Are there any characters in-game that are notably really good/bad cooks? I know that Toya almost poisoned Rui in Never Give Up Cooking but idk about the rest
Also ty for posting all of these cool fun facts daily! They make my day
Yeah so as you said Toya is abysmal at cooking but he does get lessons from KAITO towards the end of Never Give Up Cooking! and is able to make significant improvement to his cupcakes. According to KAMIKOU FESTIVAL!, he's good at preparing and serving candyfloss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
VBS!Miku also cannot cook for shit (a trait she probably inherited from Toya) and is also given lessons by VBS!KAITO. VBS!Len receives lessons too, but I don't recall it being stated that he was a bad cook beforehand. Oh yeah goes without saying but VBS KAITO and MEIKO are good cooks.
Tumblr media
Honami is canonically a good cook. She's part of home economics club and cooks meals for Kanade often. In the 2021 Valentine's voicelines it is mentioned that she taught Saki how to make sweets. An can also cook, as well as prepare coffee and tea, because she works at the cafe. It's also mentioned that Kohane can bake in multiple seasonal menu voicelines.
Tumblr media
Airi can cook as demonstrated in Operation♡Secret Valentine! and she is also a member of tea ceremony club. She helps Saki and Emu bake cakes and other sweet treats in the aforementioned event.
Tumblr media
Honami and Emu also cooked a BBQ in Let's Have the Absolute Best Summer!.
Akito, Shiho, Haruka and Mizuki can all make chocolate, as shown in The Gentleman Thief's Thrilling White Day!?.
The 2023 White Day voicelines mention that Rui has made appliances for baking specific sweets, meaning that he probably has knowledge of how to make these by hand in the first place. Meanwhile the 2022 White Day voicelines reveal that the base forms of Len and KAITO can bake.
It's mentioned that Mafuyu can cook in the Mirage of Lights event story.
Ena's speciality is listed as "picking the best ingredients for cooking" in her official bio, so presumably she can cook.
Actually, all of Leo/need has some cooking proficiency. 4koma #10 reveals that they can all make apple pies.
And finally, Shizuku can cook as well. She also mentions that she can make chocolates in her 2021 Valentine's voiceline.
And for some assumptions
I don't think Kanade can cook. She can make instant foods but I don't know if she can cook actual meals. We do know that the reason she has pot noodles is because it saves her time, so maybe she can cook and just has priorities. She can be seen helping out Honami in her wedding card come to think of it, so she probably can cook.
Idk about Tsukasa and Nene. It's probably mentioned somewhere but I haven't read every card story.
I still don't trust WxS' island cooking.
Someone in the Wonderland SEKAI can cook. that or they have a magic oven/fridge like in cartoons (always a possibility with the Wonderland SEKAI)
Tumblr media
p.s no problem! glad to hear that

Hey! Just a heads up, english is not my first language, so sorry if something sounds off! But first let me just say your writing is so good and the way you write [REDACTED] gives me so many feels like i can't even :') About the request, i've been kinda up to the neck in work (college likes to bury us in group projects, reports, exams, surgery preparations and hospital shifts all at the same time because time? what is that? :'D ) so if it's okay, could i ask for some [REDACTED] comfort where +
mialuna4 asked: + Angel, who's been trying to compromise by working close to him, finally gets a bit to properly relax with them? Thank you, take care of yourself and I hope you have a wonderful week! (Hope its okay to send this in two parts)
Thank you! School + healthcare work is tough so I hope you've been taking care of yourself as well. <3
14 Days With You is an 18+ Yandere Visual Novel. MINORS DNI
~A Little Free Time~
“I can't believe I'm done,” you sighed with relief. Even though you’d started in the morning, the sun was already setting by now.
The last assignment you had was finally finished. At least for the moment, there was time to unwind. [REDACTED] was quick to take advantage of it. Your bed creaked as he got up. The moment you shut your laptop, he dragged your chair away from the desk.
You weren't sure what you expected, but you were grateful when his hands came to rest on either side of your temple. Cool fingers began to massage in small circles to soothe the headache you hadn't noticed until then.
“Feel better?” you heard him say after a few minutes of bliss. The ache faded as you let out a pleasurable hum in response. “Good.”
His touch disappeared and your seat was gently spun to face him. You reached out for them, taking the chance to stretch as best you could once you were finally standing and tangled up in their embrace.
God, you'd been sitting in that chair for hours. “I never wanna use my brain again,” you jokingly whined into his chest before looking up. “Sorry it took so long.”
“S’alright, Angel. I missed you.” Dark hair brushed against your cheek as he leaned down to press his lips to yours. You were surprised by the fervent, almost desperate kiss he gave that took your breath away.
“But you've been here with me the whole time?” you wondered out loud once they pulled back to let you breathe again. Your work had absorbed the majority of your focus, but you were certain you would’ve noticed if he left the room outside of the breaks he made sure you took.
He didn’t answer right away, though the yearning in his eyes spoke for itself as he scooped you up in his arms and settled down on the bed. Your boyfriend didn’t miss you so much as your attention.
It’d been an exhausting few weeks. You couldn’t remember the last time you really got to do anything but work or projects, especially with him. All you could manage was letting him sit in the room with you.
Now that he had you situated in his lap, [REDACTED] seemed much calmer. His arms crossed over your front as if you were a doll he wanted to cling to. You felt the warmth of their breath tickling along your neck as they took their time to kiss and nibble any spot they could find. “Fuck, I really missed you,” he repeated in an aching whisper that you weren’t meant to hear.
“I missed you too,” you laughed. “There’s still a little bit of light out. Wanna head somewhere?” You couldn’t really think of anywhere to go, but surely you’d find something to do at the pier. The shops always stayed open well past midnight there.
He only groaned and rested his forehead on your shoulder. “Yeah. Jus’ let me recharge.” From the way he spoke, anyone else would think he was the one who’d been busy. You knew he was just happy to have you back.
You reached up to lightly rub the top of his head, and you swore you heard him purring. “On second thought, let’s just stay here.”
“Whatever y’wanna do s’fine with me,” he muttered into your back. But the way he clung to you kept you right where you were.

Your blog is amazing!
Imagine: You are a former feminist, a stay at home mom of many kids, and I'm your feminist friend who visits you one day. I am worried about you and ask if this is really what you want even as I rub your belly and smile. You listen to me rant, all the while thinking that what I really need is some cock and a baby or two of my own. That would keep me happy and see, part of me loves rubbing your pregnant belly already. You decide to slowly corrupt me into becoming an antifeminist breeder, friends don't let their friends remain sad. How would you manipulate me?
Thanks.
Thank you so much!! I'm sorry I took so long to respond! I've been a busy mommy and I wanted to find the time to give this a well thought out answer. Short story below:
I freed myself of feminism what feels like so long ago, but to some five years isn't a long time. Five years ago, I had fallen pregnant with my husband's first child. I dropped out of college and became a stay at home mom around my 7th month of my first pregnancy, upon my then boyfriend now husband's request. He didn't have to do too much persuading as I was already considering it due to struggling with fatigue, waddling, and brain fog. He was right, it was only going to get more difficult for me to walk to classes not to mention trying to think once in the classroom.
It was the right decision for us and his growing baby. But, most all my friendships faded now that I wasn't on campus anymore. You were the only one that came and visited me sometimes, we were best friends and we had met in women's history class. You were so inspired in that class, I could see the passion in your eyes when you spoke about feminism. I was inspired by your spirit, and for a long time I held on to the idea that feminism is about a woman's right to choose, and I made the choice to be a stay at home mom.
Our lifestyles are so different, years went by and our friendship faded more and more. Until one day you showed up at my husband's doorstep. It had been a long while since I had seen you, last we met up my husband and I had 2 children and now we have 5 with his 6th on the way.
Of course I invite you in. My husband is at work and my children are all down for a nap except for our current youngest who I am holding and nursing as we sit at the kitchen table.
You had been so worried about me recently, but now that you are here you take pause. The house was lovely and tidy, the tea I served you was comforting and delicious, and on top of that I was absolutely glowing. Then you notice, the bump I'm sporting moves as the baby inside rolls and kicks. Without thinking you start rubbing my belly, like some sort of strange magnetism, your hands were drawn to it. I scoot closer to you to invite you to continue.
"I've been worried about you" the words you've been meaning to say all this time spill out of you.
An incredulous gasp leaves me when I ask you why you've been worried about me.
"I see your posts on social media, I know this is your sixth in just as many years... congratulations by the way" You stumbled through your words. "Is this what you really want?" You look up from my belly to search my eyes for an answer.
"Of course! This is my choice" I gesture to my home. Which is to you: my cushy prison.
"No it's not, you can't tell that lie to me! I was there, I know what really happened!" You stand up, outraged. "He knocked you up and told you to drop out, he's controlling you and has kept you stuffed full of babies ever since so you can't leave! So you can't live your own life!" The passion in your voice was tinged with some kind of hurt, or jealousy?
"well hold on, you're right our first was a surprise to me. But, I am so happy. I really feel like my experiences have shown me this is the way life is meant to be." I try to soothe you, to call you down from the edge you've gotten yourself onto. "So no need to worry for me okay?" I smile to you, hoping you'll smile back.
When you smile and sit back down, I notice how worn thin you are. Your skin and hair is dull, the way you conduct yourself is full of sloppy and tired movements.
"How are you, are you happy? Have you found your calling?" I ask, but already see the answer.
"Well I'm fine. Work is okay but it's not what it was cracked up to be. All the guys at work are losers, and they are always pissing me off. I do wonder if I haven't found my calling, yeah, maybe I majored in the wrong thing." Your sharp defensive tone falls to a nagging grumble as you go on and on.
"it's a little late to start all over like that and go back to school." I point out.
"You think I should keep sticking it out and climb the ladder?" You try to muster some hope into your voice.
"Actually I was thinking the opposite, you should quit that job. Look for something easier and part time. Do you have a partner? Surely he makes more than you and wouldn't mind you leaning on him for support." I ask, thinking surely you can't have stayed single all this time.
"What do you mean surely he makes more than me?! And no I don't have a boyfriend!" You bolt up again, feeling attacked.
You stormed out on me that day with your ego bruised. But you came back around. My words still stung, because I had a point. It gnawed at you and you couldn't help but try taking my advice. You did get that part-time job, and you spent your new found extra free time at my house helping me with my children and to-do list. With working less you were already doing so much better, not near as stressed, cleared skin, and your hair had shine again.
You slowly but surely stepped away from being career focused as I got you more and more comfortable with domesticity. Women belong in the home, so it was naturally very easy for you to fit right in to the lifestyle. My husband took us shopping as I needed bigger maternity clothes and you definitely needed something more becoming of an available young woman.
Then one day, I had you stay over for dinner and my husband brought one of his colleagues home with him to have dinner with us. The match making game had begun. Now that you were completely ready to settle down and assume the natural role of a woman beneath a man, serving him and birthing his children, any man would be so lucky to have you. You've become such an enlightened woman in these modern times where so many silly girls still cling to feminism like you once did.
Today you're absolutely beaming and radiant. You've announced your pregnancy! Your husband's first baby is officially on the way. I'm so happy for you and I hug you best I can with my husband's 7th due any day now. I'm truly proud of the woman you've become and will continue to grow to be.
(I'm so sorry I'm a confrontation person and not a manipulation person, I did my best, it's still something, I hope you enjoy!)

Weedman (Eddie x Reader fluff) 18+only!
This was originally going to be smut but I got distracted by the idea of flirting with Eddie while he makes bad jokes. Just over 800 words, no pronouns are used for reader.
Warnings: Lots of drug use talk, reader's mom speaks of food in a negative way, there's a joke about sex work but it isn't at any sex-workers' expense (it's just Eddie being silly) reader is a stressed out college student, I think that's all.
*I also wanted to mention, I did not come up with the joke Eddie makes at the beginning of the phone call, it's just something I've heard around and I'm not sure where it originates from
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Part 2 is here
You had just finished exams for your Junior year of college and you were drained. Normally, you would stay in the city while working for the summer, but this year you decided to take a break and go back home to stay with your family. You had hoped this time off would provide some much-needed relaxation. Speaking of relaxation, you had become a bit of a pothead while away from home. The amount of weight that magic little flower would lift from your shoulders was incredible. You hadn't smoked in high school, but you remembered the local dealer at the time. "Reefer Rick" how could you forget a name like that? Unluckily for you, Rick was picked up last month and wouldn't be out until your break was long over.
You thought this may be for the best. You had been smoking pretty regularly to help alleviate the stress of school, maybe a tolerance break could help reset your nerves. Then that night your mom asked if you were really going to have dessert since you already had a roll with dinner. You realized weed might not be enough to get you through this break. Maybe horse tranquilizers or a lobotomy would do the job.
After dessert, which you savored every bite of, you went to your room and decided to try to find a new supplier. After a few unhelpful phone calls consisting of people reminiscing about high school (how could these people miss hell so much?), you decided to call Robert Swan. He was a friend of a friend who seemed to know just about everything about everyone in Hawkins. Robert let you know that Rick had someone dealing underneath him.
"Huh, I never took Rick for the "management" type."
"Well, he's not exactly running a Burger King but yeah, he's making his way up. Oh my god, did you hear about-"
Robert rambled to you, gossiping about people you couldn't care enough about to remember. After "oh really?" and "no way"-ing your way through the conversation, you got the information for the dealer, thanked Robert, and said goodbye before he could trap you into listening any longer.
You sighed while looking at the paper you had written the dealer's information on. "Eddie Munson" the name was unfamiliar to you.
You dialed the number given to you and after a few rings, a man answered.
"Hawkin's mortuary, you kill 'em, we chill 'em. Would you like to make a reservation?" You took a second to process what he said before realizing the joke.
"Yes, please. Embalming table for two?"
He laughed and sounded embarrassed "Oh shit, I thought you were someone else. Sorry about that. Thanks for playing along."
"No problem. Out of curiosity, who did you think I was?"
"My uncle, he calls me on his lunches at work sometimes to check in, it's fun to mess with him, make him laugh."
"That's sweet he checks on you."
"Yeah, I guess it is." Eddie leaned against the wall twirling the phone cable with his finger.
"Oh, who is this, by the way?"
You tell him your name and how you heard about him.
"Words getting around that I'm the new go-to man, huh? Maybe I should make business cards."
You reply, "What would they say? Eddie Munson: amateur herbalist?"
He laughs and says, "Was thinking: 'Eddie Munson: Dungeon Master, Musician, Weedman, Phone Sex Operator.' Maybe add a drawing of a wizard or a dragon too."
You giggle at his silliness and say, "Don't forget to add mortician to that. How's the phone sex business treating you?"
"Not great, still haven't figured out where my dick goes in the phone." you hold your head in your hands and laugh. He laughs along with you.
You look at the clock, it's already midnight.
"I guess I should ask you about buying since that's the reason I called."
"Oh yeah. Shit, this salesman stuff is hard. How much do you want?"
"What can $50 get me?"
"$50 worth of weed."
You roll your eyes "Sounds like a deal. Can we meet tomorrow? Say 10 am?"
"10 am?! What am I, a doctor?! Who gets up at 10 am during the summer?"
You laugh and say, "Sorry, I didn't think about your beauty sleep. Please forgive me. How about 2 pm?"
"He agrees and gives you his address
"It's a date. Have a goodnight, sweetheart."
"Sweet dreams, Weedman."
Once you hang up the phone, you realize you've been bouncing your leg this entire time. You're unsure if it's from the general nerves or the fact that you've been flirting with a stranger. Was that even flirting or were the two of you just idiots? You think about tracking down your old yearbook to see if he's in there, but decide maybe it'll be better to have the mysterious Weedman's appearance be a surprise.

Dear Bots, Bounties and Babes Readers and Fans. I Apologize, But The Project Has Been Put On Hold...
For the full explanation, please read below. I preface all this with the following: PLEASE do not spam or bother the other author/artist involved. They have every right to pursue the path they've chosen... For those who log onto the story now on AO3, you will notice that there is an 'orphan_account' that stands beside my handle. I don't understand the 'why' behind it, but @enigmacomics (enigmacomics.tumblr.com since the link will no longer work) has decided to sever all ties with me... They work exceptionally hard, and run many events and have a job while still attending college. They have incredible ambition, and personal life goals to meet. When it came to our story, I always tried my best to assure them that I understand school comes first. I graduated art college as well, so I understand the time that needs to be devoted to improving yourself. During our last conversation, it had been a particularly busy month, so no writing took place at all. Which was fine with me. Finals and shopping alone can destroy all your time. The last time I spoke with them, everything appeared fine. We were discussing holiday plans and decided to doodle a bit together on Discord during the break. They were even planning on sending something in the mail. A week goes by without a word or a parcel, but thats fine. Holidays are crazy. I message them once with a link to comic I think they'd enjoy. Week two goes by. Now that's odd. We haven't gone that long without speaking to each other in months. I message them a cat gif playing with a Christmas tree, wishing them a good holiday. The day before new years eve, still no answer. I ask them if they're alright, and that they can talk to me if about anything if they needed help or support. As of New Years Eve (11:30pm or so) I went to send them a doodle I did with a 'Happy New Years' attached... ....and it didn't send. They had blocked me on Discord. Than I saw their tumblr was blocked. I tried to reach out to them on Instagram, asking why they had blocked me, and that I was more than open to have a dialogue and listen if they needed. But they blocked me again. And than finally I noticed than that they orphaned our story... I've been worried sick about them. And scared that I some how am the cause. I don't know what I've done, if anything at all. If it's an outside third party causing all this, if they're going through something mentally strenuous and need help... Or maybe, if I didn't know my friend as well as I thought. If I really ever did.
I really hope they're not in trouble. Or that I'm the cause.
I heard that they still have an online presence and that they are still uploading things elsewhere. I thought these past 10 months together were amazing, and that we were having a blast. If this is what they truly want, I'll respect that. But I admit... my heart feels like it's been shattered. The story was wild and so much fun, but it's not what I cared about most. It's them. And 'if' I'm why they wanted to leave, I gotta respect that. I just thought I was worth a bit more. A conversation. An apology. A goodbye... Sorry. It weirdly feels like I'm grieving... Anyway we managed to bring ACT 1 to a close. I'll be uploading the rest of the chapters in massive chunks, so, at least ya'll get to see what we made. And who knows. If they come back one day, maybe we can do more. Or maybe we can do something else.

The day had been going smoothly for Steve at Family Video; he was working with Robin, it wasn’t a busy day, and he had caught up on inventory. He had more of a pep in his step today, due to the fact that you would be coming over to his house after his shift today. Robin was helping him sort through the new arrivals when the phone rang in the back room. Robin stood and waved Steve off, telling him that she would answer it and that it was probably Mrs. Perkins asking about the newest films they had in stock. He continued to sort through the films, mind trailing back to you. You were supposed to be coming over to his house after you got done running errands, you parents out of town for the weekend visiting the rest of your family out of state.
“Steve!” Robin was throwing the door open and running over to him, shoving his jacket, wallet and keys into his hands. “You have to go, now. Y/N was in a car accident and they’re transporting her to Hawkins Hospital now.” Steve fumbled to grab his stuff, panic rising in his throat at the news. He tried to comprehend what Robin had just said as he slid his wallet into his pocket.
“I-Is she okay?” He stuttered out, throwing his jacket on. Robin only shrugged, lips pulled together in a thin line. “Shit. Will you be okay here by–”
“Steve, just go. Make sure she’s okay for me.” Robin insisted, ushering him out the door. He ran to his car, no other thought in his head other than you. He didn’t really register starting his car and tearing out of the parking lot, but he blinked and found himself already halfway to the hospital. His left leg bounced nervously and his grip on the steering wheel was tight, worry threatening to pull him under.
You were everything to Steve. You had met when he started working at Scoops and Steve had instantly fallen for you. You had this effect on him to where he could barely speak around you, he would trip over himself, and he was just altogether flustered around you. His cool persona was instantly demolished when you entered the room.
For a while, Steve hated that he liked you so much because it was like you barely even noticed him. He swore that you didn't even know he existed sometimes. He started avoiding you for a while, trying to fight the crush he had. You had asked Robin what you had done wrong, unaware of Steve’s feelings that you reciprocated. He tried so desperately to get rid of his crush on you because he was absolutely terrified of getting his heart broken again, yet he couldn’t shake it.
After he came to terms with it, he started looking forward to seeing you. The both of you started having more fun on your shifts, often going home with your stomachs hurting from laughing too much. You both were still completely oblivious of each other’s feelings and Robin was about to have an aneurysm about it. You had planned to tell Steve how you felt, but you had figured out there was a secret Russian base beneath you and that had put quite the damper on your plans. The Russians had injected you, Robin, and Steve with truth serum and after you had escaped, still drugged up and sitting on the floor of the bathroom, you had told Steve you loved him.
Steve, having just gotten done puking his brains out in the stall next to you, had been thoroughly shocked. After a minute, he had slid into your stall, but cringed when you started throwing up. The drug had taken more time to wear off for you than him and Robin.
He had taken you out on a few dates before you both made things official and Steve absolutely adored you. He only had eyes for you and he loved you with every ounce of his being. He had even bought a ring already, entirely sure that you were the only one for him.
The thought of you being hurt shook him to his core. He pulled into the parking lot and tried his best to be calm. Maybe he was just overthinking the whole situation and you were just a bit scratched up and bruised. Hawkins hospital was a small hospital– it was a small town after all, you didn’t need a giant hospital and before all of the Upside Down shit had gone down, there were only a few accidents here and there that called for a hospital. He walked in, quickly finding the front desk and jogging over, ignoring the rude glares he got from others in the lobby.
“Hi, I just got a call that Y/N Y/L/N was admitted here?” He tried his best to smile at the receptionist, but it only chalked up to a grimace.
“Relation?” She peered over her glasses at him, eyes scanning his face.
“Dammit– I’m her boyfriend. Her parents are out of town and all of her other family lives out of state.” He ran a hand through his hair, losing his patience quickly with the lady.
“She’s on floor three, but I’m sorry, her condition is cri– sir!” Steve was already halfway to the staircase as she called after him. He flew up the stairs, taking them two to three at a time. He pushed open the third floor door, repeating the same process with this reception desk.
“I’m here for Y/L/N.” He breathed, leaning his elbows down on the counter of the desk. She frowned at him, sympathy in her stare.
“Honey, she’s in surgery now. You’re free to sit in the waiting room and we’ll call you–”
“Surgery? How bad was the accident?” Steve was panicking now, hands shaking slightly.
“Chief Powell is in the waiting room, he can explain, hun.” She motioned with her head towards the room on her right. Steve didn’t like how vague she was being, it didn't bode well for you. He walked into the waiting room, seeing Chief Powell sitting on the far end, arms resting on his knees and hat in his hands. There were only a couple of other people in the room, but they sat on the opposite side. He straightened up when he saw Steve approach him.
“What happened?” Steve’s voice cracked; he just wanted some damn answers and no one was giving him any. He just wanted to make sure his girl was okay.
“Sit down, son.” Steve sat down across from him, jaw clenched. These were all bad signs. The reassurance he had convinced himself of on the drive here was looking less and less like a reality. “She was hit at the Barton, Oak, and Howard intersection by a pickup. They hit her driver’s side and the impact rolled her into the ditch. When we arrived, she was passed out and we got her free from the car. Once we got her out, she had no pulse.” Steve stopped breathing. No pulse. You had died. “The medics revived her on scene and transported her here. She’s in surgery right now for a collapsed lung and some shrapnel in her abdomen and arms. Unfortunately, everything is touch and go right now, son.” Steve didn’t move, eyes locked on the tan wall behind the chief. He sat there for a moment longer before the anxiety in his stomach crept up his throat.
He was rushing to the nearest bathroom, quick to throw open the door and duck into the first stall. His knees hit the tile and he heaved into the toilet, white-knuckling the porcelain. Tears dripped down his cheeks as he finished, leaning back on his heels. His mind drifted to the first time you ever told him that you loved him in the mall bathroom after escaping the Russian base.
“Fuck.” He breathed, flushing the toilet and standing. Steve didn’t think he could even process what losing you would mean. You were everything to him. You understood him and loved him for who he was. You didn’t let his past taint your view of him now– you understood that people grew up and learned lessons. You loved him for him. No one had ever loved him like you did. And he didn’t want anyone else to love him. He only wanted you.
It had been a couple of days since the accident and you were finally on the better side of recovery. Everything had gone smooth with your surgery and you were recovering in one of the hospital rooms. You had spent the first day after surgery sleeping, but Steve had been there regardless, holding your hand and staying by your side to keep you company. He had prayed to a god above that you would be okay and he had been thankful that his prayers were answered. He viewed his time with you as precious now, soaking in every second he had with you.
The second day you were in and out of sleep. You would wake for maybe half an hour, then go back to sleep for a few more hours. Steve had been there every time you woke, asking if you were okay, if you needed anything, and telling you he loved you so much.
It was the third day and when you woke up, you were actually lucid, staying awake for more than just a couple hours.
“Hey, Stevie.” You opened your eyes, seeing him in the chair next to your bed where he had been the last few days. You gave him a weak smile and he returned it, setting down the crossword he had been working on. It was early morning and the sun streaming through the windows bathed the room in a warm glow. His hands cupped your face and he leaned in, kissing your forehead gently.
“Hi, sweetheart. How are you feeling?” kept one hand on your face, thumb tracing the curve of your cheek.
“I’m okay. The pain medication is doing its job,” you chuckled. He nodded and moved the hand on your cheek to brush back the stray hairs that had fallen onto your forehead.
“I’m so happy you’re okay. I was so scared I had lost you.” He mumbled, fingers tracing your jaw line. The last couple of days Steve had remained composed for your sake, not wanting to stress you out when you were already dealing with so much. The flood of emotions he had been holding back were slowly seeping their way through; you could hear it in his voice and see it in the way he looked at you.
“I was scared.” You admitted quietly. You frowned as Steve’s face fell, eyebrows pulling together and lips turning downward. “I thought that was the end of me. I didn’t want to die.” You whispered, tears brimming your eyes. Steve sat down on the edge of your bed, shushing you and wiping the tears from your cheeks.
“You’re here. We’re okay. You're still here with me.” He comforted you, hands running up and down your arms, being careful of the IV in the crook of your elbow. You scooted to the side on the bed, grimacing in pain and Steve got the message, moving to sit beside you. He gently pulled you back towards him and you rested the back of your head on his chest. He ran one of his hands through your hair and the other found one of your hands, lacing your fingers together. “I love you.”
You breathed out, shoulders sagging against him. You closed your eyes, tiredness seeping into your bones. “I love you too, Stevie.” You opened your eyes and stared up at him. His coffee, brown eyes met your and he smiled, lowering his head to kiss you. You smiled into the kiss.
You were here, alive, with the person you loved most. You would be okay.

Hey Galena!
Just a lil something i've been thinking about: How did Vincent meet Marius?
They're like the same age so they had to have met at presumably school or somewhere but to go from classmates to working for Marius? There's a story here and we're not getting it.
What are your thoughts on this? (back again with increasing Galena's Marius posts)
Hi hi Rose!
I'm so sorry for the delayed response, the combination of me being busy + the time it took to think about the ask (because it's really interesting!) meant that I took much longer to answer than I normally would.
[WC: 0.9K]
Actually for some reason I had assumed Vincent was a little older than Marius (thus following the pattern of Marius being the boss of people older than him), but I looked Vincent up in the ToT wiki and there is no canonical age. And it's true, Vincent does look really young! He could honestly pass off as 19 if he really wanted to!
But: to be able to work for the von Hagens, one thing is clear: you have to be exceptional. And since Vincent has been working for Marius for what seems like a fairly long time now (since he's trusted to do NXX work), I'm guessing he's probably around 20-ish by now.
So that brings us all back to what you said: he's probably super close in age to Marius.
We know that Payton has been working for the von Hagens since he was in his 20's (Blizzardous Threads of Red), and so there's no reason to think that it's not the same with Marius.
But let's follow the timeline: Marius only returns to Stellis after the Giann incident, which means we can probably surmise that Vincent only started working for him around then (the exception being: Vincent worked for Giann before and was just sorta... transferred). This isn't a long time at all, it's actually about the same amount of time Marius has known Vyn (which hey, means he got introduced to Vyn and Vincent, the two... uh.. Vin's).
So this is possibility #1.
Marius needs a P.A., Vincent wants an internship/job/work experience at a nice company so he can get some good things to put on his CV. For various reasons we'll brush over, he arrives at Pax and that's when Marius meets him (possibly through a series of interviews where Marius and/or Austin search for a good P.A.).
These are the Personal Assistant Trials, or PAT, if you will, where Vincent eventually comes out as candidate number one.
This feels to me like a fairly logical thing that could happen, but I also want to explore the other possibilities that could have occurred -- I mean canon hasn't said anything, so until then I have lots of space to play around with!
Possibility #2: Meet Cute (but platonic)
So let's say the whole PAT thing never actually happened, or that it did happen but Marius wasn't satisfied with the applicants (because they were all insincere or not the right fit or something).
Let's say Marius is still searching for the perfect assistant and Vincent, a fellow college student, is looking for a part time job to pay the bills. Maybe something happens where Vincent demonstrates his Highly Capable Skills and Marius decides to offer him an interview.
Like: it's 2 in the morning and Marius and Vincent end up being the only students left in the library, Marius because he really needs to finish an essay that was actually due at midnight and Vincent is there for... whatever.
Marius is absolutely exhausted, he's had a long day with classes and dealing with Pax and other people, and then he glances over at Vincent, who for some reason is still going strong. Like, he's typing on a computer with one hand and photocopying a textbook chapter in the other, and in the extra seconds where he doesn't need to hold down the textbook, he's crossing off various things on his to-do list.
Marius leans over and sees one of the things on the to-do list is a bit less easy to check off, like get a job or go to an interview, and his 2 am brain puts two and two together. He fumbles around for his business card and takes that leap of faith.
Possibility #3: They knew each other from the start
Okay, last scenario for now.
Actually, this one is where I try to explain why exactly Marius trusts Vincent so much, and it's if they had already met. Like, maybe Vincent was one of the good kids at school, like not just a good kid in the academic sense, but actually good to him. Maybe it went like this: Vincent never tried to take advantage of him, Vincent always smiled at him in the hallway, Vincent always offered him a juice box when he brought extra.
And so as they grow up and go their separate ways: with Marius taken out of school after the freezer incident and then later going off to Florence to pursue art, and Vincent doing... whatever Vincent does. (Accounting? Economics?) And when Marius returns to Stellis, now in need of someone he can count on, and he thinks of that one smart, quiet kid in class who had always been nice to him. He tracks him down eventually and they catch up, exchanging general how have you been's and what have you been up to's. Vincent admits that he's been looking for a job now, but hasn't had any luck since he's got virtually nothing on his CV. And something clicks in Marius' mind as he realizes there is a way they can both get what they want.
So yeah! I'm sure there are loads of other possibilities as to how they met, but this is what I have for now. Marius and Vincent's friendship is pretty subtle and lowkey in canon, but I genuinely think that they both care for each other in some way -- especially, again, if Marius trusts him enough with NXX work. Now that I think of it, we totally should have more Marius & Vincent content that isn't just "hey Vincent look at this database for me" / "okay cool be back in five".
Thanks for stopping by Rose!! I had a lot of fun with this ask :D

Unwind (Wheeler Yuta x Reader) (18+)
Summary: College Au. A stressed-out Wheeler visits you late at night.
Warnings: ...(*sits in the corner*) I deadass- I don't even know. Oral (reader receiving), soft domme vibes, I hope.
Enjoy?????
♡♡♡♡♡♥︎♡♡♡♥︎♡♡♡♡♡
You were just about to head to turn your light off for the night when you heard a knock on your door. A familiar knock. You didn't bother putting on any pants, the man at your door had seen you in just your underwear and a t-shirt more times than you could count.
You opened the door up for him, and let him in, quickly closing it behind him. You heard him panting as you locked the door. Did he run all the way here?
"I know it's really late,...but- can I crash here for tonight?"
"Sure." you turned, watching him wipe the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, his face flushed dark red. It was pretty late, past midnight, though occasionally you still heard walking and restless noise in the hall, it was a Friday night after all. Who was asleep before midnight on a Friday night?
"I'll be good, I promise."
"I know, " you said as he set his backpack onto the empty bed across the room. Good thing you lucked out and didn't have a roommate this year. Otherwise, this would be pretty hard to explain to...anyone.
You watched as he undressed, kicking off his sneakers and stripping off his sweats until he was left in just underwear. You flopped onto your bed, head against your pillows, still watching him. Immediately, you noticed the bandage on his knee, but you chose not to ask yet. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
"About what?"
"Yuta."
He scratched the back of his neck and shrugged, not looking at you. "I've just- been studying too long. Needed to get away, you know? Plus Daniel's got a girl over, I'm kind of doing him a favor." he shut off the lamp on your desk, the only light left in the room from the streetlights outside.
"I know. You've been working hard all week. Did you eat today?"
"Yeah," He crawled on top of you, and you laid in a familiar position; his arms around you and head against your chest while you rubbed his back, playing with his hair. "Sorry I haven't texted you, just been busy..." he mumbled, arms squeezing tighter around you.
"Its fine, did you drink water?"
"Had to, we had practice for almost three hours." He answered as you pressed a kiss a kiss against his forehead.
"Three hours, in that heat?" you frowned, you shifted a bit so your legs were intertwined better.
"Only for like, half of that," he yawned. "Scraped my knee doing midfield stuff, though, that sucked."
"Poor baby."
"Its nothing, just Coach Mox's orders. Then I crashed for like two hours-"
"Is that why you weren't in history?"
"Yeah, then I ate and took a shower and studied-"
"Then you ran here."
"Yeah."
"Get some sleep then, and I'll help you tomorrow, okay?" You promised, giving his chin a scratch through his soft beard before moving back to his hair. He hesitated a bit before mumbling "okay".
You laid in silence, listening to the hum of the A/C and the sound of his breathing. Feeling him shift occasionally against you, nothing out of the usual.
Until you felt something against your leg.
"Wheels..." You said gently.
"I'm sorry."
"You want me to help you?"
"No, no. It'll go away. Fuck-" his breath hitched, the embarrassment in his voice cut off as you moved your thigh against him. "Babe-"
"You've been good, Wheels, you've had a long week. If you want something, just ask," you assured him, feeling him sigh against your chest.
"I don't know what I want." He sighed, obviously frustrated.
"Do you want me to give you head? Or a hand job? Do you need to fuck me, baby?"
After a few moments, he nodded.
"Use your words."
"I need- I wanna fuck you." He made to get up, and you pulled him back down for a kiss. His lips parted for you, with ease. His warm hands rubbed up and down your sides, groaning as you led him. After a bit, his mouth left yours, trailing down, beard tickling your neck as he sucked at the sensitive skin. He pulled away just in time, you had almost let a whine escape from your lips.
You looked at him, his soft brown eyes catching yours. "What's the magic word?"
"Please?"
"There it is." You pulled away and laid back down, listening to the sound of the bed creaking, as he got up to kneel between your legs. A warm hand went to your hip, making to grab your panties. You pulled it away. "Not without protection, Wheelie, you know that."
"I know. I wanna please you first, I gotta..." You caught his drift, guiding his hand back to your hip and letting him pull your panties off.
"Are you sure? You don't have to worry-"
"Yes, I do. I want to, I promise." Wheeler murmured. A knot formed in your stomach as hands touched your thighs, his breath over you as you put your legs on his shoulders.
"Be careful about your neck-"
"Don't worry about me, just lay back."
You nodded, ruffling his hair before doing as asked. "Ready?"
"Ready," he murmured, laying a kiss against your thigh. He went to work, face between your legs, kissing and licking at you until he made his way to your clit, applying intense pressure with his tongue before wrapping his lips around your clit.A whimper escaped as your lips as your hips bucked against his mouth, hand moving back to gently tug at his short hair.
"Can you breathe-are you- oh fuck." You arched your back, hand moving to the back of his head, pushing him forward. He continued to suck and moan against you, holding your hips in place with one hand while the other one reached between his legs to rub himself through his underwear.
He left your quickly hardening clit, trailing down to kiss you again and tease your entrance with his tongue, then moving back, barely giving you room to catch your breath, barely able to keep your eyes open. You struggled to keep your thighs from clenching around his head as he brought you closer the edge You shut your eyes, your twitching clit giving in as you dripped against his tongue, falling back agaisnst the mattress as the pleasure made you dizzy. You felt his hand leave your hip.
Wheeler pulled away. You opened your eyes, watching as he got back up to kneel between your legs again. His beard looked damp as he wiped the around his mouth. He pulled his hand away, revealing a smile. "It was that good, huh? I'm getting better at it, right?"
You nodded as you tried to catch your breath. "You did good, baby. Really good."
"Cool." He got off the bed and got on the floor, reaching underneath to open your trunk. "Do- do you want to use the lube too?"
"Yeah, " you said as you watched him stand up, tugging down his briefs. He got back on the bed, where he was before, sitting the lube down by his hip. You sat up and took the condom from his hand. You looked down at his cock, now free from the confines of his underwear. "Can I touch you?"
"Yeah," He said quickly, nodding his head. A whine slipped from his lips as carassed his sack, then moved up to tease the head of his cock with your fingers, spreading the precum around the tip. "Babe-" you hushed him with a kiss, pressing your lips against his for just a moment.
"We gotta keep it down 'cause it's late, remember?"He nodded as you pulled away to tear open the condom, gently pulling it down on and over him. "Good boy." You took the lube and opened it, pouring a bit in your hand to rub the cold gel against yourself. You gave it back to him and laid back down, spreading your legs.
You gripped the sheets as he entered you, his dick stretching you open and sinking into your wet heat. One hand gripped your hip while the other rest by your head to steady himself. "Can you put your legs up, on my should- yeah, like that. Does it feel good?"
"Yes." You nodded, shifting your hips. He bit his lip as he began to move, slowly rocking into you. You met his rhythm, reaching a hand between your legs to rub and tease yourself as he moved in you. Trying to pace himself with his strokes, though you knew he was aching for more.
"Feels good, feels so fucking good," Wheeler grunted as his hands move to grip your legs as he began to deepen his strokes.
You tossed your head back and shut your against your pillows as you applied more pressure against yourself. Your breath hitched and you moaned, his own pace quickening in you, the sound of his skin against yours soon echoing softly in the room. You tossed your head back and shut your as you applied more pressure against yourself.
"I know, I know- you feel so fucking..." He whined, bucking into you as you clenched around him. His hands moved to either side of you, gripping your sheets. You moved your legs, hooking them around his waist, hips now raised off the bed. You moved your hands to his back, nails digging in as you felt yourself getting closer to your climax.
You cried out as you came around him, as he lost himself, his thrusting getting slower until he went stiff, panting your name above you. A moment passed before he kissed your forehead, pulling out.
"I fucking needed that." He rested on top of you after disposing if the condom, and you snuggled against eachother once more.
"I know." you rubbed his back, struggling to keep your eyes open as you looked at the ceiling.
"I love you, Y/N," Wheeler mumbled.
"Love you too, now get some rest, babe." you whispered. Soon he drifted off to sleep, content and calm in your arms, and you soon followed.

20 Questions Game for Fic Writers
Tagged by @blairwaldcrf ! Thank you, dear! <3
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
As of right now, 1214 works! Damn, I've been busy :D"
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
Currently at 9,167,371 words, slowly inching toward the 10 million mark!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Oh gosh, the total list is so long at this point, with various one-off kind of deals, or fandoms I've moved on from.
I am currently considering myself an active writer in these fandoms though: Shadowhunters, Percy Jackson, Detective Conan/Magic Kaito, DC Comics.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Sorted by kudos, my top 5 fics are:
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (Marvel, Loki/Tony), with 7,945
My College Boyfriend (PJO, Nico/Percy), with 6,353
The Lion's Pride (Voltron, Shiro/Keith/Lance), with 6,163
The Ghost King of Summers High (PJO, Nico/Percy), with 5,600
Percy Jackson, Ambassador of Hades (PJO, Nico/Percy), with 4,985
Which actually looked really fucked up because yeah sure there's four super popular multi-chapter fics of mine. And then there is My College Boyfriend, which isn't just a oneshot, it is a oneshot with under 3k words. What. What.
And the, quite frankly frustrating, part here is that this oneshot only has 24 comments. Not even every 100th reader felt the need to leave a comment. That's just... so sad. Like. Genuinely, I think the kudos system broke commenting because the convenience of pressing a button beat actually expressing yourself genuinely through words and from the bottom of my heart, I find that depressing as fuck.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Always. Every single one of them. Because comments mean something. Someone took the time to tell you, with words, that they liked your work and maybe even what they liked about it.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ooof, multiple contestants from back in my day when I wrote German fics for the Beyblade fandom and wrote about... darker themes. Not all fics used to have happy endings. I wrote some fics that ended in a suicide, so I guess those.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Impossible to answer, because for as long as I've been active in English writing, all my fics have had happy endings. The guy gets the guy, the girl gets the girl, and they live happily ever after. The world is saved or the evil defeated, maybe there's even an epilogue of a next gen in there. That's my standard, it ends happily. So that makes it impossible to pick one that somehow ends happier than the rest. xD
8. Do you get hate on fics?
loool
Right. Sorry. Yeah. Yeah, of course. Funnily enough, never on the things you would assume attract hatred - the incest, the explicitly non-con stuff.
Nah, I got death threats and words that were somehow worse than death threats on my Oliver/Felicity fics in the DC fandom... a... straight canon ship... but not the canon ship from the multiverse that these vile assholes liked, so, ya know. Threaten the fans who love a ship you hate.
Also over the years, lotta nasty general homophobia for Nico/Percy in the PJO fandom - I have been writing in this fandom since 2010, and yes, there were really a lot of people especially in the earlier years who just hated the idea of making either Percy or Nico gay.
And the dumbasses who declare Jace/Alec incest and thus hate and threaten this ships fans in the Shadowhunters fandom. But still, inexplicably, like Alec. Even though, in canon, he's the one who was in love with Jace. I don't know, but if you claim the nasty, nasty incest is The Bad Thing, I think you should hate the character with the nasty, nasty incestuous feelings, instead of the fans who write perfectly tagged and filterable fics. But that's just me, I guess.
So yeah, top three of hatred I got over the years - but if you wanna read a highlight reel of bullshit hate mail I got, feel free to go and check out my Dear Anonymous Shitheads tag!
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
All kinds of smut? I don't know how to answer this question, to be honest. xD
I've written oral, anal, vaginal, mlm, wlw, m/m/f, rare m/f ships but usually either she pegs or it's ABOverse and she's an alpha, I generally pepper in some flavors of BDSM into it, I've written dub-con and non-con before, bestiality, double penetrations. I have written a lot.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?
Oh, that is absolutely going to my first ever crossover. Because my usual crossovers are, ya know, that Big Four animated movie crossover verse (Tangled/Brave/HTTYD/RotG), or "I like these two fandoms, how would A's characters fit into B's world/how would B's characters fit into A's world?" for... essentially all my fandoms, and I wouldn't call any of these crazy - because the Big Four crossover is a beast of an own fandom so it's not really "original" or far out there to write for it, and in all my other crossovers, I do pride myself on making it work, like, not just throwing characters together but fitting their backstories and special powers into how the other world works.
So the craziest one is absolutely A Hundred Times Over, which is a oneshot sequel to my first-ever English-written fic and was written as a celebration because it was my 100th fic back then.
The original fic was already a crossover between Detective Conan and PJO, so for the celebration I thought "okay so what if I throw in my current obsession - Doctor Who - and my first ever ship - Shere Khan/Bagheera?". So, yeah, this crossover between Detective Conan, Percy Jackson, Doctor Who and Jungle Book has to be my craziest so far.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
So often. So, so, so, so often.
If you see my fics on watpad or any other platform that isn't AO3 or Fanfiction.net - and if you see them on those two but posted by an author that ISN'T Takara Phoenix - then please, let me know. Drop me a link wherever you can, I always greatly appreciate being told that my fics have been stolen so I can report that person and have it taken down.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. All of the stealing of my fics has made me incredibly uncomfortable with the idea of my fics flowing around on other people's accounts or other websites, especially since the first like four or so stolen fics I had were translated.
Someone took my fics, translated them into Spanish and Russian, and posted them on other platforms, without ever asking my permission.
I don't want thieves to more easily slip through the cracks in between authorized repostings of my stories, so I have the blanket policy to not allow translations.
If you see my fics in other languages, tell me.
(There is one story that has been translated, but I'm not sure how far it counts, because I did the translating myself, and that's Lass Uns Etwas Dummes Tun/Looking For Something Dumb to Do. It is a PJO fic about Nico/Percy that I wrote in celebration for Germany legalizing gay marriage in 2017; I wrote it in German first, due to that, and then decided to translate it into English since I know my core-audience are English-speakers and not German-speakers.)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeees!!! With my wonderful, amazing, lovely @kimmycup!!! ^-^
We've written a total of five fics together so far.
Three Shadowhunters fics: Hurting and Healing, a Magnus/Jace oneshot, Three Times the Boys Felt Left Out, a Jordan/Simon/Jace oneshot, A King By Any Other Name, a Alec/Jace oneshot.
A Vampire Academy oneshot about Mason/Christian: The Chance at a Happily Ever After.
And, our pride and joy, our 51k multichapter Shadowhunters/Vampire Academy crossover fic about Mason/Christian and Simon/Jace: Double Puppy Dare.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
That's such a hard question to answer for me as a multishipper.
But to be quite honest, I think I would have to go with Kaito/Shinichi from Detective Conan/Magic Kaito?
It's the ship I've been the most consistently been faithful to and that, whenever I see it, sparks joy. That has proven that even when the fandom's gone dormant for me for months or years, it can reignite into a wildfire, where other fandoms just fizzle out and disappear from my interests then.
These two get me, they've been getting me for one and a half decades now and I doubt they'll stop any time soon.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
All of my unfinished German fics over on Animexx. When the German Beyblade fandom started to die, I tried to cling on, but at one point... when all your favorite writers, all your friends, have moved on? And then I started reading fics in English and soon after, also writing them in English. I feel bad about it, but it's just been far too long now.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Personally, I'd say world building. That's also my passion. I love creating elaborate worlds for my stories to take place in - I mean, damn, for the book series I'm writing, I developed my own language, religion and drew a map of the city it takes place in, among other things. A well-developed world is so important.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Oh, fight scenes and action and other things that...
When a character is good at a thing that I am not good in or know a lot about?
Like, when a character is super quippy and funny, but I am not really a one-liners-person so now I have to come up with quippy one-liners to capture his personality?
Or fighting or science, when a character is an expert in a field that I know nothing about and would not understand jackshit about even if I tried because it's not my wheelhouse? Those things, I really struggle with.
Also, I hate action and fight scenes. Like. That's the parts when I check my phone usually to avoid that my eyes glaze over from boredom. So, naturally, writing these things? Not fun. Not good at it either, imo. But certain fics - or rather, certain characters too - require action and fight scenes.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Painful if you have to use Google Translate. If you know the language? Yeah, go for it! If you have to resort to Google Translate? Maybe just write it in italics and note that it's in x language. It spares both, the native speakers who will die from second hand embarrassment, and the non-speakers who... won't understand it anyway.
But in the cases that I use foreign languages (and usually when I do, it's just... pet-names. Things you can't really fuck up that much and things that people would say in another language even in English-main-dialogues), I always put the translation right behind the sentence, because it's a special brand of obnoxious when you have to scroll ALL the way to the end of a chapter or fic to see what tf you just read, and then scroll back up again.
Hate doing that, so I won't do that to my readers.
19. First fandom you ever wrote for?
Oh, that's Yu-Gi-Oh!, with a hurt/comfort Kaiba/Joey fic.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Can't answer that, it always depends on my current mood which of my babies I love the most ;P
Tagging @kimmycup and @justonemorechapternicercy and @fallenqueen2 for this fun! And anyone else who wants to do it! <3

So I don't know if you'd have the time to read a specific text or not, but with the isolationism post going around now it seems like this is the most relevant time to ask? If you can't rn that's fine, I'm just curious to hear other people's thoughts on it, especially people who know more about American history than I do, because I studied Japanese history in college, and obviously compared to the isolation of Tokugawa Japan, America has never really come close to anything like that so I might be biased
Anyway, the essay I'm talking about is The Myth of American Isolationism by Bear Braumoeller, the pdf is available for free from Harvard (or it was when I checked earlier today). Nothing on his website gave me the impression he's crazy biased or super nationalistic and therefore unreliable, but I'll admit I didn't read any of his other work or anything to check
I guess what Braumoeller says just makes a lot of sense to me? I went through public school in America and had never even heard that we sent people to represent us at League of Nations meetings, especially not after we decided not to join, until I read this essay. I just remember being told we tried to cut ourselves off as much and as often as possible, but the foreign policy of the US in the 20s and 30s that Braumoeller points to and what I know of our foreign policy after that makes me feel like the US has never actually been as extreme about isolation as people make it sound?
Idk, I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts about his claims who have better knowledge of American history than I do, cause obviously my public high school didn't bother telling me that many details, and I know you gotta be careful reading about history from individual authors cause so many of them have a specific narrative they want to spin
Sorry this was so long
Apologies in advance for the length of this answer & if it's disjointed/repetitive. I've been really tired lately, but I hope it's still insightful. Take the following with a grain of salt yet an open mind.
Also to anyone with a better understanding of American foreign affairs and policy, I implore you to add to this post. Your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Alrighty, so I've been sitting on this one for a while. Mostly for the fact that foreign policy and international affairs are not what I study, even though often it's hand-in-hand with history. My primary study is also more geared toward archaeological conservation, field methods, and museum curation. I had to consult a friend for this who is more interested in this type of question. I would also say there are people within the fandom with a much better understanding of this than I do, and I would greatly appreciate their input on this.
It also took me a while to read the paper, which I could thankfully get through my university. No one's fault but mine. I'm easily unfocused.
I would personally argue that the United States has never been truly isolationist. Sure, we've had periods of fluctuating isolationist sentiment - something that Braumoeller even points out - but as he also rightly points out that this is relative, saying 'American isolationism' is most often challenged by the historian sect, "who tend to define isolationism by security policy," when it could be an ideology in more than one sphere of policy. It's not a cut-and-dry definition. One section of policy could ring with an isolationist leaning (no military action), but then a country stays involved in another manner (economic). One facet of public opinion could sound isolationist ("I want the US to mind its own business."), while another shows we'd rather stay involved ("But I don't want us to stop having an influence.").
In fact, I very much enjoy how Braumoeller phrases the American ability of the 1920s on the third page of the PDF: "...thanks to America's overwhelming strength, it could rely on banks rather than tanks:". Our security was economic rather than militaristic, in simpler terms. He goes on later in the paper to demonstrate how this strategy was used on more than one occasion. So, I would describe this behavior of the first half of the 20th century as non-intervention rather than isolationism.
Never have we cut our ties with the rest of the world completely nor necessarily tried to keep the world away, not even during periods often seen as isolationist. To look at a period of American history that I'm slightly more familiar with, we will use the Revolution and its aftermath as an example. I've seen it said by a fellow student that "post-colonial" America was in a state of isolation. This is untrue. Once again, this is a better described by non-intervention.
Let's look at the Barbary captives, three American merchant ships captured by "pirates" off the North African coast in 1784-1785. The Kingdom of Morocco became the first country to recognize US independence in 1777, reaching contact with us in 1778 via Ambassador Benjamin Franklin, staying in France. Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah also secured for the Americans security of trade, saying any ship flying the American flag might be welcomed in their ports. A later treaty, the Treaty of Friendship, was signed in 1786, then ratified in 1787, both as a promise between the two states and to afford further protection to American merchants. Of course, it wasn't foolproof, as American ships were still at risk of capture by non-participant states, but this showed an American desire to still be involved with the world. This also showed a world open to this brand-new country seeking entry. The Treaty of Friendship was our first treaty with a non-European power.
Past that, we still desired to trade with other (colonial) powers, such as selling to Saint Domingue (Haiti), which only ended with the start of the Haitian Revolution in 1791. 1784 also sees the beginnings of ties with China as an independent state, with the merchant ship Empress of China returning to Massachusetts shores after a 15-month voyage. Our influx of imports and news from Britain even rose back to comparable pre-Revolution levels by the mid-1780s, especially as British merchants began to demand American customers pay their debts. I realize I'm citing trade, but trade can be political and also is a form of economic involvement.
We often quote George Washington as warning us to stay out of European affairs; yes, this is true that he warned against this. But I would look at his words from the angle of not becoming militarily involved. Looking for more companionable relations rather than flirting with gunpowder and bayonets, or even inserting ourselves politically in many ways. America still very much entertained ties to the rest of the world after the Revolution and into the next century, but we did very little to be physically involved in their sphere.
I realize I've sort of sidetracked the question, but this was the best way I could figure to answer it. So, to compare US "isolationism" to the hard isolation of Tokugawa Japan would be incorrect; the brand of "isolationism" we tend to hear about here wouldn't even be close, in my opinion. We wanted to be left alone but did not want to give up on having an influence if that makes sense. Hell, there were times when we flirted with being involved, but didn't actually do so until later or until prompted by some interest. A necessitated carrot-on-a-stick type nation, I suppose.
Also man...I guess maybe my school was the odd one out in teaching that we still sent delegates to League discussions despite not formally being a part of it. You are not the first person I've heard say this.

what book are you currently reading?
not reading a book actually, but as part of research for my current uni project i've starting reading a CDA (Critical Discourse Analysis) called In the Hands of Morpheus: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Sleep, written by Eva Triebl.
not to bore anyone, but if you're curious it essentially discusses: Sleep as a public health issue, the exploitation of Sleep as a business opportunity (for example: the countless self-help books that are published; employers integrating workshops on Efficient Sleep (eg: Tom De Luca's "Power Napping For Less Stress") as a way to boost productivity from employees; etc), and how Sleep has been slowly reconceptualised as a lifestyle feature/commodity. riveting stuff.
what's your favourite film you saw in a cinema this year?
i haven't been to the cinema yet this year ngl, tho we might be seeing something for Mother’s Day? not sure yet, and honestly i don’t wanna think about having to travel home three weekends in a row lmao.
i haven’t seen anything yet mostly because i don't watch tv or listen to the radio so i'm very unaware of any new and upcoming films unless i hear them by Word of Mouth, but I also just don't actively enjoy going to the cinema either.
recently however, i semi-watched The Northman (2022; dir. Robert Eggers) and All Quiet On The Western Front (2022; dir. Edward Berger) at home with my brother. and as for things i do actually wanna watch at some point, i plan on watching Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022; dir. Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert), Glass Onion (2022; dir. Rian Johnson), and The Banshees of Inisherin (2022; dir. Martin McDonagh).
what do you usually wear?
my glasses, probably. nah, i'm usually always wearing my brother's old air squadron (RAF Air Cadets) hoodie. i nicked it at first bc the one i have is very worn out, but now he just lets me keep it lol.
how tall are you?
ach, 5' 2.something"
do you share your birthday with a celebrity or historical event?
the ones i can remember, from when everybody searched up their birthdays in high school, are Kanye West, Bonnie Tyler, and Nancy Sinatra. and only recently i found out i share a birthday with Liv Morgan.
and as for events, (assuming the question doesn't mean birthyear too) the 2004 Transit of Venus occurred on my birthday! it’s an astronomical event where Venus moves directly between Earth and the Sun, and to us it shows up as a small black dot that passes the face of the Sun.
personally i think it's fucking awesome because the last pair of Venus Transits took places in 1874 and 1882 — more than a century ago! — meaning the people that witnessed it saw an event that no other living person at the time had ever seen!
do you go by your name or a nickname
i go by a nickname online, exclusively... i hope. generally i dislike my real name, but i feel a bit silly asking people to instead call me by my (irl) nickname more often.
did you grow up to be what you wanted to be as a child?
ngl i don't remember ever actively wanting to be something when i younger, so i can't really answer this one. and as for what as i wanna be now? i am still as bloody clueless and aimless as the next guy :)
are you in a relationship? if not, who is your crush?
nah
what's something you're good at versus something you're bad at?
uhhh i'm good at Language Analysis, maybe? i studied english language in college, and as taxing and exhausting as it was it's just stuck with me.
generally i'm bad a Multitasking. in the sense that i try and continuously fail to work through a list of tasks one at a time. i'll start on something, see something else and convince myself that i can, “Just Quickly Do This On The Way,” out of convenience or something…but then it repeats and repeats and i get distracted and diverted even more…and before i know it, i've started on ten tasks and am yet to finish any one of them!
it bleeds into my essay writing too. i waffle and ramble on a lot (which is why answering this tag game is taking so damn long tbh), my writing is too “flowery” as my (prick of an) English Teacher used to say. so it takes a lotta effort to redraft and refine absolutely everything i write lmao.
dogs or cats?
dragons and rabbits (yeah, and cats, shut up)
what's something you'd like to create content for?
not entirely sure how to interpret this question but oh well. i think i'd like to be a Ringside Photographer for indy wrestling shows around the uk? or just an events photographer in general. but honestly that all feels very idealistic right now.
what's something you're currently obsessed with?
i think Obsessed is too heavy a term to put anything into. i can't answer this with "wrestling" at the moment either because i've fallen out of love with it all again. saying that tho, i’ve been absolutely fascinated by cara noir for the longest time now so he's always in the back of my mind :))
i can answer this with music actually. dear Syb recommended me lent, by autoheart and sisyphus, by andrew bird, and i've had them circulating my playlists ever since
i can answer this with music! dear Syb recommended me lent, by autoheart a while ago and also sisyphus, by andrew bird, and i’ve had them circulating my playlists ever since. i'll rattle off a few others i've had on repeat lately too:
おつかれsummer, by halicali (rec'd by @highvisibility!)
damaged goods, by idles
touched, by vast
company, sir chloe (rec'd by @dunkzilladaddy!)
nobody knows (ladas road), by loyle carner
time, by timbaland & she wants revenge
what's up?, by 4 non blondes
i’m very aware how Wildly random these songs are lol, but people should believe me when i say i'm a sponge for new music… i do listen to your music recs, you silly fools <3
what's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
so much. i don't mean to be vague about it but yeah, a lot. 2023 has been complete and utter shite.
what's a hidden talent of yours?
it's so fucking childish of me lmao, and i think i mentioned it ages ago? but i have a habit of making sound fx with my mouth? water drops, engine sounds, a trumpet, bird sounds, etc...
honestly i can't think of anything apart from that :')
are you religious?
nah. but i believe that the culture and the genuine values and teachings religions can bring people can be important.
what's something you wish to have at this moment?
generally, a lot. but for the last six months or something, a pet.
i used to have a rabbit when i was younger but i don't remember him very much (i don't remember much of being a kid tbh). since then, i've never felt such an overwhelming need for company as i do right now. sincerely, i am sooo pet-starved and i would die to have a Little Creature to look after, but my Circumstances mean i can't have one.
this was long overdue getting around to this so i'll leave it open to anybody that fancies it, free to tag me if you do x

Trouble - Usual Suspects
Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four
You had got ready in record timing. Although, if the badly covered up hickies weren't enough to give away your escapade, your creased work uniform from the night prior sure would. You technically had a shift that night but considering the club was basically broken glass on the sidewalk, you doubted you'd have any customers.
"Why do they even want to speak to me? I basically got all my information from you and Steve" you asked Javier as he put the car in park, stopping for a quick cigarette.
"It's just routine, you explain what you know about the two guys and file a witness report" he explained, offering you his cigarette, to which you took a nervous drag.
Your silence worried Javier, he glanced over to see you flick the ash with shaky hands. His suspicion only grew.
"What do you know about those men?" Javier asked more pointedly, his tone catching you off guard.
You looked at him with what you hoped was a steady expression, "What is the interrogation starting early or something?"
"Nobody said it was an interrogation" Javier took another drag, his eyes narrowing at your scoff.
You took a step out the car, slamming the door a little harsher than you intended, muttering under your breath, "Sure fucking feels like one."
-
"There you two are, thought I was gonna have to round you up myself" you smiled at Steve's friendly voice, thankfully he hadn't picked up on the tension between you and Javier.
"Sorry, I slept in a little late, still a bit shaken up" you gave him a sweet smile, his smirk letting you know he didn't buy your bullshit for one minute.
"I bet, anyways if you just want to follow me i'll just ask you the basic stuff"
"Okay sure" you nodded, following Steve's lead as he lead you down the offices corridor.
You stole a glance back at Javier, he was already looking at you, but with an expression you couldn't quite understand.
-
Steve had asked you the basics. How long you worked at The Oracle, who was there that night, and if you had seen the men before. You answered every question honestly, so far you'd had no reason to lie.
"And have you seen any other sketchy characters at the club before?"
Hm. Yes. Fucking yes.
Your boss had told you to ignore any weird stuff that you might see, assuring you that the men who came into the club were businessmen. Looking back now, you wouldn't be surprised if your boss was being paid to act normal as you'd seen some shady shit.
"Not really" you shrugged, Steve raised his brow.
"Not really?"
You sighed, "We sometimes have men come in who do business together, but that's all I know about it."
"Do you know their names?" Steve brought out his pocketbook.
"No." Lie. "I'm only a waitress, I don't ask names." Another lie.
Steve pondered your response for a moment, tucking his pen behind your ears.
He stood momentarily, and grabbed a piece of paper from the table. Sliding across the photo he asked, "Has this man ever been in the club?"
Pablo Escobar.
The name burned your tongue as you fought the urge to say it. However, you knew nothing good would come from that.
"I've-" you gulped a little, but regained your posture as you feigned nonchalance, "I've never seen that man before."
"Weird, he's on the TV an awful lot, you sure you wouldn't have seen him from that, regardless of if he'd been at the bar" Steve's voice was started to come off as suspicious, that worried you.
"Steve," you gave him another innocent smile, "I'm at college five days a week, if i'm not there i'm at the bar, if i'm not there i'm studying. You really think I have time to watch TV?"
You're answer seemed to have worked. You were confident now that he wouldn't question your prior shakiness. You sighed, relieved that it had seemingly worked to stump him.
-
"Your girl knows Escobar"
Javier was caught off guard by Murphys words. What had you said in there?
"That's crazy, how the hell is a waitress gonna know that asesino?" Javier and Murphy both looked over to where you were signing a document, Javier's head was reeling.
"That I do not know, but I want you to find out" Murphy patted Javier's chest with the papers he was holding before walking away. Leaving you and Javier alone.
"Well? Am I free to go officer?" you smirked a little and the look made Javier bite back a smile in return.
You took another step forward, managed to whisper in his ear inconspicuously, "Or officer, are you going to cuff me?"
A switch had flicked in Javier and suddenly the was grabbing your hand and pulling you out the office. You barely had time to comprehend this before you were back in his car, with him pulling you to straddle him.
"You better watch that mouth, cariño" The affectionate nickname not lost on you as you tried to plant a kiss on his lips. He denied this though, chose sing to grab you by the ponytail and roughly pull your head back, exposing your neck to him. You gasped at the sensation of his hot breath on your jugular.
"I thought you liked my mouth Javi" you chose to match his brashness, grinding your hips down to where you felt his jeans constrict him. Two can play that game.
He still hadn't kissed you, and at this point you were dying, panting almost.
Until that heat was quickly damped with Javier breathing a sigh and planting you back on your seat. You were being served theoretical blue balls by the man with an erection. Typical.
"Not here" his breath was ragged as he turned the ignition on. Watching you as you huffed and faced the window.
"Mierda" you muttered, pouting as Javier reversed the car.
"This is my place of work, you can't keep distracting me" he seemed to be saying it to himself more than you as he knuckles whitened against the steering wheels.
"You're no fun Javi" you cast a glare in his direction.
Then without a hitch he grabbed the side of your face and planted a small kiss in your lips. Sated, you smiled at him.
He sighed once more, focusing on the road,
"What am I gonna do with you"

Hi! It’s totally ok if you don’t want to answer this but I’m interested in marine life and choosing a college major and I was wondering what your path was to becoming an aquarist/ marine biologist was since that’s what i want to do :) I’m thinking of majoring in marine biology, but I’m curious if you had to go to grad school, what your career path was like etc to get where you are. once again no pressure it’s just all a bit confusing and you seem like a good person to ask!
Hi! Sorry I took so long to respond- I've been super busy up until now xc
I'm happy to answer! Bear in mind, though, that as I stated the last time I answered a question like this, my path in life might be VERY different from the one you ultimately decide to take, or what ends up being most comfortable for you. Take my advice with a grain of salt, because I am only human and I do make mistakes |D
I'll put this under a readmore so I don't just regurgitate text all over ya'lls dashboards xD
For starters, I chose a college that had a very strong background in marine biology, along with dedicated facilities for marine biology and oceanography etc. (I'd say which one specifically but I'd rather not doxx myself lol). I did, however, double-major. I love the ocean a whole lot, but I also really love art, so I have degrees in both marine biology and fine arts (with a drawing/painting focus). You do not have to double-major, I just did that because I wanted to study and build my skill portfolio in both areas at an organized institutional level. This was also one of the big deciding factors in picking the college that I did- it was the ONLY campus that told me directly "Yes you CAN pursue these two wildly different fields of study" and took it a step further by providing me with an action plan on the spot for how I could accomplish this in 4 years.
I did NOT go to grad school. That doesn't mean I won't EVER go to grad school, but while I entertained the idea, I decided at the time that I needed a break from institutional learning and I would further build my skills in the actual field. You are more than welcome to decide to go to grad school; I've had recent colleagues leave our facilities to go to back to grad school, it's certainly not frowned upon by marine bio employers.
Now, this can happen during college, during grad school, or when you're between employment, but- TAKE INTERNSHIPS. I took a LOT of internships, paid and unpaid. Wherever you can find a good learning experience in the field, coupled with a livable housing situation, go for it. All the book-learning in college can only help you so much; going to assist with studies for other students, or even volunteering with NOAA, will help you learn what it's like to actually do the work WAY faster and more effectively. I tagged salmon with NOAA for two semesters during college, they're a great starting organization and super willing to work around your schedule, especially when you're still a student. Internships will also give you insight into what physical aspect of the job you enjoy most!
In the meantime, before you get your first job really doing what you enjoy or studying what animal/plant/environment/science gobbledygook you find most fascinating, take another job if possible to pay the bills. Preferably doing some sort of fish care if you can manage it. There's no shame in it, and marine bio is a super competitive field. I had to work at Petco as the sole member of the entire fish department for a whole year before I got the first job I really wanted elsewhere. Paid experience means a lot to employers and researchers in the field, for some reason- I'm guessing it's some kind of trust factor? -shrug-
Hope this helps! <3

Happy wbw! Since I just finished talking your ear off about it, tell me about some life path options people have in your world! What's college like? What do most people end up deciding to do? What are the incentives to do so?
Hi!! Happy WBW!! Sorry it took me so long to answer this one, I've been trying and failing to do some writing before answering these things and I have finally given up on that a;lskdjf
I haven't gone nearly as in-depth as you in terms of post-primary school options, simply because I've been following the perspective of someone who didn't have much choice in what they did!! It's mainly addressed as college vs. trade apprenticeship vs. military vs. physical labor.
College requires really good grades in the more prized disciplines in order to even think about admission (art, architecture, history, and business for the area I've got the most on), never mind cost, because I'm ~projecting~ the situation I and my friends are in.
Trade apprenticeship is something that's gotten a little more love - there's something kinda like career days for the equivalent of high school, where local guilds and individual masters will advertise their trades and look for hopeful apprentices. (Or, like in Nimbus' case, if students excel in areas that are less desired, tradespeople in those areas will often be in contact with teachers or be keeping an eye out in the frequented supply shops.)
The military is... similar in appeal to real life, though it's fallen very quickly out of favor in-world because of a prolonged, petty war that's taken a lot of lives. It's the most secure of the options, though, especially for those with particular skill in weaponry or magic, like Ember. But you're also guaranteed to land in active service on the battlefront, so it's a dreaded last resort.
Joining the labor workforce is the most accessible option, usually, and that's heavily dependent on the area - most people in the Godwoods would enter wood mining, there's always a need for more messengers, shopkeeps, cooks... and Ember, when we meet them, works in ship construction, since they live in a port city!
There's also a few specialized schools around the world. The University of Avatica is the prime place to learn Alchemy and Enchantment, and most places with significant human populations have at least a few courses on Runes. One of the universities in Impalfahr specializes in magical research, history, and anthropology, and a lot of students go into a mix of those. The Starsmith Guild in Glittergale has a trade school to learn about the forging of Starmetals, and there's a couple variants of Fantasy!MIT in the Goblin cities!
But yeah! Thank you for the ask :D

2 qs - did it took you a long time to write "Heart First" ? do you have an interest to write a hockey mlm romance in the future ?
thanks for your thoughts !
Hi anon! Thanks for your interest!
I guess it didn't take me that long to write Heart First? At least not in actual writing time, the first concept came about in fall 2021 (me: hey you know what would be really romantic? a queer town vs. gown romance inspired by the music video to Bruce Springsteen's I'm on Fire) and then I outlined it in spring 2022. I wrote the first chapter or two, realized it needed to be a murder mystery, rewrote the outline and then wrote about half and got very stuck (not helped by a long trip over the summer during which I did no writing). I've been spoiled by the world of fanfiction, where you don't have to edit rigorously and you also get continuous feedback if you're lucky; turns out finishing a whole project with no one reading it is very hard. Fortunately some extremely kind friends started reading along with me, which got me over the hump, and I finished a draft by the end of the year.
When I say it took me about a year though, that is a year of writing on weekends and evenings outside of work when I wasn't busy with other stuff, so actual writing time was limited. Also, that was the first draft. Once I found an editor interested in the project, there were some significant rewrites, which made the whole thing about 12k longer than it was originally, and then there were all the other things an editor watches out for that I didn't know to, all of which happened in the spring of 2023.
Going into the draft of book 2 (which will apparently exist) means that I have a clearer picture of what I need to do to produce an actually okay-ish first draft for an editor, and it involves a lot more editing work. Book 2 I started writing in the spring of this year and finished a very rough first draft of a couple weeks ago, I had a much clearer idea of what I was going for when I started and a much tighter outline. Also got stuck in the middle over a long summer break though, apparently that's a theme.
Very long answer to a short question, I know.
Will I ever write a hockey romance...I am enjoying reading them a lot. I will give you that. I also love secret romance tropes a lot, and Heart First is not that even though I kinda started out thinking it would be. However, I don't know anything about hockey and I can't say I care that much about the sport (sorry, hockey fans). Heart First is about a lot of things I don't know much about, but it is rooted in something I know pretty well: a small liberal arts college in the Hudson Valley (Bard College, no Bardians were harmed in the making of this novel except me). So. Never say never, I guess, I might really want to dive into the sports romance genre someday, but I have no plans.
