I like how Noa was ready to drop Nova off with “her kind,” but the minute she was in danger he came back for her. He didn’t know she can speak but immediately came to her rescue when she called his name. He was mad Mae didn’t trust him and said that she was safe with him, and then immediately gives her the blue cloth back so gently. Like how are we not supposed to be falling in love with this ape?? Mae I know you confused girl 😭 imagine her heart was beating fast…bye

something I find incredibly funny is that in the current Planet of the Apes movies, the only time apes are villains is when it’s bonobos (Koba, Proximus)
for those who don’t know much about apes in the wild, Bonobos are one of the (if not THE) most docile ape. They are incredibly intelligent and, for a lack of a better word, absolute hippies. they have never been recorded to have ever committed a murder, unlike chimps, who are ironically a very agressive and violent species. They go out of their way to end fights, and make sure to share food. The hierarchy is Female, with families being lead by a matriarch.
Bonobos hate fighting, and become incredibly stressed at the idea of doing so. So instead they fuck. No, seriously. Stress release? Fuck. Want to share some food? Gotta fuck first. Happy? Fucking. Sad? Fucking. If it’s an emotion, it results in getting hot and steamy. Male on male, female on female, male on female, they don’t care. It’s like shaking hands for them.
the writers are accidentally using the Jaws Effect (the jaws effect is where a movie/show/book takes an animal that is rarely, if ever, dangerous, and uses it to be the main antagonist, therefore creating a false narrative that this type of animal is a common aggressor and there’s a high chance humans can be harmed by it. The Jaws movie turned Great Whites into villains, when they’re actually fairly calm creatures, and the movie sparked a massive manhunt for Great Whites. Granted people aren’t out there with guns taking on Bonobos, but I do find it ironic that the one species of ape to be featured in the reboot that was branded “dangerous” is the one that would probably protect humans most in a fight

They Meet At the River's Edge
Author's Note: Hey guys! We are now officially a week away from the release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Ape!!! Here's a special treat: a fanfic one shot featuring Mae and Noa, inspired by Disney's Pocahontas. Edit: Great news, guys. It is now available on Wattpad! I put a link in the description box!
Noa pulled in the reins of his horse, his grip tightening along the leather.  He sniffed the air slightly, scenting it for anything out of the ordinary or for any other predators.  His mount was getting agitated and he couldn’t understand why.  The colt shook its head side to side, Noa could feel the back muscles tense from under his legs.  The young chimp leaned forward to pet the horse’s neck, trying to calm the creature down.
He surveyed the area again, sniffing the air once more for the possible threat.  There, he picked up on the scent, it was a human.
What was a human doing all the way out here?  He wondered to himself while taking notice of the surrounding woods by the river.  There were tall weeds and large rocks dotting along the bank.  He was way ahead downstream, about five feet from where this potential threat might be.  He exhaled through his nostrils, his decision was made.
The young chimp pulled on the reins again, turning his steed around to the trees surrounding the river.  He spotted a small patch of shrubs lining the riverside, and led his horse to it.
Noa had pressed himself against the steed’s back, silently hoping he was blending in with the environment.  He exhaled through his nostrils again, trying to slow down his beating heart.  There!  In the reeds, there was movement!  He felt his hackles stand along the length of his back, and reached for the spear that was fastened to his satchel, ready to confront the potential threat in the water.  The young ape motioned his mount forward in the direction of the reeds, his spear ready to throw.
But he did not.
Emerging from the reeds was a female human.
He slowly lowered the spear when the human crawled out of the shallow water, and stood up at full height.  The female wore ragged clothes, but they were strange attire compared to the other feral humans.  The top covered the torso, only baring her shoulders and the bottoms were long to the ankle.  She was very pale in complexion, with dirt and mud covering her arms and face.  There was a scar on her left shoulder.  Her hair was long and covered with mud from the river.  Her eyes were the color of the sky, and she was staring at his own golden jade colored eyes.
There was only the sound of the leaves rustling in the trees.  And the sound of his breath exhaling through his lips.  He couldn’t help but notice the way the female was looking at him.
Like they were equals.
All of the sudden, she took off in a run, climbing out of the water and into the surrounding forest.  Noa let out a surprised gasp, and steered his horse in the direction that the human ran off.
Mae ran as fast as her legs could take her.  Her bare feet burned from the cuts she gained from the sticks and thorns all along the ground.  Her lungs felt like they were on fire.  She ran and ran until she came upon a clearing deep in the woods.  She heard the hooves of the horse behind her come to a halt.
She glanced around for a chance to hide and escape.  There was nothing in the clearing other than the tall grass and wildflowers.
“Wait,” a voice called out to her.  The young woman turned around slowly, it was the ape from the river.  He climbed down from his horse, the spear still in hand.  Her gaze met with his briefly before turning it to the weapon in his hand.  The ape took notice of this, and tossed the spear away from them.  The male presented his palms to her, indicating that he was not a threat.
“It is…all right,” the male spoke as softly as he could.  The young ape took a step closer to the human female, “I…want to…help you.”
Mae stared at the young chimp’s hands, so human like but different. She looked around for a way to escape should she need to.
Noa knew that feral humans could not speak, but from the way her eyes looked at him, he could tell there was an intelligent creature within.
The wind rustled the leaves in the trees and the fur on Noa’s shoulders, and the female’s disheveled hair.  The young ape slowly reached out his hand to her.  The female’s blue eyes glanced down at the outstretched hand.  She slowly stretched out her own hand and placed it in the young chimpanzee’s.
He closed his fingers gently around hers as best as he could, he knew apes were much stronger ithan humans.  And he didn’t want to hurt her, truly.
Noa pulled her closer to him until he could practically feel the fur on his chest brushing against her shirt. He felt a small smile form on his lips. The female's eyes drifted toward his mouth and back up again. She returned that same smile.
Like an echo.
Yes, that will be her name, Noa decided.

My take on Noa x Mae
If you have watched the new planet of the apes movie, kingdom of the planet of the apes, you'll understand that the two main characters have a underlying tension between them. You'll understand that their relationship is complicated and still hasn't been completely developed. But you should also understand that we're talking about an animal and a human here.
Noa and Mae have a complicated relationship in the movie, but they just met. Noa has spent his entire life being told that humans are dangerous pests. But he is still able to find kindness and mercy to help and even somewhat befriend Mae. At the end of the movie you can tell that Noa doesn't know how to feel about Mae, he's still processing everything that had happened. Same as Mae, she doesn't understand if she hates apes or not. The tension you're seeing and feeling even is two different species struggling to learn to trust each other. It is NOT romantic nor sexual tension.
Some may argue that even if the tension they have isn't romantic or sexual that the shipping is harmless. It is not. Noa is an ape. He is an animal. Mae is a human. That is zoophilia. Noa is smart enough to understand that someone might want a relationship, and he is able to verbally consent, but he is still an animal. And if we're talking about anything sexual I'm pretty sure that Mae and Noa are teenagers, if not they're young adults.
I know that the ship is fictional, but would most of you not freak out if you saw someone shipping an adult man with a little girl? This is just as bad. Even though these characters are not real, it still doesn't excuse the fact that you think it's okay to ship a human and a animal. Just because it's fiction doesn't make it okay. Take Kilgrave from Jessica Jones as an example. That man is a fictional character who is a rapist, and manipulates and mind controls the main character and a few others to have sex with him against their will. Just because he's a fictional character doesn't make his actions okay.
This ship is gross, the people who ship it are gross, and I hope you understand how disgusting you are.

“For never was a story of more woe,
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo”
Well, today seems to be a good day for the NoMae shippers. Given the bts content Freya recently posted. And, since I just recently finished my new project, I decided to add to the merriment. Everyone’s talking about the Romeo and Juliet theory, so I made my own art inspired by the famous painting of the same name by Sergio Cupido.

I never thought I’d say this but Noa is so cute, I don’t care if he’s an ape lol. I’m lowkey shipping Mae and Noa as well, like just give me a hug, a longing gaze, *a small kiss,* and I’d die happy. I like their whole frenemy vibes, I never thought I’d ship an Ape with a human but I’m giving in.

Ok but Venus by Sleeping At Last immediately makes me think about Noa and Mae. It's a sweet love song, the title is a reference to the Roman goddess of love, but best of all, it has a telescope metaphor to describe the feeling of falling in love, so obviously I think about them!

At first, I thought you were a constellation I made a map of your stars, then I had a revelation You're as beautiful as endless You're the universe I'm helpless in An astronomer at my best When I throw away the measurements
Like a telescope I will pull you so close 'Til no space lies in between And suddenly, I see you Suddenly, I see you

I’ve seen a few people comparing the 1968 version of Planet of the Apes to the new series and comparing the methods by which humans fell. The reason why the OG PotA movie was all about atomic bombs being the Big Bad, was because during the mid to late 1900’s, nuclear warfare was something that a lot of people feared, considering the bomb has only recently been invented, and the damage it created during WWII. The original Planet of the Apes was released in 1968, still during the time period where people greatly feared the possibility of Nuclear War.
However, nuclear and atomic bombs are built differently today compared to 100 years ago, and therefore the kind of nuclear apocalypse that the OG PotA movies portrayed isn’t as realistic as it could have been.
However, you know what is realistic in our current time? Viruses. Go back and watch the start of Dawn, and compare it to COVID. Keeping in mind the movie was released 6 years before COVID hit, yet it perfectly predicts the way COVID spread, the riots, etc.
The way Rise/Dawn was written is much more plausible in our time, than the atomic warefare written into 1968’s Planet of the Apes
