Can I recommend of two natures by VanillaBroompolish (restricted)? It’s Steve-centered and deals with him coping with his trauma and developing dissociative identity disorder with “Cap” as his other identity who handles all the Avengers work. It made me ache for Steve and provides a lot of great characterization. There’s a lot of subtle beauty in how it’s written with plenty of self-deprecating humor from Steve that helps balance it all.

Help, I kinda lost a podfic 🙈 at least I think it was one. I have some shady memory of the summary going like this: Bucky Barnes and the winter soldier work together to save Steve Rogers. It was a split personality thing going on between Bucky and the WS. And they cooperate to help Steve... But I can't find it anywhere :( has anyone any idea?

Hi!! I found this amazing Stucky fic, but I can't seem to find it! Bucky had multiple personality disorder, and he switched from being Bucky to James. Steve falls in love with James and I believe Vision helps seperate the two into two different people, with different bodies. I absolutely loved this fic and am quite distressed that I cannot find it. Any help you could give would be great! Thank you for running such a great blog! ☺

I read this fic yesterday and I'm still tearing up because it was so good: the serie Ipseity by SkyisGray. The story is about Bucky and the torture he endured after the fall and the creation of 3 other personalities who helps him cope. It's so good and powerful and nerve-wrecking, basically one of the best fic I've ever read!!

Hey so I'm looking for a fic where Bucky has DID but it's so severe there is actually a seperate identity inside him instead of just the different 'parts' of his mind sharing one body. There's "Bucky" and there's "James". They live with Steve in Stark Tower for the main part of the fic (Spoiler alert) I don't fully recall but I think eventually James is extracted from Bucky and Tony puts him in a seperate body, also they might end up poly? I'm not sure though. Hope someone can help me out :)

To the anon who asked about the fic where Bucky has dissociative identity disorder and then splits into different personalities, I think you might be thinking of the epic Lauralot's Alexander Pierce Should Have Died Slower series. Do you know of "Ticking" by MrLoser? It isn't finished but it takes a really unique look at Steve and Bucky's relationship and how Bucky's past abuse effects his ability to stay faithful .

So I see a lot of fics with DID!Bucky/Winter Soldier, but I've only ever found one fic with DID!Steve/Captain America. If you know of any DID!Steve fics (including the one I'm talking about reading, I can't find it), could you post them?

If I’m not mistaken, Ain’t No Grave (Can Keep my Body Down) has some of this. Here are some others!

Steve pulls his missing, presumed dead best friend into his circle of super heroes and starts working to undo the physical and mental damage Hydra has done.  

It’s not easy, and it’s not pleasant.  But it would probably be a lot more effective if Bucky weren’t keeping secrets, and if he could figure out how to interpret Bucky’s mood swings.

It’s Where My Demons Hide

It has been four years since Bucky escaped from Hydra, with help from the Winter Soldier, and found Steve’s frozen body. Now SHIELD needs their help with an extraterrestrial threat. So they have to put their mission on hold while dealing with a snarky inventor, a volatile scientist, a pair of spies, a literal god, and a whole alien army lead by a psychopath.

In other words, this is a retelling of The Avengers, with Bucky/The Winter Soldier along for the ride.

Like a Cruel Mistress Woos (WIP)

Steve has struggled with the modern world since he woke up, and mostly he and it have called it a draw.  When the Winter Soldier comes in from the cold, asking for help in recovering his identity as James Buchanan Barnes, Steve is thrilled.  Finally, he’s going to have a friend and ally who understands what it’s like.  He’s getting Bucky back, and he couldn’t be happier.

But six months later, James is well enough to be living in Avenger Tower, making moves on Natasha Romanov, occasionally fighting the forces of evil alongside the Avengers, and adapting to modern life like he was born in 1987 instead of 1917.

And he wants nothing to do with Steve.

Maybe it’s time to figure out what Steve wants if he doesn’t have Bucky.  What he can live with. What’s not worth living without.

Featuring a confused and questioning Steve Rogers, a Tony Stark with a daddy complex, a Bucky Barnes whose mouth needs to be washed out with soap, a Natasha Romanov who likes her cars fast and her boys bad, and a handful of OMCs with designs on Steve.  But I promise you’ll come to love them just as much as Steve does.  Most of them.

It’s six in the morning, and Steve is heading out on a run when he nearly trips over a bouquet of sunflowers on the front steps of his brownstone.

For a second paranoia takes over, and he kicks the flowers a little, waiting for them to explode. They don’t. They also came with a card, which he picks up. The front of the card has a tasteful picture of the Brooklyn bridge at sunset. It’s very nice and sedate, like the kind of card you would buy to give to your boss. On the inside someone has written a short message in big, shaky block letters.

I AM SORRY FOR SHOOTING YOU.
