After the survey closes on december 15th, we’ll reach you with your secret santa match, the person who you’ll be giving a present to!!

From dec. 16 to dec. 24, you send your match annonymous asks to get to know them better. This could be of literally anything, asking them how their day was or what was the last movie they enjoyed, try to get to know them!!

On december 25, you post your creation tagging your match and using @redqueenetwork’s secret santa event | (creation theme) for @match as your description.

daniel barrow is a newblood: theory

this theory is NOT MINE but i wanted to expand on it (i believe it was @evangelineartemiasamos that first proposed it?)

anyway, it goes like this: in Red Queen, one of the first scenes is when Mare’s family gets a letter from Shade. Her father sniffs it and detects pine, deducing that Shade has been moved away from the Choke. 

Sorry: how the fuck do you detect pine on a piece of paper that travelled hundreds of miles and many days in the post?? That kind of ability is, well, superhuman. 

Also, in the letter, Shade also references Daniel as “Dad the bloodhound”. Now. Wasn’t there another newblood in Glass Sword that was referred to as a bloodhound? She had enhanced senses: sight, hearing, smell.

i mean.... it adds up. Mare’s dad could be a newblood. 

And, as you may have noticed, this ability would be relatively easy to hide. Easier to hide than, say, teleporting or shooting lightning from your hands. Daniel could very well live a normal life in the Stilts, even as a newblood. 

Further proof: the newblood marker appears to be somewhat genetic. It would make sense, if Mare AND Shade are both newbloods, for one of their parents to be as well. 

Also, a bomb was dropped on Daniel’s unit in the Lakelander War. We never get details, but we know that the explosion cost him a lung and a leg, that it was a tragic accident. What if it wasn’t, though? What if it was all part of the Crown’s newblood genocide policy, when they tried to find and weed out newbloods in the Nortan Army?

The biggest objection to this I can think of is that Mare would’ve seen her father’s name on her list. But there are a couple ways this could work out: there were hundreds of names on that list. She could’ve easily missed a few. Or, the blood tagging technology wasn’t quite advanced enough yet to identify every single instance of a blood marker in each member of the population. Dozens of newbloods probably fell through the cracks. There can’t only be 300 Ardents in all of Norta: Julian probably missed a lot of them.

Anyway: if Daniel Barrow were a newblood, that would be really fuckin cool. I’m just saying. It’s definitely possible.
