i was considering team 7 dynamics and going into it, minato & kakashi both assume the issues will be a sasuke-naruto thing. they annoy each other, and naruto considers sasuke a romantic rival and will actively pick fights with him, and sasuke is ready and willing to escalate those fights. minato & kakashi knows naruto likes sakura and sakura likes sasuke (because naruto won't shut up about it), but i don't think they've considered sakura's role in the dynamic beyond "idk, maybe she'll act weird around him"

i think a lot of sakura's canon annoyances with naruto were organic (as in, she just found him annoying, regardless of any social cues about how he was Bad News she was additionally picking up). aside from that one awful comment she made to sasuke, the only times we see sakura being "mean" to naruto are after he's been obnoxious to/around her. she tells him off for trying to prank kakashi because she's a teacher's pet, but she ALSO privately thinks this is funny. we also see multiple instances in part 1 of her actively trying to protect him. in the manga, she tackles naruto out of the way to save him from zabuza. she is ready and willing to tank her own promotion to chunin and sasuke's in order to protect naruto's dream of being hokage (she's told they can't retake the chunin exams if they fail the written test, but they CAN retake if they drop out, and even though she's confident she will pass, she starts to raise her hand to drop out so NARUTO will get a second shot). she gets beat up in the forest of death trying to protect naruto (and sasuke) and then afterwards attempts to protect naruto emotionally by telling him she cut her hair because she "felt like a change" and not explaining what happened (i don't think not telling him is a good call, but i do think she did it because she wanted to protect him). i think her awful comment about naruto not having parents was maybe something she felt was socially normal/acceptable to say because everyone did hate naruto, which was why she thoughtlessly blabbed it to sasuke. she'd maybe even heard other people saying similar things and thought this was just how she's supposed to think about him. but i don't think she ever truly hated him; she just found him kind of annoying

the point of all this is that i don't think sakura dislikes naruto the way some people write her to. but she doesn't like him hitting on her, and she doesn't like when he does crude stuff around her.

so, given that, now imagine a situation where there's not random society-wide shunning of naruto. he's still loud and obnoxious, so i think sakura would find him grating even if she secretly thinks some of his pranks are funny. she doesn't even consider returning his crush. that is not on the table for her. she still likes sasuke. she still breaks up with ino because i maintain that that was an act of sakura trying to make herself an independent agent from ino and not ino's sidekick. but. but. she has fewer overall problems with naruto. naruto is the class clown but he's not a pariah; he's the hokage's kid and he has social clout

so maybe. consider this. sakura does not return naruto's crush, but his attention is now sort of fun and exciting. she's twelve, after all-- this is new to her, and she's feeling out what she likes and she's not necessarily mature or emotionally aware enough to not be a huge brat. it's fun when naruto brings her flowers and she gets to turn him down in front of other people. it's fun that everyone knows the hokage's son is in love with her, and that she doesn't have to love him back to keep this attention on her.

it is extremely fun when naruto sees her sighing over sasuke and then goes to fight him and then sasuke escalates.

kakashi gets his team and is told there might be some typical twelve year old crush drama, but sakura's personality is predicted to balance out naruto and sasuke's tendency towards fist fights.

and then kakashi watches her intentionally goad them into a fight and then fucking preen and he's like. oh. oh no.

tsunade. my best friend in the whole wide world. i knew i was going to love her before she showed up and i was completely and entirely vindicated shes an icon shes a legend she is the moment. theres not a single thing i dont love about her shes seriously one of the greatest characters of all time in any media ever everybody WISHES they had tsunade. shes like srsly so important to me and like okay the thing with a lot of "feminist" characters in a lot of media/fandom is that people assume that in order to make a feminist female character she has to be #feminism #girlboss #queen etc and cant lose at anything and Totally Owns The Boys With GIRL POWER ! but tsunade sucks at gambling and summons a giant slug (which im aware comes from the story she & jiraiya & orochimaru come from but in any other media she'd get something traditionally Badass tm like a wolf or something but no she gets a GIANT SLUG) and is more than happy to throw hands with an annoying 12 year old and gets drunk on the regular and has an obscene amount of debt on her hands and her pet is a pig but is absolutely able to hold her own and gets to be hokage and do cool and epic things and is so so so everything all of the time. im srsly obsessed with her relationship with jiraiya and orochimaru like you already know this but it genuinely kind of makes me ill that in the infinite tsukuyomi despite everything he's done orochimaru is literally. HES THERE. HES THEREEEEE like srsly what if we all blew up and died. huh

her relationship with sakura is also so so good and it actually kills me we didnt get to see it explored more because like pre-timeskip sakura doesnt really have a lot of confidence and doesnt really feel like she can contribute that much because shes next to three insane powerhouses who were kind of just born like that but after spending two years with tsunade and being able to come into her own shes much much more confident and outspoken and like its very clearly tsunade's influence that got her to that point and theyre so important to me im so fr. and of course tsunades relationship w naruto is also so insanely eveyrthing as well hes litearlly her special little boy like because he mouths off to her all the time but also clearly respects her so so much and she yells at him for being a brat but also clearly does enjoy their back and forths and SHES SO EVERYTHINGGGG its seriously . the situation is dire. shes so everything to me.

LOL <- most passive aggressive lol in the history of lols. literally everybody ever is so wrong about sakura and the situation is actively dire its either "shes a bitch and annoying and a STUPID GIRL for [xyz stupid reason]" or "well im going to FIX sakura by making her a cardboard cutout #girlboss with three personality traits i think are generically cool on there and completely eviscerating her canonical personality and relationships because um well shes too annoying/stupid/useless/girly/whatever" its not even fine. the situation is dire. every time somebody complains about sakura i become further cemented in my opinion that she's never done anything wrong in her life ever. but the complaining aside shes srsly so important shes so good. i love her so much. like we've already talked about this a bit but it makes me srsly crazy insane her sense of responsibility for things that arent her fault (see trying to kill sasuke at the bridge) and i love her easily irritable nature and how much she cares like her fake confession to naruto is srsly biblical sakura moment and of course speaking of her relationship to naruto is seriously ITS SOOOO GOOODDDDDD like they are srsly best friends in the whole world and its so sickening theyre so cute and so good and so important like the progression from "the kid who everybody hates is obsessed with me and i need him to knock it off Now" to "my best friend whose chest i would cut open to massage his heart just to keep him alive" IS SERIOUSLY CRAZY INSANEEEEEEEEE ITS SO GOOD........... ITS SO EVERYTHING.............. ITS SO SO SO IMPORTANT. TO ME. and its honestly devastating kishimoto didnt give her and kakashi more scenes together if im being truly honest but their relationship too is soooooo soooo so cutiepie shes literally his special little girl............. anyways sakura i love you i love you so much sorry i wouldve probably typed more but ive been running around since 3:30 am and im about to crash. if im being real

“This one barely goes out of her laboratory. I swear to god she smells like formaline.”

“He smells like the dust and cobwebs in the library. I cannot even pronounce what he’s doing – archi…something. I just know he handles lots of old papers and books. B-o-r-i-n-g.”

“So anyway, Haruno Sakura meet Uchiha Sasuke.”

This was her one free day in her experiment period week, but she needed to steam off for a night and so she allowed her friend to tug her along for a chill night drink. What Sakura didn’t expect was to socialize with a small group of people in their year and to suffer the cold indifference of the guy in front of her.

To her another surprise, he held out a hand to her. “Hello there.” She took it, slightly conscious whether she used her formaline-cancelling hand lotion. A brief and firm shake and he quicky turned away.

“Sasuke finally speaks.”

“That hello sounded a little spicier.”

“Oh my, that hand holding definitely had some electricity.”

The cajoling and teasing finally stopped when the first round of beers came in. Local university gossip was the go-to conversation opener, from the open secret student-teacher relationships to recent couple break-ups. It eventually led to Sasuke and his list of confessions.

“I heard you turned down Mio from fashion design department.”

“No way. I heard she was approached by Celine for a gig.”

“Really Sasuke? That makes her the fifth girl you dumped for this week alone.”

“You never actually had a girlfriend, did you?”

Sakura stared at him doe-eyed, genuinely curious of his answer. He returned her gaze and raised one brow. “I have high standards.”

Oh wow, what a douche, Sakura thought. Hoots erupted in their table but only for a few seconds. While the drinking and the exchanges went on, Sakura found herself wanting to go home early. She was bored and her neck was tired from not looking at him. Under the guise of stretching her already strained neck, she stole a glance, hoping to have a brief moment to take in all of his features and remember his face.

But he was already looking at her. His eyes went to the door of the restaurant then back to her. Bored? He mouthed.

Sakura looked at the door, knowing perfectly what he meant. She chugged her supposedly last bottle of beer and made a small gap with her thumb and index finger. He caught her signal and started to stand up. Their group was tipsy enough not to notice their sudden movements as they shuffled out of the door.

She halted after a few steps, Sasuke’s figure already paces in front of her, wondering whether she should say goodbye or just walk towards the opposite direction back to her apartment. She didn’t think too much of it and quickly chose the latter.

She had to get ice cream first though, a sugar rush to help jolt her senses awake. She was choosing between chocolate and strawberry when a large figure stood beside her.

“A vanilla one, please,” Sasuke said, looking smug with his hands both in his pockets. “Your treat.”

Sakura felt weirded out by the fact that he actively kept on engaging her. His reputation preceded him, but she decided to humor him for tonight. “So library science and you’re an archivist.”

“Intern archivist actually. So you actually know me.” There was arrogance in his voice that made Sakura almost choke on her ice cream.

“Process of elimination. There is no male major in our year in the History department.” She glanced at him and saw that smug look slowly transition into a slight flush of embarrassment. Cute.

“And what if it was a hobby?” Sasuke fiddled with his still unopened vanilla ice cream.

“There was a job posting in the bulletin specifically calling for Library Science students.” Their feet led them to the park still bustling with university night life and settled on a bench under the canopy of a fully bloomed dogwood tree. “See, I’m not your admirer.”

“Well, that’s a downer,” he smirked.

They talked like that for a while, fleetingly exploring related topics to their degree programs, the usual prominent teachers, the busy schedules, until Sakura finished her chocolate and strawberry popsicles. It was on her way home, finally this time, that she realized he never ate his ice cream.

She next saw him on their building’s rooftop with a group of friends, a piece of unsmoked cigarette in between his fingers. He quickly met her eyes, did a brief nod, and looked away. She inadvertently expected more than that but she wasn’t here for a smoke break, and it wasn’t her intention to take it further. She was here for a quick getaway from her microscope and to appreciate the city view dotted with the flowers of spring.

He kept glancing her way, however. He would be in the middle of a conversation and his eyes would stray to her, and she would catch it in her periphery, trying not to notice it. She got tired after a few repetitions of this, and the next time he glanced, she caught his gaze.

Stop it, she mouthed.

I’m bored, he mouthed back. Walk with me. His fingers mimicked the gesture, his fingers walking in the air.

She put her hands together and slightly bowed in apology. Next time, she winked at him before running back to her laboratory, a small smile painted on her lips.

It became like this for the next few weeks; they conversed through glances and awkward gestures whenever they were in public with their friends. When it was time to come home, they would walk in separate ways and meet again in the park under the same dogwood tree and they would converse for hours. It was mostly Sakura word-vomiting about her experiments while Sasuke would look at her with abandoned fascination.

“Stop doing that,” Sakura called him out one time.

“Stop doing what?” Sasuke asked, his ember eyes never leaving her face.

“You stare too much I feel like I’m melting.”

Sasuke made a small grunt and wore his hoodie over his head to mess with her more. He waved his hands on both sides of his face, and she immediately understood the reference of a horse having its blinders on. “Good because usually I’m the one being stared at.”

Sakura reached out to his hoodie and tightened the strings around his neck. “You’re hopeless.”

He leaned forward, almost touching her lips, his face still between her palms. “Hmm, maybe I am.”

Sakura moved away just as quickly as he moved into her personal space, a hot flush creeping to her cheeks. She hated this particular situation since blushing always made her look like a cherry tomato.

“Cute.” Sasuke apparently said his thoughts aloud because he was taken aback the moment she glanced back at him. “Cool, I said cool.”

She laughed this off just as he completely covered his face inside his hoodie.

She visited the basement section of the library for reference materials. Her writeup was due tomorrow and she was missing a section on historical evolution of vaccines and dosages for the viral DNA she uncovered. The small library slip in her hand, she made her way to the dimly lit rows on Biology. The shelves were twice taller than her, but there were spaces in between stacked books.

Would make it very easy to spot a ghost, Sakura chided to herself. A shadow moved along the row adjacent to the Biology section, but she dismissed this as the library staff. Her fingers traced the spines of ragged books and examined the list of recommended titles in her hand. When she raised her head, ember eyes stared back at her between the spaces of the opposite row.

Hi, Sasuke mouthed. He glanced around and seeing no one, he whispered, “Can I come over to your side?”

She found it hard to stop her grin from rising. “More eyes, the better.”

It took only a few minutes for Sasuke to find all the titles in her list, but they littered around, walking in between shelves, taking one random book and flipping its pages, stopping when they find something interesting. When heavy footfalls were heard on the stairs, Sakura inclined her head, gesturing she needed to go.

Sasuke seemed to misunderstand as he pulled her through the sleeve of her cardigan to the area further behind the room, and as the shadows grew darker, and the noise became more muted, she heard the racing beat of her heart.

Finally reaching the wall, Sasuke slumped to the floor and patted the space beside him. Sakura followed suit, consciously leaving a space between them as she was slowly becoming hyper-aware of their proximity.

“How are you faring so far? Done with the requirements?” Sasuke asked, his voice low but audible enough for her.

Sakura nodded, and after beat, rolled her eyes at him. “Shouldn’t you be out there assisting others?”

“I believe you need more immediate help.” Sasuke pulled his knees in to rest his chin on and trained his eyes on her. “Sakura.”

“Sasuke.”

The longest minute of silence hung between them, tension strung by the stare, until Sakura broke it off with her eyes shifting to the floor. “What are you doing?”

“Flirting,” he said like it’s a matter-of-fact. “This is what they usually do to me.”

“And what should I do?” She let the words roll out of her mouth, unsure why she asked, uncertain also of what he felt. She met his gaze again.

And in that moment, he just sincerely looked at her. “Flirt back.”

Sakura was done for the school year. She will be officially graduating in a month, and to celebrate, she went out with their group for a sem-ender discotheque clubbing. She was gonna shoot her shot for a one-night stand with literally anyone who had chemistry with her – haha she was just kidding. As this seemed to be the final cap-off to her university life, she went all out with her clothes Sakura-style – basically a boxy cropped tea, high waisted jeans, and old heels her best friend gave to her in pity.

This was actually her first club experience, but she was glad to be with veteran friends. The first few minutes inside a closed space with bass boosted, unfamiliar crowds, and lots of skinship made her very uncomfortable. Her only reprieve was the free-flowing drinks – ironically she can handle alcohol well. The disco lights would have made it difficult to spot faces, but she found him in the dark, on the corner directly across her group, his eyes already glued on her.

She wondered if he ever forgave her for scrambling out of his presence in the reference section last time, explicitly avoiding his request to flirt back. It seemed like she worried for nothing since Sasuke raised his glass to her and mouthed congratulations. She raised her glass back, resolving to mind her own business tonight. But he kept looking, a smirk etched on his beautiful face, urging her to meet him halfway.

She didn’t need to look for an excuse as her friends suddenly pulled her into the harmless mosh pit of friendly grinding. Sakura allowed herself to move to the beat, enjoying the bubble offered by the club to lose herself for a few seconds. But she kept glancing towards his direction, his eyes looking for her in the mass of bodies. At first, the glances were mischievous, like playing hide-and-seek, then they held gravity, heavy lidded and palpable.

Sasuke was impatient, and soon enough, at her next spin on her heels, he was right behind her, his hands hovering over her arms, seeking consent to touch. Sakura turned to face him, one part shy, other parts unnerved, and she slowly encircled her arms around his neck, her eyes a definite yes. His hands went to her waist, and he brought her closer to his embrace.

“You don’t have your hoodie though,” Sakura said, a little louder over the crooning of Carly Rae Jepsen to Gimmie Love. “Someone will definitely see you.”

Sasuke closed whatever distance was between them and brought his lips to her ears. “That’s a relief then. I want to be seen with you.”

“Simp,” Sakura teased. “You’re probably expecting a confession out of me, aren’t you?” This was a long time coming and she wanted to get it over with tonight especially when she had alcohol buzzing on her side.

“I am actually,” Sasuke said. “I was hoping to beat you to it in the library last time, but you ran away. Coward.”

“What?”

“What? Didn’t you hear me?”

“You like me.” Sakura said in realization. She edged her face away from his hold to take a good look at his embarrassed face. “Oh, you really do.”

“You could be dense sometimes, Sakura.” Sasuke poked her forehead playfully, and he was rewarded with a bubbly laughter from her.

Their friends finally noticed them and the intense skinship happening. The yells and woots started to drown out the speakers.

“That took you two long enough, huh?”

“They really waited for the end of the school year to do their big reveal.”

“As if the whole school doesn’t know already.”

“What?” Sasuke and Sakura asked in unison.

“It was the constant eyesmex.”

“Really, they do it every time with no shame. It gives me secondhand embarrassment.”

“Right? Sometimes I think I need to yell get a room.”

“Maybe they’ll get a room tonight.”

“Oh my god, shut up."

World’s Worst Best Men: Itachi x Wife!Reader

A/n: I'm not writing a summary but I have a feeling you'll like this one. Not so much romance as usual, but it is fun and I’m proud of it. 

Pairing: Itachi x Wife!Reader, Platonic Sasuke x Reader

Uchiha weddings were nothing, if not extravagant and over the top, you should know, you have had one for yourself.

Standing beside your husband of three years, the prodigy, Itachi Uchiha, you couldn't have been happier. Sasuke was getting married and you and Itachi had the most triumphant grins on your faces, both beaming gleefully.

You and Itachi had been childhood bestfriends but didn't start dating dating until late teen years. So naturally Sasuke had been an important person in your life, an amazing boy whom you had watched grow up.

The wedding had been a blast, everyone enjoying themselves to the fullest. Asuma and Kurenai were dancing along with their son in a group with Kakashi and Gai. Kakashi drunk dancing was really a sight for sore eyes.

Genma was at the bar, really vibing with one of Sakura's distant aunts while Iruka was being paired up with one of Hinata's quiet aunts by Naruto.

Minato and Kushina were standing alongside Fugake and Mikoto drinking champagne and feeling proud.Smiles of genuine happiness were on each of their faces as they felt their life goals had been achieved.

Of course all the boys were dancing alongside the Jounins' group with Sasuke in between surrounded by a wild Naruto, drunk Kiba, flustered Lee and other friends of the like.

The girls were in their own group with the bride in between surrounded by perfectionist Ino, jovial Tenten, inebriated Temari, bewildered Hinata and likewise. Ino kept straightening the flowers in the newlywed girl's hair.

This was all you could ever ask for someone as important to you as Sasuke. You, someone who never cried, almost shed a tear when Sauske said his vows. The fact he found love in his life made you really grateful to God.

After all the guest tired themselves out by uncoordinated and off beat dancing, it was time for the best man's speech or in this case, best men.

Naruto and Itachi were the two best men as they both mean the world to Sasuke. His best friend and his elder brother.

With a champagne flute in hand, Naruto started, "Putting our rivalry aside for one day, I would go so far as to call you-, this is only a once in a lifetime privilege remember Teme," He referred to Sasuke getting off track his speech, "-my best friend. Who would have thought you would get married? Howbeit to a girl?"

Everybody laughed, silently agreeing with Naruto. The atmosphere of the wedding hall was bright, beautiful and cheery. The exuberant and buoyant gathering listened with real enthusiasm.

"I don't have anything against you marrying a guy, honestly because all of us expected you to, after you broke a lot of poor girls' hearts."

Sasuke seemed really shocked at this, even his mouth fell open with widened eyes while everyone once again silently agreed. Sasuke's shock told you that he actually had never heard about this rumor before. 

God, he was a really oblivious kid.

"I know, Dobe," Naruto said referring to Sasuke's surprised expression, "I was that shocked too, when I came to know they shipped you with me nonetheless, because that was something even I wasn't aware of." Naruto and Sauke both made disgusted faces, as if on cue. The look of terror on Sasuke’s face might have led people to believe it was the most sinister thought ever.

But they did look cute together.

"But I guess they say, you aren't really best friends if they don't confuse you as homosexuals." Naruto let out a beaming grin while Sasuke gave a crooked smile. Everyone inwardly cooed at the pure expressions.

"However, there is one female I remember you crushing on, the only one in the entirety of our lives."

Sasuke had a look of horror on this face as he shook his head 'no' immediately, trying to get Naruto to shut up, specks of red in his eyes as he threatened to activate his 'Sharingan'.

"I remember you being all flustered and look at (Y/N) with heart eyes.”

Naruto's grin widened, showing his pearly whites, clearly content with Sasuke's reaction. 

Your name caught you off-guard and you were in absolute shock. People turned around to give you a not-so-subtle glance but you didn’t care. You always thought Sasuke was a shy and quiet kid who liked to keep to himself. Mikoto let out a cheer while Fugaku smiled. Itachi let out a deep-throated chuckle from beside you which caused you to turn to him, “You knew about this?”

He silently nodded with a smile on his face and you carried on, “And never even mentioned it to me? Would it have killed you to do so?”

“It wasn’t any of my business. Also, it was pretty funny.”

You lightly hit his arm and retorted, “Oh God, I don’t even know who I got married to!”

A smile still broke out on your face as you turned to Naruto once again.

“I remember once Kiba and I were hanging out and we heard a really high pitched shriek from the forest. We ran all the way inside thinking someone was in danger but it turned out to be Sasuke squealing beacuse it was (Y/N)’s birthday and she gave him a kiss on the cheek for some gift he gave her. I swear our ears started bleeding. He was so red that we thought all the tomatoes he ate finally caught up to him.”

You blinked twice, your expression blank. Then a coy smile made its way to your face. You looked over to find Sasuke as red as a cherry, not even meeting your eyes. He was definitely praying to God that looks could kill, so that Naruto would drop dead.

“I remember that back in the academy, he never let any of us touch his hair because (Y/N) ruffled it while dropping him off. So he would sit through the lessons looking like he just woke up.”

All his classmates snickered at that, recalling the fond memory, while you were amused. It was so hilarious to see such a stoic person so flabberghasted. 

“The most interesting incident that came out of all this was, and I’m totally risking my life by telling you all this. Sasuke would kill me if I even narrate it to anyone, rather announce it on the microphone at his wedding, but your best friend gets married only once. Well hopefully. If I turn up dead by the coming of dawn, it was Sasuke Uchiha everyone.”

Everyone laughed along once again while half of the people were on the edge of their seats thinking what it could possibly be. Sasuke had a puzzled expression on his face, anticipating and fearing what Naruto had up his sleeve.

“Anyways, one when we were high........ I mean drunk, he confessed of a secret love letter he wrote to (Y/N) as a tween but never sent it.”

Your eyes widened as you let out an audible gasp while the room buzzed with chortles and sniggers. Your brother-in-law crushing on you wasn’t necessary negative news but the whole event had overwhelmed you that you could not contemplate even your reaction.

Apparently, you were the only one to be surprised as all the other guests smiled knowingly and cackled. You glanced over to find Sasuke so scarlet that you wondered if the sharingan had spread to his face given that his kekkei genkai was active now.

Itachi chuckled again seeing your reaction and put an arm around your shoulder while gently squeezing. You turned to him and finaly let out a chuckle yourself, eyes still widened in disbelief.

“Am I dreaming?” you asked and shook your head.

“Seriously though, have I been that oblivious Itachi? How could I not notice this while everyone here recalls it as some keen memory?” You held your head with one hand, leaning furthermore into itachi. Your eyes flickered to see Sasuke’s eyes, boring apologetically into your own. 

One look at his chiseled face told you of his anxiety and concern. The small frown on his face saddened your heart.

Does he think I hate him? Poor baby, NO!

You weren’t offened, flattered if anything. But the spontaneity of the situation rendered you speechless.

You gave him the best smile you could muster, wiggling your eyebrows at him and blowing him a kiss from your cherry lips, and grinning again.

He visibly relaxed, shoulders now less taut, jaw a bit slackened though his face remained painted in scarlet hues. Seeing him calm down, you winked at him and turned to Naruto again, anticipating his next words.

“My only regret tonight is that I couldn’t find that letter even inside his personal diary or his deep closet. I swear it was there the last time! No worries, hope you found this speech of mine, entertaining as it is. One last toast to Sasuke though, for his new life ahead. Cheers.” 

Sasuke cooled down with each passing word, smirking triumphantly when he realised he won’t be shred of his remaining dignity anymore.

Everyone toasted together, drinking huge mouthfuls of their wines, rejoicing in Naruto’s words for Sasuke.

Itachi kissed your temple, and left you while moving to the centre of the stage, where Naruto was.

“If I may?” He asked as Naruto passed him the microphone.

“I’d like to say how proud of my baby brother to have come this far in life, as a great shinobi, an excellent son, a marvelous friend and a terific human overall.”

Everone clapped vigourously including you, while all his classmates hollered and hooted. A faint blush adorned Sasuke’s cheeks as he visibly pouted on being call ‘baby bro’.

“And I was about to give a half an hour long speech, but my wee brother’s best friend, Naruto just stole all my content. So much for the tales.” Itachi playfully sighed, all the specatators buzzed with laughter while Sasuke deadpanned.

Well, he wont forget his wedding day ever now. Everyone is dead set on embarrassing him.

“However, I do have something Naruto didn’t have.”

Everyone stilled, waiting with anticipation of what was about to come, including you. Itachi refused to rehearse his best man speech with you because he wanted to write a speech for Sasuke on his own, heartfelt and everything.

He reached inside his tuxedo’s jacket and took out an old cramped paper, yellowing a bit and you raised your eyebrows, questioningly.

Sasuke gulped.

“I have the love letter, everyone!”

Oh Wow.

Over fifteen years in the Harry Potter fandom, but I’ve had to separate that from JKR herself in the recent years.

From The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare — Nat and Kit were my first OTP. Read this book in fifth grade and was immediately loved them. Boy literally risks banishment from the colony to help prove she’s not a witch.

I love visual media, so TV, anime, and film

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

I’m not going to let tumblr dot com put me off of a particular show/book/etc. itself, but it has definitely made me think less of certain types of fans who are in a fandom. 

J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)

The...period drama fandom? More widely, the history fandom. They both create some of the most beautiful edits celebrating history and I love it. 

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

 From Avatar: The Last Airbender — It’s gotta be Prince Zuko

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. From Harry Potter — I think Ginny is a Mary Sue but I loved when she stood up for herself in Half-Blood Prince when Ron was trying to slut-shame her.

I don’t really have a main fandom but I haven’t mentioned Free! yet so let’s go with it for this one. 

1. Less Nitori because I can’t stand him.

2. More female characters! I get half the appeal is the boys, but I’d love to see a girls swim team in some capacity. 

3. More Haru and his family dynamics! Doesn’t have to be a ton, but I want to know what his relationship with his parents like, especially as an adult.

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?

Salt and the Sea - The Lumineers. “From the destruction, out of the flame. You need a villain, give me a name.” Such an Odesta song. (Finnick x Annie from the Hunger Games)

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

For The Mandalorian — A historical AU set in early 1900s New York City where Mando’s just some government agent sent to “report” on slum conditions to satisfy some housing law. He goes meaning to write up a generic report but then finds the orphaned Baby Yoda abandoned in one of the tenements. Shocked by the conditions of the slums, Mando goes from being an apathetic, middling-level bureaucrat to being an anonymous investigative journalist reporting on the corruption in the government that allows for the city’s most vulnerable citizens to live in squalor, leading the government on a search to find who within their ranks is exposing them. 

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.

Sherlock, because it just took so long for the third series to come out. I had moved on to other fandoms by the time it did. Still have fond memories of when I was active in it, though. 

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?

From Lord of the Rings — Aragorn and Legolas. This is played up a lot more in the films but I love it. 

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

For Lord of the Rings — Boromir definitely taught Faramir swordplay when they were little kids since their father didn’t want to. 

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

From Hanyou no Yashahime — Rin made the first move. Sesshomaru would be way too clueless to even know how to go about it. 

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

From Pirates of the Caribbean — James Norrington: Commodore in the Royal Navy during the 18th century, must I explain any further? Cool, calm, and collected on the job while looking v good while he does it but a nervous wreck in front of the woman he fancies. Tell me that’s not straight out of Austen.

From Star Wars (OT) — Luke Skywalker: An unapologetically good person in a crapsack world, doing his best to bring light into the world. A classic hero archetype who grows out of his naïveté to become a cunning—but still benevolent—Jedi. 

From Prince of Tennis — Yukimura Seiichi: His duality is *chef’s kiss*. Super scary and in charge on the court, gentle sweet boy who loves art and culture off the court. He struggled for so long but was able to overcome it all through his hard work and willpower.

Bonus favorite, because I couldn’t resist...

From Band of Brothers — Doc Roe: He’s doing the MOST for his guys but he really just needs a hug. Plus he’s got the accent.

From Little Women — Jo March, especially as portrayed by Saoirse Ronan in the 2019 adaptation. Writer, holds grudges, opinionated, stubborn, eschewed “girliness” in her youth but is more open to it and romanticism as an adult.

I’ve gotten to the point where even the hint of a love triangle tests my patience.

I love fandom so much. I’m sort of facetious about being obsessed with people who aren’t real on my other social media accounts, but in all seriousness, being able to escape the real world to get excited over characters and relationships that face their own struggles, triumphs, and emotions is such a gift. So often they speak so powerfully on the human experience—How can you read, or watch, any of Tolkien’s work and not be moved by what he has to say about humanity and the power of good? Even if the stories are fictional, the messages they impart about life aren’t, which is what I love so much about them.

a song that reminds me of them: so, so many but Wanted by OneRepublic comes to mind. It's a song about needing to feel like you're wanted and that you make a difference in others' life. It's also a song about wanting to move beyond the grief of what-ifs and loss in general. I think that really resonates for Ino because she is someone that not only feels like she must be valuable and useful but she also needs validation that she is that way--- that people want her around and that she's someone people desire. I also think that as she gets older s

what they smell like: in a genral sense, she always has an underyling smell of various flowers and occasionally fresh soil if she's been working hands-on at her shop that day. I do feel like she definitely expreiments with different types of perfumes so you may notice a different one on any given day but she likes to go for stuff that has a vanilla scent to it.

an otp: I will die on my shikaino hill

a notp: back in the day it would've probably been saiino but they're like the only reasonable couple within recent canon so I'm just like 'well, they're cute now i guess' Otherwise (in fanon at least), I'm at a point that I can be open to most ships within the age group

favorite platonic/familial relationships: InoShikaCho as a trio. I love that they have that bond with them. It's one of my favorite parts of Naruto in general. Also, Sakura and Ino because even if Canon doesn't properly demonstrate their friendship (or at least show it beyond the banter) within shippuden/as adults I know that they had a solid foundation and they genuinely want the absolute best for each other.

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: That she actually loved Sasuke romantically. She absolutely had a crush on Sasuke, but I don't think it went beyond that and I really think that her crush on Sasuke ended in part 1. No one really had enough history (by that I mean real moments of personal bonding beyond and not just knowing each other as children) with Sasuke besides Team 7 to develop such an attachment like that. I believe that when she cried over having to kill Sasuke, it was because he was someone that they had grown up with and it hurt her to think about killing someone that she felt was part of their age group and part of their village. If you think about it, they all knew Sasuke longer than he had been gone so even if they had issue with him and his choices, he was still someone they knew. When she thought about Sasuke in the war, I think it was like a bittersweet retrospection upon what she had believed to be a positive love up until 13, but I felt it was her viewing as a failed understanding of what the Yamanakas were all about and that's why her dad felt the need to clarify that he meant how she cared and loved her friends and family in general. Tbh, I suppose this could be taken as a disagreement with canon as well if you felt that kishi was meaning that but I, personally, really never saw it that way.

the position they sleep in: Depends, but I think often you'd find Ino clutching a pillow or someone else close to her because she deals with a lot of intense dreams and doing so makes her feel comfort. I feel like she does have tendecy to sleep in a haphazard state when completely exhausted though.

my favorite outfit they’ve ever worn: Her genin outfit is so, so cute and has nice little details and I wish they would've incorporated more of it into her shippuden/adult outfits.

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Hmm, this was a tough one, because frankly both of them are straight-up pretty weird looking. I know in canon Gaara has a bunch of Suna ladies that crush on him, but you’ll notice it’s only Suna ladies (and Fuu) which leads me to the conclusion that Sunan aesthetics are less about looks and more about power. Power = attractive, which is why Gaara seems to attract a flock of lady admirers, in my opinion. ‘Cause listen, the dude looks like he hasn’t slept more than a few hours in the past ten years, and he’s the only person I’ve ever seen who managed to make himself look worse by running a comb through his hair. Plus he smiles in a really unnerving way (Have y’all seen that photo of all the Kage from Boruto where Gaara’s making the grimace emoji expression? That’s what I’m talking about). 

Anyways, now that I’ve just dissed Gaara’s looks really hard, let’s talk about physical attraction. I don’t see Gaara as being particularly invested in his partner’s looks overall; he just doesn’t strike me as the type. I think he likes Lee because Lee is kind to him, and doesn’t hold a grudge, and is strong. I think he likes that Lee is in many ways his equal and that he doesn’t have to worry about protecting Lee (his thoughts on the relative vulnerability of his partner compared to himself comes up a bit in the Gaara Hiden light novel) ... at least, he doesn’t have to worry about protecting Lee from anyone but Lee’s own self-destructive impulses, for the most part. Physically, I think he would then be attracted to Lee’s body/muscles, because that’s a physical representation of his strength. Also I think Lee’s turtle mouth is cute, so let’s go with the little turtle mouth as well. 

Of the two of them, Lee is definitely the more physically oriented and probably finds a lot of things attractive about Gaara, although as I’ve already established, I hc that Gaara is a straight up little sand gremlin in physical appearance. But I think the feature that would sell him would be Gaara’s eyes. Not because they’re unique or because of the tanuki marks or anything, but because I think when he first starts learning to read Gaara’s expressions, he conveys everything in his eyes. The rest of his face is relatively impassive and inexpressive, so as they’re getting to know each other I think Lee spends a lot of time staring at Gaara’s eyes to try and figure out what he’s thinking and feeling. And that probably grows into something of a favoritism.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

Oof, okay, this is gonna be a somewhat long one because they each have like three people who are the most important in their lives. 

So, for Gaara:

Kankuro thinks Lee is weird as hell, but ultimately well-meaning. He respects a guy who lulls you into a false sense of security by looking like an animated green bean and then straight up clocks you in the face so hard you shit your pants. I do think him and Lee butt heads on occasion, because they’re both stubborn as hell and Kankuro’s a bit of a bastard while Lee’s very noble, so they don’t have very well aligned values. And neither of them is willing to back down from a fight. So there are probably some family dinners where Kankuro gets this close to flipping a table because he can’t believe how stupid Lee is being about something, Gaara why do you even put up with this dude? But there’s definitely a respect there, and Lee is a genuinely nice guy, so Kankuro probably takes advantage of that a little bit (”Lee, can you run to the store and get me...” and Lee of course says yes even though Kankuro has two perfectly functional legs). 

Temari initially doesn’t trust Lee. I don’t think she believes at first that Lee isn’t playing the long con and going after Gaara for revenge. It takes her a long time to realize that, no, Lee really is just like that and that he genuinely doesn’t hold a grudge at all. She’s also the most likely to get worked up about the political implications and be scared for how this might affect Gaara’s standing. I think Shikamaru probably sells her on it a bit, because he’s known Lee for longer. And I think seeing how happy Lee makes her brother and how Lee makes Gaara come out of his shell really seals the deal for her. 

Naruto doesn’t get it, but he’s supportive. You know that meme that’s like “he’s not quite there but he’s got the spirit”? That’s Naruto’s approach to basically anyone’s relationship. He doesn’t have any room to judge anyway; his romantic life is a complete shitshow. And Naruto’s pretty guileless so I doubt he really even thinks through any of the potential pitfalls in their relationship. Gaara tells him and he goes “Oh okay, cool!” and then back to talking about Sasuke. 

As for Lee,

Gai does not trust Gaara at all after he caught him trying to kill Lee in the hospital room. I think that’s probably something he never even brought up to Lee, because he wanted Lee to focus on his recovery. So when Lee ends up bringing up that he and Gaara are dating, Gai kind of pales and goes quiet for a minute and then tells Lee very seriously, “He tried to kill you.” And Lee is probably like, “Haha, I know but that was in a match! Anyone could have killed anyone!” and then Gai has to drop the bad news that no, it wasn’t just during the match. Ultimately though he probably gives Gaara a very stern “what are your intentions with my precious student” speech (that Gaara mostly doesn’t understand because it’s so flowery), but is convinced enough by Gaara’s answers that he gives him a big snotty, tear-filled hug. 

Tenten has kind of the same wariness around Gaara initially as Gai does, but she’s much slower to warm up. She sees herself as Lee and Gai’s common sense/”angel on their shoulder” and she doesn’t necessarily believe that Lee has his own best interests at heart. She probably thinks at first blush that Lee is just overcome with infatuation like he was with Sakura or any other spur-of-the-moment crush that he may have, and definitely thinks Lee is going to get hurt. She absolutely threatens Gaara, more than once, even though she wouldn’t stand a chance against him in a match. In my opinion would be the last of Team Gai to come around. She’s probably the person on the morning of Lee’s wedding straightening his shiny orange bow tie and asking him if he’s sure he wants to go through with it. 

Neji (who is alive, damnit) also doesn’t trust Gaara, but he has his own emotional walls up about caring for Lee. So on the surface he tells himself “what do I care, that’s Lee’s bad decision to make and I’m not responsible if he gets hurt”, but he is definitely on edge and wary whenever he sees them together. I think he and Gaara are more similar in personality though, in the sense that both of them have trauma that has made them emotionally closed-off, and Neji recognizes something of himself in Gaara and is probably the first person to actually believe that Gaara means what he says and doesn’t have bad intentions. He sees himself in that inability to express one’s feelings properly in a way that convinces others that you’re genuine, and he probably is the one to bring Gai around in the end.

hi!! I was thinking about LeeSaku, and wanted to know, what are your thoughts on this ship? do you like it, does it work, etc?

LeeSaku is a ship that was unfortunately all but dropped in the canon, much like our boy Lee himself! And also much like Lee, it was cute with a lot of potential and could have been explored for some interesting depth and had some cool setup, even if it didn’t go anywhere!

I like it, I think it could work, and I’ll put my thoughts under a cut for you!

I thought that Lee getting a crush on Sakura after she shows how smart and able to see through genjutsu she is. Lee recognizes ability and he was absolutely blown away. He came on strong and didn’t mince his words, but then, Sakura came onto Sasuke even stronger and pushier, so that’s not an insult to his character.

And Lee jumping in to protect Sakura, putting himself at risk and more-or-less handicapping himself because protecting a stationary target is a huge liability in a fight. It definitely demonstrated that Lee was serious about his desire to be there for Sakura and shine in her eyes, and Sakura recognizing that and thanking him for it was a very sweet, very endearing moment for her. When she smiled and said that he inspired her, all beat up but earnest, and he cried tears of joy because that’s what he wanted to hear… 

Sakura and Lee both represent human weakness and they both have expressed that they feel inferior to their teammate(s) in some way, but they’re pretty opposite in some key aspects.

Lee had nothing to begin with, no skills. Even his taijutsu was bad, and no one except Gai ever expressed any belief in his potential. Despite that, Lee had a clear goal and worked tirelessly for it. Lee’s been a hard worker that almost no one saw any potential or talent in from day one of ninja kindergarten. He’s built up his own confidence and measures his self-worth against his growth, to the point of being self-destructive and having no survival instinct.

Sakura, on the other hand, was very complacent throughout Part 1 and before it, something she herself admitted. She’s often praised by others for being very smart, but she’s admittedly lazy with her training and isn’t motivated enough to actively train tooth and nail to improve herself until the end of Part 1. She spends a lot of time on battlefields playing it safe and not pursuing a specialty.

They both gain a lot of respect and care for each other during the chunin exams, and they both felt extremely disappointed in themselves and inferior to their peers after those chunin exams ended.

Sakura visits and watches over Lee in the hospital a lot, of her own accord. She sees how hard he works, even when he’s in so much pain and faced more humiliating defeat than she did. She’s inspired by his passion and concerned for his lack of self-preservation. After the chunin exams, she’s very sweet to Lee and open about how much she likes him, and he’s one of the characters that she’s nicest to.

She’s ecstatic to see him at the final round in the crowd, she cries and laments when she sees him pushing himself at the hospital, and she is there to try to comfort him during those times.

In the Sasuke Retrieval Arc shortly thereafter, Lee is the one who comforts and reassures a sobbing Sakura, when she’s worried about Sasuke. He’s clearly not doing this to curry romantic favor, since this is him cheering on Naruto’s mission to retrieve Sasuke. He just genuinely wants to reassure her and be there for her, just like she does for him.

I think Sakura being moved and inspired by how hard Lee tries and how proactive he is in his own training and goals  is really cool. And Sakura going on to become a medical ninja training under the woman who worked tirelessly to save Lee’s life opens a lot of potential, if you want to explore those two years where Sakura’s teammates were gone. Lee working through his rehabilitation and getting back on his feet, Sakura buckling down and deciding to be proactive and hard-working and move forward with a goal now. Sakura remembering how badly Lee was injuring and being even more motivated so that next time one her her loved ones gets hurt, she’ll be able to alleviate their pain.

Them crossing paths and encouraging each other often during the time skip is a really fun idea to think about, I think!

They could have become a really cool taijutsu battle couple.

Sakura was on time for her meeting with Professor Kakashi (ofc) and she got along with this Cyndaquil instantly. He was a cute little thing, rather timid, but very sweet and he had the most precious smile. She adored him

He doesn’t like being in his Pokéball very much, so Sakura carried him a lot (or he sat on her shoulder/head) when he was little. Now that he’s 6 feet tall as a Typhlosion, he likes having their positions reversed! He lets her ride on his back when he’s on all fours. He feels like he’s returning the favor, it makes him feel all proud. Like heh. All these other humans walking by don’t have a steed. But my Sakura does

She thinks it’s kind of embarrassing being the only one on a Pokémon’s back, especially when they’re in the city, but she indulges him every now and then.

She and this Pidgey used to drive each other up the wall. 

Honestly Sakura doesn’t know how they even became friends. They just got sucked up into a little side-adventure together (as one inevitably does while on their Pokémon journey??) and bonded through that

Kind of like her relationship with Ino, she and Pidgey get along better as they each mature. They definitely have a bit of a back-and-forth going on (even when she’s a Pidgeot), but also... if someone insults Sakura in front of her, she’s not gonna take that lying down. Only she can disrespect her trainer like that lmao

Vileplume

Ever since he was an Oddish he’s been very high-energy but also SO clumsy. You’ll never see him walk anywhere, he’s always going at least at a brisk jog. He’ll trip without doing anything to catch his fall, then immediately get up and run off again. He’s sturdy

He turned into a complete bull in a china shop when he evolved into Vileplume, though. His running circles around her was fine when he was an Oddish or Gloom, but that huge flower on his head increased his destructive power exponentially. 

He does feel bad about it though, so Sakura tries not to be too harsh on him.

His intensity dampens a bit with age (and because that flower is so heavy it makes it harder to move around so much), but it’s still there. Just comes out at different times, mostly during training and battles.

Marowak

Cubone is called the Lonely Pokémon because they, as a species, seem to share a tragic past. So when Sakura found a baby Cubone crying at night all by itself, it awakened every single mom instinct she had in her lol 

She sent her (then) Pidgeotto out to protect Cubone from a circling Mandibuzz, it was pretty heroic tbh.

From then on, whenever Cubone was feeling lonely, Sakura would stay up to comfort her and wouldn’t go to sleep herself until bby Cubone was dozing soundly in her arms.

She has a rather serious personality, but as time goes on, she opens up more around Team 7.

She seems cool and collected at first, but she has a bit of an impulsive streak. It’s mostly harmless. An “I’m gonna hit this rock with my bone until it breaks” sort of thing. Sakura’s always just like... ok go at it I guess

Lapras

Lapras is the unproblematic fave. So kind, so gentle, so altruistic

She can be little sassy at times, but it’s easy to forgive when she’s literally an angel in every other way. Most of the time it’s just funny. Like maybe a kid is petting her way too hard so she sprays him a bit with a Water Gun. Nowhere near powerful enough to be painful, just enough to make it clear that that was a no-no

Sakura tried putting accessories on all her Pokémon, but Lapras is the only one of hers that genuinely enjoys wearing them, so Sakura buys her ribbons and necklaces and such. 

Lapras’s favorite is a dainty white pearl necklace. Sometimes Sakura will put it on her head instead of around her neck, it’s very regal looking

Also, she’s shiny. And Sakura lowkey loves gloating about it. Please compliment her Lapras

Mamoswine

She seems like she has a calm temperament at first, but she can be moody and defensive at times about her space or food.

She’s very tactile. She was used to being cuddled or held when she was small, so once she’s a Mamoswine she enjoys giving people/Pokémon rides on her back, or letting people sit in the curve of her tusks. She just enjoys the contact

She’s always trying to get people to share their food with her, especially if it’s a very fragrant dish. The squad will be eating a nice lunch together and this Swinub would suddenly hop up on the table/chair and stare at someone until they let her have a bite. Sakura’s like no have some manners they need to offer first.

She quickly learned that Naruto always caves eventually, even though he complains. Sakura will cave sometimes, but only if she thinks it’d be healthy for her. Sasuke never has caved, probably never will

Once she’s a Mamoswine she has to just.. ominously stare at people from outside the window. It’s kind of a problem now that she has a much more intimidating face lmao. You know Naruto’s sweating heavy lmao... Mamoswine’s demanding glare coming from one side, Sakura’s “Do. Not. Yield.” glare from the other
