As a queer, trans, trekkie I find it very unnerving that some people ship Seven with Shaw.

Shaw is transphobic. He is incapable of using the proper name when referring to Seven even when multiple people, including Seven herself, correct him. The fact that he calls Seven by her real name when dying does not absolve him of anything, it's completely meaningless.

Trans people face abuse from the people we date/are close to all the time, and it's very hard for a lot of us to defend ourselves and understand that this abuse is not something we should have to face. This ship tells us that we should continue to face this abuse and be okay with people not respecting our identity.

It also plays into the whole sexist and mysogynist trope that "he's mean to her because he's secretly in love with her". And it feeds into the idea that respecting a trans person's pronouns and name is difficult and takes times, which is complete bullshit.

As a trans trekkie, the existence of fanfics/fan art around this ship makes me feel very uncomfortable and scared to be around some of you.

If you're trans a like this ship, good for you. In any case, I will not debate this, I'm just putting it out there so that cis trekkies can think about it and about how they can be better allies to trans trekkies.
