2024.4.19 Spincoaster presents aimi “I’m OK” Release Party @ BLUE NOTE PLACE

R&Bシンガーaimiの新曲“I’m OK”のリリースパーティを観に恵比寿ブルーノートプレイスに行ってきました。

R&Bシンガーaimiとしてのステージを観るのは今回が初めて。特にブルーノートプレイスは食事もおいしく、雰囲気も良く、お値段もかなりリーズナブルなので大好きなライブ会場の一つです。還暦前のこの年になってくるとスタンディングのステージは結構疲れてしまうので、着席して聞けるライブレストランは大変ありがたいです。

今回の新曲“I’m OK”はジェネイ・アイコを手掛けたLEJKEYSのプロデュースとのこと。

今回aimiのもとにはLEJKEYSから直接メールがきたというが、アイコやユナ、旧知のアンダーソン・パークやダムファウンデッドも含めてアジアにルーツを持つアーティストとの仕事が多いアジア系の彼が、アイコの『Chilombo』を聴いて改めてR&Bに開眼したaimiと結びついたのは、偶然だったのかもしれないが必然だったとも言いたくなる。 R&Bシンガー aimi、LEJKEYSとの必然とも言えるタッグ　「I'm OK」に満ちた癒しのエネルギー - Real Sound｜リアルサウンド

制作までの過程に関してはライブでも説明があったが、詳細は本人のリールにて

バンドセットのステージはとても素敵だった。 aimi(Vo.) with 竹田麻里絵(Key.) Zak Croxall(Ba.) Willie(Ds.) 竹田麻里絵さんの演奏は初めて聞けたし、Nao Yoshiokaのステージも務め��Zakも一緒だった。

ステージ後オリジナルZINEにサインをもらいました。

当日のライブレポに関しては、こちらのファンのブログで詳しく紹介されています。

aimiのR&Bの原点について考えると、こちらの楽曲“Lady Boy”ではないかと自分は考えている。

以前からカバー動画を専門としているYouTubeチャンネルHomesessionsの作品で知っていたのだが、この動画を見たのをきっかけに、2015年12月にaimiの地元で開催されたイベントに会いに行ったのが最初の出会いだった。

その後、タワーレコードのインストアライブやワンマンライブなど様々なステージを見てきたが、個人的にはR&Bをやって欲しいとずっと思っていた。

そうした中、R&Bシンガーaimiとしての新たな音楽活動が始まったわけだが、自身のアーティスト活動だけではなく、今やJ-R&Bのオーガナイザーの役割も担う存在となった。

近年の国内シーンはなかなか〈R&B〉というカテゴリー自体では注目されにくかったものの、アーティスト単位では非常にバラエティ豊かな才能を揃えてきたからだ。オーセンティックなジャンル性を継承しながら王道のR&Bの豊かさを確かな歌唱で伝��るシンガーたち――中堅のNao Yoshiokaから、昨年傑作『Chosen One』を作り上げたaimi、VivaOlaとも繋がるSincereまで――は良質な作品をリリースし続けているし、対してポップス畑に近いところでもXinU、CELINA、大比良瑞希、NEMNEといったニューカマーが続々現れ、ストリーミングのプレイリストを沸かせている。 もちろん、同様の領域ではJASMINEからiri、RIRI、MALIYAといった一～二世代前の実力者たちがいまだにリリースペースを落とすことなくエッジの立った曲を出し続けている状況もある。 「w.a.u以降」のR&B―露出に頼らぬ自律性で真価を示す歌い手たち｜日刊サイゾー

ライブのアンコールでは2つの大きな紹介があった。

1つ目はaimiがインタビューを受けている『オルタナティヴR&Bディスクガイド』について。早速Amazonで購入してみた。

こちらの本の詳細についてはアジカン後藤がホストを務める ポッドキャスト番組APPLE VINEGARにてaimiが話をしている。

余談だが番組中ゴッチはマレーシアの国民的R&BシンガーYUNAを何度も紹介しており、YUNAファンの自分としてはとても親近感を持てた。

2つ目は新たなポッドキャスト番組Detox Lounge(デトックスラウンジ)の告知。

R&Bシンガーaimiとダンサー／DJのYacheemiがナビゲートする、R&B Loversのための憩いの場。さまざまな表情を持つR&Bの中でも、特に癒し効果にあふれた楽曲・アーティストに焦点を当て、Let'sリラックス＆デトックス。あなたの音楽ライフをゆるやかに彩ります。

番組中R&Bがもたらすヒーリング効果についての話があったが、個人的にはR&Bはライブで分泌されるドーパミン効果だけではなく、リラックスするためのセロトニン効果を期待しているため、デトックスラウンジというコンセプトは自分にとても合っているなと思えた。

K-POP全体のテーマが、BLACKPINKのガールクラッシュからNewJeansのイージーリスニングに変わってきているのと同様に、J-R&B全体のテーマがエンパワーメントからセルフラブに変わってきているなと昨今とても感じる。

This is a line I can’t really think of a way to transcribe its wordplay into English, but essentially 違う (chigau) can mean both different and wrong. It’s being used as an antonym to 同じ (onaji), but also incorporating that double meaning in here I believe.

I know there is a popular translation going around which I think accidentally misinterprets the 様に (you ni) here to be used with the meaning of “in order to”, however I’m pretty sure the kind of 様に (you ni) here is the sort used to make wishes. Example: 神様の恵みがあります様に。= May the blessing of God be upon you

Literally “peace, as it is to be defined, exhaustion is made into its replacement”. But 消耗 (shoumou) might also refer to 消耗戦 (shoumousen), i.e. attritional warfare. This is a military strategy where a country attempts to beat the enemy by basically wearing them down until they’re flat out of resources and any real way to fight back. My personal take on this lyric is it might be referring to how in the singer’s mind, feeling “peace” has been replaced with feeling “exhaustion”. Yet “nothing has really changed”, since the singer cannot spit out thier feelings and thus bottles this “exhaustion” up despite its existence, as if peace were still present. Also just a side note, but I enjoy the wordplay here with 代わりに成す (kawari ni nasu) and 変わりはなく (kawari wa naku). 

A bit more liberal here. But I’ve only ever seen 京楽 (kyouraku) used in settings meant to evoke religious/fantastical imagery... 京楽の悪魔 (kyouraku no akuma) or a demon of pleasure, etc. 嘘 (uso) means lie but it can also refer to the more ambiguous idea of just something not beign what you thought it was... So I thought “sin” would be the best choice here, given the song’s themes. For similar reasons, I also have translated 救われる (sukuwareru) or to be saved as “salvation”.

Here's my attempt at translation. She's gotten really deep and poetic in her writing, so please know by no means my translation would be as eloquent as her writing is in Japanese.

三浦徳子が作詞した曲では『真夜中のドア〜stay with me』が最高に良い

三浦徳子が肺炎で死去した。享年七十五。松田聖子の『青い珊瑚礁』で知って大した作詞家がいたと感心した。竹内結子の『ランチの女王』の脚本家の大森美香と同じくらい松田聖子の一番の良さを捉えてスターへ押し上げた人で、最高のプロデューサーだったと思う。

もう一曲、凄いと驚いたのは、近年、世界的にリバイバルヒットした松原みきの『真夜中のドア〜stay with me』の作詞もやっていた。作曲の林哲司は菊池桃子の『卒業』で知って良い曲を作ると喜んだことがあるし、素晴らしいコンビの見事な傑作だと聴き惚れる。

松原みきの『真夜中のドア〜stay with me』はシティポップブームの火付け役みたいにいわれるけれども曲自体はジャズファンクだと思う。黒人音楽で流行った1990年頃に出て来たら嬉しがって買ったかも知れない。日本ではORIGINAL LOVEの『接吻』がヒットした。

僕が特に好きだったのはブログでも取り上げたブランニューヘヴィーズやインコグニートやジャミロクワイなどで、新曲が出る度に聴き捲ってアルバムは必ず買って持っていたくらい完全に嵌まった。

ジャズファンクを最も上手くポップスに結び付けたのがマイケル・ジャクソンだ

僕が彼の曲の中で、一番、好きなのも正しくジャズファンク系ポップスの『Love Never Felt So Good』だ。遺作なので、音楽活動で何年も進化し続けた最高の到達点として受け留める。

Critical Zero

Felt like translating some tidbits from the official publication Critical Zero. These are comments about the anime episodes: TURN3:

秘密を知った部下をあっさり殺してしまうロロ。ここからロロが仲間を信用していないことと、ルルーシュの正体とギアスについて、ヴィレッタとロロ以外の人間は知らないことがうかがえる。のちにルルーシュを慕うようになるロロだが、それ以降でも他人の命を奪うことに対する躊躇のなさは変わらず、むしろ「兄さんのためなら」それ以外の人間は殺してもかまわないという、他者に対する想像力の欠落に繋がっていく。その意味でロロは本作の人間観をもっとも表現している存在だ。 Rolo kills the subordinate who learned a secret without a second thought. Here we see that Rolo does not trust his companions, and that no one but Villetta and Rolo knows about Lelouch's identity and Geass. Although Rolo later comes to adore Lelouch, even after that he does not hesitate to take the lives of others, or rather, doesn’t mind killing other people "for brother’s sake", which is tied to the inability to see things from other people’s perspective. In that sense, Rolo is the one that most represents this series’ view of what humans are like. Well, considering he was called a murder weapon all his life I would highlight how much introspection he’s capable of and say that to me instead he represents wanting to acquire human values despite circumstances working against allowing him to do so, but I guess that it is still true he didn’t often put himself in other people’s shoes during his lifetime, whether he’s to blame or not.

ルルーシュとシャーリーの尾行にリヴァルとロロを連れてきたミレイは、傍らのロロに、シャーリーのことを「ひょっとしたら家族になるかも」と言い、ロロは抑揚なく「家族……」とつぶやく。ロロが家族というものを知らず、のちに第１３話でシャーリーを殺害することを考えると、皮肉な言葉だ。なお、ミレイは第７話で生徒会の「みんな」の内にルルーシュと一緒にロロの名前もあげ、しっかりロロも仲間と考えている。しかし、ロロがなついているのはあくまでルルーシュだけなのだ。 Milly, who brought Rivalz and Rolo with her to follow Lelouch and Shirley, says to Rolo who is next to her “She might become your family” about Shirley, and Rolo whispers “Family...” monotonously. Considering that Rolo doesn't know what a family is and later kills Shirley in episode 13, it’s ironic. In addition, Milly also includes Rolo’s name alongside Lelouch’s when she refers to the Student Council’s “everyone” in episode 7, and firmly considers Rolo part of their group. However, the only one Rolo is attached to is Lelouch.  We know Milly still remembered Rolo in vol 9′s Illust Drama, and this book, Critical Zero, also has post-Zero Requiem Rivalz&Kallen&Gino looking at photos and Rivalz seeing one that includes Rolo and wondering whether he isn’t hungry or injured somewhere. Shirley also seems like she wouldn’t hate Rolo even after getting killed by him. Kiseki no Birthday’s Nunnally wanted to meet Rolo too... Please, Genesic Re;Code, Lost Stories or whatever other medium, could you give us an AU where Rolo realizes that there were more people who cared about him and where he can truly feel loved and accepted and happy? And doesn’t pull a knife on any of those who are treating him nicely? TURN7:

電車内のモニターに突然流れたナナリーの放送に、うろたえるルルーシュ。これはロロが車掌室に潜入し、ルルーシュを追いつめるために流した映像だ。ルルーシュを孤立させ、弱ったところに最愛の弟として独占しようという、かなり邪悪な作戦なのだが、弱体化していたルルーシュには最悪の攻撃だったと言えよう。同時に、最愛の存在が敵となってしまった理不尽な挫折を味わっているルルーシュのナナリーへの複雑な思いが強迫観念的な抑圧として表現されている。

Lelouch is shaken by the sudden broadcast of Nunnally inside the train’s monitors. It’s a video that Rolo played by infiltrating the conductor's room in order to corner Lelouch. His intention is to isolate Lelouch and monopolize him as his beloved little brother when he’s weak, a rather evil strategy, but one that could be considered the worst attack on said weakened Lelouch. At the same time, we see Lelouch’s feelings, who is experiencing the unreasonable setback of his most beloved person having become an enemy, depicted as an obsessive oppression. YOU MANIPULATE ME, I MANIPULATE YOU BACK. They call it “evil”, but Lelouch only got back a kinder version of what he did to Rolo in Turn 4. Unlike Lelouch, Rolo never lied when he described the reality Lelouch would obtain if they stayed together as brothers. So even if Rolo's intention wasn’t to get revenge on Lelouch, I applaud him for managing to also make him feel psychologically overwhelmed for a bit. Shame the plan didn’t work. TURN8:

ルルーシュは、学園の日常を守ること、しかしブリタニアによるまやかしの支配は否定することを新たな目的とする。母の復讐とナナリーの未来のみを目的としていたそれまでの彼からの大きな方向転換だ。ロロはルルーシュの言葉に安堵するが、彼は自分が「まやかしの支配」に属することに気づいていない。ルルーシュにとっての「守るべき日常」には、ナナリーの居場所はあってもロロの居場所はない。だから「同じ運命だね。僕たち」というロロの言葉に、ルルーシュは何も答えないのだが。 Lelouch’s new purpose is to protect the everyday life at school, while nonetheless rejecting Britannia’s phony governance. It's a big shift from him, who until then had only focused on his mother's revenge and Nunnally’s future. Rolo is relieved by Lelouch's words, but is unaware that he too is part of that "phony governance." In Lelouch’s “everyday life that must be protected” there’s a place for Nunnally, but not for Rolo. That’s why when Rolo says “We share the same destiny, don’t we?” Lelouch doesn’t answer. So that awkward moment of silence before Villetta shows up was on purpose. I find it peculiar that Lelouch would react with silence instead of just keeping on lying though. Almost sounds like he might have felt... even slightly guilty maybe? TURN18:

ＫＭＦ同士の戦闘の一方、ロロは咲世子とともに、ブリタニア政庁にいるナナリーの救出に向かう。ルルーシュは「ナナリーさえ取り返せば、ロロ、お前は使用済みなんだよ」とつぶやくが、ロロの真意は、自分以外のルルーシュの家族であるナナリーを殺すことだった。そんなロロにルルーシュが何故ナナリー救出を命じたのか謎だが、ロロが自分から志願したのではないかと考えられる。しかし、その割にナナリーの脱出艇に直行せずＫＭＦの鹵獲に回ったのは慎重さのためだったのか。

While the Knightmare Frames are fighting each other, Rolo, together with Sayoko, heads towards rescuing Nunnally who is in the Britannia government office. Lelouch murmurs "Once you get Nunnally back, Rolo, you’re not needed anymore," however, Rolo's true intention was to kill her for being a family member to Lelouch other than himself. Why Lelouch would order Rolo who is like that to rescue Nunnally is a mystery, but it is possible that it was Rolo himself who volunteered. However, that he did not go straight to Nunnally’s escape craft and instead went to capture a Knightmare Frame might be because he was being cautious.

Really? Lelouch just agreed to let Rolo be the one to go rescue Nunnally? Imagine Rolo’s internal fist pump when Lelouch actually answered “Okay”. 

TURN19:

ルルーシュに突き放されたはずのロロは、みずからの意志でルルーシュを助ける。それは皮肉にも最初で最後の自発的行動で、兄への反抗だった。実の兄弟 だったV．V．とシャルルはお互いに嘘をついたことで決裂したが、これと対照をなすように、もともと偽の兄弟だったロロとルルーシュは、兄の嘘を弟があえて信じようとすることで、実の兄弟以上の絆となった。自分を救ったロロに、ルルーシュは最後に「お前の兄は嘘つきなんだよ」と語る。矛盾した言葉だが、おそらく本作品で一番美しい嘘だろう。 Rolo, who in theory had been pushed away by Lelouch, saves Lelouch of his own volition. Ironically, his first and last autonomous action was of disobedience against his brother. V.V. and Charles, who were real brothers, ended up parting ways after lying to each other, and by contrast, Rolo and Lelouch, who were originally fake brothers, transformed their bond into more than real brothers when the little brother decided to go ahead and believe his big brother's lies. In the end, Lelouch tells Rolo, who saved him, “Your big brother is a liar”. It's a contradictory line, but probably the most beautiful lie in this series. Congrats, Rolo, Niisan and you are now more than brothers! What does that mean in practice? I don’t know, but I do know that Lelouch and Rolo were shown together often enough in artwork and things like Kiseki no Birthday long after the show was over, and that that has stopped happening in recent years!!! Lelouch barely interacts with Rolo now, his one and only little brother who is sometimes officially called “more" than that!! Is it that the Rolo fans from the staff are gone? Well, if R2′s rerun's Turn 25 is the same as the TV or DVD versions, then Lelouch’s dying flashback will have that exclusive new Rolo image which he even pauses on so as to leave no doubt about how important Rolo was to him, and the true bond of the Lamperouge brothers will be strong again in 2022!! I just have to keep telling myself that!

For Ryo-san, this is their first time making a song for Kamen Rider Revice.

逢瀬2回目。

・

あのあとも、ずっとLINEでの関係性は不調だった。

会わないって選択肢提示しちゃう？って、くらい。

電話も3日ぐらいしてなくて、

もう興味ないなら別れるって言えばいいのに、と

思うぐらいに最悪だった。

そんな空気感があったからか、なんなのか。

空港で再会したら、全部払拭された。

ただ、ただ、一緒に居るのが幸せだった。

0距離で歩いてるだけで、幸せになる。

2回目なのに、もう何��も会ってる感じがして、

そういう時間が幸せだった。

今回は、朝ごはんをテイクアウトしようと、
