beach” Peeta said as he and Katniss started moving in the beaches directon, you started following him and Katniss and made sure Finnick was keeping up.
You made you way through the difficult terrain while trying to avoid the mutts. You did your best to hit then with your knives but the didn’t pack enough of a punch to kill them unless they were hit in sensitive areas.
You were tackled by a mutt which made you fall to the ground. It crawled onto you about to maul your face off but you stabbed it in the stomach and twisted the knife.
You threw it’s dead body off of you and got up, you saw Katniss and Peeta carrying someones body to the beach, you turned your head back and saw Finnick fending of the mutts. Your mind raced for a second if Finnick is there and Peeta and Katniss are fine the who’s body was that.
You ran over to Finnick who was slowly making his way to the beach backwards with the mutts following him, only held back by his trident. You stood by his side swinging your blade at any mutt that comes to near you two.
Finnick then whispered to you ”At my signal grab my hand”, you nodded.
”Now” he said and you grabbed his hand and the two of you started sprinting towards the beach while the mutts chased yoy, when you got near enough you and Finnick dove on to the beach sand.
You and Finnick quickly got up and pointed your weapons at the mutts that where now on the edge of the jungle where the beach began. You then heard a canon going off and the mutts then started making their way into the jungle once more.
You put you knife in the holster at your leg and then turned to Finnick. You threw your arms around him in a hug, Finnick put his big arms around and you leaned you head against the older males shoulder.
It was hard putting a label on yours and Finnick’s relationship. You had met during part of your victory tour in district 4, you were attending a dinner in your honor.
You had excused yourself to go to the public bathroom during the dinner. You had no need to actually use the bathroom. You just needed to get away from the people who had celebrated the fact that you had killed people.
You started having a bit of a nervous breakdown in the bathroom, you were crying, splashing water in your face trying to calm down but you felt like you needed to scream.
One of the toilet stalls had opened and Finnick steped out. He went to the sink to wash his hands and while doing so he noticed your red eyes and trembling hands and he asked if you were okay.
And you spilled everything to him and told him how you were feeling, he put an arm around you, he told you he somtimes felt like that as well and told you how he usually copes with it.
He had told you that if you didn’t want to finish the dinner he could go out and tell everyone you weren’t feeling well and have you escorted back to the train.
But you said you wanted to try to get through the dinner as long as he was there to help you. He agreed to be there with you and you managed to get through the whole thing.
After that Finnick was basically your bestie and you guys would come to each other for emotional support.
And last year during the 74th hunger games while you both were in the capitol, you had been hanging out at his apartment the capitol give the victors while they visit for the games.
While hanging out things got a bit steamy between the two of you and you ended up hooking up, the day after the two of you kinda acted like it never happened and things got a bit awkward between you and him.
But being back in to the arena had stirred up feelings for him you had buried. While in the arena most people will latch onto whatever makes them feel safe and Finnick made you feel safe.
You finally let go of Finnick and you noticed a hover craft picking up the body Peeta and Katniss had taken in to the water. Finnick told you he was gonna go try to catch some fish food, you nodded at this and walked over to Katniss and Peeta.
”Who body was it they picked up?” you asked. ”The female morphling” Peeta answered in a saddend voice. You sat down in the sand, the 4 of you had almost died 3 times (+ 1 for Peeta) in less than 24 hours and it was exhausting.
Finnick had managed to catch a fish and found some oysters that you were now eating. Peeta found a pearl and gave it to Katniss.
You then heard a scream coming from the jungle, ”That’s new” Peeta said and you heard a thundering noise.
Out of the jungle came a huge wave of water and you heard a canon going off. The wave was so big it washed up on the beach.
You then saw a hover craft lifting away the body.
After it had flown away you heard Katniss say ”Someone is hear”. You immediately looked in the direction Katniss had been looking and saw another tribute on the beach and two other tributes emerging from the jungle, you backed up slowly.
”Johanna?” Finnick whispered and ran out of hiding towards Johanna shouting her name, ”Finnick!” she yelled back and the two embraced each other. You made your way towards them and waved Johanna.
Johanna told the 4 of you how she, Wiress, Beetee and Blight, her district partner, had been wandering the jungle when it had started raining blood on them to the point where they could barely see and were choking on it. Then blight had hit the forcefield and passed away.
Wiress was stumbling around murmering the words ”Tick-tock” to herself, Wiress tried to get Johanna’s attention but she ignored her.
”What’s wrong with her?” Katniss asked referring to Wiress. ”She’s in shock, dehydration isn’t helping” Beetee answered and the asked ”You have fresh water?”
”We can get some” Katniss answered as Johanna had started getting fed up with Wiress saying ”Tick-Tock” to her. ”Listen stop it!” Johanna said loudly while grabbing a hold of Wiress.
”Hey! Get of her” Katniss yelled as Wiress fell to the ground. Katniss stromed passed you and started fighting with Johanna. ”Hey!, what are you doing” Johanna asked as Katniss got up in her face but before things could escalate Peeta and Finnick had pulled them apart.
You got the spile and hit it in to a tree so that the others could get freshwater. You took a big leaf and shaped it like a bowl and got some water for Beetee who was working with some sort of wire. Katniss and Wiress then came excitedly and said that the arena was a clock with different obstacles every hour.
You all decided to go to the cornucopia to stock up on weapons, you had decided to get something more lethal than just knives just in case something comes up.
Katniss was trying to go through what happens during every hour that we know off. When you arrived at the Cornucopia you refilled your knife supply and picked up a nice sword. The others were drawing up a map of the zones and the drew the threats we knew about tsunami, lightning, blood rain, fog and mutts.
Then came a loud gasp from Wiress who was being stabbed in the back by the male tribute from district 10 (you know since your here instaed of Gloss). Katniss was quick to shoot an arrow hitting him right in the chest killing him almost instantly.
Another figure had appeared it was Cashmere she had a knife in her hand. She was on her way to attack Katniss but Johanna pushed her out of the way and plunged her axe right in Cashmere’s chest.
Right as she hit the ground there came clang of metal against metal and you saw Brutus attacking Finnick and Peeta. Enobaria then suddenly appears and throws a knife at Finnick cutting his arm. You quickly draw a knife throwing at Enobaria cutting her shoulder.
Enobaria and Brutus start running away from the cornucopia. You, Katniss and Johanna run to follow them but as you do the island the cornucopia is located on starts spining and you all fall to the ground.
You take out a knife in one hand and stab it in to the ground to try to keep you from sliding of the island, you manage to get a good grip with your hand as well.
You hear struggling behind you and see Johanna struggling to keep a hold of Katniss’ hand, she lost her grip and Katniss fell into the raging water.
The island then stopped spining and Katniss climbed up on one of the spokes and started coughing up water. Johanna and Peeta checked that she was okay.
She was fine and your group left the island and went back to the beach, you all sat down on the beach to stratergize. Other than the group there was 3 people left in the games Chaff, Brutus and Enobaria.
They were all outnumbred so they probably won’t try to attack us. Johanna suggested that we hunt them down but then you heard a scream ”Ahhh!!! Katniss,Help me!!!” which made Katniss scream in return ”Prim!!! Prim!!!” as she ran into the jungle.
You all ran to follow her Finnick was in front you were right behind him but then you hit something almost like when you run in to a glass door, it was an invisible forcefield. ”Y/n!Are you okay?” You heard Peeta saying as you sat up.
”Yeah” you said as he helped you up. You tried to touch the forcefield, it was as solid as a brick wall. Soon Katniss and Finnick came running back with a bunch of birds following them but they couldn’t get through the forcefield and were stuck on the other side.
You had to wait an hour until the birds flow away and the forcefield disappeared. You ran over to Finnick to check on him. ”Are you okay? You asked putting a hand on his shoulder. ”Yeah, i’m fine” he said weakly.
You the heard Johanna say something about ”Riots in the damn capitol” she then yelled ”Hey! How does that sound Snow! What if we.. What if we set your backyard on fire?! You know you can’t put everybody in here!!!”. You were all looking at Johanna speechless at her open disrespect of President Snow.
”What?… they can’t hurt me, there’s no one left that i love” Johanna said and walked away to get Katniss some water. That left you feeling bad for Johanna, sure she may be a bit rude at times but she’s nowhere near as bad as some people make her out to be.
You helped Finnick stand up and your group made their way back to the beach once more. Finnick went and sat down in the shallow part of the water. You were torn whether you should go to him or not, maybe he wanted to be alone.
But then you remembered how he had been there for you during your victory tour, so you went out into the water and sat down beside him. ”Did you hear her?” You asked referring to Annie.
Finnick gave you a small nod. You didn’t know what more to say, but you didn’t need to cause Finnick started speaking ”I also heard you”. You gave him a questioning look ”Really?”
”Yeah, even though in knew you were there right infront of me, it was still torture to have to hear you screaming my name for help, I had to open my eyes just to check that you were okay” Finnick said turning his attention from the water to you. You grabbed his hand gently and said ”I’m okay, thanks to you”. You and Finnick’s heads were leaning close to eachother but then came a shout ”Finnick!” ”Y/n” it was Johanna she waved for you to come over.
You and Finnick got up and walked over to the others and the group made a plan to use the wire Beetee had gotten to hopefully electrecute the careers.
A few hours went by and the sun started to go down. You were sitting in the wet sand watching Finnick swinging around his trident lightly. Then you heard the noise of something hitting the ground near you, you turned around.
A little bit inside the jungle you saw a silver capsule, you went into the junge and got it. You opened it and knew immediately what it was. You turned to the others and yelled at them to come over. You showed them that you had gotten bread from district 1.
You gave everyone their fair share of the bread, ”District 1 is known for using cinnamon and huckleberries in their bread” you informed them though the only one who actually seemed to care what your district used in their bread was Peeta.
Then it was time to leave to go to the lightning tree and once again you were making your way through the thick jungle terrain.
Then you heard the anthem playing and you looked up in the sky to see the pictures of the fallen tributes. You felt a bit sad when you saw Cashmere up there and realised even if you got out of the arena Gloss would kill you.
But it felt worse seeing Wiress and Mags up there. They had both been very kind people and they shouldn’t have been in here in the first place. You felt something inside you almost as if it was catching fire (A/N:😉) a new hatred for the capitol.
You continued moving until you reached the lightning tree and Beetee started doing his thing and wrapping the tree with the bronze colored wire. He then told you, Katniss and Johanna to go with the spool of wire to the beach, throw it into the water and go to the tree in the 2 o’clock sector.
”I’m gonna go with them as a guard” Peeta said probably not wanting to leave Katniss. ”Nonono, your staying here to protect me… and the tree”. Beetee opposed. ”No i need to go with her” Peeta said stubbornly.
”There are two careers out there, i need two guards” Beetee said. ”Finnick can protect just fine on his own” Peeta said and you and Finnick gave eachother a knowing look. Then Katniss butted in saying ”Yeah, why can’t Finnick, Y/n and Johanna stay with you and Peet and I will take the chord”.
”You all agreed to keep me alive till midnight, correct?” Beetee asked in a annoyed tone. ”It’s his plan we all agreed to it” Johanna said clearly starting to get annoyed as well. ”Is there a problem here?” Finnick asked. ”Excellent question” Beetee said as you were all staring down Peeta and Katniss.
”No, there’s no problem” Katniss said in a defeated manner and walked over to Peeta and gave him a kiss. After they finished you said ”Good idea” and walked over to Finnick and kissed him, you could feel him kiss back and put his arms around your waist.
After you pulled away you said with a weak smile ”You know just incase we never see eachother again”. ”Alright, let’s go” Johanna said. You walked over to her and put an arm around her shoulder saying jokingly ”Incase your feeling left out i can give you a quick kiss too”, Johanna only rolled her eyes but let out a small chuckle.
You, Johanna and Katniss made your way to the beach once more the same way you came. After a while of walking Johanna said ”Come on, i wanna put as much distance between me and this beach as possible, frying is not how i wanna go” but then came another sound from the spool it had stopped putting out wire.
”There’s something…” Katniss said and looked in the direction the wire came from but saw nothing then something pulled the wire and cut it off. Katniss immediately threw aside the spool and pulled out an arrow but Johanna grabbed the spool and hit her over the head with it.
You were kinda lost on what to do but Johanna got you to kneel down beside her and took your combat knife and started cutting up Katniss’ arm open, then it dawned on you the arm with the tracker, the plan to get Katniss out was set into motion.
You grabbed Katniss arm so that she wouldn’t try to fight it, Johanna smeared blood on Katniss’ throat to make her look like she was dying. ”Stay down” she whispered to Katniss and sat up and threw her axe against Brutus and Enobaria who were on their way. ”Come on” Johanna said to you and you followed her as you ran with careers chasing you.
It was hard to keep up with Johanna in this terrain. You then felt a sudden sharp pain in your side and saw that you had gotten a cut that was now bleeding, you guessed that Enobaria must have thrown a knife. You looked up to see where Johanna had gone but she must not have noticed you slowing down because you couldn’t see her.
You turned around and saw that only Enobaria was on your trail now. You drew your sword just in time to deflect another knife coming your way, she drew her sword as well.
The sound of clashing swords came as she made a slash at you which you blocked. You went back and forward with her for a while slashing, stabbing, cutting but neither managed to kill the other.
Enobaria then made stab at your hand cutting it open so that blood started spilling out, you tried to fight with one hand but she easily disarmed you. You turned around and started running since there wasn’t much else you could do.
You managed to put some fair distance between you and her, not enough to get rid of her but enough so you could draw a knife and throw it at the hand she kept her sword in which caused her to drop it but that didn’t stop her as she drew a knife from her vest.
You did the same bracing yourself for her. The two of you pounced at eachother like tigers, colliding in the air and laying on the ground wrestling for dominance, she had gotten on top of you and tried to stab you but you grabbed the hand she kept her knife in and used your other hand to grab her hair.
You pulled it with all your strength and managed to roll over so that you were on top of her, you held her down and punched her across the face. She still managed to grab you and roll you over so she was on top of you again and she the showed you her fang like teeth.
She was starting to lean down probably about to rip your throat out with her bare teeth but something had distracted her, you seized your moment and noticed you were right beside a steep slope. So with all the power in your body you grabbed a hold of her and threw her off of you and down the slope.
You got up quickly and looked at what had distracted her and saw that it was a blue glowing wire pointing right up into the sky or what used to be the sky but was now just a gray dome.
Your brain put some kind of scenario together that this was part of the plan so you started making you way towards the source of the glowing wire but it was hard you were still bleeding and you were exhausted from your fight with Enobaria.
You staggerd towards the lightning tree but your body couldn’t take anymore and you collapsed, you looked up at the gray dome and saw that it was starting to fall apart. That made you smile and you thought to yourself ”Thank you, Mockingjay” and then it faded to black.
(A/N: Don’t worry you didn’t die at the end, but please give this a like or reblog it took like a lot of time write and i really tried my best, there might be some grammatical errors in there but deal with it)

yeah, this is gonna be a trainwreck. here’s @bandagegirl ‘s and my GHS headcanon masterpost. our goal was to have at least 3 per character, if not more. we kinda had to group the last few characters together in the end, though. it’ll be split up in categories between the characters in the Game, then Anime-Only, and then overall Worldbuilding at the end as for easier reading.
Game Characters
Gregory
the Lost World/Gregory House is Gregory’s own manifestation through loneliness and envy. (see Worldbuilding)
he’s WAY older than a grandfather of James. he’s more of a great-great-great-great grandfather, but it’s easier to just call him grandpa.
he’s been long dead in reality for years. always constantly dreaming and manifesting his Lost World and eventually never woke up.
there is almost 0 records of him from reality. because of this, there is no clear time period he originated in, unlike the guests.
he’s a collector. he loves historically significant antique items to put on a shelf and learn all about.
as taken from the manga, his favorite historical subject is War.
he suffered from frequent night terrors as a teenager, making it difficult to sleep before the manifestation of the Lost World.
while he usually tries to set up a weekly chore schedule for the residents in the hotel, he usually ends up doing everything himself (both because the guests throw in the towel very quickly and that Gregory wants to do everything right).
his magic abilities include teleportation and immortality, but he’s still very prone to injury.
Gregory Mama
she’s actually a manifestation within the Lost World that Gregory used to cope/punish himself with.
has the tendency to adopt new guests as family members only to eat them/their souls later. this also applies to Gregory attempting to manifest new family members in the past, to which he stopped after Gregory Mama has shown to steal their souls each time.
obviously, she’s not Gregory’s real mother, rather a personification of the abuse Gregory suffered in reality.
as young children usually don’t use their parents real name often, she doesn’t have a real name.
James
he’s a child who escaped reality after discovering a forgotten family member (Gregory) in very old family photos; having little to no relation to the rest of the family.
plus, hearing rumors of a hotel that only appeared during moonless nights only encourage him to take on a challenge.
since he’s related to Gregory (even if it’s very distant), his monster transformation was a lot faster, becoming a full rat in little under a month.
he LOVES horror movies, especially slasher films. he might be a little too influenced by them.
he owns a large range of weapons, from toy water guns to actual chainsaws. that doesn’t mean he’ll use them responsibly, though.
he’s a very smart kid, even to the point where he can be manipulative to both the kids and the adults. he’ll even convince other kids to take the blame for him whenever he starts problems.
his parents from reality miss him very much.
Catherine
in reality, Catherine was a German nurse in the 1940’s during WW2.
as a human, she was actually afraid of the sight of blood and would get lightheaded whenever she had to treat a soldier’s wounds. however, as a determined nurse, she tried her hardest to become tolerant of blood. tolerance became fondness and fondness became obsession to the point where she was hurting her patients just to see blood again.
she is attracted to both men and women, however she experiences internalized biphobia. due to this, she’s desperate to find true love with a man while specifically trying to avoid romantic relationships with women.
she knows how to take care of children.
she molts her skin during periods of time, you know, since she’s a lizard.
she didn’t gain magic powers along with her transformation, but instead gained physical strength.
Cactus Gunman and Cactus Girl
both originated in the Mexican revolution, especially around 1910.
Gunman had been shot in the chest a few times in his life and surprisingly survived each of them.
Gunman’s personality completely changed once he arrived in Gregory House with his sister, becoming a paranoid coward from the brave “hero” he made himself out to be.
they both grow seasonal flowers in the springtime. Gunman grows one large red flower on his head, which he hides with his hat in the spring time. he prefers to only show to his potential lover. Cactus Girl grows smaller white flowers in her hair.
Gunman is in dire need of glasses.
Gunman is quite fond of gardening, and loves to talk about flora. sometimes, Lost Doll will accompany him in the courtyard while he weeds.
they would die for each other, so don’t cross them.
Cactus Girl can shoot better than Gunman, but prefers her lasso and other melee weapons. she’s sworn off using guns after the revolution.
Cactus Girl has the ability to spawn in zones in smaller closed areas, such as turning her hotel room into Cactus Land; sort of like a pocket dimension. it’ll disappear as soon as she leaves the room.
sometimes, they both don’t need to eat due to the occasional Photosynthesis, and can go a long time without water.
Hell’s Chef
he worked as a highly regarded chef in Russia at a fancy restaurant, with mixed European family origins.
him and Mirror Man were coworkers of some sort.
he came from a long line of wrestlers, but broke family tradition to cook as a passion and career.
he died after the restaurant went up in flames.
his throat is still scratchy and rough from the incident, so he isn’t much of a talker. not to mention the language barrier and that he’s still attempting to learn the language everyone else speaks in Gregory House.
while the appearance of his meals look absolutely irredeemable, Chef’s cooking is actually very tasty; so much that you almost can’t taste the poison. he prefers making meals that are hearty and savory, rather than “looking good”.
he prefers to do all the food shopping and butchering. nobody knows the best ingredient selections like he does.
like Catherine, all of this “magic ability” went to his incredible strength.
most, if not all of his body is made out of wax, with vein like wick all throughout the body, giving him general bodily structure.
Neko Zombie
(see Worldbuilding)
Clock Master and My Son
My Son was a stillborn in reality; the death of him and his mother gave Clock Master an alcohol addiction and depression.
1960 is the year My Son and CM's wife died, making it when time stopped for CM. he’s sort of “stuck” in 1960 in a way, which is why the year is plastered on both of their foreheads.
My Son was technically "born" in Gregory House.
when Clock Master came to Gregory House, an infant My Son was already waiting in his room. Because the child died before getting a name, CM referred to him as My Son.
while CM's time abilities are getting worse with age, they never were great to begin with due to the Lost World's unusual flow of time.
My Son's time abilities on the other hand have the potential to be the most powerful ability out of everyone's when he gets older, being able to play multiple timelines at the same time and even rewriting reality. this is due to being born in the Lost World, so his ability has adapted to Gregory House’s “time” system.
Judgement Boy + Gold
instead of a singular character, Judgement Boys are classified as a “species” considering there are multiple of them, with more being produced in the Judgement Factory daily. there is not a singular JB.
the Judgement Factory in Gregory House is a sub-factory of a much bigger Core Factory, where it branches off into different zones and other manifestations. There are countless Judgement Factories in existence, all with numerous JBs being produced and trained.
Judgement Boy Gold is an individual one-of-a-kind model, however, there are more in the “Metal” series similar to him in different factories with a variety of training jobs.
JBs came into existence after a lawyer in the early 2000’s won a court case that suppressed the rights and safety of these assembly line workers in a Toy Factory, which caused hundreds of workers to be injured or even killed. realizing the consequences of his actions, he spiraled downwards into insanity and ended up in Gregory House, rarely leaving his hotel room and eventually manifesting the Factory.
most models or designs of a Judgement Boy are based off of toys; one of the very few things reflected from the lawyer’s fatal court case.
the standard JB’s appearance is a bastardized caricature of the original lawyer, only with added cages and robotic features. the lawyer began transforming into a red monster with sharp teeth and claws, but never saw the results as he disappeared into the Core Factory one day, never to be seen again.
see @ask-factory and the #extended factory tag for a more extensive story.
Mummy Family
Mummy Papa, Mummy Dog, and Mummy Mama originated somewhere in the 1980’s.
the reason they’re in Gregory House is an overlap of death and the fact that Mummy Papa was unintentionally poisoning the 3, leading to ending up in the hotel as a “punishment”.
they’re Bloodhounds.
Mummy Papa loves to collect weapons and owns a saber collection, especially older historically significant ones.
Mummy Dog enjoys morbid facts and likes to tell the other children about death.
Mummy Papa has Münchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which is triggered when the sword shifts in his head. because of this, he keeps himself and the rest of his family sicker with unclear motives, perhaps to have the ability brag about their ailments. (more details here)
Mummy Mama suffers from more immune-system based illnesses and anemia while the other two deal with physical and phantom pain, which they all pass off as colds.
the plant in Mummy Mama’s head is a parasite, and needs to be fed directly to continue living if Mummy Mama gets too weak. (the plant prefers blood)
TV-Fish
one of the few characters classified as a species.
TV Fish have a wide variety of fish or other sea creatures they can be. the TV Fish in Gregory House are much smaller.
some TV Fish don’t even have to be TVs. some can be other electronic appliances just as long as they’re combined with a fish skeleton.
they can be found across other Zones and places besides the Lost World, some with localized and native species differing from what we already seen.
TV Fish are an invasive species in the Lost World.
they’re attracted to people with better memory. a person more intact and in touch with their memories could attract an entire school of TV Fish!
Roulette Boy
practically a God, Roulette Boy has reality bending powers.
however, since he follows his own rules strictly, he sets limits on himself as to only use them for his games, and won’t apply them to himself since he’s the Game Master.
nobody knows what the “rules” he follow are, but he restrains himself on what he can do while hosting a game. though, once you’re in his game, it’s almost a free-for-all and he can change you to be whatever pawn he sees fit until the game is over.
while RB prefers traditional board games, nothing’s stopping him from hosting RPGs or other turn-based video games (as seen in Lost Qualia.) he also loves gacha games and gambling.
when not hosting a game, he likes to roleplay.
Angel/Devil Dog
she is not a guest in Gregory House, neither a manifestation of the Lost World. she is a messenger from an entire separate outside world/reality, and she’s always been Angel Dog.
her, Death, and Gregory have been around equally the longest.
her and Gregory have a long history of rivalry. she’s always meddling in the Lost World and trying to let souls out a backdoor. whether she’s doing it to free them, or just to piss off Gregory, depends on her mood.
Angel Dog has a solid grasp on reality, however, her reality is different from the guests. it’s why her and Neko Zombie get along.
she doesn’t have a split personality disorder, as she chooses to become Devil Dog whenever she feels like it. her decision making is very emotion-based.
she’s a Dachshund!
Devil Dog likes soccer, and Angel Dog likes american football.
Lost Doll
ever since coming to the Lost World, she has either stopped aging altogether or she ages very slowly, as most object-based guests do.
she’s a wooden marionette with the ability to change her size.
in reality, she belonged to a very poor family who could only afford a few outdated wooden toys, which is why Katie was so special to her.
she’s good friends with James, even if she’s usually the one falling victim to his pranks. sometimes, when Katie takes over, it can be the other way around.
she has poor volume control and tends to shout when she’s excited or provoked.
she’s the youngest guest.
Death
Death, like Gregory Mama, is a manifestation of a part of Gregory's life.
he was created from Gregory’s favorite comfort movie, The Seventh Seal.
Death used to work in Gregory House as a doorman, welcoming the guests and wishing them goodbye, but fleed when Gregory Mama appeared and got rid of all other "manifestations".
his goal is to free Gregory's soul and end the Lost World, which is only possible if Gregory is the only person left.
Anime Characters
Dr.Fritz
Dr.Fritz is also German like Catherine, but came a little later in time.
back in reality, his body slowly stop responding, so he illegally tried to build himself a new body. that new body wasn’t fully ready yet when he decided to transplant his own brain when he was wheelchair bound and starting to lose arm control, so it was a very long process.
because of his condition, doctors either didn’t treat him correctly or flat out ignored his problems, so he has a strong mistrust to other doctors, which is why he wanted to operate on himself. the other doctors said there was nothing they could do, but he had other plans in mind.
he was there for the Berlin wall falling, and still has a piece of it as a keepsake.
he falls apart easily and has to re-sew body parts or snap his neck back into place. Catherine helps put him back together (in return, Fritz helps her shed.)
Catherine calls him Fritzchen on occasion.
he documents the species of the patients he treats out of curiosity and hopes to help them better. his treatments may be considered “unethical” but he knows for certain that if it’s to cure or treat the patient, he’ll go great lengths to break any rule in the medical field.
Mono Eye Wizard + Frog Fortune Teller
both are canonically married to each other, i just wanted to make sure everyone knew :]
Mono Eye Wizard wears a helmet, and he’s also an amphibian with one eye underneath his robe.
both are very interested and knowledgeable in the Magical and Paranormal side of the Lost World.
both held onto their souls for longer than most people, but lost them in the end.
Wizard is normally very powerful, he just SUCKS at summonings. (plus, he’s a little bit of an idiot)
on the other hand, Frog Fortune Teller isn’t very powerful, but she is very smart (and stubborn). she’s almost always right, especially if it’s a bad thing she predicted.
Wizard, and other characters such as Musha Dokuro and Egypetit all worship the same Dark Lord.
the little horned skeletons in Wizard’s cult are also classified as a species. sometimes, he allows in other interested members.
Wizard is fluent in latin.
Second Guest
the Second Guest, as shown at the end of the season two, has the silhouette of a rat. that’s her actual form; a shadow.
her “job” is to eavesdrop on other guests to go and report to Gregory Mama.
she’s very fast, quiet, hard to catch, and a big snitch.
the others call her “Hello Sister” as a title, while Gregory Mama calls her “My Lovely Daughter.”
her cigarette embers still glow on the wall, which is one of the only signals she’s in the room, especially in a poorly lit one.
usually only Gregory, James, and Mama can “hear” what she’s saying.
Chef strongly dislikes her and Lost Doll avoids her like the plague.
Prompters
a pair of indistinguishable twins, escaping reality after being rejected of their dream to become famous theater actors. both young adults.
they work multiple part time jobs, including helping out in the Judgement Factory in the hotel and Kabuki's theater, along with Poor Conductor’s performances.
they share drinks at the bar. their favorite drink is a raspberry/strawberry milkshake with two cherries. don’t forget to give them two straws!
they’re both learning how to cook with Hell’s Chef. so far, they can dice onions very well. :]
Public Phone
he’s in the Lost World as a punishment for being a greedy thief in reality.
he can create fake alibis, passports, various cards in addition to faking voices.
he’s drinking pals with Clock Master.
he takes any currency, just nothing fake. only HE can be the swindle here.
he’s a perverted little bitch.
Various Species
Haniwa Salarymen are classified as species, created from overworked businessmen in reality. The occurrence of them are very common, and season 1 happens to focus on one of them.
Black Ducks are a species, specializing in working kiosks, amusement parks, and other booths. Speed Mouse is never seen without a team of Black Ducks. Street Vendors sometimes accompany them.
Musha Dokuro are an invasive species to the Lost World.
Trap Mice are a (rare) artificial species built in the Lost World.
Dead Bodies are also classified as a species. they are the result of Death freeing an individual’s soul, leaving a husk/empty body behind.
species like these show up in reality to those who are close to their visit in the Lost World, appearing in the background or the corner of their eye, replacing real people.
individuals in all of those species are not visible/noticable until you interact and get close with them. they’re like NPCs.
Others
Wooden Lizard was Captain Wood’s favorite keychain that came to life.
Fat Chicken is an omnivore. He can and will eat anything.
(see here for Pig Gentleman and Mirror Man.)
Mirror Man can summon his own pocket dimension.
Kinko and Inko know more than they lead on, and Kinko is definitely much more powerful, but he can’t be bothered to do anything about it. he’s lazy.
Inko smokes cigars, but hates cigarettes.
Earth Man (from Lost Qualia) is non-verbal. he’s also very eco friendly!
Hell’s Taxi is a manifestation of a false sense of hope to escape the Lost World. it can also manifest in Reality to pick up new guests.
Egypetit’s head is made up of Gold, a strong conductor of magic in the Lost World.
Poor Conductor was powerful enough to manifest his own room into the Lost World, rather than checking into the Hotel himself.
Unbaba is semi non-verbal and cannot remove his mask. he’s definitely powerful enough to make guests lose their souls.
Bonsai Kabuki needs to water his head frequently or else he’ll be drained of energy, and be unable to open his third eye.
The Rainbow Dragon fossils, which Bonehead is after, are cursed, and uses his wife’s voice to compel him into seeking after them to claim yet another victim.
Toilet Baby may not be as powerful, but he can still summon dangerous attacks related to pocket dimensions.
Sleepy Sheep is used as a vessel in his sleep for those who are powerful enough to enter dreams.
Worldbuilding
Gregory House was a real place back in Reality, and it originally belonged to Neko Zombie and his loving family.
However, years and years of built up envy and hatred from Gregory, a person who didn’t receive the same love and luxuries as Neko Zombie, manifested the Lost World as a way for him to cope with the things he didn’t have in Reality, bringing the house down with him.
The remains of the house in Reality is now a mere rumor in the town, but its influence spreads across many zones to this day.
Neko Zombie is the final remaining member of the original owners of the house.
Him and Gregory are LONG forgotten for generations in Reality.
Zones are a loose term in the Lost World, which could mean alternate realities, different dimensions, etc. The Lost World is a zone with its own manifestations.
Another Zone could have its own origins and realities. Reality is not a zone, if that makes sense.
A Zone itself can manifest as a single individual or object being the Core that keeps the zone existing. (See The Core Judgement Factory that branches off Sub-Factories into different Zones.)
The Lost World is a very large Zone that reaches and branches off into other Zones, pulling in individuals.
Because of Zonal shenanigans, time moves a lot differently in the Lost World.
awful hospital does a better job handling zones better than this, actually. we took a little bit of inspiration from it. see here and here for a better grasp on what i’m trying to say.

Deep in the dragon’s den
FAB-FIVE-FEB 2021 - Scott
Prompts used:  boat, “Are you kidding?” and cave
Finally managed to bash out and write up Scott’s week. Cave and boat came together beautifully in my head. Here are the young Tracy boy’s on a day out with Grandma (who is thoroughly enjoying herself).
*********
The boat jolted at the entrance of the cave. Scott sat back; eyes turned to the sky as the cave slowly swallowed them. The lapping of the water against the side of the boat would have been relaxing if they weren’t heading into the dark unknown. The waves hit the rock, occasionally sending spray into the air around them. Excited mutterings came from the seat in front of him. Alan was head of Gordon in the boat but was twisted so Gordon could whisper in his ear. Scott watched his youngest brother’s eyes widen and face fill with worry. Scott held back a groan, knowing all too well that Gordon was filling Alan’s head with lies. Glancing over his shoulder, he could see Virgil, John and Grandma in the boat behind them. Grandma waved, a giant smile on her face. She’ had deliberately made him go with the troublesome two and as if on cue, the boat began rocking from side to side. They disappeared from view as their boat continued to turn the corner.
“Gordon!” Alan squawked.
Scott turned forward to see the outline of Gordon kneeling and throwing his body from side to side to, with poor Alan holding on to the rail tightly. Scott grabbed Gordon’s shoulder and pulled him down, so he was sitting before hissing in his ear.
“Stop it, Gordon.”
“Spoilsport.”
His brother huffed and Scott rolled his eyes, though now they were in the pitch black he could barely make his brothers out. Their boat continued forward slowly, tension building inside him as his hands gripped the rail harder. His eyes scanned the darkness for anything that would give away what would happen next.
“Is something gonna happen?” Alan whispered.
“Of course!”
There was way too much glee in Gordon’s voice as it bounced of the walls around them. Their boat bumped to a halt and a small gasp came from Alan. They waited in the silence.
All at once bright lights flashed on in front of them, illuminating the dragon that was diving out towards them. Alan screamed, jumping back into Gordon who was cackling. Scott was glad he was behind them as he too had jumped, slightly, at the sudden movement.
“Who dares enter my cave?” A deep voice boomed, “Be warned, you’ll never leave alive!”
The lights went out as the sound of creaking gears informed Scott that the dragon was retracting. His death grip on the rail no longer felt like overkill as their little boat was tipped forward, sending the quickly under the dragon, and splashing water over the rim. The boat bobbed along a corridor lined with dim lanterns that barely lit their way. There was also an ethereal green glow along the stone walls, like there were luminescent bacteria growing along them. It was oddly pleasant to see, though felt a little out of place. Their boat turned a sharp corner and continued, heading straight for a rock wall. In the light of the fake lanterns, Scott could see Alan shaking as the wall got closer, only for it to lift out the way at the last second. Gordon laughed.
“It’s a ride, Alan. Nothing bad can happen.”
Alan still didn’t look sure, and Scott hated to admit he was still holding on tight, not entirely certain about the sudden jolts the ride seemed to spring on them. He was fifteen and should not be scared by a kid’s ride. However, this was no Wonderpark with its ultramodern high-tech rides that all his friends were raving about, and the actually park he’d asked to go to. This was an old clunky theme park his Grandma had gone to as a teen and had taken Dad to when he was young. Some of the rides were ancient, and Scott was not convinced by their safety record. The boat made its way through the room of shiny fake gold, treasure and jewels. It jostled them as it turned another corner and took them down yet another dark stone corridor. Halfway along, the tail of the dragon splashed down directly in front of their boat, which jarred as it an invisible barrier. Scott was thrust forward, almost colliding with the rest that separated him from his brothers. The tail rose before them, water dripping from the green spines. The boat continued its journey, though a drop of cold water hit the back of Scott’s neck as they passed beneath the tail. At the end of the corridor the boat was pulled up an incline, the clunk of the chain resounding around them as Gordon became more excited. They faced yet another dead end. An image of the dragon’s yellow reptilian eye blinked through a fake hole in the wall.
“You can’t escape now!”
The voice boomed. A creak came from their right and they all turned in time to see a giant claw reaching for them. As it came down, the boat was shunted to the left and the claw paused just where their boat had been. A roar echoed around them as the walls shook and their boat was pushed backwards down a ramp. Alan screamed. Gordon jeered. Scott’s jaw clenched as an almighty splosh came from behind him as the back of the boat hit still water. A tidal wave was thrown into the air and crashed down around Scott, drenching him. It was still dark as their boat was once again turned and started heading towards the sound of yet another chain. They floated along briefly before being pulled up another, longer incline. The eerie green glow was back, and in some places, it was so dense Scott could see the features on his brothers’ faces. Both were staring at him and burst out laughing.
“All that effort this morning, ruined on the second ride.”
Alan sniggered at his brother’s comment. Indeed, Scott’s neatly gelled hair was now plastered to the sides of his face. Deciding he needed to get a little bit of revenge, Scott shook his head vigorously trying to spray them with water. The younger boys just laughed, though he was smiling too. His brother was right, it had been a wasted effort. As their boat reached the top, daylight shone around the curve. The excitement in the boat began to build. It was time for the big drop. Scott grinned and his brothers fidgeted eagerly as they exit came into view, along with the sight of the whole park.
“You may have survived my cave, but you won’t survive the drop!”
Gordon and Alan cheered as their boat teetered towards the edge.
“I’m going to put my hands up.” Gordon stated proudly.
“No! Don’t. You’ll fall out.” Alan gasped.
Scott shook his head as the boat started to tilt. A second later, gravity took them. The air whipped Scott’s wet hair back as they sped down the slide. Adrenaline rushed through his veins as Gordon and Alan whooped. The front of their boat hit the water throwing it high into the air. Alan hollered as the water rained down on them, soaking them all to the bone. A glance at each other had them all laughing, as their boat made its way to the exit. As they were guided off, the splash of the next boat made Scott turn just in time to see the soaking of John, Virgil and Grandma. They raced to the photobooth meeting point, Alan and Gordon already checking out the photos on display, eagerly awaiting theirs. The others arrived shortly, and Gordon headed straight to Grandma.
“I need a copy of these photos.”
Grandma raised her eyebrow.
“Are you sure? You only get one set from me.”
“I’m certain.”
Scott left them to it, not too bothered by the photos, and turned to his other brothers.
“I can’t believe you actually wore that poncho, John.”
“Unlike some, I don’t want to spend the day in wet clothes.”
Scott stepped up and help Virgil pull the dripping poncho over John’s head, trying to keep him as dry as possible. They folded it into the bag John had brought specially. John had managed to stave of all but a few splashes.
“Let me see!”
Alan protested as Gordon admired his new fridge magnets. Scott headed over with his brothers to get a peek. The first one was of the three of them going down the final drop, big smiles on their faces and Gordon did indeed have his hands in the air. Scott had to admit it was a good one. The second, however, was taken at the appearance of the dragon, the flash hidden by the sudden blinding lights, and was much less flattering. Gordon was grinning, while Alan was a picture of wide-eyed shock. Scott groaned when his eyes fell on the image of his tense body and startled face. No wonder Gordon was so eager to have that one.
“I’m going to show them to all my friends.”
“Are you kidding?”
Scott turned away, knowing he was doomed. Gordon and his friends would be giggling over that magnet for months.

Interview with Adrien Agreste! Subject: The Oxygen Project.
Conducted by Alya Cesaire
Ok so I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this addition to a post I made on my main blog about Adrien low key trashing the Agreste brand the way Robert Pattinson does Twilight. I know it was meant to be more of a goofy idea but my head is full of angst and this is what I came up with at 4 a.m. lol.
Alya smiles warmly as Adrien settles into the seat across from her.
“Are you ready?” She asks. He gives her a slightly nervous smile but nods. She nods to Nino who hits record and Adriens face immediately smoothes over into a pleasant and unreadable mask. It’s actually a little freaky to watch.
It’s a Monday afternoon and they’re set up in the art room during their lunch period. Adrien looks as perfectly neutral as always. Non flashy designer labels and tousled hair that probably took 20 minutes to style. For once though, his actions will be a little less perfect and easy to swallow.
“Hi Adrien, thanks for agreeing to an interview on the Ladyblog, I’m glad we could finally do this.”
He smiles and considers for a moment before answering, tiling his head a degree, “The pleasure is mine Alya, especially since I’m the one who approached you about doing this.”
That’s true. Right after the class joined Mylene and Ivan for their protest of the Oxygen Project Adrien asked to speak with her. He was upset that he had been tricked into modeling for the project without knowing what it was for. While most of his die hard fans had gotten wind he didn’t support it, he wanted to farther remedy the situation and use his position to reach a wider audience. Of course there weren’t many platforms he could do that on behind his fathers back, hence asking for Alya’s help.
“Still, I know interviews aren’t your favorite. Otherwise I probably would have asked you a while ago.”
Adrien smiled again, a little more genuinely (the one she knew Marinette was so fond of), “I don’t really like probing questions from journalists about my personal life. The fact that you’ve never asked or taken advantage of knowing me means a lot. I trust you.”
“Personally I think it’s a little crazy you have to do all of those interviews at all. You’re only 15, your life shouldn’t be so public.”
Adrien lets the smile fall several degrees. It’s deliberate, he’s letting people see his discomfort, “Well, it kind of goes hand and hand with all of the modeling. I’m the face of the Agreste brand.”
Alya nods and looks down at the papers in her lap, “Which is the point of our interview today, really.” They had agreed on what was and wasn’t to be talked about before hand, however they don’t have a planned out dialogue. They agreed that they both do well with more organic conversation, and it’s important the interview comes off as very genuine.
Adrien nods in agreement and Alya continues, “Now that the plan for the Oxygen Project is officially canceled, it’s time to clear up what your involvement with the promotion of it was. Nearly everyone in Paris saw the ads that ran.” Unfortunately it had been to late for Mayor Bourgeois to cancel the first few days of ads. For nearly a week Adriens face played on every television in the city, telling everyone about what a great breath of fresh air the project would be.
Alya hands him the first photo in her lap. It’s of him with the class after they first arrived at the protest, looking interested but not particularly emotional yet. It’s from the video that she filmed, but there was a pretty low view rate on the protest coverage. The interview with Adrien will probably get anywhere from 3 to 5 times as many.
“What not everyone realizes is that you were present during the planned tree cutting ceremony and following protest. So what was going on for you at this point in the day Adrien?”
“Our whole class had just gone to the park to support Mylene and Ivan, our friends who lead the protest. Right after we arrived Mylene started arguing with the Mayor about whether the project was good for the environment or not.”
“That girl has a hidden fire!” Alya adds, “I have a section dedicated to activism on the blog now. The video from the whole day is there but I also posted some smaller segments explaining the conflict and a few more that Mylene recommended on how to get involved.”
Adrien gave his most genuine smile yet, “I watched those! I hope your viewers take the time to check them out. I know the super hero fights are exciting, I mean I’ve been glued to your blog from the start, but I’m glad people like Mylene and Ivan are reminding us to keep our eyes on the big picture too.”
Alya nods, “So am I. Ok, it was during this argument that the ad was first shown correct?”
Adrien lets the smile fall completely this time, “Yes. Apparently the plan was always to air it for the first time during the tree cutting ceremony. It was also the first time I’d seen it.”
“I’m sure most of our viewers have seen it already, so I’m not going to play it now,” Adrien shoots her a grateful look, “Adrien, she says kindly, “I remember how surprised you were when the ad played. Do you want to tell everyone why?”
Adrien looks down at his hands, “I hadn’t known what the ad was for when I filmed it. I thought it was another one of those silly perfume commercials.” Alya isn’t sure if him saying “silly” was a slip up or on purpose but she struggles not to laugh.
“Did someone tell you it was a perfume commercial or did you just assume when you were given the script?”
“I was told it was for perfume.”
“Can I ask who by?”
She thinks the discomfort is genuine this time. Everything else is the video isn’t that bad, but this line could bring hell for him.
“My father told me it was.”
This isn’t news for Nino or Alya but she pauses for a long moment to let viewers digest that before asking her next question, “Do you know why he lied to you?”
“I suppose he thought I wouldn’t be ok with doing it otherwise.”
Alya smiles, a little proud, before handing him another picture. She’ll edit them into the screen for viewers to see later, “Well he thought correctly. Here’s a picture of you standing with Mylene and our friend Marinette, forming a physical barrier so the trees wouldn’t be cut down,” she pauses for a moment while Adrien examines the picture, “I gotta say, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so angry.”
“I had just found out my image was going to be used to promote an anti-ecological plan that would harm our city. My friends had spent months trying to prevent it. I was furious.”
And Bam! As soon as she posts this video Adrien’s empty head, pretty face, good boy persona is shattered. He just admitted to having feelings. Angry ones. Directed at his father. Not to mention opinions on political matters. That is not the pretty face most of Paris is familiar with and fawns over.
“I’d be angry too,” Alya sympathizes.
Adrien puts the photo down and looks at her with a serious expression, “That’s the main reason I wanted to do this interview. For better or worse I have a lot of sway with my fans and public opinion. There’s still some controversy about the Oxygen Project being canceled so I want to be very clear that I do not stand with it,” he looks directly into the camera, “The oxygen project would have only helped the people profiting from it. The only ethical solutions for our city, and the whole world, are complicated, long term, sustainable options that will protect and rejuvenate our planet. No one has said it better than Mylene and Ivan so please go check out those videos under the activism section. Help if you can, and spread the word about the truth. It’s important that people know when they’re being lied to by a corporate campaign.”
Alya realized she stopped breathing for a moment because oh my god that was so good. She manages to quietly clear her throat and thank Adrien for the interview again. He plasters back on his polite smile and they give a brief hug before she gestures to Nino to stop filming.
“OH MAN! That was awesome!” Nino pulls Adrien into a one armed hug and doesn’t let go.
Adrien smiles a little bashfully, “You think? It wasn’t to much?”
“No way Adrien,” Alya cuts in, “the whole thing was great but that bit at the end? Amazing. Mylene will be thrilled.”
Nino pulls away from their friend a bit and clasps his shoulder, “Are you going to be ok though? Your old man is not going to be cool with like, any of that, is he?”
Adrien purses his lips and shrugs, “Don’t worry about my dad, I can handle him.”
Alya can see the fake nonchalance a mile away. Marinette is the queen of it after all, so she tells him, “Adrien this is really brave of you but I just want to make sure you know you’re in charge of this narrative. I probably won’t finish editing everything until tomorrow because I have a project to finish tonight. If you change your mind there’s no hard feelings. Or if there’s something you decide you want left out I’ll work some editing magic.”
Adrien smiles but her words don’t seem to relieve any tension, “Thanks Alya, it means a lot. By the way, where’s Marinette? I thought she was coming?”
“She’s probably just got caught up with something but I’ll see if she messaged me.” Alya checks her phone and realizes she left it on silent after the test last period. No texts from Marinette, but there is an akuma alert which explains her absence. She tries to ignore the immediate twinge of worry.
Adrien suddenly looks up from his own phone and rushes to grab his bag, “I actually got to go, my dad wants me home until the akuma attack is over. Best keep my head down until the bomb drops tomorrow right?” He rushes out before Alya or Nino can respond.
Nino sighs after his best friend runs out, “It’s so unfair he’s having to rectify his dad’s bad choices.”
Alya takes his hand, “I know. Something tells me this won’t be the last time he does so either. We’ll be there to support him though.” Her boyfriend gives her a soft smile and she kisses him on the cheek, “Come on, I want footage of that akuma fight.”
Nino glances down at his phone, “Actually it looks like the fight just ended a minute ago.”
“Wow that was short. It couldn’t have gone longer than the ten minutes we did the interview with Adrien for.”
“You’ll catch the next one,” he grins at her, “one way or another.”
She laughs, “okay turtle boy, let’s go get some lunch before we have to head back to class.”
They run into a slightly dejected Adrien on the way. He gives them an interview smile. They all find Marinette and get lunch. They keep the conversation light and avoid talking about the bomb Alya’s going to post tomorrow.
This is self indulgent. I really need Adrien taking some control of his life and standing up to his dad. Yes it’s painful but it’s so important that Adrien puts some distance between them in the public eye before Gabriel is revealed as Hawkmoth. I’m just hoping that can actually happen in canon but I have many fears this season.

The Greenland Incident
The post I typed up got deleted on Reddit (!!!) So I’m reposting here. :)
It’s a bit long but has the story written from professor Schneider’s POV. Enjoy!
This is taken from Dragon Raja III: Part I Chapter: Shadows of Greenland.
Schneider took off the oxygen mask and moved his face into the light. Even as he smoked cigarettes, he was on oxygen. When removing the oxygen mask, he will carefully hide his face in the shadow so this is the first time Manstein saw Ned's (Schneider's) face. It's a horror movie mask. The face is a nightmare, the flesh and blood under the eyes are completely dry, only a layer of dry skin is stuck to the bone, the lips and nose are atrophied, and the front teeth are directly exposed.
"It's ugly isn't it? Actually, I am only 37 years old this year but I have the half century old face of a mummy. When the students hear my cough, they think I am an old man in my 50s. But I am even younger than you." Schneider said, self-deprecating.
Manstein shivered slowly: "How can this be?"
"This is the mark left by a mission," Schneider said. "That was 11 years ago, when we first heard a heartbeat signal from the deep sea."
"This (The Japan sea mission) is not the first time we have found embryos in the sea?" Manstein was taken aback.
"No, No. Eleven years ago, that was in Greenland. We found a similar embryo." Schneider spit out a complete smoke ring. "You might have guessed it. I was talking about the  unresolved case in the Greenland Ice Sea. The dive team was annihilated, but the school board ordered all files to be sealed and the investigation was forcibly terminated. If you want to hear this story, you have to be patient, because this story is very long, and please order Norma (EVAs human personality) to leave this room. You with a black card now, you can do it."
"Why should Norma leave?"
"Because Norma doesn't know. The so-called top secret cannot be stored in the system or the drives. It can only be stored here." Schneider tapped on his forehead. "After listening to this story, you can't say a word. You can't even write a memo for yourself. This is a rigid rule of the college. You can only remember every detail I said firmly as far as you can. If you forget it, there's no remedy."
"What happened 11 years ago, can you still remember every detail of it now?"
"Of course, I can." Schneider said quietly. "That was the only trip to hell in my life. How could I forget?"
The icy cold permeated from Schneider's words. Manstein felt that when he mentioned something that happened 11 years ago, the ugly and powerful man in front of him ignited his anger, an anger restrained for 11 years.
"Norma, leave this room and leave the two of us alone for a while." Manstein said.
"Understand that, starting now, the central control room will be outside of my monitoring range for 15 minutes." Norma said.
All the equipment n the central control room stopped running, the cameras and recording equipment were locked, and the lights went out one by one. Norma left and the surveillance was lifted. At this moment, the central control room was independent of the campus, and the shadows of the trees swayed on the high windows, which looked like the depths of an ancient church.
"It was the autumn of 2001...." Schneider slowly began to narrate.
"It was the autumn of 2001. A person with the ID named 'Prince' posted a message on the Internet saying that his tugboat had caught strange bronze fragments deep in the Greenland Sea. He posted a photo and it seemed that there were some intricate ancient characters on them. These characters were completely consistent with the 'Ice Sea Bronze Column Tablet' secretly collected by the college."
"The Ice sea Bronze Pillar Tablet is considered to be a rare artifact that has been passed down from the Dragon Age to today. It once stood in the dragon-kin built cities. The dragons are accustomed to using pillars to record their history and the center of the city is always a huge pillar standing upright. However, the icy sea copper column tablet is only a part of a column that had broken and it is estimated that it is less than a third of its original length. It is the most detailed dragon text material that humans have found to today, recording the war history of the dragon clan, but we still can't interpret it because there is no text for comparison. Those texts are just meaningless patterns for us."
"I was just a young assistant professor at the time, keen to interpret Dragon Words. I think if there is another copper pillar in the depths of the Greenland Sea, then the comparison of the above text may be able to interpret the true history of dragons. So I contacted the 'Prince' anonymously, saying that we were an ancient writing research institute and hoped to purchase these fragments."
"At that time, someone offered an amazing price, but the Prince expressed that he was willing to donate the fragments to research institutions instead of selling them to merchants. He sent the fragments to us without taking any money, and attached the coordinates of where he found them. We immediately sent an elite team to scan the seabed with sonar. We originally hoped to find a huge pillar on the seabed, but we caught a strange heartbeat signal right on the seabed."
"The Greenland Ice Sea is not as deep as the Japanese Trench. Large animals like beluga and tiger sharks live in it. So we didn't think it was a dragon embryo at first. But we observed it for several months. Nothing moved. We had to focus our attention from the pillar to the heartbeat signal. This was too strange. If the thing is a whale or a shark, then it should hunt around. If it is a giant turtle of unknown species, but dormant, then its heartbeat shouldn't be so strong.
Someone put forward an amazing idea, that is: it is the embryo of a dragon. The seabed is its burial ground, it has experienced death, and cocooning and then reviving turned it into a fetal state. It is undergoing a long incubation.
"The idea was too bold, but the heartbeat signal was too strange and too tempting. Everyone of us was fascinated by this speculation. Since the establishment of the Secret Party, we have only received one dragon embryo, which is a weak one out of three generations. Dragon blood lines are already weak. If we can get a strong embryo, analyzing it can help us learn more about this ancient life."
"So you decided to dive?" Manstein asked.
"No, we weren't so rash. Because everything is just guessing. The safest way before a human goes is to send out a remote controlled submersible to survey the area. But whenever the underwater robots approached the seabed, they would lose control. We recovered the underwater robots and found that their circuits somehow burned up. This added to the evidence that the thing on the seabed was an embryo of a dragon. When an elder dragon is said to be in the process of incubation, a certain field will be developed to protect themselves. People who step into this field will have fatal hallucinations. Biologically speaking, the hallucinations are all because the cerebral cortex is stimulated, and the cerebral cortex is most easily stimulated by an electrical current."
"So the electric field of embryos burned the robot's circuits?" Manstein said.
"We thought so. We didn't want to send people to dive. If it is indeed the embryonic field that burned down those robots, then the impact on the cerebral cortex would be terrible. Even though all my students are A pedigree, I'm still not sure if they can fight against the field of embryos. In the hallucinations created by dragons, only the most powerful hybrids can maintain self-awareness. Any gap in the psychological defense line will be crushed by the hallucination. This has been recorded in the archives of the secret party." Schneider said. "But this time the school board intervened. They ordered us to dive as soon as possible to confirm the target. Their reason was that we could not wait for the embryo to hatch. At that time, even if it was risky, we had to act."
"Diving was the decision of the school board?"
"Yes. Today they sent you to stop the Caesar Team Embryo dive, but they were the creators of the Greenland plan back then."
"Under pressure, we made a dive plan. We purchased the most advanced diving bell from Germany at the time. It was a kind of all-metal diving equipment. Metal is an  excellent conductor. It can form an electrostatic barrier and should weaken the embryo field. Everyone in the dive team was to wrap their whole body with a fine metal mesh and took nerve tranquilizers orally. They are all the best hybrids. We thought they should be able to resist the interference in the embryonic field after they were fully armed. There were six people in the group. If one person had a problem the other five could force him to evacuate. In order to kill the dangerous embryo we also made a special underwater rifle for the dive team, using bullets polished by the Philosopher's Stone which is lethal to dragons."
"Although they were going to perform a dangerous mission, the students were still excited. Young people are fearless and they had the opportunity to get lose to a dragon embryo, which was as exciting as the opportunity to visit the Kingdom of God."
The weather was unexpectedly good on the day of the dive. The six members of the dive team went down on three diving bells. I provided support on the ice. At first, everything went smoothly, the ocean current was calm. The marine life was calm. They even observed beluga whales. But when the depth reached 170 meters, the leader of the dive team suddenly yelled in surprise in the communication channel, saying that they saw a gate. This is very strange because the seabed in that area is 300 meters deep, and their depth is 170 meters, which means that they are still 130 meters from the bottom. Visibility was very low. But at this point, they saw this gate. Is there a gate suspended in the middle of the sea?
"I became alert and worried that they had strayed into the embryonic field and had begun to have hallucinations. They excitedly discussed the gate in the communication channel. This is completely against the rules of communications. They should not talk about it in the communication channel. This channel is for essential communication only to avoid misunderstandings. I loudly ordered them not to approach the gate. I wasn't sure if it really existed but my instinct told me that the gate should not be opened."
"But they completely ignored my orders. I only heard their hurried muttering and strange noises. It was like someone was breathlessly reading a certain scripture in a deep well. Then the team leader spoke and yelled, "The gate is open! The gate is opening!" Then, "No! Don't Go in!"
"Then the gunshots were heard, loud. I could hear them paddling and the sound of their respirators. They had left the diving bell and were fighting with something. The situation was very chaotic. Someone shouted in the channel but because of the current interference, I couldn't hear what they said."
"I originally told the diving team not to leave the diving bell, because the electrostatic barrier in the diving bell is their important protection, but why they violated my order... there's no perfect explanation. After five minutes, the communication was cut off. We could no longer receive signals from the depths of the ice sea. I decided to forcibly recover the diving bells. Those diving bells are connected to the ice breaker with safety lines. However, we recovered the safety lines, only to find that the safety lines were cut with diving knives. The cuts, judging from the fibers, were made by the diving teams own knives. They cut the safety lines themselves."
"I was frantic and decided to dive down to rescue them. There were no more bells, but I was confident in my physical fitness. I could dive to 300 meters without protective gear. I could dive to 170 on one breath. When I reached the waters where the incident occurred, there was no gate nor were their corpses. The water was clear with no trace of blood, even though I clearly heard the gunshots in the communication channel. At that time, the surrounding water temperature had dropped below zero. It was so cold that any disturbance in the water would form ice crystals."
"I then noticed something behind me that had been silently swimming with me!" "The predator was so cautious to keep itself from being discovered by me. But the super cold seawater was  formed a thin film of ice in front of me and it reflected the light on my diving helmet. I saw its dark shadow in the thin ice, just like the totem on an ancient mural. It was slender, its long and thin tail swung slowly in the sea, like a butterfly in flight. I heard a sound and my spotlight stopped working from the cold and I was surrounded in completely darkness. I thought I was going to die. The embryo had hatched. It killed my students! It was behind me but I can't do anything about it."
"Desperation brings out courage. So I remembered that I was still holding my underwater rifle. All the special ones were handed over to the dive team. I only had an ordinary one filled with ordinary bullets. But I can't sit and wait for death. So I turned and took a shot in the dark."
"I then saw blood. I had actually hurt it!"
"How can an ordinary rifle harm a dragon? That thing was only used by divers to kill sharks and can't even kill a large shark. And you were too far down for it to work effectively." Manstein said.
"I can't answer that, but there was a strong smell of blood penetrating the seals of my helmet. I wasn't injured. The dragon was." Schneider said.
"I could clearly feel it right in front of me. I and the injured dragon are facing each other in the dark, very close. But I still couldn't see it."
"It hissed at me and in an instant my oxygen mask shattered into pieces, and the cold current rushed into my air supply carrying with it, the dragon's blood. I lost consciousness."
"My companions heard my screams and brought me back up from the water with a safety cable. When the water rushed out, I was frozen in a piece of the sea ice weighing several tons. Like a fish frozen at a market."
"Fortunately, the rescue helicopter arrived in a few minutes. After I woke up, the doctor said that I had suffered from the extreme cold. I danced with the god of death and inhaled that cold air it breathed out at minus 200 degrees. It necrotized my face, the temperature of my brain dropped and my blood was frozen. My chance of survival should have been non-existent."
"The doctor tried his best and managed to save my tongue. But I must wear an oxygen mask at all time, and change the plastic trachea every two or three years, otherwise my respiratory system will fail and I will die."
"I used to love hand rolled cigarettes, but this box of shredded tobacco is what I have left over from 11 years ago and I haven't finished smoking it. I only roll one cigarette occasionally to smoke when I am reminiscing about that period. I remember the past more clearly. I assure that every detail I said is true, because I dare not forget. These memories are painfully carved into my mind."
"We were unable to successfully capture or kill that dragon. It is still alive, hidden in the deep sea of the world, looking for opportunities to surface. A few hours after the incident we used diving robots to explore again. The fish disappeared quietly in the ice sea and no trace was found. We explored the seabed but did not find embryos or copper pillars, as if everything we experienced was just a nightmare that disappeared when we woke up. A few years later, a marine minding company found a wealth of manganese in the seabed and build an offshore mining platform. Today there are thousands of marine miners working there. Nothing supernatural happened again, until not long ago, we observed exactly the same heartbeat signal deep in the Japanese Trench."
[skipping down because they talk about other things]
"Only one in 100,00 people can evolve safely after being in contact with the blood of an elder dragon. I was actually one of the lucky ones. I was able to survive the bottom of the sea because it had already begun to increase my potential. But I am not a person who is fully able to accept dragon blood. My body is riddled with holes. strengthening me while destroying me. I have endured the pain for 11 years. The most likely in the college to turn into a Death Servitor is not Chu Zihang, but me."
"I'm not afraid to dive, but my body can't bear it. Now sitting in front of you is a dying patient. Were it not for the dragon blood's corruption, I would have died already."
"Does the principal know?"
"He knows. The college has formulated a special medical plan for me. I change my blood every year, but the dragon blood can never be cleared. I'm not sure how much longer I have left." Schneider knocked on his heart. "I have an explosive device the size of a pacemaker right next to my heart. Once I lose control, it will explode. I will suddenly fall to the ground and it will not be of any trouble to you."
"Must you be so cruel to yourself?" Manstein whispered.
"People who are cruel to others must learn how to be cruel to themselves. Otherwise they are just cowards." Schneider said slowly, "many people think that I would never perform assignments after the Greenland incident. That I would shrink back into my research. Because of that incident, I lost six students and I am the way I am now. They thought that a person who survived hell should value their life all the more."
"But I chose to be the director of the executive department. I am the last member of the Greenland team. Those young people whose lives were blooming like flowers died. And I survived. If I were a stupid coward, wouldn't that be ridiculous?"

Featuring Penny being an innocent robot and observing people, trying to understand what emotions and relationships are. For those that just want the rarepair Penny/Winter I’ll put it under the cut.
Can be read standalone. Summery of last chapter: Penny snuck out to met her faux teammates. ‘Aro’ Glade is one of them and the only friendly one. Hard of hearing, goat faunus, has prosthetic horns. She’s lil quirky like Entrapta.
Successful interpersonal action: Three people.
They spent half the day drilling her backstory. Penny was adopted from one of Dr. Pietro’s clients who lived in Atlas. They were board members of the Schnee Dust Company who… disappeared on a business trip to Vacuo. Dr. Pietro adopted Penny and changed her last name to hide her from White Fang extremist.
The young women didn’t like it. It was… common and therefor believable. But it was sad. It placed blame on the innocent- but they weren’t really innocent and-
“Darling? Something is bothering you again.” Dr. Pietro gently prodded. Penny was reluctant at first. It wasn't a problem that could be solved. The cover story solved many issues but…
The more she thought about it the more her aura stirred and amplified her power unit to overwhelming capacity. "It's about lying," Penny blurted out. She squeezed her hands, almost tight enough to damage the artificial skin. She didn't know if admitting it stressed her out more or relieved the internal conflict. "It doesn't feel right."
"That's because you’re a good person." Dr. Pietro said with a smile. His hands covered her and squeezed. The pressure reaffirmed his presence and was comforting. "How about you go for a walk, outside."
"… Outside?” Penny repeated. She wouldn’t consider her trip to Aro’s apartment outside. She went from inside the facility to inside a transport, then inside a building. "Around Atlas?"
"We're still setting up your official documents but now probably the best time to explore as… as a normal girl, not a huntress-in-training or savior of the world," Dr. Pietro said. He was smiling, but like Aro last night it wasn't a real smile. His tone was soft, possibly sad? "The air might do you good."
"But I am not impacted by air quality."
Dr. Pietro chuckled, a hand cupped her cheek for a moment. "My dear girl, it's not just about taking care of your body. But also here," He tapped Penny's nose. She gasped and giggled. Her nose was various types of silicone and sensors, very sensitive ones apparently. "Go on, you're also supposed to learn, and you can only do that outside." Penny still squeezed her hands. And her father hummed in thought. "Oh I know, this would be the perfect time for you to meet Ms. Glade!"
"Oh! Um…" Penny froze a little, panic written over her face. Luckily her father turned around, chair walking to another workbench. Xanthic had to sneak her out, so it is highly probable meeting her soon to be teammates was supposed to be a secret. That would explain the private communications network, or maybe Xanthic was just trouble. So many thoughts fired through her processers jumped a little when she found a box containing a pair golden horns in her hands.
"These are Ms. Glade's new horns! I've made some modifications after all that testing we did with your artificial skin. She lost most of her hearing years ago and uses those horns to detect wavelengths as well as aura." Penny remembered the photo Xanthic altered. The Faunus ears on the sides of Aro's head must be the original traits she was born with, hopefully still flesh and blood. "Ms. Glade should be at Atlas Academy, helping with the weapons department."
"Understood," Penny said with a smile. She closed the package and left for the Academy.
Despite Dr. Pietro's encouraging words it was still difficult to actually leave the facility. The process involved using her scroll to open the door and moving her legs but they suddenly felt heavy. That instinct that caused her to throw herself into cover during her last trial suddenly pulling at the wires in her chest.
“I’ll be fine…” Penny whispered to herself. She was in a room with a hacker and a mechanic, two people that could directly manipulate her software and hardware and turned out fine.
The first few steps were terrifying. She made a note to research this strange feeling of being to protective of herself when logically there was no reason to be. She felt exposed, as if the artificial skin was peeled back and her metal chassis was open.
Penny yelped, holding the box to her chest when a Faunus on skates zipped by, a rainbow trail following her. Then she looked over her shoulder again, turn around and did one ring around Penny. In turn Penny notice the Atlas Academy uniform. The Faunus grinned and gave a thumbs up as she skated away, "Brothers! You are adorable! Cute dress too."
"Thank… Thank you! Your compliment is much appreciated!" Penny yelled back, hoping the pink Faunus could hear her.
After that Penny was able to relax. She may not had faith in herself because of her lack of experience, so instead she trusted her father and Ironwood's judgement. They put her through those trials for a reason and it was to make sure she could pass in public.
With some confidence restored she continued to the Academy. She allowed herself to wander from the most efficient path. Unlike Mantle, Atlas was a polished city. Buildings over twice as big as those on the ground, and hard-light displays everywhere. All sorts of amazing technologies walked the streets, from pets with prosthetic limbs to robots trimmed with gold and bright lights like Xanthic’s butler.
As she got closer to the school the number of weaponshops, Schnee Dust Company distributors, and restaurants increased. Nearly everyone around her wore an Atlas student or military uniform. A few gave her a glance but never lingered long enough to make Penny feel uncomfortable.
That changed once she entered the Academy.
The cool and steady tone of Special Operative Winter Schnee called out to her. “Ma’am, all non-personal are required to state their business at the guest office and receive a pass.” She said. Unlike the recordings Penny saw her in she was dressed in a civilian suit, almost business but just high Atleasian fashion. “And unmarked packages are to be inspected. This is partially a military facility after all.”
“Oh um…” Penny held the box to her chest. These were sensitive instruments. The horns connect directly to Aro’s brain and if the inspectors were to pry it open and damage it, it could cause neurological harm. “This is a delivery from Dr. Piertro to Aro.”
Flicker of instant recognition passed over Winter's face. Then consideration. Xanthic did say Aro's reputation preceded her, but would Ironwood's second in command really make an exception for the Faunus?
“Aro… You’re friends with Ms. Glade?” Winter asked leveled tone somehow flattening even more. She seemed resigned. An aggressive huff escaped her lips, “Of course she’d… Ugh. I will accompany you. State your name, civilian.”
“Penny, ma’am!” She answered clicking her heels to attention. Winter didn’t seem satisfied, instead waiting a moment then just walking into the Academy. Penny half jogged to catch up.
“Are you and Ms. Glade close?”
“Oh, perhaps? I do not know how to gauge relationship depth.”
“An accurate statement with that women,” Winter said. Then was silent for a few minutes. Penny didn’t encourage a conversation, she was too busy looking at the Academy. The hallways were so tall the new Paladins could fit but it wasn't wide enough for the mech to walk through. Winter noticed, “Would you like a tour?”
“That would be lovely!” Penny said with a large smile. She would be attending this school soon and experiencing it would provide better information than just maps and recordings. “I would like to examine the hard-light technology in detail, the sustainability is quite efficient!”
“It better be, for something so minuscule and unnecessary.” Winter said with a scoff. “Such dust is better in practical applications.”
“Hmm… I don’t think that’s true.” Penny gently argued. Winter looked over her shoulder. Penny winced, expecting a glare like Xanthic but Winter merely raised a brow. The specialist stayed silent so Penny continued. “These everyday applications helps further our understanding of hard-light dust. Only those very skilled with aura can use create something that last more than a few hits.” Penny noted Aro's hard-light blades didn't break or flicker once.
 “That is a fair point.”
“Though installing 20 hard-light lamps within a single hallway is excessive.” Penny finished. At that Winter gave a hum of approval. Penny couldn’t see it and Winter’s tone was still rather flat but some part of her detected a smile.
Conversation lulled into hard-light application and the use of it in Argus. They both agreed that the barrier was brilliant but implementation needed much work. Winter thought sturdy walls like the one around Mantel with hard-light gates was the solution, though she conceded the opinion when Penny brought up ecological damage.
Eventually the hallway began to change. They widened so even a Spider Droid could walk down the halls. Classrooms were no longer around but instead numbered and heavily armored doors lined the walls.
“This is the combat section of the Academy,” Winter said, “We are approaching the workshop. It is open during training hours for student use, smiths such as Ms. Glade volunteer from time to time.” Winter pressed her scroll to a lock and the thick doors opened.
The workshop was huge, nearly as big as a single floor of Aro’s apartment. There were several rows of benches, some taken by students and three being used by Aro and her companion. Weapons in various states were scattered around them, dust ammunition and crystals on another workbench. Aro and her friend seemed to be using the third as a conversation prop, the former leaning against it while the latter sat on it.
Aro looked like a proper mechanic, jumpsuit in oil and grime. There was a little on her face until her friend pointed it out. Then it became a lot as Aro swiped at it with dirty hands. Penny quietly giggled. It reminded her of her father and brought a sense of comfort and familiarity. Apparently they pair was too focused on their own conversation to detect Penny and Winter, even as they advanced closer.
Aro rolled her glowing blue eyes. “Marigold. My answer is no.” Her words were stern even if her smile was playful.
“Me and Fiona will step in if anything goes wrong!” Marigold said.  Blue hair, gold eyes. She looked familiar but immediate facial scans didn't recognize her. It brought up a Huntress Marigold several times but it didn’t match. Penny overwrote the current scan as ??? 'Aro's friend' Marigold. “I’m telling you, you have a knack for this kind of stuff.” She continued, picking up a rag and grabbing Aro, "Stop you're making it worse. Don’t move."
Aro made a displeased noise. A growl or perhaps a whine? She did comply and stayed still while Marigold cleaned her face. “It’s called Focus-“
“It’s called illegal and reckless.” Winter barked, voice nearly echoing the room. Aro let out a small scream, jumping almost a foot into the air while her friend flinched and slid off the workbench. They both slowly turned to the new pair. "Marigold."
The Huntress answered back in a tone just as cold, "Schnee-"
"Penny!" Aro yelled. She vaulted over the table and crouched. The purple glow in her prosthetic legs changed to a fiery orange. Combustion dust cartridge locked in.
"W-Wait!" Penny gasped holding the box above her, "These are sensitive equipment!" Just as the words left her mouth an explosion of purple and orange pushed Aro towards Penny. Winter had just enough time to take the box as the dense metal woman was lifted off the ground.
Penny squeezed Aro's shoulders, trying not to follow her programming. Processors immediately list several maneuvers to escape, everything was saying this was an attack. But it couldn't have been because Aro was laughing. Aro wasn't dangerous, she was a kind civilian but that information wasn't registering to herself defense protocols.  Something else was off- her gyrostabilizer couldn't detect the ground.
"I am unequipped for zero gravity! Down please!" Penny squeaked. Aro sneered the slow levitating twirl slowly changed back to a stable vertical. Before Aro turned off the gravity dust, she hoisted Penny onto her shoulder. Her sensors couldn't process what was happening, visual data conflicted with her sense of gravity, logically Aro shouldn't be able to lift Penny with ease. "Wai- Wait!"
"Trust exercise!" Aro said with a grin and hearty laugh. Penny was tense, waiting for her density to pull them both to the ground. After several solid steps on metal tiles, it didn't happen. "See! Ease the grip, Penn."
"Oh! Of… of course. I'm sorry." She said quickly letting go. She was thankful for the durable muscle there. If it was a normal civilian like Ciel there would be a bruise. Penny yelped as the walk turned into a light jog, hand holding down her dress with a tight grip. It was impossible for her to feel sick but her sensors was still scrambled after her first zero-gravity experience. It was a highly unpleasant sensation Penny did not want to experience again.
"Penny! This May Marigold, my favorite Huntress and friend."
May chuckled a little and patted Aro's head. Her father did it too, earlier. Penny noted it down as an affectionate gesture. "Sorry about this one. Aro gets a little too hyper at times. A pleasure to meet you." She finished ruffling Aro's hair to hold a hand out to the young women.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, May Marigold," Penny said shaking her hand, quickly updating the information in her recognition software. She was a little surprised at how hard May squeezed and also updated her pressure output for next time.
"We have come with a delivery from Dr. Polendina," Winter announced set the box on the table.
Aro set Penny to sit on the workbench but while she was up there she noticed glowing purple circuits on the horns, as well as a few cracks and other signs of wear. If these horns were the basis for Penny's artifical skin it would explain all the complications. It was made for neurological input, human input… Penny willed her processors to focus on the conversation around her. Instead of opening the box Aro looked at May who couldn't hold in a snort and brief laughter.
"You came because you, and you," May glared at Aro who rolled her eyes. "Don't understand what a day off mean."
"I understand it quite well. What I don't understand is why I need it."
"I agree with the Schnee," Aro said with a shrug. "I'm still good! I don't need a break."
"You've been working for nearly ten hours straight! When was the last time you ate?" May asked. Aro grinned. The mechanic pulled a candy bar from her pocket and slowly unwrapped it. Her smile grew, glowing blue eyes never leaving May's glaring gold ones even as May's expression grew frustrated.
Penny tilted her head and watched them. From her experience with Xanthic and Ciel a few nights ago, frustration was a negative emotion, something to avoid. Between May and Aro it felt… teasing? Penny looked at Winter to confirm her suspicions. The women looked… indifferent. Humans express themselves quite differently and she hasn't been exposed to Winter's behavior to decipher it. Still Penny was confident that the lack of urgency was amusement. In Winter-language.
At the last second May snatched the candy away. "Alright you assholes, we're going to dinner." She declared, ordering the General's second-in-command. Winter gave a tired roll of her eyes while Aro shrugged.
"Nothing Minstral, I'm still working through the leftovers from a few nights ago. May if you would kindly…" Aro pulled her hair into a ponytail and turned the back of her head to the huntress. Penny leaned back to watch May's fingers trail over circuit on the back of Aro's skull before pushing a button. The gold horns shut down, color fading to a black glossy material and the glowing purple disappearing. Setting the fashionable aids aside, Penny saw a glimpse of complex wiring. The Faunus ears had no sign of cybernetics but they looked damaged.
"I will have to decline," Winter quickly said as Aro opened the box and inspected her new horns. Aids, Penny reminded herself. Her father said she lost most of her hearing in the accident that took her legs but Penny did not know the extent of the damage. "I already have prior arrangements to show Penny around Atlas Academy."
"You just can't stay away from work can you?" May sighed.
Apparently the damage was enough that Aro could not understand a conversation in close proximity at average volume. Penny looked at the two huntresses a little confused. Was it not considered rude to have a conversation that left one party unable to communicate? Why would they not want Aro's input?
"Do you really want me to interrupt your date?" Winter asked. Her tone was flat, mostly flat. The smile was hard to detect if without understanding micro expressions.
May scoffed, a blush feint on her cheeks. Her voice was noticeably softer than Winter's. Soft tones were personal but this situation was different. The word secret popped into Penny's head but why wouldn't they want Aro to know? "We aren't… I hadn't-" A loud click interrupted them and they all looked at Aro who winced, a new aid plugged into her neural input.
It signaled an end to the interesting conversation, much to Penny's disappointment. They displayed so many emotions and behaviors she never saw from her father or the General. May and Winter's body language quickly shifted back to normal, or as Penny saw it as, lightly guarded. She couldn't define the conversation as anything but teasing. Intimate was close but too personal. Friendly? Were they friends?
"Argh, ouch," Aro held the second horn to the port and twisted it in. Another click and almost a whine. The pain was brief and she turned back to the group. "Sorry about that. What were you saying Schnee?"
"Penny agreed to a small tour of the Academy but please have a lovely… " Winter said. There was definitely a small change in inflection, very subtle. The specialist paused looking at May who tried not to finch under those blue eyes. What did that mean? Penny hungrily observed all these small interactions. It was a puzzle she was slowly solving and still finding pieces too. Winter's eyes then cut back to Aro with a hard look, "Uneventful dinner."
May scowled, crossing her arms. She was about to say something but Aro literally jumped between them, "Then how about we do something eventful?" She asked with a grin. The ears on her side of her head poked out of her hair, wiggling up and down as she nearly bounced in spot. Penny wanted to touch it. "The Military Robotics Event."
"Aren't you banned?" May quickly asked.
"From viewing unattended! But I'll have two of Atlas' best huntresses accompanying me! And honestly if you two can't keep me out of trouble, Goddess save the Brothers."
May and Winter looked at each other both displeased and unyielding to Aro's pout until Penny spoke up. Aro was her soon to teammate, Penny could inspect the Faunus ears later, but this event sounded temporary, "I think attending the Military Show with friends would make for a most wonderful and eventful evening!"
"Yeah!" Aro slid by Penny's side, ears wiggling up and down in excitement. This time Penny found her hands trying to touch them but Winter calmly pushed her hands down. In her excitement, Aro was oblivious to the attempt. This must be what May meant when she said too hyper. "Please May! I won't touch the bots this time!"
May practically growled under her breath. Her face was a little red again. Penny knew blood rushes to the head when frustrated or flustered, but she did not understand enough about relationships to know which it was. Overall they seemed to be on positive terms so she hoped May was flustered- May suddenly grabbed onto Aro's ears and pulled them a little, making the Faunus squirm. It confirmed that they were still flesh and blood, but also resulted in an inconclusive assessment of May's emotion. Perhaps the flush was due to frustration? Both?
"You better. Or I'll sick Fiona on you."
"Yes, ma'am!" Aro said. As soon as May let go of her ears, Aro tried running but May quickly grabbed the back of her neck and picked her up. "Why- Seriously how are you all so strong?!"
"It’s almost as if you have gravity dust all over you," May drawled with a new tone Penny hadn’t heard before. Her systems registered it as sarcasm, emphasized by May rolling her eyes. "I'll help Aro clean up. Meet you at the front, Schnee?"
"An acceptable plan." Winter said, hands in their default position behind her back. She looked at Aro, the arms of her jumpsuit tied around her waist, sweat, grime and oil smeared across well-defined muscle or fat. Winter gave the first true expression Penny saw, a very tiny and sly smirk. "Good luck," She mouthed so Aro wouldn't hear.
This time May did blush- due to being flustered, Penny finally decided- and she only acknowledged Winter's teasing with a middle finger behind her back. Out of sight from Aro, Penny observed but why? At the entrance to the workshop the group split into their respective pair. Penny could hear Aro’s playful struggle and banter a few halls down. She wasn’t sure how sensitive those new horns are so Penny waited a few minutes more until talking.
 "Schnee, ma'am-"
"I suppose since I am off duty," The Specialist said the last words with dread and more emotion than Penny had seen yet. "Winter will suffice."
"Winter…" Penny said slowly. She smiled and followed the huntress out of the Academy, "Are you and Marigold close?"
Winter's long strides seemed to falter, slow even. "In a way, perhaps. The Schnees and Marigolds are on good social terms and it's not often one from Atlas’ Elite families peruse a hazardous lifestyle."
Penny frowned. "I don't understand. Your similarities are enough to be friends?" If it was that easy wouldn't Ciel and Xanthic like each other? They were both serious.
"If only," Winter sighed. She finally slowed down and matched Penny's strides to look at the young women she was conversing with. Penny smiled up at her, showing appreciation for the gesture. She noted the Huntress' silence stretch on a little too long, eyes a little studious. Did Penny do something wrong? "The situation with me and Marigold is similar to you and Aro. Not many people understand us, so we cherish the ones that do. Even if there are differences."
 "Interesting…"
 Successful interpersonal action: Five people.

Think Piece: Onision and Kai
I am currently at a point where I am mentally exhausted from the circus that this case has become. I honestly have no idea whether or not we will see justice happen. What I really want to focus on is why this is happening and what we can do to help keep it from continuing to happen. Our generation’s youth look up to YouTubers almost the same way previous generations looked up to their favorite movie and television stars. However, there is a very important difference in the relationship between a YouTube celebrity’s relationship with fans compared to that of an A-list celebrity. That key is: Accessibility. YouTubers strive to have a very open relationship toward their fans because that connection makes the viewer feel like they know them. If your followers think they know you, they will be far more loyal and committed. But most of the time, the relationship built with their fan base is at least slightly feigned. This is not always done for the purpose of being deceitful. It’s simply to create a healthy barrier between their public life and their private life. YouTubers are, at the end of the day, just people. They aren’t all that different from the people you meet everyday. The only difference is that they know how to create entertaining content for you to watch. Many of them are decent people just trying to make a living. But then there will always be some who use their influence for more than just entertainment. See, if a full grown adult YouTuber is spending a large chunk of their time building personal relationships with teenagers and children, that is highly questionable. These children are at risk of a potentially dangerous situation. See, these are people who know the strength of their influence over young people. They know these kids want their personal attention and will do almost anything to maintain it. After all, imagine if your favorite film celebrity started paying direct attention to you as a kid. Wouldn’t you want that person to like you? If they asked you to do something you know you probably shouldn’t do, wouldn’t you at least consider doing it? The answer in many cases is “Yes.” But we know that when it comes to film, music, and television stars that is not as likely to happen. But for YouTubers, it’s very possible. So what do we do? Do parents need to start constantly monitoring their kids activities online? No. That wouldn’t work anyway. The more parents monitor, the more kids learn how to get around it. The better idea is to have open and nonjudgmental communication. The most effective means of knowing what is going on with kids is making sure they know they can come to you and talk about situations going on in their life. That is not to say they will never keep secrets from you. But you will better notice when something is not right. If they normally open up to you and suddenly aren’t, you will notice the difference better than if they never talk to you anyway. Speaking now directly to kids and teens now, you also need to learn to notice the signs that you are being manipulated and taken advantage of. Allow me to share a list of red flags to look out for. 1. If this person is an adult, and they have expressed an interest in you, a minor, in a way that is similar to interest from a peer your own age, this is not normal. Adults can have friendly interactions toward kids. But you need to remember that you are not the same. You are in two completely different stages of life. It’s one thing to have casual conversations. But if they start referring to you in ways that implicate romance or anything of the like, it’s not right. 2. If they start asking you to do things for them that don’t seem right or normal, it isn’t right or normal. If they ask for photos of you (whether they are of sexual nature or not) it’s not right or normal. If they ask for personal information (your phone number, address, etc) never ever give them that info without expressed permission from your parents. I know sometimes YouTubers do give aways or send gifts to fans. That is the only reason I even say ask a parent. But otherwise do not give them any personal information of yours. 3. They threaten to revoke their friendship with you for not cooperating with their wishes. This is a manipulation tactic even adults fall victim to. If anyone is truly a friend, they would never do this. Don’t worry about losing a famous person as a friend. Like I said before: THEY ARE JUST PEOPLE! Only difference between them and anyone else is that they have a successful YouTube channel. That doesn’t mean they get to boss you around. 4. Do not be afraid to ask for help if this person puts you in a bad situation. They are in the wrong for using their influence over a younger person to commit any malice. What they have done is WRONG! You don’t deserve what they are doing even if they try to tell you that you do. You DON’T DESERVE IT! 5. That said, I do realize that not all kids and teens have good situations at home. If your parents cannot better the situation for you, contact an authority figure you CAN trust. This can be a guidance counselor, the police, a close friend’s parents, a help line, a teacher, a coach, etc. In the end, what I want everyone to take away from this is how to keep people like Onision and Kai from having positions of power over anyone. Let us stop treating celebrities of any sort in a manner that gives them that sort of power over their fans. Enjoy their content. Support them as entertainers. But do not see them as anything more than human. Learn to accept that these people are flawed, and learn to assess their flaws appropriately. This is the only way to filter out the toxicity in any online community. “Dream, try, do good” -Mr. Feeney “Boy Meets World”

Photography in London Week 1
sf
Tumblr media
What do you notice about the image?
What stands out is that the woman on the right is holding a single flower, while on the left, there are soldiers holding weapons in her face.
What might the story be telling?
The soldiers on the left look they are ready to battle, but the woman is using nonviolent protest. It is depicting courage and sadness in the woman.
What decisions has the photographer made to convey that story?
The photographer had a good angle of the action by showing how the weapons are just inches away from the woman. He does this to convey that they are not afrai. Also, the faces of the soldiers look serious and the woman looks sad. The point of view of the photographer shows that he is neutral because he is standing between the soldiers and the woman. He puts most of the focus on the woman and less focus on the background.
What do you think is happening beyond the frame of the photograph?
There are a group of protestors in the background behind the woman, but she has the courage to stand up front and speak to the soldiers.
What do you think happened directly after the photo was taken?
Nothing happened. It was a peaceful protest and the woman may have been seen as a hero for standing up to the soldiers. The soldiers probably retreated eventually.
What is it in the photo that makes you think that?
The soldiers don’t look like they want to hurt her. The ones that you see in the photo don’t even have their eyes on her. They are rather acting as a barrier because they’re standing in a line like that.

Couple on Beach, England, 1960
1. What first drew me to the photo was the ocean. Then, after I analysed it, I thought about how the people are using the umbrellas to cover themselves from the sun, and how everyone here uses umbrellas for rain.
2. The point of view really stood out to me in this picture. I like it because the people in chairs are the main focus, but the scenery makes it look relaxing and casual.
3. This photo was taken in the 60s, but without knowing that, it is probably hard to guess when this photo was taken because of the scenery. There is nothing that stands out in this picture that screams “60s”.
Tumblr media
This is a photo that I took at Trafalgar Square. I thought this photo would be cool because the top half of the photo is the sky, similar to the one by Bruce Davidson. Also, this photo was taken in black and white like all of his at the gallery. The monument is somewhat close to the camera, similar to the people in beach chairs in the first photo.

Boy Wearing a Mask, Wales, 1965
1. What drew me to this photo was the boy wearing the mask. I don’t necessarily like the picture, but it intrigued me. The picture made me feel confused because I’m not really sure why he’s wearing the mask and why he’s posing there while the other people are in the background. He looks like he’s about to rob a bank or it’s just really cold.
2. What is special about this photo is the camera angle and the focus on the boy wearing the mask. There is a big tree in the background, but the focus is on the boy. It is also interesting how the boy is caught swinging in midair in the photo.
3. Kids dressed different and did things differently for fun. For example, the family in the picture is in the middle of nowhere while the child in the background is swinging. This doesn’t happen often anymore because of technology.
Tumblr media
This is a photo of my roommate and I. It reminded me of “Boy Wearing a Mask, Wales, 1965″ because of where the focus is aimed towards. In Davidson’s photo, the boy is up close while the tree is in the background. In my photo, it shows me and my friend up close, and the London Eye in the background.

England, 1960
1. What drew me to this photo was the boy at the tube/train station all by himself. He is pretty young, but he is by himself with no parents by his side. That could be his friends behind him, but their attention is the opposite way.
2. This photo is special because the photo is focused on the boy and the background is blurred. The only clear part is the bottom right corner where the boy is standing, putting the emphasis on the boy. The point of view of the photographer is somewhat close to the boy.
3. If he’s by himself, this photo shows that kids were more independent at a young age. Also, I feel like there aren’t many kids that dress like that, but he looks like he’s pretty dressed up because of the trenchcoat and hat on which was interesting.
Tumblr media
This is a photo of my girlfriend in Barcelona this past weekend. The mood is a lot different, but the camera angle is the same. Also, you can tell that in both photos, the focus is on one person and the background is blurred.

FanX with David Tennant
Last weekend I had the opportunity of a lifetime; a chance to meet my idol not once, not twice, but three times. I finally have the time and opportunity to sit down and write about my experience last weekend so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I’m sitting here looking at my pictures and yes, I am drinking my “David Tennant in my Dreams” tea from Adagio Teas. It’s my process, don’t judge me.
Anyone who knows me knows that I adore David Tennant. Many people have questioned my sanity as well as my life choices regarding this, but I do have my reasons. While David doesn’t have the body of Chris Hemsworth, the dreamy sky-blue eyes of Tom Hiddleston, he does have magically majestic hair, deep soulful golden-brown eyes, a smile that lights up the darkest corners of the universe, and a very talented left eyebrow. David is also a talented actor and has an enormous range where he can play comedy, drama, and anything in between with equal ease. He has played a bouncing puppy-like world-class lover in “Cassanova”, a grumpy disgruntled lethargic detective in “Broadchurch”, everyone’s favorite Doctor in “Doctor Who”, and a truly evil narcissistic villain with no moral compass in “Jessica Jones”. But the main reason I adore David Tennant is that even though he is a successful and brilliant actor, he is genuinely nice, and a very decent human being who treats his fans with respect and dignity and is truly a humble and gracious individual. If you have the opportunity to meet him, I highly suggest that you do. You will not regret it.
Believe it or not, I have tried to find anyone who has actually met or interacted with him, that either doesn’t like him or has something negative to say about him. So far, the only negative thing I’ve heard was from his co-star Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) in Doctor Who that complained that David and John Barrowman had farting contests in the Tardis. In the grand scheme of things, while it’s a little gross and juvenile, I don’t find that to be overly bad. He is loved by all of his co-stars, his directors, and has been known to be a man with very little ego and very easy to work with.
It would take too much time for me to write down absolutely everything that happened at FanX (the official name of the Comic-Con I attended), especially if I went over every detail of each of the 3 times I met David, so instead, I will give you an overall experience of all encounters and highlights. I had a photo-op on Thursday, an autograph signing later that afternoon, another photo-op on Friday morning, and David’s panel later that afternoon.
One of the best things about a Con is finding other people who share your passions for a particular fandom franchise. I was able to geek out about Star Wars, Firefly, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and David Tennant (who has been in 3/5 of those fandoms). Most of Thursday was spent standing in line with other fans of David Tennant, and as much as I hate standing in line I really enjoyed talking to other people who loved him as much as I did. We swapped stories about how we discovered him, our favorite role he’s played, and whether we’ve met him before. We also swapped stories of our knowledge of him and his roles, what we adored about him, and what we were looking forward to when we met him. Half of the crowd dressed up in a variety of costumes from Doctor Who or other projects David has been in, and we acknowledged each other’s efforts and creativity. It was a glorious validation of adoration for a skinny Scottish bloke. David’s lines were the largest, most crowded, and most excited lines in the entire Con. There was also quite a bit of squealing (not from me) but from others.
If you’ve read my dissertation about my first meeting with David, you’ll remember me saying something about time being one of the most precious things an individual can share with you. I have met 4 celebrities in my life, 3 of them (David, Catherine Tate, and John Barrowman) were extremely rewarding and enjoyable because the celebrities actually focused time and energy (even though it was only for a few seconds) with me as an individual fan, the other celebrity just wasn’t into it. There is a scene in “Galaxy Quest” where the actors of the show are at a Comic-Con and most of them are not happy to be there, just signing things in an assembly line, and ignoring their fans. There are some celebrities that do this, but David is not one of them.
Tumblr media
One of my favorite things that happened while waiting in line was being able to observe David interacting with other fans to see how he treated others. How a person treats others, especially when they think no one is watching, is a great barometer for who a person truly is. Here is what I observed: David treated every fan with the same dignity, graciousness, energy, and humility. EVERY … SINGLE… ONE!!! He did not give his fans a half-hearted cookie-cutter greeting, he gave each fan (or group of fans) an excited high-pitched individualized greeting that let them know that he was just as excited to meet them as we were to meet him. He looked everyone in the eye or at least tried to as some were reduced to hysterical giggling and couldn’t bear to return his intense gaze. When it was your turn to be in his presence he was completely focused on you, even for the brief amount of time you had with him. If you made the attempt to interact with him, he made the effort to interact with you and did not let the handlers (employees at the Con whose job it is to move the crowd along) bully him or you. Every fan got their moment with David. He did not avoid contact with his fans especially in the photo booth; he shook hands, he put his arms around them, he held hands, he made funny faces and goofy poses, and genuinely looked like he was having a good time. He was game to do any crazy pose or situation as long as you requested it and it wasn’t overly inappropriate. There were only two instances when I saw his countenance fall from his jovial demeanor; both times happened when he was not interacting with anyone directly and when he thought no one was looking. The fall in countenance was not necessarily a change in mood or demeanor but rather a relaxation or break in activity. He did not seem tired, angry, or upset it was simply a pause so he could take a deep breath and continue the energy. As an actor, he is trained to react, and nobody has better facial reactions than David Tennant. He rarely has a stoic expression (unless he’s playing Detective Alec Hardy in Broadchurch), and the myriad of natural facial expressions that came across his face while dealing with several uncooperative pens was extremely entertaining. I wish I could have taken a video of it.
Tumblr media
The Con was set up so that the celebrity guests could travel between the photo ops and autograph areas behind secured walls without having to interact or be seen by their adoring fans. David, however, chose to be seen and traveled between events amongst the unwashed masses. Other celebrities would come out behind the magic curtains and wave at their fans, but I don’t remember seeing anyone traveling in the common area between events. If you’ve ever watched him in Doctor Who or seen David move you know he tends to run and is very fast. I honestly believe David doesn’t have a slow speed. The man is 6’1 with a 7ft stride and can cover great distances quickly, he is very fast. There is always a security detail around David because of his popularity, this detail is usually made up of handlers who may or may not know much about him and aren’t exactly trained in security, they are simply human barriers to keep the fans from tackling David. I saw David, surrounded by about 6 individuals in FanX Security t-shirts traveling between venues and it was quite comical. The first time he was doing a slight jog, but moving briskly while the handlers were running to keep up with him. The second time he started off in a brisk walk that swiftly turned into a jog, that basically left the handlers scrambling behind him as they realized their charge had outrun them and he was left unprotected. As the crowd cheered, David smiled and waved acknowledging their adoration when he passed by.
My first interaction was a photo op. All I wanted in this photo was an opportunity to the nearest equivalent to a hug I could get. I wasn’t nervous, but I was excited. When it was my turn, he looked me in the eye, smiled that glorious smile and gave me a very high pitched and excited “Hiiiiiiii, how are you?” I honestly can’t remember what I said or even if I responded coherently. He held his right arm out welcoming me to stand beside him and like a moth to a flame I snuggled up to his side. David takes thousands of pictures with his fans, smiling for most of them, and he has a fake smile that he uses to save his face from going into permanent paralysis and a genuine smile. Knowing this, I wanted to say something to him that would entice him to give me a real smile. I wrapped my arm around his tiny waist (to put things into perspective I have an 18-inch reach and my arm was slack with my hand on his waist), and he put his hand on my back. I squeezed just a little to see how huggable he was and I was not disappointed. For a skinny guy he is extremely huggable and cuddly and if you take a good look at both photos, he is leaning into me. Before the picture was snapped I said something to the effect of, “I flew all the way from Alaska to see you on stage in London as Don Juan,” or at least that is what I intended to say. I honestly believe he gave me a genuine smile because of it. After the camera flashed David turned to look down at me, I also think he even squatted a little to be more on my level, touched my right forearm as he very deftly moved me in front of him to escort me out of the booth and said, “Oh wow, thank you for coming so far, I really appreciate it.” He was still looking me in the eye as I was excited and babbling something about it being the best experience and best performance I’d ever seen. All of the above was only in the first encounter. The encounter lasted maybe 10 seconds but it’s something I will never forget because he was kind, he was gracious, he was humble, and was genuine.
Tumblr media
My second interaction was an autograph later that same day as the photo. I got in line an hour early for the very first autograph session at 4:30 but didn’t get up to the front of the line until the 7:30 session. You could purchase a $100 autograph or you could purchase a customized autograph for $130 where he would personalize an autograph on something you brought, or on one of the stock photos available on the table. I brought one of my tickets from Don Juan for him to sign. For those who don’t know how this works, when you buy your ticket for a personalized autograph you tell the person you buy your ticket from exactly what you want him to write on the item he is signing and they put it on a sticky so he can have the proper spelling and make the line go faster. I simply wanted him to dedicate it to me and sign his name. After the fact, I realized I could have had him write sooooo much more… maybe next time. My sticky note just said, “To Cindy”. When it was my turn, he looked at the sticky note and very excitedly (and again high-pitched) said, “Cindy, Hi there.” Hearing him say my name in his Scottish brogue and then look me in the eye was just unreal. I beamed like an idiot and reminded him again that I came from Alaska to see him on stage. While looking me in the eye he replied, “Oh, well thank you, I’m so glad you came…” he looked at the tickets and continued, “Great seats too. Thank you for coming Cindy.” I’m sure I babbled something about how much I enjoyed it but I was only focused on what he was saying.
Tumblr media
I was a little disappointed in myself for not saying what I truly wanted to say to him but I knew my time was limited and I knew I wanted this experience to be positive for both of us, so I strictly kept to the topic of his stage appearance of Don Juan. What I wanted to tell him was that seeing him on stage in Don Juan in 2017 was the first time I had felt true joy since my mother and sister died in 2016. I wanted to thank him for giving me an opportunity to see him on stage and finally allowing myself to feel something other than despair. I also wanted to tell him how happy it would have made my mom to know that I got to meet him and to find out that he drinks Diet Dr. Pepper (which he happened to be drinking while signing autographs). I knew that if I even attempted to say anything like this I may not be able to hold my composure in his presence and I didn’t want to be that fan that cried. I also knew it would dampen the jovial atmosphere that David tends to generate. Maybe someday when I have more confidence or time I will tell him. But for now, I was happy for what little interaction I had. He said my name twice, he looked me in the eye, he interacted with me as an individual and gave me a gorgeous smile. All in all, it was a great experience.
Thursday was really exhausting, and it was very hot at the Con. I had brought 2 Donna Noble related outfits to wear and had worn the first one on Thursday. The second one was the long gray dress-length shirt and purple cardigan with jeans from “Silence in the Library”. Because it was so hot and because my gray dress-length shirt was long enough, I decided to go as pants-less Donna (no mas pantalones). I wore a sign on my back that read “Donna Temple Noble, Best Temp in Chiswick, Sometimes she forgets…, If found, please return to: Wilfred Mott, Sylvia, The Doctor.” I don’t think David saw it but a few other people did and even recognized my costume. I even had one brave teenaged girl tap me on the shoulder and said, “I don’t know if you know this… but there’s something on your back” (this is a reference to a Doctor Who episode “Turn Left” not the sign on my back). It totally made my day and justified my costume choice. I also added an Alaskan element of a scarf of forget-me-nots, Alaska’s state flower and something that is very integral to the storyline of Donna.
My third and final interaction with David was a photo op first thing Friday around noon. I knew I wanted a pose with my sonic screwdriver and this time I remembered to bring it in with me to the photo booth. When David saw me, he said “Hiiiiii” again in a high pitched excited voice but this time it was slightly different. The way it was pitched indicated to me that he either recognized me from yesterday or recognized that I was attempting to dress as Donna Noble. I’d like to think he recognized me from yesterday, so that is what I’m going to assume. Again, he held out his arm to welcome me to stand beside him. I held out my extended sonic screwdriver to him and he took it looking me in the eye asking, “Oh, do you want me to hold it?” I somehow blurted out the concept that I wanted us to hold it together, to which he very happily complied. He placed it in my hand and then wrapped his hand around mine, he then wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close to him. He was sooooooo close to me I could feel his body heat and when I realized I was close enough to kiss his neck I internally whimpered (at least I hope it was internal) and fought the urge to just nestle into the crook of his neck. You’d think that a man that tall and skinny would be hard, stiff and immovable as a tree, but you’d be wrong. He was soft, squeezable, and for the record, he snuggled into me, not that I was complaining by any means. My suspicions of him being a cuddler and a really good hugger are somewhat confirmed but I believe more research may be in order… for science. I don’t remember if I said anything after the photo but I do remember him handing back my sonic screwdriver, looking me in the eye, smiling, and thanking me for coming.
Tumblr media
Seriously, how can anyone not love this man after an interaction like that???? Remember, he interacted with everyone he came into contact with, with the same enthusiasm, energy, humility, graciousness, and kindness. He is a human being worthy of the adoration and passion his fans give him. You cannot say that about all celebrities, but David is worthy of the time, effort, and money that so many people eagerly spend on him.
No, I did not have the forethought to smell him. I was too busy trying to remember to hold my stomach in, look him in the eye, breathe, and try not to say something stupid to remember to inhale his presence. After the pictures were taken I do remember feeling the sense that he probably smells of sunshine, joy, and the wishes made upon shooting stars. Sorry, I really wished I had taken a big whiff of his essence, but I do know he was very pleasant to be around. Maybe next time I will get to sniff him. Rest assured, there will be a next time.

Aizawa, Chisaki and Mirio's reaction if they mistakenly groped their busty S/O, maybe it can be Headcanons. I just love all your posts.
I just realized that I’ve done over 400 pages worth of content on this blog. Hella man, hella. *such secret happiness to do this request*Oh my god, well look at that, the Mirio one is a novel.
-Mod Pasta🍜🍝
Aizawa Shouta:
🛌He has grown into a habit of putting his hand out to make you stop talking. It was nonverbal training, really, and sometimes he thinks about taking it into the bedroom once you two become physical. You hadn’t been dating him for very long when it happened. Your bust was just an added bonus for him, he didn’t really think much of it.
🛌You had been invited to his classroom, being a top scientist in the area, and you began to ramble like you usually did. The class didn’t know that you two were dating yet, so him reaching out to shut you up was surprising. It was even more surprising when you didn’t realize what he was doing, turning and leaning towards him to see if he wanted to say something to him. He hadn’t realized how much bust you actually had until now, until his hand was directly on it.
🛌The class erupted in screams of delight as Shouta’s jaw dropped for half a second as he his hand returned to him. He quickly closed it, gritting his teeth and seething as you blushed deeply and crossed your arms over your chest, “U-Uhm, Shouta, don’t. Not here.”
“That sounds like a great idea,” he didn’t really make any sense, causing you to laugh wholeheartedly. The giddy class was shut up itself with a sharp glare from the strict teacher.
🛌“Why are they cheering?” You questioned with concern, and he shrugged and zipped himself up into the cocoon you hadn’t even seen him slipping into. You sighed, turning to the outrageous class and trying to get them under hands.
Chisaki Kai:
💊It wasn’t too much of a mistake as it was an unintentional wake up call for Kai.
💊He had been at a meeting, the outfit he had for you being quite revealing, but enough to where he was okay with the other members of large organizations seeing you in it. You were mostly there for aesthetic purposes, and you knew it, so you stayed standing next to your boyfriend who SO owed you ice cream after this. It was taking forever.
💊It was taking so long that you needed to go to the bathroom now. You leaned down just as Kai was referencing with his hands to a chart behind you. His hand happened to collide with your breasts, and the look on his face was priceless, even to the other business officials. It lost all emotion for a second, then his eyes widened as his lips twitched.
“Yes, (F/N)?” His voice was unsteady as his hand slowly dropped to the table and he rubbed it as if he was hurt. Your cheeks alit in a blush, but you remained composed as you leaned down once again.
“I’ll be back, bathroom break,” You whispered, then kissed his ear and promptly spun around to walk out of the room. As you left, a round of insane laughter erupted from the room, muffled by the closing of the door. You giggled to yourself, gently touching the place his hand collided with as you entered the bathroom for a quick break.
💊Kai has neglected to really even think about sex with you unless he wanted to use it as a means to persuade you. He never found any real purpose in it other than hindering his work, but now the gears were working in his head as he calmed the men down with a quick lesson on how to treat his girlfriend.
💊You returned, and the meeting went by quickly without a hitch now that everyone had laughed together and could relate to each other. Once everyone was out of the room, Kai spoke with Kurono for a little bit before ordering him out of the room.
“(F/N),” he snapped, and you perked up from the chair and turned to him. It was the chair he had sat in originally, but you had become weary and bored as always.
“Excuuuuse me, I’m the boss now, I have the boss chair,” You cooed, causing him to groan and chuckle a few times before spinning the chair around a few times. You quickly hopped out of it as your head began to spin as well, “Aw...”
“Incorrect, your rein is over mistress,” he steadied you by grabbing your waist. You smiled up at him, then caught his eyes traveling downwards rather than making eye contact. You grabbed his jacket loosely and tugged at it.
“Kai, you promised not to tease me for the meeting outfits ,” your whine caused his eyes to snap back up, and he slowly removed his mask and grabbed a black one out of his pocket. It was one like what he slept with, but a bit thinner. His hands now rested on your hips, and he finally responded, “Come on, you got the sale, what’s wrong?”
“I’ve been neglecting you,” he stated, leaning down to your lips. Maybe that was why he put the mask on; it was the only time he would “kiss” you. You smiled, leaning up for a quick peck. He chuckled, taking the kiss but also started to kiss down your jaw. You whimpered in surprise, your grip tightening on his jacket.
“What, no, how? What’re you doing?” You struggled to get the words out, and he finally made his way down your neck before encouraging you to step back by walking forward himself.
“What we should have done months ago,” he muttered, his hands massaging your hips and slowly traveling up.
“H-Here?” You exclaimed in surprise before tripping onto the table, a yelp escaping your mouth. His teeth sank into your neck, the mask barely acting as a barrier. By sucking on the skin, his mask became wet and cold with his salvia, but your moans of surprise were enough for him.
Toogata Mirio:
🥞It’s hard to believe that this one was an accident. He greatly admired your strive to be a hero through Yuuei’s hero course, and he admired the drive you had in your eyes when you completed a mission and came back to the dorms. You were usually tired but always ready to share what happened.
What he admires more, though, is the view he gets when you work. Being the busty girl you are, Powder Loader seemed to feel that it was necessary to give you a large lack of clothing even if your quirk had nothing to do with it and your designs were at least five times more modest.
🥞Lumillion had just arrived on the scene, spotting you using your human-whip quirk to gather up a pile of villains and throw them into a pile where you kept the whip loose to keep them tied up. You then continued to fight alongside the other Pro Heroes like Centipeder and Bubble Girl, all on the scene before him because they didn’t have to make up a chemistry test.
🥞Just as you thought that you had the gang leader, he moved in a way you hadn’t expected. He struck low, leaving him wide up. You obviously took the bait, whipping downwards as he shot up. His quirk cut through the fabric of your suit, exposing your chest for the minuscule amount of bystanders that were around. Before any photos could be taken, a certain co-worker of yours phased through you to stand in front of you.
“That was cheap, really,” he shouted, his cheeks a deep red. He threw his cape to you, and you thanked him as you wrapped it around your breasts. He continued the fight with the refreshed villain, and you left the rescuing to the other heroes as you joined Lumillion once again with something to cover you up.
“Fall back, I know how to fight him!” You shouted, pushing Lumillion out of the villain’s narrow line of sight. He unintentionally phased at the contact, causing you to fall to the ground. You yelped, eyes widening as you went to catch yourself. Lumillion was going to catch you, but just then the villain came again.
“Not today,” you heard Lumillion mutter to himself, and you pressed your lips tightly together and started to get up. Just as you went to join him, the villain pulled the same trick as before on you. You didn’t fall for it, moving to the side and kicking him to the ground before whipping his side to make him roll over. You sighed as Lumillion used one of your rope-like whips to tie his hands and waist, being all too familiar with working with you since you interned under the same corporation.
“Nice work, Lumillion,” you smiled as you dragged the villains along with you to the police cars.
“Thanks a million, (Hero Name),” the police waved, and you smiled as you retracted your whips.
“Absolutely, although Lumillion helped a ton,” You elbowed him in the side, to which he humbly denied the credit. You would have laughed, but you had forgotten that the whip you created to wrap up the original pile of villains had been from your back. As it unraveled, it loosened the knot you made on Lumillion’s cape, causing it to slowly start to fall off of you.
“Oh, well, I better be off,” you awkwardly took a step back, cheeks starting to burn with embarrassment as you grabbed your chest and glanced up at Lumillion with pleading eyes. His own widened, and he quickly sent the police on their way before wrapping his arm around your shoulder.
“Alright, let’s find an alleyway to fix this up,” he chuckled, trying not to look down at the valley of your breasts as he practically bear hugged you to keep you out of the public’s eyes.
“Thanks, I’m so sorry about this,” he denied it, saying that it was his pleasure to protect your dignity. As people returned to the site of the fight, they stared more and more at your busty beauty as the silky cape unraveled itself. Just as Mirio spotted a good place to fix it, you squealed and reached for the cape.
“Toogata!” Except, you squealed his name. It was the perfect mixture of absolute need and terror that it set his senses to high. Before looking at your breasts or seeing the cape fly off as men’s phones shot out of their pockets, his arm and hand went to cover your breasts.
“Oh, Thanks,” you awkwardly blinked a couple of times, grateful and strangely okay with the very embarrassing scene. You followed him as he carefully groped one breast and covered the other. He led you to the alleyway as people gawked and recorded the commonly shipped provisional heroes and sent the video to become an overnight sensation.
“I’m sorry, I really should have asked, shouldn’t I?” He spewed apologizes, his cape in hand as he went to the back of the alley and then handed it to you.
“It’s fine, really, you were helping me,” you waved him off, grabbing the cape and turning away from him. His hand lingered, though, on your lovely, perky mounds that felt like pillows against his arm. You glanced down, then disapprovingly back at the boy and snapped, “Toogata.”
“Oh! Sorry,” he instantly removed his hand, then felt his face flush as he caught at least three seconds of your bare breasts. He grabbed the nearby wall for support as his nose became flooded with blood. You groaned, knowing the reaction all too well, and tied his cape tightly. It made you look slightly whorish, but it would work for now.
“I trust you, Toogata, you’re an amazing friend,” you pressed your lips together, turning to him as you tied his much too big cape in a bow at the front, “but, I can tell a crush when I see one.”
“Crush? That’s absurd, I-“ he cut himself off. The nosebleed wasn’t helping, was it? “I’m sorry, (F/N),” he smiled sadly, making eye contact to try and reason with you.
“Well,” you sighed, crossing your arms and patting his arm that was keeping the blood lodged up in his nose, “tell me, is it for my body?”
“No!” He raised his hands in defense, blood dribbling down his front. He grunted in annoyance, starting to push off the wall as he covered himself again, “no, I mean. That has nothing to do with it.”
“Hmm, then you have to defend yourself if you want to go on a date with me on Thursday at five PM at the Theater to see (Horror Romantic Movie),” You hummed, and his jaw dropped before he shook some sense into himself and led the both of you back to Sir and the others, his explanation taking the full thirty minutes it took to find them. He might have take a wrong turn just to give himself more time, but the little details don’t matter.

Why I HATE Brigitte
This is a post all about Brigitte Lindholm, but not out of appreciation. I HATE her. It’s a strong word, but that’s exactly why I’m using it. If I take every aspect of Brigitte’s character into consideration, my judgement does not change. Any way I look at it, she doesn’t belong in a game this good. Let me explain.
Tumblr media
A lot of time, when you get killed in Overwatch, your first thought is “Oh, of course, it’s the ____.” Out of me and everyone I’ve played with, I almost always hear Brig filling this blank. The reason for this is because getting killed by Brig feels cheap, because almost all of her attacks don’t take skill to use.
Tumblr media
The only exception to this is her Whip Shot, which isn’t even that hard to use regardless, and has some pretty damaging effects.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with her most basic ability, her primary attack, the Rocket Flail. In my eyes, Brigitte is built around this flail, as most of her abilities involve it.
Tumblr media
We see a similar thing with McCree, and in both cases the character is defined by the skill dependence of their primary attack. McCree’s Peacekeeper (revolver) takes quite a bit of skill to aim, and only someone who has this skill will do well with it (with the exception of stuns, which I’ll get to later).
Tumblr media
However, with Brigitte, her primary attack is literally melee, meaning that she has to do very little aim with it, as you can clearly see in the photo (both me and my aim are miles away from that bot). Additionally, she doesn’t even have to think about ammo, or anything else that McCree players have to take into account. Also, as the definition says, this attack has a farther range over regular melee, making it even better, which you can also see in the photo.
Tumblr media
Not to mention, this attack can hit multiple enemies at once, making it pretty powerful in conjunction with thing’s like Zarya’s Ultimate, Graviton Surge. In this case, a Brigitte can have her damage boosted by things like Mercy’s staff or Ana’s ultimate ability (an “Ult”), and could wipe out a team with very little effort.
With many of her abilities coming up next, I really want to prove the point that almost all of Brigitte’s kit borrows (or steals) ideas and functionalities from other heroes. Her ultimate ability, Rally, is no exception.
Tumblr media
This ultimate steals almost directly from Torbjorn, her father, and Lucio (and I‘m glad to say that he is miles away from her in terms of story, because I like Lucio). With this, she gains speed (a big part of Lucio’s kit), and gives team mates within a certain radius of her (literally Lucio as a whole) extra armor (from Torb’s old kit) over time, which is permanent. In other words, this armor stays on an ally until it’s hit off of them through damage. Also, armor has benefits in terms of survivability over regular health, making this even worse. Oh, and one last thing. Brigitte isn’t made useless during this time, that would make too much sense for a support hero. Instead, she gets to use all of her other abilities during this time, which just sucks to go against.
Tumblr media
Her repair pack ability is almost entirely stolen from Torbjorn and Zenyatta. It has the health benefits of Torb’s ability (+75 armor), and has the simple and easy-to-use targeting system of Zenyatta’s orbs. The main difference from Torb’s is that it prioritizes healing over armor. If the recipient has 25 less HP than their max, then it would fill that 25 health and add on the remaining 50 armor as extra. It has a cooldown of about 6 seconds, which compliments her other healing ability pretty well, because that one’s working almost constantly. In a perfect world, this would be the ability focused most on, since she’s a support hero, who’s meant to heal more than do damage.
Tumblr media
Next up is her whip shot, which is the “skillful” one I mentioned before (because plot twist, you actually need to aim with it). It has the hitbox/usage of Roadhog’s hook when you throw it, and has multiple effects. Although it doesn’t stun the poor soul on the other side of this thing. It does 70 damage (quite a bit), and launches them farther away, very similar to Lucio’s secondary ability.
Tumblr media
Her barrier shield is pretty much a poor man’s version of Reinhardt’s barrier. It covers only Brigitte, and has 500 health (this is quite a bit, especially when you compare it to a fully healed up Winston). This protects her from the front, but you can simply turn around as you’re using it to block behind you.
Tumblr media
The most hated ability, Shield Bash, simply shouldn’t be in the game. On top of giving her movement benefits (there used to be a way to hit a sloped surface and fly into the air), it does multiple different things. It does a decent amount of damage to another player (50 to be exact) and more importantly, it stuns them. Stuns in Overwatch interrupt a lot of regular abilities, quite a few ultimate abilities, and almost always guarantee death for the recipient, or at least a big loss of health.
While characters like McCree have to use their stuns sparingly, Brigitte can use her quite a bit. The cooldown time of it has increased since her launch, but in my eyes she shouldn’t even have the stun in the first place. It allows her to pretty much kill a Tracer instantly assuming she executes a simple combo well, and it is extremely frustrating to be hit by.
Tumblr media
Her last ability, Inspire, is her main healing ability. It heals her and nearby team mates pretty slowly for 5 seconds after hitting someone with one of her flail abilities. For example, you could hit an enemy once, doing 30 damage with melee, then you would heal 5 team mates for 5 seconds each, doing a total of about 250 to 300 healing just by hitting an enemy once, which I’ve shown isn’t that hard to do.
Tumblr media
Now, that’s all just been her kit and what she can do. I’ve barely even gotten to the main problems with her, primarily being that in general, she does way too much. Whether you look at her individual abilities or at her role in a team, they all do too much relative to the amount of effort the player must put in.
As a support character, you’d expect her to be the pray, rather than the predator, because that’s usually how it is. However, with her stunning and high damage abilities, this flips that trend on its head.
Tumblr media
I like Ana. Her skill dependence pays off well, as her abilities are pretty powerful. However, almost everything about her requires practice or game sense to use. She has long cool downs, which promotes the conservation of her abilities so you wont get “caught with your pants down.” She might be able to take down someone attacking her, but you’ll have to use most of her kit, and use it well.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Brigitte has the same role as a support hero, but instead goes on the offensive, and does that too well. As I mentioned before, she can kill heroes like Tracer and “Baby DVA” (DVA without a mecha unit) with a simple combo, and they have no chance of escaping it. This combo doesn’t make much skill to use, and I can already use it well (I’ll show you why that’s surprising later). Also, the abilities that she has to use aren’t on very long cool downs, sometimes taking half the time to recharge compared to Ana’s abilities, which can take up to 12 seconds.
Tumblr media
When I say Brigitte is a support hero, that’s just what the game SAYS she is. In reality, she fills pretty much every role in the game, and as I’ve shown, between her healing and her offensive abilities, doesn’t take much practice or skill to do it.
Additionally, the game even portrays her to be easy to play, with a 1 star difficulty rating as you can see in the picture. The point of this difficulty statement is to show that a hero with a lower one will be easy to play, but you won’t get much out of it. Because this system targets new players learning all of the abilities (that’s the page its on), it’s important to show who they may do well with in the beginning.
Tumblr media
This is true with someone like Roadhog, who can definitely do work against the enemy team, but at a certain point an amazing Roadhog player can’t do anymore to impact his opponents.
This difficulty statement works to show that Roadhog is an easy character to play, but you probably won’t be turning heads by how well you’re doing.
Tumblr media
In contrast, a character like Genji takes quite a bit of practice to use correctly, but can cause devastation in the enemy team. The difficulty statement shows this, as you’ll hear of a lot of “Pro Genjis,” while you generally don’t hear the same thing about Roadhog players.
Now, back to Brigitte. Her difficulty works to show that she’s an easy character to play, but fails to say that she CAN do a lot, because the 1 star difficulty generally means that you are limited as a character; at a certain point, you can’t do any more to “turn heads.”
Let’s take a break from gameplay. What about her character?
Tumblr media
Like her abilities, she borrows a lot from other characters. However, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt because this is common for other characters: you could say something similar about Genji, whose story involves many other heroes.
As you can see in the photo above, she followed in her father’s footsteps (Torbjorn), and as I mentioned before this is shown in many of her abilities. She always wanted to be an engineer, and now she’s taken it to the battlefield.
Tumblr media
Also, she was a “squire” to Reinhardt, a character who’s had a lot of importance in Overwatch’s story.
Personally, I’m not too mad about her story. She has a few roots in other characters, but doesn’t “invade” too much into the rest of the story. However, in my eyes, a problem arises with her personality and voice lines.
Tumblr media
A lot of Brigitte’s tone and voice lines portray a person who loves to taunt her enemies, while trying to be optimistic with her team. Personally, I hate this, primarily when it’s done in combination with her abilities. After feeling cheated by getting killed by her powerful and easy-to-use abilities, she’ll usually follow up with a taunt or laugh, just to make you feel even worse about being killed. These bad manners aren’t uncommon in Overwatch (”ggez,” and things of that sort), but the fact that this is pretty much encouraged in terms of Brigitte is pretty awful.
In terms of trends in Overwatch (aka “Metas”), there’s plenty more to talk about. The last thing I’ll leave you with is this:
Tumblr media
Brigitte is my least played character, and I intend to keep it that way. In fact, I’ve never actually chosen to play her, these 10 minutes were only in Mystery Heroes, where you have to be killed by an enemy to change heroes, and you have no choice who to play. In other words, I refuse to bring this much pain to my enemies, no matter how badly I may be losing. See? I have standards.

Breakbot + Busy P + MYD + Alan Braxe + Borussia @ XOYO, 26 May 2018  [Review]
Tumblr media
A fantastic reward for the comedy of errors that is my life.
Been a while since I did a review of a gig! Technically, I should have done one for Justice last September, but given the amount of content I gained from that performance, I keep thinking that one has to be several gifsets and a video upload instead of me rambling on. I’ll get to it in a billion years;;; Over the weekend I went to this all-nighter and didn’t sleep for like, 30 hours? And I’m still recovering. So much like the TBB review last year, this is going to read super disjointed, like a bunch of random stream-of-consciousness notes I took over several hours. (Which 70% of this review actually relies on.) There are pics and a few lil’ gifs, all splendidly red-tinted to reflect the lighting in the club, but the tl;dr is essentially:
Tumblr media
The Journey
As previously stated, I do not live in London. London is not easy to navigate. I do not have the strongest sense of direction and frequently map out walking paths and exact number of turns and landmarks nearby my intended destinations, which works for me 9/10 of the time - but this means that when things go bad, they tend to go really bad holy fucking shit under the influence of certain factors XOYO is the hardest fucking club to find in the entire universe. I have never had this much trouble finding a single location despite having such clear directions from multiple sources. It’s not the club’s fault, of course, thousands of people find it just fine - the stars just utterly refused to align for me this particular weekend, turning what should have been a straightforward path from A to B to over an hour of running around.
Tumblr media
To attend to this spectacular all-nighter, I took the train from my university city to London, alighting in King’s Cross St. Pancras around 7pm. XOYO is located about a minute away from Old Street Station, which as you can see from the above image of the Northern Line is only two stops away; I could have been at the club in less than ten minutes. Because of this, I was slow to take the Tube when I initially arrived, instead stopping for a snack and some adequate hydration at King’s Cross (also tutting at Platform 9¾ which is not that impressive a display but that’s neither here nor there); I don’t think that was unwise in itself, but it was a decision that I ended up regretting, because it meant I didn’t find out about the spanner in the works until it was almost too late.
Tumblr media
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
A five-minute journey on a single subway train from A to B was all I was asking. Well it turns out I couldn’t do that!!! Because fucking engineering works!!!! All the Northern line service bilboards and directional posters were papered over and the information being given was often deeply counterproductive (or outright incorrect). First I was directed to Euston to try to make a switch there, but no Northern line services were running at all. Then I came back to King’s Cross and subsequently tried out Moorgate on the Circle/Metropolitan line, which was running Northern line services - but nothing northbound, like I needed! This was exceptionally infuriating because Moorgate is only one stop away from Old Street station. I was delayed for nearly an hour purely trying to solve this problem, because even past 7-8pm the stations were s t u f f e d with people all trying to navigate this Northern line dilemma in their own way. This line splits along the way, too, so depending on where you’re headed to and where in the ‘part closure’ your intended destination sits, you could be lost in utterly infuriating bullshit like I did, being only 1-2 stops away from where you are and being unable to get to it unless you walk or take overhead transport.
And, you know, those people had already paid and gone past the barrier when they found out about the closures. Most of that info could only be had inside. At King’s Cross St Pancras, the only info available outside the barrier were announcements on rail replacement buses - confusingly worded at that, all three of them entirely northbound from King’s Cross St Pancras (I needed southbound for Old Street). The London Underground isn’t obscenely expensive, but it’s not disposable money either! There’s a bus directly from King’s Cross to Old Street Station (which I ended up taking in order to return) - but if you paid and entered the Tube station, you’re going to want to solve the problem before signing back out of the barrier!
fml in the end I just walked. 7-8 mins from Moorgate and then XOYO itself is hidden in an alley between two massive building complexes with naught but a red neon sign to point your way. It’s not a big neon sign. On one hand maybe it was a good thing I was held up traveling. I arrived about 5 mins after the club opened and was let in straight away. If things had gone as I’d planned I might have ended up camping out in front of XOYO for an extremely awkward hour or whatever. There was no queue; despite it all, I was that early, and was amply rewarded for my earliness. But man.
On the other hand, I was dehydrated all over again.
Hour-by-Hour Review
Contrary to the anguished nature of the vent above, most of the night was damn excellent and the review below is the main meat of the experience. I recollected this through small notes I was making on my phone - mostly of timestamps and a single keyword, like what songs were playing at the time - and some videos I took, the position of each photo, and my own memory from yesterday. They are patchy notes, but they are as detailed as I can make them, and largely accurate. Essentially: if you’ve read this far, I invite you to come live the night with me all over again! :D
9:30PM - 11:00PM: I was the only person seeking entry to XOYO when I finally turned up, though music was already playing inside. “You here for an event?” The guard asks, and I produce my ticket and passport. “Just so you know, there’s a band playing in there at the moment - the actual, uh, techno, that’s not going to start until ten o’clock. You can go in now, but once you’re in, you’re in - you won’t be able to come back out and back in again.”
I just look at them. “What am I going to do outside for half an hour. That’s fine.”
Ticket scanned, passport checked and confirmed, bag check occurs. I read that XOYO has airport-security level bag checks, but that was not my experience. I might just have been too damn early to raise any alarms. I’m let in, visit the bar, buy some water, visit the bathroom, tidy up a bit, tie my jacket around my waist to conceal my bag, etc. Around 9:45PM I peer down at the main room downstairs to check out this band, although I come back up shortly to prepare for the main experience...
... which, uh, doesn’t take place until eleven. After the band leaves around 10PM, what actually happens is that the main room is sealed off for DJ setups while in Room 2 upstairs Joshua James plays. I had the choice of saving my energy for later and resting on the bench, or going to see him; I chose the former. Security guy lingering in front of the main room says it might open in ‘half an hour’ when I ask him on the dot at 10PM. My guy that’s the longest damn half hour I have ever waited in my life. At least I can people-watch and save my place because like always, I want to be at the front when the doors open.
11:00PM: The main room finally opens and Borussia is in the house. The dancefloor is very empty for about half an hour while he gets the crowd going. Ushers frequently come by, brandishing red penlights to take away glasses and empty bottles and lost property and the like. XOYO only has a max capacity of 800~ people and I’m fairly sure that’s spread across two rooms; the glasses are like, proper solid pub glasses, too, actual breakage hazards. I imagine it’s because it’s a small and intimate club that the choice of glasses makes sense; even in Electric Brixton they gave out plastic, and that one holds close to 2000 people. I saw several toppling over or rolling on the ground before someone came to snatch up the whole stack of them. I applaud their diligence.
11:10PM: Also this dancefloor is incredibly sticky. Pedro is visible on the left. He talks to a backstage fan before disappearing.
11:23PM: There’s a girl next to me with her boyfriend. We meet eyes. This girl will recur a few more times during the night. Swig of water taken.
11:30~PM: A note about the stage structure of XOYO.
As mentioned previously, XOYO is a two-room club, one upstairs and one downstairs. Downstairs is the main and the top one’s for opening acts and smaller shows; the downstairs has a dancefloor, a bar off to the side, and an elevated stage. Now the important thing about this stage is that you can get on it. There are no barriers between audience and DJ in a XOYO set, except for the ready-built DJ booth and all the speakers and equipment set that may or may not be piled around it. There is a steel mesh of sorts to separate the sides of the DJ booth from the stage/dancefloor viewing area, but aside from that, it is entirely possible for you to mount the performing stage and be about two feet from the DJ at any given time. Around this time is when people begin to mount the stage and like. Dance. But sparsely.
I will return to this stage later. I’m currently parked in front of the DJ booth.
11:40~PM:
Tumblr media
Pedro pops back into the scene briefly. He doesn’t linger for long there, but he’ll be back for the switchover. This is the best photo I could get ffffff
11:40~PM (not long after the above): Borussia puts Gorillaz’s ‘DARE’ on and the room goes fucking wild. The girl returns. This time we meet more than eyes and actually dance together, her boyfriend hitching her up on his back for about 30 seconds midway. This is the first point of the night that Borussia starts smiling and I’m taken by how sweet his smile is.
11:54PM: You know what I think Borussia kind of looks like Gesa if you squint
12:00~AM: Pedro in the house. He takes over slowly from Borussia, who exits amidst thunderous applause. For some reason, Pedro did not look awfully happy for most of the show. Compared to the last time I saw him DJ (opener for Justice) he seemed like... stoic? Like he had a lot in his mind. He was capable of cheer when need be, man knows how to drive a crowd, but like... the air about him was different. I have no explanation for this. It may just have been my perception.
12:00 - 12:30AM (?): I genuinely cannot remember when this first happened, only I remember Pedro being at the forefront and giving the people involved an amused glance at some point in the night. So it goes here, even though they might first have appeared during Borussia. Two incredibly scantily dressed and also gorgeous dancers, one male and one female (visibly), rolled out of the backstage area and began dancing on the elevated stage around the same time e v e r y o n e began piling on. I’d kill for the ability to dance on the heels they did holy fuck
12:13AM: I CAN SEE IRFANE OFF TO THE SIDE YES HE CAME AFTER ALL I know he’s officially part of Breakbot now but the XOYO description made it sound as if only Thibaut was coming. False alarm! The duo lives on.
12:28AM (?): Girl I was dancing with earlier + her boyfriend reappears from the bar direction. She mounts the elevated stage and disappears into the crowd.
12:30AM (?): THIBAUT AND SO-ME SPOTTED I WANT TO ATTACH THE PHOTO OF THIS MOMENT but it’s too blurry fuck shit
12:34AM: With a grin worth a million pounds Pedro puts on ‘Audio, Video, Disco’. Lighting changes to bombastic yellow and everybody just about dies for the next five minutes to follow. This was universally the reception whenever anything Daft Punk or Justice came on (Pedro also played ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ immediately after) - many people, Thibaut included, had Justice shirts on and earlier on the 26th Justice played a set on All Points East, so this was understandable.
12:39AM: Fuck it. I’m going on the elevated stage. I just hitched myself up.
12:40~AM: I can see so much better from here.
There’s a bit on the stage where the steel mesh barrier ends, and the DJ set curves away from the rest of the stage, where you can see everyone in the booth really clearly. Currently this spot is occupied by a dude and a girl who I progressively come to realize was getting increasingly drunk/high - she was clinging onto the sides - so I just gravitate towards the steel mesh instead, neglected by most people. For most part my view is blocked by people hanging around from backstage but every now and then they vacate, and I get a good side view. Not long after I settle in, Thibaut pops up for a short while, swigging from a bottle - and the girl I was dancing with from before almost crashes into the mesh shouting her hellos at him. (This is when I realize that she’s French.)
And, uh, I mean. What can you do when a thing like that happens. I join in, of course. Thibaut did not hear either of us before slinking back, but this did have the effect of the girl patting me on the shoulder for our first real conversation:
French girl: [Muffled something]
Me: Ah?
French girl: [After a few tries through the noise] You like Thibaut?
Me: Yeah! Came to see him mostly!
French girl: 😍💖😍💖😍 I’M THE BIGGEST FAN 😍💖😍💖😍
The oddest thing is that during this exchange, the boyfriend guy with her kind of gently takes off my hat and tries to put it back on me backwards. I have no idea what the fuck and I give him a look that conveys that I have no idea what the fuck ‘cause like... dude why are you taking my hat exactly??? Am I missing something??? I replace it and carry on. The girl’s swept away towards the bar again.
12:40~AM: Pedro is the only person who can pull off LeLe’s ‘Breakfast’ in a DJ set without it descending into narm territory imo
12:40~AM: MYD IS HERE MYD IS HERE
Tumblr media
1:00AM: Thibaut and Irfane take over at last, the latter first, then Thibaut more fully. Mama P stays at the back, watching over the situation, before silently withdrawing.
Tumblr media
The stage is so crowded I can barely breathe. French girl does not return. Ushers begin to move about the dancefloor carrying large foreboding black bags, not for glasses but for lost property.
1:00~AM: J E S U S
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:10~AM: So-Me is the third one in the booth. I wish people would announce it properly whenever he turns up - I didn’t think to expect him at all, as he was not there with Pedro when I saw him open for Justice and his name wasn’t on the guests list. He feels like a lottery treat ; w ;
Tumblr media
1:10~AM: Usher on the elevated stage. He finds a credit card on the floor and flashes an exact 🤨 look in my direction, as I was the closest to him. “Not mine,” I mouth at him, and he stashes the card in the lost property bag before vanishing into the crowd.
1:11AM: Come to think of it I’ve seen people lose some seriously scary shit on dancefloors. Like when I went to see TBB and Justice, on both occasions I’ve seen someone lose their foreign identity card. I’d be fucking terrified for my life if that happened to me - and given that I’m toting my passport around (some places don’t seem to accept BRP...?), which I cannot afford to lose whatsoever, I enter a state of brief panic while I check that nothing has been thieved from my bag. All clear.
1:23-25AM: Jesus Christ Irfane is so touchy-feely with Thibaut they’re in love I’m literally crying
1:30~AM: Because of the above mentioned affection-shenanigans, I stop dancing in order to get some photos and videos of the pair. One of the backstage fans notices. “Do you want me to take a picture for you?” He shouts through the mesh; I hesitate, because I’m not in the business of giving my phone away to strangers, but I take the risk. It turned out he made this offer during a period of very weird lighting and it wasn’t a good time for photos, but this is the best out of several attempts from him:
Tumblr media
“It’s not a good time,” he shouts as he hands my phone back over. “sorry.”
“Thank you anyway,” I holler through the bars. He flashes a grin and we carry on.
1:30~AM (after the above): Remember the scantily dressed gorgeous dancers? They’re back, dancing on a bunch of speakers (?) next to the side view. Drama with the (drunk?) girl hogging the side view; she gets into a conflict with one of the dancers and it gets really fucking tense. I’m not 100% on what happened, but I can imagine that something that wasn’t meant to be touched was touched or that she was giving the dancer some serious attitude - like the girl was literally grabbing the (drunk?) girl by the face and telling her to get a fucking grip. The dude with her eventually leads her away and the dancers dismount the stage, disappearing into the crowd - I didn’t see them return again, which was a right shame.
tl;dr I took the empty spot and was able to photo marginally better than before.
1:35AM:
Tumblr media
Jesus God this is heavenly
1:41AM:
Tumblr media
Best quality: his wiggles
(He was mouthing along to ‘Why?’.)
1:40~AM: I keep thinking I stepped on something. This continues for some five minutes before I finally look down and yep whoops I was stepping on something all right. It was a hefty croc leather wallet/purse thing, all black, very sticky from the floor. I set it down in front of me and handed it over to an usher less than two minutes after. Another swig of water. Thibaut’s wiggles do not in any way pale next to Irfane’s.
Tumblr media
1:50AM (?): Yet another event I know happened but can’t remember where exactly to place. ‘My Toy’ comes on. I hear this one is a fan favourite and while I can think of better songs in Still Waters, I get to see for myself just how true this statement is. In fact, Breakbot played quite a few of their stuff - not a lot, but enough to bring on significant cheers whenever they did. ‘Back For More’ was the starter and ‘Fantasy’ came on at some point but ‘My Toy’ was easily the most popular of the lot!
2:00AM: Alan Braxe takes over. Irfane and Thibaut continue to linger, as does So-Me, but I’m beginning to see Myd far more often - he must provide the climax to this all-nighter. He had a vinyl signing earlier on the 26th; he’s greeted with cheers whenever he’s visible.
2:00 - 4:00AM: A broad sweeping observation to indicate that my phone is dying a horrible death by this point of the night. I brought an external battery and had it going again once I left the club, but fuck trying to fumble with that in the middle of a club. All those photos did it, especially the videos, and burning the battery on that so quickly was not a good idea because I wanted to take more of Alan and Myd boo
2:20~AM: Alan’s set is considerably darker in tone. Probably more like what I’m used to before I got into EDM, in fact. I consider him responsible for the mild whiplash I got from headbanging.
2:24AM: XOYO’s smoke machines are at their peak performance around this time and I can barely see a thing. Not being a big venue, this is a problem. Irfane and Thibaut and So-Me pop back up for a selfie with one of the backstage fans and rope Alan into participating; he does so exactly once and turns back, as professional as always, while the other stay on for a second and third go.
2:30~AM: wHAT’S THAT I HEAR???? CRESCENDOLLS?????
2:30~AM: IT’S CRESCENDOLLS
2:35AM: Hey remember when it took Irfane 10 years to figure out the Very Disco = Veridis Quo pun
2:40~AM: By this point I’m getting super hungry and I’m just about out of water. Water in XOYO is expensive. Something like 2.50 for a 300ml bottle. The DJs had a stack of these bottles by the side and were powering through them at alarming speed when they weren’t drinking other things. It’s my policy to go early and buy a bottle of water at the bar of wherever I attend a gig or concert, pretty much always. It’s my first time running out with more than an hour to go, though, but despite this I keep dancing with the empty bottle clutched in my hand. I don’t actually remember why. Maybe I thought I’d fill it up after the show or something. Spoilers: I didn’t
2:55AM: Right as Myd is taking over some dude pokes me and asks to have a sip of my water. I should not have been dancing with that empty bottle. He looks disgruntled when I tell him it’s empty and moves on. Sorry my dude I only wish I’d have been able to spare even a drop but I was genuinely out;;;;;
3:00 - 4:00AM: I hate having to sum it up like this but due to aforementioned factors (dying legs + low battery + lack of water) I do not actually remember much of Myd’s set. This is a great injustice to the man and it’s pretty much entirely my fault for not taking any time to rest (seating was provided near the bar) or not buying myself another drink; next time he’s in the UK, wherever he may be and whoever he might be with, I shall make the effort to hunt him down and give him a proper listen. What I remember of his set was brilliant, cheery but mysterious, coupled with Daft Punk’s ‘Rock n’ Roll’ somewhere in the middle. Please enjoy this terrible picture of him taken with my phone’s dying strength.
Tumblr media
3:18AM: I can timestamp this accurately because it’s on the last video I took of the night. Enjoy some Myd wiggles
Tumblr media
3:30~AM: This was roughly when ‘Rock n’ Roll’ was on! Irfane chatting away in the corner. So-Me lending a hand. Five minutes in he leans over and distributes stickers (I think) into the crowd. I was sadly on the other side and did not get a chance to receive any.
3:40~AM: People are beginning to hunker down on the elevated stage or leaving altogether. The night is drawing to a close.
3:55AM: Phone blinks out completely at this point. XOYO is open from 9:30pm-4am on Fridays and Saturdays (also 21+ years only policy, which I appreciate) so I figured Myd should be winding down about now. Every DJ participating so far has switched out/bowed out after an hour, after all. Myd might need a minute more to think about it.
4:03AM: Myd might need three more minutes to think about it.
4:04AM: Myd might need four or five more minutes to think about it.
4:10AM: Myd why are you doing this. Myd it’s past closing time. Myd my guy you’re pouring ambrosia upon the unworthy. Myd ple
4:15AM~: In the end I leave a few minutes early. I have to stress that this had absolutely nothing to do with the quality of Myd’s set nor that he was playing beyond closing time - encores and extra content are extremely good! It’s just that my legs were dead! ;A  ; I limped upstairs and washed my face etc and he was still playing when I came out. That’s dedication.
The End
As soon as it’s actually over, cheers went up - and as I’m sitting at the bench near the entrance of the club just trying to get my shit together, everyone files out all at once to a bunch of weary-looking security guards wishing us all a good night.
I join the line. It’s bright outside already. Some of the guards offer to call us a cab and some of the people take them up on it. I myself walk out of the club, turn left, and down Old Street Yard to examine the bus stops. One of the bus lines are 24hr and go directly to King’s Cross; as I reach one of the relevant stops and lean around, trying to figure out the times, the French girl from earlier recognizes me and pats me on the shoulder. “You were the girl dancing next to me, right?”
“Yep, that’s me.”
“How are you?”
“I’m good and so exhausted I could melt into the floor.”
She giggles and bids me goodnight as she moves to another bus stop. I didn’t get to ask her about Thibaut, as she wasn’t by me when he came on, but I can only assume she had a good time too. Soon the 214 comes along and I hop on towards King’s Cross. The sun is rising and the white noise in my legs dissipates, just a little, only to be gone completely some twenty hours later. Feels good man.

Design: petrjanda/brainwork – Petr Janda as lead architect

Regula Penthouse Prague apartment property
Motto: “city as a living room”
Idea
The main idea is to blur the boundaries of the apartment and emotionally draw the city into its interior. The space of the apartment is not limited within the physical layout, the city surrounding the building becomes part of it and the added facade glazing only maintains the comfort of the indoor climate, connecting the city into an extended peripheral perception. The original apartment was rebuilt into a penthouse: a house on a house.
The site plan concept is based on the character and potential of the “site”; in this case, two roof-top floors in a corner house on the border of a built-up area that opens across the valley into the extensive context of distant views.
The architectural design draws on the unique superposition of the penthouse above all surrounding buildings and takes advantage of the panoramic view. It revises the impact of the compromising reconstruction done by a developer towards the original genius loci of the building, clarifying all the detailed relationships between the exterior elements, especially in the large-area glazing in the upper floor of the tower, allowing a spectacular view from all windows with minimal division of individual glazed areas.
As it is not possible to work with the historical connotation in the part of the building we designed (it is a superstructure, partially re-created corner tower of the original water reservoir with added wings) and it is a reconversion for typologically different use (housing), we do not work with the debatable “industrial” character of the building or with aestheticism with clear loft features. The leitmotif is the free and continuous flow of the interior throughout the space and its endless optical continuation into the surrounding city.
The layout articulates the division of the apartment into private and social zones, balancing the full and empty spaces separated by the steel membrane of the undulating partition orbiting the elevator and the entrance staircase. Behind this membrane, all of the private rooms, with their own perimeter terrace, are hidden.
The tension between the entrance bay surrounded by a steel partition and the endless free space of the tower becomes the basis of the natural dramaturgy of movement in the apartment. Although the penthouse is primarily extroverted, its user comfort can be modulated into an intimate space by drawing the screens and curtains.
The membrane of the main partition, going smoothly through the apartment, creates a private world behind it, hidden from the sight of visitors, and keeps the division intuitively readable only for the inhabitants of the apartment. The private part is divided into individual living sections (master bedroom and children’s rooms), with its own “protected” world and unique view and contact with the city landscape. It maintains a “splendid isolation” section for parents, with a master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom, and separates the children’s section.
The adjoining terraces follow this basic logic and are naturally divided by contacting each of the rooms in a different direction, with a different façade. The master bedroom is connected to a bathroom with solitary bath and hidden niches with toilets and showers and is accessible through the hall with a library adjoining the walk-in wardrobe. The children’s section, consisting of two separate children’s rooms, is accessible from the corridor bay through a hall with a bathroom.
The apartment can be entered through either the staircase orbiting the elevator shaft or the barrier-free lift into the corridor bay surrounded by a steel wall containing built-in wardrobes and shoe cabinets and doors to all private parts. The doors are hidden in the steel wall and can be opened by invisible recessed no-handle mechanisms; the wardrobes, by push-to-open mechanisms.
The living space of the tower works with the dramaturgy of gradual discovering and opening the space from the entrance bay towards the panoramic open living space connected through both floors. The structural floor-to-ceiling glazing on the lower floor follows the pattern of the apartment below and is complemented by French windows, while the glazing on the upper floor has no pattern. Each of the five sides of the tower is made of one single 4-glass pane, bonded structurally only in subtle corners of mutual contact; the sixth side is divided into three identical sliding components that connect it with the roof garden. The garden is connected to the interior by a wooden terrace shaded by a retractable awning integrated into the facade.
The garden is designed around a central hill above the elevator shaft, allowing a higher layer of substrate for intense greenery (seemingly “self-seeding” birch trees). Towards the edge, it changes into grass and flowerbeds formed by compositions of ornamental and agricultural vegetation with edible fruits. Around the edge of the roof is a subtle steel railing with a rope string not visible in the tall grasses and perennials. The terraces on the lower level of the apartment are made of wooden decks with the planks following the pattern of the interior floor.
They are lined with flower boxes with grasses and herbs. A suspended steel staircase sculpturally inserted into an elliptical cut-out in the ceiling creates the dominant element of the two-storey living space. The staircase hides a library in the space created by the plastic shaping of the ceiling. The kitchen follows the continuous shaping of the entrance partition and is designed as a solid back and a “floating” island, creating an integral composition flowing to the lower part of the living space with dining table and seating furniture.
The kitchen is connected to the rear kitchen room and pantry, accessible from both the kitchen area and the hallway. This module is connected to the laundry and utility room, accessible through a steel partition via a hidden door. In the opposite part of the kitchen bay, there is a guest bathroom hidden behind the round wall, accessible directly from the social part of the apartment. The toilet and the shower are placed in niches using the same method as in the other bathrooms.
Structure and materials
Structurally, it is a client reconstruction of the rough structure by means of major reconstruction, including significant interventions in the layers handed over in the shell-and-core state. As part of the intervention, the perimeter cladding done by the developer was completely removed and replaced with atypical large-format glazing using structural four-pane glazing with corresponding shading by large screen blinds, optimizing heat gains and losses and ensuring maximum user comfort, together with the indoor climate control system.
All partitions were removed to create a continuous layout. As it was taken over during the building process, the design respects the existing load-bearing structures (with the exception of one column, which was replaced) and integrates them into the layout, simplifying the installation cores by merging and leading them in the floor and ceiling using the residual spaces (below the entrance staircase) as a technical base.
The materials used correspond to the light and mostly white space and its division into two “worlds” by a dominant dark steel partition. Its surface is treated from both sides using etching, sanding and polishing on a hot-rolled black steel sheet sandwiched on a wood-fibre board. All of the doors and openings are frameless, cut into the continuous surface of this partition.
The floor is made of wide planks running perpendicular to the main facade through the entire apartment and continuing to the planks on the terraces. The ceilings are finished with a fine texture, including the recessed parts of the lights and air conditioning and integrated covers for hanging swings and other elements on the upper floor. The railing of the interior staircase creates a rising and descending curve so as to interrupt the panoramic view as little as possible and equipped with a hammock with access to the place where the handrail touches the floor. The space is lit using diffused reflected light and hidden lines lining the curves of the partitions.
Technological design
The project works with a high-end technological solution corresponding to the most progressive standard currently achievable. The technologies are intentionally concealed, and therefore, practically invisible, and remain a hidden force in the apartment’s background. The indoor temperature control is based on low-temperature transmission; the temperature changes are not perceivable. The system creates an ambient climate and maintains a comfortable temperature without the obvious flow of air during its exchange.
The hidden heating and cooling distribution is integrated into the floors and ceilings, and the air-conditioning distributed through the slits lining the windows is also almost invisible and does not distract from the visual design of the apartment. The primary energy source is an air-to-air heat pump hidden in an acoustically separated shaft on the terrace. The maximally open façade is complemented with large exterior screens in white that shade sunlight and remain transparent from the inside, even when closed, to maintain contact with the city.
Regula Penthouse (“city as a living room “)
The main idea is to blur the boundaries of the apartment and emotionally draw the city into its interior. The space of the apartment is not limited within the physical layout; the city surrounding the building becomes part of it and the added facade glazing only maintains the comfort of the inside. The superposition of the penthouse – a house on a house – uses a panoramic view through large frameless insulating quadruple-pane glass.
The layout is clearly divided into private and social zones, balancing the full and empty spaces separated by the steel membrane of the undulating partition orbiting the elevator and the entrance staircase. Behind this membrane, all of the private rooms, with their own perimeter terrace, are hidden. The tension between the entrance bay and the endless free space becomes the basis of the natural dramaturgy of movement in the apartment.
Although the entire penthouse is primarily extroverted, its user comfort can be modulated into an intimate introverted space by drawing the screens and curtains. The roof garden is designed around a central hill covering the elevator shaft with grassy areas and flower beds formed by an ornamental and commercial vegetation with edible fruits.
The project works with a high-end technological solution corresponding to the most progressive standard currently achievable. At the same time, the technologies are intentionally concealed, and therefore, practically invisible, and remain a hidden force in the apartment’s background. The heating and cooling are imperceptibly transmitted through ceilings and floors, the exchange of air through the gaps between the floor and the perimeter glass.

About studio
We look for authenticity hidden in every task. We always start from scratch, trying to avoid usual architectural cliché and reinvent the core basics in slightly different shades and moods. Our approach is based on interconnecting physical and metaphysical layers of the project, resonating of form and content and engaging sculptural methods with the conceptual tendencies.
We consider initiation of projects to be part of our work, reflecting not only architectural, but also programme, content and social aspects. We do not work with usual inspiration or archetypes. For a long time, we have been using the subliminal method of nomadic thinking, which G. Deleuze and F. Guattari defined with this impressive metaphor:
The nomad “sets out to the desert. He leaves the camp and starts a journey through the lands, watching the movements on sky. In the morning he leaves the territory towards a new land and in the evening, he re-settles each time he unfolds his carpet on it… These movements and processes are expressed by the rhythm of walking, which imprints the landscape in the pilgrim and vice versa. The nomad and the philosopher (and the architect), like all people, keep inside the lands in which they grew up, wandered and dreamed of.”
Our projects are the result of such work; and our interpretations as authors stays mostly hidden giving space to every visitor for their own reading.
We have a wide range of projects, from art (memorials) to a non-traditional exhibition in the National Museum in Prague, underwater observatory in Norway and individual housing projects. We have just finished a significant project of Prague riverfront revitalisation.

Never thought I would end up here!
After backpacking in India and Nepal, I stopped over in Shanghai, China. I landed early on Christmas morning at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). Because I was there on a layover, my first order of business was to get a 72-hour permit. China offers a 72-hour Visa-Free Transit. It’s pretty strict, so if your layover is longer then 72 hours, consider the 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit. There is a special counter/lane for the 72 hour free transit at immigration, so I went directly there to get a temporary entry permit stamped on my passport.
[P.S.: When booking plane tickets, look for long layovers so you can check out other countries on the way to your destination!]
Things To Do In Shanghai
Once that was taken care of, I headed to the currency exchange (USD -> Yuan), then to the Metro/Maglev Train station in the airport (although you can take a bus, taxi, or long distance coach too). But the great thing about the metro/Maglev is that the station is connected to the airport. The main things to check out in Shanghai are (the highlights that I visited are in yellow):
The Yu Garden
The Bund
The Oriental Pearl Tower
Nanjing Road
Shanghai Disney Resort
My layover was 8 hours long, but subtract the time it takes for immigration & travel time, and given you have to be at the airport 2 hours before an international flight, I didn’t have long to explore (next time I will opt for a longer layover).
I chose to visit The Bund, which is a water front area in central Shanghai. It is a mile long walkway full of shops and modern buildings, opposite which you can see the Oriental Pearl Tower.
The Subway…
I talked to the help desk and learned the Line 2 subway/metro would take me to East
Nanjing Road in about an hour. The Bund is a 10 min walk from there, on a section of Zhongshan Road. The metro costs about $2-$3, but man is it an experience! (Good or bad? You decide). When I boarded, it was empty and calm, maybe 15 people max. The ride was smooth, but as soon as it reached its first stop, people flooded the compartment like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Every seat was instantly gone. This wasn’t as startling as what happened at the next stop. The first person in “line” (in the mob, I should say) to board was pushed so hard he slammed against the other end of the car. People flooded in like a tidal wave. Every stop more and more people got on and I couldn’t understand how they were able to fit. We were already packed like sardines. I wanted to take a picture, but I couldn’t move my hand up from my side – that’s how packed it was! I was definitely feeling packed and pressured, and it became harder to breathe. At one point, the subway doors wouldn’t close. I heard a girl crying…
As you can see, the subway is relatively empty at this time…
A little over half way through the journey, I reached Guanglan Road, where everybody exited and a few people got on;I could breathe again. I took a seat, but a couple exiting were telling me to get off. I was about to, but then I remembered I had to get off at East Nanjing Road, and we weren’t there yet, so I sat back down. Then the couple came back into the subway to tell me to get off. Through some language barriers, they kindly got the point across that this was the last stop and I had to switch subways. I’m so thankful for kind people who go out of their way to help travelers! If they hadn’t come back for me, I would have ended up back at the airport…
The ride was intense, to say the least. Can’t imagine doing that every day in transit to work! But all in all, it was a new and unique experience, and I got a story out of it, so it all worked out!
East Nanjing Road

Once I got off at East Nanjing Road, and fed my ticket to exit the terminal, the first thing I noticed was how clean the air was. Now, I can’t tell you how clean, but it felt crisp compared to India, which is where I was traveling from.
Notice the colored warmers on the men’s scooters. They keep their hands warm by putting them though the warmers/covers while driving.
Downtown Shanghai was cold, pristine, and empty, which made sense given it was 8 AM on Christmas morning. To combat the cold, the motorcyclists and people traveling on scooters had interesting covers/blankets to keep them warm. This website sells them and has a better image than I could capture.
I walked down East Nanjing Road, passing through the Hongyi shopping plaza, and towards Chenyi Square where I got a great view of The Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, and the Swatch Art Peace Hotel.
The Meglev Train
On the way back, I took the Shanghai Maglev Train, which is a magnetic levitation (i,.e. Mag. Lev.) train and can travel up to 267 mi/hr (439km/hr)! The economy class ticket cost $6. This train was not crowded at all! It was a quick 20 minutes back to the airport.
For Next Time…
Unless you really want to experience the crowds on the metro, I would take theMeglev to travel around. It saves a lot of time and is a lot more comfortable than the subway.
Also, if you want to check out more than one attraction, consider a layover longer than 12 hours…or simply travel to Shanghai as your main destination!
Resources
I found this site called Rome2Rio (it’s also an app) that condense maps, travel guides, transportation options, and accommodation all into one! (this is not a paid promotion, I just found this to be useful). I love how it shows you the Maglev, subway, bus, and taxi routes, the time it’ll take to travel those routes, and how much it’ll cost you; you can even pre-plan, view previous searches offline and save your trips. I just came across it and haven’t used it as yet, so if you have, leave me a comment below and tell me about your experience!
