Yeah, it happened again in 2023.

The moment I finished binging this show I was thinking about writing about it and re-watching it. This is a sure sign that I adored a piece of media.

This is a wonderful BL.

Truly well executed, with smooth filming and lovely acting, both of a simplistic style that felt slightly more Korean than it did Japanese. It reminded me a little bit of Seven Days and a little bit of Takara and Amagi, and since these are my two favorite high school JBLs obviously I was bound to adore ICRY.

But what it reminded me of more than anything was Cherry Blossoms After Winter.

Odd for JBL and KBL to be so closely linked.

Like CBAW show, ICRY is classic live action yaoi.

Like the MOST classic of CLASSIC.

All the JBL tropes. I mean look at that image above? It's rooftop assignation, kabedon, and a handhold ALL AT ONCE.

There was also multiple runnings of the gays, surprise kisses (one on a bridge), and shoulder leans.

There is even a “seme looses control to desire” scene which leads to dub con. There is an abject apology after but still - you’ve been warned.

The premise is: smart sporty hot (and hella gay) Yamato has a long standing crush on his silly sunshine sweetheart bestie, Kakeru. Yamato is also stiff, self isolated, shy, and has only ever really managed to get along with Kakeru. I love this kind of pining seme so damn much, it probably biased me.

Unlike most uke, Kakeru starts to slowly figure out that his best friend is in love with him by ep 2 (let the chaos bisexual identity crisis commence).

So do some of the friends around them.

The story thus revolves around Yamato trying to unsuccessfully suppress his desire, and Kakeru trying to figure out if he can return Yamato‘s affection.

This biggest barrier is actually Kakeru's feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness (when compared to Yamato). But this is tempered by his genuine kindness which forces him into act with integrity around his dear friend's love and strive to fix everything (even himself) to prove worthy of it - whether he can ultimately return it or not.

Kakeru's struggles are pitted against Yamato‘s repressed need that keeps bubbling over and figuratively (sometimes literally) attacking Kakeru with romantic, emotional, and physical intensity.

Quick pitch:

This classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen. Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way. This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters and I felt almost honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen.

I’m not gonna lie, I dithered over whether to give this a 10/10 and nearly didn’t. But there is nothing wrong with it AS A BL.

And it's so GOOD to ALL of its characters and they are so good to each other. It's quiet and because of its goodness it will get overlooked, but I LOVED IT.

It's not one of those that BL outsiders will get and you must like Japan's style to enjoy it. But I'm in it. It's for me.

What am I hung up over? Even the kisses are good.

IWTV S2 Ep3 Musings - Loumand

Last post, I promise; I needed another nap; this ep's a freaking rollercoaster. And these two queens nearly gave me a stress ulcer!

DEBATABLE, Louis. I can think of FAR worse vamps than you, love.

Why're y'all having this whole conversation where anyone can hear?

DreamStat's a Loumand bed-death truther, jfc. 😭

I wanna know EXACTLY what Armand sees--or "feels"--whenever DreamStat pops up in Lou's head. Cuz he clearly knows precisely where Les is; he looks right in his direction. But does he HEAR Les too? (God I hope not, this song would've had me SEETHING--Back to Hell with you! 😅)

"Oh dear" indeed; I was HOLLERING.

SAM WAS DEVOURING THIS SCENE HOLY GOD GO AWAY DEMON

Armand looked PISSED, I was scared for Louis' life! And he DOES know, actually, yes Lou. I can almost GUARANTEE that he knows PRECISELY where Lestat is AT THIS VERY MOMENT, yes Lou.

Claudia's suffered more than Christ. And nice cut to Daniel sneaking around with Raglan James as Armand talks about Furies punishing "human wrongdoing." It's really interesting that Armand told the lawyer that LOUIS is the owner of the paintings. Is he the owner of the penthouse too? HOW MANY DEEDS DOES HE HAVE, ROLIN?

I wonder what AMC might be saying about Loumand's art collection, not just wrt what we know about art heist!Armand (which we'll likely see a nod to in Ep4 at the Louvre); but also wrt what we know about Dubai's godawful neocapitalist hellscape economy, and Loumand's "moralizing" about Parisian black markets in S01E02.

I wonder if that's the excuse Armand'll give the coven when Louis shows up for dinner in Ep4--very much NOT dead; and rips out Santiago's tongue.

WILD voice-over, cuz you KNOW that's what Santiago was thinking, too, LOL. (You wish, Francis.) But yes: Louis' finna end your whole career. XD

Another TERRIFYING jumpscare from the coven, like in Ep2 with Annika. Louis, I am shocked & appalled--can you not HEAR all these vamps planning your bloody murder around you? CLAUDIA! WTF!?

But this is how you know Armand's true personality--he hates getting his hands dirty. He kills all the time, but he makes his victims' deaths pretty. He'd rather sit back & let Lestat/Louis come in and wreck his whole coven, even though he has the power to just light those mofos up all on his own! I wish AMC emphasized a bit more that Armand not only writes/directs the plays--he's an ACTOR, too. And istg he's an expert at PRETENDING to be helpless, meanwhile he's the strongest vamp that's NOT one of the Children of the Millennia (thanks to how well Marius made him).

Armand, that is LOW; waiting until Claudia's stuck under the oaths b4 you tell her she's guilty of breaking Great Laws she doesn't even know about yet. WTF?

How TF you gon' hold Louis accountable for following the Laws when he wasn't even allowed to be in the effing room when they were read!? He's not even a member! WTF! (I get it--any rogue vampires are subject to death, yadayada; we know it's a stupid policy.)

I love how he plans to leave by himself here--it had nothing to do with picking "another one" over Claudia. He just didn't want to hold her back anymore. And his presence was causing problems. 😭 It's so cute that Louis' stipulation about London was that if it's "too large" he'd leave and go to Ireland (?!?)--he's become agoraphobic or something? He just wants to be alone in his hermit hole--MOOD. 😭

Good to get confirmation that the Fire Gift here is Armand and blessedly NOT Santiago--so why's he zooming around in the sewers?

Look, sometimes folks make terrible first impressions--Lestat was being hella racist, Louis' always playing defense, Armand was finna kill Louis in a gay public park. It happens.

Foreshadowing like crazy, as usual.

WILD thing to say. I'm gonna cry, please stop.

(What kinda hypocrisy is that, when you were made young your dang self!?) She's already 30+ years old--maybe she'll last a little longer if y'all (read: sexist, racist, ageist, ableist, etc society) don't eff around tryna make her life even harder! But AMC's deliberately cutting Claudia's life in half, compared to the books, cuz misogynoir's real and Claudia gets NOTHING out of vampirism, not even a fair chance. And y'all let her into the coven KNOWING how much she loves y'all, and KNOWING y'all were gonna kill her. EFF THIS WHOLE COVEN, ARMAND INCLUDED. (Lemme calm down--this kind of betrayal is exactly how Lestat must've felt in S01E07; I get it; they're getting a taste of their own medicine. But LESTAT EFFING HAD IT COMING. The coven should've just told them: y'all got til sunrise to GTFO our territory, you're not welcome here. This whole bit's unnecessary.)

This is the call of the wild, as Alphas KILL the children their stolen Omega brides had for other Alphas/Betas, so he can restart the gene pool with HIS DNA instead. I know y'all had National Geographic back then already--READ A BOOK, Louis, it's what you're best at.

Boy, we're not talking about some little (unrequited) CRUSH over a man you only knew for a few months (which you've CLEARLY not gotten over yet). Louis was MARRIED to the man for 30 YEARS. This is his MAKER. Lestat knew his whole family; went to the Black cookouts and everything! They literally built a home AND business together! They raised a child together! WHATCHU KNOW ABOUT THAT!?

And that's LESTAT'S DAUGHTER TOO--how much can you possibly love EITHER of them while planning to knock her off!? I can't listen to too much more of this. *hands Louis the torch and scythe*

Beautiful end of this STACKED episode. Incredible work, AMC! Jacob acted his PANTS off; he excels at the trembling voice, agonized facial expressions, and utter mental breakdowns. He's pulling DEEP within him, holy god; it's so raw, it's almost hard to watch. EMMY WHEN?!

My Stand In Ep 2 Stray Thoughts

Last week, we met Joe, our stuntman protagonist with a terminal case of Bottom Dementia. He is the primary stuntman and stand in for a popular actor named Tong. He met Ming, a younger friend of Tong that has been secretly pining after Tong for years. Ming mistakes Joe for Tong and begins to pursue him, and the toxic yaoi began. We know that in the future Joe dies in a stunt accident and wakes up in the body of another guy named Joe (not confusing at all) and goes back to work at the same company. We left at Ming possibly recognizing Joe by his back again.

Joe, baby boy, if he can't remember fucking you this is a huge warning.

Joe sneezes when he has an orgasm? I really hope Ming remembers this when he inevitably fucks Wahl!Joe.

Joe, asking to tag along with you so he can see another man is another warning.

Keeping it on the DL is also suspect! Joe, it's so painful watching you when I know you're only going to make bad choices!

This Tong guy seems very difficult to work with. Leaving his costar alone to drown is super unsubtle as a metaphor.

Joe, he is flirting with another man in front of you, who is the guy you are asked to resemble.

Joe, he was just flirting with Tong and now he's jealous of you possibly having feelings for other people! He's mad at you for picking up on the flirting. Get out of there.

Now, Joe, do not take your frustrations out on the other stuntmen.

I like that Sol wants to reunite because he left on a major misunderstanding, but recognizes that his feelings for Joe are genuine. This conversation about people taking advantage in the industry being a barrier to real connection is fascinating. I hope we see more of Sol, but I doubt Joe sees it.

Okay, legit fuck Ming. Ming showed up hella drunk and Joe took care of him and put him in a bed. Ming beefed with Sol and then dumped Joe on the floor for stinking of alcohol. I do not support these gay wrongs!

It's kind of a hilarious casting choice to put Porsche in a show where a gay man has feelings for his sister's boyfriend after his excellent work on You're My Sky. He's not involved in that plotline, but I'm thinking about it.

Well, that was fun, but at least Sol is still breathing.

Joe, are you really saying MING taught you about love? We're giving up on Sol for Ming??

I see. Ming has been very alone for a long time. I see how he became a stuntman.

I respect and support Ming's Lady and the Tramp desires.

I really hope this isn't the last we see of Sol! I feel bad for Joe because it feels like he's not got folks around to push back on Ming's bullshit. They were smart to pick Up for this role because he can make Ming's attempt to treat Joe and play house feel genuine, even if we know it's going to fall apart. Likewise, Phoom does the wounded puppy thing so well. Really impressed with the casting of this show.

ive only got as far as second episode and i decided im done. I cannot stand Truman Capote in any way shape or form and watching this show is like some kind of Guantanamo torture. They also have that big ear english dude i cant stand so by they time they dragged jessica langes carcass out to spit some boring old cunty dialog, i was ready to confess all the al qaeda secrets. Ally McBeal is campy, Chloe Sevigny talks slow, Treat Williams is hella sexy and Naomi Watts actually makes a sympathetic character in this gay ass mess. If they were to do a tarantino-esque rewrite of history and have Diane Lane pull out a machine gun or a flame thrower and toast Capote to death at the Russian Tea Room or some fun shit, i would keep watching

not to bring up old amd major fandom discourse but...

okay so watching the atla live action drove me back into my 2010 zutara era, and reading all that zutara fanfic made me think of klance (the other blue/red ship we should have had) so i was reading klance fic which made me realize i forgot most of the show and made me want to rewatch the show and im about to finish season 2 again and guys??? omg????

ok i was a klance girly thru and thru like everyone else but in the early seasons like 1 and 2 (and i realize what i'm about to say is blasphemous but bear with me) allura and keith had HELLA chemistry. like they had bonding moments and had like...a lot of deep talks and skinship (like the ep where they thought they were being tracked by zarkon, or the ep where allura gets over some of her galra hatred for keith's sake, etc etc) and were honestly more compelling than allura and lance or allura and shiro. maybe it's because i'm no longer a child/i'm looking at it through a more critical lens but the dynamics are totally different than what i remember in the early seasons.

OBVIOUSLY IT'S MEANT PLATONICALLY IN THE SHOW but the chemistry is real platonically or romantically. and for fandom that ships anything with a pulse, this ship really should have been more popular.

i think ppl were just so obsessed with wanting gay characters or characters with specific sexualities that they glossed over characters that had real chemistry. and only sticking to the skinny characters was whack. lance had hella chemistry with hunk and but i think y'all are too fatphobic to properly appreciate him. i blame the show for making hunk the least fleshed out of the main characters. hunk is more than comic relief!

also? y'all butchered my boy keith in fanon. he's got way more personality in the real show than in fanon, which like i understand that usually fanon characters have less personality but the difference is wild. canon keith is not nearly as withdrawn or moody as he is in fanon, he's just kind of a grumpy guy who knows what he wants and is incredibly determined to get it. he's not as emo or depressed (or repressed) as fanon makes him either

I don’t have time to be online much today (at least not for a while) but preliminary thoughts on the finale:

1. BUG NOIRE WAS BADASS (like I don’t typically care much about fight scenes but watching her destroy gabe was far more satisfying than I thought it would be.

2. Adrien. Needs to know the truth there’s no way that’s sustainable. But there are also two more seasons so I’m not getting upset yet.

3. NO REVEAL?!?! (I’m actually happy about that I have fic ideas hehe)

4. Really really glad Marinette didn’t end up making the wish. I had the bug noire transformation spoiled for me ages ago and that was my main worry when I saw it. That would have just felt so ooc to me I’m really glad they didn’t do that.

5. Overall actually loved these episodes. Would have liked Ladynoir together for the last fight of course but I like that not everything is nicely wrapped up. There’s more room for conflict (read: angst fics)

5b. I feel like Adrien getting his amoks might be the closest to him “knowing the truth” that we ever get. To me that scene doesn’t read like he knows the truth though so… (more fuel for angst fics 🤭)

5c. A small part of me is worried they’ll somehow stick the reveal into ep “27”? But I don’t think they will—that wouldn’t make sense and would be hella anticlimactic.

5d. Abshbsshsh saw something about “is it emilie or Amelie” at the end and I’m going wild about that. But either way she and Nathalie are gay for each other now I have decided

oh my god you guys marshall and gary are so cool¿¿¡¡¡¡¿¿¿¿ they havent interacted w/ each other directly yet but god bless their hearts theyre hella sweet. the way marshalls eyes lit up when he took a bite outta that gingerbread or whatever fella........ thwyre gay gay homosexual gay. cake is hella cute shes dear to me. everybody probably mentioned this already but i physically cant hold it im so happy cake is a girl and is voiced by a man. this is such a fun fact not to mention it works incredibly well too. ive only ever seen this type of situation in bobs burgers which is a DARN SHAME we as a society really need to utilize this more. NOT TO MENTION that scene in the trailer¿

Ok my ep 9 predictions/ headcanons (that I definitely need to happen):

Colin wakes up like he did in ep 3 but this time Michael is next to him. I need some domestic fluff !!!! Bonus point if he encourages Colin and tells him that everything will be ok or a parallel to Keeley and Jack in the last episode (?)

The Trent and Colin talk, I can see this take a few routes… a) Colin actively seeks out Trents help, as some others said, rushing into his office and everyone else being hella confused why of all people he wants to speak with Trent or b) things go horrible at practice and Trent volunteers to talk to Colin leaving everyone confused once again. Basically I need a whole mystery of why those two would talk to each other and everyone trying to solve it. And gay mentor Trent Crimm in action!!!!

Colin and Isaac keep ignoring each other, it‘s awkward, the team needs a second to figure out that that is happening. Maybe they will after the disastrous practice (from the thumbnail) and they‘re all like „what‘s going on???“ but neither of them will say anything. Colin leaves in distress, Isaac follows and they angrily discuss their feelings because especially Colin has some strong repressed emotions that all bubble to the surface and Isaac just scream back at him and voices his feelings </3

Anatomy of a Scene!

Alright... let's break it down, shall we?

So, what do we have coming into this scene? -- We have Kurt, who is ready to take his relationship with Blaine to the next level, but is unsure how to express that (because he's young) and is slightly insecure when he compares himself to a Sebastian-type who is much more sexually forthright than he is. And we have Blaine, who is trying to be a perfect boyfriend, so much so that he's beating himself up inside bacuse he feels like he's let Kurt down.

Remember, coming into this scene we have the two of them at odds over how they left their relationship - that awkward moment in the car where Blaine got handsy and Kurt, the romantic, does not want his first time to be in the back of a car. And to make perfectly clear - Kurt's issues in that scene stem from the fact that he wants sex to make him feel special - he is not the type of person that wants to jump into a pleasure seeking thrill ride for the heck of it. Not because Blaine got too handsy with him.

Meanwhile, we have a Blaine who is always at odds with himself. He wants to be touched and loved and for a moment, lets himself want what he wants (which is his boyfriend) regardless of the situation. For a moment, (through the alcohol) he's stopped trying to follow the playbook set by Kurt - but seize the moment. Part of this is through experiencing a liberating queer atmosphere (of the gay bar) and part of this is through the pressure brought on by Artie and his shaming and part of it is that when you try to be someone else for someone - you do eventually crack.

[I feel like this whole episode deserves more conversation, but I'm somewhat truncating for setting up the scene.]

[I hope y'all enjoy this hella long analysis...]

When we come into the scene, what do we have? Blaine practicing a dance move over and over. Why? Because he knows he screwed up and he wants to go back and correct it. Because he knows he can do better. And - because he puts pressure on himself to be better no matter what. Blaine often strives for perfection - not only in the show, but as a person and as a boyfriend, and it's killing him that he's screwed up. He can't rewind and do the Scandals stuff again. But he can practice so he's perfect on stage.

Kurt: Shouldn't you be celebrating? Blaine: I'm going over this move. I messed it up tonight. I know I can do it better.

Kurt's watching from a distance - this is the first time their relationship has been a little rocky since they've started dating. And it's always awkward and a little hard to approach a subject when you're not used to having to deal with the negative parts of a relationship as well as the positive parts. They've gotten into a legit argument, and that's shaken them both and a little eye opening for both - but it's also a way to learn and grow and understand that your partner is a real person who is not a copy of you - or there for your pleasure but a real person whom you have to navigate a relationship.

Kurt's line is breaking the ice a bit - throwing out a complement, that Blaine should be happy with the performance. He recognizes though that Blaine is in his head. Kurt isn't mad about the previous night, but he is still a bit insecure, himself, as he compares himself to Sebastian, and isn't quite sure how to deal with Blaine and Blaine's emotions. So, he's approaching carefully, but sending out a line that he comes in peace.

Blaine, as I said earlier, is still beating himself up for his mistakes, and says as much as mentions that he messed up. It's not just about the show - but about the previous night, too.

Kurt: Beauty of the stage. You get to do it all over again tomorrow night.

Kurt's letting Blaine off the hook. He doesn't want to fight. And in fact is reassuring Blaine that even if he screws it up - he has a chance to do it again. It's not all or nothing with the play - and it's not all or nothing with him.

Kurt: Personally, I thought both you guys were perfect. Blaine: Thank you. Your Officer Krupke killed. Kurt: Thank you. Blaine: Brought the house down. Kurt: Well, I can't help but pull focus. Sorry. Blaine: Don't apologize - it was great.

As we move into this next little section - it's a mutual appreciation fest. Kurt's offering reassurance to Blaine -- that he does find Blaine amazing, and that he does love watching his boyfriend work. It's also an opening for the conversation Kurt really wants to have (which we'll get to in a second). If they open with complements - maybe things said later won't seem so sharp.

Meanwhile, Blaine is quick to volley the complement back. He's always been in awe of Kurt's talent (and there's a slight nod here in the 'pull focus' line that is acknowledging that Kurt went out for Tony. He may not have gotten the part, but he was still able to leave an impact on the audience).

Kurt's tentative with how he approaches - as if not wanting to scare Blaine off. Blaine's blunt and to the point. Kurt's amazing in his eyes, too. Kurt's always going to be the star of the show to /him/. There's also a bit of subtext in Blaine saying he shouldn't apologize -- Kurt's always going to be himself, and Blaine - who is more tied up in his own imperfections - doesn't think Kurt has anything to be sorry for. Kurt shines as his unique self, and he should be proud of that.

Before I go further - let's talk about some of the setting and atmosphere things. They start out on different sides of an empty stage. I love the stage stuff, in general, partly because it's thematic to the show, but more so because there's nothing else but them, their feelings, and their raw emotions. There's nothing to hide behind, and there's nothing obstructing them. It's just two people and an empty space. A way to say that they're going to get to the heart of the issue, and that it's about them, as a couple, and not all the rest of the trappings that are usually surrounding them.

Also - look at their clothing - it's black and white -- symbolizing simplicity. (And also a nod to the old black and white romances of yesteryear? maybe?) But also - even though growing up and navigating first loves is hard - the love they have is simple. Despite the greyness of different personalities, their love is as simple as black and white. And, added layer - at the end of the day, even when they're at odds, they're still in sync with each other.

Also note body language - Kurt's hands are in his pockets. He's withdrawn and a little timid because he's not sure how this is going to pan out. Like he usually does, he goes inward when facing something difficult. Meanwhile, Blaine's hands are on his hips, and his emotions are on his sleeve. He's angry and frustrated - but at himself more than anything else.

Kurt: All your friends were here tonight. The Warblers. Sebastian. They were all loving it.

Now the conversation has a pointed purpose. Kurt's laying out there that Sebastian was in the audience, and putting out feelers to see how Blaine reacts. Would Blaine prefer someone faster and looser like Sebastian? Kurt doesn't really think so - but he's still insecure about the whole thing.

Blaine is going to recognize this - and cut through through everything. No need to dance around what they really want and need to talk about.

Blaine: C'mere. Give me your hand. Hold it to your heart. Kurt: Just like the song? Blaine: Just like the song.

Notice the scene shifts, and now we see them in profile, being silhouetted by the spotlight (that's still on? let's ignore the reality that after the show things would be turned off... it's a romantic moment... needing romantic lighting...) Also the pretty piano music starts to play in the background, signifying a drive to the end of the scene. (Personally, I feel like since they were trying to jam so much into these episodes, this second half of the scene isn't allowed to breathe as much as it should, but I feel like that about most of Glee.)

So, there's a lot of symbolism going on here. Hand holding is a thing that is very important into the Klaine story. The first time they met - Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand - the first time a boy willing reached out and touched Kurt in a loving way, and was not disgusted by it. Kurt also expressed in early Season 2 that he wanted to hold hands with the person he loved and not be ridiculed by it. And, of course, Kurt says in Season 2 that in his fantasies, the touch of the fingertips is as sexy as it gets. Hand holding is a motif, throughout the series, as a part of their relationship.

It's an old school, romantic way to express love -- and Kurt, as a character, has always loved those little touches. Blaine is also an old school romantic - it's a thing they have in common, so these gestures work for them. (There are also bigger reasons, too, this is a motif. For one - it touches upon the fact that queer couples can't often express love in more overt ways in public. There's the fact that they're subverting the trope of m/m couples always being hot and horny, and letting them be more 'feminine' in nature. And also - this is a PG-ish TV show on network TV and there's limits to what it can show. So, there are a lot of reasons the show continues to do this.)

And... also there's the fact that this is tied in with the song One Hand, One Heart - that they're joining together as one entity. They're committing to each other in a spiritual way. But also... they'll be committing to each other in a physical way (for the first time) in a few minutes. So holding hands over hearts is a way to symbolize all of that.

I should note - also, they've now closed the gap between each other -- meaning that hesitance at approaching is dissipating as they get into the heart of the matter. It's also a way to frame them as if they're being spiritually united. They aren't getting married, but they are becoming spiritually bound to one another.

Blaine: Kurt, Sebastian doesn't mean anything to me. And you were right. Our first time shouldn't be like that. I was drunk, and I'm sorry. Kurt: Sure beats the last time you were drunk and made out with Rachel. But, I'm sorry, too. I wanted to be your gaybar superstar. But try as I might - I'm still just a silly romantic. Blaine: It's not silly.

So, now we get into the heart of the matter. Blaine reassures Kurt, now, that Sebastian doesn't mean anything, and he's sorry he really screwed up at Sandals.

And this is where I reiterate -- Kurt wasn't mad that Blaine got drunk and handsy. He was upset that his romantic fantasy wasn't coming true. (And he had every right to be upset - let's be clear here.) But he was more upset that Blaine made out with Rachel than what happened in that car. It's good that Blaine apologized, and Kurt is accepting that apology.

Now - Kurt apologizes here, too. He doesn't really need to. He shouldn't feel like he needs to apologize for being himself. But he's putting himself out there -- stating that he was trying to be what he thought Blaine wanted, and couldn't do that.

(Which is fine -- neither of them should feel the need to change themselves for the other -- but they're young and in a young relationship, and they're going to learn a lot of things over the course of the next few seasons. This is just a first step.)

And here's where Kurt admits that deep down, he's just an old romantic. And Blaine is reassuring, as he lunges in for that kiss - that he's on the exact same page here. He doesn't need or want a Sebastian type. He just wants Kurt.

Sebastian was always a weak, non-obstacle in their relationship. And Blaine was more caught up in the open queerness of Scandals and wanting to live in that moment - and not in their closed-minded, small town in Ohio. Of course, part of the misunderstanding is Kurt misinterpreting it -- and Blaine pushing Kurt too fast. But the purpose is to come to this moment, where Blaine is reassuring Kurt by kissing him hard.

Blaine doesn't always have the words (though he is often good with them) and will act instead. The kiss is added reassurance that Blaine wants him -- not just as a gay friend, or hand holding boyfriend, but in a sexual way. Blaine loves Kurt. But he also /wants/ Kurt - and a boy /wanting/ Kurt has always been an insecurity. Kurt's always losing out to Rachel or heteronormative or someone who just may move faster sexually like Sebastian. But Blaine quick to kiss him - with such passion - is the reassurance that Kurt needs to see that he is loved and is wanted in a way that he's always fantasied about - but never really thought he'd get.

It takes a moment for Kurt to throw his arms around Blaine, because he has to compute that, omg, this boy still loves me, he wants me, what is even going on, yes, this feels good, let's do more of this...

They're still holding on to each other as they part - conflict now resolving, the two of them being firmly on the same page again.

Kurt: You take my breath away. And not just now, but tonight on that stage. I was so proud to be with you. Blaine: I hope so. I want you to be.

The thing about the Klaine relationship is that (for better or for worse and here for the better) is that there's a circular sequencing in it. With Kurt's insecurities addressed and with him feeling secured and loved, it's his turn to reciprocate. He tells Blaine how proud he is - that he was proud even after their fight - and that he's proud, even when Blaine was not feeling his best, of who he is and the performer he is.

This means so much to Blaine, and addresses Blaine's insecurities of feeling inadequate. It gives Blaine a moment to address -- you can fail, and I'm still here to love you and be proud of you. Blaine's emotional as he replies. He's so hard on himself - but he's getting validation from Kurt, and that's something, now, that /he/ desires.

Blaine: Um, Artie's having an afterparty at Breadstix. Would you accompany me? Kurt: No. I want to go to your house. Blaine: Okay.

Okay - first of all, can we talk about Blaine's formal invitation to Kurt? Lol. He's always the dapper gentleman - because that's who Blaine is.

But I love this last beat. Because we're back to the beginning of the episode. Kurt has gone on a journey here. And no - I don't think he feels like he owes Blaine anything. Blaine suggesting the afterparty shows that he doesn't expect anything. He's not pushing Kurt - and is happy just being on good terms with Kurt again. Kurt, however, is finally able to express what he couldn't in the first scene in Blaine's room. He's attracted to and turned on by his boyfriend. And he wants to have sex. And while he's probably still a little scared of it (first times can be scary!) he feels comfortable and trusts Blaine.

Baby Penguin Kurt no more! After this Kurt is gonna be a sex fiend...

But the thing I really love about it is how sure Kurt is. He's done beating around the bush, and being scared about it. He wants Blaine, and knows that it will be special because they've been spirituality united (that's what the hands on the hearts was for!) -- and because he knows he can have that romantic moment he's always desired.

(He also must know the Andersons are out of town or something...?)

And I love Blaine's answer. They're staring into each other's eyes. He knows exactly what Kurt's thinking. And you can see him process it. Kurt really wants to have sex? Okay, yes, apparently I didn't screw up my relationship entirely -- let's do this!

And that's the scene! And my headcanon is they fumble their way out of the auditorium, holding hands and giggling as they make it to their cars and race off to Blaine's house (or maybe a stop at a store to get condoms? -- who are we kidding, Blaine already owns condoms) and have a night of awkward, fumbly, first time sex -- that they'll remember the rest of their lives, even if they look back at it as simple and not the best sex they ever had. It is a simple, romantic, and special moment between the two of them.

And, honestly, this is the scene that made me fall in love with Klaine. The silly romantic and taking my breath away lines really did it for me -- because I am a silly romantic. It's a beautiful, little scene and I adore it.

obligatory 6am episode thoughts (and MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TED LASSO SPOILERS)

so far it's ep2 > ep1 > ep3 imo. this episode was basically the start of various plotlines but didn't have any big moments for any of them, so it's a little 🤷

ngl, hated zava with a passion and all of his scenes were cringe and boring to me. we already went over the dick star player arc in season 1 with jamie, and zava purposely has less redeeming moments (because he doesn't have a three-season story ahead of him). this plot could only be interesting if it leads to a break in format or character development: ted yelling and giving up on a player / rebecca firing him despite the wins because she cares about the team / west ham drama.

I was SO FOND of colin and michael in this episode!!! they were sweet but not over the top and those moments were literally so far removed from the rest of colin's scenes in the ep, which just stresses how long colin has been hiding this. really liked michael coming to sam's restaurant and their collaborative cover story, because I'm pretty tired of gay relationship drama being one dude angry that the other one is "ashamed" of him. framing the media as their enemy and not each other is a good start.

speaking of which: trent. big sigh. could SO see that plot coming from all of the interviews mentioning trent as both a good and bad presence in richmond. idk if he'd actually out colin, because it'd be hard to come back from that in the eyes of the audience, but there's definitely drama coming and SOMEONE is going to either out colin or threaten him with it, leading to him coming out himself. could be rupert, and that'd be the start of nate realizing he's gone too far. either way that's one plotline I'm hella excited for.

that being said, if michael ends up outing then, I'm 🤡

I simply do not know what to make of tish's predictions. rebecca being upside down and drenched is foreshadowing the amsterdam episode, and whoever saves her (probably ted) would be the knight/shite. but being a mother? obviously not biologically, since hannah explicitly said it's no longer an option. so... tedbecca future???? I'm not even a shipper, I honestly can't see who else she could adopt. rupert's daughter somehow? idefk

jamie was my fave this episode, followed closely by roy. thank god for that bromance, and all of jamie's sudden vocabulary moments were laughing out loud funny. praying for a shot of him reading a dictionary and explaining his sudden word knowledge 😂 am Not Amused at the scene by the bar where keeley looks at them both, but we shall see. I'm actually kinda here for a jamie/shandy thing? their vibes sort of fit lmao. also YES to sam and his chef falling in love. let the man have some happiness and normalcy!

the ted/sassy ongoing hints confuse me, and their purpose escapes me even three seasons later. remind us ted can fuck? I don't feel like it's an endgame thing.

I'm not touching the jake thing with a ten feet pole, jfc. jake seems like a nice guy in theory, but going out with your patient/marriage counselor + not telling your co-parent that you're bringing a new man into your kid's life? no. michelle is on thin ice with me.
