kny x tokyo ghoul au
was thinking abt following tokyo ghoul's storyline and making nezuko get organ donor ghoul-ified like kaneki but on second thought that seems a bit boring. the slayer marks (tanjiro's specifically- that one frame in the red light district arc where he looks like hes absolutely lost it) made me think of the sort of insanity thing with centipede kaneki when he started eating ghouls. (nezuko's bout of literally losing control of herself beating daki is probably a bit closer tho) dont know what to do with that. tanjiro being human and having to keep nezuko safe with her new life as a half-ghoul is pretty cool but i dont know. could make it different
#sakonji as coffee shop owner and sabito & giyuu as workers and the fox squad being the underground Good Ghouls makes me kick my feet#goth/alt vibe makomo as the mask maker MWAH and sabito & giyuu playing as regular college kids. giyuu 'eating' out with friends and#sabito drive-by eating his food before booking it (Sabito-! you bastard!) and later when theyre alone giyuu holding his hair back#(you should stop eating my food all the time..) ((im fine- as long as it makes it easier on you))#tanjiro working as a server & nezuko more as#.#i forgot hanae-san also voiced Kaneki#what the fuck is it with him and voicing the main characters of anime about the morality of cannibalism#its not much but its weird that its happened twice#i completely fucking forgot abt that and here i am literally putting tanjiro in his place#as i was saying nezuko has a 'job' there but shes not actually employed or forced to work she just hangs around in uniform like her brother#while tanjiro's the one thats employed. shes the cute mascot of the place and sabito gets hype with her and it entertains ppl#sabito nezuko interactions beloved<3 she makes him go big brother mode#giyuu's behind the counter helping sakonji make coffee so he doesnt have to interact with people (as much)#something something also half-ghoul genya being an antagonist at first until tanjiro & nezuko's bond makes him change his mind#and he becomes the newest employee at the coffee shop. que him and sabito bickering at eachother like children and tanjiro being so#sweetfaced and genuinely kind to him & giyuu being a chill comforting presence he can go to#confides in them his fear about his brother and the guilt he feels for being around them bc it puts them in danger#mm#sweet au. great playing field to ruin absolutely everyone#i should rewatch/read tokyo ghoul its been almost a year i think#do that then decide how i want the au to play out if i want it to try to follow that storyline or if i should do some worldbuilding fuckery#of my own instead to completely change how nezuko & genya's half-ghoulness would happen#i remember i dropped tokyo ghoulre but i dont remember why. didnt bother after that Hide scene in the anime but i dont remember y the manga#i was listening to Seijatachi for writing vibes and stared a bit too long at the album image i put#kny#tokyo ghoul#kamado tanjiro#kamado nezuko#kny x tokyo ghoul au

Camp Blue Side - Part One - Part Two - Part Three - Part Four
~~~~~~~
It’s been a hard few days at Camp Blue Side. After the very humbling experience of having the LCT lay into you in front of Hoseok, you’ve decided to let Mack take the reins on all future activities. It’s helped you avoid conflict with Hoseok during team games.
Unfortunately, Mack had some kind of stomach issue this morning, so you are flying solo. Well mostly solo, you are under the watchful eye of Namjoon. He’s checked in on you during every activity. Today, all three teams are on the field for a giant game of capture the flag. Namjoon is explaining the rules, in great detail, to all the campers.
“Each team will nominate one person to hide their flag, make sure it’s in a spot where it can be reached and defended.” Namjoon explains before passing out the colored flags.
Team Two nominates Matthew, who has made a speedy recovery from his injuries and is now back at all activities. Namjoon hands the green flag to Matthew who takes off to your team’s allotted area to hide the flag. Then, all the teams gather at their respective bases before the game begins.
“Three, two, one, go!” Namjoon shouts and blows his whistle to announce the start of the game.
You watch carefully, a few feet away from the base, as your campers take their positions. Some are staying back to defend the flag, but most of them have run off to attempt to steal another team’s.
“Y/N! Y/N!” Jessica comes running up to you, calling for you.
“Are you okay?” You ask, crouching down to Jessica’s eye level.
“Hoseok’s team is cheating!” She wines.
“What are you talking about?” You ask, trying your absolute best to keep your cool. You haven’t had to speak to him since the meeting, but your blood is starting to boil.
“They hid their flag in a tree! I can’t reach it!” She explains.
“I’ll take care of it.” You reply.
Hoseok wants to win so badly that he would cheat. Doesn’t this go against Camp Blue Side rules? Isn’t this the kind of competitive bull shit that you just got scolded for? You march over to Hoseok’s team’s base and look around for him.
“Hey! Hoseok!” You shout when you see him leaning up against a tree.
“What?” He spits, walking to close the distance between you.
“I heard you’re cheating over here.”
“Excuse me?” He replies. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Namjoon and the Team Three leader running across the field to see what’s going on.
“You’re cheating! You can’t put the flag in the tree!” You yell.
“Stop yelling in front of the kids! It’s not cheating!” He yells back.
“Yes it is! The kids are supposed to be able to reach it, and Jessica couldn’t reach it!”
“Well it’s not our fault that Jessica is shorter than the average kid!” Hoseok retorts.
“Why can’t you just play fair? You are ruining the summer!” You may be projecting a bit, retelling the things that you have been accused of the past few weeks.
“Why are you being such a bitch?” He responds, clearly too heated to remember there are kids around. Namjoon tries to interject, but there’s something spilling out of your mouth before you even realize it.
“WHY DIDN’T YOU EVER CALL ME?” You shout. Namjoon whips his head around to you and there is a chorus of gasping from the kids caught in the crossfire.
“I TRIED. YOU GAVE ME THE WRONG NUMBER!”
“What? No I didn’t! You ghosted me!” You reply once again, but this time Namjoon steps between you and puts his hands up. But there’s no point, the realization is starting to sink in.
Hoseok tried to call you. An image flashes in your mind, it takes you back to last summer. You hadn’t swapped phone numbers yet. You didn’t need to because you saw each other everyday. On the last day of camp, you thought it would be cute to write your number on his hand. But apparently you either wrote the wrong number or it smudged.
“Okay let’s have everyone return to their bases. Team One will adjust their flag and we will start again.” Namjoon says after a beat of silence and realization. “Can you two get yourselves under control?” He adds under his breath.
“Yeah.” You and Hoseok reply in unison. He meets your eye and for the first time all summer, they look like the eyes you fell for last year. Soft, sweet, welcoming.
You can’t quite focus during the rest of the game. You’re really just processing the information you’ve just learned. Once the game is finished (Team Three managed to grab Team One’s flag), the campers all head to their cabins to wash up for dinner. Hoseok is hanging back to collect the equipment, but since Mack is out today, you have to go with the kids back to the cabins.
“So, you’re basically saying that he never ghosted you and you’ve both been being stupid all summer?” Margo asks, mouth full of pizza.
“Yes.” You confirm. The girls at the table are engrossed in their own conversations, so you and Margo can talk about the events of the day. She looks over your shoulder and across the Mess Hall to Hoseok’s table.
“So, can y’all start dating now?” Margo questions.
“He still has a girlfriend as far as I know, so no I don’t think so.” You reply. The pizza on your plate doesn’t seem very appetizing. You can’t stop thinking about how one small mistake has messed things up so much. Misunderstanding or not, Hoseok has moved on already.
“He’s coming over here.” Margo says, almost choking on her drink.
“What?” You gasp, but it’s too late. Hoseok has made an appearance at your table. He is standing, waiting for your attention.
“Hey, could you meet me at the lake tonight? After lights out?” Hoseok whispers so the campers at the table can’t hear it. The quiet tone of his voice sends a chill down your spine.
You can’t form words, but you nod, agreeing to meet him later.
~~~~~~~
The sun sets, the lights go out, and you are exhausted. The anger that has been fueling you for the past few weeks has fizzled out. You’re not sure what to expect from Hoseok at the lake. Probably an apology. You hope he’ll apologize for being a dick to you and calling you a bitch.
Despite your heavy eyelids, you slip on your shoes and quietly leave your cabin. When you arrive at the edge of the beach, you can see Hoseok standing out by the water’s edge. He’s facing the lake, watching the last slivers of sunlight disappear. Crossing the sand, you close the gap between you and stand next to him.
“I’m sorry I called you a bitch.” He says.
“I forgive you.” You reply. You probably should offer up an apology of your own, but you get the feeling he has more to say when he turns to face you.
“I made her up.” He says. “I don’t actually have a girlfriend back home. I just wanted to save face after finding out you gave me the wrong number. Or well, you know what I mean.”
“So, you’re still single?” You ask.
“Yeah, I am.” He replies.
You can’t help the laughter that bursts out of you. Maybe it’s the only way your body can react to the mix of emotions and relief you’re feeling right now. Hoseok looks a little dumbfounded by your reaction, so you just decide to do the one thing you’ve been dreaming about for the past year. You grab his face with both of your hands and lean in to kiss him.
It doesn’t take long for Hoseok to catch up. He grabs your waist and pulls your body toward his and deepens the kiss. It has been a year since you’ve felt his full lips pressed against yours, but somehow it feels like all that time is being erased.
Hoseok’s hand slips under your top, his fingers gently gracing your skin. His lips travel down the side of your face to your neck. You decide to throw caution to the wind and pull away to take off your top. Hoseok follows suit, taking off his shirt to reveal his toned stomach.
You lightly drag your finger nails down his stomach and he sucks in a breath. The action drives him to sit on the ground and to tug on your shorts. You follow him to lay on the sand. It won’t be fun to clean up later, but it doesn’t matter. You need to feel his body against yours.
Before you can think about it, you are on top of him. Each of you exploring the other’s body with your hands. It’s familiar, but novel at the same time. Hoseok grabs your breast over the fabric of your sports bra and it sends a jolt to your core.
“Is this okay?” He asks, pulling away to catch his breath.
“Yes, I want you so bad Hobi.” You reply, and he’s on you again. He pulls down your shorts, and discards them. His fingers trail your body from your belly button down to your pelvis. His touch gives you shivers and when he comes in contact with your wet slit, you gasp.
He circles your clit a few times, spreading the wetness around before he takes over with his tongue. Licking at your most sensitive spots. He sucks on your clit, making you moan loudly before he releases you.
“Please, Hobi.” You urge. Hoseok pulls away, leaving you almost fully exposed on the beach. He returns quickly, now fully exposed himself.
“Ready?” He asks, positioning himself over you. You nod frantically, body anticipating the feeling you’ve been missing since last summer. Hoseok leans forward, teasing you with the tip of his hard cock. The moan you let out convinces him to slip it in just a little.
He continues slowly, painfully slow. When he’s almost all the way inside you, he pulls back again and begins to find his rhythm. Your arms are wrapped firmly around his body, pulling him as close as you can as he thrusts into you. The feeling is so full and so good that you clench around him. He groans and you know it won’t be long before you’re both climaxing.
As his rhythm begins to become uneven, you can tell he’s close. You drop your hand from his body and find your clit, helping yourself get there at the same time as him. He stops his hips and you can feel him cumming inside your throbbing pussy.
“Hobi!” You call his name as you’re pushed over the edge. After giving you a moment to come down from your high, he pulls out of you and lays flat on his back. He pulls you over to lay against his muscular chest.
“That was amazing.” He smiles.
“Yeah it was.” You nod in agreement, still feeling the phantom motion of your bodies.
“I can’t believe we could've been doing that all summer.” He laments, gently rubbing your back.
“Well we’ve got the last three weeks of summer. We’ll just have to go back to Cabin 13 like we did last year. I do not like having sand in my crevices.”
“Oh hell no. We are never going anywhere near that place. It’s haunted.” Hoseok replies.
“Oh yeah, about that...”

☆.。.:* wayv as your high school crushes 0.2 .。.:*☆
Tumblr media
A/N: Please be mindful that these are just my personal opinions on the type of high school crush they would be based on their overall personality, how I see them, how the other members see them, etc. Because this was a long one to write, I had split it into two parts (older members + younger members). The older members’ part should be out already. If you don’t like the result, then I’m sorry but I don’t know what to say other than although this is an AU I tried to make it as real as possible with outcomes that I seemed would be more likely in the sense that not all high school crushes are meant to be yours as sad as that may sound. :(

Wong Yukhei
Tumblr media
The Athlete
Literally good at any sport he does.
Has lots of muscles (which is mainly the reason why a lot of these girls finds him attractive).
Also very handsome. :(
Highkey knows all these girls have a crush on him and lowkey flirts with them whenever they talk to him.
Very kind-hearted though.
He knows his limits. If he feels a girl is taking his flirting a little too seriously or a girl actually confesses to him, he’d know that’s when he needs to stop.
He’d always reject them on the spot if that ever happened.
He wouldn’t be too harsh though.
Doesn’t have a lot of friends because of him being athletic and popular but because of his great personality.
He’s kind, funny, sweet, and overall just a great guy.
Other than being all those things, he’s also a huge nerd.
Pretty smart & loves playing PC games.
If he’s not out on the field practicing, he can be found at the computer cafe near the school playing PC games with his friends.
No one except his closest friends knows that he actually wears contacts & glasses.
You weren’t really fond of him at first because although he didn’t seem like a bad guy, it just didn’t fit your taste that he was easily able to flirt with every girl that steps within five feet from him.
He actually tried talking to you a few times too, but you’d always either ignore him or walk past him.
Lowkey liked that about you.
You weren’t like the other girls, you didn’t chase him around or anything.
Little did you know that’s not the only thing he liked about you.
Just like him you were also a huge gamer. Also he thought you were really cute
The first time the two of you ever actually got a good look at each other and the first time you actually started to have a crush on him was when your brother (also Lucas’s teammate and best friend) had invited you to play a few games of LoL (League of Legends) with them at the computer cafe.
Although you didn’t want to at first, you knew that there wasn’t anything better you could do since most of your friends that you usually played with were all away on trips with their families for spring break.
“Oh, you made it!” your brother said as he pulled out the chair next to him that just so happened to also be next to Lucas’s seat.
“Yeah,” you said as you sat down and looked towards Lucas’s seat to see he was too focused on the food he was eating.
“Hey, this is my sister-” your brother started before Lucas interrupted.
“Y/N,” he said as he took the last bite of his pizza before turning to look at you, “I know. I’ve seen her around campus already. Why is she always so grumpy?”
Both him and your brother laughed as you almost punched Lucas’s arm but didn’t because you didn’t want to be too mean. also lucas was a lot cuter close up so you were kinda nervous
“Don’t worry, she’s always like that but she’s also an actual softie,” your brother teased as your face turned red and you actually punched your brother’s arm.
“I think she’s pretty cute when she’s grumpy,” Lucas muttered low enough that you could hear what he said but your brother couldn’t hear.
That’s when you actually felt it. Your heart wanting to jump right out of your chest.
The two of you didn’t really talk much after that, you just exchanged a few words whenever one needed help in the game.
However, the next week when you were all back at school, he started talking to you a lot more.
Although you didn’t really see it at first, everyone else saw it.
He wouldn’t even look at or speak to any of the girls crowding around him. As soon as he saw you, he picked up his long legs and headed straight past the crowd of girls and to you.
It was like he knew when and where you’d be almost every time. Which you didn’t entirely hate but you lowkey hated because the more he talked to you, the more you started to like him.
Most of the things he would say was him teasing you but that was just because despite lowkey flirting with other girls before he didn’t really know how to express his feelings about you properly.
Eventually he had asked you out and that was also when you were sure that you had a big crush on him.
The two of you are still together until this day.
Xiao Dejun
Tumblr media
The Boy Next Door
Your classic Josh Anderson... kinda.
The two of you have been neighbors for years.
Literally.
You two have practically known each other since you were born.
He was always there for you when you needed him.
Treated you like an absolute princess.
He made it his lifetime mission to protect you at all costs.
One time you had accidentally fell straight to the ground after sliding down the slide in your backyard and he instantly booked it to your side.
“Get on my back,” 7-year old Xiaojun said as he squatted down so you could get on his back.
Not gonna lie, he lowkey had some trouble standing up because he didn’t know that his small body could only carry so much weight on his back but he gave it his all and carried you back inside.
Once he had you sat down on one of the dinning table chairs, he ran to your bathroom on that level to grab your first aid kit.
Your mom tried to tell him that she could handle it, but he made it clear to her that he was confident that he got the situation under control.
After that, your mom just let him be while secretly taking a video to keep for memories and also to show to his mom because she thought he was such a little gentleman.
And he was. Actually, he still is a real gentleman.
Except, he wasn’t your gentleman anymore.
It wasn’t until he started dating your cousin once you guys started your second year of high school that you realized just how much he really meant to you.
He would still talk to you, which you liked because you didn’t want to lose him completely.
However, you didn’t get to see him as much since he was always with your cousin.
I mean, you were always free to hang out with them but once you had realized your true feelings for him it was just too difficult for you to put on a brave face in front of them.
I guess the more distant you two ended up becoming, the more not only you started to realize but also he started to realize that you both mean a lot more to each other than you had thought.
During your senior year, Xiaojun and your cousin broke up.
Although they didn’t say it was your fault, you still couldn’t help but feel guilty; especially with how your cousin started acting towards you after the breakup.
A few weeks later, Xiaojun had asked you to meet him at the soccer field after school.
He told you that he liked you, more than a friend, and you just told him you two should take things slow especially since you know that your cousin was still affected by it and although the two of you weren’t on good terms at that moment she was still family so.
After a while, you and Xiaojun actually started dating.
Still together now.
Wong Kunhang
Tumblr media
The Handsome Class Clown
It was no secret that Hendery was the most outgoing, obnoxious, exaggerated, loud, etc. boy in your class.
Lowkey didn’t know how you started to have a crush on him.
You still don’t know why.
You two were the complete opposites. Literally.
You were mostly humble and quiet with your occasional semi-loud moments whenever you and your friends would hang out after school or during lunch.
I guess the whole “opposites attract” thing was the case for you and Hendery.
At first of course you did not like him at all.
He made being the class president even harder for you.
Whenever you would ask everyone for their homework, he would always either flirt with you or try to crack one of his jokes which you just didn’t react to.
He made it his mission to make you laugh or at least smile once at him.
It wasn’t that he liked you or anything, he just wanted to see you smile once & also he just really wanted you to be his friend.
The more he talked to and approached you, the more you lowkey started to like him.
I mean, it was also no secret that he was one of the handsomest boys in your class but also despite him being obnoxious most of the time he’s actually pretty sweet.
Helped you carry stuff back to the classroom when your teacher sent you out to get some stuff from the main office.
“Here, I’ll help you,” he said as he had grabbed the stack of papers you were holding before you could decline his offer.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in class?” you asked as you tried to take the stack back but he just moved it away from your reach.
“Yeah, but I told the teacher I was going to the restroom but I just wanted to come help you.”
“Well, thank you then I guess,” you said as you just gave him a small smile.
Homeboy started cheering in the middle of the hallway because he finally got you to smile at him.
You lowkey found his reaction really cute. :((
Deadass drops all the papers and you two end up getting in trouble for mixing all the papers up.
You two become friends and you started to like him more.
Never confessed to him though because you didn’t want to ruin your friendship.
It wouldn’t have made a difference anyways because he moved after high school.
Liu Yangyang
Tumblr media
Your Bestfriend
Literally were inseparable since the day you became friends.
Arcade, movie, and late night hangouts almost every week.
Deadass climbs onto the tree in front of your window sometimes to hang out with you in your room when he’s bored at 2am.
“What are you doing here? It’s like 2am,” you say as you move out of the way to let him in before closing it quickly because it was cold.
“I’m bored,” he said as he flopped himself onto your bed, “Let’s make some ramen!”
Highkey is never in his own house to be honest.
Your siblings and both of your mutual friends had thought it was a little weird that he never wanted to leave your side but overtime you and everyone else just got used to it.
You two are literally two peas in a pod, partners in crime, each other’s ride or dies, etc.
Always there for you just as much as you’re always there for him. :(
NEVER stops talking.
Whether it’s during class, on the walk to school, on the walk home from school, whenever, wherever, he would literally never stop talking.
That was mainly because he lowkey didn’t want your attention anywhere else but him. :((
Deadass a savage sometimes but you know he loves you.
You love him too because Yangyang best boy.
You didn’t realize how much you actually liked his annoying ass until you started dating someone else though.
At first Yangyang was fine with it because he knew that if you were happy then he should be happy.
However, it was hard for him to see you be happy with someone else. </3
Lowkey started to become distant from you to the point where you two barely talked to each other.
Truly the one that got away. Or was he? :o
probably will see him again and reconnect during college

henlo. have an expanded Shining Quest AU.
to release some steam from my kettle of stress, have some noodling about a Shining Quest AU that’s less April Fool’s, more high-stakes high-fantasy, but still every bit as tropey, stuffed with otome trappings, and Yay Music as we’ve come to expect from Utapri
As with the last venture into this AU: not explicitly romantic, non-gendered MC, SFW, and mild CW for arranged marriages. I don’t know HEAVENS (plus they didn’t get canon classes for Shining Quest), so we’ll just be covering STARISH and Quartet Night!
Tumblr media
It’s a fairly typical setup -- there’s a fantasy kingdom, there’s a useless king, there’s a princess (Haruka) known for her talent for music composition, there’s a court of nobles and royals, all that usual hey. Magic is cast by mastery of the arts, whether that be visual, performing, musical, written, you name it.
There’s a looming threat of some sort of demon king or similar fantasy anime bullshit that the royals and nobles of the kingdom are tasked with keeping at bay. We’re also gonna shamelessly borrow a detail from the pinnacle of wasted potential, the movie Rock and Rule -- there’s a plot point about how a demon can only be forced back with “the magic of one voice, one heart, one song....but there is no one.” Here in this ‘verse, that’s a longstanding prophecy the status quo has taken to mean there’s no-one who’ll ever be able to defeat the demon king.
The solution that’s been in place for as long as anyone can remember is a royal or noble family offers one of their heirs as a sacrifice to be married off and sate the demon king for that generation-- the “devil’s bride” or “devil’s groom” or “devil’s betrothed.” This goes pretty badly for the heirs, of course, but it offers great prestige to the house that does it.
You, the player, would get to pick what RPG class you fill (which would affect some dialogue trees and the expertise you demonstrate) and what art you use to cast magic. You are a member of the royal guard tasked with Haruka’s protection, but you’ve stumbled into the knowledge before it goes public: she’s the next devil’s bride! You go to Tomochika, a hired hand to the royals who’s been dating Haru in secret, and you begin to hatch a plan to bust Haruka out of the arrangement.
Your route’s then determined by which of the boys you seek out as your other co-conspirator.
Tumblr media
Otoya is a fellow member the Royal Guard on Haruka protection detail. He’s equally resented and well-liked for his dauntless optimism and natural talent with swordsmanship, but it’s no secret that he’s not someone you’ll be trusting for expert strategy. He’s had the chance to become friendly with Haruka, and he’s ready to fight tooth and nail for her freedom! He’s classed as a warrior, who casts light-element attacks and healing spells with his music.
Tumblr media
Masato was raised from birth to become an ideal Devil’s Groom, since the Hijirikawa nobles are falling out of favor in the courts (spurred in part from their takedown of the Kurosakis backfiring on them). But Masato has rejected that he (or Mai) will ever go along with that plan, instead intently training in swordsmanship and fusing music and fiber arts to make enchanted fabrics that work like armor. Quietly, he has kept a very ambitious goal in mind: outright defeat the demon king and end the legacy of the devil’s betrothed.
Tumblr media
Natsuki is a natural genius at using both his voice and viola to communicate with creatures and summoning the cutest ones to absolutely wreck house. Though a humble farmboy who’s kind of out-of-touch with the political goings-on of his land, his talent was too great to go unnoticed forever, and he was invited to live among the high court as an entertainer and summoner. He got to make so many new friends (like the princess and you!) and better provide for his family, so he’s thankful every day for the change, even if he misses his animal friends at home!
Tumblr media
Tokiya came from a humble family that wanted to lead a quiet life, but Tokiya himself had ambitions that far outpace that. Though not a natural talent, he put unimaginable sweat into a field that creates potent spells and tools by the power of song. Eventually becoming estranged from his whole family, Tokiya finds it all worthwhile after struggling his way into being hired by the royals. Much of the court thinks of him as a weird mad scientist who sings to his books, but he’s found fast friends he’d go to the ends of the earth for, like Masato, the princess, and you!
Tumblr media
Ren is the inverse of Masato in his circumstance. Like the Hijirikawa noble family, the Jinguujis helped orchestrate the fall of the Kurosaki nobles, but the blowback had them falling out of favor instead of rising in power. Ren was planned to be offered as a Devil’s Groom to restore some clout, but instead of being intently groomed, he was left to do whatever he wanted since he’s got such a foregone future. So Ren becomes a carefree playboy, eventually taking his talent for alchemy and becoming a for-hire adventurer to sate his boredom. He tells everyone his saxophone is his secret to brewing his one-of-a-kind love potions, but he’s actually devised some uniquely remarkable revival and buffing potions.
Tumblr media
Syo comes from the same backwoods as Natsuki, but took less interest in working for the courts and instead trying to find a career emulating his childhood hero that kept his body’s limits in mind. But his twin left to pursue medical schooling, and eventually, between loneliness, worry, and the promise that the musical magic and medicine in the courts could help him safely push his limits, he follows Natsuki into the belly of the royals and nobles. His small stature and commitment to the movement arts made him a natural rogue, and he’s technically part of the Royal Guard’s special ops. But Syo’s brashness and burning spirit tends to best serve motivating the people around him -- what few spells he prefers to cast with his violin-playing are all buffs that lift the spirit and energize the body.
Tumblr media
Cecil came to this land on essentially a study abroad program and came to love the friends he made so much he stuck around! A wildly talented sorcerer able to cast even without playing his flute, Cecil is held in high esteem by the whole kingdom for the knowledge and skill he has to offer. Prone to disappearing, however, since a curse has him transforming into a cat as an occasional side effect of casting magic. He’s found this useful, though -- something injust he won’t stand for is afoot in this kingdom, and nobody suspects a little black cat of eavesdropping!
Tumblr media
Reiji is a court jester who loves, loves, loves nothing more than to make you smile! Much of the court takes his good cheer for granted, and even more underestimate his prowess in tough/delicate situations, but the most powerful folks know he’s just as sharp as he is goofy. When he’s not doing his job making people smile, he’s often helping or promoting his family’s pub or bugging his friends from outside the royal court. His flashy performances and maraca-shaking have been shaped into a great conduit for spells of transmutation, though he tends to use them to put on a great show more than beat ass.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru is the eldest son of the disgraced Kurosaki nobles (whose power and legacy were ruined by the Jinguujis and Hijirikawas as per usual) but he decided to bear the brunt of the damage in wake of his father’s passing to spare the rest of his family. Shouldering massive debt, Ranmaru disappeared and re-emerged as the gambler prince of the underground, now incredibly powerful in his own right. Not-so-secretly a big softie, he’ll swindle and ruin the lives of those who take advantage of the helpless, even operating out of a pub owned by an old couple that needed some protecting from loan sharks. Ranmaru wears special runed gloves that store mana when he plays his bass, letting him cast a set number of fire evocation spells before his next recharge.
Tumblr media
Ai lives in woods on the outskirts of the city. Most regard him as a hermit, but a couple know that Ai is actually a homunculus that has been refining his understanding and performance of humanity and needs frequent breaks to “recharge.” Nominally a ranger, Ai’s skills lie in his powerful patience and observation moreso than his bow and arrow, though he and Reiji have an arrangement where he helps hunt and forage ingredients for the Kotobuki pub. Ai is beginning to grasp his own unique sense of humanity and is ready to take grander action to realize it. He fights with arrows of a special alloy that react to an instrument at home; they are tempered by the sound and blessed by the wind to never miss their target should the wielder be skilled enough.
Tumblr media
Camus is an assassin that lives in shadow. Nobody’s quite sure of his intentions or allegiances, but the few times someone does see him in the open, he’s as haughty and demanding as ever. Rumor has it that he lives in the royal castle -- certainly, their enormously increased sweets output would imply such, and it’s well-known in the castle that unexplained cello music is usually his doing -- but he’s such an evanescent and terrifying presence nobody’s quite sure (and is too scared to ask). His assassinations are almost impossible to track, as his blades of ice melt, disappear, and leave no trail to follow.
Typical route stuff goes as you’d expect -- you progress the plot, you get closer to your chosen boy, some political intrigue things probably happen, some heart-racing events etc. etc., and before you know it the two of you are very close and realize that your arts cast wildly powerful magic when put together. Slowly, you gather more friends (a selection of the other boys + Haru and Tomo) and find that together, your work amplifies in power to unprecedented degrees. It’ll vary from route to route how you get there, but eventually, you all come to the same conclusion: it’s time to kick some demon king ass. And you do!
The ends vary from angsty (like the player or the chosen boy is mortally wounded or dies) or fairytale fluffy (go off and spend a happy life together) or something more power fantasy-feeling (like you and chosen boy revolutionize the whole kingdom for the better in wake of the demon king’s defeat), etc. -- but no matter what you know that your art + your boy + the power of friendship kicked more ass than anything Shining Kingdom has ever seen!

CHAPTER FOUR.
Lucas had no idea how long they were just talking. He’d neveR had a problem with social interactions before, but everything just had this amazing flow with Eliott. Every silence was comfortable, his stupid jokes weren’t rushed and he never had to force a smile on his lips. Nor did Eliott seem to fake any of his emotions, his small gasps and humming in agreement to Lucas’ stupid comments seemed genuine and his laughs were loud and filled with a kind of happiness Lucas hadn’t heard in a long time.
Eliott was the definition of a sunshine. Lucas could swear if he googled his name a picture of the sun would appear as first result. His smile was out of this world and lit up the entire room. Lucas couldn’t take his eyes off him even if he wanted to; which he absolutely did not. Not even the dogs managed to draw his attention away.
Eliott told Lucas he was working at a café in the other side of town which is where he got to know Alison. He lived alone and had no relatives left nearby. It was a bit sad, Eliott admitted, but he loved Paris so much he couldn’t even consider moving. Then he winked and told Lucas he made the right choice, because now they were sitting there together. Lucas pretended he had no idea he was blushing like an idiot. Eliott told him a lot about himself, but never anything below the surface. He told him the basics; work, family, friends, but he was careful not to go too deep into anything. Lucas didn’t mention it, but he did notice.
Lucas told Eliott he had no job at the moment, but it was fine because he had a lot of savings. He didn’t want to lie to him, and that was the closest to the truth he could bring himself to tell. He knew he was doing the exact same thing as Eliott did; only scratching the surface of who he really was. Really, it shouldn’t matter what he said because Eliott would be too dead to tell anyone about it.
Eliott hummed quietly and stirred his hot chocolate with the slightly too short spoon. “So”, he said, glancing up at him through long lashes, “what kind of music do you like?”
Lucas shrugged. He hated that question, the answers were too many. “Old rock, I suppose”, he said, “like, the Clash, Nirvana?”
“Ah”, Eliott nodded, a smirk playing on his lips, “old school. Didn’t expect that.”
“What did you expect?” Lucas pressed, leaning forwards, elbows resting on the table.
Eliott pretended not to notice. “Maybe modern house music? EDM?”
“Well, it’s not bad, but maybe not what I’d put on if I got to choose.”
“Interesting. I’ll remember that.”
Lucas smiled softly. “What about you?”
“You wouldn’t know it.”
“Try me.”
“Dubstep, mostly.”
Lucas pouted. Okay, alright. Maybe not the answer he expected but he could work with it. Life wasn’t ruined because Eliott had the worst taste of music in the world, he could fix this. He could teach him.
I mean, Lucas thought, if he was going to die he might as well die with a good taste of music.
“You don’t look impressed”, Eliott grinned at Lucas laughed shortly.
“I mean, we could work with it.”
“Aha, work with it? You think it’s bad?”
“No, no, maybe I’ve just heard the wrong kind? Maybe you need to teach me.”
Eliott’s grin turned into a smirk and he tilted his head slightly, “I can teach you a lot of things.”
Lucas was just about to joke his comment away when his eyes dropped to his lips and his throat went dry. Eliott had his lips slightly parted, and his tongue darted out to wet his lower lip. Lucas swallowed thickly.
“Okay”, he got out.
Eliott chuckled. “Maybe that’s the wrong line to say in the middle of empty field? Wouldn’t want you to think I’m weird.”
“Too late for that”, Lucas told him, “I thought you were gonna kill me the moment we left central Paris.”
“That would be suspicious”, Eliott pointed out, “traffic cams would have seen us together. I’d get caught too quickly.” He winked at him.
Lucas rolled his eyes, “fair enough. I’ll put criminal mastermind on the list of your personality traits.”
“You got a list?”
“I do now.”
“Touché”, Eliott laughed at him. “How’s everyone, by the way?”
“Everyone?” Lucas suspected he knew what Eliott meant, but he asked anyways.
“Yeah, like Manon, Yann, Basile? What’s her name… Daphné?”
“They’re good! They’re good. Yann, Basile and Manon was at the bar with us, uh, with me I mean. You could’ve said hi.”
Eliott nodded. “I know, I was going to. But then I saw you.”
“You recognized me?”
Eliot hesitated shortly, but long enough for Lucas to notice. “Maybe I wouldn’t have if you didn’t like that video of me.”
Lucas groaned loudly, happy his hair was long enough to cover his red ears. “Can we not?”
“Why were you looking me up?” He didn’t sound accusing, his tone was genuinely interested.
“I wasn’t”, Lucas stared down what was left of his hot chocolate. “You showed up on my recommended-feed.”
“Oh.” Eliott sounded disappointed.
“Yeah.”
For the first time in the almost two hours they had been sitting there just talking, the silence felt thick. Lucas was sure Eliott knew he was lying.
“Well, do you wanna leave?”
“Do you?”
Eliott rolled his eyes. “Come on, let’s take a walk?”
Lucas followed him out through the empty stable. The sun was still standing high, the cloud free sky showing him what a real summer day should look like. The air around them was cool enough for a slight shiver to run down his spine as Eliott pushed the door open and let Lucas walk past him.
They walked in silence for a while, taking the long way around the barn. It was beautiful; calm, and Lucas could absolutely imagine putting a house up on the fields and live there for the rest of his life. Trying not to get lost in his own wishes, he tried to come up with something to say but everything he thought of sounded dumb in his head.
It was hard to concentrate when his inner angel and demon were having a full on fight, one of them trying to remind him of that he needed to kill this guy or he’d probably get in trouble himself, and the other one responding with but we like him! which wasn’t even an argument so why that side was winning, Lucas had no fucking clue.
His phone started to buzz in his pocket. “Sorry”, he mumbled, but he knew he had to take the call when he saw Manon’s name on the screen. “Yeah, hi.”
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
Lucas pressed his lips together. Okay, what did he do now? “I don’t know, you tell me?”
“You’re on a date, with Eliott?”
“Yes?” Lucas pressed his phone closer to his ear to stop the sounds from slipping out. He had a feeling Eliott wasn’t supposed to hear this conversation. “Or I don’t know what it is, it’s something?”
“Do you realise what deep shit you’re putting yourself in? Lucas, I can’t save you when this goes to hell.”
“I’m not asking you to do that”, Lucas said calmly.
“Yes, you are! I know I’m not supposed to say this but-”
“Manon”, Lucas warned, not wanting his friend to get into trouble, “I got this.”
“Non! Lucas, listen. They’re gonna give you two weeks, okay? Don’t fuck this up. I can’t lose you.”
Lucas clenched his jaw. “I got this, just trust me, okay?”
He could practically hear hear nodding on the other end. “Alright. I’m sorry, I just got the news so I just wanted to make sure. You know things get ugly fast. You know what happened to Beatric.”
Yeah, he definitely did know what happened to his old friends. He would never forget. “Yeah. Thanks. I gotta go now, so…”
“Yeah. Bye, Lucas.”
Lucas put his phone back in his pocket, glancing up at Eliott. The taller boy was looking a little too intensely at the flowers on the ground, inspecting them like it was the most interesting thing he’d ever seen. Or pretending not to listen, Lucas guessed.
“Sorry, Manon got some family problems.”
Eliott nodded, “sure. Is it still Charles, or what was his name?”
Lucas snorted. “No, she dumped his ass a long time ago.”
“Good”, Eliott laughed lightheartedly, “so I was thinking…”
Lucas met his beautiful eyes. “Mhm?”
“I’m throwing a little get together on friday.” In two days, that was. “I would really like it if you came.”
“Really?” Lucas exclaimed, surprised.
“Yeah, why not? I mean, if you want of course.”
Lucas nodded before the rational side of him got a chance to respond. “Yeah, okay. Yes. Yes, I’ll come.”
A sweet smile grew on Eliott’s lips, “great!” he laughed happily, “I’ll text you the address. Come on, let me drive you home now.”
-
Lucas knew she was in his apartment. The stench of the familiar flower perfume he hated tickled his nose the second he walked through the door to the apartment building, and the black, beautiful limousine was parked outside. Eliott commented it, but Lucas quickly waved it away. ‘
His stomach turned in on itself as he walked up the stairs and he had to remind himself that if they were here to kill him, he’d be dead already. And he would definitely not be able to smell her fucking perfume everywhere, that would give away the element of surprise.
Her high heels were standing outside his apartment, the door slightly open. Lucas pressed his lips together hard, letting a shaky breath pass his lips. He always found confronting his boss’ closest in command absolutely terrifying.
She was sitting in his couch, facing the other way. Blonde curls fell down her back and a cigarette was lit in her left hand.
“You can’t smoke in here”, Lucas said as a greeting, hanging his jacket on the hook in his hallway without taking his eyes off the woman.
“I know”, she responded, tone light. “But we don’t care so much about rules, do we, Lallemant?”
Lucas clenched his jaw and folded his arms across his chest. “What are you saying?”
“Nothing”, she shrugged, still not turning to face him, “but I know I’d be very careful with rule-breaking if I had a job like yours.”
“I haven’t broken any rules.”
She tilted her head. The air felt thick and Lucas found it hard to swallow. His whole body was responding, telling him to flee the threat in front of him, but he knew he couldn’t.
“Perhaps not”, she sighed, “I can’t prove anything.” A short pause, then she added, “yet.”
“Are you referring to my client?” His target, his goal, his Eliott.
“Perhaps”, she said again, “but I’m not here to give you a lecture on rules, Lallemant. That’s not my job.”
She finally rose from the couch, turning around to face him. Her body was swept in a beautiful, white fur coat and her slim face was covered in layers of makeup.
“So what do you want?” Lucas asked her. He took a few, unsure steps towards her.
“I’m here to update you on your contract.”
“I don’t want to change client”, Lucas got out quickly. Way too quickly.
She snorted softly. “I said update, not change. A bird whispered in my ear that you got two weeks to finish your contract, that’s all.”
“You could have sent me a letter”, Lucas spit out. He was not a fan of the mocking tone she was using against him. She might be higher in ranking than him, but he was still one of the best assassins in their league, and just because pills were most efficient to use didn’t mean he didn’t know how to use weapons. He could get to the kitchen in two seconds and have a knife in his hand in three.
“You’re right. I guess there was one more thing”, she didn’t scare by Lucas’ threatening tone. Instead, she carelessly walked past him to grab her heels from outside, bending over to put them on.
Maybe that worked on others, Lucas thought, but the only thing he could find distracting in that moment was Eliott.
“If I find out you are breaking any rules, Lallemant”, she warned, voice dangerously low, “you’re not the only one who’s in big trouble.”
“I’m not breaking any rules”, Lucas almost growled out, meeting her steady gaze. “You won’t find any dirt on me.”
She shrugged, a short, high pitched laugh slipping through her lips. “I hope so, for your sake. Have a nice evening. I hope we see each other soon.”
“I don’t”, Lucas mumbled and her light laugh echoed together with her heels down the stairs. Lucas didn’t dare to move until he heard her slamming the door to the beautiful, black limousine outside.
As the sound of the screeching wheels died out, Lucas let out a shaky breath, slowly sinking down against the wall. He wasn’t sure why he was so close to tears.

Dear Yuletide Author
Thanks for writing for me! I’ve probably written too much here, so...when in doubt, write the story you want to write, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it! The below are more guidelines than actual rules.
GENERAL
Likes:
Fictional characters in pain (physical, mental, other).
Complicated dynamics between characters (friends, enemies, strangers, all of the above, other). Bonus points for enemies-to-friends/friends-to-enemies/enemies-to-lovers/any movement on the friendship-ally-enmity axis, really.
Betrayals, pseudo-betrayals, etc (see above about complicated dynamics). Bonus points for betrayals made out of necessity. Double bonus points if the betrayed doesn’t know it’s necessary.
Villain-by-necessity or antagonist-by-necessity.
Exploration of power (individual, interpersonal, or both. Again, can be as dark as you want, if you are so inclined.)
Ambiguity, in pretty much all its forms.
Dark fic. You don't have to, but you absolutely 100% can. This is a blank cheque on content warnings, up to and including the major archive warnings.
Plot! You absolutely do not have to write a complex plot, but if that's your thing...go wild. Political machinations or detailed worldbuilding or some absurdly complicated scheme or that sequel you wish were written.
Fic formats I am very happy with, if they’re your thing: fic-as-character-study, theme-and-variation (so 5 times fics are 100% cool with me), or unconventional fic formats of any kind! But more conventional or linear formats are also A+. This is another ‘blanket permission to do whatever you want’
Dislikes/DNW:
Explicit sex, unless it’s absolutely essential to the story (if it IS absolutely essential: fade-to-black is fine, lightly explicit but not quite porn is usually fine. If I’m going to read sex I’d actually prefer it to be a bit darker in some way - definitely doesn’t have to be related to consent, though it certainly can, but I’d prefer there to be some tension/pain/angst/tragedy/betrayal/darkness/power dynamics to it.y)
Romance as the central focus of the story (partial exceptions include enemies-to-lovers or ‘complicated character dynamics’).
Children (child characters or characters having children).
Alternate setting AUs (like Hogwarts AU or Modern AU or A/B/O, etc. AU that alters canon events - eg ‘X doesn’t die’ or ‘Y happens differently’ is completely fine).
Fluff (humour is fine; sweetness is fine in moderation).
FANDOM-SPECIFIC
His Dark Materials - Marisa Coulter, Lord Asriel
HDM was very much a Formative Fantasy Series for me, and these two were defintely my uh...Formative Fucked-Up Pairing. Enemies, lovers, partners in damnation: they have it all, and they move fluidly between all of those. Individually, they’re some of my favourite characters in the genre: forces to be reckoned with, powerful and capable and driven, terrifying, and somehow still human.
Together, their dynamic is…everything I want in a story. It’s a mess, but it’s a devastatingly beautiful and functionally destructive mess that has the capacity to take down heaven and earth.I love their complexity, both individually and together, and I just want more of it.
“I wanted you to come with me, and I thought you would prefer a lie” has always been my favourite line for these two, if that helps. But really anything about their fucked-up contradictory mess of a series of betrayals and antagonistic workings that somehow form a relationship.
Feel free to include any other characters (nominated or otherwise) you see fit, but I would prefer the focus to be on these two (though if you think an outsider viewpoint, for instance, is the best way to do that, I have no complaints).
As a point of clarification, because romance is loosely on my DNW list: There’s definitely an aspect of Marisa/Asriel that could be called romance, and I have no objections to you exploring that in the context of the rest of their clusterfuck of a dynamic (but it’s the clusterfuck I love the most).
The Baru Cormorant / Masquerade Series - Svirakir
I have this bad habit of loving minor characters, but was rather delighted to see Apparitor not only get some screen time but even get a name in the second book. So I just want...more about him. He was hardly in the first book but was very present on the sidelines, once you know what to look for: what was he up to? What does that look like from his side of things? What did he think of Baru then? What’s his origin story, from his perspective, beyond the brief pieces of it we hear? What other tasks has he carried out in his role as Apparitor? Where has he travelled? Where does he want to go? What’s his great secret, his true aim? What was his first mission, or what would his version of a book-one-esque beginning look like?
Any of the above, none of the above...I’m being frustratingly nonspecific here, but I really will be happy with mostly anything. He’s a good candidate for fic-as-character-study, if that’s your thing. Or if you’re a plotty sort and want to write him and the others carrying out some absurd heist, I’d be 100% here for it. Or if, like me, you enjoy some good old-fashioned whump and just want to rough him up a bit...yeah, he’s the sort whom suffering looks good on.
Really, knock yourself out. Include any and all other characters from the series as you see fit, or don’t.
The Dragon Prince - Aaravos, Runaan
I feel like I should maybe apologise for this one, especially because it’s a children’s show and yet my immediate thought on this one is ‘if dark is your thing, go dark here’. If dark isn’t your thing that’s absolutely fine, of course, but if it is...yeah. Have fun. Go wild.
I’m happy to read either of these characters individually, if featuring both of them doesn’t work with what you come up with, but if you do feel like including both, that would be excellent. Maybe they meet somehow -- do the coins and the mirror lead to the same place, and they’re both trapped and meet as uneasy allies? Or as enemies? Or as friends? Or perhaps they’re both trapped and completely separate and never actually meet but their experiences run either parallel or opposite. How did they each get to where they are? What happens to those who are shut away from the real world? Any or none of the above, really.
I’m just super curious to see what is even happening with either or both of these two. Trapped and powerful and mirrored and mysterious...it’s a whole lot, for me, however you decide to slice it, and the world that’s been built is still an open playing field, so have fun!
If it helps, my favourite moments of these two individually are:
Aaravos - when he responds, in that voice of his, to Viren asking ‘why should I trust you’ with ‘You shouldn’t. Yet.’
Runaan - that first shot we see of him chained to a wall.
I know. I’m sorry.
Oh, also, I know Season 3 is meant to come out before Yuletide fics are due; include or ignore any content from that as you wish.
Machineries of Empire - Vauhan Mikodez
This whole series is really just designed to ruin me, full as it is of characters who are all My Type in different ways.
So first of all, feel free to include any other characters from the series you see fit. Personal favourite candidates include Kujen, Jedao (either version but mostly the first), Cheris, Istradez, Zehun, any of the other Hexarchs/Heptarchs including Faian, any of Kujen’s anchors...the list continues.
Mikodez is fascinating to me because of the contrast in...not quite how he presents himself versus who he actually is, but in how he fully embodies the persona his role demands -- the murdering, amoral, ruthless, scheming, pragmatic Shuos Hexarch -- and yet also manages to be one of the more morally grounded characters in the series. He just doesn’t let anyone (often including himself) see that. So he ends up perceived as having taken a similar path to, say Kujen in terms of murdering his own conscience, stifling his ability to feel pain or empathy in order to become what he must, but he hasn’t. He just follows that path as far as making it clear, to himself and everyone else, that those feelings are a privilege the Shuos Hexarch cannot afford; but he feels them anyway, as himself, and it’s just a whole Problem for me.
And so the way he interacts with other characters, especially those like Jedao and Kujen, is rather fascinating to me. But so is his relationship with Istradez, because again, based on how he presents himself, you wouldn’t really expect Mikodez to be generous and understanding, but he so very much is.
Mikodez is another great option for fic-as-character-study if you want to go that route, or just go all-out and throw him in way over his head, or let him watch from the shadows, the longest-serving Shuos Hexarch, as everything else plays out. Apologies for not really giving much in the way of prompts here, but I’m pretty much game for anything, and I’m super curious to see what you might come up with.
Sunshine - Robin McKinley (any - Charlie, Rae, Onyx, Con, Mel, Rae’s grandmother)
Knock yourself out. Go wild. Pick any one of the 189237 loose ends this book left and run with it.
Who the hell even was (is?) Onyx Blaise? Actually, if you feel up to it, anything involving Onyx and his mother (Rae’s grandmother) would be fascinating to me. Or, throw Mel and Con and Rae together in some mess they have to work together to solve. Or just give me Mel’s backstory. Or Con’s. Did Con and Onyx meet, and what was that like? What does Rae’s life look like after the book ends?
If you have an idea for this world, for any or all of these characters, write that. I will read anything, because there’s just so much there to play with.

hey it’s @transrobro ‘s birthday today! happy birthday jay!!!
i thought it was only appropriate to take two of their favorite things and mash them together: rvb and rwby! actually this is based on an au jay came up with, i just expanded a few details for this fic. even so i hope you enjoy!
now for the sappy part: jay not a day goes by that im not happy i started talking to you more. youve been such a wonderful presence in my life and someone i am just always made better by knowing. and this year youve done a lot to stand up for yourself and take care of yourself and i am SO proud of you for that! i hope you have a great birthday today because you have absolutely earned it
The metals doors slide open and Alaska steps into the briefing room, the white of her armor tinged in glittery blue from the holographic projections. She steps up to her appropriate spot at the edge of the table, not quite interrupting the Director and everyone he’s gathered. Her stance is stiff and formal.
“Agent Alaska reporting for duty, sir.” She holds her posture as a few other Freelancers on the other side of the table glance up at her.
She thought she’d be the first one here, but obviously she’d been beaten. If she wasn’t at attention, she’d go stand with Michigan and her red-and-gold armor. Already gathered as well are Arkansas and Oklahoma, but you always see their green and pink together. There’s also BM and Vermont, and she thinks she even sees Hawaii in the corner.
“Ah, Alaska,” The Director drawls, “Good timing. We were just about to begin. You wouldn’t want to be late for your own mission briefing.”
“Of course not,” Alaska agrees. She can almost feel Hawaii rolling her eyes.
“Very good. In that case, let’s begin.” He pulls up the holographic image of some kind of alien ruin. “You’ll be recovering some artifacts from this crash site. Since they require simultaneous extraction, I’m sending two teams.”
He spins the image and highlights something in one of the lower sections. “Agent Alabama and Agent Hawaii--” He nods and the two of them step forward, “You’ll be recovering the first artifact.”
“No problem,” BM drawls. Hawaii nods in agreement.
“Meanwhile, Alaska.” He moves the hologram to highlight a spot at the top of a spire. Of course she’s always sent on the missions with heights. “You’ll be working with...”
Michigan, she internally begs. Michigan’s never dropped below second place, when she even drops below first. Either Okhlahoma or Arkansas would be fine two, they’re both skilled. Vermont’s pretty sweet and shy, but good in the field, so she’d take her. Or even Tenessse, despite her dramatic flair, is hell with a gatling.  As long as it’s not Rhode Island and his stupid crush. Or worse yet...
“Sorry I’m late! There was, um, kind of a problem with the lockers, and--” Oh no.
“Agent Oregon,” The Director nearly sneers. “Do try to arrive on time from now on. I’d nearly changed my mind about assigning you to this mission.” Oh no. “You’re working with Agent Alaska. She’ll catch you up on the details.”
Alaska looks over at her partner. Oregon -- or RG, rather, just like her sister -- has her helmet off and slung lazily in the crook of her arm. It’s as obnoxiously red as the rest of her armor, which honestly makes her look like one of the sim soldiers. And, the worst thing is, RG is beaming at her.
“Oooh, I’ve always wanted to work with you,” RG says. Alaska braces herself. It’s not the first time people have fawned over her. She joined Project Freelancer to get away from her name, but it turns out a Schnee is still a Schnee, no matter what she goes.
“Your armor’s ability is so cool and versatile and I have so many combination ideas,” RG is practically bouncing, “And you give great reports.”
Wait, what?
“Depends on your definition of great,” BM mumbles as she passes, patting RG on the back and nearly knocking her over. Which nearly knocks her into Alaska. She hurriedly shoves RG off of her and dusts herself off.
“Let’s get going,” Alaska simply says and turns on her heels.
-
While technically the mission was a success, Alaska’s not satisfied with it. Her own performance didn’t so much as nudge her score. No doubt because she was spending most of the mission bickering with her partner. If it hadn’t been for her suit’s enhancements, RG would’ve never made it up the side of the building.
Green flickers in the corner of her vision. “I believe you’re overthinking this, Agent Alaska,” Omicron says.
“I’m not overthinking this,” She snaps, “I’m thinking about this a perfectly reasonable amount. I--”
“Ooh, is that your AI?”
Alaska’s head snaps up as RG approaches her. Alaska closes her locker and glares. Omicron clears his throat in amusement and then flickers away before she can glare. It doesn’t matter, because her eyes catch on RG pulling off her helmet. In the light of the briefing room she didn’t see how RG’S short black hair is tipped with red that can’t be natural, or how she has striking silver eyes that almost look through her. Alaska swallows thickly.
“Yes,” She replies stiffly.
“That’s cool. I’ve got Psi here.” An AI flickers into place next to RG, faintly hazel in color. He waves to Alaska, who frowns.
“Wait, you already have an AI?”
“Yeah, I guess?” RG rubs the back of her neck. “The Director thought I was ready.”
“I thought you just joined the program,” Alaska says through grit teeth, “And you already have an AI? There’s no way you’ve earned that.”
“Whoa, hey,” RG narrows her eyes, “What’s with you? I just wanted to talk to you because I wanted to find someone else who understood. I mean, Michigan’s got... Epsilon, right?”
“Kappa.”
“--Right, and Hawaii and my sister are up soon, but...”
“You think I want to talk to you?” Alaska can see Psi getting nervous, and Omicron activating to try and calm her, but she ignores them. “After your stunt on the mission?”
“Hey, that worked out! We were fine!”
“No thanks to you!” A part of her knows that isn’t entirely true, but she doesn’t want to admit it. “You’ve been trying to aggravate me all day! Ever since you mocked my reports--”
“I wasn’t mocking you,” RG interrupts her, now deadly sincere. “I actually meant what I said? I like your reports.”
Alaska stares. “What?”
“You put more detail into them than anyone else.” RG rocks back on her heels and shrugs. “Yeah, they’re really long, but some of the stuff you include is really useful. Like the other week I read your report on the Chorus mission, and you were the only one who included the exact model of vehicle that Hawaii caught. Sooo I could look it up and calculate the tensile strength on that ribbon-gun she likes, so I could give suggestions for that combo move she uses with BM!”
“The one they use all the time?” Alaska blinks at her. “You came up with that?”
“Yeah.”
“And you figured it out because of my notes?”
“Yeah!”
Nobody’s ever complimented her on that before. Not genuinely. Everyone thinks she’s pretentious and too focused on her rank, but she just wants to be thorough. And here’s this newbie prodigy telling her how good they are. Something bubbles in her chest, but Alaska can’t put a name to it.
“Maybe I’ve misjudged you,” She admits slowly. “Would you... like to spar sometime? I could give you feedback on your form, or something like that.”
The smile slowly spreads across RG’s face. “I’d really like that.”

Anyway, the rest of that is a story for another time. Too bad, I know.
Instead, let me paint you a picture: it’s late afternoon and yet the moon rises high over the walls of the gulch. Alaska goes off on patrol, but so little happens in this box canyon that she’s really just using the excuse to get away from BM and Hawaii being obnoxious and obvious back at Red base.
She goes up along one of the cliff trails that run along the sides of the gulch. This one leads to a nice vantage point of Blue Base, which is a great strategic advantage for no purpose. They’re only play fighting with Rhode and the rest of Blue Team. Really, it’s just a nice spot for some peace and quiet.
Except that RG’s already beaten Alaska there. RG sits at the edge of the overlook with her feet swinging off the edge, her sniper rifle laid neatly beside her.
Alaska hesitates for a moment. RG glances back and notices her, then simply scoots to the side a little bit. Alaska takes the invitation and sits carefully beside RG, her own knees tucked closer to her chest.
“Do you ever wonder why we’re here?” RG asks.
“I was going to ask you why you were out here,” Alaska counters.
“That’s not what I meant!” “What did you mean?”
“I mean, why are we here in this random canyon?”
Alaska frowns behind her helmet. “I thought... random was the point?”
“Mmmm. I guess so.” RG leans back and tilts her head up to the sky. “This place is kind of nice at night.”
“Do you... come out here a lot at night?”
“Sometimes. Sometimes it’s nice to stargaze. Even though I don’t recognize any of the constellations here.”
“I could teach you sometime.”
RG looks over at her. “What?”
“My sister taught me the constellations. Even ones in the far reaches of the galaxy, like here.” Alaska looks up at the sky, purposefully not looking directly at RG. “I could show you, sometime.”
“I’d really like that, Alaska.”
“You can thank me for it later.”
They say later, but they stay until the sun sets. In the darkness, nobody will see if their hands overlap.
