Round One Part Four - Match 29
Barring any of the post-apocalypse statements, I think this is our very first actual main character statement giver episode! I will say that Cheating Death is a very interesting take on the "gambling with death" trope.
MAG 076 - The Smell of Blood | Spotify - Acast - YT | Wiki | Transcript
Statement of Melanie King, regarding her further research into war ghosts. Statement recorded direct from subject.

Note
do we have any information on the approximate dates or year that TMA takes place in? I’m obsessed with timelines and I’m so curious about if those dates are Known or not or can only be guessed about
yes we do! some parts of the timeline are a little vague, but every live and "in situ" statement (with a few exceptions) has a date attached to it. I won't go through every known date, and I'm also not scrupulously checking to make sure I've copied all these numbers down correctly so there's probably an error or two in here, but some significant ones include:
s1
mag 13 - alone: the first live statement and the first hard date for the show, 13 january 2016
mag 22 - colony: martin's statement after being trapped by jane prentiss, 12 march 2016
mag 26 - a distortion: sasha's statement about meeting michael, 2 april 2016 (<- that was my fourteenth birthday :3)
mag 38 / mag 39 / mag 40: jane prentiss's attack on the institute, sasha's death, and all the debrief statements afterwards, 29 july 2016
s2
mag 41 - too deep: jon's statement about exploring the tunnels and his first supplemental tape about gertrude's murder, 2 september 2016
mag 43 - section 31: basira's statement about diego molina + the start of her giving gertrude's old tapes to jon, 19 september 2016
mag 47 - the new door: helen's statement about the hallways, we meet michael in person for the first time, 2 october 2016
mag 61 - hard shoulder: daisy's statement about seeing the coffin for the first time, 1 december 2016
mag 73 - police lights: basira's statement about rescuing callum brodie from maxwell rayner, 11 february 2017
mag 76 - the smell of blood: melanie's statement about her investigations into war ghosts, at the end she and jon have a bit of a fight about how That Is Not Sasha, 13 february 2017
mag 78 / mag 79 / mag 80: jon releases not-sasha from the table, martin and tim get trapped in the corridors, jon meets leiter, elias smashes leitner with a metal pipe, all on 16 february 2017
s3
mag 81 / mag 82: jon makes a statement at georgie's place about a guest for mr spider at the same time as daisy interviews the remaining archives staff to try and ascertain his whereabouts, 18 february 2017
mag 89 - twice as bright: statement of jude perry, ft. jon hand crispification, 24 april 2017
mag 91 / mag 92 (/ maybe mag 93?): statement of mike crew, death of mike crew, jon daisy and basira's encounter in the woods, the big elias conversation at the institute, 28 april 2017. mag 93 might also be recorded on this day, I'm not quite sure, because georgie's statement (mag 94) is 29 april, but I don't know if that's fully the next day or if jon got back really late on the 28th, recorded mag 93, and then georgie gave her statement in the wee hours of the 29th. up to interpretation and how little sleep you envision jon as having.
mag 100 - I guess you had to be there: lynne hammond's is 2 may 2017, robin lennox's is 20 may 2017, brian finlinson's is 26 may 2017, and "john smith's" statement doesn't have a date.
mag 111 - family business: gerry's posthumous statement about smirke's 14, 30 june 2017. again, trevor and julia's statement about how they met in mag 109 is dated 29 june, and I don't know if it's an either-side-of-midnight thing or a full day elapsed between them.
mag 118 - the masquerade: martin and melanie pull a fast one on elias while the rest of the gang sets up explosives in the unknowing, 6 august 2017.
mag 120 - eye contact: elias's statement about jon's coma dreams + elias's arrest, 9 august 2017.
s4
mag 121 / mag 122: oliver banks gives his statement about point nemo and jon wakes up, 15 february 2018
mag 128 - heavy goods: breekon deliver's the coffin and jon slurps a statement right out of his head, 3 march 2018
mag 132 - entombed: jon buries himself alive to rescue daisy, 24-26 march 2018
mag 141 - doomed voyage: on the boat to norway jon slurps a statement about mikaele salesa out of a shiphand's head, 11 june 2018
mag 142 - scrutiny: jess tyrell comes in to complain about jon slurping a statement out of her head and haunting her nightmares, 12 june 2018
mag 146 / mag 147: jon gets intervened on about all the brain slurping, they go to hilltop road and find annabelle's statement, 20 july 2018
mag 157 / mag 158 / mag 159: peter releases not-sasha and brings martin to the panopticon for a showdown with "elias," julia and trevor attack the institute, daisy goes monster mode, and jon follows martin into the lonely and saves him with the power of gay love and also slurping peter lukas's brain so hard he explodes badly, 25 september 2018
mag 160 - the eye opens: jon reads a normal statement and nothing bad happens, 18 october 2018.

An analysis of alcemy for the Magnus Protocol!
I have just finished the episode I have found a list of alchemical symbols let's fucking gooo baby. Just to clarify it is my belief these are the new entities. I know it would probably be better if they were less rigidly defined but I love sorting things and am hyped!!! This is going to be long so strap in (not all of those though they're just to illustrate)! I am so sorry if you use dark mode (like me!) these images are almost all transparent.
Tumblr media
1: Mercury!
Tumblr media
Referring to both the metal and the planet, go wild. Mercury is all about transcending boundaries as it's kind of both a solid and a liquid (it's not but whatever), specifically the boundary of life and death, possibly even transcend death. That seems relevant. Also related to snakes so if snakes show up... probably mercury. Also if we ever get some sort of white queen in a chess way? Mercury. It also represents the mind, or spirit maybe? It's got a lot going on. Colin said it'd make the world end. Fuck yeah probably why not.
2: Salt
Tumblr media
This is one that is not included on one list I have but is on the other. I'm not guaranteeing all of these are significant I'm finding it hard to find a definite list. If you look into just all the alchemical symbols they've got loads and I doubt they're all significant. Anyway. Salt is the physical body in this trifecta (we'll come onto that). Very to do with physicality, the body, honestly might manifest in a few ways similar to the Flesh. Also to do with purification? In general but also 'purifying' the body which I think medieval people meant in a good way but sounds evil to me. There is also of course, seperate to the whole alchemy thing, salt circles and all that. You've seen supernatural you know what I'm talking about. Although that's also to do with purification.
3: Sulphur
Tumblr media
Or sulfur, if you are American. This one's actually got a few different symbols but let's go with this one for now. Honestly, and I know we shouldn't be comparing these to the TMA entities, but this one's pretty desolation. It's all dry heat and masculine destructive energy. Yeah this one's 'masculine' and mercury's 'feminine' for some reason, I doubt that will come up. Which I guess makes salt non-binary. This is the red king, too. This is the soul in the 'tria prima', Mercury, salt and sulphur, which were the three first elements apparently, and also cause disease? Idk. That might be relevant. Hell's meant to smell of sulphur, that tells you most of what you need to know. Again, we've all seen Supernatural. Colin said something about this making you go mad. I think yeah sure but less spiral-type mad more slaughter-type mad.
4: Air
Tumblr media
Right, onto the four basic elements. These all have a humour related to them too and air has blood for some reason. Air is life and light and God and passion and all that good shit. I have to imagine it's gonna have some vast shit going on too because I don't think Jonny can help himself, but it's also to do with being changable and generally quite nice. Oh also ideas and creativity. All that good shit!
5: Earth
Tumblr media
Basically the opposite of air. The 'masculine counterpart' as all these websites keep saying. It's associated with salt, which makes sense, and is all about stillness and being grounded and again, I feel like there's going to be some buried attributes in there. It's got the humour black bile which is all about sadness and shit. Most of the four basic elements are fairly self-explanatory.
6: Fire
Tumblr media
You know what fire does. Passion, emotion, love and hate and all that. Although honestly in an alchemical way fire seems to be more emotional. So far (and I am writing these as I look into them) if you want something based around physical destruction you're gonna wanna look at sulphur. Its humour is yellow bile.
7: Water
Tumblr media
Water, humour is phlegm, connected to mercury, honestly alchemically I can't find anyone having much to say about it but y'know. It's water. BUT I HAVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT WATER. Okay so this has gotta be the deep, right? The whole mix of the buried and the vast thing with the sea? That killed the girl Alice saw? Or at least was involved with the death. It's all very water.
8: Lead
Tumblr media
Right, onto planetary metals! Which Mercury kind of also was but hey ho. So, Lead is associated with Saturn. So, alchemists believed that lead was the base metal, that all other metals were just lead that had turned into something else. Which means it's really important but also kinda sucks, and is why people kept trying to make it into gold. So lead is also to do with change but also kind of purity as they thought it 'purified' into gold. Also associated with the Roman god Saturn/Greek god Chronos, who are both to do with time so that might be involved.
9: Tin
Tumblr media
To do with the planet Jupiter. It seems to be connected to wisdom and maturity and education and all that. BUT ALSO. It is connected to Lady Mowbray, hell yeah. Because I watched a video about the arg and noted that on the back of Lady M's assistant's clipboard or whatever is this symbol which I recognised at the time as Jupiter! Now. What does tin have to do with dogs and eating people. As far as I can tell fuck all. I thought I'd misremembered for a moment and it was actually the Saturn symbol because that would work with cannibalism at least but no Lady Mowbray seems to serve... tin. Which is kind of funny. I get the connection to nobility at least, Jupiter is king of the gods after all, but as far as I know he doesn't hunt people with dogs? Idk.
10: Iron
Tumblr media
Related to Mars and, as I'm sure you can tell, men. Because these fuckers loved gender. Similar to fire it's all about anger and passion, but also seeing as Mars is the god of war I don't think it's beyond belief we've got something similar to the slaughter on our hands here.
11: Gold
Tumblr media
Connected to the sun and therefore does not have a classical god I can interpret. Damn. Maybe Apollo? Gold is about having gay lovers. No. So gold's big thing is that it doesn't corrode. Something about staying as you are, the opposite of Air's changability, sort of similar to earth... I could make something out of this.
12: Copper
Tumblr media
Well hello ladies. Copper actually has a cooler symbol but I suspect we're sticking with these. Connected to Venus, obviously, which is all about attractiveness and desirability because copper is a very pretty metal. Personally, I would say episode 2 is to do with copper. I don't know if ink5oul themself is (I think they might sort of span entities) but what's her name from the episode and her obsession with looking good seems very copper to me. I know I'm not sorting all these episodes (yet! I have to relisten first) but this one jumped out at me. Copper is also to do with love, of course. I feel like one reason maybe the desire theory got so big is a lot of alchemical elements are to do with love and desire, so that just sort of bled through?
13: Silver
Tumblr media
That's right, it's the moon! Very to do with mystery and weird shit. I think if you get the non-literal elements of The Dark you've got Silver. Also keeps away evil, again, Supernatural. Although it also has to do with tides so I think there is a very small chance that actually this is the Deep? I doubt it though.
14: Antimony
Tumblr media
So I wasn't going to do the mundane elements because they're less likely to be important (you'll see) but some of them are really interesting! I might not do them all. Anyway, antimony is about the wild and animalistic side of human nature, and is to do with wolves. That remind you of anyone? A certain... aristocratic milf? I know she's connected to tin but it should be antimony okay??
15: Arsenic
Tumblr media
Arsenic is cool, we all know it. It's my mum's favourite element on the periodic table. Anyway. Swans? It's to do with swans. Apparently it transforms its appearance like a cygnet to a swan. It also fucking kills people which I'm not convinced the alchmists were aware of.
16: Bismuth
Tumblr media
Nobody knows what they were doing with bismuth. RIP. Also, I don't know my astronomy but that is taurus. Does that mean anything? I looked into the metal; it's quite pretty and people get it mixed up with tin.
17: Magnesium
Tumblr media
Oh boy. It's hard to extinguish once it's lit, so it represents eternity! That's gotta be something babyy! Some combination of the end and the vast and all that.
18: Phosphorus
Tumblr media
They thought phosphorus trapped light. I know it's easy to say this from a modern perspective but alchemists were fucking dumb. I feel like I could disprove this. But they were the first scientists so we have to be nice to them I guess...
19: Platinum
Tumblr media
Supposedly a combination of gold and silver, hence the symbol. Possibly something about being bound to something... idk.
20: Potassium
Tumblr media
Or potash. Didn't seem to have much historical context. But I believe it has very important modern context.
Tumblr media
21: Zinc
Tumblr media
They burned zinc to get what they called 'white snow'. You fucking idiots snow is already white.
That's it! Honourable mention to horse dung, which is a more obscure element but gets its own symbol and everything.
Tumblr media
also soap and urine and all sorts of shit so I think we should stop there. What have we learnt? Possibly nothing! One of these has got to be to do with plants - I assume earth? That would make sense. One's something to do with luck from the sounds of things and I have no idea what that is, hopefully someone knows more about alchemy than I do for that. There's definitely some sort of watcher and I think either that's the eye crossed into this dimension or possibly mercury? I don't think the names are going to be these because honestly imagine Lady Mowbray being like hey I serve Tin. She's probably going to say Jupiter but we all have to know in our heart of hearts. It's just fucking tin. I am very tired I am going to bed.

Tumblr media
I maybe sort of wrote something. Set after TMA Episode 51: High Pressure, following a plot bunny about Captain Kemp's remark "The sea is a dangerous place." (Disclaimer: I don't usually write fanfiction and Am Not A Writer, I just have emotions about these two horrible old men).
Into the Ocean Characters: Simon Fairchild, Peter Lukas, Morten Kemp (mentioned) Ship: FoggySkies Warnings: mentions of drowning, incredibly minor mention of violence
He was shaken, Peter thought.
When he’d come aboard - dripping wet and smelling like the salt spray of the ocean - he’d been smiling ear to ear. That’s how Simon was. Performative. But once they’d retreated to the captain’s cabin, once Simon had stripped out of his wet clothes and borrowed some of Peter’s - once Peter had pushed him down into one of the chairs and shoved a cup of coffee into his hands - he could tell.
Simon Fairchild was shaken. And that, Peter thought, could not have been an easy thing to accomplish.
He could tell it in the curve of the older man’s shoulders, the way his smile was so noticeably absent when Peter wasn’t speaking to him. These things were uncharacteristic of Fairchild, insofar as Peter knew him.
Peter didn’t make a point of knowing people, broadly speaking.
Simon made a point of being known, though. And he made it Peter’s problem some years back.
Peter didn’t much want to talk about it. It’d been such a quiet trip across the seas, happily alone. What were the chances he’d run into Simon here? Whatever it was, Peter didn’t want to have to ask nor answer questions. It seemed too great an effort.
“Have you ever thought about drowning?” Simon inevitably asked. His voice was as lighthearted as ever, but he wasn’t looking at Peter. He was gazing out the small window. Peter’s skin crawled. Simon knew how he felt about it - being asked questions. Or perhaps it was because he did know how Peter felt that he didn’t wait for a reply, and went on, “I had never considered it. Not really. It’s not like I could, I don’t think.”
“You came out here to see if you could drown?” Peter said around the rock in his throat that tried to keep the question from being asked. He was tired. It’d be easier to disappear.
“Goodness, no,” Simon said. “Old yacht. Feeling a bit peckish.  You know how it is.” There was a bitter edge in his words. Something hadn’t gone right, then. “As it turns out, I rather angered the captain of a ship I’d chartered out to the wreck. And here I thought Kemp had been such a charming man, too.”
Peter hummed in sympathy for this Captain Kemp whom Simon had impressed his presence upon.
“I’m not sure why I didn’t expect it,” Simon said. “The blow to the head, I mean. How very… mundane.”
Peter, in the middle of pouring himself a cup of coffee as well, froze, then glanced over at Simon. Peter hadn’t noticed any injuries when Simon had been changing, no blood that’d dripped down from his hairline. It can’t have been too serious a strike - but that thought doesn’t do anything to snuff out the sudden, flickering anger in Peter’s chest.
Simon was still looking away, out the window. He looked very small, Peter thought, that little skeleton of a frame swallowed by Peter’s sweater.
“It was all very surprising,” Simon said. “You just don’t think certain people have it in them, I suppose. Or you are so used to winning, you don’t expect it when the odds turn.” A shrug of one small, bony shoulder.
“He tried to drown you,” Peter said. It wasn’t a question.
“Hands bound and feet weighted,” Simon replied with a humourless laugh. “The whole nine yards, as they say. Very theatrical. Tied good knots, I’ll tell you. Of course he did. Sailor, and all.” A long pause, and the smile was gone in its entirety this time, leaving Simon’s face blank. And then, slowly, he said, “I’m not sure what would have happened… if I’d kept sinking. You think I’d be right at home, wouldn’t you? All that beautiful, shining abyss stretching out all around, and being nothing more than… a meaningless drop in it all. I think I might’ve enjoyed it, if it hadn’t been for the knots, and the weight. The sinking. The feeling of all that water crushing in around you. Being… buried.” He said it with a frown.
Peter watched him, unmoving. Simon hadn’t touched the coffee yet. Peter didn’t blame him. It wasn’t good coffee - at least that was what Simon had been sure to tell him plenty of times before.
“You know, I’ve always thought. If I were to die… life would go on. And if I were to live, life would go on. And either way, that’s just fine,” Simon said. “But I had this thought, down there, Peter. This thought that… that’s not how I wanted to die. Being crushed. Being… bound.” The smile flickered across his features, but it was a sad looking thing. “And I had to laugh then, even sinking as I was. Because what did it matter what I wanted? That’s quite the point, isn’t it. Nothing matters, not really, not in any way that counts. Still. I caught myself thinking… it would have been a great deal nicer to fall into the sky, rather than have that… liquid cement closing in around me.”
Peter stared at Simon for a long moment. He suddenly wondered about this other captain Simon mentioned.
Wondered if it wasn’t the first time Kemp had tried to bury someone at sea.
“The knot came loose,” Simon eventually sighed, sinking further into the chair. “The one around my hands. Took a little finagling to get the one around my feet.” Finally he lifted the cup to his lips, took a small sip. “You must imagine the relief I felt, seeing your fair ship when I broke the surface.” Peter’s face twisted into something that might have been an amused smile. It was a cargo ship - hardly what anyone would describe as fair. “The Tundra in all of its majesty, and I thought to myself, the good captain certainly has impeccable timing, as always.”
There was still hardly anything in Simon’s smile. It struck Peter as wrong. He scratched at his beard, then looked to the window, and then finally said, “Follow.” He didn’t wait for Simon. Simply turned on his heel and walked to the door of the cabin. He could hear the spry old man exclaim something and shuffle to his feet to hurry after him.
They went up a flight of stairs, and another. Climbing higher until finally they reached a hatch that Peter pushed open. He exited out onto the roof of the bridge.
The air was sharp and ocean fresh, whipping past his face, and as Simon climbed up after him, Peter could see the change was immediate. Simon’s eyes turned skyward, chasing the patterns of clouds towards the distant, endless horizon. He recognized the look in Simon’s sky blue eyes then - no longer dull and tired, but bright and alive - if still exhausted. Peter didn’t want to call it love, even if that was what it was that Simon looked up to the heavens with, because then he would have to think about the times Simon had looked at him like that, and that was…
…overwhelming, at the best of times.
He watched silently as Simon padded his way over to the railing, and then leaned against it with a deep, happy sigh. There was no noise for a time other than the waves crashed against The Tundra, and the sound of the wind.
And then Simon said, “You certainly know how to treat a man, Captain Lukas. Thank you.”
Peter could hear it in his voice - that proper smile. He scratched the tip of his nose. “I’ll be below,” he replied. Simon didn’t respond. And just for a moment longer, Peter stood there and stared at Simon’s back. It was rare to see him so still, aside from when he slept. Simon moved fast. Faster than what most could keep up with. It must have led, Peter thought, to a very lonely existence. And that suited him well. Perhaps that was why it worked, with Simon. He came and went with the wind, and never seemed to overstay his welcome. And moments like these, when it was only them, and the empty, vibrant sky and vast, lonely horizon, Peter felt… comfortable.
He left Simon there. He’d come back to the cabin when he was ready - or he’d leave. Either way was fine in Peter’s books. Whatever the case, he’d have to ask a round next they made port. See if he couldn’t find one Captain Kemp, and show him just how desolate the ocean could be.

TMA Excerpt Part 2: Jayrose Edition
Ft. Hunt! Jason, Eye! Rose, dog imagery, suggestive themes, canon typical murder and gore, and a hint of cannibalism as a treat. they're evil and married your honor @perseus-jackass
°•°•°•°•°•°•°
Bones crunch under the pressure of his jaws, tender flesh splitting to welcome in his teeth as blood drenches the concrete and his clothes. He'd just washed these yesterday, so at least it's Rose's day for laundry.
The writhing thing beneath him makes an agonized noise as Jason's claws dig into it's soft belly, guts spilling out as Jason rips and tears with wild abandon, lost to the haze of blood and the rushing victory of a successful chase.
The deliberate footsteps become apparent behind him as Rose decides to let him know of her presence. Not that she needs to, he's a Hunter, he smelled her the second she turned the corner of the block. Thick and smokey and almost enough to distract him from the bones he's cleaning with heavy swipes of his tongue.
Almost.
The growl rises in his chest unbidden as she steps close to his kill, but a sharp look and pointed whistle is all it takes to bring him to heel. The noise freezes in his chest abruptly and he straightens his spine like an eager puppy greeting it's owner. He scrambles over to her without bothering to stand, kneeling at her feet with a blood stained grin.
She telegraphs her movements as she reaches towards his face, thumb sliding through the viscera along his jaw briefly before she hooks her pointer finger behind his fully extended canines, playfully tugging at it. He let's her, let's his jaw relax and his shoulders slump forward. Rose rewards him by carding her strong fingers through his hair, unheeding of the gore drying in tacky clumps in his curls.
She clicks her tongue when she reaches the white streaks in his hair. "Should just dye it red at this point." She drawls, smile soft and indulgent, the way one looks at a prized pet whose just knocked over a house plant and rolled around in the soil.
He can't quite speak yet, an almost human noise the closest vocalization he can manage as far down as he is. This is fine, he doesn't need to be present. Rose will take his leash, and he will follow wherever she leads. Let it never be said that he's untrained.
Her now bloody fingers drop to the thick leather collar around his neck, lightly brushing the sparkling eye pendant before backtracking to the ring it dangles from. She tugs once, twice, gentle but firm. "Time to go home." She intones softly.
He nods, only just managing to push himself to his haunches. He towers over her like this, but she leads him easier than even a real dog might allow. A low, constant rumble starts in his throat, getting louder when the finger looped around his collar is replaced by a firm hand in his oversized paws.

Redemption Round One - Match Four
I did genuinely think The Smell of Blood would do better, given that it's a Melanie statement. I also voted Parting in Round One. The Smell of Blood had 89 votes and Parting had 57 votes.

MAG10 - Vampire Killer
*turns around in the most ugliest coolest yellowest office chair like a Bond villain, petting a baguette-shaped cushion* so, you came here from MAG9 without expecting the whiplash. Don't worry, you are not alone lmao
Trevor Herbert is like a homeless Chuck Norris, a shaggy Terminator, a Van Helsing lite (the Hugh Jackman one, not the original). He looks in your head like the dog in The Lady and The Tramp but in human version.
And the very first thing this mf says when he writes his statement is "I've been procrastinating this shit for 50 years, but hey, I finally came to the Magnus Institute". So better late than never and all that jazz.
Quoooooooting timeeeee:
"I hear someone even made me a page on the Internet and it got a few thousand likes. I don’t know exactly what that means but it sounds nice." - Trevor Herbert, July 10th 2010
Aww, doesn't he sound nice? :D
"Obviously that’s not why I’m here, though, is it? No, I’m here because I have also dedicated my life to finding and killing vampires." - Also f*cking Trevor
Sorry u wHAT
" (...) but I do not have proof to give you except for the vampire teeth that I will leave with this statement." - Trevor "I brought you a souvenir" Herbert
" I killed my first vampire in 1959." - Trevor Herbert, THE LEGEND THE MAN THE MYTH
You wish you sound as badass xD
"I was hit by a stale, coppery smell that I did not recognise as old blood at the time, since I was barely 16 and did not have then the experience I have now." - Trevor, barely 16 but already a poet
I find upsetting how many statement givers were so young they didn't know they were smelling blood.
"The furniture and wallpaper had clearly not been changed in many decades, and a thick layer of dust covered everything." - Trevor, 16, also an offended interior designer
LOL the landlord when he tells you " I just painted everything, it's all new"
"I remember wondering whether Sylvia McDonald walked exactly the same route through the house always, as I saw other clear lines of passage in the rooms we passed through." - Trevor "WTF" Herbert
" It was 1968, I remember because that was the year United won the European Cup, (...)" - Trevor "Yes, I'm British, why u asking?" Herbert
"I do not know if you’ve ever felt your blood being sucked out of you, but I would not recommend it." - By Trevor, 0/5, no stars
"Regardless, there is substantial evidence to support the version of events told by Mr. Herbert in all aspects except the vampirism." - Jon Sims, April 13th 2016
He really said "I believe everything except the vampire bullshit" XD
"(...) It may be that they take Mr. Herbert’s statement far more seriously than I do." - Also Jon
He sees that a lot of government and law people takes this statement seriously and goes "hm how weird, why tho, it's all bullshit"
Small review:
The vampires in the tma universe are so freaking weird, disturbing of course, personally I can't really tell if they are scary tho, but I'm certain they are a mystery.
Gotta say, RIP Nigel, he seemed nice :(
I must admit Trevor is quite an interesting figure, he's intelligent and resourceful, can do much with almost nothing and put together every piece of information he has in a way he can reach a satisfactory conclusion. And then he just sticks with it. There are these monsters, which I know how to kill, and so I do it. Simple. Efficient. Practical as hell.
This is also the second time going clubbing has ended horribly for someone in tma, and honestly? Wtf
This guy just die in the break room, like, lmao. He really said "no time like the present, may as well reach supersaiyan state in that couch over ther", and he fucking did it
And then Jon ends everything by showing a lot of evidences while acting the sceptic part and it's so goddamn funny. He should be a comedian.
General overview:
Vibe: this one is so fucking wild, nice homeless grandpa ends up being the modern Van Helsing and "dies" in a couch at paranormal research institute. Iconic
Horror: there are cryptids in it, that's horror genre coded
Audio: pretty ASMR in general
Humour: hilarious Terminator Grandpa, feat.Jon being Jon
Score: 10/10

personal tma episode today woohoo I suppose (uh.... cw for rotten/scary ?food? I guess)
I work in mail sorting. In one of The Big mail sorting plants, the kind of building lined with conveyor belts that take things across the building, up and down different floors, just wherever it needs to get to so it can leave in the right direction to the local stations and parcel carriers. A big mechanical nervous system. Filled with packages or letters instead of flesh or blood.
You find a lot of weird things in the mail. You just have to learn to ignore it. It gets weirder even on the overnight shift. Not just drugs or other illegal oddities, but those truly bizarre sights you know you'll have no way of describing later. If you even remember them after a long night.
8pm to 5am is when I'm there. We even sort on Sundays. Have to get the mail to your station by Monday you know? I usually like to listen to podcasts while I work. I mean, I'm just standing in place, waiting for that labyrinth of moving belts and conveyors to drop the next round of mail into my chute so I can start sorting the zip codes. I'll put each package on another conveyor belt, key in a code on a small number console, then watch the package get taken away and dropped into another cart or chute somewhere. There's four other drop chutes just like mine, lined up along the main belt behind me, with another equally bored or just plain tired plant worker waiting for the next round of endless deliveries to sort. All listening to their own music or books or even having a late night phone conversation. Today I was playing The Magnus Archives. It really didn't feel like it would matter what I listened to at the time. I was in the middle of episode 36 - Taken Ill, and as the narrator started describing the sickly horror of the scripted week a package at the top of my chute broke open and a slimy, pale yellow, almost gray fluid starts pouring out... well oozing out. It seemed slow, but happened so fast that I couldn't have done anything to help minimize it even if I wanted to get close enough to do that. It got over everything. The belt, the chute, the other packages, even the floor. It didn't just get my area either. When it broke it was still close enough to the main conveyor belt that it spread to the other four chutes after me too. The smell was so strong I almost couldn't move at first. Almost sweet. Before the strench of almost tangible rot slammed it's way so hard into my brain my legs nearly gave out.
Well the stench obviously traveled all over. Farther than normal I guess. Everyone on our floor level could smell it and was coming over to find out what happened. I mean everyone too which is impressive. This is not a small building, it takes about five minutes for someone fit to speed walk from one end of our floor to the other. So it was kind of a joke everytime we caught another brave soul wandering over from so far to try and figure out just what the hell they were being forced to smell.
We get people trying to mail cooked foods or meals all the time, it always turns rotten before the package even makes it to a sorting plant. Always. It's so stupid, but also so common you hardly notice it after a couple months there. A turkey sandwich in a manilla envelope, ham with mashed potatoes on a ceramic plate, a plastic baggy of homemade pickles. Almost makes me chuckle sometimes. Well, almost chuckle AFTER, the slime and smell of what used to be something consumable gets mopped up. So that full bodied stench of old organic rot isn't foreign to us in the plants by any means. Nobody could say for sure what had rotted though, but we all agreed it was definitely familiar. When we removed the box from the top of the chute we still couldn't figure out what it was. Usually when one of these busts we get to see what ever moldy, decomposed chunk meat or produce someone tried to mail ooze out of the soggy cardboard when picked up. This was somehow just slime. A molded pale yellow that almost seemed gray. There wasn't anything else. It looked like someone had packaged up only the decay while leaving out what originally fed it. If there had ever been anything else it seemed to have already completely liquefied. And it filled the entire box and more. It seemed to be too much for the package that broke. We all tried to joke about how long the package must have been lost in the twisted turns of the never ending veins of sorting machinery to get /that/ rancid, but we couldn't bare to keep our mouth open too long around it. Thinking back I don't remember anyone actually complaining about the SMELL, just how it was stronger than normal, strong enough to taste. All from a square box barely 7 inches long. A box that hadn't even smelled until it spilled open. Or we thought it had spilled, we couldn't see what might have been the tape holding it closed anywhere in the soggy mess.
Because it was just so... wet we almost forgot to check if the mailing info was still intact any any way before we binned it for another crew to inspect and clean. No chance of saving it at this point. The address had melted away into that yellowish sick of spoiled matter, but the postage mark was still dry. Pristine even. A bright unmarked spot of bright dry paper on a sea of decomposing filth where there sat a single fly. That lonely insect drawing my attention to the smallest bit of information that I would have never noticed, or thought to check, without the dance it seemed to do right on top. Pointing me to the punchline of a joke I never wanted to know.
It had been sent locally that same day.
You find a lot of weird things in the mail. You just have to learn to ignore it.
