We’ve just finished the global game jam! We made a silly little puzzle game about saving the world by untangling Yggdrasil’s roots. There are 3 puzzles in the game and I wrote 3 variations on a main theme for each puzzle. I wanted to try writing in a meter I haven’t worked with much, so the piece is in 5/4! My inspiration for this piece was “somehow combine the Tales of Symphonia title screen with Bewitching Puzzles from PLvsAA.”

I recorded myself on cello for this, which was a first for a game jam game. I’m really pleased with what I wrote under a 48-hour time limit while also contributing to the C# scripting.

That team went for a much more heartfelt narrative and created the start of something extremely ambitious which will hopefully be fleshed out in the future!]

Okay if you haven't yet, and you have Netflix/Paramount+, consider giving "School Spirits" a chance.

It looks like a silly little cheesy teenage ghosts show, I put it on for background noise, and then got totally engrossed in the mystery. It's VERY well written, very well filmed, the mystery was GREAT and the payoff at the end is also great.

One of the things majorly lacking in shows I've recently tried to watch is that they try to do a twist/reveal at the end that comes out of nowhere. They don't want you to guess what they're doing. This show doesn't do that. This show wants you to guess. They give you seven different mysteries and enough clues to guess (most of) what is going on, so that when you get the final puzzle piece to any given mystery, it feels GREAT.

The story premise is this: a teenager in hs wakes up as a ghost in the hs, and doesn't remember how she died, and with the help of the other ghosts, tries to solve the mystery of her own death.

Simple premise. BEAUTIFULLY executed. Not all of the questions that arise get answered, but the main one (what she doesn't remember) gets solved by the end of the season, leaving the "why/how and what comes next" to be carried to the next season. It does a cliffhanger RIGHT. But now I desperately want to see the second season (which I believe has been approved, so it's a matter of waiting).

So pretty please, if you're looking for something to do and a great, engaging lil mystery to watch, consider! School Spirits!!

#school spirits #there is so much in this show #Spike and I finished watching it today #her for the first time me for the second #and the second time through it was even better because I was picking up the right threads #the first time through there are SO MANY CLUES #but there are also SO MANY MYSTERIES that you aren't sure which clues belong to which mystery #and then the last half of the last ep hits #and dumps out all the final puzzle pieces to several mysteries #and we spent like an hour digging through thoughts afterword #pulling out themes and clues #and there are some potentially REALLY CLEVER things done #and actually they 100% followed through on the things they set forth and paid off so far #so I feel pretty confident some of the things we pieced together actually belong to the puzzle #and aren't just mistakes #or coincidences #and it's been so long since I got to see actually good writing STAY good writing through #I'm so stoked for this series

So Howdy is basically that one annoying ass kid in high school who’d call everyone around him ‘queer’ as an insult when it’s pretty obvious that he was gay himself and self projecting? Lmaooo i love it and it really does explain a lot!

Ngl though and I’m not trying to bash on laughingstock but i think it’s EDDIE that Howdy might be crushing on since in the banner on the previous update, Howdy’s icon is looking at Eddie’s.

I think he treats him hostilely is because he has feelings for him and he doesn’t know how to process them and so it comes out as anger and passive aggressive resentment.

Ofc I don’t think he’d be the best partner for Eddie due to this… I do think though that when it’s revealed that Eddie and Frank are madly in love that it’s going to cause Howdy to feel more anger and maybe even hatred towards the two.

i'd be willing to hear this theory out if there was any evidence other than "Howdy is looking at him in the banner" (and Home is looking at Howdy, and Barn is looking at Wally, and Wally is looking at Us, and Julie is looking at Frank - it doesn't necessarily connotate romance) and the idea of Howdy's treatment of Eddie being a "get out of my school" type of thing.

but if that were the case, wouldn't we have seen more evidence by now? like... Any?? Howdy and Eddie have had minimal interaction, and in each one Howdy was fully disinterested and dismissive of Eddie. there is literally nothing in his behavior or dialogue that implies romantic feelings, repressed or otherwise. you'd think that Howdy would at least get a little flustered or defensive, but he doesn't! all he expresses is disinterest and slight annoyance.

and this just... doesn't feel like a story where a major plot point is "character A is jealous of the established relationship because A is in love with one of them". it's a bit... how do i say? Tacky, perhaps? a touch basic? a teeny bit uninspired...

and character-wise, Howdy having feelings for Eddie doesn't make much sense (the thought that Howdy's treatment of him stems from romantic feelings Definitely doesn't). it doesn't really fit him and what we know about him? there's a reason Howdy views Eddie as a rival, i think.

Clary!! I had a dream with her in it (among other nomai) and I remember very distinctly that she had beautiful hazel eyes. So I decided to give her a design to go along with them!!

#outer wilds #outer wilds clary #it was a very cool dream (a few ow base game spoilers below!!) #generally outer wilds themed. same vague loop stuff #i had to dive down into this deeeeep ocean that was really vibrant with so many vivid colors #and navigate my way through reefs and crevasses and caves to reach a structure in the depths #it was like the vessel in general design #and i had to go through a bunch of black hole warps and find my way through the structure #puzzle out how to find the way forward #that kinda thing #and at the end there was a black hole warp way above me #and when i jump in i was taken to some kind of limbo #a room in stasis outside of time and reality #and a bunch of nomai were there!!! including yarrow n clary (they're the only ones that were identified) #none of them knew how long they'd been there or even really how they died #but ultimately the purpose of that limbo other-reality was to make a new world and a fresh start #idk i found it intriguing #faux art

The main food that I made for the elderly elf man 'party'. which was a Deconstructed Beef Wellington (kind of as ajoke since I watch s #o many silly cooking competition shows and they always make stuff 'deconstructed' at the last minute when under time limits or whatever.) #I've wanted to make beef wellington a few times but Ithink to do it well I'd need like..an actual kitchen and a lot of time and #an oven that fully works to bake things and etc. etc. So I thought this would be an easier method. A thick steak cut round to kind of mimi #c the round tenderloin or whatever it is in a wellington. instead of the puff pastry being wrapped around - I just did star shaped cut outs #of pastry and baked them and put them on top (to go with the star theme). instead of mushroom duxelles being wrapped around in pastry #its in a little circle under the steak. and instead of mustard being brushed onto the meat I made a mustard gravy sauce type of thing #Then of course asparagus on the side.. my favorite... Though I know some wellington #also has a layer of prosciutto I think. or I saw one person use crepes. I didn't feel it was necessary to incorporate that too lol #8. bapy son helping me do a giant puzzle that took me hours and I had no idea it was actually that large of a puzzle #until I started putting it together and for some reason it made me stressed by the end instead of relaxed lol.. puzzle fatigue #photo diary

I won’t post the 3rd iteration just yet because I might want to do some touch-up work on the mix this week before I call it /done/ done. But the version in the game is what I like to call “done enough for a 48 hour game jam game.”
