If you’re considering telling/asking an adopted person any of the following, or anything similar to such:
“You’re so lucky you weren’t aborted.”
“Aren’t you glad your mother didn’t abort you?”
“You should be grateful that you have a better life now.”
“Why would you want to know what your birth mother is like? You have a perfectly good life now.”
“It takes a very special person to want an orphan child.”
“How can you be pro-choice? You wouldn’t be here if your birth mother had been.”
May I make a small suggestion?
Don’t.

Shout out to all the non-binary folks whose native laguage is gendered.
Shout out to non-binary folks who cannot use their prefered prouns because there are no neutral pronouns in your laguage.
Shout out to all the non-binary folks that grew up in so heavily gendered society that it’s hard to view something as genderless or gender neutral, even your own identity.
I know how it feels, I know it’s hard to fight back something that you’ve been taught your whole life. It might be hard to battle these ideas, but just because society told you that your gender doesn’t exsist doesn’t mean it’s true. You are wonderful, you are valid and real, and I am so proud of you❤

I'm sure I'm not the first person to notice this but it IS super weird to see so many leftists
get told they're being rampantly antisemitic
fact check (which is a good instict!)
realize they've been hitting Antisemite Bingo with every post they make
...and instead of going "oh shit, I didn't realize it was that baked into all of society, I really need to listen to more Jews about this and do better not to perpetuate hatred towards them"
they go "well, I do all of this, and I'm a good person, so those filthy Jews Zionists must secretly control the media!"
It's especially weird when they know better than to do this to any other minority, but somehow when it's Jews it's acceptible as long as you call them Zionists before hate-criming them.
This is probably why the denial is so high, though. They HAVE to believe leftist antisemitism isn't a problem, because if they believe it's a problem then THEY are the problem, and that interferes with their mental image of themselves as Righteous Revolutionaries.

Wanted to share this find…a quiz book! I want to say it’s for younger kids because of how stupid easy all of the questions are but then it uses kanji without the readings written near it like you usually see so for later elementary?

I still remember the nurses who laughed at me after major spine surgery when I was walking around with my butt out because I didn't know to bring shorts to the hospital and wasn't allowed to double my gowns due to the incision location. I still remember the aid who told me that I smelled after days of being unable to move my limbs or get out of bed while sweating uncontrollably from spinal shock and agonizing pain. I sat and cried after that because I had overcome so much that hospital stay just to be dehumanized. Never did they ask if I wanted something to cover up or assistance bathing. Just laughed at me and joked with each other.
I also remember the nurse who checked on me extra during the night with a hospital stay in the middle of covid because they kicked my mom out and I have trauma about being in the hospital alone. She made extra visits to make sure I was okay just like she promised my mom. I remember the nurse who held my hand and called me honey as my limbs trashed and shook from spinal shock.
Basically being a good nurse and being a bad nurse to patients does stay with a person. It's been years and many other hospital stays since a lot of these instances and I still remember them clearly. I know nurses are burnt out, traumatized, and exhausted. Nurses deserve better treatment. But so do patients.

Jewish women are the number one authorities on how Jewish men wield misogyny. It is not an issue of our religion being regressive or misogynist, it is an issue of men using whatever culture / ideology etc they can get their hands on as a lens for their misogyny. The day I let a goyische feminist come trampling into my culture and my religion, spew their unnuanced interpretations that are devoid of context and understanding, tell me how oppressed I am, spread antisemitic hate speech, and talk over me on my own experiences, is the day I die. Jewish women must and will be the foundation of our revolutionary liberation from misogyny. Jewish women will be the voices speaking up about how men do us wrong within our own religion and cultures. Not you. Us. If you really want to help us, listen to us. You are not our mouthpieces or better interpreters of our lives than we are.

Hey I hope this is ok to ask! My partner is Native American (Mvskoke) and considering conversion. They are considering conversion but worry that joining the Jewish people would mean turning their back on the Mvskoke people and would override their peoplehood in the Mvskoke. I know you probably can't speak for the Mvskoke aspect, but would you happen to know of any Native American + Jewish bloggers or people who talk about this topic or any books? (esp those who have converted?) I asked my rabbi but he didn't have any ideas unfortunately.
Hi anon,
You are correct that I cannot personally speak from the Mvskoke side of things, or even from the POV of needing to integrate an existing culture into my Judaism - my journey as a white ex-Xtian has very much been about moving as far away from my origins and assimilating into Jewish life and culture as thoroughly as possible. There were very few things of my background that I found worth retaining, and those that I intentionally brought with me have direct correlates within Judaism anyway.
Prospective gerim who do have strong and positive connections to their heritage and/or faith of origin are going to have different challenges and opportunities than me. Judaism does not syncretize with other faiths well by design, and so integrating these identities - while likely possible - will almost certainly be a balancing act. Your partner is going to have to decide what trade-offs are acceptable in cases where things don't mesh well. I don't know much about the traditional Mvskoke religion or the extent to which your partner follows it (if at all); however, if it involves any form of polytheism or an incompatible form of monotheism they are probably going to have to make a choice. That's an excellent rabbi question if/when they reach that point of exploration. The other big potential areas of clash I see are if there are traditional foods that cannot be made in a kosher way or if there are important events that consistently happen on Shabbat. These latter issues are going to be more acute the more traditionally observant they are wishing to be as a Jew, and become less acute if they take a more flexible approach to halacha, such as through the Reform movement.
All that said, I have seen plenty of Jews by choice and/or Jews with multiple cultural backgrounds live out their other culture(s) in combination with their Judaism in ways that are beautiful, authentic, and personally meaningful. There may be challenges, but also opportunities to bring unique perspectives and Torah to the Jewish people.
Regarding resources, I'm going to put this out to jumblr, to see if there are folks who can speak to this experience or who have recommendations for specific books or other sources. I unfortunately do not have good recommendations off-hand, and would love to connect them to the right people and reading if possible.

There's something deeply satisfying about reading the work of a researcher I admire and seeing that we're both drawing from the same sources. Like, hell yeah, I'm playing with the big boys now. :D
