@bearpawson Rolled up to Potarch an hour early and it was gorgeous. Started pouring rain right before lift. Still got it! (that’s my gum flying out mid-lift) Big thanks to @killerstrengthscotland @nicol.brett @stevie_shanks @potarch and all the lifters who came out. #dinniestones #potarch #stonelifting #killerstrengthscotland #uruzfit #sportkilt #kilt #meninkilts https://www.instagram.com/p/Byi6xXIAOGH/?igshid=1t9xzy21d3sbc

@Regranned from @beefstrength - On sunday I became one of only 55 people to have lifted the 332.5kg Dinnie Stones. A moment I'll cherish for a very long time. To follow in the footsteps of the likes of some of the famous strength athletes who have gone before me means a great deal. #stones #stoneland #dinnies #dinniestones #scotland #scottish #scottishhighlands #strength #strongman #highlands #highlandgames #aberdeen #aboyne #potarch #rogue #gripstrength #grip #crossfit - #regrann

Austrailan strongwoman Leigh Holland-Keen becomes just the second woman, the first in 40 years, to lift Scotland’s famous Dinnie Stones.
The Dinnie Stones are 2 giant granite boulders located outside the Old Potarch Hotel between Aboyne & Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Together they weigh 332.49Kg or 733Lbs. The 'smaller' of the stones weighs 144.47kg (318.5lbs) and the larger a massive 188.02kg (414.5lbs).
First lifted and carried by their namesake Donald Dinnie, the greatest athlete of the 19th century in 1860, lifting both stones has become a universal challenge of all professional Strongman athletes in the world.

Left for Edinburg today, stopping at the pretty Potarch Bridge (over River Dee, completed 1813) for photos. The bridge is famous for strongman Donald Dinnie who carried the 332 kg Dinnie Stones across. After that we made our way to Roslyn Chapel for a visit. It is an amazing 15th century building with many intricate carvings, carved pillars and stone roof. The Victorians renovated the Chapel after it was abandoned for centuries, but we thought the two styles together was a bit jarring. Dan Brown’s “The DaVinci Code” generated a huge popularity for the Chapel that’s still seen today. We then drove to Lasswade, checked into the Laird and Dog Inn and had a final pub dinner there- haddock, scampi, chips and cask ale, of course!

As you can tell i love Dinnie Stone videos @pommy.strength I promised an improvement (and something special) and I'd like to think that I delivered. On #potarchbridge, after a couple of drops, I covered the full width of the bridge (17' 1.5") walking with the #dinniestones (188.02 kg/144.47 kg, 414.5 lbs/318.5 lbs). Over the 17' 1.5" - I did let go of the rings a couple of times (not to re-chalk but because of falling/tripping) but I couldn't be happier! My first carry was 10' 1" so a 23" PB. It's a long story but, 'for legal reasons', I can't yet show the full video as other strongmen were in the background. You'll have to ask someone else for their names to be confirmed or denied because you'll get nothing from me on that one 🙂 Thanks so much to @ballogieestate and many others who I'll get around to thanking in the next few days #dinniestones #stoneland #dinniestoneswalk #potarch #donalddinnie #thisendedthewaythatiintended #timeforanothergoal https://www.instagram.com/p/BwczvpXg390/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1gsexxp896jvk

Mr Hunsaker, a 6ft 8in tall, 22-stone amateur weightlifter, travelled to the area while on holiday in the UK to take on the challenge.
The 36-year-old’s family watched as he lifted the granite boulders challenge, dressed in a kilt.

The smaller of the stones weighs more than 144kg (318lbs) and the larger is more than 188kg (414lbs).
Iron rings were attached to them in the 1830s so they could act as counterweights for scaffolding during the maintenance of Potarch Bridge.
In 1860, Donald Dinnie carried them across the width of Potarch Bridge and back.
Mr Hunsaker had learned of the stones via the weightlifting community.
‘Quite something’
The vitamin exporter told the BBC Scotland news website: “I had known about them for about a year, and started training seriously for it about two months ago.
“We were coming to the UK anyway so decided to try.
“I realised I could hang on to them for a while – to beat Mark Felix’s record is quite something.”
Ballogie Estate marketing co-ordinator Helen Knowles said of the new record: “We timed it with a stopwatch. He was very determined – and absolutely delighted.”
Attempts to lift the stones have to be made by arrangement, to protect the stones.
