Evenings on our block were always my favorite part of the day. Once mama would finish making supper, she'd always head out front to talk with the others on our block. I think that's why mama was so liked, she'd always lend a listening ear, but was never quick to put her two cents in since it was mostly gossip they'd discuss. This was a nightly event while we waited on daddy to get home from work to eat. All while us kids hung out together.

Jack Brown and I had been best friends for as long as I could remember. He and Danny were nothing alike, other than them being twins, they might as well had not been related at all.

Jack laughing: I'm so gonna beat you... AGAIN!

I held my breath in hopes he'd fall or miss a box as he jumped through them easily: I swear you cheat.

Jack let out a sarcastic "ha": There ain't no way possible to cheat on this game, sore loser.

Jack made his way to the last box: Victory is mine!

I rolled my eyes as Jack made his way back over to me, handing me the rock so I could take my turn. I jumped on his back: Are you sure you don't have a decoy rock you use when it's your turn?

He let out a small chuckle and he spun around in circles with me on his back: I can't believe we gotta go back to school tomorrow, summer goes too fast.

June sighed: I'm happy to go back, summers are so boring with you here.

Jack set me down: Yeah, well spendin' all summer in the suburbs with grandma makes it go even quicker knowin' I'm comin' back to antsville.

Danny walked down from their front steps and playfully started shoving Jack: What's up squares?

Jack pushed his hand away: You always kill a good time.

Danny smirked: Ain't that a bite. [he looked at me and smiled quickly].

Jack: Where are you goin'?

Danny: End of summer bash. What's it to ya?

Jack rolled his eyes: It's a school night. Ma's letting you go?

Danny's expression fell annoyed: Ma doesn't know, she thinks I'm goin' to mow lawns and earn some cash for some new sneakers.

Jack: Nifty.

Danny nodded his head at us as he started making his way down the block: Catch ya later nerds.

Francesca "Frankie" Morelli, Aldo's little sister, is a firecracker, let me tell you. She's the kind of dame who could charm the devil himself with that smile of hers. But don't let her looks fool you, she's got brains to match, and she's not afraid to use 'em.

Frankie's always looking out for her big brother, Aldo. Most nights, you'll find her patching him up when he stumbles home from work, a real mother hen, that one. She's tough as nails, but she's got a heart of gold, especially when it comes to family.

But let me tell you, she's no pushover. Frankie's got a mouth on her that could make a sailor blush, and she's not afraid to speak her mind. She's a handful, that's for sure, but she's also fiercely loyal and would do anything for the ones she loves.

Friday nights at the Underground downtown was always the perfect place to catch a drink and unwind with some good music. This was Cheyanne's favorite place to do such that, and after the past couple of days, she needed the alcohol encouragement.

Cheyanne's best friend Keyosha, and her band played here for their weekend sets. After their first few songs, she gestured for her friend to join her for a drink at the bar.

"You look way too stressed for someone who should be celebrating their new place," Keyosha said to her friend. She ordered the two beers each.

"I just need to find someone to sign off for me. Why is this so hard?" Cheyanne complained. "Again, one step forward to get knocked ten steps back."

Keyosha took a few gulps from her beer before turning to her friend, "Girl, what is so bad about asking them for a little help? You'll be starting your own business. If your parents can help a little with that, take that opportunity."

Cheyanne sighed thinking of her parents again, "You know EXACTLY why."

She begun to think about the last thing her parents "did" for her. They always found a way to throw it back in her face, which was why she left home in the first place. They doubted her dreams because they weren't ideal with their beliefs. The thought just gave her a headache.

"Look, you know I would help you if I could, but I'm lucky enough my parents are even supporting me by paying for my loft. Do you want a business or no?" Keyosha explained before she noticed someone familiar across the room. "OH! HEY JOEY!"

Cheyanne sucked her teeth shooting her friend a slightly shady look, "Ugh! Yeah...I do..."

If this was her last resort, then so be it. Cheyanne promised herself that she would achieve her goal no matter what it took.

As the two women spoke, across the club, someone watched them...or Cheyanne in particular...

[Prologue]

My story takes place in the Upper Universe, where heaven and earth meet and immortals live. Among the three main races, divine spirits, monsters and humans, we divine spirits reign supreme.

We were born directly from the first light. The first light was responsible for the creation of the 3,000 worlds. Everything came from it!

As soon as the upper Universe was created, this light collided with a barren world. From this union between the light and the world came the divine spirits. Thus the first race to exist. The place where the light and the world met became known as "The Ancestral Earth".

As time went by, life began to sprout in the created worlds, and with them new species emerged. The race of monsters was one of them, considered the second existing race. The third to emerge were humans and after them, many others.

From here on in, you'll follow the story of love, discovery and overcoming between a Phoenix Empress and a Dragon Emperor.

The weeks after Clifton's death were a gut punch for Blythe. Her family couldn't get through to her. She locked herself in the house, ignoring phone calls, knocks at the door.

After a few weeks, her friends Posie and Fiona came over to have a movie night with her. The only way to get B out of bed was a promise of popcorn, cokes, and the newest SCREAM movie.

After lots of laughs and popcorn crushed into the bed, Fiona had to go back home to spend time with her husband before he had to leave town.

Before Posie left, she offered to blow dry Bly's hair and chat for a while.

"You know, when my sister lost Dom, she found a wonderful group of friends online who had gone through the same thing. Maybe something like that would be good for you." Posie offered.

"I don't know. It just feels weird to be going on with my life. To be living when Clif isn't here."
