So, I know I’m otherkin and therian. But recently I decided to explore the other communities under the alterhuman umbrella. And now I’m questioning things. Specifically, a connection to dolls. I don’t identify as a doll. I don’t have any species dysphoria about my body parts not being doll-like. Nor do I experience shifts related to being a doll. But I feel almost a familial bond towards them, a desire to protect them. I don’t feel like a doll, but I wish I did. I might be copinglink, since my bond with dolls is partially from coping. Dolls can’t hate you. They don’t think you’re a freak. They can’t bully or make fun of you. They only support you. I don’t know how comfortable I am sharing the details, but during periods of extreme suicidal ideation, my dolls were my support group. I want to support them in return. I want to be one of them.

Thinking I might be fictionkin… specifically an otherfix fictionkin. Ever since reading Wings of Fire, I started feeling really connected to dragons, and have started getting shifts and instincts related to dragons. If I am a fictionkin, I’d probably be a Sea/Rain hybrid. Idk man, I’ll have to start thinking about it more and experiment with the feeling of being a dragon.

i've always known that i wanted wings but most wings you see just felt wrong but just now. i realized. i want six wings. like, that feels right somehow.

i'm also still not sure if i'm like alterhuman or something. like sometimes i do feel a connection to other beings. i can imagine myself with six wings. i can imagine myself like a creature also. sometimes more animal.

i think it's really confusing. i know i am part human. i just wish i could shapeshift my body in multiple ways.

i also do feel a physical sensation in my back now.

but there are also times where i feel somewhat okay with my body. (yes somewhat.)

and then i'm still questioning if i'm somewhere under the trans umbrella. which i feel is not connected to the maybe alterhumanity i experience.

Just questioning alterhuman things

Like, I know at the bare minimum,I'm fictionhearted, but my identity changes so much that I can't narrow it down

Like,one day I can identify as fictionkin,

then the next day think that I'm memoryhearted (my own term for someone who is fictionhearted who has memories)

then the day afterwards I question if I'm actually a system because sometimes I feel like my own characters (but only when I listen to music that reminds me of them.)

Any of y'all have shifts that just, never go away? My phantom ears and tail never go away, unless I'm having a shift for one of my other theriotypes since they usually don't blend together. Them phantom ears and tail be going HARD all the time. Paws are also a near constant.

My biggest, first, most important piece of advice for therians who awakened roughly a year ago? You are still NOT immune to the "I'm pretty sure I know everything by now" phase of being, relatively, extremely new to a community; which is to say, the education blog you have the urge to start is not necessary and can wait. You are in the learning and figuring yourself out phase.

Objectkin, how did you discover that being an object fit you? Because I’m questioning being a calculator right now. I don’t really know. I can’t go off of phantom limbs because calculators don’t have limbs. I could use instincts, but I don’t know for 100% certain what instincts calculators have. I am an animist, so I believe in sentience of all things. But I don’t really know what that sentience would look like. Anyway, curious how other objectkin discovered their kintype.

We were wanting to try something new and hear from people, so to systems, alterhumans, etc:

Do you have any more "uncommon" non-human identites or headmates? We don't hear too many about non-human alters specifically being very mixed, like not half and half and maybe more like a lot of different backgrounds here (1/4th one thing, 1/6th another). Objects are also some more non-human identites we don't hear much about either.

We don't know what tags to use for the alterhuman community since we're pretty new to it ourselves, so please let us know if there are tags that would be better suited here!

I have a question for otherkin/fictionkin/therian/alterhuman/nonhuman communities. I’m still pretty new in my understanding of these terms and I was wondering how does an individual find out their nonhuman identity? I understand that one may find their non-human identity through spirituality or psychological experiences. I want to better understand that though, more so the psychological side.

For example, would a dog-kin person identify as a dog because they feel like they have a special connection to dogs? Could one identify themselves as non-human but also not believe in the literal soul or any spiritual beliefs?

(Like let’s say one identifies as a dog because they feel like their “soul” is a dog but also not believe in the belief of a soul?)

I’ve seen a few people compare their non-human dysphoria(?) as similar to gender dysphoria and/or uses gender dysphoria as an example to better explain their non-human dysphoria. (I know non-human identities have nothing to do with gender, unless they specify) I can understand specific things to a point but I’m curious for the other experiences and reasons might one identify as non-human.

How does one know that they have multiple non-human identities? How does one find out they have mythical identity such as a dragon? How does one find out they’re fictionkin? Do some individuals with vague feelings and connection to a nonhuman identity label themselves as otherkin even if they don’t have experiences such as non-human “dysphoria” or experience phantom attributes like wings, horns, etc? Could an individual who doesn’t believe in souls, still manage to identify as non-human because they feel like they’re non-human in their “soul” despite them not actually believing in the soul? Do non-human’s try out labels to discover what feels right? Even if the individual feels non-human but can’t figure out which non-human identities/identity they are? Do some non-humans identify as non-human because that individual strongly desires to be non-human?

I hope this makes sense. I know that the terms I listed above have different meanings. Like how otherkin can include mythical creatures while theiran does not include mythical creatures.
