Syo-kun sang a cute pop song with all his might.

To be honest, I think he wanted to sing a cooler sounding song.

He suggested that I should make a song that takes advantage of his appearance and voice.

The things you want to do and what you are actually good at are different.

He said that if he was going to compete, he should try to meet everyone's expectations.

That's why the song he's singing is very much like him.

It's cute, but at the same time, stylish.

Female Student A: What's this? It's such a cute song, but I'm starting to cry.

The person who gets the most points overall gets first place, becomes a new idol in the Shining Agency, then aims to become the top idol.

For the students who don't win first place, anyone that gets more than 85 points can still join the Shining Agency.

Furthermore, there are people from other agencies that come to watch our audition….

Even if we don't get into the Shining Agency, there's a chance that another agency would ask us to join them.

But I'm sure that Syo-kun wouldn't be satisfied unless he's number 1….

Syo-kun shined so brightly just now, so I'm sure it'll be fine. We can win….

Ryuya Hyuga: We’re ready to announce the results… The winner of this year's graduation audition is Syo Kurusu!

When his name is called, Syo makes a wide grin and lets go of my hand.

He takes in a deep breath and slowly walks to the center of the stage.

Syo takes the trophy into his hands with utmost confidence that it's what he’s deserved all along.

Ryuya Hyuga: You've really grown, kid. You're not the kid that needs to be protected by somebody. You're a grown man who can protect someone with that strong back of yours.

When Hyuga-sensei makes a satisfied grin, tears well up in Syo-kun's eyes.

He must be feeling emotional from being praised by his hero he looks up to.

Shining Saotome: Once your body becomes healthy, you'll be perfect! Get properly cured, you hear?

Syo Kurusu: Roger!

After that, we immediately go to the classroom that has been designated as a break room.

Syo Kurusu: … Haa, haa, haa…. Damn it, this needs to calm down…. Ha, haa, haa, haa….

Syo-kun's heart is at its limit. He didn't stop smiling on stage, but he must've been in extreme pain.

Natsuki Is So Much More Than His Ditzy Behavior: Part 4

A recurring... theory? Idea? Idea! That comes up whenever Natsuki (and Satsuki) is concerned is that the trigger for Satsuki's appearance is Natsuki's glasses being taken off in some way.

THIS IS NOT TRUE.

The true trigger for Satsuki's appearance, despite what the other characters (and basically everyone following UtaPri) think, is Natsuki being in danger. This is actually in line with real life accounts of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), aka what people used to call Split Personality Disorder or Multiple Personality Disorder, aka what the first season of the anime and the song オリオンでSHOUT OUT calls "Gemini Syndrome."

This part will have two sub-parts, each with a scene that demonstrates the trigger condition. Before this point in Natsuki's route in Repeat/Repeat LOVE, however, we are aware that Satsuki can manifest as a dark aura around Natsuki — this has happened in May, when he went toe-to-toe against Shining Saotome; and in July, when his glasses were knocked off in a game of water polo at the school pool.

The first sub-part comes in October, when Natsuki brings MC-chan to the school roof so they could watch the school festival fireworks together.

Note: The default name 七海春歌 (Nanami Haruka) will be used for the main character. I transcribed the Japanese manually from the Switch port, but I’m only human. All translations are my own.

Natsuki first removed his glasses on his own. It was only when MC-chan pushed him away that Satsuki took over (after having experienced perceived rejection). The glasses breaking didn't do anything, as the next chapter establishes that fixing the glasses and putting them back onto him didn't make Natsuki take over again.

Natsuki and Satsuki also speak differently — the former uses polite language, the non-threatening 僕 boku, and the more formal あなた anata; while the latter speaks more roughly and uses the assertive 俺 ore/the informal お前 omae. I tried to slip some of this by making Satsuki say "ain't," but it doesn't come across as clearly in English.

It's interesting that Satsuki appeared here. Of course, one could make the argument that Satsuki's "in charge" when Natsuki is sleeping, but you have to remember: you're defenseless when you're asleep.

Besides, a previous conversation with Syo and Natsuki (see Part 2) indicates Natsuki's memories of that time were a blur, implying a degree of dissociative amnesia from Satsuki taking the figurative wheel of their system (which is also shown in the anime).

I have gone on at length that Makoto is a Rabbit, a prey animal seen as timid and not very dangerous, but when cornered can actually be pretty damn fierce, he also has been noted to hop when he's excited by Kirigiri.

Hifumi is a hyena, this does not make sense unless you know a lot of about hyena dominance, if you do, then this becomes very obvious

Yasuhiro is an ostrich, eye bigger then his goddamn brain, panicky and if not handled correctly, potentially dangerous

Togami is that one goldfish that accessed a streamers credit card and did fraud, okay more seriously he's a parrot, loud, curious, repeats things you dont want repeated, and lives way longer then you think he should

Chihiro is a ferret, small and cute but endlessly curious and more dangerous then you'd expect

Kirigiri is a raven, wickedly smart with a lot of mystery and symbolism around death

Aoi is a seal, seen as happy and silly but still capable of fucking you up if you forget she's still a wild animal, if we want to get specific the Essex Common Seal turns orange

Sakura is an elephant, big and powerful, deeply kind, but capable of intense damage and vengeance if you wrong her

Junko is a cuckoo, mimicking something harmless to cause immense damage

Mukuro is a sparrowhawk, some adult cuckoos pretend to be sparrowhawks to help with their brood parasitism

Leon is a red-headed woodpecker, LOUD and causing structural damage as we speak

Sayaka is a shrike, a songbird known for stabbing prey on branches and barbed wire

A week later

Kira Carsen stifled her millionth yawn of the day as the Council talked. Her Master held the floor, looking as drop-dead gorgeous as she always did. Kira wondered if, in another life, Bela Kiwiiks could have been a popular actress. Or singer. She could just picture it, the Togruta crooning ‘Deliverance by the Rain’ at a live performance while thousands cheered.

But right now, even her stunning looks and refined demeanour did not save the utterly dull drivel she was presenting before the Council, something about movement of illicit goods on the streets of Coruscant.

Stars, how she wished she could sit the fuck down! Why weren’t there seats in the wings for observers and unlucky on-duty Padawans? She looked around the Council. It was another poor showing today, less than half-strength. The holo of the cantankerous Master Kaedan sat on Master Satele’s left, listening to every word despite his disposition. The man could listen, despite outward appearances. On her right was Master Kiwiiks’ empty seat, and beyond that was Master Syo Bakarn, and Master Gnost Dural after him. On Kaedan’s left was Master Orgus, who was deeply frustrated, going by his bouncing right knee. Master Braga sat next to him, radiating serenity and confidence into this room despite also being transmitting from afar.

Kira yawned yet again and sighed before turning her attention to the alien beside her. The hero of the hour. She’d heard the stories already circulating about him, and was secretly impressed that one Padawan could win such a big battle on his own.

Not a Padawan, she reminded herself. Not yet.

His apprenticeship had been delayed by recent events. Several of his prospective Masters had been killed or wounded, while others were called away to fight the Raiders.

But despite his achievement, he was just a kid. Kira had some difficulty taking him seriously, especially the way he was holding himself right now. He stood rigid and tall, like he was on display somewhere. He fought hard to keep the nerves from showing, but his fingers fidgeted with his clothes and his Lightsabers. His foot tapped up a more nervous rhythm than Master Orgus, and his eyes kept darting from the Masters to the door.

“Psst!” Kira whispered. “Hey. Kid. You alright?”

He looked at her with wide eyes, unsure of himself.

“It’s okay,” she assured him. “They don’t mind, if we’re soft.”

He hesitated a moment longer, then nodded nervously. Good boy!

“So, how are you doing?” she repeated.

“I’m fine,” he replied. “What about you?”

“Haven’t nodded off yet. Please catch me if you see me fall asleep. Last time was a little embarrassing. I fell with a loud scream. Challenged an imaginary enemy to a duel."

He stared for a moment, then burst into suppressed laughter. “I promise.”

“Thanks,” Kira smiled. “My name is Kira. Kira Carsen. I’m Master Kiwiiks’ apprentice. I’m secretly evil.”

He suppressed a giggle. “I’m Vajra. I was Uupa WenSuul’s. But she passed on two weeks ago.”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” Kira answered.

“She was unwell for a long time,” Vajra said. “Unable to even leave her bed. Most of my lessons the past year were inside her cottage. But I miss her.”

“Good. I don’t have respect for people who don’t miss the ones who raise them.”

Vajra nodded.

Info: I could watch the Special thanks to a sweet friend and I loved it so much! It was sooo good! I got so inspired by one specific scene with Syo that I just had to write a Shortcakes story based on it… 👉🏻👈🏻

One beautiful, sunny day…

“Babe? Was it really a good idea to bring me with you on your guys’ vacation?”

Syo and the rest of STARISH got a more than deserved vacation as a reward for working so hard. They chose to go glamping…and my husband decided to bring me along. The trip to our destination was very eventful, if I may say so myself. From funny stories and many pictures to looking for two lost children’s parents. (Don’t worry, the story has a good ending!) We arrived here a little bit ago, though, and now I was watching Syo preparing some firewood for a campfire later in the evening. My blonde man swung the axe and split another log before wiping his forehead with his hand. He turned to me with a smile.

“Of course, it was a good idea! The guys were very excited to have you here! Besides, you ARE a part of STARISH in your own way! You deserved a vacation after you’ve worked so hard, too.”, he answered.

I shook my head, amused, but couldn’t keep a light chuckle in. Syo came over to me where I was sitting on a bunch of other wooden logs. I knew what he wanted, we had been doing that for a while on repeat after all, so I took a few of them and then placed them in my husband’s arms. He leaned down to kiss my cheek.

“My utmost thanks, my Princess~!”

“Hihi! You’re very welcome, my Prince~!”

Syo went back to his previous place and continued with his work. There wasn’t much I could do with my condition but at least I could help my husband a little with his task. And later, I knew that I got put in charge of preparing some side dishes for our dinner. Syo told me that it was quickly decided that I would be on “kitchen duty”, when it was sure that I’d come with them.

“They love your food, Princess, and so do I!”, he told me.

It warmed my heart that they liked my cooking so much. But the most important compliments for me always came from Syo.

I watched on as my blonde husband split log after log and my eyes slowly wandered to his exposed muscular biceps. Years of training and working out really showed here. I knew that I won’t ever get used to this sight.

*He is so strong and handsome…and MY husband…woah…*

Suddenly, I felt like someone was watching me. I turned my head and saw Ren, who was lying in a hammock not too far from us, looking at me.

*Seriously?! I thought he was asleep?!*

Ren’s lips formed into a sly smile, then he looked at Syo and back at me again while wiggling his eyebrows. My light blue eyes widened in shock and embarrassment. I got caught red-handed! I felt my cheeks flush into probably the deepest red known to humanity and hid my face in my hands. The metal of my wedding ring felt cold against my heavily heated skin. I could almost hear Ren’s teasing chuckle ringing in my ears.

*Please, God, make the earth swallow me whole…*

“Princess? Are you okay?”, I heard Syo ask.

I slowly looked up and saw Syo as he just crouched down to my eye level. There was a worried glint in his blue eyes. I nodded my head.

“Y-yes, I’m fine! Uh, I think it’s the heat! It’s pretty hot today, y’know?”, I answered quickly.

My husband took one of his protective gloves off and gently touched my red cheeks and then my forehead. I relaxed a little under his cool touch.

“Yeah, you’re pretty flushed. Do you wanna go inside? I know you’re very sensitive. I don’t want you to get a heat stroke or something...”

*Gosh, he’s so sweet. I don’t deserve him.*

“N-no, really! I’m fine! I’ll drink lots of water to stay cool! Don’t worry, babe!”

Syo nodded slightly, not fully convinced, and took something next to us. He put his purple hat onto my head. It fit me perfectly which put a warm feeling inside my chest.

“If you’re really sure. Just, please keep the hat on for the rest of the time you’re outside, okay? And if you’re starting to feel sick or dizzy, please tell me, Princess! Promise?”

I smiled at my husband. Always looking out for me since we met all those years ago. I was truly grateful.

“Promise.”, I said.

Syo nodded again and kissed my forehead before he took a few more logs and went back to work. I turned towards Ren again but his eyes were closed. I knew from that lingering smile on his face that he wasn’t really asleep, though. I shook my head. Even though he teased me or us both greatly, I also knew how big of a supporter he is of Syo and I. We could always count on him. I was really thankful for that.

*Thank you for everything, Orange Rhapsody…*

Soon the rest of the logs were all split into smaller pieces. Ren was kind enough to take the first batch to the campfire site, but not before secretly winking at me for one last time.

Syo and I each picked up the remaining wood pieces with him carrying most of it. The way over to the campfire, well, soon to be campfire, was pretty nice. I loved camping. Syo and I had already done that a lot in the past. Even though glamping wasn’t exactly the same experience, I enjoyed myself.

After my husband and I reached the site, we put the split wood next to Ren’s batch. The ginger wasn’t anywhere near in sight. The wind suddenly picked up a little and I closed my eyes. I could smell the flowers and heard the birds nearby. It was so serene.

When I opened my eyes again, I saw my blonde man looking at me with a loving grin on his face. I blushed.

“I-is everything alright, babe?”, I asked curiously.

“Yes, everything’s okay. Sorry, just, you look really beautiful right now. You always do...”

Syo came closer and wrapped his arms around my waist. I put mine on his chest. My husband’s blue eyes looked even more gorgeous. I could lose myself in them every time.

“…And I’m glad that you’re enjoying yourself. You really look at peace here.”, Syo continued.

“That’s because I am! Thank you…”

“Of course, Princess! You’re very welcome.”

I looked down at my wrist watch to check the time. It was almost time for me to start cooking. Oh, how much I wished for that moment to never end.

“Well, soon it’s dinner time~! I have to check in with Masato before, though.”, I said to my husband.

“Ah, I can’t wait to eat your food again, Princess! It’s been like a whole DAY without it. Can you give me a little hint on what you’ll make…~?”

“Hm…well, ‘pasta salad with bacon’ is one part of it~!”

Syo’s eyes widened and a big grin appeared. Haha, bullseye.

“Omg, my favorite?! You’re the best wife ever, you know that!? I love you, Princess!”, he exclaimed before pressing his lips to mine.

I couldn’t help but to smile into the kiss. I was so happy that HE was happy. We stayed like this for a little while, neither of us wanted it to end.

After we broke the kiss, I heard rustling from nearby. Syo seemed to notice it, too. Before we even had the chance to look at what it was, a young redhead fell through the bush and landed only a few meters in front of us. Otoya. And after him came Cecil.

“What…? Were you guys spying on us?”, asked Syo pretty confused.

I was so embarrassed that I got caught AGAIN and just hid my face in my husband's chest. He wrapped his arms tighter around me.

“Well, Ren said we should give you a little privacy!”, answered Cecil.

*Ren?*

If you put emotions into that, it's easy to immerse yourself into the song.

If I remember correctly, something like beginning with a character's actions, or describing the place they're in, then describing the feelings of that character….

Natsuki Is So Much More Than His Ditzy Behavior: Part 2

In June of Natsuki's route in Repeat LOVE, Natsuki explains why he applied to the idol program at Saotome Gakuen despite being lauded as a genius violinist — and later violist — in his childhood.

The dialogue text is pretty long, so it'll go under the cut.

【来栖　翔】:「おかえり〜。じゃねぇよ、この天然スケコマシ！まったく、お前は昔から……」 【来栖　翔】:「あ…………。悪い……昔のことは、あんまり言わない方がよかったか……」 昔？ 【四ノ宮那月】:「ん？……昔って？」 【来栖　翔】:「だから……ほら、あれだよ、小学校ん時のさ……ヴァイオリンのコンクール、控え室……一緒だったろ、俺と……」 【来栖　翔】:「お前、ぼけっとしてて、自分の出番も忘れてて、でも、ステージに立ったら、女子にキャーキャー言われてさ……」 【来栖　翔】:「それから……その……。すごかった……。俺なんか絶対勝てないかっこいい演奏だった……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「んーーーーー？おかしいですねぇ。記憶にありません。確かにヴァイオリンもやっていましたが」 【四ノ宮那月】:「翔ちゃんと出会っていたら絶対覚えていると思うのに……。うーーん」 【来栖　翔】:「てんめぇ、俺なんか、眼中にねぇってことかよっ」 【四ノ宮那月】:「そ、そうじゃなくて……ごめん。あの頃の記憶ってすごく曖昧で……。だから……、自分でもよくわからなくて」 【来栖　翔】:「お前がヴァイオリンやめて、ヴィオラをやり始めたって聞いた時もショックだったけど……」 【来栖　翔】:「でも、お前のヴィオラを聴いて、悔しいけど、感動した。だから、それでもいいかって思った」 【来栖　翔】:「それなのに……。なんで……。なんでそれすらやめちゃったんだよ」 【四ノ宮那月】:「それは……。それは……僕が弱いから……」 【来栖　翔】:「え…………？」 【四ノ宮那月】:「ヴィオラはとても奥深くて……。どれだけ頑張っても自分で納得のいく音は出せなくて」 【四ノ宮那月】:「でも……みんなは僕の中途半端な音を褒めてくれて。それで十分だって……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「僕がどんなに違うって言っても、誰もわかってくれなくて……。誰も僕のしたい音を教えてはくれなかった」 【四ノ宮那月】:「答えのない道をただひたすらに進むのかとそう……思ったら、すごく怖くなったんだ。その道は果てしなく長くて、遠い……」 【来栖　翔】:「……那月……」 【四ノ宮那月】:「ホントいうとね。今も怖いんだ。アイドルが歌うのを見て、すごく楽しそうで、僕もあんな風に音を楽しめたらって」 【四ノ宮那月】:「そう思って、この学校を受験したんだ。でも……。歌にも正解なんかない。自分で作っていくしかないってって気がついた」 【四ノ宮那月】:「でも……。でもね……。今、僕はひとりじゃないから」 【四ノ宮那月】:「あなたが……。そして翔ちゃんがいてくれる。誰かがそばにいて、一緒に悩んでくれる」 【四ノ宮那月】:「それがすごく嬉しくて。頑張ろうって……。頑張れるって思ったんだ。今度は答えを見つけられそうな気がするから」

Syo: Like... You know, back when... we were in elementary school... At a violin competition. We were... in the same waiting room, you and me. Syo: You were spacing out and forgot your turn. But when you got on the stage, all the girls were screaming for you. Syo: And then... You... You were amazing. I thought I'd never win against your performance. Natsuki: Hmmmmmmm? That's weird. I don't remember. It's true I used to play the violin, though. Natsuki: But I'd totally remember if I met you back then. Bummer. Syo: So you didn't even pay attention to me, huh? Natsuki: That's— not what I meant... Sorry. My memories from back then were a blur... So... I don't really know myself. Syo: It was a shock to me when I found out you quit playing the violin and started playing the viola... Syo: But when I heard your viola, even though it was frustrating, I felt so moved by it. So I wondered if you were okay with that. Syo: But even then... Why... Why did you quit that too? Natsuki: That's... Because I'm weak... Syo: Huh......? Natsuki: There's so much to the viola... No matter how hard I worked, I couldn't play the way I wanted to. Natsuki: But... everyone praised my half-hearted playing. They said it was enough... Natsuki: No matter how much I said that wasn't it, no one understood me. No one could teach me how to play the way I wanted. Natsuki: When I... thought about continuing to devote myself to a path without a destination, I felt so scared. The path seems so long and endless... So far away... Syo: ... Natsuki... Natsuki: To tell the truth, I'm scared even now. When I saw idols singing and looking like they were having so much fun, I thought I could be like that too. Natsuki: That's what I thought, so I applied to this school. But... there's no right answer in this kind of music either. I've realized that I have to make it on my own. Natsuki: But... You know... I'm not alone anymore. Natsuki: 'Cause you're here... And Syo-chan, too. There's someone with me to think things through. Natsuki: It makes me so happy. When you say, "Let's do it together," I feel I can do it. Because this time, I can find the solution.

From the conversation, you can see kid!Natsuki felt lonely as a genius violinist, so he decided to move to the viola, but it didn't work either. It pained him to keep playing string instruments because things weren't working out for him.
