Diversity is defined as the practice or quality of including or involving people from various social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders or sexual orientations. This is diversity in theory, but what does this look like in practice? Check out our blog post to know what real diversity looks like!

It’s not about a quota, but the people themselves!

This is the Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Primer. I purchased this at my local Sephora for 29 dollars the week of launch ,I started using it last week. I didn't have any high expectations, I wasn't particularly anticipating the release but decided to give it a try when I saw it was manufactured by KENDO. I fell in love with the packaging and was pleasantly surprised to here the complexion line was geared twords oily skin. It's refreshing to see a brand who straight out of the gate came out with 40 initial foundation shades which made me want to support them with my coin. I used the primer and was pleasantly surprised by how tacky the primer was, product adheres like a dream. The matte primer still manages to give a slight glow to even a matte foundation. I am absolutely in love with this primer, its a slam dunk, I'm absolutely sold on this line and commend @badgirlriri for giving us the breakout line of the year. #casieatthe393#oilyskin#beautyblogger#complexionjunkie#kendo#fentybeauty#ripkylie#ripkim#rihanna#sephora#girlsandboyswithgoofskin#breakout#definethechanges#brandoftheyear#5stars#imsold#love#stopmakeupshaming#loveyourself#realdiversity#listenupbeautyindustry#thisisthefuture

stop trying to melt us fit into your broken mold
Black women do not fit in to the parameters of beauty and fashion created by White culture. We do not fit in because they aren't meant for us and we will never fit in. We (society) can try to diversify different sectors -which in this society means people of color to serve as commodity for white culture- but we will never be part of it. Selling ourselves short of who we are and trying to fit in will always mean being that one black person filling in a diversity quota. It will always mean that we deny our identity because we are trying to fit into a definition of self that does not in any way represents who we are. It will always mean that we may be the only black person to set foot in a certain environment in which we are not supposed to be in but were allowed to because by doing so a sense of false diversity is created. It will always bring up that feeling of discomfort because when you look around no one else looks like you.
I take no pride when a person from African and/or Indigenous descent of any of our groups of ethnicity for that matter is the first to be named to a certain position of power. It saddens me. It saddens me that in this day and age as people of color we have to compete with one another to get the one spot reserved for that one “successful” person from a certain ethnicity/race that will represent the rest of us and we have to be thankful for it. It is not progress. It is a reminder of how far back we have been set because of colonization, slavery, neo-colonialism, neo-liberalism and the greed of a few who dominate many because they control politics and economics. All of this results in the white washing and isolation of our cultures and traditions.
Diversity cannot exist in a system of inequality in which one group with power gets to define what diversity is and what it should look like. Diversity within that context will only continue to benefit the dominant group therefore it isn't just and it isn't real. The kind of diversity created in capitalist societies is the kind of game in which people with power choose the players and place them against each other and the last one standing gets the price therefore keeping us busy fighting each other while feeding the greed of the real enemy.
We are not savages as we are portrayed. We have not occupied or genocide any other cultures. This has been the image portrayed by those who have acted in savage ways towards our people. White supremacy, colonization and its symptoms has brought about the genocide of our people and co-opted our cultures. We are no third world or underdeveloped. Our cultures are ancient and have developed within our traditions. We don’t fit into their standards because they were not created for us they imposed on us. We have no need to fit into their standards because we have our own cultures. Our cultures are rich. They are beautiful. They represent us and they are ours.
