Six the Musical Production Guide

Hey! I’m bored and there’s a lot going on with Six productions, so here’s a little guide with the different productions and what’s going on at the moment. Also be sure to check the Wiki as it has a ton of more info.

Current Productions:

West End: Running as normal! The current cast has been there since October 2022 and a cast change should occur in September/October/November!

Broadway: Running as normal! The current cast has been there since December 2022 and a cast change should occur in December!

UK Tour: Running as normal! The current cast will leave on April 23rd and the new cast will start April 25th (this coming week). Harriet Caplan-Dean (swing) will be staying with the new cast for a few weeks as they settle in. The new cast will also be performing in The Netherlands in September, like the current cast performed in South Korea. However there will not be a Netherlands production, it’s just a tour stop by the UK Tour cast!

North American “Aragon” Tour: Closing on July 30th in Portland! It’s very likely that the set and stuff will be used for the Canadian Production (see below), but will probably reopen in 2024. Jasmine Forsberg (Seymour) will be leaving on April 29th & Didi Romero (Howard) will be leaving on May 7th. Natalie Paris (Seymour) [OG WE Seymour] & Courtney Mack (Howard) [OG BW Alternate] will be their replacements!

North American “Boleyn” Tour: Running as normal! The current cast will leave on October 22nd & the new cast will start October 31st!

South Korea: Closing on June 25th! Heo Sol-ji (Howard) wasn’t able to debut with the other cast members in March due to an injury, but she might debut around April 29th (no confirmed date yet to my knowledge)!

NCL Bliss: Closing in May! No official date yet but we should be getting a new cast announcement soon where they’ll confirm the dates.

NCL Breakaway: New cast started in March and will be there until August 13th!

Upcoming Productions:

Canada: Opening on August 12th in Edmonton and moving to Toronto from September - November with a possible extension! As of *right now* it is just a sit-down production that’s playing in 2 cities, not an official tour. The Six accounts haven’t really addressed it (I think the @sixustour account on Instagram reposted a story about it) but it will be an all-Canadian cast, so not the Aragon or Boleyn tours. It’s possible that it could turn into a Canadian tour, maybe even referred to as the Seymour Tour, but as of right now it is just a sit-down production in Canada.

i mean never say never but with the 4th uk tour queens leaving and likely becoming the six team's first contacts in case of an emergency (assuming they contact recent former queens when castle hopping isn't possible and they need an emergency cover), it does look like west end 4.0 is on track be the first uk cast to not have an emergency cover queen from the previous cast!

west end 1.0: genesis lynea (arts theatre cleves, this one technically isnt the previous cast but the arts theatre cast was the only other previous cast so im counting it)

this may be random & sorry if u do not know, but do you know why the Six West End recording isn’t the same full cast as the og west end cast? i assume it was a diff cast from before it actually went to west end but i can’t find the answer anywhere lol

because the album isnt technically an original west end recording ! in december 2017 six was scheduled to play 4 performances at the arts theatre every monday night (which then got increased to six performances due to demand). this was the shows professional debut before it went on a uk tour and then transferred to the west end full time. the cast of those original six performances is the one you hear on the album!

the album was recorded in may before the uk tour (with the og west end cast) started! idk why ppl did/didnt stay on nor do i really know why they recorded an album so early on in the production progress (probably as a marketing tactic to create noise so it’d be more likely to transfer to the west end?) but thats why! it was a different cast :)

I'll reply to your ask in a bit but I just need to tell you I'm having a crisis right now ;_;.

I always thought millie o Connell did Anne's song for the cd, so whenever I heard it I assumed it was her, I ended up watching a recorded performance and was surprised how she didn't sound the same...I just checked and Anne's song is sung by someone else?!?!?@? I thought she was the og Anne!!! But I'm looking and before six went official there was an off westend production and they only did 4 performances.... and they made a cd for them...my life has been a lieeeeee!!!!!

I always think they should make a cd whenever they change cast, or at least record the song of the new cast member, so everyone gets to hear who they saw again and again... im just shocked over this lol

oh my god, that’s actually hilarious!! i don’t know much about six pre millie o’connell but yeah, there’s the original fringe performance and then off west end. i knew christina sang on the official recording because i wish there was one of millie since she popularised the role.

if they did it for each cast they’d have like so many recordings. because there’s west end, broadway, uk, aus and us tours. breakaway cruises and bliss cruises. not to mention they just added a show in south korea. that’s a lot of cast changes to record each time. id never say no to a becca wickes version of all you wanna do though!! that’s my #1 musical theatre girly and aimie is great obviously but she’s no becca wickes.

Costume Info from Gabriella Slade’s Webinar (7 Sep 2021)

Hey y’all! Today the Victoria and Albert Museum hosted a talk with Gabriella Slade to discuss her work on SIX as the costume designer. @lightleckrereins and I attended and wrote up two posts about it. First West End show she had ever seen was Beauty and the Beast, but had seen local theater before

Did a standard year in college and then specialized in design for 2nd/3rd years

Asked what it was like to work on her first SIX production:

Didn’t say much other than very excited during og fittings

First time the queens were in costume for the first UK tour everyone was really excited.

The way they walked changed after trying on the costumes

How she decided what to change and some examples of what changed:

Once she saw under the lights could see that she wanted to change the sleeves or add more detail etc

Construction and longevity of wear led to some diff things

originally were all one piece now several so they can wash, better maintain (studs fall off), how they keep form, etc.

Mentioned Cleves going from silver to red

The choreography and the way the queens move with the costumes led to construction changes

Parr pants were pleather (first UK tour original pants), now printed lycra (went with regular lycra until before Broadway)

Skirts used to collapse before new materials and more structure got implemented

Plays around with fabrics on the stand prior to construction to figure out how it works (This is an important step of costume making in general, and even more so for SIX when the materials they use don’t behave like regular fabric)

Sadie Hurst’s Swing Status

I’m seeing some confusion about Sadie Hurst, so here’s what we know: - The cast announcement post just labeled her as a “swing.” It didn’t clarify who was a rehearsal alt vs regular alt, but did clarify Ellie and Abbi’s covers.* This led to a lot of speculation that she may be a super swing on the cruise in addition to Ellie and Abbi, but this was debunked by several other posts made in the next few days. - The day the cast was announced Sadie also posted and confirmed that she is covering Boleyn, Seymour, and Cleves. In the comments of that post she also said that she was just learning those three for now but may learn more in the future.  - On today (16 Sep), the last day of rehearsals, she did a run as Howard which means she added that to her tracks at some point. We don’t know if she learned Aragon or Parr. - On Sadie’s Spotlight, it states that she is “currently working as Rehearsal Swing for Six” 

*This isn’t that unusual: The Bliss 1.0 and Bliss 2.0 cast announcements just identified all four of them as swings without clarifying who for and/or who was a rehearsal alt; Breakaway 1.0 was only announced on the Six account the day before opening night, with nothing on the rehearsal alts and Elizabeth/Liv just labeled swings (I know it was announced earlier elsewhere but can’t remember where); the OG WE alts, NA Tour alt announcements, UK Tour alts announcement and the 2019 West End alts announcement also didn’t clarify who they were covering

Headcannon: Queens favorite musicals

uh yea never done this before but heyy i'm bored let's do it

(oh and ps these are from my notes for Six Queens Under One Roof)

Aragon: Sister Act. She started liking it after watching the movies, which she has DVDs for both of them, and then was really surprised to hear there was a Broadway musical (courtesy of Anne, per usual). She refuses to watch any bootlegs because she says it's disrespectful, but she has watched one for Sister Act exactly once, and at the middle of the night.

Anne: Heathers. Anne always claims she listened to Heathers first, but actually the first musical her friends introduced to her was Mean Girls, and through that obsession she found Heathers and fell in love with it. She'd love to play any of the characters except for Kurt and Ram (yes, that means she wants to play JD as well). Will find excuses for JD's behavior, and she's a hardcore Chansaw shipper. She has the OG Broadway and OG UK tour bootlegs and has memorized the entire show as you do. (She also loves the movie as well)

Jane: Sound of Music. I mean are we surprised? She love the family dynamic she first saw in the movie, and then she was surprised at the differences and added songs in the musical. She keeps the fact that she prefers the movie to herself to avoid a screeching Anne, but she enjoys the Broadway as well. Jane has no idea what a bootleg is, and no one wants to tell her. She often hums Do Re Mi when doing chores and such.

Anna: Hamilton. Anna first listened to it with Anne while they were home alone. She walked in thinking Anne was listening to hip hop or something but lo and behold it's a musical. She spent an entire week screaming when she found out about the Hamilton pro-shot, and actually found out before Anne did. She strives to be both Angelica and Eliza and demands Cathy and Kat being the other sisters (despite Kat not liking Hamilton all that much). She's also the type to love and appreciate literally everyone in every cast and has watched all the boots.

Kat: Dear Evan Hansen. No surprise, Anne introduced the show to Kat. She loves that it's so relatable, and appreciates the example that DEH gives on the Broadway community (obviously not the whole lying thing, but you get her point). Her favorite song is "For Forever" and the queens know to play it when she needs a bit of cheering up. Her favorite ship is Kleinsen and she will rant about Jared's pining for Evan for a while. And as much as she loves Ben Platt, her favorite Evan is Jordan Fisher and that's the bootleg she has downloaded.

Cathy: Waitress. Once again, this is due to Anne's theatre kid energy and need to rant about musicals. Anne was ranting about the show and Cathy was intrigued by the plot and so she listened to it in the middle of the night. She adores "When He Sees Me" because it's kind of similar to how she felt for Kat before they started dating. She loves that they're all badass women and the feminist vibes from it. She wants to watch a bootleg but she has no idea how to find one and her searches end up empty.

Six dressup on possible updates and why some things won’t happen

Because between things I want to do, things I need to fix, and things people have asked about or suggested I literally made a list dividing everything between: will absolutely happen|maybe|I have to check if this could work|not possible|makes my life harder so nope|already tried and it didn’t work|not making it

Make all the clothes in all the colors: (not making it, please stop asking) I have said this before, and I’ll say it again: this is a really big no. Even if I could make this in less than a few months the game file would grow four times its current size and it already takes my computer ten minutes to load so not happening.

Different body types: (not possible) This one right here is the biggest no. Making different body types: plus size, different height, more gender-neutral bodies is technically impossible. A different body means redrawing all the clothes, which I am not making, because everything fits differently on each body; and there is no way on the Meiker algorithm to change the body and automatically change all the clothes with it. Trust me I wanted to do this, it is in the first page of my “what would I do if I actually made the game” notes and it was the first thing I crossed out because it can’t happen.

More face options: (will absolutely happen) meaning different noses, more eyebrows, adding eyebrow colors, more eye shapes, potentially another eye color, maybe more mouth shapes. Yes, to all, I knew I wanted more eyes and eyebrows since I was testing the game, so all of this are happening. Just be aware that this is still my cartoon style and some things don’t happen in it.

Face markings: (will absolutely happen) won’t be many things, but freckles and moles will come.

More skin tones: (will absolutely happen) when I made the skin tones, I thought I had everything covered. Turns out the middle range of skin tones doesn’t read that well on some screens, and that needs to be corrected. And believe it or not I did a ton of research to make this game as diverse as possible, and I want to add darker skin colors with different undertones like the lighter ones.

More hair colors: (maybe) I think there is a nice range so far, maybe adding another brown and blond hair colors could be nice. Problem is that this takes a while, and I don’t know if I have enough motivation for it.

Alt colors for the Howard ponytails: (will absolutely happen) Yes. And green spacebuns, because why not. And other queen-color details for the hair.

Allow different hair colors for each hair piece: (makes my life harder so nope) I do see the appeal, but I also think it would be way more tedious to change each part individually each time you want a new hair color so not happening.

Makeup: (already tried and it didn’t work) there is a folder in my face assets file called eyeshadow, I spent over an hour working on it, has all ten colors and everything. I had to drop the idea the second I started working on different eye shapes. There is no way for makeup to work and not look weird with at least one eye shape.

Nail polish: (I have to check if this could work) no clue if this could look good again my style, I don’t usually do nails.

Tattoos: (not making it) I really don’t feel comfortable with this one. I believe tattoos are a deeply personal thing so I have no clue what would work for the queens. And there is no way I will take the queens tattoos and add them, because that is super disrespectful to them and stealing from their tattoo artists.

Glasses: (already tried and it didn’t work) as much as I like the idea the HOH glasses already look weird with some hairstyles, so this idea was discarded months ago.

Non costume clothing items: (not making it) including, but not limited to: student cast and studio cast costumes. First this don’t fit the aesthetic of the current costumes. Second a huge reason why the game works is that the costumes follow certain rules (costume parts, where waistbands go, etc.) so other clothing pieces is a big no. But there is one thing I will try to make:

Denim jackets: (I have to check if this could work) won’t make any promises, but I do like this idea

Allowing for a both a Cleves top and a shorts underlayer at the same time: (will absolutely happen) Yes.

Band tops as an under layer so they can be worn under the Cleves jacket: (will absolutely happen) this is the reason I asked for ideas on the first place. I hadn’t thought about this, but it makes a lot of sense so yes. Not the long sleeved one for layering reasons but the rest of them yes.

Other shorts/pants as an under layer to wear with the Howard skirts: (makes my life harder so nope) this wouldn’t work for a dozen of layering, and lineart reasons and taking bottoms to a different category would be confusing

Remove the bra piece that shows under the parr/teal/orange tops: (not possible) I cannot remove the bra because that would qualify as nudity and Meiker’s no 1 rule is no nudity. I will try to make it smaller, but It can’t be removed completely and will show in some way or another under those tops.

More hairstyles: (will absolutely happen) I already added a few things that are not on the show, but there are so many more things I want to try specially with curly and kinky hair because that’s not something I usually do and the game was the best practice I had in a long time. And the hair 3 menu needs to be expanded.

Microphones: (I have to check if this could work) I will try to see if this could work on the back hand.

More backgrounds: (will absolutely happen) I mean the dark blue/Parr background. Maybe something else, maybe a non-stage background.

Extra accessories: (will absolutely happen) More earring styles and adding nose rings and other facial piercings

A few more costumes: (will absolutely happen) this is basically first UK tour costumes. I already have og Cleves and Aimie’s Howard top, so future costumes: Maiya’s old top (the puffed sleeves one, not the trash bag sleeves one) and pants. Grace’s original costume. Millie’s old top (the one with no over sleeve). Natalie Pilkington’s Aragon skirt.

If saw you were taking asks about 'The Six Queens' and I was wondering if you could tell us how you picture the Queens or the other characters when you write them, either as like comparisons to actors that have played them or just general description.

Oooh that’s interesting. I have kind of thought about this but I can ramble about the one’s I haven’t thought about yet too. 

Catalina in my mind (specifically when I write ‘The Six Queens’) is like a taller Jaye’J Richard-Noel from the OG and Current (I think) WE cast. She probably also has longer curly hair than most pictures I see of her. I think she and all the other Queens/Council all wear period-appropriate clothes like long dresses and corsets and the like during public appearances and stuff, but more casual stuff or pants when traveling in disguise or just chilling in the castle.

Anne probably resembles Millie O'Connell from the OG WE cast, but with shorter hair, like pixie-cut like. Also in my mind I also think all the first three Queens are pretty tall but that might just be because my brain associates height with royalty or something. 

Jane was really hard until I looked at photos of women who had played Jane and saw a photo of Lauren Byrne and it clicked. This Jane looks like a blonde Lauren Byrne (2nd UK Tour cast?). No difference in hair or height or anything, she just fits my mental image perfectly.

Anna definitely looks like Alexia McIntosh (OG WE and Current cast) in my brain for this story; she fits the ‘farm girl’ ‘mountain hick’ vibe so well I think. In my head she has really short hair, but I can see her with any hairstyle. She also wears pants the most out of all of them (second is Kitty).

Kitty is probably like a younger, shorter Sam Pauly (OBC). I don’t know what Sam looked like when she was 18 but I think it works and I think she’d just be shorter cause she’s younger but I don’t really know. She likes wearing pants just because she wasn’t really allowed to at home and she’s the most likely to wear a dress blouse and a fancy corset with riding pants around the quarters of the castle just for the heck of it.

Cathy in my mind always looks like Maiya Quansah-Breed (crush? huh? idk her) and so does Cathy from TSQ (that’s an acronym now, deal with it) but probably wears her hair down more often (like that one show Maiya wore her hair down and it was great). She likes pants too but can totally chill in long soft dresses if she feels like it.

Maria in my mind is always Hispanic and this is no different. Other than that I’m just thinking tall and long curly hair but that’s about all I got.

Maggie also has a specific yet extremely vague picture in my mind. Tall, brunette, always looks a little like Anne no matter what Anne look like. This is no different. 

Joan in my brain is that usual gangly, pale, bleach-blonde hair that a lot of the fandom describes her as, except her personality is a lot different than the fandom usually says (the way I see it anyway) but that really isn’t the point of this post.

Bessie, this is random I know, like a taller Brittney Mack (OBC Cleves). IDK why but that’s what my brain is telling me and who I am to dispute it.

Lucy looks like Grace Mouat. She just does, believe me. 

Alex is tall and gangly and Hispanic and has super curly hair. 

Margaret just looks like a young Elizabeth Boleyn/Tudor. Why? Don’t worry about it.

William is Anna but taller and younger and not very well-shaven.

Henry, Arthur, Edmund, Thomas, other historical figures just look like they did in history. Boring, I know, but whatever.

hi! it's the same anon from the sam question :) i'm really interested now in this ~typecasting~ six has adopted because it definitely seems to stem from the studio cast (i'm not familiar w the student cast) because renee and genesis are woc (and izuka? i don't know if she is or not) and christina, nat, and aimie aren't and that trend follows into the og uk tour cast and then is broken with the us cast for a bit until the current uk tour cast. this is more of a discussion than a question :)

hi! i am also quite intrigued by it. it’s interesting that even such a “diverse” cast really isn’t all that diverse. that’s my opinion, and people can disagree with it, but i don’t see how they can pride themselves on being diverse when the cast WOC specifically as Aragon, Cleves, and Parr (yes, i know about Andrea and Sam being other characters but) with Cleves almost always being the darkest skin color.

My six the Musical AU thing

Basically this au is a huge cross over of the Six cast as of April 2020. so the Uk tour,West end,Australia,Broadway,Bliss,Arts theater and Breakaway.So there first names they go by is from there actresses 1st names so i can refer to them as different names from the queens. but i am considering the Edinburgh Cast that will be referred as the queens names because they are the OG queens. and when cast changes around it would just be like oh i wanted a change of name but i am still thinking about what would happen if the actresses are different races.but if any cast get added they will also get added to the Au in some way.but all the cast has some thing that lets them have there own story with in the bigger au.(I am just gonna list them off)

West end-Theater au were they run a community theater and the fun the fun that comes with that. and Howard is Seymour bio daughter and this is very Howard finding her life in theater because here mom and 4 aunts own a whole theater.Also the Swings are her best friends who are also finding there way in theater.

 Uk Tour- Collage Au were the queens are roommates just getting through there degrees

. Broadway- High school AU this is based were the six of them have to put on there senior/junior year fall musical because the theater teacher is on  Maternity Leave and the six of them volunteer.

 Australia- Dancer Au so the 9 of the girls are on a competition dance team(this is mostly a Headcanon Au) 

Bliss- Modern Au i made this part of the Au first so its just a modern Au were all the Queens have there Families and Kids.I also took some could have been marriages out of History like Anne and Henry Percy marriage is a thing and i added some children like Anne has twin boys and Jane is a foster mom to 5 kids under 13. And Anne and henry have a divorced parents who share 50/50 custody of Elizabeth who is an teenager who is trying to get rid of her fathers latest “girlfriend” who is pregnant.for the second time with his child.

Breakaway-Teacher Au the Breakaway cast are teachers at an all girls school that has probably 200 kids told pre k-12.and its about them being teachers and theirs some Bolmour in there.

Arts theater cast- Girl group AU this one is basically just six but theres extra fun of being in the lime light and relationships

Original Edinburgh Cast- Reincarnation Au this is a classic Reincarnation Au were they are Reincarnated and they have to learn how to adapted to 2020.
