FFXIV Write 2: Bark

The bark was rough and dry beneath her skin.

The Auri girl looked up from the tree trunk to the branches above and watched the leaves dance in the wind. A curious place, the surface was. Everything was so dry, so bright, so firm. And tall. Things had been tall in the sea, too, but not like this. In the sea, the water held the weight of things and danced with them. Here, the air pushed through objects, heedless of their frame or form. Where the sea had been in all things, on the surface, the wind and wood were separate. She ran her hand over the bark once more. If such a tree had grown beneath the waves, would it remain as unyielding, or would it sway like the forests of kelp? What force held it upright beyond its own will? And if everything under the sky was of itself and its own will, then what did that make her? She had always belonged to her people. To the sea.

"Izumi?" she heard Grandmother's voice call in the distance. It was not her name, but she answered to it anyway.

With fingertips still buzzing from the texture of the bark, the girl turned from the tree and walked back towards Grandmother's hut.

"Where have you been this morning, hm?" asked Grandmother with a toothy grin.

The girl did not answer aloud; in the time she had spent on the surface, she never had. Instead, she looked over her shoulder, eyes on the treeline. Grandmother followed her line of sight, but whether or not she understood was unclear. She smiled regardless.

“The trees may have as many secrets as you do, Izumi. Kami keep you both.”

The girl kept her eyes on the wood.

Izumi. "From the sea." It was as good a name as any. She could not give hers; she could not give any word, written or spoken. She could only watch the waves crash on the shore, feel the spray of mist on her skin, and wonder if she made the right choice.

She had separated from the sea. If aught remained of her, only time would tell.

Occupation: Warrior of Light, adventurer, omnicrafter

Nameday: 19th Sun of the 6th Astral Moon

Race: Raen Au Ra

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Age: 26 when ARR begins

Height: 155 cm

Social status: As of EW, betrothed to Ser Aymeric de Borel of Ishgard

Fighting style: primarily a healer. She hoped to learn astromancy in Ishgard but was not permitted entry and instead began training as a conjurer in Gridania. (Main: WHM & AST) Through her adventures and ordeals, she has picked up various other styles of fighting. (canonically: DRK & NIN & RDM & DNC)

Firstly, is he not too pretty to exist???

I started playing about six months ago because a friend of mine was super into it and oh my stars, Aymeric. 😍 I was doomed from the start.

Secondly,

I would love to tell you about my WoL :)

Her name is Yume, and she's an Au Ra originally from the little undersea village of Sui-no-Sato. Due to some... circumstances, she may have run away from home. Resurface in a new country, change your name, and start a new life -- it's called self-care.

She is primarily a white mage, but is skilled in a variety of disciplines (other mains being: dark knight, reaper, red mage, and dancer). ["I'm a healer, but..."] She likes to cook and eat and look at the stars. She is a soft little bean and I love her.

Also, it's funny you should ask, because I actually just signed up for the Wondrous Tails event, so there will be a lot more Yume to come :D and wolmeric. I cannot be stopped.

Wondrous Tails Prompt - High School AU

@fiishfearme and I have been talking about a high school AU since the FFXIV manga has been out, so we were super excited to get this prompt!

On the left, Yuri, school delinquent and sole member of the school's unofficial fishing and "illegal summonings" club. She spends her time hanging out by the pond, where she lives -- or so she keeps telling the other students.

On the right, Yume, head of the disciplinary committee, student council member, and captain of the swim team. Never to be seen without her disciplinary whistle, Yume keeps a close eye on the student body to ensure they're following school rules -- though she's lax when it comes to her sister, whom she keeps pestering to turn in the official paperwork for the fishing club so she can join that, too (Yuri insists the pond would get too busy then).

Estinien: And when did you mean to come clean about it?

Yuri: eheheh.....

Yuri does, however, spend a lot of time attempting to get Estinien to skip class and goes fish with her. She was successful only once, having tricked him into believing the student council wanted him to help her clean the pool (they did want the pool clean, but fishing it clean was absolutely unnecessary, and only Yuri was asked to do so).

Student council president Aymeric with Yume in tow, ensuring the president's plans to improve the school go off without a hitch.

Yume spends a lot of time running back and forth, but she drops everything to help Aymeric, her boyfriend and the student council president (not that she tells him she drops everything, or he'd stop asking, of course). It's important to her to see his plans come to successful fruition -- if it means cracking a few skulls, it's a small price to pay.

Bonus doodles:

The face Yuri makes after successfully tricking Estinien into fishing with her, and Yume seeing Yuri make that face from a distance thinking, "what is she up to now...?"

My lovely friend @fiishfearme and I are doing the Wondrous Tails of FFXIV event!
