More Sonic Chronicles Highlights!

Honestly, the entire space pirate fight is doing everything in its power to break the game. Also, the void

Sonic keeps going invisible

Tails got pancaked

And unfortunately, the pirates are succeeding at breaking everything. I have attempted the fight several times now. Once, I got tpk'd, because the fight is actually pretty difficult; about half the time the game would freeze (I'm pretty sure that happened after every glitch above); and the three times I made to the end, the game froze on the fight end screen

I've already started the pirate quest, and I'm forced to finish it before I can continue the main plot. For now, I'm soft-locked. I'm trying to find a way around it, but that might take a bit. Hopefully this won't be the end of my Sonic Chronicles playthrough

I've been playing through Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood lately (yes, I will be posting refs!), and I've been enjoying it. And it occurred to me that most Sonic fans probably haven't seen much of the game, since it's hard to get a hold of, and there aren't many playthroughs on YouTube

I know this is a little outside this blog's usual content, but would people be interested in seeing gameplay of Sonic Chronicles? I've technically got a YouTube channel, even though I've never uploaded anything, so I could put stuff up there if people want. I'm not going to go to the extra trouble if no one's interested in watching though, so consider this an interest check

If enough people are interested, then I'll run another poll for what sort of playthrough you all want to see (pre-recorded vs. stream, talking vs. silent, etc.), but we'll start with this

[ID: a redesign of shade the echidna from sonic chronicles the dark brotherhood. She’s mostly unchanged, except for the fact that the glowing parts on her armor are blue, she has two bracelets on each arm, and has a dark belt with a glowing buckle that is also attached to a cross shoulder strap with various pockets. There are lighter parts on her armor as well, mimicking shoulderpads and decorating the neck of the suit. Blue energy extends from the bracelets on her right arm, with a note pointing to it that says “blade made from projected energy, used when using leach life”. Another note points to both her headband and a drawing of her helmet that reads “still armor, just retracted. It’s got a faceplate and ‘horns’ that retract into the ‘headband’ piece when not in use. End ID]

Been replaying sonic chronicles lately and I still love shade as much as I did when I was a kid, but a few things always felt off about her design? So here’s a light redesign taking inspiration from her concept design, headcannons I had as a kid, and things that felt like natural extensions of what’s mentioned in game. I seriously always thought her headband was just a retracted version of her helmet.

So back at the end of 2021 I just had the urge to draw a bunch of Chao from the Sonic series, specifically ones from Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. I started out with Ferox who is peak Chao design but I saw an untapped market by drawing some of the others like Radu, Fess & Blayze.

"It sounds a shitty drunk clown song that's sped up and slowed down at random intervals. Also it plays for, like, half the game, so you're listening to this awful little loop for HOURS. During a game where you're a bounty hunter tracking and killing H R Giger-style alien monsters. It doesn't fit the vibes of the game at ALL. It makes the game completely unplayable with the sound on."

So in Chronicles TDB, you can totally cheese duplicating the best chao in the game by simply trading it for a common, and turning off your system without saving. You'll still have your unique chao, and the person you trade to will also have the Chao.

You can also force hatch uniques by waiting for the eggs to be ready to hatch - without opening the Chao garden - saving, and reloading until you hatch the Chao you want. It is completely randomised every time up until the point you open the CG with a viable egg
