Say what you will about Van Helsing 2004; hate it, love it, be indifferent, But the All-Hallow's masquerade ball went sooooo hard and it had zero right to do so! It's a fun, campy, monster mash movie with wonderfully dated ( and expensive) cgi and non-stop action meant to be a popcorn flick one takes out to watch around spooky season. And it has this* chef's kiss* GORGEOUS 6 minute sequence plopped arbitrarily in the second act, which unexpectedly surpasses nearly every other ball in the last 30+ years of film( notable exception being the Cinderella 2015 ball) for literally no reason other than to be dramatic af.

Like feast your eyes on this Gothic masterpiece!!! Who doesn't want to immediately live in this picture?!??

They used those candles with oil in them so that they would have real candles, real string orchestra( I believe), probably around 100 real life extras( something which is tragically absent in modern film), said extras are all in beautiful fully decked-out costumes( which are in luxuriously dark colours, but nearly no fully black, another thing you cannot say for much modern cinema), REAL CIRQUE DU SOLEIL PERFORMERS for all the acrobatics!!!! Hell, instead of filming in a sound stage, where they could control the reverb and the acoustics and the size of the set and the bloody lighting ( they apparently had a heck of a time emulating the firelight for this sequence) and the temperature( it's very cold in stone churches!) better, they filmed in a Baroque church in Prague! As I said, peak dramatic splendour, jfc...

Think about that a second...They filmed a vampire masquerade in a Baroque Catholic Church( St. Nicholas' in Lesser Town, if you were curious) with amazing over-the-top acoustics and marble statues and real, tiled floors and marble pillars and a choir loft which they very much utilized, covered the pipe organ and the altar with a grand brocade curtain so it wouldn't be so obviously a, you know, a church! And there's a gold gilt elevated and canopied pulpit into which they put two vampire kiddies for, again, the sake of being dramatic.

And the costumes! They remind me of the 25th anniversary Phantom of the Opera Masquerade costumes. Same quality, like they're old, well-cared-for costumes pulled out of a warehouse, instead of fast industry churn-outs. With lots of trim and colour and masks and lace and feathers and..just...ugh.. they are all perfect! Just look at all the head pieces on the ladies and the hats on all the gentleman ( save Dracula of course) and the powdered wigs on the musicians. ANNNNDD! The dresses are historically correct!!!!!! It's the 80's bustle era! Nobody does the 80's bustle era in film anymore and it's a bummer. Oh and one other thing! Anna's ( and other women's) hair, at least here in the ball, is also historically accurate because it's all pinned up! None of those fucken modern beachwaves at a ball! Everybody's got updo's!

Gah, I swear, Dracula in his gold cloak really does things to me in this scene!

By the way, the acrobatics are bonkers in here for just background stuff!! Especially the random guys on unicycles and the dude playing the violin whilst standing on a ball...Like....WHAT?

Anyways, all this to say, that this masquerade ball feels sooo real and tangible and because of that it blows every other film out of the water, and no, I will not change my mind!!!!!

Oh cool we're making Lucifer adorkable and silly. I'd normally say it's cute that he and Charlie are so similar but we literally just established he wasn't a great parent to her, so why are we trying to make him funny and relatable

As much as I don't like Lucifer I honestly don't really blame him for being hesitant to want sinners to go to Heaven because yeah Heaven seems fuckin awful from all that we've seen of it

"How can [Alastor] have faith in me but my own father can't?" He doesn't though, Al decided to help out with the hotel out of sheer boredom. Love how this show can't even keep its own story straight lmao

Wait DOES Al suddenly care?? When did this happen????

Okay overall, one of least grating episodes so far. I really hope we see Lucifer actually trying to be more involved in Charlie's life and y'know, actually grow a bit, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. This show is SO immensely frustrating because it keeps giving these tiny scraps of genuine emotion and good storytelling that's just buried amongst sex jokes and swears, and it's just enough to make me want to keep watching. If it were just objectively bad all around I would've just dropped it already. Ugh.

I am caught up on Lovely Runner (Episode 14), and I have a lot of thoughts, but I will try to keep it short, sweet, and simple.

⚠️ Major spoilers ahead! ⚠️

Kim Hye-yoon is amazing. I love her.

Byeon Woo-seok is such a gorgeous man.

How are they real? 🥹

From the start, Sol is a huge fan of Eclipse, but she apparently has an interest in film, which is fine, but why doesn't the show - I don't know - show it?

Does living over a video store make it suffice? But she barely works behind the counter other than the one scene with Sun-jae.

How about recommending a movie to a customer? Get excited over new releases? Fanning over a director?

What about outside of the store? Joining a film club? Attending a festival?

Yeah, there is one scene where she works on a video for a shaman, but why can't they give us more of it? This includes filming, storyboarding, and/or directing.

ANYTHING.

It is her dream to be a filmmaker, right?

So. . . SHOW US!

Include her struggles with the wheel chair, such as going to location to location, meeting people in different places, and how inaccessible the city is!

GIVE US MORE OF IT!

But no.

ONE (1) film production company can't accommodate her.

UNLESS that is her last option. . .

(But, of course, we need to see it! Show more interviews, the recuriter discomfort, the lack of elevators, ramps, vans, etc, etc.)

It is a classic case of show, don't tell!

Yet, she gets the job after she changes the timeline.

ALL BECAUSE SHE CAN WALK NOW? ? ?

What happens to relevant experience? An internship? Meeting someone in the industry?

Either way, people with wheelchairs can't be in Film Production, even with the appropriate exp and skill, because of stairs.

Fucking stairs.

*Sighs*

I'm sorry people with wheelchairs.

You deserve better representation.

So much better.

There are no movie posters in her room. (Not even a generic one like My Sassy Girl or In The Mood For Love or Godfather! ! !)

(Although there are film related decorations in the latest episode. But why does it take that long to SHOW it? Smh.)

She doesn't talk about movies. Like at all.

A course in Film Studies doesn't count. Bffr.

She doesn't go to the movie theater other than her date with Sun-jae.

She doesn't watch any movie in her room, in her class, or with her friends and family prior to meeting Sun-jae.

There are no scenes where they bond over it.

(We RARELY see her grandma.)

(Way too many scenes with Hyun-ju and Geum.)

NO FILM REFERENCES? WHAT THE FUCK?

Yeah, there is Basic Instinct. . .

But it is a gag.

So, circling back to Eclipse, I keep thinking she wants to work in the music industry.

Or at least in management.

But she doesn't!

What the fuck?

Let's compare to Sun-jae now.

He is written more intentionally, and this is obviously due to the circumstance, but come on.

There are SO many scenes where Sun-jae swims. It takes up a good chunk of the plot.

But we can't see Sol watch a fucking movie? She only does it when Sun-jae is in the picture?

Give me a B R E A K.

It is nice to see his transition from swimming to singing, but. . .

We never see Sun-jae sing (aside from his performances with the band).

He doesn't fucking hum!

Yet he sounds like an angel.

His voice doesn't crack.

He doesn't sound out of breath. Off key.

He sings perfectly.

JFC.

Even when he and Sol listen to music in the pool, he doesn't hum or sing.

Ugh. Missed opportunity.

He is into songwriting, as well, but we never see him write anything until the timeline changes!

What the hell?

There are no posters of bands or musical artists.

There is no collection of vinyls or CDs.

He doesn't own an mp3 player or an iPod.

He doesn't listen to music on his computer or from a CD player.

His room is all about swimming.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC⁉️

Where are the band shirts? ? ?

Why are all his shirts basic as fuck?

Why is he wearing a bomber jacket?

(Is it to subvert the expectation? 🤔)

What about attending a concert?

He doesn't talk about music. Like at all.

(We don't know who his favorite artist is.)

Even with his BAND MATE In-hyuk.

There are no discussions and/or actively involved in composing, singing, or conversations about music.

NOTHING‼️‼️‼️

Their bromance is cute tho.

(This could be me, but I feel like they have more chemistry. Maybe because they have a common interest - despite showing us about it - and they engage with it. Idk. You tell me.)

We see more screen time with Sun-jae and his Dad compared to Sol and her mom.

His dad gets a scene stuck in the washroom.

Do you get where I am going with this? There are holes in the character writing. It looks like Sol and Sun-jae are only people when they are together.

Smh.

Barely any music references. Which is a SHAME bc the story takes place during the Golden Era of K-pop. Although I'm glad they give Girls Generation the respect they deserve.

I'M SO GLAD YURI GOT THE CAMEO. After all, there are eight members in the group. It is not only Yoon-ah and Tae-yeon. 😤

(Genie Era is so immaculate!)

The show runners should have watched the Reply series if they want to integrate music and/or pop culture properly.

Tae-seong is fine. Song Geon-hee is great in the role. I wish he wasn't the second male lead tho.

(Also, Sky Castle reunion? Let's go!)

He has chemistry with Sun-jae.

Then how about this: we restart the show, but In-hyuk is the main character. He goes back in time and tries to save Sun-jae.

They are in a love triangle with Tae-seong. But, Tae-seong gives up since In-hyuk and Sun-jae are meant to be. They play in the band together, get famous, and go through the ups and downs in the music industry.

Sol is their best friend while she is in a wheelchair!

DO YOU SEE THE VISION? 👀

Ok, so let's talk about the murderer.

IT IS SO FUCKING RANDOM.

I HATE IT.

(I hate this trend! Not every romcom needs a fucking murder mystery!)

I like the bit whenever Sol gets to a crosswalk, she gets anxious, and Sun-jae stands in front of her, and she calms down.

So, you would think a car accident takes place, right? After all, it is realistic to get disabled from a car accident. Many people suffer from it.

BUT NOPE.

THAT IS CLICHÉ.

So let's add a random ass murderer who drives a taxi and kidnaps people. 🙄

But there is no build-up to it. There is no news report on the TV. There are no appearances early in the show.

There is only a scene about him AFTER the shows "introduces" him.

"Oh, look! Someone is murdered! Omg!"

JFCCCCC.

What the fuck?

The guy who asks for her phone at the bus stop seems like a better option since he comes off so creepy and persistent, but no.

Oh well.

It is what it is.

So we approach the end.

Based on what we know, Sun-jae will regain his memories, the murderer will get caught, and they will have a happy ending.

But I don't know.

The way the writing is going, anything can happen.

So I guess we will wait and see!

HEY GUESS WHAT I'm down to the last two episodes of She-Ra in my rewatch

On a related note, should you desire to read them all starting from s1ep1 for some godforsaken reason, here's the link. Please be amused at my claims that I would not do this for every episode and my repeated attempts to cut back on how much I copy/paste dialogue and/or explain the entire plot instead of just making jokes and commentary

If, somehow, you are New Here, I've been rewatching all of the 2018 She-Ra, ostensibly for fic-writing reasons as I had forgotten huge quantities of the plot. I have since become deeply obsessed, as one does.

I make a lot of adult jokes, random asides, references to other things, commentary, and a lot of cursing and crying. I love Catradora and I love Catra especially and have a tendency to add a screenshot every time they so much as look at each other. It seems silly to warn for spoilers at this point, but yeah, this is a RE-watch. It's just that I forgot a lot of it because I watched it the first time as it was coming out (pun intended). The shit I did remember is so fucking random tho lol

The last time I tried to do a two-parter in one post the number of times I had to reblog it because tumblr only allows 30 images per post got real stupid, so while I do still assume I will have to reblog multiple times per episode, I'm doing each episode separately.

ON A RELATED NOTE I know I made the joke in the last episode about how many people have the failsafe as a tattoo but the PROBLEM is that now I literally LIVE with a tattoo artist whose work I like--I already have two tattoos they've done, here and here, and the temptation is extremely high?? but I don't have any other obvious fandom-related tattoos (unless you count the title of a Björk song) so it feels weird to start with this one???? Like I don't have any LoTR or BBC Sherlock or SU or K/DA tattoos (to list off a bunch of fandoms I was devastatingly obsessed with at the time) so getting one for THIS fandom feels kinda weird. But like, also, if I got it kinda small on one wrist it would look kinda cool and be a nice loud DID U KNOW I'M GAY kinda thing. Gyahhh.

She's struggling to do She-Ra, and I'm sitting here YELLING because IT'S BECAUSE CATRA LEFT and UGH I want to murder Shadow Weaver

Oh she manages to transform anyway. Without making any noise or glowing lights, just pop, She-Ra

related aside but like, every culture that figured out bows and arrows invented at least one kind of string instrument. Literally archers just fidgeting with their bows and going "oh this makes a nice sound, what if I put more strings on this thing." So many different places and cultures invented things like a guitar or like a harp or like a violin. But also I want to know who the FUCK figured out the hurdy-gurdy??? oh my god I just looked up the hurdy-gurdy and I'm cracking up because one of the earliest depictions of it is from the 1100's, in the Santiago de Compostela cathedral. A place I have been. Because I did the Camino last year.

I would like to take a moment and be grateful for the people who put together the transcripts on the fandom wiki for saving me typing up long bits of lore-heavy dialogue

She-Ra: "Prime is getting closer every day to figuring out how to access the Heart of Etheria. If he succeeds, he can use it to destroy worlds, galaxies, maybe even the entire universe. The Failsafe is our only chance at stopping him."

"His hold over them grows stronger every day they're chipped. If we don't free them now, we might lose them forever. Prime holds every advantage in this fight. He'll be ready for us. But we have a plan. Entrapta?" Entrapta: "I finally succeeded in cracking Prime's signal pattern. If I get access to his Spire network, I can use it to broadcast a jamming frequency that will disable all of the chips on Etheria, freeing everyone at once!" She-Ra: I need you all to get Entrapta to the Spire and keep Prime's forces distracted while she jams the signal."

"We're going to make sure that Prime can never hurt anyone ever again. We're ending this today. For good."

oh lord so Shadow Weaver is still there, sulking and looking away, and she looks over at her and starts almost losing She-Ra and being Adora again

have I mentioned how much I hate Shadow Weaver >:(

Adora goes outside...and looks around. I know who she's looking for. *sobs into a pillow*

NO. she's LOOKING for her GIRLFRIEND

I made that joke and then Glimmer literally says "Any sign of Catra?" I have to remember that at this point in the story literally everyone knows how in love they both are. Except them. Of course.

Adora: "She's not coming back." ;_;

Adora: I mean you don't have to come with me this could be dangerous Bow: the fuck are you talking about of course we're going

And she turns into She-Ra again, roll intro

Okay so they go to the Crystal Castle thing where Light Hope was

it doesn't look so good

but also that's creepy

anyway they tell the hologram (not Light Hope, the other one) that they're looking for the Heart of Etheria and that they're Friends of Mara. She-Ra gets scanned and then a door opens into a passageway. Bow and Glimmer take her hands and they walk into the hall but:

she's still looking for someone

I have to deal with another episode and change of her looking for Catra ghghggh this hurts meeeee

OH SO OF COURSE they literally switch to showing us Catra

bahaha okay so she sits up and looks behind her kind of sadly, and Melog just skids to a stop so hard they throw Catra off

And Melog looks at Catra like she's fucking nuts. Catra's like, wtf is wrong with you??? and Melog looks back like BITCH WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??? Catra what did you think was going to happen when you got a therapy animal that can literally read your moods. Melog knows you're being a dumbass and has NO reason to pretend to believe your surface "I don't give a shit" act!!

Melog does airplane ears at that. And then just pounces Catra.

Time for pressure! Just like a real therapy animal. Big weighted blanket!

Catra just immediately starts crying.

Catra: "You saw what happened! Adora chose Shadow Weaver, okay? Not me!"

*sobs into hands* you useless fucking dumbass that is your abysmally low self-esteem talking literally every living semi-sentient thing in the galaxy knows Adora's in love with you EXCEPT YOU

I can get frustrated with AU fics where these two both pull this "but what if she doesn't like me back" thing for ages while everyone around them is face-palming in frustration, but like. You have to admit. It's accurate to canon.

(It's also accurate to lesbians in general, lbh. Either fucking on the first date or doing the "but what if she's not into me" thing for months-to-years. Sometimes both, including in some of the fics I've written, heyooooo.)

Melog purrs and licks her face. A clone approaches and they both go invisible and then follow it.

MEANWHILE

the rest of the rebellion is attacking Horde Prime's ship thing

Wrong Hordak helps Entrapta get into the spire. The whole point of this fight (which I didn't bother screenshotting lol) is to give Entrapta time to disconnect everyone's chips from Horde Prime.

Lol once inside Entrapta does another one of those "holy shit this stuff looks so cool...OMG FOCUS" things

Back at the Crystal Castle Glimmers like "omg are you scared" and She-Ra says "No, I just hope this works." Liar.

Bow: "It'll be okay. And when we get back, it'll be a whole new world."

this poor girl. she's so heartbroken.

(meanwhile the plot of my fic-in-progress is literally them breaking up. (not forever.) but it's hilarious of me to get SO UPSET over this scene when I'm going to force them to repeat it. like it's a mutual decision in my fic but it doesn't make it hurt any less.)

PFFT I unpaused it, and IMMEDIATELY:

oh god I saw someone talking about this in a youtube video right around when I started my rewatch

It's a hologram, she's not actually there. And Catra goes through multiple other ages, including her kid self, being chipped on Horde Prime's ship, when they were Horde cadets, etc; before going back to looking like she does now.

Adora goes to touch Catra's hand and the hologram disappears

(good lord she's beautiful here)

And I think I agree with the youtube video: Adora knew she was upset about Catra running off, but this is the moment she specifically realizes she's in love, and it breaks her heart into tiny pieces.

(Hah, I actually say a very similar thing in part of my fic that they mention in the video--that previous to this, she refused to let herself want this or even think about it. "I didn't even realize this was something I could want.")

BUT ALSO so like is this a remnant of Light Hope's programming that tortured them with childhood flashbacks in season one (in order to drive them apart) or what

She-Ra: "We need to be careful. It looks like this place can still project memories."

A still-invisible Catra follows the clone to where Horde Prime's ship is and is visibly terrified and shaking. A clone who might be Hordak turns around with that white in his eyes that means Prime is using him to see, and Catra just tries to be quiet and not move but she's obviously triggered, and I mean that in the literal PTSD sense.

Horde Prime (via Hordak?): "My brothers. The time has come at last. No longer shall She-Ra stand in my way."

oh okay so Horde Prime's actual ship is still in space (just orbiting Etheria I assume) and the planet-side thing is him speaking through one of the clones via the hive mind.

"Begin the acquisition process!"

are they just gonna straight-up drill into it?

apparently yes

the whole area lights up with that sickening green light, including all the lines that characters kept noticing on the ground that looked like some combo of circuit boards and First Ones' writing.

meanwhile, Adora keeps slipping out of being She-Ra for split seconds and is clearly stressing The Fuck Out and possibly walking in the wrong direction in her distress, only to walk into another memory/hologram.

X-Men '97 | Episodes 1 & 2

X-Men TAS has always had a special place in my heart. That, along with the Dark Phoenix Saga (granted it had been out for awhile by the time I was able to read it), was my introduction to comics. I love everything X-Men, but TAS is special. So, like a lot of people, I went into this feeling several types of ways. When the intro started, I got chills.

All-in-all, I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I'm not super crazy about the animation style (why are all the ladies wearing super thick eyeliner a la the Scene Era?), but it's fine.

Crop Top Gambit in the first five minutes? Incredible. I wasn't crazy about his new VA initially, but he grew on me pretty quickly.

I actually liked Scott's voice the best. I think his new VA did an incredible job channeling his original VA.

The writing was clunky at times, but I get why (like when Rogue is moping about her powers at the rave, or when Jean is explaining to Storm about the Phoenix). First, they're trying to capture the essence of TAS, 90's cringe and all (nailed it). Second, this show isn't necessarily meant to bring in new fans. It's a happy by-product, sure, but not the intent. That said, they still have to ensure that things make sense (as much as possible) to any X-Men newbies, which means we gotta endure some awkward exposition.

I fucking called Rogueneto. When the first trailer dropped, and we got the last clip of hunky Mags, I was like...oh, they're doing Rogueneto. And honestly? I'm here for it. Do I like the pairing? No, it's not my cuppa, but what I do like is the angst it presents for Romy. Rogueneto also helps set Rogue and Gambit up as a foil to Jean and Scott's established relationship, and then they're the mid-point between Jean and Scott and what I am guessing is going to be Jubilee and Roberto.

This broke my heart though. UGH. I know it'll be alright in the end because the show's already said Romy is their OTP but stiiillllll.

AND I CALLED MADELYN?! Okok we won't actually know until next week but ?!?!?!?!?!

I could go on and on about the first two episodes, but instead I'll highlight some of my favorite parts.

Storm turning the desert to glass. JFC. Even the sentinels were like "danger Will Robinson!" And the quiet piano sound during the scene? MY GOD. CHILLS.

"He's here!" / "Apocalypse?!" / "THE BABY!" & Wolvie got a convertible.

Mag's monologue in the sky. Fucking wow.

The sentinel fight. It was so cool seeing them fight as a team.

And not to end on a bummer note, but...they introduced Genosha...did a whole bit with Mags saving the Morlocks and sending them there...and with what Jean saw in Cerebro in the first episode...yeah...I think we're getting that story.

Anyway! Loved the first two episodes. Super jazzed for the rest.

this episode was so much fun!!!! we may not have gotten much of the Parker/Eliot duo but I’m still happy that they got to tag-team! Parker learning how to socialize, be a team player, and lead was just 👌👌👌👌👌👌 wonderful so proud of her T^T Alec was amazing (obviously) and fucking killed both for stalling the case and winning it <3

not as much Nate/Sophie moments besides them acting like parents to their teammates and being a well-oiled machine 😎 so I’m still satisfied! a little disappointed that there wasn’t any hint for the finale but that might just be because of the messed up order again 😔

overall: wonderful episode, this might be my favorite of the season (tho Miracle Job still has my heart)

anw so— birds of a feather quite literally fucked up my day (in a good way) like im so invested into this story and im just in awe of the level of literacy in the way u write and im kinda taking some notes and learning from u in a way?? i mean that in a very appreciative way and i think ur genuinely one of a kind absolutely gem writer on this app like i could go on and on abt the way you write your characters and their chemistry w each other like ugh im eating it up im so full

so onto the actual fic, WHAT THE FUCK RIKI?? when i catch u riki istg, my heart SANK at that last part like i knew something was up bc he hasn't caused anything in a while and that was like a bullet sized dagger straight through my heart jfc. he had me all bamboozled and im actually feeling rage at the way mc showed vulnerability to him only to be backstabbed by him and now he's like dragging her w a noose around her neck— it's insane how he immediately dismissed mc and jumped the gun at how she could only be lying like that part just made him go from my fav character to my most loathed character. also suddenly the few mentions of riki being 'cute and evil' compared to everyone else makes so much sense, and tbh i don't trust that he'd stay quiet abt those ss he's just gonna be bored and leak them after a while i feel like.

oh and i cant forget abt the jay scene in the hotel GOD i had such a viceral emotional reaction to every dialogue they said— my brain is thoroughly jumbled, a smut scene on ecstasy could never compare to the gut wrenching situationship break up that was. if i may be honest, jay's a pussy lmao wdym you can't be wrong and admit you're not even half as bad as u thought lol anw he's going straight into the complicated men box. sorry that was me trying to cope w the fact that all of the progress jay and mc made was just gone like that and it's all back to square one now, i can't deal w that loss rn im fr mourning over it. there's just a lot to say abt that scene it might be my all time favorite piece of fanfic i've read in my life, im losing my mind at the contrast between mc wanting to savor the moment and make it last longer while jay's trying to get it over with bc i know that he knows if he takes as much time as he'd like, he'd actually realize he loves her and that's just too much of big boy feelings for him (im bullying him too much bc im so sour rn)

and i think we might be only skimming the surface w the other members, i weirdly adore sunoo lmao he's such a cryptid being, and tbh the only good thing that came out of this was sunghoon and lily being a maybe healthy couple, i love love that scene w him and lily it's such a sweet and cute moment in between all the shit mc's digging herself in lmao. i don't think i have an opinion on heeseung yet other than he obviously cares for his members, or at least the kc's reputation, and has his bearings together enough to tell the mc straight up abt all of that. also jungwon.... why do i hear boss music.... LMAO but honestly the bit where it mentioned that he got shit on everyone combined w the ending had me clawing at the walls, he's gonna be important later on and im feeling the nerves crawl up my spine even though he's never shown up once in this part, im that scared of him 😭

im terrified at what's to come, like actual dread on if riki's abt to spill everything to jay and if jay will find out and— this is too overwhelming and my mind's so cluttered lol. anw im not gonna speculate anything rn for my health but im gonna write this last paragraph in appreciation for the way you write morally gray characters, like just completely blown away by how complex and unpleasant they were written, and i mean unpleasant bc i fr know some ppl who'd act this way, it's bone chilling. granted not to the extent these characters are but it's still enough to take me back into the headspace and social circle in my younger years, just the deep regret crashing all over me again lol. not to say this was horrible no no quite the exact opposite this is the most fun and absorbed i've got from a fic in a long time, this left such an impression on me that it sneaks into the back of my mind all the time, which amplifies everytime i open this app just to scroll and i always unconsciously search ur user to see if you've updated or not.

I sort of wanted to emphasize that anyone who would join the Karma Club would inherently be predisposed to doing horrible things for their own enjoyment. Also, as in real life, sometimes the nicest people can do horrible things. People are far more contradictory than we give them credit for. That being said, no spoilers on what he'll do with the screenshots. It's been fascinating to see the revulsion towards Riki's actions compared to what Jay has done to the MC.

If it makes you feel any better, they aren't really at square one. Square one was Jay harassing her nonstop because he truly was disgusted by her, in as equal measure as he was fascinated by her. Like he said, he now doesn't even know if he hates her anymore. So even though it seems like they've gone to the beginning, this is new territory for both of them. Jay is a huge pussy, though. He calls Jake a pussy, but Jake has made more genuine attempts to get close to Y/N than him LOL

It's good that you don't trust him. At that point, Heeseung had already told Y/N to just be nice to Jake, so she didn't want to bother him. Heeseung essentially told her that she was part of the reason why Jake relapsed, so she doesn't want to toe the line.

Obvi Suresh loves the outfit "his jaw practically hit the floor" Suresh is nervous 🥹 and says MC has him wrapped around her finger. OH then you get an option of what to do...Foot rub, spoon, full body massage, he doesnt need to do anything, or show suresh you can take control. lets see if Nicolas' advice pays off here (im choosing take control) He says its so hot when you take control and you get a bunch of heart emojis...ok nic! Then you get an option to go all the way. It's def not s2 level bits but it was better than Finns shower bits. Cuddle in the morning and Suresh is being cute again

Final dates...the girls are getting ready and they dress you in an ice skating outfit 🙄 and yes I did buy it 🙃 They ask you what type of date you want and based on this that's the date you get in the next scene.. they ask what you think your future will be like with Suresh and my MC said theyre in for the long haul. but this whole exchange is lasting too long...get me on final dates asap

I chose romantic date so Suresh and I got a cabana on the beach with a table laid out for a romantic dinner. (NO BOAT OF DOOM DATE - im thinking thats the adventurous one but will confirm later) Suresh says he'll give you anything and MC is going ham with suggestions on what she wants...a romantic trip around the world, a spa day, shopping (GET IT GIRL!) he asks if you see yourself being in a real couple with him on the outside. I said I do of course. He moves closer to MC and gets super melty talking about how much MC means to him and says she does strange things to him likeeee.....he pulls out the engagement ring. MC is shocked you brought it with you?! Suresh offers it to MC and says its not a marriage proposal but a symbol of exclusivity 🥰🥰🥰 WHEW I got scared there for a second lol. I wouldve said yes obviously but much too soon for a proposal

last year the worst one by far was the winner, The Boy the badger the fox and the horse, or something like that. It had an incredible cast of A-listers and every line of dialogue was like the moral in a children's picture book. "what do you want to be when you grow up?" the badger asks the boy, he replies "kind" ugh excuse me while i puke so hard my eyes pop out of my head so I don't ever have to watch it again jfc.

this year's disgustingly saccharine and obviously very expensive equivalent is "War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko" which about a pair of soldiers on the opposite side of a trench warfare who are playing chess via carrier pigeon. The two trenches charge each other, the two soldiers figure out that the other person is their friend and they see the pigeon get hit by a bomb and die. They read its final message and stop all their fellow soldiers from fighting. Not the worst and the juxtaposition of chess against an actual war is so cliche that no one does it, which makes it novel again. But then john fucking lennon starts wailing as it's revealed to the audience that the message said "war is over" and you only have a beat to take that in before the fucking children's choir joins in. Not to be a flanderized Liz Lemon but *eyeroll* oh brother

anyway they'll probably all go online in a couple weeks, rn they're hard to find w/ a 2-minute google search. The special commendation Wild Summon was good too, gross but effective

oh yeah also the issue with this year's noms is that they. uh. IDK how to phrase it but there's a type of vignette-y meandering plotless story that I'm ok with in short stories but i have a higher bar for visual mediums so like Totoro is nice for nostalgia reasons but multiple stories in a row animated by different teams where I Do Not Know What The Plot Is Or Why I Care About These Characters is. not my thing. So Pachyderme, Letter to a Pig, and 95 Senses were just an absolute drag to watch in sequence. Our Uniform was also vignettes but at least I knew for a fact waht the fuck was happening at any given moment. Kinda wish we just got the four losers from last year again this year so they could get the recognition they deserve

What Hollyoaks storylines and characters are you enjoying?

Honestly, at the moment, since we got the new show runners and it's been a few months of them properly settling in, I'd say I'm enjoying nearly everything and everyone.

But saying that, I do have my favourites:

Firstly: Sienna. I adore Sienna, and I pretty much like everything she does (even honestly the story lines that cause me pain because they're so unfair to her because Anna Passey plays it sooo well) but I am particularly enjoying this story line atm. Which is nice, since the last story line of hers I properly enjoyed was the start of her and Ste's friendship/the burying a body one (and the one I proper enjoyed before that was her teacher story line so that was already really refreshing).

But I'm ngl, I adore Sienna and I adore any and all Sienna and her sisters content. Liberty and Sienna are my fave siblings in the whole show honestly, and I've really missed Lib. And honestly, at first I was Not A Fan of Dilly being a secret daughter of Patrick's because I already wasn't a Dilly fan, I didn't like how the new show runners pivoted and changed the Harcourt story line (still the most baffling thing) and I absolutely did not think it would be done good AT ALL but damn I have been absolutely loving it. Especially because Hollyoaks isn't washing over just how awful Patrick was, which was a worry of mine as Hollyoaks isn't always great when it comes to Sienna's past.

I especially enjoyed how it's led to some great Sienna and Maxine scenes because I also adore them two, and led to a Sienna and Minnie scene, because yet again, I'm an utter softie for big sister Sienna.

I've also enjoyed the little ethenna scenes we've gotten, although jfc I am SO done with Ethan right now, because he's a fucking idiot who has a saviour complex. I love him, and I do adore Ethenna as a ship but my god I've just wanted to slap Ethan these past few days.

Secondly: James and Ste. James (alongside Sienna) is my most favourite character and both of them make it on to my all time favourites list across all fandoms honestly, but yet again, some of his story lines can be a hit or miss for me. But like I'm a softie for sister sienna, I am an absolute softie for Dad!James and Husband!James.

I hated the whole Lucas / James story line last year and honestly I came very close to quitting the show but everything has just been SO good since. I don't love how Romeo was threatened into pleading guilty because it was literally self-defense and the only thing he was guilty of was obscuring the course of justice, but I have enjoyed seeing Dad!James in action. And Romeo is my soft boy, I love him so much.

I also just love seeing this more mature James. I mean he's still very much James, y'know the man who has Romeo said always has to be the smartest person in the room, but he's been so mature recently. Like him going to Leah's counseling session? ugh. And also I just love the insanity of him framing a man for the manslaughter of Ella like no one can deny he goes HARD for the people he loves.

Which brings me to Ste. I have a soft spot for Ste in general, although I have hated him at times (Ste in his harry era, imo, was the worst and yes that's over abusive ste and far-right ste because at least then he was still compelling as a character to hate, whereas harry era ste was just such a mess and very uncompelling honestly) and I've really enjoyed him these past couple of years.

But my god, nowhere NEARLY as much as I'm enjoying him right now. This story line, while still in it's infancy, is already SO SO good and I'm enjoying this darker story line for him.

Thirdly: the osbournes. I'm very much enjoying their collective story lines right now, although not because they're fun or I'm happy with the characters but because it's just a really interesting story line. I hate what they're doing to Jack, but I like the divide it's caused.

I must say before this, Frankie was really doing my fucking head in, and she still is to a degree, but this has definitely made her more compelling. However, I am down to my last nerve with JJ, which is pretty funny since before, I was more okay with JJ and now it's the opposite.

I also like the divide that's formed between Darren's sons: his biological one, and his adopted one because I think that'll be really interesting going forward.

I also bloody adore how Suzanne is trying so hard to get between Dancy and every time it backfires on her so spectacularly.

Fourth: Lucas. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this story line, which I will get into in a moment, but ignoring all my hate with it, I honestly adore it. I was so unsure about his recasting (although I did love that he is literally a mini Ste and Leah is a mini Amy it's so cute) and then all the James stuff, but him being soft but moody and pouty over Dillon and confused, it's just so.... yeah, I'm enjoying it and he plays it SO Well.

Although I am low-key pissed at Dillon, like you KNOW the guy is struggling with his sexuality, he finally reaches out and he's late, yes, but this is the FIRST time lucas has proper reached out in a way that'll move them forward in whatever this is between them and Dillon immediately sleeps with Freya.

and finally; Cleo. Cleo is literally one of my ultimate faves and having her back on my screen has made me SO SO happy and I'm enjoying everything we've had already so much. Although I am once again BEGGING hollyoaks to let my girl have a healthy non-manipulative relationship like please. I mean I love that she hasn't, because it's honestly in character depending the abuse she suffered growing up, but she just deserves a break.

I also love how they dealt with the whole Joel/Cleo/Leela thing (except when Joel decided to conviently forget HE was the one who seeked Cleo out and that she was doing everything to NOT go near Joel after finding out how serious him and Leela were) because it wasn't just an ex coming back into town, it was his soulmate and it's not just some girl he's now with, it's the mother of his step son and future child - two very big things Joel WOULD be conflicted over. And while I'm still hoping for more Joel/Cleo stuff in the future because I'm an absolute bitch for them, I am glad he 'chose' Leela and the baby (although mad at him for proposing outside of the McQueen's like what the hell??)

Yeah, so that's like all the MAJOR stuff I am enjoying at the moment, but I am enjoying so much more and hollyoaks in general right now.

The only story lines/characters I hate currently are Warren and John Paul. I mean I'm not a fan, obviously, of Carter but it's a compelling story line even if I hate it but god John Paul is pissing me off. He KNOWS the man has practiced conversion therapy, and maybe I could reason with JP not calling the cops and believing him when he said he stopped, but like. That's if Carter was just another person, working at some office. But he's literally the HEAD TEACHER of a school, who will inevitably meet vulnerable queer teens. He literally has the ethical and legal obligation to report this.

And JP has heard Nancy's concerns for this thing he's doing? And that doesn't make JP say, hm, maybe I should alert the authorities? Nope! Even more when, yes, so JP doesn't suspect Lucas is gay, but he knows Lucas is in this course and he knows Lucas' dad is gay and like for godsake Lucas was his bloody step son! Like he doesn't even need to out Carter in order to report him so there's not even that as an issue.

I won't get into all the reasons I'm pissed off at Warren because that would literally take all day. ALTHOUGH saying that, I am very much enjoying Mercy's twins being both his and Felix', something I called before we even knew they were twins for sure.
