this got inspired by someone else's comment, but I keep rotating the angst of Leander just... tossing MC aside after they have served their use to him. Just.... maybe they have bonded, there's trust and maybe more built there and then after he's gotten what he wanted, the mc is no longer useful to him, he doesn't need them any more.

Just... the hurt and the betrayal of it all is what makes me go skslfjfhdhwehrhrhfh and now I can't stop thinking about it

helluva boss rants #2: is stolas embarrassed of blitzø?

the short answer is and always will be, no.

if i see one more person say that he was embarrassed of blitz in ozzie’s and that’s why he covered his face, then i always question them, did we watch the same show?

because no; stolas is and never will be embarrassed of blitzø. in #1 i broke down how stolas has always seen and appreciated imps as an equal.

i feel like a lot of people miss out on episode 5 of season 1, where stolas publicly STATES on stage in front of the entire ring of wrath that blitz is his darling and that he finds him sexy. he outs it. so, openingly stating that he was sleeping with him never was an issue.

he does the same partially in loo loo land, where i think the entire episode is in my prescription a test of waters for his daughter to get to know his lover - he wants to show her that he’s kind and caring (protecting them). i will go in depth about their little found family in another rant though.

but yeah, stolas is very open and honest about his relationship with blitz. at least, he wants to be. yet as mentioned in #1, he can’t. he simply gets that social pressure of being a goetia, having all a goetia would want and seeming like he just threw it away to get off. but that’s not the case for stolas. that’s never the case.

so, to make it clear to everyone who doesn’t get it still, stolas isn’t embarrassed of blitz, but rather himself and how he has disappointed everyone around him once more.

Soph I love you but Taylor Swift does not “make herself the victim” there’s so much valid shit that has happened to her for us to feel that way about her, which most of her fans honestly don’t even see her as - granted there as some obnoxious ones but that goes for all fandoms.

Like for example of the experiences I was talking about.

- being sexually assaulted and then being called “greedy” for suing the guy.

- being painted as a “snake” because she didn’t react well to someone writing a misogynistic song about it. Which I feel like is a valid reaction as a woman in entertainment.

- being groomed at 19 by a 30+ something year old.

- getting called a snake worldwide for a narrative that 2 people - who were more famous than her at the time invented.

- being bodyshamed constantly when she had an eating disorder

Yes she’s privileged and has always been, coming from money and having fame, but she does not portray herself as the “victim” and the fact that people think she does just for standing up for herself makes me sad, not because of her but because being a woman myself it just paints the picture that women’s pain or experiences will always be brushed under the rug because we’re classified as “dramatic” and “we should take it with more grace” “be thankful about the good things” like??

I understand that you don’t like her but that assessment just seems wrong.

like i just. you realize you're proving my point right? like this - not just this message, but all of the ones i've gotten where people are waxing poetic about all of the struggles taylor swift has had and how she is absolutely a victim and how dare i suggest otherwise - is exactly what i'm talking about. you feel the need to jump down the throat of anyone who says anything remotely negative about her. this is the whole "victim" narrative, that she is vulnerable and must be protected and defended from all negativity at all times at all costs.

and like. that is on purpose. she has cultivated that narrative for this reason. so that publications are now afraid to post reviews of her albums with bylines because their journalists are getting death threats if they criticize her.

i am not suggesting that taylor swift has never had anything bad ever happen to her. that would be insane. i am trying to say that this culture that has been cultivated within her fanbase of defending and protecting her, is extreme and irrational. and when you don't buy into it, it makes a lot of the content surrounding taylor swift very hard to swallow.

#this is pointless #i know that #you can be devoted to her if you want to be i really don't care #but i will once again point out that i made a very mild negative statement about her #and i now have an inbox full of messages like this #and can you perhaps see how that is #an overreaction to me making a post on my blog #not tweeting at taylor swift #not yelling at her on the street #not starting a campaign against her #surely if yall can make posts about how much you love her i can do the opposite #and again #this is pointless there are so many more important things to discuss and fight about #i swear to god i did not mean to post that post because i knew it would inevitably lead here #but i made the choice to leave it up so this is my penance #soph rambles

how does she “demand” pity😭 she’s just writing about her life experience. You would literally not say that about any other artist who writes about the same exact things as her. There’s valid things to dislike her for but her having a supposed “victim complex” is not one of them

she demands pity because she sets herself up as the underdog (or if she doesn't than her fans certainly do)

as being hard done by

as being persecuted

there is this feeling that she is succeeding even though the world is against her, it is what makes people like you feel the need to jump to her defence

the problem is, that when you don't buy into that narrative, of her being the underdog, when you instead see her as a person of immense power and privilege (a frankly frightening amount of power and privilege honestly), she becomes much harder to stomach (in my personal opinion, that was the point i was making)

it doesn't have anything to do with the content of her music per se, absolutely you can write about having your heart broken etc etc, but it is more about the way she positions herself as a victim in terms of like, society at large, which, at this point in time, especially given her absolute reluctance to speak out for people who are actually victims, i find personally obnoxious, and i find this need to constantly defend her, often by being extremely vicious, exhausting

can i say that im actually excited for the mcd tag? cuz we've seen you navigate character deaths before in choices and it was magical. as that one person said, you are great at visual narrative and i'd like to add to it by saying i love how you make emotions into holdable things. i felt the deaths like a stone to my head in choices and now you get to pick *which* character will die and *how*???? so here for it. i am a long time reader and maybe it's a bit fucked up but im at that point where i think a well written painful touch to the story's finale makes it so much better.

i had three immediate thoughts when reading the latest ohb chapter:

1) get remus away from water what do you mean he has to go UNDERWATER

2 get remus away from dumbledore and his claws like STOP TOUCHING and TAUNTING HIM

3) oh my god someone please give this sweet boy a HUG??? and stop him from following his awful plan which makes me terrified bc of the mcd tag

pirate is really not a great career for a dude with deep emotional water trauma

i was so happy to get some Dumbledore in there, I wasn't sure if I was gonna be able to fit him in, but like i think the duality of mermaids (the good and the sinister) really works very well for him

Sirius kinda gave him a hug??? or he let Remus hug him, which is basically the same!

Saltburn is not a film about class, right? at least, not really. like. Oliver is well off. maybe not living in Downton Abbey well off suuuurre, but he is middle to upper-middle class. this is not a movie about the working class sticking it to the wealthy. it's a movie about desire and obsession. it's actually super interesting that it is set in 2006 (or 2005? i can't remember), because what it is exploring is the way that a lot of us interact with people now. we watch them. on our phones. on our screens. we watch their beautiful lives and we obsess over them, and obsess over everything they have that we don't. Venetia in her speech in the bathtub to Oliver talks about how Oliver actually didn't know Felix at all, really just met him, and yet somehow Felix had become the centre of Oliver's whole fucking universe, in a way that i think you can compare to parasocial relationships people have now with celebrities etc. it is a movie that explores how far desire and obsession can go. in like, obviously a very campy way that is super fun and great. but it's not about class. it's the wealthy and the more wealthy eating each other.
