Bruce: “What’s the happiest place on earth?”
Finney: “The science lab.”
Robin: “The gym.”
Bruce: “Apparently neither of you have ever been in Vance’s arms.”
Finney: “Of course we’ve never been in Vance’s arms, he’s terrifying!”
Robin: “I brushed against him accidentally once and he pulled out a switchblade.”

“You can’t ship these two guys together because it was the 70′s and they wouldn’t be openly gay! There was homophobia! It’s not realistic!!”
If we’re talking about realism, boy oh boy, do I have some bad news for you about girls with psychic dreams and a phone that lets you talk to dead people.

Finney and Bruce continue to play baseball against each other for several years, but they’re friends, both on the field and off the field, and the real rivalry is between their Dumb Ass Boyfriends who are competing to see who is the better cheerleader.
The game starts are the stands are filled with parents and family and students and Robin, who is wearing Finney’s letterman jacket and shouting for his pitcher boyfriend to ‘get their asses out! Send them home crying like babies’ and he’s grabbing Gwen’s pompoms and shaking them around.
On the other side of the stands, Vance is at the fence, shaking it and howling for Bruce to ‘FUCKING DESTROY THEM BABE’ as other people watch his feral-ness in horror.
So at the next game, Finney and Bruce are hiding their faces because now these idiots have painted themselves: Robin has ‘front range’ painted on his face, one word on each cheek, while Vance has worn only his jean vest, no shirt underneath, and painted ‘optometrists’ across his chest.
Bruce and Finney remain friends, small talk before games and genuinely congratulating each other afterwards, discussing their sisters and professional players on the breaks, both of them ignoring their obnoxious boyfriends who are howling for blood.
And it progresses every game and every year until Robin convinces Gwen and Suzie to get the rest of the cheerleaders at Finney’s game and they’re echoing his cries for desolation, just a bunch of junior high girls repeating his chant of ‘wreck their asses! wreck their asses!’ as Robin holds up giant handmade signs every time Finney is pitching, while Vance and his friends wear comically huge glasses to support the North Denver Optometrists, beating on their chests every time Bruce hits a home run.
The worst part about it is that any other baseball game, Vance and Robin act like civilized humans. If Finney is playing against any team who’s not the Optometrists, Robin shows up with some shouts of joy, but mostly talking to Gwen about upcoming horror films. And as long as Bruce isn’t up against the Front Range, Vance is supportive, but bored in the stands with Amy, and constantly asking how much longer until the game is over and they can go play pinball.

Finney: "I made this friendship bracelet for you."
Robin: "I don't really wear jewelry."
Finney: "Oh, okay... You don't have to wear it."
Robin: "No, I'm gonna wear it forever. Back off."

Robin and Finney are dating, which is cool. Robin is Finney’s romantic boyfriend, so he gets to hold Finney’s hand and listen to him talk about space and go on dates and stuff. This means Robin is Gwen’s platonic boyfriend, so he has gets to hold Gwen’s bag and listen to her talk about her friends and have her be the third wheel on dates and stuff.
Or, a bunch of head canons with Gwen both ruining and supporting Robin/Finney
Finney patching Robin up after a fight and Robin making comments about how he has the cutest nurse, but Finney is still mad at him for fighting.
Robin arguing that Finney can’t be mad at him, Robin got in the fight for defending Gwen against some kids who said she was weird
Finney pointing out that if Robin was defending Gwen, she is going to be more pissed than he is. Gwen likes to fight her own battles, she doesn’t let other people be her voice.
Robin realizing, oh shit, he’s right, and asking Finney to lie and say Robin got in the fight defending Finney because yeah Gwen is younger and shorter and smaller, but Robin is not prepared to be on her bad side
Robin’s uncle lets him take his truck to the drive ins on weekends, which is dark and secluded and if they see a scary movie, Finney will practically be in his lap the whole time
he arrives at the Blake house to pick up his boyfriend and is shocked and confused for Gwen to climb in the truck beside Finney
Finney is just like ‘Gwen wants to see this movie too, so I invited her’
Robin is a good boyfriend and he does actually like Gwen, so of course he has no problem with it, even if his plans are ruined.
Part way through the movie, Robin slips her some money and tells her to go get some snacks
And Gwen is smart and says ‘why? so you can be alone with my brother and make out?’
And Robin, completely serious, saying ‘yes, so make sure you take your time because you don’t want to see this’
Finney is just a flustered mess
Yeah, Robin is Finney’s boyfriend, but the match to his BFF bracelet belongs to Gwen
Gwen starts dating a boy and swooning over him, so Finney gives his best big brother talk of ‘if you hurt her, I will be very disappointed in you and I will make you feel bad’
And Robin’s like ‘good job, babe, you really scared that dude’
But when Finney’s back is turned, Robin is grabbing the guys shirt and promising to break his teeth if he ever hurts Gwen.
Way more invested in Gwen’s stories about the girls in her class and her bitch teacher and how dumb boys are than Finney is. Finney listens because he loves his sister and wants her to have a safe place to talk, but Robin listens because he loves girl talk and there’s no way Susie actually made out with Bobby while she was dating Jack, omg, what happened after that???
Gwen making up total lies to get out of the house when Robin comes over because she’s a good wingwoman and lets them have alone time
Braid twins as Finney makes dinner for all of them.
Teaching Gwen one on one how to do a round house kick so she can use her fists and rocks and feet
(does the same thing with Finn, but it takes way longer because Robin keeps flirting with him)
Also teaches Gwen how to swear in Spanish after she gets detention for the 12000th time for calling her teacher a fuckwad
Gwen helps Robin plan out dates. She points out the restaurants Finney wants to try and the new rocket launcher he’s been eyeing and the new rom com he hasn’t seen yet and if they go to the park at night, Finney will be able to point out the constellations as they hold hands under the stars
Robin is Gwen’s platonic boyfriend, the end.
Might turn this into a fluffy fic after I’m done with my angsty fic

Hey! I’ve been reading all your Black Phone contents and they are so awesome!
If you’re currently taking requests, may I ask if you have any HC’s for first dates or just date ideas between Finney/Robin or Vance/Bruce?
Hey, thank you so much for enjoying my stuff!!!
Finbin/Robinney/Rinney
Robin is the one to ask Finney out and while Robin wants to go see a scary movie at the drive ins, he is nervous and plans the whole date around what Finn would want to do
Of course they go to the planetarium, which is in the next town over, so Robin begs his uncle to let them borrow the truck
Of course his uncle lets him, he's gotta be a good wingman for his nephew
Robin wears his nicest bandana and graphic tee while he picks up Finney, who's wearing a polo shirt with a collar and Gwen tried to do his hair
They stop for gas and snacks, having a whole meal out of bags of chips and candy bars, but also the sandwiches Finney was smart enough to pack for them
They lay back in the planetarium and watch the show, Finney adding extra information about the planets and stars because he knows way more than the employees
Robin reaches for his hand in the dark and Finney squeezes his fingers with every new constellation lit up
Finney is upset by the limited information that's given during the planetarium exhibits. As they leave and drive back, it's beginning to get dark, so he makes Robin pull over into a field.
They lay on the hood of the car, Finn's jacket bunched up behind their heads, as Finn points up at the sky.
"So everyone thinks the Big Dipper is a constellation, but it's actually an asterism, but it's apart of the Ursa Major constellation, which is the third largest constellation and pictured on the Alaskan flag. Claudius Ptolemy was the first astronomer to write about it in..."
Robin loves Finn's voice, but would probably fall asleep if his heart wasn't racing from the two of them laying so close.
Finn is shy and nervous, so when Robin asks to kiss him under the stars, he stutters that he wants to wait until their second date
(Robin has already planned their second date at the drive ins, Friday the 13th Part III, fun enough for them both to enjoy, but scary enough for Finn to huddle into his side the whole time.)
Brance
They didn't really have a first date, but their routines have always been going out after Bruce's baseball games.
But like, after Bruce has his post-game meeting with his teammates, which Vance used to hang out for, but they're soooo boring and he can't.
Instead, Vance cheers in the field with Amy, hollering each time Bruce so much as takes a step.
But, he doesn't like to rush to Bruce after each game. There are too many people crowding the teams to congratulate them at the end.
So Vance sneaks away, like he always does, and heads to the arcade to wait for Bruce to talk to his teammates, which is also a nice break for Vance. It makes him uncomfortable to be in such an open spot with so much noise, sitting still for so long, all these strangers around him. Getting to play pinball in between is like his recharge period.
Bruce comes to find him a short while later, already changed out of his uniform, but still energized from his game.
Vance likes routines, so it's the same thing each week. They go for milkshakes across the street (strawberry for Bruce, peanut butter and chocolate for Vance)
The young waitresses there used to bat their eyes at Bruce, smile at him for too long, up until Vance got fed up and pulled him across the table to kiss him, spilling their milkshakes onto the floor.
No one flirts with Bruce in there anymore.
After, they browse the comic shop down the road. Bruce flips through their baseball cards while Vance picks up a new comic (and sometimes pays for it if he feels like it).
On nights where Mr. and Mrs. Yamada are gone, Vance stays for dinner. Amy is a great cook for the three of them. Bruce's parents... tolerate Vance, but he doesn't like all the people around. He's happy with Bruce and okay with Amy, but too much more stresses him out.
The three of them end the day by doing their homework together, though Bruce has to push for Amy and Vance to do it. After Amy has had Bruce proof read her English paper, she slips off to her room, giving them privacy.
Vance begrudgingly finishes his homework because they get to relax on the couch after, his head in Bruce's lap as the television drones on in the background.

Mr. Johnson, pointing at a graffiti on the wall: “Perhaps you can tell me the meaning of this masterpiece? ‘RA loves FB’? What could this possibly stand for?
Robin: “Well...I think someone named Ra loves...Fresh Bread?”
Mr. Johnson, sighing: “Would you like to take another shot at that, Mr. Arellano?”
Robin: “No, that was the best I could do. See you in detention?”
Mr. Johnson: “Yes, it seems unavoidable.”

Headcanon of everyone's reaction to Drakky? (Let's just assume that everyone's friends already)
I am the worst responder every because this has been in my inbox for a month and a half, I'm so sorry.
This is a reference to my TBP Character Head Canons which mentions Vance having a pet snake.
Bruce is a little nervous, but wants to impress Vance and picks Drakky up like it's no big deal.
He has the warmest hands of the group and Drakky very much likes to fall asleep in them.
(Vance is definitely impressed.)
Billy will hesitantly pet his back and oooh over how silky his scales are.
He tries to offer Drakky bits of the meat from his sandwich and tries to not be offended when Drakky turns away
Robin thought he'd be more like the snakes from Sssssss (1973) and is a little bummed out to see he's docile
Like Bruce though, Robin picks Drakky up to impress someone and he grins when Finn looks at him in awe
Finney will only hold Drakky if Robin places him in his hands and stands close
He doesn't sneeze when holding Drakky, which is a win for allergy-ridden Finney
Griffin is way too excited to watch Drakky eat a mouse and begs Vance to let him watch
Will bring small bugs and drop them in the cage when no one is looking in the hopes that Drakky will eat them
Gwen catches on and sneaks in with Griffin to watch him react to the spider she drops in
She has no problem holding Drakky and goes on to ask her dad for a snake
Donna was the one who helped Vance set up the cage. She helped him understand the importance of temperature and light and proper bedding.
She considers herself to be an aunt to him and accompanies Vance to the pet store to ensure he buys the right bulbs and water dishes when they need to be replaced.
Donna is not interested in holding Drakky, but she waves and blows kisses whenever she leaves.

I read pt 6 of Good Boy. Poor Finney. That chapter was so nauseating :( Are you gonna follow canon and have Grabber die still? I feel like after this, Finney’s going to harbor so much more rage and pain in his murdering arm. I lowkey want Grabber's death to be even worse than the movie lmao
Warnings for a discussion of a film/short story called The Black Phone, which deals with a young boy being abducted and abused by a much older man. This response discusses the abuse toward the young boy.
*For context, check out my Black Phone fic*
So I can't spoil anything of course!
I also don't actually have an ending decided on yet, whoops. But I do have an ending that I'm leaning toward. I think it is happy-ish, but it's not as happy as the film.
Finney's emotions are becoming more painful than wrathful. He's growing to hate himself and blame himself. This boy is going through a lot of trauma and he's living a life of comfort now. He thinks he's brought these horrible things on himself because he's willing to play along for food and a proper bed and, you know, not being killed
Personally, I think the Grabber should have been left alive to rot in prison or, even better, let the families of the victims get their hands on him. While Finney killing the Grabber is fantastic and so worth the wait, I think it leaves the families of the other boys kind of...unresolved? I feel like they'll never have closure.
We know Bruce has two parents and a little sister. Robin has an uncle. Vance has his friend who played pinball with him. Griffin had a dog. Billy probably made friends along his paper route. There are so many more people affected by these disappearances besides just Gwen and Terrence (the father).
But I do potentially have a fluffy/angsty Robin and Finney piece after this that deals with Robin's trauma and Finney being a good boyfriend.
