So to all the Ted Lasso sexy babies panicking over what to do with their lives after next week, I am begging you, watch Brassic. There's 4 seasons out, another 2 on the way, and it is ridiculously, absurdly good.

Not other rude anon. Sorry I was rude & flippant earlier. If this delivery is less annoying: It hurts & feels unkind to other BAFTA nominees (all but 1 poc) all gifted & good) that so many of these messages are about how marginalised a famous white guy in a bad series is. I know he’s beloved. But the other people up for this are truly good. & anyone rightly pissed off because I was rude earlier: please watch Dreaming Whilst Black or Juice or Brassic or Black Ops before doing this
Ok no worries - happens to all of us when talking on the internet. I’ve been asking this whole time if the other shows in that category are good (not because I doubt but because they just didn’t break through here in the states and they’re not easy to stream without taking extra steps here) and you’re the first person who’s said they’ve watched and liked the others! That’s great.
We’re just having fun and I promise I’m always being tongue in cheek when it comes to talking about the incredibly rich famous successful white British actor being oppressed. I’m excited to watch the other shows and will cheer when one of them wins but you can’t be mad at people rooting for good omens on the good omens blog.

Fanfic asks… 3 and 6 please 😊
3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?
Oh, I’m the worst in regards to this as I tend to fall into just one fandom at a time and I don’t watch very much TV or many films. Other than what I see on tumblr, I probably couldn’t tell you about anything going on in any shows right now (not even the one I write for – which I’m still two seasons behind on). There’s a small handful of couples I really enjoy, but only the one that makes me want to write fanfiction at this moment.
I would, however, like to go back and finish a long fic I’d been working on for the Charity/Vanessa (Emmerdale) fandom. I think we’re all resigned to the notion that couple will never be returned to us, but my story versions of them deserve the happy ending they were robbed of in canon. And I hate leaving anything unfinished.
If I had to wager a guess on what might draw my attention, it’d probably be the show Brassic because I really am rooting for Vinnie and Erin to get together even though they’re both totally agreed it would be awful. And it probably would be. But oh, that singular moment of happiness? That shit would make me soft. Maybe I’ll write a spec script for that show and toss it in my portfolio or something.
6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list?
I talked about it briefly in an answer to another question from this list. But maybe getting a few hundred words in several times in the last six months counts as starting it?
In which case, I want to explore more couple-centric and canon-compliant ideas in the coming year. I’ve spent so much of the last year deeply invested in my own created universe for these characters (which, honestly, I’ve needed with the stress of school), and it’s allowed me to keep from truly getting involved with the genuine storylines of the show. But it’s also kept me from reading a lot of other people’s work. I want to dive back into fandom present and explore who these characters are on screen right now. Besides, I’m sure everyone will eventually get tired of Andrea and Beatrice, even though I could probably write their stories for the rest of my life.

BEST TV OF 2022 PART 4
Final part
I did watch some really good foreign language dramas this year – KaDaWe (about a group of friends in 1920s Berlin), Senorita 89 (about a group of Mexican beauty queens involved in a murder) and The Longest Night (Spanish drama about a prison siege which I hope they do another season of).
There was also the Australian drama about a news channel in the 1980s called The Newsreader and the return of some of my favourite American dramas such as The Blacklist, Gossip Girl, Euphoria, and The Handmaid’s Tale.
I was pleased to see the return of The Great (about Catherine the Great) + I thought the 2nd series was even better than the 1st. Plus All Creatures Great + Small which is comfort TV at its finest. A couple of new shows which I really loved were The English (a Western w/Emily Blunt) + SAS Rogue Heroes (set during WW2 and starring Jack O’ Connell among others).
I loved the adaptations of Everything I Know About Love, This is Going to Hurt and Heartstopper but I was less keen of Life After Life (altho’ I did enjoy the Joe Black cameo).
Gentleman Jack, Peaky Blinders, The Split and Killing Eve all returned for their final series. Plus, I was glad to see Industry got another series (I do hope it continues).
For shows that seamlessly blend comedy and emotional drama, there was the return of Brassic, I Hate Suzie, The Outlaws, and Ackley Bridge.
New shows included Marriage (w/Sean Bean + Nicola Walker showing the mundane crises of a long term relationship), Chivalry (again, I really liked it tho’ it got slagged off a fair bit), Somewhere Boy (about a boy whose father has kept him isolated and how he deals with suddenly being thrust into the wider world), Skint (a series of monologues about people’s experiences of poverty), Cheaters (great show w/the excellent Susan Wokona in bite-size episodes), Then Barbara Met Alan (the true life story of a couple of disability activists) and my personal favourite, Mood (about an aspiring musician who ends up doing sex work after being drawn into the toxic influencer world).

Ted Lasso is good at portraying male intimacy but it would be better if there was platonic spooning à la Vinnie and Tommo in Brassic.

The new trailer for Ted Lasso season 3 and all the speculation that goes with it about who may or may not end up coming out (or just being queer) has me going kind of crazy. I’ve been on this hell-site for so many years on and off, I’ve seen all the queer baiting, all the desperate hoping and tricking yourself into the belief that this little thing might be a sign. I hyper-fixate on shows, especially on the queer-coded characters, and I long for good queer representation. I’ve been through all of this longing and hoping before, and I’m just getting so sick of it.
Whenever I talk to a het person about Ted Lasso and its lack of any queer characters, they either say “there’s not any yet, there’s another season still to come,” or “one of them might be gay, you don’t know.” Neither of these things are good enough. Neither sentiment makes me think “Yeah, that’ll probably be good enough.” For one thing, we’re two seasons in. If you’re two seasons into a show that is clearly conscious of some forms of diversity, but can’t manage to acknowledge the existence of queerness beyond a slur that was used in the first two minutes, and the occasional joke (usually used to make a female character seem more sexy/intriguing), then can there really be much hope for real, honest queer representation and storytelling in the third and final season?
Will they really get round to the very important question of how homophobia fits into the the toxic masculinity locker room culture that Ted first walked into, and how that affected and continues to affect the mental health of those within it? Will they really tell this (or any) story from the point of view of a queer person, and with the care and nuance it deserves? They’ve had poc characters from the start, but even their storytelling of these characters has been controversial and from many people’s perspectives, problematic.
I know the history of queer television, I know why queer coding became a powerful way of telling only the people in the know “hey, I see you”. But we’ve moved beyond that, and in a TV show like Ted Lasso, where it so clearly aims to  tell a diverse range of stories, from an accepting and curious point of view, the lack of actual, truely represented, honest queerness is jarring. I’m sick of being presented with crumbs, with jokes that anyone who’s not queer wouldn’t even notice, and being treated like it’s a gift.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Ted Lasso, I love all my Richmond himbos and my darling Keeley. I’ll watch season 3 and I’ll obsess. I’ll keep all my little headcanons. But I just can’t stand all this trying to trick myself into believing we’ll actually get a queer storyline, especially not for a main character. I’ve been there before and it hurts. We deserve better. So I’m including a little list, for the darlings who have actually read this whole post, of my current fav shows with actual queer characters and stories, so that while we deal with all this Ted Lasso anxiety, we can also have some comfort LGBTQIA+ tv too. Please add your favourites too.
Brassic:
I have to put this first even though it’s not necessarily the gayest, because I think anyone and everyone who watches Ted Lasso should watch Brassic. Joe Gilgun co-created the show and stars as the main character Vinnie, and while his diagnosis has changed since the show’s beginning (he’s now discovered he has bpd, not bipolar) the show’s depiction of Vinnie as man living with bipolar disorder is phenomenal. As is the way it introduces and tells the stories of its queer characters; most notably Ash, a gay man from a traditional Irish traveller family, who has my heart (but actually there are very few main characters who I'm convinced are really, totally straight).
There's a moment in the show when Vinnie encounters some ‘casual’ homophobia, and even though he’s not with anyone queer, even though he doesn’t know the person who said it, and he’s got shit he really has to get on with, he has to call it out. It’s a little moment, in a show with a lot more very gay scenes and storylines, but it’s the kind of thing that just feels so important. Brassic is chaotic and crude and probably too much for a lot of people, but it’s loving too.
9-1-1: Lone Star:
This one might not be the same high quality television as the others; it’s a first responder drama that tends towards the soapy, but god, I love it. I love the way they write their queer characters, I love the way they write the friendships between them, and the ways that most of the characters are some kind of minority and use their shared experiences of being marginalised and discriminated against to support and be there for each other.
It's also worth noting that Brian Michael Smith, who plays Paul, a trans man, is the first black trans man to be a series regular on American tv, and that queer actors Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva, who play lovers on the show, were recently on the cover of Out magazine, and are both activists in the queer community.
Sense8:
It’s so wonderfully, beautifully queer. It’s a scifi, made by the Wachowski sisters, that’s a kind of love letter to the LGBT+ community. I don't think any of the main characters are meant to be straight, it’s all so very, very queer. Please do watch it, just, not with your mum you know.
Our Flag Means Death:
Gay pirates. Non-binary pirates. New Zealand accents on characters that are definitely not meant to be from New Zealand. What more could you want?
Vico Ortiz, who is non-binary, apparently cried when they read the script because the writers (three of whom are also non-binary) had taken such care to create space for the non-binary character, Jim. You can honestly feel that care when watching the show.
The Last of Us:
I’m sorry. I’m not a gamer and don’t know anything about the game, but every time I yell at my gamer friend who made me watch the show for making me watch it, they just laugh knowingly and say it's only getting worse. So I’m sorry, but yeah, you should still watch it.

I've seen in a couple places that some parts of Brassic have different music on Hulu bc of rights issues. I can't watch it on Sky so it's bothering me that I'm not seeing it how Joe wanted. Would you or anyone else happen to know which scenes have been changed?
I thought maybe my brain was making things up with the different musical cues! I guess not.
So the ones that jump out at me are that in S1 E6, the final musical sting after Vinnie receives the call at the very end sounds like "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles and in S2 E6, when everyone asks Vin if he'll miss his rabbit and he does his little reminiscence, the music sounds like "Close to You" by the Carpenters. In the Hulu version the music is like... legally dissimilar.
And HINT HINT the versions HERE are the original UK ones...
And if anyone knows anything else, please feel free to mention!

i started watching brassic because it looked like a show where i’d have a good laugh, and yeah i laughed out loud constantly, but i was not expecting to get so emotionally invested in a bunch of dumbass thieves who grow and sell weed and find a heartbreaking ship in vinnie/erin and i would also die for little tyler and the fact that this show also has mental illness and lgbtq representation 👏👏👏👏👏 i have honestly watched both seasons from start to finish like 5 times now already and i cannot wait for season 3!!!!!
please watch brassic if you haven’t already!!!

ABC News Announces New Roles Within ABC News Live, ABC Audio and ABC News Long Form
ABC News Live Senior Executive Producer Justin Dial announced David Hatcher as Executive Producer for live morning programming; ABC Audio Vice President and General Manager Stacia Philips Deshishku announced Eric Johnson as Director and Executive Producer of Podcast Programming; and ABC News Long Form Senior Vice President Beth Hoppe announced Mike Kelley as Vice President, Platforms. See their notes to staff below:
David Hatcher
Team,
I’m excited to share with you that David Hatcher starts with ABC News Live today as Executive Producer and will be responsible for building out and overseeing our morning news programming block, including breaking news, weekdays from 6am-12pm ET.
This role is a return for David to the Disney/ABC family. He began his New York journalism career at WABC, where he produced Eyewitness News This Morning from 5:30am to 7:00 am Monday to Friday in the mid-90s.
David joins us from BuzzFeed. He spent the last year as Executive Producer of their morning news show AM2DM on Twitter. He is a creative visionary who understands the morning audience’s news consumption across all age groups, demographics and platforms.
With over 30 years of experience in television news and entertainment, David held leadership roles at WCBS and WNBC during coverage of some of the nation’s biggest breaking news stories including 9/11, the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook, Superstorm Sandy – for which his work helped win local and national Emmy awards and a Murrow award - and the terrorist bombing attacks in New Jersey and in Manhattan in 2016. While Assistant News Director at WBZ in Boston, David was part of the team that took the station’s 11pm show to number 1 for the first time in 15 years.
David has an unequivocal passion for storytelling and a distinct eye for streaming news programming, which will be a huge advantage as we grow. I’m excited to see what he and the team he builds will create in the coming months.
Please join me in welcoming David to ABC News Live.
Justin
Eric Johnson
Team,
I am excited to announce that Eric Johnson will join ABC Audio as the new Director and Executive Producer of Podcast Programming beginning mid-March.
Eric is an award-winning producer with a knack for storytelling who’s touched nearly every part of ABC News over his 13 year career here. His strong relationships throughout the news division, coupled with his impressive experience in long form and news programming, will make him a great asset to our flourishing podcast division. In his new role Eric will build on the success of our existing podcasts and help design a fresh powerhouse podcast network. He will strategically gather and organize podcast ideas and harness the talent, resources and storytelling ability available across ABC News and Walt Disney Television.
Most recently Eric served as Senior Broadcast Producer at Good Morning America, where he was a vital part of the first hour leadership team. Since Eric joined ABC News he’s traveled the globe – from the Amazon jungle, to the slums of Caracas and the refugee camps in Jordan – to tell some of the most important, adventurous and enterprising stories of our time working with 20/20, ABC News Digital, GMA and Nightline. He won a duPont Award as co-producer of Diane Sawyer’s critically acclaimed interview with Caitlyn Jenner and multiple Emmy Awards for projects including his role as senior producer of ABC News’ Town Hall “The President and the People: Race in America.” Eric’s work also extends outside ABC’s walls. He co-produced the PBS documentary “Return to the Wild” and was senior producer for “Shining a Light: Conversations on Race in America,” produced in conjunction with A&E Networks.
Each day I see how hard our incredibly talented podcast teams work as they build our growing podcast roster. Over the years we’ve had great success creating award-winning, smart programming, including The Dropout, Start Here, Ten Percent Happier, Truth and Lies: Jeffrey Epstein, Have You Seen This Man? and much more. Eric will help us continue to expand and evolve as we forge into the future. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Please join me in congratulating Eric and welcoming him to the ABC Audio family.
Stacia
Mike Kelley
Team,
I am pleased to announce today that Mike Kelley is joining us in ABC News Long Form as Vice President, Platforms. Reporting to me and working closely with Roxanna Sherwood, Mike will be responsible for the business strategy of our long form documentaries and docu-series that we will distribute to partners in the Disney television and streaming ecosystem.
Mike joins us from ITV Studios Global Distribution, where he was Senior Vice President of Sales, Americas. He led the team responsible for the sale of ITV content produced outside of the United States to buyers in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Mike was also responsible for partnering with broadcasters, cable channels and streaming on-demand platforms to co-produce or acquire scripted and factual series and specials including World on Fire, Gold Digger, Brassic and The War of the Worlds.
Prior to ITV Mike spent a decade at PBS, where he held executive level positions in programming, business affairs and content operations. He led the development and execution of a content strategy that produced multiple consecutive years of growth in ratings and on digital platforms, taking PBS from the 12th most watched network in America to the 5th. He also led the Business Affairs team that was responsible for negotiating all content deals across prime time and kids programming. During Mike’s tenure PBS launched new series and specials including The Great British Baking Show, Mercy Street, Finding Your Roots with Skip Gates, We’ll Meet Again with Ann Curry, No Passport Required and Call the Midwife.
Mike is a multi-talented media executive with an impeccable track record, and I’m excited to have him bolster the Long Form group’s business and content distribution strategy.
Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Mike.

I re-read “A Year in the Life of Sarge’s Person” last week and .... I’m kinds thinking I want to re-read again. I’m sure there are other fics with Bucky getting his life and mental health back to being his ... I just can’t seem to invest in anything new.
Linking it here in case you also need 189k words of Bucky doing the work to get ownership of his life back and learning to take care of himself (and Sarge and Steve).

Author’s note 11/7/2021: This work is complete!!
Hermione thought her biggest issues this year would be being stuck in a dead-end job and not quite getting along with her new officemate, Draco Malfoy. However, the Ministry is about turn her tidy and contained life upside down with the announcement of the new Marriage and Family Law, and there's more trouble brewing as outbursts of uncontrolled magic begin to wreck havoc in the office.
Draco has been reassigned to Corporate Services after an Auror mission went spectacularly sideways; at least, that's what he's telling everyone. The truth is hardly as straightforward and Granger has him increasingly on edge, so naturally, he was only too pleased to learn of the new Law that was going to out him as a Creature to the woman he loves.
