It ends up as something much more wonderful than Harry ever could have expected, stood with a walker in his ratty PJs after a nasty flare-up, and he finally finds someone who can love him just the way he is.

They wrote another all time favourite for me <3 anyway. This is THE stripper AU. THE Angel Harry with wings. I love love love love it’s such a cute fic omfg

It’s you or no one else (20K) by softfonds ( @softfonds , actually one of my favourite authors here): a cute little ABO fic that revolves around a qui pro quo. Omega Harry and Alpha Louis meet on a cruise while they’re pretending to be respectively Mrs Zayn Payne and a stranger, definitely not a private detective hired by Mr Liam Payne to follow his husband on a unrealistic secret love affair. Very light, very fun! TAGS: Historical fic - 1940s, Fluff, detective Louis, club singer Harry, mentions of pregnancy, false identity

Rise up like the sun (41K) by Star_Henderson ( @tommosgun ) : Louis is a doctor on his way to UCLA for an interview. Harry is an actor who Louis vaguely recognises. He attempts to take a sneaky photo, to send to his friend to help identify him but leaves the flash on. They bond over stupid mistakes, french toast and motorbike rides to the ocean.

Eyes on the horizon (12K) by yeah_alright ( @uhoh-but-yeah-alright ): This was such a fun read. This author never disappoints. I want to quote a line of the fic that got me hooked: «This frankly devastating man with a scruff-dusted face that had Harry’s thoughts drifting to impure places faster than they ever had and a bright, raspy voice that could convince the angel on his shoulder to fall in line with the devil on his other in less than a sentence.» TAGS: age difference, older Harry (he’s forty), younger Louis (he’s in his 20s), bisexual Harry, so much humor in the writing I had so much fun!

haven't done a last line in a while, i think? anyway this is from my wip where louis and harry married young and divorced only slightly less young, and now life has sort of brought them together, and louis is clearly annoyed about it. also this is a long af sentence :D

“If you didn't want me to go out with Liam, you should’ve said, and you shouldn’t’ve given him my number, you wanker,” Zayn says as soon as Louis opens the door, pushing past Louis into his house, and through to the kitchen where he reaches into the cabinet above the fridge where Louis keeps his weed.

Hunger Games AU where Louis Tomlinson is district six's victor from the 69th Hunger Games and Harry Styles is district seven's victor from the 72nd Hunger Games.

notes: this is one of my favorite fics of all time, you don’t have to be a big HG fan to enjoy this story ( but if you are i think it’s very accurate to the saga) so beautifully written and so gut wrenching in equal parts, amazing ending, cannot recommend it enough <3

☆ The Afterlife Fic (The Best I Ever Had in My Entire Life... Or Death) by LovingCup

AU- After dying in an accident, Louis Tomlinson arrives in the Afterlife. Not Heaven and not Hell, Louis finds himself in Judgment City UK: a pristine city where the food and entertainment are divine and the newly departed must undergo a Review of their life on Earth to determine if they have lived a life worthy of advancement in the universe, or if they must be returned to Earth to be born again in a new body.

On his first full day in the Afterlife, Louis meets Harry Styles, and the two have an instant connection. Over the course of their Reviews, they fall in love and begin to find that even though they didn't know each other on Earth, they are nonetheless linked to one another in perfect ways. Both are hoping to move ahead in the universe together, but they are challenged with the threat of separation if one or both of them is sent back to Earth to be born again.

Loosely based on the Albert Brooks' film "Defending Your Life" starring Brooks and Meryl Streep. One scene in particular is drawn from the movie, but other than that scene and the general concept, this story veers far away from the film. There were no blowies in the 1991 movie, I swear!

notes: another one of my favorites! for what I remember, a long read, but so worth it. This story touches on topics of grief, loss, love, life and fears through the life of Louis and Harry and how they navigate their relationship in the afterlife (ends good).

☆ You Fill My Lungs With Sweetness (Can I Be Close to You?) by sideofzemblanity

Busy picturing Harry’s stupid face on the stupid dummy, Louis goes through a series of kicks before returning to a low guard and cycling through punches. Harry’s still talking, gesturing with his hands as he rounds Louis, standing to his back. “You do a few butt-shaping exercises, tighten this up a little bit,” he smacks Louis’ arse and the omega freezes while Harry cheerfully continues, “you could pull this off.”

“You know what?” Louis snaps, lifting on his tiptoes to get the leverage so he can wrap his arm around the alpha’s neck, forcing him to bend in half while Louis locks him in a chokehold. “Pull this off,” he snarls. They stagger over a few steps, Louis gritting his teeth as Harry tries to break free. “Is it because Payne hates me?” he complains, voice edging on an annoyed whine, “Or is it, like, an omega thing?”

Too late, Louis realizes that Harry has got a grip on his leg and this time as he pulls against Louis’ hold, it loosens, the alpha lifting him in the air before slamming his back into the mat, breaking Louis’ grip completely. Harry kneels on the mat, hovering over him with a sneer, “Don’t kid yourself. Nobody thinks of you that way.”

☆ Come My Love Again by softfonds

Harry Styles is handsome, clever, and rich. At least that’s what his friends say of him. He also thinks of himself as a matchmaker in Highbury, pairing people together when he finds the time. But when the arrival of a certain gentleman flips Harry’s world on its head, he starts to question everything that was once all too familiar to him, including his relationship with his good friend, Mr. Tomlinson. An Emma AU.

notes: I really enjoyed the little bit of angst on this fic, i think it’s omegaverse if i don’t remember it wrong?. enjoy of Louis being a classic gentlemen

Harry’s breath catches as the glow grows bigger and bigger until he’s squinting his eyes and blinking at the sudden intense brightness. He closes his eyes, rubbing at them helplessly. When his eyes open again- he gasps, grip loosening on his bow as he gawks at the sight before him.

Because the swan is gone.

And in its place is the prettiest omega Harry has ever seen.

Louis turns back to Royce and Hunt who are staring at him in confusion. He pastes a pleasant smile onto his face, clasping his hands together. “Gentlemen, I understand. I understand the predicament that we are in…” He clears his throat. “But there is something you should know.”

“What is this, Louis?” Royce asks, exchanging a look with Hunt.

Taking a few steps backward until he is beside a very bewildered looking Harry, Louis takes a deep breath. “We are, uh –” He reaches out and touches Harry’s arm. You cannot actually be doing this, he thinks. But then he does. “We are getting married.”

The Proposal AU, where Louis is the no-nonsense editor in chief of one of the largest publishing houses in the country, and Harry is the unlucky assistant that gets roped into a fake engagement to prevent his boss from being deported. Things don't go as planned.

- What do you mean he’s coming? , MediaWhore (15K, GA). Love this one. Famous/Non-Famous AU in which Harry has to make a speech for Gemma’s wedding. He’s already having a hard time writing it when he finds out that Oscar Nominee Louis Tomlinson will attend the wedding. Absolutely love it.

- Three French Hems , 100percentsassy / gloria_andrews (20K, M). Oooh. Love this one as well (Yes I’m going to say that for every single one of them, sue me). AU in which Louis’ a well known Burberry designer and Harry shows up at different events wearing unflattering suits from Lanvin, Lanvin… and only Lanvin. So funny and sweet. Harry’s so endearing, and I’m obsessed with his and Louis’ dynamic.

- Barefoot in Blue Jeans , indiaalphawhiskey (24K, E). Hehe. Absolutely adore this one. AU in which Louis Tomlinson, famous footballer, hire an Au Pair to look after his son. Enter Harry. So sweet, I adore the complicity between Caspian and Harry. And Louis and Harry are just precious.

- Take My Breath Away , RealityBetterThanFiction (153K, E). It took me so long to read this fic, probably because I hadn’t seen Top Gun and only found interest in the Top Gun universe when I watched Top Gun Maverick. Anyways, Top Gun Fic for you. Louis and Harry’s dynamic is so interesting. I felt for both of them in their hatred/hidden relationship/forbidden relationship situation. It’s just so good. Read that in one night I couldn’t drop the phone. So good. Love it. Read it.

- burn this flame , rainbowninja167 (13K, E). I just had such a great time reading this fic. Harry is just so relatable and exactly like I’d imagine him. AU in which Football Player Louis takes part in a Charity Football match. He has to train Pop Star Harry Styles (and a bunch of other celebrities) to play football. The problem? Harry has absolutely no football skills. At all. It’s a fun ride. Also Harry has a massive crush on Louis but that’s neither here nor there.

- The Edge of the Stars , casuallyhl (16K, NR). What to say… what to say. One of my absolute favourites. Such a nice and sweet read. AU in which Louis and Jay sign up in the British TV Show Meet the Parents. Harry’s the one Jay has to convince to take Louis on a date. Won’t go into too much details, just read it. I love it.

- come as you are , stylinsoncity (77K, M). Ooooh *immediately starts sobbing*. Love this one. Teacher/Student (TA) relationship. In the author’s words, “both are caught in a story about forbidden love, loss and second chances, in which one is on the brink of heartbreak and the other comes along when he's needed most.” *starts crying again*

- Make Me Feel , bananaheathen (10K, M). This fic is so so beautiful. So beautiful. Famous/Non-Famous AU in which Louis’ a well-renowned sculptor in need of inspiration. He then meets Harry. Louis is so quiet and interesting. A bit difficult with Harry too. It was so nice to read their relationship evolve from their meeting to the breaking point. To them meeting again. Sometimes I reread it just because I miss the atmosphere of it. I just love it.

- interim , everysingleday (17K, GA). Ah… It’s not a happy one. I’ll tell you that. Louis helps Harry through his struggles. I cried so much, it’s so well written. They love each other so much and it’s so heart wrenching and beautiful to read. Anyways. Read it, but read the tags first.

- Darling, so it goes , disgruntledkittenface (195K, E). Grace Kelly AU (I still don’t know who Grace Kelly is after reading this fic but you don’t need to know who they are to read it, at least I didn’t, lol) in which Louis is Prince Louis of Monaco and Harry a world-famous actor. It’s them falling in love, basically. And Harry accommodating to the Royal Life. I love how they’re fighting through everything for their love. And to stay together. It’s just so pure. Love it.

- The One Where Harry Really Doesn’t Have Ten Cats , LoadedGunn (10K, GA). Hahaaaa. Love this one ! Famous/Non-Famous AU in which Harry’s a pet-sitter for celebrities. He ends up having to cat-sit Louis Tomlinson’s cat. Love Louis and Harry’s dynamic. Love Louis, love Harry. It’s just a nice read overall. I read it all the time, to be honest.

- Whirlwind , dolce_piccante (21K, M). Is it too much if I say again that I love it…? Oh well, I do. Famous/Non-Famous AU in which Harry, famous actor and Oscar nominee, struggles with finding a date for his big night. When his mother asks him who’s the last person he went on a date with he’s had the most fun, Harry reaches out to his prom date and first love, Louis. Louis’ the best and it flows so easily between the two of them it’s as if they never left each other.

I'm sorry if I reply so late, but I wasn't home and didn't have access to my computer. Thank you for asking this question. I've been wanting to write a post about my favourite fics for ages now. There are too many. That's why I can't pic 5 favourites, but I will make a run out of my bookmarks for now, if that's okay 👉👈🥹. This was fun and I have so many more fics that I love. Like all the ABOs and really so many others, but I don’t want to add them all in a post because they will get lost and they deserve ALL the attention. So let’s tag this as a LARRY FIC RECS - PART 1. I'm very excited! Alright, let's go in no specific order:

Mirror Touch by pinky_heaven19 (59K): synesthesia AU that made me all soft and melting. Easily, one of the first fics I'd recommend.

The Changer and the Changed by homosociallyyours (60K): Hands down the best Girl direction AU for me. Lots of lesbian and feminism talk. Very very good. I saved it on my phone and re-read it every now and then.

No pressure, no diamonds by karamelised (71K): Another fic I would read in loop. It’s just fun and hot but also angstyyy. Louis is a menace and Harry CAN’T (can he?) have any of it. They got me all in the first scene. The description of Harry got me like “alright yeah, that’s it. that’s the one”. Venice x Larry is always a good idea.

Love After the End of the World by mercurial-madhouse (writing_practice) (162K): This one is the dystopian-soulmate AU you need to read. Louis is such a pain in the ass in this one, I swear. You can't not love it lmao

Sodalite & Aventurine by forreveries (81K): Give me all the pirates fics, because I will drink them up like water in the desert.

Fading by tothemoonmydear (202K): please read the tags of this one. It's a tough one, I read it long ago, so I don't remember much of the writing style, but I think the ED is depicted in a very thoughtful way.

Time Passed by coffinofachimera (66K): this broke my heart. I rarely cry with fics, but I sobbed at the end. Like the tags say... heavy heavy angst.

Our Lives, Non-Fiction by indiaalphawhiskey (@indiaalphawhiskey) (114K): I will defend this fic til my last breath. It's mature, it's complex, it's metaliterature at some point. Definitely NOT canonical, loved it!

For As Long As I Can Remember (It's Been December) by green_feelings (116K): the amnesia AU that got under my skin because it made me sooooo mad!

And down the long and silent street by whimsicule (86K): This fic just came back in my mind yesterday in chat with @lt2hoe! Victorian London, wherein Louis and Harry are on the opposite ends of the social ladder. More of these please!

Chasing Empty Spaces by Lis (domesticharry) (79K): even though I remember complaining with my sister about the fact that it contains few historical innaccurancies, I loved the story! Very emotional til the very very very end.

Dance to the Distortion by Lis (domesticharry) (97K): speaking of annoying Louis... this author never disappoints, trust me!

Let's Fall in Love in a Place You Want to Stay by embro (134K): this was cute and got me pouting all along cause I didn’t know if I was sad or just emotional. Oh, this is the Tarzan AU!

Take My Breath Away by RealityBetterThanFiction (154K): Top gun AU. One direction as pilots was what I needed. Narry is magical here!

With The Strength To Carry On by lovelarry10, therogueskimo (113K): I read it for my professional bias. Doctor AU. They cute cute cute.

The school of extraordinary lovers by stylinsoncity (168K): I think I consider this one a classic. It’s simply a beautiful read.

Maybe down in lonesome town by resurrectdead (45K): I don't quite remember this one, but it's in my bookmarks so I'll trust past me and rec this too. Farm AU are my guilty pleasure.

Let me separate my favourite authors from the rest because I’m on my knees for these two angels:

The agony and the rapture by @thedevilinmybrain (venomedveins) (79K): you have no idea how much I love this fic. I would dare say I love it as much as I love pistacchios. And I love pistacchios A LOT.

I want to be just as close as the holy ghost is by devilinmybrain (venomedveins) (35K): As Dj Khaled would say... ANOTHER ONE. This is my love letter for @thedevilinmybrain I’m not sorry.

Babydoll blues by devilinmybrain (venomedveins) (111K): my comfort fic. I read it when I wanna feel something. Hottest one on AO3. So hot it’s dangerous. They have this great ability to create this fantastic dynamic between Harry and Louis. I can’t get enough.

And the other fave must be @larrydoinglaundry <3

Love is a word, you gave it a name by CuckooTrooke (158K): this fic is everything. Smut, fluff, serious talk, gender talk, adventure, mental health. Waiting for the sequel like a kid waits for Christmas morning.

This chemistry like candy to me by CuckooTrooke (35K): If you have ever asked me for an omega Harry fic rec, this one is the first one I mentioned. 100% recommended by me to literally anyone lmao. it’s the fluffiest, most endearing, I like the way the author explores and navigates some events.
