#sensationalizing me is making me a little uncomfy.

This is a super super gentle reminder not to put your favorite authors on a pedestal. We're real people living average lives and not trying to be influencers. We criticize ourselves enough and we don't want to be held to an invisible standard (we start to worry we fail to exceed our own selves) or compared to other writers (we are not competing) or tailor our craft to cater to a wider audience (the right people will find you).

Hi, I'm sorry, but I was reading the second chapter of debutante (which I love, by the way, also thank you for the warning for making out I'm ace and it can make me uncomfy) and i got to the part with logan and dee at the townhouse - what is yellow journalism?
*RUBS MY LITTLE JOURNALISM HISTORY ENTHUSIAST HANDS TOGETHER*
(and i’m glad that the warning was helpful to you!!!)
okay, so, essentially, the dictionary definition of yellow journalism is journalism and associated newspapers that present little or no legitimate, well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism. if you’re american, then your familiarity of yellow journalism probably stems from hearing about their influence in the spanish-american war; otherwise, then this probably sounds like tabloid journalism—yellow journalism is the forefather of modern tabloids, in my opinion, but libel laws have certainly evolved from the Height of yellow journalism in the 1890s.
so, hearst and pulitzer (who were two yellow journalists who were neck-and-neck with trying to sell more papers, if you’re familiar with the musical newsies then you definitely know about pulitzer’s paper the new york world) were especially involved in whipping up fervor when it came to the spanish-american war—they tended to focus a lot of attention on cuba and the “conditions” there, (which were often obtained thirdhand and were very misleading, as there wasn’t the more stringent emphasis on impartiality and facts that there is today, and again, those libel laws sure have gotten stricter) which would whip up pro-war sentiments in the us, which would sell more papers, so on.
then there was the sinking of the uss maine, and papers went bonkers. they came up with this story that the spanish side had planted a torpedo (i think it was a torpedo) beneath the maine and detonated it, and there was an artists illustration of the maine blowing up huge on the front page, and, well. people’s feelings toward spain went nuts, and boom went the war.
(funny enough, an investigation almost a century later found that the explosion originated inside the ship.)
so, basically, yellow journalism is characterized by a whole lot of misinformation, a whole lot of one-sided stories, and basically everything you could think of as propaganda. it’s an industry that involves a lot of lying. so, in essence, i thought it sounded perfect for janus—or, at least, janus at this point in time.

This is seriously not an important question, but do you think it’s wrong to read stories about people who are already in relationships. Like I just found that of the people I read stories on is not single and I feel even more disgusting than normal when I read stories on people who are single. Like I love you’re work and many others, but I just feel like it’s wrong to read such intimate stuff about people that I know it will never happen with.
Okay so at the outset, I’m going to say that I don’t personally mind it. My general rule of thumb when it comes to fan fic is that it is a thing meant to enjoy and entertain but it should be kept out of sight of the people it’s about. So it’s fine to put it here or on ao3 but don’t reply to an idol with thirst tweets unless they ask for it.
You have to make the choice for yourself. If it makes you uncomfortable to read about real people then don’t. If it makes you feel disgusted with yourself then please don’t. You can engage in the fan base in other ways that are more comfortable to you. But whether it’s your own feelings about sex or feeling weird that it’s real people like address that because you don’t have to make yourself feel bad to engage in fandom.
NOW, that does not mean go and send hate if you disagree with it. There’s no need for that. You don’t have to like it and you can think it’s weird but just don’t read, unfollow, or block if you don’t want to see it.
The last thing I will say is it’s all meant for entertainment. I want to address your last point even if this wasn’t exactly how you meant it but please don’t go around thinking you’re going to date an idol. I mean yes, crazy things happen. But it;s one thing to daydream and another to believe that something will happen or to get in your head about not having a chance. And if the thought that you don’t have a chance with an idol makes you really upset please take a HUGE step away from kpop for a bit and work on yourself.
This is all meant to be for fun. When I’m dating someone I fantasize about them. When I’m not I use a celebrity crush. It’s a placeholder for me. It’s fun to imagine the perfect relationship because real ones are so messy. But i know it isn’t real and there’s more to it than that. My day dreams are sensationalized as is my writing which is a whole different topic. At the end of the day I think if you’re keeping to your own little community and not going out of your way to make idols see it and make them uncomfy then I think it’s fine

UUUUUuuh I want to check since I saw it on twitter: are you like aware pew/diepie is a nazi and the guy you reblogged from says ra//pe culture is a myth. if you want just publish a text post saying yes/no. i'm just, uncomfy following you if you do agree with that kind of people
 hO BOI
…Okay in all seriousness I’m going to attempt to answer this ask as level headed as possible. No dank shady shizzle for the sake of any of my followers that are legitimately concerned as to whether or not I’m an actual freaking nazi. spoilers: i’m not
Because my followers deserve an honest answer. On a base level, I’m really grateful that any one of you even enjoy my art to begin with, so I don’t want to have any misunderstandings between us
So let’s tackle the first statement: “are you like aware pew/diepie is a nazi”
…here’s a novel thought:
People that make jokes regarding nazis,
Aren’t necessarily nazis.
youtube
please watch the whole video before making any judgment.
As for your second comment regarding “ra//pe” culture, I’m not going to be as bold as to say that it doesn’t exist at all, and can’t say that I’m an expert on the subject either. But from what I’ve researched about the topic it’s definitely debatable at best.
The most common statistics you see supporting the existence of rape culture, such as the “1 in 5 women in college campus are sexually assaulted” statistic and many others, have been heavily scrutinized for being too broad in their methods of measurement as well as vague wording in their questionnaire and other faults. To most these don’t sound like smoking guns to topple these sensationalized statistics, but you’ll find that the fallacies of most things lie in the little details.
The following videos address the topic rather effectively. Reminder that I am not saying that rape isn’t a problem in the US, and neither does Christina Sommers. And to cover myself one more time before anyone calls me an alt right fascist nazi misogynist, Sommers is a political liberal leaning towards moderate. I’m a moderate myself. And if we’re going to start using Identity politics as ammo, I also have a vagina
And to reaffirm just in case, please watch the entirety of both videos in whole before making any serious judgments. Knee jerk reactions tend to be irrational.
Also they’re both pretty short. No longer than 5 min each ^^

To finish this off, I just want to say that it’s okay to follow people on social media that you disagree with politically!
Unless they’re like an obvious racist whatever or offensive prick then I totally get it. But those people tend to be of the vast minority. I can assure you that I’m not one of them. Just because I might lean a little bit to the right of you on the political spectrum doesn’t mean I’m your mortal enemy or whatever.
For example, I’m still subscribed to youtube channels such as JelloApocalypse and Lindsay Ellis despite disagreeing with their political beliefs, the former especially. I do so because I enjoy their content, and I also have the ability to separate their politics from it.
Even when it comes to the far end of the spectrum, where are movies, books, shows, etc. that have been created by literal criminals, rapists, and degenerates, it is still entirely possible to enjoy their work without subscribing to what they did/believed in. (unless you’re actively purchasing their work and supporting them financially, then that’s a whole other debate) Of course, I understand that not everyone can do that and I totally respect that, and I don’t expect you to either.
But those are works created by the scum of humanity. I’m certainly not a rapist, pedophile, criminalasides from that one pack of gum I stole as a kid from the store , or whatever. So you even have less of a reason to be offended by or averse to my content. I hope that I’ve made all of this clear ^^;
TL;DR I’m not a nazi/misogynist, watch the videos for context
