2017 in Fic

I was tagged by the very talented @crookedspoonfic (who answered here)

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favourite works you created in 2017 (fics, art, edits, etc!) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2017. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original!) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.

1. Just Like That - Harry Potter - M/M, PWP - Drarry (Draco/Harry)

The pride in Draco's voice slides across Harry's skin like a caress and echoes in his bones.

Praise Kink. Also, there are just so many lines in here I love. Some of my best writing for 2017 even if it is pwp.

Also, bonus link to Up Close which is very similar and I love for all the same reasons.

2. Sex, Lies, and Space Stations - DC/Smallville - M/M - Clex aka Lex Luthor/Clark Kent (Superman).

Clark gets kidnapped, taken into a distant solar system and tied to Lex Luthor. Escape is just the start, and getting home might bring out more than either of them bargained for.

This was my @clexmasnews fic last year. It’s my only published Superman/Lex Luthor fic but I am neck deep in this fandom and this pairing of late (seriously, it’s a problem). It’s 15k of meandering picaresque and could have been 50k but would have missed the deadline. Not my best, but I love it anyway.

3. She drags my world awake - Crossover: Constantine/Supernatural - M/M - John Constantine/Dean Winchester + Various.

The Darkness Rises. Death pays John Constantine a visit. There's a break for pie, and then things get really complicated. Oh, and Slayers. Way too many Slayers.

Part 25 of Of Hunters and Hellblazers

20k of Hunters and Hellblazers is my largest fic so far. I feel like I’ve finally started writing my own take on these characters and building something with the places I want this ‘verse to go. But I also feel like even if I never pick it up again this would be a worthy place to leave my H&H ‘verse. I like how many fandoms I squeezed in and I had fun doing it.

Ps: This started pre- S11 and I’ve not seen S12 or 13 of SPN, but I’m finally catching up this week!

4. Showtime - Harry Potter - F/F/M and F/F - Hermione/Pansy and Hermione/Draco/Pansy

Hermione has been caught peeping on Pansy, so Pansy decides to call in Draco to help her deal some suitable punishment to her Gryffindor spy. Or at least, that's what it seems...

Warnings: BDSM, non/dub-con roleplay

This one was a gift for the HP 3some Fest - I must have missed the giftee’s desires and it’s not very popular with those who read it, but I really liked it. I love aftercare and would like to see more of it in fic -- write the content you want to see and all that.

5. Effigy in Desire - Harry Potter - M/M, solo/fantasy fic

Hugo Granger-Weasley has a problem. A very serious Potter problem, to be precise. His obsessive interest in his cousins can't be tamed, so this Christmas he's taking matters in hand.

Warnings: Fantasy/Implied Incest

This was my Daily Deviant: Kinky Kristmas Fic - it’s got warnings and characters I don’t normally read let alone write, but I’m still really proud of it. Mostly for the writing and the build up. Also the way I handled the ‘deviant’ little twist.

What I look for in a fan fic: has to

be Dean centric

have a snappy writing style/good punctuation (if I see something like “Come on Sam let’s go!”, or even “You have to eat Cas!” I am not going to read the story. Call me non-native-speaking punctuation nazi, I don’t care.)

See how I’m not asking for a lot? :DDD

So, here’s a few fics I’ve set my sight on. I have not read them yet, but they are the kind of stuff I’m going to give a try.

Adventures in Babysitting (Apple Pie Life) (53k) “Dean had promised Sam he’d try living an apple pie life, but he’d had no idea it would be so freaking perilous. Smart-ass kids, helicopter moms, asshole husbands, creepy dudes in the park, and more drama than a daytime soap-opera abound. Dean’s stuck wondering if he wouldn’t have been safer sticking to hunting.”

and it’s sequel Dean Winchester, Patron Saint (Apple Pie Life) (45k) “Dean Winchester, Patron Saint of Little Brothers, Lost Angels, and Smartass Kids. He thought figuring out suburban life was hard; try being Heaven’s Yoda for learning about humanity. On top of that there’s some freaky shit going down and Dean is so not looking forward to dealing with another potentially world ending supernatural meltdown of epic proportions.”

Of Hunters and Hellblazers (132k) “Dean Winchester has a helplessly frustrating thing for the Hellblazer. Can you blame him?” (I don’t even know who Hellblazer is, but the few paragraphs I skimmed seemed to have the kind of writing that appeals to me.)

Baby in the Corner (13k) “Dean has been taken apart and put back together so many times over the years that he is sure parts are missing. And the parts that are left don’t even work sometimes, and he doesn’t know what to do about it.”

Like I said, I haven’t actually read any of these, but I’m definitely giving them a try. No guarantees :D

(Oh, and I’m not at all against Dean in a M/M relationship in a fic if it’s done to my liking, lol. I just don’t want canon Dean/Cas.)

read the invocations by krystal sutherland as an arc i got from work and god i love when magic is just truly weird and terrifying and gross and has an awful cost. there are genuinely inhuman and frightening demons that latch on your soul like a parasite and slowly drain it in exchange for magic! demonic bargains gone wrong that rot a person from the inside out and decay the world around them! an orchard where the trees grow rotten fruit and ground weeps blood because unavenged murder victims are buried there! the terrifying sense that the characters are tampering with forces beyond their control or understanding!

#it had very strong hellblazer vibes #something about the way the characters are trying to do magic but don't necessarily know what they're doing #and make things worse as a result kind of reminded me of that #also having read both of krystal sutherland's urban fantasy/folk horror books #i have GOT to ask: ma'am what is your fascinated with people getting their skin stolen???#anyway this book comes out at the end of the month and i def recommend it anyone who likes demons and witches should pick it up #the invocations #krystal sutherland #books #pie says stuff #pie reads
