In your own words, tell us what you like most about your MC / OC.
What I love most about Riikka is how she always finds a way to talk about Finland and share about her Finnish culture. She was born and raised there until she moved to Westchester when she was 2. Her father was born and raised in Porvoo/Borgå, Finland and her mother was born and raised in Astoria, Oregon, where there's an important Finnish community. It explains why she's so deeply connected to her Finnish roots.
Do you feel your MC / OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
Riikka and I share the same height (163 cm), the same main love language (quality time), and a love for raspberries and salmiakki. We also share the same romantic and sexual orientations (demigray), but that was completely accidental. It was only a few months ago that I realized I was also gray, not just demi.
Unlike her, I don't have Asian origins, I have only one culture and one native tongue, I am not an only child, I am not allergic to peanuts and spring is not my favourite season.
What is most important to your MC / OC? What is their motivation in life?
Happiness is most important to her. Happiness for her and also for everyone else. She wishes for people around her to be utterly happy, especially her loved ones.
What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
Riikka's biggest pet peeves are cruelty and any forms of abuse. She also dislikes peanuts because of her severe allergy and rutabagas.
If your MC / OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
That would be hanging out with Mr Red. If she could go back in time, in every timeline, she would not follow Jane and would tell her how bad that idea is. Each time, it has impacted the group and left Dan with PTSD and a high level of anxiety to manage.
What is your MC / OC’s favorite quote or song?
"Voimallinen tahto vie miehen läpi harmaan kiven." ("A strong will takes a man through a gray rock.")
This quote is from the classic book Seitsemän veljestä (The Seven Brothers) by Aleksis Kivi.
Because Riikka has a silly side, she enjoys telling Dan "eteenpäin sanoi mummo lumessa", which translates into "forward, said granny in the snow". It means to keep going through difficulties with determination.
Both quotes are about sisu. It's a Finnish concept hard to translate but that could be explained as perseverance, strength of will, tenacity, courage, bravery during moments that seem hopeless.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC / OC? (It can be why you created them, how they’ve inspired you, or you could write a little blurb as if it is coming from your OC - an acceptance speech. :) )
Riikka is very special to me because she's my first ILITW MC. Unfortunately, she passed away in a violent manner during my very first playthrough, leaving me shaken. I had to grieve her before being able to replay the book and create another MC.
Because I couldn't forget her, I decided to write a series, Darker Than Night, that follows the original timeline. It's very angsty but also cathartic.
I also had the idea of an AU series telling about how the lives of the children would have changed if they hadn't had the sleepover in the woods. This AU series is titled In Joy and Sorrow and it starts when they are in junior, so a year before when the book starts. I love this series because I can talk about so many important and different topics, and there are wonderful OCs. Even my four other It Lives MCs are dropping by from time to time.
Thanks to this series, I've really gotten to know Riikka, and I keep on learning about her. And now, she can fully live a great life she should have never lost so young in the first place.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo of the National Coalition Party says that government cooperation will continue despite the latest release of old racist comments by a Finns Party cabinet minister.
The PM was reacting to racist text messages by Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman (Finns) published by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat on Sunday.
Orpo told Yle that Rydman's messages were "inappropriate" but that it was important for the cabinet to get down to work.
"Even though these were private messages, that language is inappropriate and I cannot accept such a way of speaking. But the government's work is what needs to be taken care of," said Orpo.
Orpo said it was "absolutely essential" that Rydman had said on Twitter that he was committed to the government's anti-racism statement earlier this month.
The messages date back to 2016, when Rydman was an MP representing the NCP and a member of two key parliamentary committees.
He was dismissed from the NCP after numerous women accused him of harassing minors. Early this year he joined the Finns Party and in early July became economic affairs minister, replacing fellow Finns Party MP Vilhelm Junnila, who resigned over his close, long-running links to extremist right-wing groups and falsified CV.
Orpo said that he had not discussed the matter with Rydman himself, but that the leaders of the four governing parties had talked about it on Friday morning. He added that the government would hold an internal seminar on 16 August to discuss communications.
Purra downplays messages
Rydman had not commented on the messages by Friday other than to say he was considering legal action against the newspaper for publishing them. He is already involved in a legal dispute with the paper over its reporting of the harassment allegations last year.
The Finns Party chair, Finance Minister and deputy PM Riikka Purra, also said that Rydman's messages were "inappropriate," but downplayed them, saying they were private messages released by a disgruntled former romantic partner.
She has faced her own uproar over racist, violent posts made a decade and a half ago on an immigration forum hosted by Jussi Halla-aho, now Speaker of Parliament and the apparent Finns Party presidential candidate. On Sunday, Purra issued a new defence of her record on racism.
Since taking office five weeks ago, Orpo's right-wing government has been rocked by a series of scandals involving racist comments and far-right ties involving cabinet ministers from the nationalist Finns Party.
SPP condemns comments, plans to discuss larger picture
The fate of the four-party government may lie in the hands of one of its junior partners, the Swedish People's Party (SPP). The centrist language-based party is deeply divided over cabinet participation, with former minister of social services Eva Biaudet leading an informal group calling for the SPP to quit the coalition.
With its nine seats in Parliament, the SPP could topple the government if it votes with the opposition in confidence votes expected when Parliament reconvenes in September. In June, none of the SPP lawmakers voted with the other government parties in the Junnila confidence vote, which he narrowly survived due to absences by opposition MPs.
On Friday afternoon SPP chair and education minister Anna-Maja Henriksson told Helsingin Sanomat that she would have hoped for an apology from Rydman over his messages.
"That has not happened. This does not make the overall situation easier, as we have to evaluate this at some point," Henriksson commented to HS.
According to Henriksson, Rydman's messages reveal Rydman's own thoughts, even though they were private messages. According to Henriksson, the messages are "very inappropriate" and "racist".
Henriksson told HS that her party's parliamentary group plans to have a broad discussion on the overall situation in August.
Meanwhile SPP parliamentary group chair Otto Andersson told the commercial MTV News on Friday that Rydman's language was "harsh, racist and really inappropriate". He added that "the situation was already extremely serious before, and yesterday's news about Rydman does not improve it."

Last night I woke up to dread and fear.
I got up and took my morning meds, brushed my teeth, did the morning skincare routine, applied lotion on my skin, and got dressed.
I had already washed the dishes when my mother came over. She helped me tidy up.
After she left, I left too and took two buses to Kohtaus. Anton and Mirette and Marjut came later, we all had a good time ☺️
Later I went to see Riikka, we talked a lot and had coffee.
I took 3 buses back home because I was too lazy to walk.
Once home, I took my evening meds and did the evening skincare routine, and applied lotion on my skin, and brushed my teeth. I went to bed before midnight.
Tomorrow will be Finland’s independence day.
As it will be Wednesday, I will scrub the toilet bowl and change the small towels and take out the recycling.
On Thursday, I will take a shower. In the afternoon, I will go visit a couple of friends.
On Friday, I will go visit my friend Raili.
After that, I will go to the ice cream parlor.
On Saturday, I will do the weekly housework, and in the evening I will go to Riikka’s Xmas party.
On Sunday, I will go to movies to see a Finnish documentary.

Now that Noah's back I thought it was about time I came back, too. I've missed Tumblr and all you pocket friends so much!!! ❤️ Since the last time I was active here, I've graduated and am a registered nurse now, working full time. Also I'm moving (just nearby, to an appartment with a cheaper rent) at the end of the month. Otherwise everything's the same. I'm fine, my kids are fine and my kitties are fine. I've been busy and I'm still getting used to the nine to five. But life is pretty good atm. Or it will be, when I'll be done with the moving.😮💨

It was so tedious to listen to Riikka Purra (PS) in the parliamentary election debate on Yle TV1 on Monday. The only thing she can talk about is immigration. At one point the topic of debate was how to unfuck our healthcare system and she was like ‘Training all these fucking IMMIGRANT NURSES takes so much time there isn’t any left over for treating the patients!’ Come on now, that’s not the reason and you know it.

Several morning papers, including Helsingin Sanomat (siirryt toiseen palveluun), write that representatives of the four parties looking to form a new Finnish government are scheduled to deal with the most difficult issues facing a possible coalition this week.
The paper lists those as including social security, climate policy and immigration.
Helsingin Sanomat notes that last week's talks among the National Coalition Party, Finns Party, Swedish People's Party and Christian Democrats ended on an optimistic note, with NCP leader and PM-designate Petteri Orpo saying, "even in difficult questions, you have to move forward and I believe that we will move forward."
Immigration policy, though, continues to be a divisive issue.
Riikka Purra, the chair of the Finns Party, said on Friday that without clear changes to immigration policy, a government will not be formed in the current negotiations.
Orpo, in turn, said that immigration has already been discussed, as well as internal security and criminal policy.
"The election result must be seen somewhere. It brings its own starting point for the negotiations," Orpo stated before the weekend.
HS political editor Marko Junkkari wrote in an analysis of last week's talks that this could be interpreted as a sign of the NCP's willingness to compromise in its aim of significantly expanding work-based immigration. However, Junkkari did not believe that the negotiations on immigration policy will be easy, as the views of the parties are still far apart.
Freeze on eastern border
In a Monday morning editorial, the farmers' union paper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus writes (siirryt toiseen palveluun) that the longer Russia continues its military operations in Ukraine, the more it weakens its own economy and its international influence.
The paper says that Russia was mistaken in believing that its energy sanctions would erode the West's unity in supporting Ukraine. The support of the United States and the influential G7 countries for Ukraine at their weekend meeting was even stronger than before.
At the same time, Russian support in partner countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union is crumbling.
It is increasingly difficult for the Russian leadership to find a way out of the crisis, MT continues, noting there are only bad options left, the worst of which would be expanding the war into an open conflict with the West.
Instead, this paper expects that reprisals and harassment aimed at Russia's neighbours will increase. The recent freezing of the funds of the Finnish embassy is an example of this. Cyber-attacks, harassment of Finnish citizens still visiting Russia and threats of an influx of refugees are possible next steps.
These must be openly discussed in Finland, writes Maaseudun Tulevaisuus, noting that the Nordic nation must be prepared for harassment and to respond to it with strong actions.
In turn, vandalism targeting Russian diplomatic missions must be strongly condemned. Even if Russia erodes its credibility by its own behaviour, Finland should not do the same.
Interaction with Russia continues to decrease, and Finnish companies that still import from Russia in particular have to urgently look for new suppliers.
It is obvious that in practice the border is closing. The eastern border is facing a cold spell that will last for years, says Maaseudun Tulevaisuus.
Cheap flights are history
Hufvudstadsbladet (siirryt toiseen palveluun)points out that it has clearly become more expensive to fly over the past year.
Recent inflation figures now show that the price of plane tickets has been climbing at a rapid pace. In April, for example, a domestic ticket in Finland cost 43 percent more than it did a year earlier.
During the same time period, air fares to international destinations increased by almost 36 percent. That is 4.5 times more than the general rate of inflation.
Norwegian aviation analyst Hans Jørgen Elnæs told the paper that there are several factors behind the price increases. To some extent, it reflects a general increase in airline costs. But it is also affected by airline capacity not returning fast enough to meet post-pandemic demand.
Also, costs have increased permanently for airlines. Fuel prices have risen, and at the same time, interest rates are growing. Furthermore, the US dollar is currently strong against European currencies.
"And if you look at a company like Finnair, they clearly have higher debt levels than before the pandemic," Elnæs pointed out.
On top of that are the efforts to slow down the climate impact of air travel. Just under a month ago, the EU countries agreed on new requirements for renewable fuel. According to that agreement, at least two percent of aviation fuel must be fossil-free by 2025, and at least 70 percent by 2050.
"Airlines want to use more renewable fuel, but currently it costs 5-6 times as much as regular jet fuel. The airlines with the most modern engines, such as Finnair, will have an advantage over those with older aircraft. But regardless, it is absolutely guaranteed to raise prices," stated Elnæs.
Thunderstorm season
Finland woke up on Monday morning to largely clearly skies and sunny conditions.
However, Iltalehti (siirryt toiseen palveluun)writes that as the day progresses, there may be some dark clouds gathering in those serene, blue skies.
In the southern and eastern parts of the country, some showers will be seen starting in the afternoon. And, the paper quotes Foreca meteorologist Anna Latvala as saying that thundershowers may roll through some areas during the day.
Monday's temperatures in most of the country are forecast to range between 19C and 24C, slightly cooler along the coast. Temperatures in the northwestern part of Lapland are expected to be 12 to 18C degrees.
On Tuesday, large parts of the country are likely to see thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall.
Latvala notes that these thundershowers may be highly localised with both clear skies and downpours at the same time in the same towns.

afraid of fire- too hot, too incontrollable, and WAY too unpredictable- if you so much as use a lighter near her she will full on sprint in the opposite direction.
14.Ingrained habits/forces of habit
she will lie down and fall asleep in any places that feel safe, even if she isn't that tiered- a habit left over from her time growing up alone in the wilderness, it was usually too dangerous to sleep, so when she got the chance she always took it.
