New Crowfeather! He’s pretty simmilar to the last design, I just wanted to change a few little things!
In RoC he is a Healer, he is besties with Leafpool, he is mates with Squirrelflight, and Hollyleaf is is kit! (So are Sparkfire and Dandeliondust) Alsoo Nightcloud is his older sister and Breeze is his nephew in this au! Breeze is also forced to be his apprentice due to a prophecy as well hehe
Crow is enby and uses He/They pronouns, he also likes feme things, if they were anthro/a human he would like to wear skirts and dresses! He is also gray-aroace, and was very surprised to fall for Squilf! idk why but I just like these identities for them :)
Wind Order Healers like to weave necklaces and bracelets out of the long grasses on their territory and adorn themselves with them! Crow has given a friendship bracelet to Leafpool and he has given several woven things to Squilf and she keeps them in her nest with her.
I gave him a crow’s feather, a jay’s feather that also looks similar to Feathertail’s pelt to reference their favorite nephew Jay and his old friend Feathertail! They also have a holly leaf to reference his daughter Holly!
[Image ID: A digital drawing of Crowfeather from Warrior Cats. He is walking with his left side showing, they have a annoyed expression on their face and are looking back towards the right. They are a slender, long limbed, short furred dark grey cat, with blue eyes. Their tail is tufted at the end and they have lighter grey on their chin, paws, and on their chest. His fur is adorned with purple, and yellow flowers along with green leaves, he also has a black feather, a grey feather, and a holly leaf on his tail. They also have two braided green grass necklaces around their neck with flowers in them./End ID]

Note
regarding various ideas thatve been discussed here, my vision is like
After the whole “seriously considered murdering him” bit in sunset, Firestar demoted Brambleclaw and made Brackenfur deputy. Cardboard cutout of a man
Initially Jay is brightheart’s apprentice, Holly is Leafpool’s, lion is brackenfur’s
In a battle that makes Jay and Holly change their minds (for Jayfeather I feel like I would want him to have some kind of arc about internalised ableism,, like he has to learn a nuanced lesson about how he doesn’t need to be productive by the standards of clan culture and it’s okay for him to acknowledge his limits and choose a different path, but also his clanmates should allow him to define his limits and not treat him like he’s made of glass. I digress) - in the battle where Holly and Jay change their minds, Brackenfur Freaking Dies and only now is bramble deputy. I think I’d want firestar to die earlier too so we can get shitty bramblestar + the most depressed squilf you’ve ever seen
Now we’ve got Jay as Leafpool’s apprentice, Holly as ashfur’s, and lion as brightheart’s because man I always felt bad she never got an apprentice again
and with this setup I would want basically everything to be significantly more fucked up. Ashfur exacerbates Hollyleaf’s fixation on the code and power (foreshadowing tbc??), I’d want Lionblaze to like, accidentally hurt somebody really badly in training and have to grapple with feeling like a monster more. Maybe instead of Cinderheart falling out of a tree, Lionblaze accidentally injures her
Speaking of cinderheart I want her to do some of the stuff poppyfrost does I love poppyfrost but having cinderheart narrowly escape death and feel strangely drawn towards the moonpool would be a lot more fun - I think I’d frame her being cinderpelt as something that was either accidental, or intentional but StarClan was in the wrong for not letting cinderpelt rest because I really resent the idea that cinderpelt needed a second chance at life as if the life she lived after becoming disabled wasn’t a good and worthwhile one
So yeah cinderheart is possessed by a restless ghost, lionblaze can’t stop hurting people no matter how hard he tries, hollyleaf is just regular hollyleaf but more, jayfeather… I dunno maybe make StarClan genuinely scared of him because of how much his power allows him to defy them. Maybe he feels detached from himself and is almost constantly dissociating because he spends so much time walking in dreams and other peoples minds. I don’t know I don’t like jayfeather
ALL THIS. And then have your thing about dove and ivy being cinderholly kits also be true do you see my vision do you understand . I am so sorry about the length of this I got carried away
I AM EATING ALL OF THIS UP BIG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i always wished jaypaw's first battle with shadowclan was what got him to change, like it's this big awakening to what clan culture is really like. he gets the shit kicked out of him and he's like "wow. this sucks. why is everyone making this sound so great"
and big big BIG yes with cinderheart, i feel she deserved some better meat than what po3 and oots was throwing her. these are lovely i am LOOKING

Sol
You just had your birthday!
Sol is a HUGE tortoiseshell tom with thick fur around his neck like a mane, long tufted ears, a long tail with fluff on the tip like a lion's, and brilliant amber eyes.
Sol, originally known as Harry, was born near a junkyard to Cinders and Whispers. Whispers hated his mate, who only ever asked him to hunt for her and their oopsie litter. He belittled her constantly, and resented his children. They had a massive fight one day, he never had a new mate, or kits. When he left, he walked across a very busy road....
Cinders was left full of grief. She still loved her mate, despite everything he put her and her kids through. After a major depressive spell, she gathered up her children, and took them all towards INSERT, meowing at doors, begging an Upwalker to let her and her children in.
Finally, a woman opened her door, and immediately let the tiny family inside. All together. Cinders's old name was Flame, and she is a sunshine torbie with bright golden colors and a white mark on her head. At least, before things got bad. Her coat has dulled, and living alone with her kits for a while left her murky and stained. She looked more gray than anything, hence the woman renaming her Cinders. Cinders took to the name immediately, even after her pelt began to brighten again. Her kits are given names as well; Harry, Sunny, Foggy and Ivy.
Harry became lazy, and whiny, and spoiled from their new owner. He became bossy with his siblings, and when they stopped wanting to take it, Harry cried to his mother that they were bullying him.
Eventually, Cinders catches him snapping at one of them, swiping at his sister Ivy and connecting his claws with his meek sister's muzzle. Cinders snapped at Harry, and chased him out...
Harry would soon find himself on Skyclan's borders, where he would cause problems with Leafstar and Billystorm's children, making an already bad situation much worse.
Leafstar finds out about him more through his mother, and finds just how dangerous he can be. She boots him out of Skyclan for it, permanently.
He wanders through the land, forcing others to occasionally catch food for him, coasting on the kindness of Twolegs. He wanders into White Hart Woods, or rather, what is left of it. A storm drives Harry into an old cave system, where, at its deepest point, lies an ancient chamber with the broken remains of The Moonstone. It calls to Harry, and, in what will be a horrible turn of events for the Clans, he finds himself resting on the Shattered Moonstone.
I cannot reiterate enough, readers, that you Should Not Do That.
His head is filled with knowledge, things he shouldn't know. Blackstar's Trial and his leadership ceremonies, and how to charm him. Firestar's sacred Prophecy about his Kin, and who their parents are. He knows that Russetfur will be mauled by a Windclan cat and that the Moon will cover the Sun. Harry has been overexposed to a much more raw, archaic place than any Starclan spirit can get to.
He had found The Sky Beyond The Stars.
When he wakes up, he renames himself Sol, after an old, dead god that has now been reborn. And he knows about The Moonpool, too. It's like a beacon to him. He heads down, bullying groups he comes across like Jingo and her friends, but when he reaches Thunderclan territory and tries to climb a tree, he falls... There's a horrible crunch, and Sol falls limp for just a moment...
His father Whispers has been haunting him, and he decides to finally put that spirit to use.
Sol gets up, shakes himself off, and feels just a little lighter before continuing his walk, deciding to stay off of trees. Eventually, he hears a small group of young cats nearby...
He recognizes Hollypaw, Jaypaw and Lionpaw. He is taken to camp, where he makes his infamous prediction. Squilf is nearly killed in the battle against Windclan, and, to be fair, it looks like Sol caused the whole thing. He had forgotten about the WindThunder battle, genuinely.
Firestar exiles him, his heart broken over his Terribly injured daughter, along with his friendship with Onestar having shattered. Russetfur was mauled, his grandson Jaypaw was nearly killed, and Blackstar is almost definitely going to lose a life over this.
Not to mention Lionpaw has just killed someone.
So... Yeah. Bye Sol. Go find a new home.
And Sol does. He knew that Blackstar would be vulnerable. He charms him, speaks to him in that new hypnotic way he has learned to do, like staring at a small mirage created by the sun's heat on the road.
He had been able to get Russetfur out of her comatose state, he said exactly what Blackstar had wanted to hear in a way he knew would get to him...
It is to let Sol help him. Guide him. When was the last time Starclan spoke to you? Gee, it's been a while. If they don't trust you anymore, what's the point of trusting them? Your deputy has been mauled by a Windclan cat who has seen no punishment over it... Seems despite your trials and tribulations... Starclan has abandoned you.
Perhaps it's time to put your faith in a new god.
The next stage is so fast, Lionblaze desperately works with the young new Shadowclan warriors, Owlclaw and Redwillow, to create a fake sign, and while it becomes real, Jay is off fighting with Sol. But now, Jay's got some warrior skills under his belt.
He is about to seriously wound Sol, when the slippery tom speaks once more.
"You look so much like your father. Well, your real one, anyway."
The shock of that statement is too much, and when Jayfeather tries to gauge how Sol is feeling (because, well... He could be full of crap) his mind is filled with the Sun god's horrible blinding light, physically painting him.
"Interesting power you've got there. Mine came from the same place. There's another Sky out there. Beyond Starclan. There is more out there than you can imagine. Spirits, places, power... Did you know you I've died before?"
Poor Jay is left dumbstruck as Sol darts away, not to be seen again until OOTS.
From there, he meets a different fate. Hollyleaf's mind has changed about the code. It's important, sure, but also stupid in places. And it doesn’t account for this.
She kills him, the two fighting in a dusty clearing outside of Thunderclan land, his head smashed onto a stone. She gives him a burial, as a kind thing to do for a body no longer housing a soul.
The Sun God has had its vessel destroyed, and will have to seek out a new one.
Sol enters the Dark Forest. Most cats dislike him, but he doesn't involve himself with Tigerstar's plans. He keeps to himself in a corrupted version of the dump/Skyclan's camp, an amalgamation fused together horribly that he calls his Sun Kingdom. It randomly grows dark, and cold, and laughter is heard from countless cats until it suddenly becomes blindingly bright, then back to normal. The whole thing is sun bleached and the place stinks of wet cardboard box.
A king sits alone upon his cold, sun bleached throne, decreeing his royalty to a crowd that doesn't exist, and only laughs.
The Sun's Rage is brewing.

Now that brambleclaw and squirrelflight aren't mates, how would Alderheart and Sparkpelt being born? Most AUs (not saying those aus are bad) just have Bramblestar as a nothing character either as a villain with no personality or forgettable, with the personlity of wheat bread "man wife"
A lot of Bramnleclaw's character in/is about Squirrelflight and their love triangle with Ashfur. I can't really see (again no offense to you. Just airing my thoughts) as him being nothing character, if he isn't her mate than how would TBC happen or would that series never happen because Ashfur or Brambleclaw aren't mates with Squirrelflight. How would plotpointd such as his relationship with firestar would become? It would be jus them as adoptive siblings?
beware, this shit is long! soooo much more under the cut.
i’ve been thinking about this! basically, squilf would replace leafpool in the forbidden romance plot with crowfeather. during tpb, all of squilf’s romance will be with crowfeather. we get his pov during the journey, where he will be close with feathertail but crushing on squirrelpaw. we get squilf’s pov when they get home, where we can hear her internal debates over her feelings about crowpaw and missing him. she is attached to brambleshade (brambleclaw), but in a sibling way. in my head, firestar is a pseudo-dad to bramble, so a sibling dynamic makes sense. however, this isn’t reciprocated the same way. bramble grows to be in love with squirrelflight.
in twilight, squirrel and crow debate leaving, but decide against it and amicably agree to split. at the same time, leafpool is having the same issue with mothwing — mothwing cares little about the warrior code, and would much rather leave the clans and live their lives in peace, with a bonus of the fact that hawkfrost would never follow her and she’d be free of him. they run away, but come back just in time, like the leafcrow romance in canon.
as a note, because tc doesn’t share borders with rc, they had no idea it was mothwing that leafpool ran away with.
afterward, in sunset, squirrelflight grows closer to bramble and ashfur is scorned, much like in canon. she realizes he assumes she’s in love with bramble, and she lets this happen to dissuade him from trying to “win” her back. she feels safe doing this, because she assumes her sibling feelings towards bramble are the same from his side.
(note: squilf did date ashfur while she was arguing with bramble, but at first it was just friendship. she thought he’d make a great mate, and she could forget about crowfeather and maybe even have kits. but as he grows more controlling, she breaks up with him. soon after, she reconciles with bramble and ashfur takes this as badly as possible.)
after the whole saving her dad thing, squirrelflight is delighted. (side note again: bramble does become deputy, because longtail retires early. longstar would be too good of a leader, we need a shit one, for plot reasons.) bramble is delighted, because he thinks this means she loves him “again”. leafpool had no idea about the crowfeather thing, and tells squilf about the dream starclan sent of squilf and bramble walking side by side. squilf takes this to mean starclan wants her and bramble as mates (they absolutely do, the meddling weirdos), but with the way she feels about him? she isn’t fond of the idea. however, at the book’s end, leafpool tells her she’s pregnant. squilf knows exactly who’s they are — and she is both petrified and delighted. it’s complicated situation, she’s so overjoyed to have her love’s kits, but he will never know them and the clan will be suspicious. everyone knows she was courting ashfur but spends all her time with bramble now, so they’ll assume it’s one of theirs. so will the two cats in question. if she refuses to say who, it’ll be very obvious their father is not thunderclan. she tells this much to leafpool, who advises her to follow starclan’s wish and become bramble’s mate, for real. squilf tries to convince herself this will be okay, because it’s what starclan wants.
later, leafpool tells her she’s carrying mothwing’s kits, and they (TOGETHER) devise the plan to have squilf raise them, which will be easy because she’ll actually have milk here. bramble is over the moon at the news of kits, and squilf is dying inside. it’d be a depressing inner monologue, her trying to convince herself she can be happy like this.
leafpool fakes a starclan vision, saying squirrelflight must visit the moonpool immediately, for plot reasons. squilf gives birth up there, and crow stumbles upon them. there’s a unique herb growing in the cave that he was sent to retrieve for his “mate” (they’ve come to an agreement: crow takes night as his mate to look loyal, and the kits she has won’t appear as if they were fathered by a rogue, like they actually were), nightcloud, who’s about to give birth. he sees squilf’s kits, they get emotional and sappy. there’s two kits, unnamed. together, they name them hollykit and breezekit, and crow takes breezekit (the one out of rhe two without red on him) back to wc to be raised by nightcloud with her kits. he’ll blend right in with the litter.
a few hours later, leafpool gives birth to jaykit, lionkit (still haven’t decided his name change), and dovekit. after another day, a tc patrol comes to get them, wondering what took them so long, surprised to find squirrelflight’s four kits! they carry ‘em home, and squilf settles in the nursery, fussed over by brambleshade. about a week later, dovekit dies, and squilf is heartbroken. she grows listless and finds it hard to take care of her remaining kits, but later recovers and is a great mom.
power of three goes pretty close to canon, major plot wise. hollyleaf is not a member of the three, but it makes SENSE bc she wasn’t actuallt part of the three’s litter. dovekit was, who was later reincarnated into whitewing’s kit, dovekit, in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled. for the fire scene, it goes the same mostly, squilf claiming they aren’t her kits, ashfur says idc you love them anyway. i think i may have firestar save them from ashfur here, losing his final life. after the fire, squilf admits that hollyleaf is her kit, but the other two aren’t. hollyleaf pries the whole story out of leafpool, and goes STRAIGHT to brambleshade, before he goes to receive his nine lives. he thanks her for telling him, and he is heartbroken (because, apparently, his wife never loved him.) and furious. none of his kits were his, some of them were even leafpool’s! after he’s made bramblestar, he appoints hollyleaf as his deputy, citing that she’s the only one he can trust. things go to shit, sol, hollyleaf snaps and kills ashfur, hollyleaf tells the clans everything, including the prophecy, etc etc. hollyleaf dies, killed by the falling rocks in the tunnels. her role in the great battle stays the same, as does firestar’s, bc their ghosts can still kick ass.
after this, during omen of the stars, we see bramble actively punishing squirrelflight. everything is shit. i don’t know who i’ll have him pick as deputy, but they’ll die during the flood of bramblestar’s storm. jessy happens, etc etc, squilf and him make up. she apologizes, and he apologizes, but he kinda makes it about him, hmmm….
anyway, spark and alder are bramblesquirrel kits still. i haven’t thought about major plot for avos yet, i’ve barely thought about pot and oots. but, squilf is made deputy, and the broken code is a thing. bramblestar is freed of rhe possession, but there will be a scene where squirrelcrow have a Moment and bramblestar loses his shit. he accuses her of betraying him, of being cruel and evil, yada yada. brambleshade is a little weird, maybe kinda vindictive, but bramblestar is out of his mind. the sheer amount of power he has and his desire to use it against her is dangerous. he is very clearly an evil person, despite the sympathies he has. anyway, bramblestar tries to exile her, but spark stops him. she, and the clan, are OVER bramblestar, who was just as bad a leader as the imposter. he is stripped of his name and lives via rhe new warrior code rule, and the clan watches in horror as he loses all but his last life in real time. he’s moved to the medicine den. meanwhile, squilf becomes a star, and appoints ivyclaw (ivypool) her deputy. she gives brambleshade the option of leaving the clan or retiring, and he hobbles his old ass to the elder’s den.
after all this, crowfeather decides to join thunderclan, and squirrelstar happily accepts him, daring anyone to argue. they get their happily ever after, and it’s very sweet. maybe breeze even comes with his dad, tired of his clan’s scorn? regardless, it’s a very awkward time for nightheart watching his grandad spit obscenities at his step-grandad. wild.
pls tell me if this is incoherent ive never written my ideas out for the squirrelcrow bramblesquirrel plot before !!!

Ashfur: "Wait, you're leaving me for Brambleclaw...who you've been fighting with since before we arrived at the lakes and is being haunted by his dead demon dad...and you think nothing is going to go wrong with that plan?"
Squirrelflight: "Brambleclaw is a good cat, you don't know what he's gone through."
Ashfur: *blinks.* "Two weeks ago he woke up the entire warriors den screaming about Tigerstar and Hawkfrost and the Dark Forest. Cinderpelt has literally said darkness is surrounding him at all sides. I get you don't want to be with me, but girl, he is literally a walking red flag right now...well, actually now that I think about it, He's always been a walking red flag. Whatever. You do you." *walks away, calling for Birchpaw.*
Squirrelflight: "Did you hear him, Leafpaw?!? He blames Brambleclaw for things he can't help. It's not Brambleclaw's fault that Tigerstar is his dad."
Leafpaw: "....." =/
Ack, I dunno if I'd want to portray Petty Ashfur as being so much smarter than everyone else, or make Brambleclaw being so obviously bad that Squirrelflight looks blind to reality. Both of those options don't seem... great
Petty Ashfur's not about turning Ash into someone who's a perfect guy with all my opinions as a writer, it's about exploring the idea of him just being a petty asshole capable of growth.
I see Petty Ashfur still handling the breakup EXTREMELY personally, taking it out on Squilf in a very hurt and passive aggressive way, ruining their friendship because of it... at a time when she's going to need him most. Abuse is extremely isolating and a good friend is the best thing a person can have, but in his catty pity party he leaves her utterly alone
He really turns around at the Fire Scene, when he doubles back towards the blaze to save them, only to get attacked by Thornclaw attempting to kill the Three out of fear of the prophecy. After that, with the secret being revealed at the Gathering... it's sad.
Maybe not for NOBLE reasons, mind you, but Leafpool's his gossip rival and now teasing her is like kicking her while she's down. He haaaates Squilf for breaking up with him, but he's got a secret polycule now and the way the clans turned on her is... it's not what he saw in his fantasies. There's no joy in this. It makes him feel bad.
But in this AU, Petty Ashfur DOES seem to be a smart cookie... maybe in this version, he could work with Hawkfrost because his ulterior motive is exposing Brambleclaw? I could even toss in one of my favorite AU concepts and have Hawkfrost survive this? Hawkstar could be fun!

Ok so squilf and brambles relationship in shattered stars. So yeah they don't end up back together for a multitude of reasons. The first two reasons being,
1. Because bramble refused to listen to squilf about hawk which almost gets her dad killed
2. The lies about the kits.
So we're gonna get into spoiler territory here.
So after they split bramble starts being an ass to squilf not much unlike canon, however the difference is that rainwhisker is alive. Rainwhisker and squilf were close when they were younger but for various reasons they stopped hanging out and kind of lost touch. after squilf broke up with ash it kind of split the friend group, rainwhiskers brother died and he went into heavy grieving and then squilf had kits pretty fast so became a busy mother. However there was no bad blood between them. So when the secret comes out rainwhisker feels for squilf because he was her friend and he knows that she only does things for the right reasons and he trusts her implicitly. He also feels awful for her for what ash and bramble have done. So he offers his support as her friend and she takes it. The two begin hanging out as friends once more.
As for bramble he's at rock bottom. He's lost his mate, his kits, his position as deputy and his clan mates trust. He's angry and of course he takes it out on squilf. He avoids her when possible, and belittles her a lot when they have to be together. He has a right to be upset with her, but sometimes he takes it too far. All the while this is happening squilf is getting support from her sister, her family and rainwhisker. She works on healing herself and eventually she begins to see just how bad brambleclaw is and was to her when they were together and not.
Meanwhile bramble doesn't do any of this. Much like canon bramble struggles with introspection and doesn't work to see how he was part of the problem. The only true change he makes in the omens of the stars rewrite is that he realizes that he's better off without power and that he would rather live a life as a normal warrior as it allows him to distance himself from his father's legacy and that there's so much he can do to help his clan mates in other ways. Then Jessy comes along. Brambleclaw quickly becomes enamoured with her as she is a lot like squilf when she was younger. It's a lot like a butterscotch situation. Jessy also falls in love with him quickly as she finds him to be thrilling and charismatic. She also falls in love with clan life and decides to stay taking on the name stormwind after she was rescued from flood waters by thunderclan. The two quickly becomes mates which breaks squilfs heart more, but once again she works on herself and towards healing with the help of her support group.
Bramble and storm are very happy together for a long time however bramble begins to fall back into his old shitty patterns not to mention they sort of rushed into being together. Their relationship begins to splitter pretty quickly. It also doesn't help that storm can see bramble is not over squilf too. All the while storm is pregnant with brambles kits. When she gives birth its close to the great battle. When storm hears about the dead walking and coming to fight the living she flips out. This is not what she signed up for. Living in the woods is one thing fighting horror movie ghosts is another. She beggs bramble to run away from the clans with their children and go live elsewhere. Bramble being a true thunderclan cat refuses saying he will lay down his life for his clan. Storm then tells him that they're done and shes taking her kits and leaving to protect them and that shes done with clan life. Bramble convinces her to at least stay until their kits are at least 6 moons old so they can decide whether or not they want to stay in the clan.
Storm is evacuated with her kits to the barn before the great battle. Bramble talks with squilf before the battle and apologizes for his behavior and asks what their future looks like. Squilf tells him that she still loves him and always will but they'll never be mates again as they just aren't good for each other and then she tears him a new one about his behavior. Only then does bramble finally realize how problematic he is and for the first time ever he finally understands squilf. He apologizes once again with a heavy heart.
Bramble and squilf both live through the battle. Rain and squilf grieve together for their lost siblings. As they grieve together squilf and rain realize what they mean to one another. Squilf is hesitant to get with rain as she's been down this path before, but her heart wins her over and the two become mates.
I'm not sure if I'll have bramble get back together with storm. I like the idea of him finally changing and fixing his shitty behavior but it also feels out of place for him. I also really like the idea of him being a single dad whos focus is his kids and grandkids. So yeah that's they're relationship.

The Birth and the Blizzard
Squrrielflight felt only the cold as she trudges through the snow. She and Leafpool had finally made it outside of Thunder Order territory, only for the blizzard to worsen. Sharpened hail battered their faces, and winds bore into their pelts, entering into their bones. The sisters had never experienced this cold before, and they were sure they'd never experience it again. Stars above, Squrrilflight prayed. We broke the code.. but have mercy on our kits. Her whiskers were frozen. Please!
"No!" Leafpool's sharp cry made her stiffen. As Squirrilflight turned sharply. Just then, the blizzard's direction changed, and her mouth was swarmed with the scent of blood. Leafpool had been experiencing pain since nightfall; the small pool of blood in the snow only confirmed what they already knew. Something was wrong.
"Squrriel..." Her sister's voice was trembling. Squrrielflight swiftly buried her nose in her sister's neck fur.
"I know..."
Leafpool had told her that stress had been affecting her pregnancy. Clan life with one inexperienced, young healer had proven difficult; Cinderspark's death had taken a heavy toll on all of Thunder Order. Brightheart had done her best to help ease Leafpool's transition to head herbalist by helping Sorreltail's kits, but the empty absence of her mentor and the pregnancy of herself and Squrrielflight had only added stress.
"We'll get through this."
Is what Squrrielflight had said. The sister had always known when the other was upset. Squrrielflight had stomped over to the medicine den and demanded Leafpool tell her what was wrong. I know this isn't about Cinderspark because you bloody won't stop crouching! You're jumpy and avoiding me! I've been trying to tell you I've been expecting kits!
When Leafpool had collapsed and confessed her own pregnancy, Squrrielflight froze. Of the millions of thoughts going through her head, one stood out. We'll get through this. She'd meant it and would continue to repeat it in the following months. Until it was true.
"They're not going to make it!" Leafpool practically wailed. She turned to the pool of blood. "I've been bleeding since dawn..."
Squrrielflight felt her belly cramp. She lowered her head to keep her sister from seeing. We have to make it! Gritting her teeth, she turned and stepped towards the blizzard again.
"The hollow is close!" She called back, turning towards Leafpool. "We'll get through this!"
"The wind is too strong to pick up a scent," Leafpool argued, "and we can't see anything! We're lost!"
"We're not lost!" Squrrielflight snapped, pretending to ignore the desperation in her sister's eyes. "We've been walking in the same direction this entire time! I chose this hollow for that purpose!"
"You don't even know if we've been walking straight!"
"How else would we walk?!"
"Squilf, we're the size of two foxes with boulders on their back!"
"Well, do you have a better then?"
Leafpool's eyes darken. "We build a den out of snow."
Squrrielflight's heart sank; an old warrior's tale of the snow-den kit fading rose in her mind. "They'll die!"
Leafpool eyes were wild. "They will die if we die!"
Squrrielflight watches flashes of fear, excitement, dread, and love dance in her sister's gaze. Leafpool squeezed her eyes shut. "I don't want you to die."
Her voice was so quiet the blizzard nearly swallowed her confession. Squrrielflight's heart shattered.
"Please don't do that..." She felt her voice squeak her words, but she didn't care. Leafpool eyes flashed again, her ear flattening. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came. Squrrielflight touched noses with her sister, pressing her body against hers until she felt skin. Leafpool was trembling again, whispering small apologies.
"I miss her too... and don't be..."
They held each other for a moment. A silent comfort. The grief shared had made the blizzard soften ever so slightly, but the cold still roared in the wind.
"What do we do...?" Squrrielflight whispered.
"I don't--" Leafpool stopped. Her body became rigid.
Squrrielflight looked up at her sister's face: her panic was gone, replaced by horror. Squrrielflight felt her fur rise. She slowly turned her back to her sister, shielding her.
A large figure stood a fox length away from them.
Squrrielflight slid out her claws. She began to crouch but felt another cramp rip into her. She couldn't stop herself from crying out, staggering slightly. Leafpool seemed to snap her out of her shock, immediately coming to her sister's side. The figure didn't move, but as Squrriellfight blinked, the figure was suddenly closer.
It was a cat. A she-cat.
Her pelt was dull despite the bright snow around them; Squrrielflight could just make out mute tortoiseshell-and-white fur. Her appearance seemed to be an echo in the blizzard, disappearing for a moment before appearing again. Her eyes were a void black, as was the jagged clawed scar on her face. They seemed to be connected by the black liquid dripping down her face. Blood? Another scar raked around her back with the same substances. Only then did Squrrielflight notice that the she-cat looked...wet?
"Hello..." Leafpool spoke softly. Squrrielflight realized her sister's deminer changed. She sounded curious. "Who...who are you? You scared us..."
"What are you doing?" Squrrielflight hissed.
"Her appreciate scared me," Leafpool confessed, "but after a few heartbeats, I realised she meant us no harm."
This must be a healer thing. Squrrielflight felt annoyed but relieved. The cramping was a dull ache now, but she wasn't sure they could trust this...cat.
"You're dead," Leafpool spoke plainly. Squirrielflight saw a spark in her eye. "Can you help--"
Without finishing her sentence, the she-cat began to walk towards them. Her body faded as she passed through the sisters and continued to walk away. A feeling of love and protection passed through Squrrielflight as the she-cat's body entered them. A newfound strength heated her body, making the blizzard feel like a breeze on a greenleaf's day. The kits inside her squirmed and kicked. Squrrielflight felt her own love course through her. By the look on her sister's face, she'd felt everything too.
The she-cat glanced over her shoulder, her fur still dripping.
My name is Mapleshade. The torsieshell's voice echoed in their minds. I have come to protect your kits. She paused, seemingly deep in thought. She looked from sister to sister, the void in her gaze was like the new moon.
You will get through this.
(((time for bed this took 3 hours. Nothing like siblings arguing in a blizzard while in labour #sisters)))

Going just by TPB and TNP, out of Ashfur, and Brambleclaw, who would you have had picked if you were in Squirrelflight's place?
Also, did petty!Ashfur name Brindlekit after his mom?
And if it had turned out the 3 were Squirrelflight's and Ashfur's, how do you think that would have gone over?
Who would you pick?
Well... I sort of don't like the way the question is posed, you know? I've been in Squirrelflight's place before and I picked the Brambleclaw, not because it was a logical choice, but because I loved them. Because they made me feel needed and important in a time I felt aimless.
(Nevermind how much of that is caused by the abuser's attempts to shame and humiliate you. That's difficult to realize when you've taken the hook.)
She shouldn't have had to be with either one, but when she broke it off with Ashfur, it's easy to forget that Ashfur also started mistreating her. The wretchedness she felt was something she brought up with Leafpool, praying that she'd made the right 'choice.' That's when Leafpool shares her StarClan Shipping Dreams which makes Squilf feel better about it all.
But it shouldn't have to have been a choice!! And I think Ashfur suddenly cutting her off (and probably causing a schism in her friend group) contributed to Squilf feeling like she had to make a call here instead of realizing it's a false dichotomy.
I think Sweet Nothings/Petty Ashfur, with many years of experience and introspection, kinda realizes this and is horrified by it. He could have helped her, but in his spite, he made her life so much worse.
Anyway,
Brindlekit
Yep! She was named after his mom. He named Brindle and Squirrel, Hawkfrost named Frost, Reed named Ash.
The Three: Ashfur x Squirrelflight Edition
I think it's a neat thought, but when I really examine it, I don't see how very much would change. There really isn't much scandal in it. They were both full ThunderClan warriors who were dating, Bramble would have known Squilf was pregnant when they got together, so... the most this secret being revealed would do is make a mildly awkward gathering.
And canon Ashfur? I don't think it would really matter to him very much. The reason she was able to get him to NOT kill her kids is because they weren't Squirrelflight's. He wanted to hurt her, but she used the truth of their parentage to say it wouldn't matter if they live or die.
which bothers me immensely btw in WHAT world would anyone ever just be like,
"Ok I believe you. You definitely don't love these kids you ran towards a fire to save, obviously, they're adopted ugh. Let me just let these three witnesses walk away from my attempted murder-- I'll find some other way to hurt you later :)"
Sooo... what would it matter if they were Ashfur's kids, y'know? It was never about them being Brambleclaw's children, it was about hurting Squilf.
Just sort of seems like a less twisty twist that wouldn't even work, unless you wanted an AU where the Three die at the hands of their crummy biodad
