SCARFOLK COUNCIL (2012)
Scarfolk, conceived by artist and writer Richard Littler in 2012, is a fictional dystopian town frozen in the 1970s. Littler's satirical project explores the dark side of nostalgia and critiques authoritarian aspects of British culture. The Scarfolk Council, depicted as the governing authority, is known for its eerie and unsettling aesthetic, blending horror and science in a style termed "hauntology." Through blog posts, books, and visuals, Scarfolk parodies 1970s graphic design, creating a sense of unease and dark humor. The project serves as a commentary on the persistent influence of the past on the present and highlights the potential dangers of nostalgia and authoritarianism

Picked up the most unhinged, surreal, absurdist piece of literature I’ve ever laid eyes on last week.
This is like Nightvale, Hitchhiker’s Guide, Bioshock, Control, Mind MGMT, and John Dies at the End all wrapped into one package.
I’m having a great time 😄

After randomly finding out about OmegaMart a few weeks ago, we decided on a small Meow Wolf order. I suspect we'll do a second one in the new year for some of the other items that appeal...
I love that the fridge magnet opens up.
...and now that I know what Meow Wolf does, if they could hook up with Scarfolk for encounter area, that would be mind bending.
Of course, it would also not be a happy place.

All the Goncharov stuff is putting me in a Scarfolk kind of mood... Here’s popular 1970s children’s entertainer Charlie Barn...
Charlie Barn was a paranormal, spider-like entity discovered in the vast, labyrinthine bunker beneath the Scarfolk council office building. He employed mind-control techniques to trick people into making him famous and was a regular guest on British TV throughout the 1970s. He appeared in children's programmes such as Blue Peter and as a cartoon character in Paddington. He also hosted his own show, Barn's Owls, which saw him hunt, disembowel and eat large owls (later revealed to be orphans dressed as owls) in front of a live studio audience.
In 1973 he set up various fake charities which gave him access to schools and hospitals where he would illicitly lay eggs in the heads of children in a bid to populate the world with his unnatural progeny. How he got away with his sickening actions for so many years beggars belief.
