i will never forgive marissa meyer for regressing wolf’s character development and reducing him into animal that he fought so hard not to become and was turned into against his will

Any book recs??
Okay so I have trash taste in media whether that be book or show or movie, but here’s what I got off the top of my head:
• six of crows obviously (never a wrong time for a reread)
• the night circus by erin morgenstern (basically if the gladiators were in a fantasy 1800s magical circus and they were also in love with each other)
• the if I stay duology by gayle forman (contemporary romance: girl in coma, boy play guitar; emotional roller coaster so beware)
• crier’s war duology by nina valera (sapphic sci-fi robot love)
• basically any thing by taylor jenkins reid (especially seven husbands and daisy jones; they’re the most popular for a reason)
• the cruel prince series by holly black (fae but not in the fantasy romantic way, in the actual complex evil fae folklore way; oh and enemies to lovers 🫡)
• the infernal devices series by cassandra clare (not to be cringe but the entire shadow hunters series has me by the throat. I am cringe but I am free. I already warned of my horrible taste in media)
That’s all I got right now 🫡🫡 I hope this helps 🫡🫡

but why does every socialist-type memoir use a font in the impact family
source: the only two memoirs i own
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
personally i think this is a very good thing because it makes it easier to find good memoirs in the sea of bad ones. *however* i do feel like if i had a bookshelf full of memoirs that used the same font family and spine color it would get a little repetitive

Lunar Chronicles film update! Warner brothers has picked up distribution of the film. As I suspected, it isn’t a straight adaptation of Cinder but a mashup of the books so all four girls appear in the film:

Okay, I'm sorry but, I just finished the Lunar Chronicles (the four main books) and I'm in awe. I still can't believe that Cinder went from a servant to her adopting family to a literal queen (which she was from the beginning), Scarlet was just a normal girl selling tomatoes, Cress was just a hacker stuck in a satellite and Winter was called mad by (almost) everyone around her, Iko was despised by Adri… I mean, all of them became heroes. And the boys too. Oh gosh, I thank the stars and Marissa for this masterpiece

convince me to read the lunar chronicles -t1sb
Tumblr media
dude idk where to start
Cinder is about a girl figuring out who she is in a world that is collapsing and falling to pieces and she loves her prince and he loves her but she's a cyborg and a cyborg could never go to the ball and there's this thing that's happening with the disease and everything is falling to pieces and she needs to save him, if she can, and it's all so dangerous and she has to try
Scarlet is about the a red-head with a shotgun. Oh, and the ethics of the manipulation of genetics. And wolves. And love. And pain. And death. and government. And instinct versus love. And the idea that you can love someone enough to risk everything for them.
Cress is about stupid love. And more ethics questions. And then more ethical questions. And some questions about morality. And then death. Disease. Danger. And how maybe all you need is to lose your ability to see to start to become the person you always knew you could be.
Winter.
Winter is.
The final piece. To all the stories. It ties it all together perfectly. It finishes it endlessly, it satisfies, it pulls you apart, puts you back together, sets you on your feet, stares you in the eyes and tells you the end of the story, and your feet give out under you, and you hold the books close to your chest and you whisper, softly, "Oh my stars, I don't think I'll ever read something like this ever again." and you won't.
And you'll be ruined.
For the rest of your life, no other series will match this one. Nothing will make you feel the same. Nothing will hold you so tightly. Nothing will ruin you like this series.
There is nothing I have ever read in my whole life that was as good of a YA series as this four book series.
I honestly think this is about the same level as The Hunger Games(I classify those as Modern Classics). If not better.
This book series will ruin you.
And you'll never, ever, ever, ever be the same.

this is maybe a long shot but does anyone have any book recs? pref 500 pages or less solely bc im in between books in a series rn (waiting on the third book to be available at my library) and i want sth i can read fast in case the book im waiting on becomes available earlier than projected
i like sci-fi horror, horror, realistic fiction, fantasy,,,,
ive read stuff like hunger games (all four books), speak (laurie halse anderson), the cirque du freak series (darren shan), zom-b series (darren shan), heartless (marissa meyer), the lunar chronicles (marissa meyer), dead silence (s.a. barnes), the cabin at the end of the world (paul tremblay), the slayer chronicles + the chronicles of vladimir todd (heather brewer), and most of junji ito's works that i could get my hands on. just for some references. but i read just about every genre sans romance.
any and all reccs are appreciated and if its longer than 500+ pages, please recc them anyway and ill add them to my tbr !! 💞💞

Top ten favorite books?
I can name five(cause I don’t even have ten favorite books😬):
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë: Hands down my favorite book of all time. If I could only own one book for some reason this would be it and unlike a lot of classics(cough cough Jane Austen cough cough), this book is very readable for a 21st-century person(the language is exceedingly modern).
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: This is the first “big” book I read by myself so it has a special place in my heart. It’s a classic and it’s a childhood favorite that I’ve never outgrown.
If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin(who is my favorite writer of all time; morbid, but outside of speaking to dead relatives he’s the guy I’d like to bring back to have a nice chat with): It’s short and beautifully written. It is sad, but the ending is ambiguous* so you can picture a happy conclusion.
*Unlike the movie, which I do love, it’s even sadder than the book so definitely read this if you have watched the movie.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (lol this is technically cheating cause it’s a four-book series🤣 ): In my humble opinion it’s the best YA Sci-fi book series(it’s fairytales with a Sci-fi twist so really what’s not to love 🤷🏽‍♀️).
The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough: It’s a really good stand-alone YA novel. If you love period romances in the YA genre then this book is for you.
It’s not very popular though so you’ll probably have to order it online if you want to read it(the last time I saw this book at a bookstore, and I always look for it every time I go into a store, was in Barnes & Noble back in 2016😬 This probably isn’t a real issue for anyone though, but I actually like buying things straight from the store).
*I don’t think Jane Austen is “bad,” I just think her work is boring and not as modern as people make it out to be(the exception being Persuasion which is her best novel IMO; Pride and Prejudice is almost unreadable which is probably why I love the 2005 movie so much because they “modernized” it).

Can we please talk about how well Kerri Maniscalco wrote the rivals (cause they were never truly enemies) to friends to lovers trope for Stalking Jack the Ripper? PLEASE???? And the fact that it was a perfect pace over the span of four books???
I am obsessed with that series. It is on my Re-Read list. Like… at the top of the list, just under The Lunar Chronicles.

ROLEPLAY CALL
Hey everyone! I’ve been roleplaying on the DL for 6 years and I’m looking for new partners! My preference is OCxCanon, but I’m also open to OCxOC and canonxcanon (as long as I have an excuse to still use my ocs lol). I’m also totally cool with having no romance at all, and instead focusing on platonic relationships! I love proper plots with a conflict, buildup, and resolution, with a healthy mix of angst and fluff (I’m a sex-positive ace, so smut is iffy but not completely off the table). I’m in the 15-20 range and would prefer my partner to be the same, though I’m willing to go older or younger, and I prefer semi-lit. Literate is a bit difficult for me, but I’m willing to try it if that’s what you prefer. I find that anything shorter than semi-lit tends to get stale, so I’d prefer not to. Original and fandom RPs are both fine with me. If you prefer fandom, here are the ones I roleplay, as well as the characters I’m most comfortable with playing and the characters I’d like to prefer you to play:
TRANSFORMERS PRIME
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: Ratchet, Arcee, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Smokescreen, Knockout, Breakdown, Predaking, Wheeljack, Ultra Magnus (any others I will try my best at!)
Characters I’d ask you to play: Smokescreen, Optimus, Ultra Magnus, Knockout (others may come into play, but those are the main ones)
HARRY POTTER
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: Harry, Hermione, Draco, Fred, Molly, Ginny, Percy, Luna, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, McGonagall
Characters I’d ask you to play: Neville, Harry, Luna, George
MY HERO ACADEMIA
((be warned that I’ve only watched the first four seasons and haven’t read the manga (though I seem to get spoiled plenty anyway)))
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: (discuss one-on-one)
Characters I’d ask you to play: (discuss one-on-one)
BE MORE CHILL
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: all :)
Characters I’d ask you to play: Rich, Jeremy, Christine
THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: all
Characters I’d ask you to play: Andrew Clark
MCU
(I rarely find myself in the mood for an MCU roleplay, but occasionally it’s fun)
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: Stephen Strange, Loki, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson
Characters I’d ask you to play: Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Scott Lang
RISE OF THE GUARDIANS
Characters I’m most comfortable playing: North, Bunnymund, Sandy, Pitch
Characters I’d ask you to play: Jack, Jamie, Toothiana, Emily Jane (if you’ve read the books!)
I also do roleplays based on books, such as:
Aurora Rising
ACOTAR (disclaimer: I am a Tamlin stan)
American Royals
The Lunar Chronicles
And more!
I have a multitude of OCs, some of which are relegated to a single fandom and others that jump fandoms or don’t belong to any fandom at all. If you’re interested or have any questions, DM me!

Fairy Tale February: Week 2 Book Recs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cinder - Marissa Meyer
A sci-fi Cinderella story in which Cinderella is a cyborg mechanic trying to help her prince deal with a devastating, incurable plague and the looming threat of a powerful and ruthless queen. Fantastic writing, fantastic world-building! The only thing I didn't like was the ending; I wish there had been some sort of resolution for at least one of the conflicts, instead of leaving everything loose. That said, I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Lunar Chronicles: Cinder | Scarlet | Cress | Winter
The Door in the Hedge - Robin McKinley
Four fairy tales: two retellings (The Princess and the Frog and The Twelve Dancing Princesses) and two originals (The Stolen Princess and The Hunting of the Hind). Robin McKinley writes such beautiful, rich, lyrical language that is so well suited for fairy tales. Her stories are mesmerizing!
Sherwood - Meagan Spooner
A retelling of Robin Hood in which the famed outlaw is actually Maid Marian in disguise! When Robin of Locksley dies fighting in the King's war, his betrothed, Marian, must deal with her grief and the uncertainty of her future. As she tries to protect her friends and do what is right for her people, she finds the freedom to be herself in a surprising way — by becoming someone else! I cannot express how much I loved this story! This is the only version of Robin Hood I care about now.
