Hello, happy holidays! For the End of the year ask meme if you'll like to answer any of the following: 8 (game of the year), 25 (a character you created), 14 (fav book), or 18 (a memorable meal)
Happy holidays! I hope they've treated you well <3
8: I don't play many games myself (only Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and silly seek-and-find puzzle games) and my laptop was too tuckered for games for most of the year, but even if I'd been farming nonstop I think the game of the year would still be Final Fantasy VII Remake. Pretty sure it'll be the game of every year until it's all out, and then maybe a couple years more for good measure. I am having such an incredible time following the game as it comes out and @kaylithographica plays through it, and I can't wait to see how Square Enix keeps going with the meta and story changes.
25: Some of the more complex edits I've been trying to work on this week actually revolve around a particular OC, so we'll talk about her. Her name is Mercy, and she was not supposed to be important (folks who have lived with me may be familiar with this refrain). She was supposed to be a filler character! She's an archetype! Her name is Mercy and she has none! Grr rar tragic backstory vengeance quest knife collection! But nooo now she's got layers. She's got depth. We're emotionally invested in her character arc. Damn it. Anyway she befriends her local main characters to use them as pawns in her revenge plot, spends a lot of time with them waiting for them to vouch for her to her target, gives up her first chance at revenge because she has to go save them instead (in a scene so terribly close to the classic 'stand at crossroad, look longingly at selfish goal down the left, turn back fully on goal to run to friends down the right path' that I may rewrite it to avoid cliche shame), and then eventually gives up her scheming entirely because it would be too much of a betrayal of her very best friends the main characters. She was supposed to die in the first rescue, and then the whole story locked up and I had to go back through trying to find the writer's block instigation point, and I realized I've made too optimistic a world to kill her off without friends or redemption. She's (big sigh) thematically significant now. At least she's also very cool.
14: I'm going with my favorite book that came out this year, to help narrow things down: "The Innocent Sleep", by Seanan McGuire. Seanan McGuire is one of my favorite authors and this is my favorite of her ongoing serieses, and usually we get one a year (usually just in time to be my birthday present to myself! a joyous coincidence) but this year we got two. "Sleep No More" and "The Innocent Sleep", paired stories, one from Toby's point of view and one from Tybalt's. The current state of their world means that these two POVs of the same happenings are wildly different, and it's fascinating (a little heart-wrenching sometimes) to see. Also, Tybalt and his friends dimension-door into Costco in the dead of night and steal all their catfood. It's amazing.
18: The vegeble man had a special on collard greens one time, and I bought a 'bundle' thinking it was your standard grocery-store greens bundle, a generous handful at most. It was more like an armful. Apparently the special was because they'd been sold a literal truckload of greens (perfectly good but disqualified as 'organic' by some neighbor shenanigans) and needed to offload them quickly because the fridge wasn't ready for such a bumper crop. I cooked them in batches with andouille sausage and bacon and just a touch of this amazing miso ghost-pepper hot sauce Duncan has, and we ate them for our next four meals (with grits, with cornbread and grilled tomatoes, with fried eggs and beer bread, and then the last of them mixed into red beans and rice). I really miss not just Southern food but access to Southern ingredients (the 'andouille' sausage I get here is pitiful, and bacon is no substitute for a proper salt-ham, and neither is beer bread always a good alternative to a buttermilk biscuit or quickbread) and it was so nice to have a proper mess of greens again.

Hey Flight Rising Tumblr, can you help me locate this artist? Original link here https://66.media.tumblr.com/e69874e5996d36526c8a69607fdb18c1/tumblr_od61pqsWO01sncj5so1_r2_1280.png
This piece came with a dragon that I recently purchased, and they've had it for many years. It does not have a source or an artist associated with it in the bio so I don't know who to credit. It's a shot in the dark as they probably left FR years ago but I wanted to try.
Edit: source found! Thanks @sunkentowers!!

Get to know me better
Tag 10 people you want to get to know better
Saw @sunkentowers did this and I wanted to play as well
Relationship status: engaged to @zinglebert-bembledack
Favorite color(s): grey/black/silver
Favorite food: CHEESE
Song stuck in my head: most of the day it was Death Cab for Cutie's cover of Waterfalls
Last thing you googled: London weather in April 1995
Time: 1:06 am
Dream trip: A huge slow roadtrip cross country (I live in NC) to WA and then take the Alaskan Marine Highway System up and explore Alaska. Or a transatlantic cruise. Or Australia.
Last thing you read: Reread our Raine and Sky story. If you want published, I reread The Hand on the Wall and I'm in the middle of The Box in the Woods and hopefully starting Nine Liars soon. (I keep getting distracted rereading our fic though.)
Last book you enjoyed reading: I love rereading our stuff. Raine and Sky were sudden serious favorites. I like Maureen Johnson's Stevie Bell books. I like her books period.
Last book I really fell for? Book Lovers. I devoured everything by that author. They were fun, quick reads and the banter was top notch.
Last book you hated reading: Hate to name names but I read a moderately popular book that seemed really diverse and fun - or tried to - but found I couldn't even get through the main character's introduction.
Favorite thing to cook/bake: I now entirely and excessively despise cooking so much that it has become difficult to force myself to make food. This super sucks because I'm a really big fan of eating.
Favorite craft to do in your free time: Writing? Does that count?
Most niche dislike: The can dispenser in my fridge which was apparently not made by anyone who'd ever seen a can. I figured out how to make it work and then managed to bust a can of soda in it and let me tell you that was a nightmare to clean up a leaking soda trapped in a can dispenser. Now it's a huge and infuriating waste of space.
Opinion on circuses: Pretty cool but I can't say I have much need/desire to go see one anymore.
Do you have any sense of direction: Moderately? Sometimes I think I do and it turns out I was super wrong but just as often I figure it out fine based on that internal instinct.
Tell us about your D&D character: Redacted Redacted is a drow conman and flirt with a tragic backstory who's entire reason for existing now is just to have a good time. He's a ton of fun to play after my last character who was the most anxious and responsible and devoted man alive (or dead.) He's rich enough he doesn't have to con people anymore so he just does it for funsies. Somehow caught up in a bunch of mysterious stuff, he's mostly just trying to fuck around and find out while looking amazing.
Tagging anyone who wants to play to, I'd love to hear your answers, especially that last one! Nobody asked me and I did it anyway. If I can't be your bad example, I don't know what I have to offer.

Hello! So Concordia seems like a dragon who really enjoys both the quiet and more boisterous moments in life. What's her favourite evening routine? Silanahredwing's my FR blog btw
Tumblr media
oh yes, she definitely does!! she prefers the quiet a bit more, but definitely doesn't mind some excitement once in awhile haha
she puts in a lot of work for growing her grapes but outside of that it's definitely Concordia Time..wine and relaxation. she isn't someone who likes to have a packed schedule, instead preferring taking things one day at a time. By the evening she's probably already had a good amount to drink and can usually be found off somewhere around the gardens just napping. she doesn't really like being cooped up inside haha. quiet evenings watching the sun set slowly with her girlfriend are always nice too of course!
She's not the most social dragon, but she does like to get together with her longtime friends Elder and Devilsaur on occasion, usually for card games c:

My crowley is dressed like: https://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=106773&tab=dragon&did=46831018 if any parts of his outfit tickles your fancy
I love him.
Honestly, I think I’m going to have to resign myself to just having like seven different outfits, one for each era.

This is such BS. I hate it when other docs/PAs do this shit too. Dude, I'm newish to this. Like explain to me why rationally. I promise I'll listen. Yelling or belittling is not needed ever.
sunkentowers replied to your post “look dude my cardiology knowledge is subpar when i’m well rested, much...”
*sob* So bluffing it is apparently the prefered method of medical practice then? /sarcasm
seriously, I’m there to learn, I’m honest about what I don’t know, if there’s something I should have already known just tell me
the cherry on top is that I woke up post-call to a text from a co-intern saying “hey he was worried you didn’t know that and he’s gonna ask you about it tomorrow” which means that
1) he continued to talk about how stupid I was after I left to a room full of other people
2) he doesn’t have the decency to just say “hey read about this for tomorrow,” leaving me to find out secondhand from a thankfully very decent coworker
3) I can’t just relax on the couch with my Chinese food and watch GBBO but have to study in the few hours I’m gonna be awake (...assuming, of course, I’ll be able to fall asleep which is unlikely given the knot of dread now in my stomach)

he doesn't tend to use chapters. You just have to choose where to stop but his later books do
Thanks! I asked my husband (he read quite a few) and he said he didn’t remember them not having chapters, but he read them a while ago, so he wasn’t sure.

Head/Face plates? Shoulder augmentations? Though that is pretty close to arm
due to the way the gijinkas are posed (front or 3/4 view) and costumed (BLANKETS) shoulder stuff doesn’t really work since it’s... basically not visible ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey hey, sliding this in under the door in the morning:
For the book as meme, 4 (fav sci-fi), 13 (fav thriller), and 37 (least fav trope used in a way that works for you)?
Did not actually read-read the other responses yet, so questions may have duplicated.
4) Favorite sci-fi: The answer I gave carrionfourth was: "The Ship Who Sang and Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey. Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie. Exit Strategy and Network Effect by Martha Wells. The Galaxy and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers. Rescues and the Rhyssa by TS Porter". I stand by all that, it's absolutely correct, but now I'm also thinking about Anne McCaffrey's works in general, and the incredible impact it had on me when I was a kid, to see her work her worldbuilding around so that she had fantasy staples like dragons (the Dragonriders of Pern) and unicorn girls (literally she named that series 'Acorna the Unicorn Girl'. I am in awe) and selkies (the Petaybee serieses) but with so much space travel and science around them that the books themselves still felt clearly sci-fi. She's not the only one, not by a long shot, but she was the first I read, and she changed the way I thought about genre conventions on a fundamental basis. There's a good chance that without her, I wouldn't have ever bothered reading any sci-fi, actually. There was a little chunk of time there where it seemed very much to me that fantasy books were for people (mostly girls) who liked animals and cared about having friends and sci-fi was for people (mostly men) who liked being very smart and having other people be afraid of them, and if I'd kept going with that mentality I think I'd be a much unhappier person today.
13) Favorite thriller: Well, having just said all that about being so glad I was taught to think outside the genre binary as a child, now I must confess I don't read a lot of thrillers. There's a level/type of suspense that just translates as stress to me, in a way I don't particularly enjoy (I watched a couple episodes of the Fargo show with Duncan and the intensity kept ramping up and when we turned the tv off my neck and shoulders ached. I'm just not good at it). I do really like mysteries--favorite mystery novel is probably The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie; I mostly preferred the Marple shows but I love the Poirot books--and romantic suspense is great--Elizabeth Lowell (fave Lowell book is Always Time to Die) and Jayne Ann Krentz (Lie to Me) are both fantastic romantic suspense writers--and the crossover of both that is the JD Robb In Death series is an unending delight to me. But mostly I'd say I go for mysteries or adventures over thrillers.
37) Least fav trope used in a way that works for you: I really love The Last-Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, even though it has a tremendous amount of angst and suffering compared to my normal tastes, kills off the main character's love interest in the first book, and then has him show up again reincarnated to pair off with the main character once more. Only Mercedes Lackey could keep me genuinely invested through that storyline. Azure Bonds by Kate Novak and Jeff Grubb, also: amnesia, followed by false memories, with a final flourish of 'am I even a real person if these are my origins', but actually the book's a heckin romp. It's the first in the Finder's Stone trilogy, which is overall deeply entertaining but a real nightmare to try to explain or describe to people who haven't read it.

  Discworld Fans!
how is he with folklore? wyrd sisters is an interesting take on hamlet/macbeth
This is true! But I’m not sure it’s the strongest Witches book, and most of the guys I know don’t connect with the Witches as much as I do. I will definitely think about it!
