I don't even usually like canon, already established ships much, even if they're sapphic. I mean I wouldn't hate them, I'm always happy for more rep! But I dont usually fixate over them. There truly is something more to be desired when it comes to non-canon side ships. So I honestly wouldn't have minded if Chaggie weren't the most popular. But to see so much hate over it is the frustrating part. They coulda just ignored the ship. Why is there any need to be so vocal about their hatred of it?

Personally I'm puzzled how people could hate them so much for being wholesome. That's their best charm to me specifically because of the kind of show they star in. Such a pure love between an angel and demon who both reside in Hell of all places is both ironically funny and utterly romantic to me.

Anyone ever think about how some people probably miss Shen Jiu in Svvss.

How some Bai Zhan dissolves probably attacked because they were jealous of the Qing Jing disciples who had a teacher for all his sharp tongue and non existent tact was actually there. Where for all his harsh punishments and glares never beat you into the ground in the name of training.

How some of the older Qing Jing peak disciples liked the old one better than the new one without memories because he understood and while he was not nice he was kind in his own weird way.

How some Qiong Ding disciples liked him better when he had his memories because there was a peak lord with eyes like theirs. Someone so unequivocally looks like a wolf and a snake so unafriad to hide how hungry he is for more. But still so loyal.

How someone of the older Xian Shu girls mourned the man who treated them as the hidden blades they were. Who looked at them with a weary sort of respect and never once thought of them as belongings or things to be owned.

How some of the older hall masters and sect cultivators miss the sharp tongue and un forgiving wit of their former martial nephew and shidi. Who for all he never asked for help was never rude when it was offered for all the used to bristle at the implications of him needing help. He never lied to spare their feelings.

How a few peak lords miss their sharped tongued shixiong. He didn’t look down on them for being in the lower peaks. They miss the way their verbal spars would go and even if they rarely won the challenge was fun. As no one wants to challenge the beat of the best and that’s what the peak lords were.

How they all collectively feel like Shen Jiu losing his memory was a slap in the face to the man. Because all through the body of the same, the sharp mind is the same, they aren’t the same. No more sharp eyes or poisonous tongue instead there’s something soft. Something that if pushed slightly would die kneeling and not with a broken or straight back.

They all know that this wasn’t the ending that he would have wanted or even deserved.

As know instead of dying and being known as Shen Qingqiu the master tactician and the Xiu Ya sword he is known as Shen Qingqiu the Qing Jing peak lord, empress of the demon realm, husband of Luo Binghe.

Actually you know what I need to rant about this: while literati is technically a good girl x bad boy dynamic it is written so incredibly well and avoids so many pitfalls and stereotypes that it makes a good girl x bad boy hater like myself (I’m only half joking — I don’t think any trope is inherently good or bad but I tend to dislike most pairings with this dynamic) fall head over heels for their story and relationship.

So much of what makes the two of them work is the contrast between how others perceive them and how they truly are. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people who understand who Rory is as a person (Lorelai, Lane, Paris, Richard and Emily to a certain degree for starters), but she's constantly met with the expectation that she just does good and is supposed to make everyone proud 24/7. Stars Hollow as a group especially are big on this, as seen f. ex. through how Taylor takes Rory's one comment about an inappropriate DVD and twists the whole thing into a censorship crusade and makes Rory its poster-child even though she wants nothing to do with it and tells him so repeatedly. But instead of hearing Rory disagree with him (like he would Lorelai and Luke) he assumes that she actually agrees with him - and why shouldn't she when she's the perfect sunshine paragon of good who would never disagree with her elders? Also her grandparents treat her as incredibly fragile and childlike, like she must be too innocent to ever do anything wrong and so whenever she does something it has to be somebody else's fault (usually Lorelai, but occasionally Jess or whoever else was present). Time and time again Rory is treated like something innocent and naive and weak — but not by Jess. He sees her as a person.

And it obviously goes the other way too. Jess is treated like shit by pretty much everyone else. Either people hate him unprovoked or very much provoked (he did do a lot of pranks in his first few weeks and while I'm a Dean-hater I'm not blind to how much Jess picked fights with him), or they’ve simply given up on him. He tells Rory himself that every authority figure he had back in New York gave up on him too, from teachers to principals to his very own mother. But Rory doesn’t treat him like a lost cause, she treats him like the smart, brilliant and asshole-ish teen that he is. By having faith in him she also often holds him more accountable than others. Where f. ex. Lorelai or the other adults just roll their eyes, Rory physically drags Jess into doing his shifts at the diner. While others write him off, Rory chews Jess’ ear out for not helping Luke more and for willfully making enemies out of the Stars Hollow adults.

They don't put each other on pedestals or below each other. Jess doesn’t try to make a sinner out of Rory and she doesn’t try to make a saint out of him. There’s genuine respect between them. They expect each other to have integrity and treat others with kindness and honesty, and the rest is good old chemistry and common interests.

I particularly love how in so many of their scenes (especially pre-relationship) when they spend time alone they just get to be these goofy nerdy kids. They argue about controversial authors and dig through records shops and eat hot dogs and make fun of each other and try to make each other laugh. It’s not just sexual chemistry as it too often is in a dynamic like this (and often uncomfortably sexual when writing teenagers - looking at you Gossip Girl), and not just well written intellectual chemistry — they have platonic chemistry too. A hell of a lot of it actually.

While I don’t think ASP wrote them through a purely deconstructionist lens on the good girl x bad boy dynamic (if she did plan on writing the dynamic at all), there is something to be said about how where many around them treat them like stereotypes they treat each other like people. To so many people, Rory is a perfect small town princess, a little miss sunshine with booksmarts for days but too delicate and sweet for anything with grit and weight. To a lot of the same people and many more Jess is a pathetic brutish and maniacal lost cause, hell personified in a chainsmoking leather-wearing teenager. But to each other they are actual human beings. Kind and mean and flirtatious and scared and reckless and smart. Rory really thinks that with the right motivation and mindset Jess can be the kind who does (and at the end wrote) incredible things. Jess really believes that with a little more practice and support to step out of her comfort zone she can be the amazing journalist she wishes to be.

They don’t have this stupid «we’re so bad for each other but we can’t stay away» thing that too many trope users rely on and don’t even justify in the plot. Everyone else might think they’re not fit for each other, but they knew they were each other’s person from the very first day.

Take this with a grain of salt but I don’t think Izutsumi necessarily MUST be be viewed as canonically aroace. I do not have a problem with that reading at all, to be clear, but I’ve been mulling this over for a while and with how much self-loathing and neglect informs her character it just doesn’t seem to entirely fair in insist on taking the “I don’t have a type” line at face value.

She’s a traumatized 17-year-old girl who thinks she’s unlovable and has never had the freedom to chose what to do with her life. Of course she doesn’t have a type and longs for a mom to love her unconditionally.

I often see people saying there should be more fat character acceptance and appreciation but also so commonly see some of those same people only expressing that by drawing characters that aren't fat as fat but then not giving any of the actual official fat characters such as Eggman and Big any love at all in comparison. sad :(

like they've been very commonly hated, clowned on, or overlooked for being fat so maybe embracing and appreciating them for being official fat characters is a start if you wanna spread that message Idk. they're perfect examples that fat characters can be cool, lovable, strong, full fledged characters and not just punchlines and more

I know it's not everyone but sometimes I feel like the sentiment only applies to characters they find attractive/aesthetically appealing whatever for some, which kinda goes against the messaging, since you have such specific terms for it to be something you're interested in depicting. like only when you think they're cool/attractive enough

My personal ick is when people take wlw scenes/songs and make them mlm or mlw... because brutha eugh? We already barely have shit why u gotta take OUR shit and make it all abt u. Idk... am I being a lil slow? I saw a h*skerdust ver of the more than anything reprise and kinda cringed. It was basically just a male version of the song n they jst put the ship as the cover art and yknow idk if thats what kinda urked me or if i jst hate h*skerfuck even more lately. Like... Idc if u make a cover of a wlw song unless u make it wlm. But it kinda disgusts me when someone makes it mlm too?? Like idk if that's jst me upset that chaggie isn't super popular (which is completely the shows fault and the fact ppl just always favor mlm 😭). But imma leave it at that I'm usually the type to wait for someone else's opinion so I can make my own.

When u make a mlw characters into wlw or mlm it's aight cuz they literally have the majority of the entire internet what's it gonna do? Hurt your representation? Yap yap. But it's equally messed up to me to make any lesbian media gay and uplifting that. Genderbending doesn't count, I love gender bending, but making that and putting it above the original wlw media is straight up lesbophobia I don't care.

No. I think THATS my problem actually. It's when you make any wlw media into mlm or wlm and UPLIFTING that higher than the original. THATS my problem. Not the change itself, but the putting it on a higher shelf than the smaller amount of wlw rep and saying it's "better". Because that itself is messed up asf.

It's kinda of similar to the whole carmillo carmine thing. Because they genderbent carmilla and said that he was BETTER THAN HER??
