Happy #internationalwhalesharkday! Like many animals and fish during this period of #greatdying we're experiencing, #whalesharks are endangered. This Great Dying we're currently in is largely caused by human action. The only way this #shark will survive, along with all the other endangered species, is if mankind changes its' behavior. I still remember the amount of fun we had installing the setup, Esteban's table and the chairs. There is nothing threatening about most of the species you will encounter in the ocean. Look at this picture and now imagine that those fins are cut off so they can be used for soup! I was so fortunate that for years, I got to spend so much time in the water, swimming with sharks. But there came a point when I felt self indulgent and realized I needed to get out of the water and do more to fight for sharks. So this is how I ended up throwing myself head first into Legislative campaigns. Not because I was qualified. Not because I thought I could save every shark on the planet. “Airborne” acrylic on board. This was a fun piece I painted in college... long before #Sharknado ! Haha . I wanted to leave this one open to interpretation. Mako sharks can launch completely out of the water, but I decided to only show sky and birds surrounding the shark so its altitude is uncertain.
